I like the book and I am very happy that Max and Fang are finally together. I liked the way it was ended...you know that the other are alive and Fang and Dylan have no hard feelings. I love that Max finally tells Fang that she loves him. I love that Fang also admitted his feelings for Max. I am very happy that it ended the way it did.

THIS REVIEW DOES NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS.
So, as a huge Maximum Ride fan (like many others who purchased the this book), I had really high hopes for Nevermore. James Patterson is one of my favorite writers, but this book was not what I expected at all.
Again I say, the series should have ended after the 3rd book.
The 4th book (The Final Warning) was WAY too rushed and brought random problems to the story.
The 5th book (Max) was about the same.
The 6th book (Fang) added more to the already confusing story line.
And the 7th book (Angel) is where I kind of lost interest in the whole story (sad to say).
I was hoping this last book would fix it all or at least explain some of the story. But sadly, it did not.
The book was not terrible, but it was no good either. It left A LOT of questions unanswered. And I mean, A TON.
In short: the characters were definitely OUT of character for most of the book, the plot was understandable but still a tad confusing, focused WAY too much on Max, Fang, and Dylan (which I know the series is called Maximum Ride, but it is about the rest of the flock too), MANY of the events in the book were unexplained and really could have just been left out completely (as they played no significant role in the book at all), and the ending was just...random? Unnecessary? Depressing? I cannot even think of words to describe it. The ending just...bothered me.
I could write for hours on how this book irritated me, or how it could have been better, or even what parts of the book I enjoyed. But honestly, I don't want to spoil it for anyone who has yet to read Nevermore.
If you are a Maximum Ride fan, then you should read this book to finish the series. I finished within hours but found myself skipping paragraphs until something happened due to my lack of interest caused by the previous books. It may not have been the best book, but it definitely wasn't the worst.

I found nevermore to be an ok ending to the maximum ride series, Patterson had kind of lost his touch for such an amazing series though. The bad part about nevermore is that it leaves a blank space between all the main characters, and max and fang turned out seeming like edward and bella. this book was also quite amazing! this book is a must buy!!!!
The Final Warning: A Maximum Ride Novel (Book 4) :: Saving the World: A Maximum Ride Novel (Book 3) :: Fang: A Maximum Ride Novel :: School's Out - Forever (Maximum Ride, Book 2) :: Max: A Maximum Ride Novel

This was an amazing book. I am 18 years old and absolutely loved it and all the others in the series. Of course I am upset that this is the last one, but I loved the way it ended and thought that the wrap up was nicely done. I am also a sucker for a good, suspenseful romance, and this book definitely has it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy/syfy stories, but read the others first.

So sad. I hope in the future Mr. Patterson will write more of these books. My daughter came to visit and I was showing her all of my books. that was the last we saw of her while she was here. she was stuck on the series and took them home. Thanks for the stories

I've been with the flock from the beginning. Since the fourth book came out the series has taken a turn to being a more market pushing book than I think the series deserved. Overall though I still really enjoy all the books and the final book was a decent wrap up to the series. I think all of the fans can agree that Max will be missed, I will miss looking forward to the next book.

I rated this book 5 stars because it was so detailed. There is a lot of boy drama in this book. James Patterson is my inspiration and I now want to become an author. I would suggest this book to anyone 10+ because it can get very violent.

My heart stopped....I can't even explain... I really is the time for maximum ride... she was the best hero of all time... I love her so much... if I could I would give this book 100 stars!!! I am glad with the cliff hanger about Max's mom and the rest of the people cause it makes you think for yourself... "it's the time for maximum ride."

I love the final book. I wish i wouldn't have ended the way it did, but have been another ending book on how they react to the events taken place in Nevermore. I really hope this is not the last we hear of Maximum Ride and the Flock.

This book was an ok ending to the series, but it was not as good as I expected. It seems like it just stopped randomly without any real sense of completeness. I loved the story itself, but it just felt unfinished. I do recommend people read this one for completeness because it does mostly end things. I hope James Patterson will write some kind of future stories about what happened after the end of this series because it feels empty that there is so much left unknown. I won't bore you with a plot summary because I know other reviewers are fond of doing that. I do think this book is worth reading for fans of the series. I would say this book is sad, but it fights with the abruptness of its ending and the lack of information that I would have appreciated being there that wasn't. I'm glad certain things happenedin this book, but not many, while the very things I'm glad happened feel incomplete. Give it a shot if you've stuck with the series up to this point.

James Patterson is one of the best authors I've read and, I was kind of disappointed when I heard this was the last Maximum Ride book. Anyways, your books are wonderful and I hope you keep writing books as fascinating as these, maybe one day you can make a movie. I'd be the first to watch.

Ok, I can tell just from reading one review that people nearly hate this book. I disagree. Frankly, I think that this book ended fairly well, considering what it could have been. You guys may think that it was disappointing, but after how badly Angel was written, this was a big relief. I swear, I took this book and read it straight through and after about 3 hours, I was completely satisfied. At least they didn't all die in one fell swoop like Angel said, right? I get it; could have been better, but he ended it fairly well and I can't wait to read his next series or read this book again.

I loved following this series all the way through the end. Patterson captures the essence of a teenager in various situations, wings or without. I felt I was really flying with the Flock in all the wonderful imagery expressed in this novel.

