Boring, he ignored the best characters he has...it was sadly like the last few books, yet even worse. I found myself speed reading to get to something I cared about. There are no redeaming points besides Jarlaxle showing up and Kimmuriel, heck even Athrogate...but they are hardly even a part of the story. It is a tired worn out story..read some David Daglish or Brent Weeks novels if u want some good epic fantasy.

Slavatore delivers another in a long line of great satisfying reads. The conclusion of some plot lines and the hints and beginning of others might to a lesser writer seem like a poor attempt to keep an audience, by his books never disappoint and never make me feel obligated to read the next one, but leaves me excited to read the continuation of the next story. This was a great read and highly recommended for anyone who enjoys the fantasy genres.

I have read Salvatore since the 1990's and his stories have never failed me. The many characters he introduces to the reader are fully formed, breathing and kicking around a world that is constantly evolving.
Book IV (Forgotten Realms - The Last Threshold - Neverwinter Saga :: Legend of Drizzt, Book VII (The Legend of Drizzt) :: The Orc King: Transitions, Book I :: The Lone Drow (The Hunter's Blades Trilogy - Book 2) :: Icewind Dale Trilogy, Book 1 - The Crystal Shard

Another book that simply goes through the motions, characters do what they have always done, but amazingly pick up some ludicrous skills and items. No one character gets much attention due to the pacing, which is a shame because it's what drives a book for me. It feels scripted by Wizards of the Coast to fit and R.A. Salvatore is just for filling his contract.

Saying that I've felt that the Drizzt novels have taken a nose drive since the Companions of the Hall came back. They should have stayed dead, to allow for Drizzt to suffer hardship, to grow as a character and maybe worry less about becoming more like his darker kin. They need to die again, cause in the end all of them either die in battle or what... die from old age and Drizzt pines over them, still fresh as a daisy.

Where is this 'reborn heroes' story thread meant to end?

Salvatore once again shows his mastery of fantasy writing. His prolific career is unmatched I volume and ability to develop characters that a reader is never sad to see return. I have spent more of my life reading his work than not, and am proud of it. Excellent read. Intensity of a new level.

I finished this book fairly quickly, and it was a decent read. Overall I enjoyed it. The ending felt a bit rushed, and I was miffed by the stunt Gromph pulled (it would have been better if it had actually been Mielikki), but Gromph continues to intrigue me. Jarlaxle was a blast to read about, as always. I was saddened by Tos'un's death. I had hopes for him, that he would turn around for the better, but such is apparently not the case. I don't really understand why he abandoned his home among the elves in the first place, but oh well. I am curious to see what the next book holds.

I recommend it to Forgotten Realms fans, especially now that we aren't seeing as many Realms novels--I hope that changes. It was good enough, and the Drizzt books have indeed improved since Catti-brie and the others have returned. I'm sorry, but Gauntlgrym and the following books, in which Drizzt went ultra angsty (and I like angst), and traveled with Dahlia and the others, were not my favorites. I'm glad the story has picked up again.

Let me start by mentioning I gave a bad review to the last book in this series. I believe VOTID is a major improvement. Gromph and Jaraxle are the two most interesting characters to me at this point in Salvatore's novels. They play large roles in the book and I really want to know their end games. I also want to know why the Copper Dragon sisters were so helpful.

Also, the dragon fight in this book is the best dragon fight I have ever read visually. I purposefully slowed down my reading pace to read those portions. I loved the imagery of what it would be like to fight while riding a dragon.

The only complaint I have is too many dwarves whose personalities are too similar. I had a hard time keeping track of who was who.

I'm excited that the next novel's name has already been released, "Archmage". This can only be Gromph and I can only hope that he maneuvers to become the first male ruler of Menzoberranzan. I can only hope for a showdown with Gromph, Jaraxle, Drizzt, and Kimmuriel teaming up fighting against several Drow priestesses. I'm starting to pick up on a deeper brotherly bond between Gromph and Jaraxle although Gromph would never admit it.
In conclusion, nice job Mr. Salvatore.

If you are looking for a book that will hold you entranced & leave you impatient to read more, then this is the book for you! The story felt every bit like a story from the early days of the Companions story but, in some ways, even better! Magic, melee, huge armies clashing, & not to mention a battle of dragons! This is the ultimate culmination of the Drizzt series that we'd all been waiting for!

This book and the one before it reminded me why I like these books. I'd lost the story and the desire to read them.. purchasing as much out of habit as anything. Their might even be a mediocre/bad review on a few of the previous ones. As someone who has read these stories since I was a child, it swelled my breast to read of Dwarven vengeance. I'd finish reading a section, turn around and read it all over again because it was what i'd been waiting for. Maybe childhood nostalgia struck me, but this was a good read. I'm also strongly looking forward to more about Gromph.

Poor Gromph, he dared to hope.

This book is good, but not great. This trilogy seems to have fallen into "repeat" mode, another orc war that the companions start fighting, get separated, finally reunite. It's starting to feel like a Forgotten Realms soap opera with the repeated story formula. The read was enjoyable, but I would rank this book in the middle third of the whole Companion series, not the best, not the worst. This new series is certainly not fulfilling the hopes I had when I read The Companions, which was a 5+ star book.

Worth reading, but I can't give it a "buy" rating at hardback pricing. Maybe at paperback.