There's some fanfiction that has ended the story better than this. I am really dissapointed in the quality of this book it mostly revolved around the love triangle of Max. I wish it would have been written like the first three books before it got turned into a remake of twilight with different stories but same basics. It wraps it all up as if it were no longer an important story. I do like who ends up with who, but its just left too open ended like this is only part one of all the confusion. Also it seems as though the other characters were not given a storyline except being puppies following Max, what happened to all the leadership skills they each carried? Overall cheesy and already done.

Since fourth or fifth grade, I have enjoyed the maximum ride books, and loved the series dearly. With its x men like ideal and interesting and weblike plot, it captivated me for a good 4 years. This final entry has ended the series spectacularly and I will dearly miss Ms. Maximum Ride and friends.

This book is an incredible ending to the maximum ride series. This book reads quickly despite being over three hundred pages long. If someone hasn't read the Maximum Ride series yet they should read it just so they can arrive at this final book. The book is filled with drama, excitement, and twists. No one will believe how this book ends or begins.

I started reading this series because my son wanted to read it. I was worried the ending would be less than satisfying and while there is always more that could be written, James left us with the sense that the flock would be safe and that all their struggles were for their good in the end.

It was a really good book and if this ever gets to the author what happened to Nudge , Iggy , Gazzy, Tottal, and Akilla? We do not get to know if they live or not. Other than that it was a really good book and a hate that the series is over.

I don't think I need to say how much I have loved the Maximum Ride books and this is equal to the rest.
I wish this wasn't the end. It ends with the place I love to read about in other books. Not going to explain further. Just wish there was more.

Loved this series and you whould start with the 1st book. The characters are well developed and you become absorbed in the adventure and cheering when their plans are successful. When the plans aren't successful, you are on the end of your chair to find out what will happen next. Wishing for more!

Nevermore was beautifully written and very grabbing with lot of twists and turns. SPOILER ALERT
I'm even more satisfied that max and fang ended up together because when Maya came, I expected differently. I would have never expected that ending, and this is a great book overall. I cant wait until the movie comes out! I hope its as great as the book.
But the very very end of the book like the last chapter was a little dissatisfying but that's it. I think you should read this book.

The beginning was cheesy and reminded me of a fanficton, and JP didn't tie up alot of loose ends...Anne? Brigit? Max's Mom Talking To Chu? I'm confused. But I did like how it ended, and I'm glad Max didn't end up with Dylan.

First let me stress than I am an adult (most days) and not the book's target audience of young readers. With that said, this product I believe is intended for children 10 and up. I have an almost 9 year old who is a very advanced reader and I do not believe this would be an appropriate book for her. Way to much on the romance side of things regarding Fang Dylan and Max.
With that out of the way, while I would worry about how appropriate it was for a young audience, I personally really enjoyed it. This book is great closure. I love that in the end I was not left with a plethora of unanswered questions. One of the biggest reveals for me was the identity of The Voice, and I am so happy this was included.
Max stayed true to character. She showed her continued softening, but never lost her ability to lead. She remains a strong heroine, which is very welcome. She wasn't quite as headstrong and stubborn as she has been in the past, there is definite character growth where she is concerned. Her choice of priorities in the end was admirable and believable, and really helped sell me on the story.
At times I did think it was a bit to cliche, injuries were just to inconsequential, answers were a little to easy, but it is after all a children's book.
The pacing was fantastic. The length did leave a bit to be desired, but again, I am an adult reader. I don't think the length would have annoyed me as much had the last 13% of the product not been a preview of a different book. It really makes it deceptive about the true length of the book you are buying. The actual story stops on 344, not 380. I read the entire thing in under 3 hours.
I do think longtime fans of the series will be satisfied.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I thought it was awesome and amazing. I don't understand why people didn't like it. The ending was awesome and unexpected, yet deep down I think I expected it. I know, that is too confusing to explain. I think you should give the book a chance and read the ENTIRE thing. Or you wont like it if you don't read it all. Ive read tons and tons of books and I think this is one of my favorites and I hardly ever can choose a favorite. I highly recommend you read the whole thing. If your unsure about it check it out of a library. I cant say this enough but... I LOVED THIS BOOK and series.

alright so as i see it, pretty much everyone hated this book. i can understand. the book had a wierd plot and was'nt very actioney. but hey this is the last book. last books are a pain to write and read. i can name five great sries with horrible endings.kane chronicles, harry potter, narnia, artemis fowl and the humer games. it is expected from ending book, they never end as we wish. i found this ending fulfillimg and as expected. character did change alot, but they also grew. you can't ask for much more. so stop baggin on james patterson. just look back and remember how good the series is overall