I'm a longtime Drizzt fan and R.A Salvatore is in top form, once again. The story is exciting, the writing excellent, however, some of the drama is a bit overplayed and predictable at this point. I would be delighted to get a Jarlaxle (pre-Drizzt era) series or more from Artemis Entreri. Those characters were so richly explored in the Patriarch set and throughout the Neverwinter saga. Nevertheless, Iron Dwarf is an excellent read for new and longtime fans alike. You can't miss with Salvatore's great work!

Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf is the third book in R.A. Salvatore’s Companions Codex and the twenty seventh book featuring the Drow Ranger Drizzt Do’urden. Like with every other book in the Legend of Drizzt I found myself counting down the days till the next installment, and I have to say that Vengeance of the iron Dwarf did not disappoint in the least. Personally I found it to be the best book in the series by at least a decade. It has everything in it that I think makes the Forgotten Realms book so much fun to read.

Vengeance takes up right where Rise of the King leaves off, the Treaty of Garumn’s Gorge has been broken and the orcs are once more waging a proxy war against the people of the Silver Marches. With the orcs destroying or besieging all of the dwarven kingdoms, it’s up to the Companions to try and free them to give the Silver Marches a fighting chance. But with Regis and Wulfgar trapped in the upper levels of the Underdark, and the rest of companions trapped in Mithril Hall will they be able to do it?

Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf has everything in it that I have come to love about the Legends of Drizzt. Salvatore has always put a great deal of thought and detail into the massive battles and one on one duels that fill the pages of the series, and with Vengeance has taken it to that next level. The Companions are amazing as always with each of them growing in ways I’d have never expected back in the early days of Drizzt Do’Urden. Cattiebrie and Regis stood out in this book the most to me, with Cattiebrie really coming into her own as a powerful mage, and with Regis coming to his friends rescue in miraculous ways instead of the other way around.

The only thing I was really disappointed in with this book was Drizzt himself, he just doesn’t seem to be the self doubting, moralistic drow I have grown to love. It is my hope that time among his friends outside of war will return him to the person he once was!

I think anyone who is a fan of the Forgotten Realms books will enjoy reading these books, as like all the other Drizzt books I think they are going to have repercussions that echo across the entire series. I would only suggest that anyone who has not read any other books in the series start from the very beginning, otherwise they are guaranteed to be confused in every possible way.

Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf is scheduled to be published March 3, 2015 by Wizards of the Coast.

I received a free copy of this publication in return for an honest review.

Love the companions if you haven't read any of this series don't cheat your self start at the beginning and enjoy the 20+ books ahead of you. Drizzt and his companions what else is their to say?
Remember Tanis, Raistlin, Cameron,Tasslehoff and the bunch?
Weiss and Hickman wrote a book about their children.
The kids of Drizzt, Artemis, Jaraxle, Bruenor and the companions would be great.

Dragons vs dragons. It was like reading a draconic anthem out of dragonlance. I think this spectacle was worth the wait. Well written.
I liked the monk as well. His art takes on a totally new form of magic.
No entreri, but I'm pretty sure he will return in the next book.

I waited until it got close to Archmage (September 1, 2015) to read this because I knew I could only wait so long before I had to find out what is going on with Drizzt. I am so happy the Gromph, Kimmuriel and Jarlaxle are all involved in this plot and judging by the outcome will be involved in thee next book.

I've enjoyed all 27 or so Drizzt books so far but now they are actually starting to wear on me. They are starting to blend together more and more. I hardly feel any emotion anymore while reading them. It's almost as though the same storylines are being recycled. These last couple Drizzt books just feel tired. After 27 or so the allure of these books is fading.

This was yet another par addition to the Legend of Drizzt. Nothing grabs you, nothing gets you emotional, and you trudge through it really waiting and hoping something different happens. It's really frustrating, actually. Drizzt needs a MAJOR overhaul. Otherwise, I'm afraid these books are just going to remain stale.

I read all of ra's books and usually look forward to a really good ending. This one felt rushed a bit and missing something. The end climactic battle didn't seem like it, just a way to close the story.

As always he leaves a million threads loose to keep the story going.

I've had problems reading Salvatore's books since his first release. Some are good (the Cleric Quintet), then the rest seem as if they were written for two year old children just learning to read. Another frustrating aspect is Salvatore is touted as creative and imaginary. However, his stories are all the same......from one series to the next. No one is truly dead as you'll see them later one having been miraculously saved or resurrected. Same tired people throughout, with maybe one or two new people. One thing you can count on with Salvatore is that if he introduces a new person, expect them to be dead by the end of the book. I've been reading all of the books hoping for something different and if I weren't a completionist, I would have stopped reading them a long time ago.

Where did the Salvatore of The Cleric Quintet go?

For the book and the author, 5 stars! For the price listed as new being $899.99!? WTF!? Minus points. So, overall 4 stars. How can a new, hardcover book only (What, a few years old?) be that damn expensive? F that, big time!

The Companions of the Hall continue to achieve greatness time after time just like my championship winning dynasty, the Spurs. Just when the world starts to call them old and boring, new life is breathed into them and they defy all odds by overcoming the multitude of obstacles that come their way. Using discipline, teamwork, their combined understanding of their abilities, and trust in the system, they continue to be the lone beacon of hope in a quickly darkening world...if the Spurs ever battled the Companions...that would truly be the greatest battle ever.