I absolutely loved this series! ...Well, the first three books at least. The first three books in the series deals with Max being a strong and independent leader, kicking butt and not taking crap from ANYONE. However, these past couple of books have been totally random, adding little plot holes here and there. Like Doctor Chu? The One Light cult? Global Warming( which, honestly, I thought that was totally irrelevant to the plot of the books anyway.)? Yeah, none of that is mentioned. Although Mark, the leader of the one light group, makes a guest appearance for 2 or so pages...until he dies. Again. Like, seriously? This group pops up out of NO WHERE, brainwashes who knows how many kids, blows up the city of Paris, and is barely mentioned? And I thought the whole plot of the past seven books was to save the world? Apparently Max did too, until the "End of the World" comes and she does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
MAX: World's gonna end? Awesome. Lemme know when i'm needed. In the meantime, i'm going to make out with two hot guys and rip myself apart trying to figure who i'd rather be with. TTYL.
It was ridiculous. And Fang's Gang? There's a betrayal by Star and Kate, someone dies, and Fang leaves the rest just hanging in the middle of the desert, never to be heard from again. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF FANG'S GANG? An opportunity to add in a love interest for Fang? Cause you never see the rest again.
The Voice? Predictable. I already knew who it was before I opened the book.
Now onto... The Epidemic. Max is already loaded down with saving the world, trying to stop crazy scientists from experimenting on people, defeating Erasers (or whatever the heck they've mutated into now), world peace, global warming, the One Light, and now, as if this emotionally unstable girl needed any more to deal with, and Epidemic that will wipe out the whole planet. Honestly, if this much is going on, there's no way a 15 year old girl with relationship issues and an inferiority complex is gonna save ANYONE.
So many plot holes have been introduced to the story line with the past couple of books, and this book just keeps adding them! Not going to be able to save the world? Let's just add a life threatening epidemic you can stop! ...What? You can't do that either? Then stop global warming! No? Okay, can you stop the One Light? Who?... Okay, nevermind. We'll just let you sort out your relation ship issues and just let the rest work out.
Seriously. Consistency is a major issue I have with this series. The first three books it was like, "Okay, we can work things out, we've still got an entire series to figure out what going on and how to fix it!"
By the end, it's like, "Dude, making out with your boyfriends is NOT a solution." So many things were wrong with the character development, which consisted of NONE, and by the end the characters were all so OOC that I kinda just wanted Max to fail and them all to die just to be done with it. Honestly, that would have given more closure to this series.
So, no. If you have to read it, i'd just rent it from the library and not even spend money on the book. It was an interesting start to a series, which had potential, but by this book, it was a total cop out pretty similar to the Hunger Games or the LOST tv show. All we needed was consistency and closure, but we couldn't even get that, could we, Patterson?

Okay. Now, I just want to say that I have waited for this book, and I am a teenager, for nearly a year now.
I went to the bookstore today and asked for the book, waiting for three hours until they received a shipment, and then fangirled out when I bought it. Like I was half-crying and fanning my face.
On my walk home I started reading it and as soon as I hit the first chapter I knew something was up.
Now, in past books, I know that Angel can communicate with others from far away with her mind.
Did she suddenly stop now? Did she never even consider her probably greatest power?
And then it never occurred to Max that Angel might be back at the School, where they'd been captured countless times.
Come on.
And then, Fang's Gang? What?!
More like Fang, some traitors, and two guys who'll leave the plot and you'll just assume turn out fine.
Y'know, cause that's how James Patterson rolls.
Kate and Star were traitors, and what the heck happened to Ratchet and Starfish? Does it automatically make it 100% okay if they're cast out of the plot like idiots?
NO.
That was a massive gaping plot hole right there.
Next, when Ari came back, I literally said, out loud, "OH DEAR JESUS NOT AGAIN."
He died in the first book.
Then James Patterson was like, "Psyche! Haha, he's not dead yet!"
He came back to life again in the third book.
Died again. WAS BURIED.
Now is another clone.
Killed Maya. WHAT THE-
Maya, I thought, was actually a nice little tertiary character! I thought she was actually going to end up with Dylan! And then I'd be happy!
But nooo.
And then, when he dies again, it was like you couldn't trust him to not come back.
And speaking of coming back, when Fang did, back to the flock, instead of questioning him responsibly like she should, Max will throw A PARTY.
A party. So your long lost love comes back presumably from the dead, and then you make a cake and assume that it's a band-aid.
Oh, abandoned me and your practical family? Here, have some cake. It'll make it all better.
Please.
Then, the Erasers and Ari come back and it's all a crapfest and a massive fight, Fang nearly dies, and then Ari dies and so do the rest of the Erasers.
Boom. There's another plot hole missing right there.
And then we find out that Fang's DNA holds the key to immortality? How would almost fifteen years of being experimented on in the School not reveal that? It's like going to the doctor's in the next, uhm, I don't know, month, and they say this:
"Oh, you just have the key to Immortality, yeah it's normal."
._.
And since this is ridiculously long, I'll just say my feelings on the ending.
Now, Max talks to Fang and then Dylan goes insane and smashes cars because he looooooves her, yeah, no.
IT WAS FAX IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE FAX IT NEVER WAS ANYTHING BUT FAX. Get that through your head, James.
So then when Max and Fang got back together I was saying: "Awh, yay."
Because if she would have ended up with Dylan I would have thrown the book across the room.
So then, when I thought they were gonna go save the States from the 99% group,
THE SKY EXPLODES!?! WHAT!?!
Who the heck told James Patterson that that was an acceptable ending? Riddle me that.
AND THE WORST THING WAS THAT IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MAIN AGRESSOR OF THE BOOK, THE 99% GROUP!
Then there's the tsunami, and then there was the chapter when Max said that she died with Fang, and she was happy that it ended that way.
I was torn between crying, screaming, sobbing, and punches various items near me like a lamp while reading that chapter.
Then Dylan comes in and saves everyone, and I was like,
"TELL US THE TRUTH. DID YOU DIE OR NOT?"
Then it said that she developed gills, and I was happy at least if she didn't die.
And then it ends with her saying that it's, quote, "The Time Of Maximum Ride."?!?!
Oh no, I'm sorry, the last seven books weren't?! Are you KIDDING?!
The last 7 books were the time of Maximum Ride! Who are you kidding! No one!
The world has ended, and now you're saying that it's your time?!
Ugh, I JUST CAN'T EVEN.
I honestly wish that I could give this book less than a star, because I've spent the last five hours watching my entire childhood, tweenhood, and teenhood go up in fire.
I know you'll buy it and read it, but then you'll end up writing a review like me. Believe it.
Sorry I had to write that, but it's true.

If this was where the series was heading, I'm absolutely overjoyed that Max's story is finally over!
The writing from James Paterson has been declining with every book and 'Nevermore' is no exception whatsoever. Every time Max described herself as hyperventilating or about to I wanted to roll my eyes and throw the book at the wall. She literally does this every three or so chapters, which are all very, very short chapters, and usually in response to something Dylan does. And, yes, Max, we understand that Dylan is so breathtakingly beautiful and perfect. If I had a dollar for every time Dylan is described, I would be rolling in a pile of money.
And Fang. Just... Fang. And not in a good way at all. I wonder what the purpose of Fang's gang was supposed to be. Since, well, *SPOILER ALERT* it kind of just ended like that. And Maya! She dies in Fangs arms, telling him that she loved him. And his response? To say 'I know', break up the gang, and return to Max all like 'I LOVE YOU I'VE ALWAYS LOVED YOU'. *END SPOILERS* It's really sad, since I really used to like Fang. Now he's a total jerk with priority issues.
The romance was so terribly done I can't believe I trucked through to the end of this absolute mess. I mean, the way Max acts in this book is decidedly not very Max-ish at all. It feels like a poorly written fan-fiction focusing on who Max will pick.
And character development is completely non-existent in this novel. Max, Fang, and the rest of the characters don't change a budge from beginning to end. Well, MAYBE Dylan, but just a little. In fact, the only likable characters are probably Dylan, Iggy, Gazzy, and Nudge. Everyone else was just unbearable. At least Dylan had his mind made up on who he loved, I mean. And Angel swapped from innocent like she was was in the first trilogy to evil and back again and again and again. I mean, wow. And not in a good way.
Over all, I hated this ending so much I'm glad I didn't buy this book, instead choosing to borrow from a library. I really wish this wasn't the true ending and that Paterson would write a better one, but unfortunitly that is not going to happen. Read if you want, but all you are going to be is disappointed, oh so very, very disappointed.

*WARNING: This review contains spoilers. I can't do this without giving plot details away. Also, be prepared for this to evolve into a rant against James Patterson, because...well, I guess you'll see. Lastly, all curse words have been censored with asdf.*
Where on earth do I begin to say what went wrong with Nevermore?
First of all, you have to understand where I'm coming from. I'm a teenager, and while I am not the most die-hard Max Ride fan, I've read each new book as it came out, starting with book five. When I read Book One, The Angel Experiment, I read all 400+ pages of it in one sitting. Then the downward spiral began. It took me three sitting to finish the meager 250 pages that Book Four was. And you know what, it took me TEN entire sittings (yes, I counted) to finish 300 pages of this asdf.
Let's get something really ugly over with first. Everyone on the planet dies. Except, of course, for Max, Fang, Angel and DYLAN. First of all, whatever happened to Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy, Ella, or just the entire world?! And why is DYLAN still there? We are told that the planet was destroyed by firestorms or something. My reaction: whatever.
Then there's the matter with Angel. I LOVE (note the sarcasm) how Max just assumed that Angel was dead. Then, some random guy on the internet (and the random guy's identity is never really revealed) tells her that he saw Angel, and Max just starts flying there?! Also: Angel was the Voice? Okay, sure. At this point I really don't care. It may have crossed my mind a few times, but I really don't care.
Fang. Jeb suddenly comes up all of a sudden, and drops a bomb that he's immortal? Say whaaaaat? And then...they want to kill him because he's immortal?? Sorry, Mr. Patterson, my PUNY brain does not comprehend. Speaking of Jeb, we never really know if he's a good guy or not. He dies. With the rest of the planet. And speaking of Fang, Fang's gang was a totally unnecessary side-plot. Why would you kill Maya off with Ari--yes, you read that correctly, Ari gets resurrected AGAIN--and then have the rest of the gang betray Fang? By the end of the book I read a death scene just like any other scene because I simply stopping caring. They had no value.
Am I missing something? By golly, YES I AM! I HAVEN'T DISCUSSED THE ASDF-ING LOVE TRIANGLE YET! There is one point in the book, and I kid you not, that Max makes a chart for three. entire. pages. on her two boys, Fang and Dylan. Is this not already the most obvious love triangle in the world? Can we not see that Dylan is an asdf? I mean, HE TRIED TO KILL FANG AT THE END!!! CAN YOU NOT SEE THIS?? The love triangle ruined everything. Max used to be a fearless leader that I'd want as a friend. Now, she's just a whiny, boring, useless teenager. That I would not want as a friend.
And you know what the most annoying aspect of it all is? At the end of the book is an entire THIRTY-SIX PAGE ADVERTISEMENT for James Patterson's next series. It's as if this book was just published so it could advertise something else while making asdf-loads of money at the same time. Well, I'm certainly not going to be reading that series. For once James Patterson has given a book a title that makes sense, because I'm seriously considering NEVER reading any MORE of his books.
What's ironic is that on the library copy of the book I read, there was a sticker saying "Maximum Ride R.I.P." I agree with that sticker. Rest in peace, Max. You used to be good.

Nevermore is the eighth and (thankfully) final novel in the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. The action opens with Max, Dylan, Iggy, Gazzy and Nudge living in Oregon and going to school, trying to be normal kids. Fang's gang, Fang, Maya, Star, Kate, Ratchet and Holden are in California where Fang is monitoring the activity of the 99%ers, an extension of the Doomsday group from the previous novel. Angel, missing since events in Paris, is being held at the School by, you guessed it, those evil scientists, doing nasty experiments and surgical procedures. Much of the Max chapters are filled will teen angst. Lots of nasties from previous books turn up: another version of Ari and the Erasers; Jeb Batchelder; and Gunther-Hagen. The Voice is again heard, by Fang and all the Flock. Once again, we have the situation of the Flock going to rescue one of their members from captivity in a lab full of evil, psychotic scientists: how many times have we done this now? Does saving the world include recycling plots as well as paper? The Flock finally end up on a tropical island paradise, and if that sounds too god to be true, well, of course it is. It is hard to know why Patterson dragged this series out for so long. Or perhaps it isn't; I borrowed this book from the library as I wasn't going to outlay money after the last two. The writing is poor, the plot predictable and the characters wooden. In the first Fang chapter, Patterson even forgot that Fang's gang had six members. I stubbornly stuck with this series even when it went seriously downhill after Saving the World, because I wasn't going to let it beat me: thank god that's over!!

Guest review by Chayse:
I yelled, I screamed, I cried, I wanted to throw the book (not literally), I was just an emotional wreck. I have waited patiently for this book and when I got it, i didn't want to read it. I didn't want to say goodbye to a world that I fell in love with from the beginning. I didn't want to say goodbye to the characters that I am sure I wasn't the only one to fall in love with. I just didn't want to say...Good Bye!
I was so glad to have one more adventure with the characters that I started crying right from the first page. I was ready to say bye to some but not all. However, James Patterson doesn't give me the chance to say bye when he just....sorry you have to read to find out.
The romance in here was the part I wanted to scream at the most. I wanted to yell at Max and call her names for what she was doing but I had to sit back and read what she did. In the end, I had a bittersweet feeling of how it all turned out. It was good but I had my doubts.
The surprises that this book and author has in store for the reader is the one thing that will make this book so much more exciting. I knew I gasped whenever secrets were revealed telling you something of a character that you didn't know.
The ending for me was alright. I wish it could have ended differently, however, the events that led up to it was so intense that I wish there was more.
This book and series is a must read for all readers. I fell in love with the series and I know you will too. James Patterson will take you on a Maximum Ride.

Well, what a let down for fans of the Maximum Ride series. This is a rushed and forced finale that butchers the characters we have come to know and love. (spoilers start about here). What ever happened to Max, the Kicker of Asses? I don't recognize this soppy, confused, downright mild girl at all. She forgives Fang at the drop of a hat - the Max I know wouldn't have HUGGED him upon return, she would have broken his nose. Then hugged him, if he was lucky.
Nudge swings from "I'm going to get rid of my wings one day" to being totally content again. Angel reveals herself to be the Voice and somehow Max isn't bothered for more than a few seconds (Where oh where has the Ass-Kicker gone...) and Fang... that little coward comes crawling back to Max only after her REPLACEMENT is killed. There's nothing brave or worthy or honorable about him any longer. Dylan, always a little purposely ambiguous for mystery's sake, is now downright schizophrenic. Iggy and Gasman are barely visible in the background - Gazzy has all of four lines - and Total is much the same. On the canine topic, can I take this opportunity to point out that Akila is not a Samoyed as Nevermore claims, she's a MALAMUTE.
The plot is even worse than the ruined characters. Dr. Martinez is evil and torturing Angel one minute, and conveniently brainwashed and taking the Flock to a island paradise the next. The world is going to be turned to ash by the 99% group who hate all humans and... what do we know about them? Are THEY normal humans? The Split is not explained, the virus IS explained and then... may or may not have even happened, what a waste of page space... Max "Dies" but doesn't and as a consequence her very valuable message is the most forced part of the book as she narrates directly to the reader, ruining the effort. The message was passed along better when it was more subtle, in previous books.
A book I'll throw at the far end of the bookshelf and never bother with re--reading.

I am so happy I didn't buy this book that I borrowed it from the library but this was the worst ending. THERE BASICALLY IS NO POINT TO THIS SERIES.
I read all book and I thought that they were decent books I loved saving the world and other extreme sports but each books adventure becomes predictable like you already know someone will be kidnaped in each book but there were some twists I liked Dylan more then Fang but I knew that Max would pick Fang over Dylan but I at least thought that he would get a good ending but then again no one got an ending James is really going to be saying that this is the last max adventure and it's not!
At the beginning of this book it was alright but that ending killed this series and MR.PATTERSON doesn't even answer any questions at all and frankly I've already gotten annoyed by Max and we don't even know if she considers Dylan part of the flock and what happens to the other flock member or Fangs gang AND WASNT THIS BOOK ABOUT MAX SAVING THE WORLD SHE DOESN'T EVEN DO THAT LIKE REALLY!!!! WORST ENDING EVER DON'T READ THIS BOOK IT'S SO DISAPPOINTING !!!!!!!

Ok. Ok. Clearly James Patterson is broken, I mean he wouldn't do this to us on purpose would he? I mean...I can't say one good thing in this review, sorry.
*SPOILERS
Alright let's start from the beginning. This book was supposed to be the answer to all my questions - supposed to rid me of my confusion. Yeah, no. So Angel tell the group that Fang is going to be the first to die. Okkkayyy. Alright. He leaves to save the girl he loves. Got that, check. So in this book you want to know, why will he be the first to die? Is there like a sequence of people until it reaches Max? Is this some big prophecy/science mumbo jumbo? But Fang's little problem isn't really explained...something about it hardening Max's heart, so she's ready to get out there and face the apocalypse? Does that seem believable to you?? So anyway he's with Fang's gang, getting cozy with the Max clone, Maya. And I just think that's creepy. I mean you go get yourself a new Max? Ew. I know the real Fang from the other books never would have done that. Patterson totally changed Fang into someone stupid if you ask me. Then Maya dies and Fang's like "gotta go!" to the rest of the gang. I need to be with my old flock. WHAT? That's a gaping plot hole, where the heck does his gang go? Does he care if they live or die?
Then there was Max's flock. Okay repeat performance anyone? Dylan sweet talks Max into going to school, which has never gone over well for her flock. But she's so enamored with him that she agrees. Not smart! So they go to school- dissect a bird, get betrayed my some crazy teacher, and Nudge(who's twelve) dates a sixteen year old? WHHHATT? So finally they toss that idea when nothing goes well. Ah-huh. You're sitting there thinking I KNEW IT, I FREAKING KNEW IT. STUPID, STUPID MAX. ANNOYING, ANNOYING DYLAN GET OUT OF THE BOOK.
Yeah that's my next point. I didn't like Dylan at first, mostly because I loved Fax with all my heart. But the more I read the more I just didn't like HIM. First of all the way he loves Max...it's so clingy. If I was Max I would just tell him to stop eyeing her up like a lost puppy. Fang was always her equal, her partner, someone she could depend on. Dylan is young and naive and doesn't know anything about anything.
Then we get to the actual plot of the book. The 99% group, out to kill pretty much everyone. Whew, we haven't had enough of those type of groups. So after getting back Angel and finding out that her mom was brainwashed into torturing her, Max is like fine Mom take us away from here! To paradise, where we will be safe. On that paradise island they find out about a virus that's going to wipe out the whole population. I was hoping Max would save the world, but no. SHE LET'S EVERYONE FREAKING DIE, AND NOT BY THE VIRUS BUT OH YEAH THE SKY SUDDENLY EXPLODES AND THERE'S A TSUNAMI AND ONLY MAX, FANG, DYLAN, AND ANGEL ARE MENTIONED TO BE ALIVE. That came out of left field - I thought there was supposed to be a virus? I thought Max was the only hope for the world - but she doesn't even try to save them? Well she kind of does, but not too hard. So in the end its:
Maximum Ride Time. That's what she says and we're sitting here thinking - right, you're right Max, those humans they were getting IN THE WAY OF YOUR TIME! GOD I HATED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. THERE WERE LIKE FIVE GOOD BOOKS AND THEN THEY JUST WENT DOWNHILL FROM THERE.
Pathetic.

Wow, this book was a total mess! As others have said, I really like the first three books, but then continued reading hoping James Patterson would come to his senses. Sadly the last book in the series did not deliver.
Spoiler Alert! It seems Mr. Patterson read all the reviews about how awful the Fang gang and Dylan were and how everyone wanted Max and Fang together, then wrote this last book. Basically he was like okay I'll just get ride of some badly developed characters and make Dylan go crazy. There was no new developments just more of the old. There's a crazy group wanting to kill everyone, Angel gets captured and then rescued, and to top it off a meteor hits the earth and everything is different, but okay! REALLY!!!!!!!!! I think I'll keep the first three and throw the rest out, what a disappointment!!!

There's a crazy group wanting to kill everyone, Angel gets captured and then rescued, and to top it off a meteor hits the earth and everything is different, but okay! REALLY!!!!!!!!! I think I'll keep the first three and throw the rest out, what a disappointment!!!

I was a little disappointed, to be honest. I kind of read through the whole thing with a WTF look on my face. I feel like some things have been overdone in the series, even though I loved the previous books. But it's glaringly obvious that the same thing keeps happening. A new baddie group that Max has to fight. Someone gets kidnapped. Ari comes back - again. And the ending was strange.
I mean, I was mildly confused because SPOILER Max and Fang died, but they didn't. There was a whole chapter with Max talking about how she was glad for everything and it was okay, because she got to die with her love, AKA Fang - finally! I always knew they would end up together and Dylan was just a little hitch on the way. Only, they weren't really dead. And those two, Dylan, and Angel survived the end of the world. No clue what happened to the others. Are they stuck in the caves now that the entrence is underwater? Did they drown? They coming back anytime soon?
All in all, it was a good read, but not great. And kind of not an ending. I feel like things weren't really tied up and it felt like a different book compared to the first ones.

I must say I was eagerly anticipating the final book in the Maximum Ride series. I even waited reading it until I knew I had a free, undisturbed day so I could get absorbed into the flock again. However, after finishing this last installment, the storyline fell short of my personal build-up.
I would like to start off by saying that I love the flock. I enjoy the action, their camaraderie, their plight to keep away from a world who wants to hurt or exploit them. We've seen the flock fight Erasers, Flyboys, clones, and evil scientists. We've seen them defeat Ari (more than once), tackle the trials of going to school, and even be the poster children for saving the Earth. We've seen the flock captured, separated, injured in every imaginable way, and even given a fashion make-over.
What we have NOT seen in the last few books is creativity and character growth. Iggy, Nudge, and Gazzy are only given personality quirks instead of being three-dimensional main characters. Fang's gang are just throw-away characters who are left behind and not discussed or thought of again (even when they were the saving grace of the previous book, Angel). Jeb and Dr. Martinez fluidly move from the good side to the bad side so much that I never know which part of their schizophrenic personalities I'll see in each book. Fang is back more to his old self, which is a much needed relief, but the whole Dylan-Max situation seems forced and unnatural in this book.
After finishing the final book, I decided to re-read the series from the beginning to try and see where Mr. Patterson started going wrong. True, the flock is put in some repetitive situations, and yes, sometimes they develop random mutations that are not mentioned again ever in the series (like Angel being able to change her appearance in Final Warning & Nudge finding out she can manipulate metal, also from the book Final Warning), but it wasn't until the introduction of Dylan in the book Fang that things started going downhill. Basically I made it to the first 100 pages of Angel before I declared the series "dead". If only they had stopped while they were ahead and ended the series with the book Max... *sigh*
Overall, a very disappointing ending to a well-loved series.

im an EXTREME Maximum Ride Fan. this was good but the ending was - OKAY. look. they leave u off which ticked ME off. i was like - WAAAAAT. but James Patterson made it up by making tears in my eyes. i SERIOUSLY thought Max was gonna die. but of course she doesnt. i mean WHO KILLS OFF THEIR MAIN CHARACTERS?! but really? the whole Dylan vs Fang drama couldnt wait until after the apocolypse? ( by the way u DIDNT save the world Max) besides - WHY FANG? hes the jerk who broke away from the flock, falls in lov with basically a REPLACEMENT then she dies and OH MY GOSH IMMA GO BACK TO MAX NOW THAT HER CLONE IS DEAD.
BUT despite the flaws, the action was rivoting and all of the drama kept u on the edge of ur seat.

i really liked the series; it's a realy awesome cocept… but this book downright SUCKED. I mean, what with the whole team fang vs team dylan crap, and angel, and all the plot holes, like, i totally get why fang ditched star and kate, but WAT hapened to ratchet!?? And then there was Dr martinez, and when dylan looses max to fang, hes all 'but i LOVED her.' like after everything he expexts anything different. And ARI. i mean is he dead or WHAT?
This book was a major dissapointment, and there are just SO MANY unresolved things. Frankly, it was a finale unworthy of its predecessors.

I went to a bookstore to read it, so I wouldn't have to spend money on it, seeing as I have bought the other six, and there were weird plotholes. I am glad I dind't waste money on this book.
James Patterson is not very skilled with writing, it seems. I have read better fanfiction. Actuaally, it seemed like Patterson plagarized a tweleve-year-old girl's horribly written fanfiction.
Here is basically whatt happened, but in less words.
-Dylan slept in the same bed as Max, to create romantic-ness. (Which didn't work)
-Ari the man/boy/dog thrice dead came back to life. Wow. What a plot twist.
-Part of Fang's gang betrayed him for no reason
-Maya died.
-Meanwhile, Max went on a date with Dylan in a romantic treehouse setting. Nothing is more romantic than a date in a small place with someone who is claustropohobic.
-Fang came back to Max.
-Despite wanting to bite Fang's head off in the previous book, Max welcomed him back with loving arms. (and mouth)
-Angel went blind because the scientists opperated on her eyes. The blindness never really comes up again.
-They saved Angel in an anti-climatic scene.
-Jeb is bad. Max's mom is bad.
-Max and Fang make out.
-Dylan sees them kissing, and his voice tells him to kill Fang, because SHOCKER, Fang holds the key to immortality.
-Dylan flies away.
-The erasors and Ari attack. Didn't see that coming.
-Dylan flies back and kills Ari, and phantom menace style, the rest of the erasors die.
-Dlyan tries to kill Fang, but Max persuades him not to. Wow. Plot twist. Fang doesn't die.
-Jeb comes and says Fang holds the key to saving the human race. All he has to do is die. Fang doesn't want to die to save 7 billion people despit being half human himself. WOW! What a hero! What a role model! I want a boyfriend like that!
-They flock flies to an island with Max'x mom, despite the fact that Max'x mom is a whitecoat. Woww, Max, great move.
-Then a giant plot hole cracks the eart and water rushes forth, killing the human race, but not the flock, despite Iggy, Gazzy, and Nudge not being able to breathe underwater.
The end to a horrible book.
Plotholes:
-We never find out the flock's true parents.
-We never find out what the voices are.
-Dr. Ghunter Hagen never comes back.
-Dylan has great kissing skills despite being 2 years old.
-Dylan's age isn't a deciding factor for Max.
-Ari comes back to life again.
-The 99% isn't explained.
-The human race dies for no reason.
-Ari dies more than Rory from Doctor Who.'
-Total isn't metioned in the epilogue. Did he die?
-James Patterson geets on the bestseller list. The is the biggest plothole of them all.
I would suggest reading Twilight before reading Nevermore. It's that bad. Go read quality books. Not Maximum Ride. I started reading it because it was interesting. It isn't anymore. And I geuss I was too young to understand what crappy books are.

This is one of the few books I wanted to throw across the room/and then burn when I got to the "ending". No answers were given as to "why" the scientists created all the "mutants" in the first place. Why all the experimentation? Making more Erasers? How Max was fighting being part of the 1% until the last chapters, and then all of a sudden happy that she was in "paradise" and the rest of the world would die?! Maybe James Patterson wanted to tie into the Waterworld book, horrible concept that it was. Oh well, now I just have to either donate or sell the other books. I will not be reading the series again. So sad that Patterson took a great series, teaching about saving the environment, recycling, and what everyone can do to help...and then made it a moot point at the ending. :(

So, I just finished this book. All I can say is, SERIOUSLY? SERIOUSLY? This book was downright horrible, I'm usually more tolerable with bad books but after obsessing over the series for nearly a year, seeing it end so badly made cry, AND NOT BECAUSE IT WAS SAD EITHER... well it was sad, that James Patterson could end such an amazing series with such a bad last book.
So, if you are the majority, people who rated this a 5 star book (but I truly think those who gave it 5 stars haven't started reading this yet, high expectations probably), you will probably like an explanation as to why I found this book so bad.
*MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!*
#1: They go to school. I mean- what are trying to accomplish? "We are going to try to be normal" haha? How can a bunch of flying bird people be normal? When they are at school they encounter some evil science teacher working for Dr. Gunther-Hagen who delivers news to them. Nudge goes out with some dude, who calls her a freak and she cries about it all day, and shes like "One day Max, I'm going to get my wings off and become normal!"
#2: Maya dies. So, after hearing Max blabber about how her beloved Fang has Maya, and Blah, Blah, Blah she just dies battling ARI! oh yeah.... HE COMES BACK TO LIFE IN CLONE FORM, with ERASERS!!!!!!
#3: So, Ari comes back and is like, "My daddy brought me back to life cause' he was so horrible towards me. Now he told me to kill you. Then Maya protects Fang and ends up dying it his arms. Her last words "I love you Fang."
#4: Fang's Gang just disappears. Kate and Star become traitors in order to survive, then since Maya is dead Fang ditches Ratchet and Starfish, and now we just assume they survived everything too. Then he returns to the flock. Seriously he goes back for the third time. Remember in Fang, when Fang wrote the letter to Max he was like "I'll meet you in 20 years yadda yadda.." well, twenty years sure went by fast.
#5: When Fang returns to the flock, Max and Iggy throw him a party. Really A PARTY? Max should be interrogating him asking
him why the heck he came back!!!!
#6: When Fang and Dylan first meet Fangs first words: "I heard you've been sleeping in Max's rooms" really, wow Fang, great conversation starter.
#7: Dylan spies on Max and Fang with his super cool eye sight, realizes they still have feelings for each other abuses a bunch of cars, and then beats up Fang when the Flock are beating up some erasers "in order to save Max" they he disappears for like half the book.
#8: The Flock finds Angel (one thing I was happy about), Dr. Martinez and some rick guy take the Flock to some paradise place where there are many avian-humans. They took them there because all the normal humans are going to die due to some avian sickness that the bird kids are immune too. Also, there is some new evil group called the 99%.
#9: They world ends up ended due to the world splitting in half, Dylan saves then due to his eye sight. Then they somehow drown and Max is left with Angel as Fang and Dylan check to see how the damage is in that paradise place.
#10: We really don't know if Gazzy, Nudge, Iggy, Ella or any humans besides Dr. Martinez survive. I WANNA KNOW BOUT THE REST OF MY FLOCK> :(
#11: We never find out if Jeb truly is a good guy. (or bad)
#12: Chessiest ending ever. All character personalities, relationships, etc change.
-When Max and Fang start dating again and they are cute, like one of those mushy gushy romantic couples. They were NEVER LIKE THAT! They always would argue and start screaming at each other.
-Dylan accepts Max and Fang's relationship. REALLY? Now you decide to be normal?
-Most of the flock has no personality?? Iggy and Gazzy have like 5 lines each??
-We find out who Max's voice is. I was expecting it, but was hoping for something better.
-What made me most angry is that too many questions were left unanswered.
So, please comment if you have anything to say. James Patterson, please rewrite this, you will regain all respect. This made me cry, thats never happened before.

Is this what I've been waiting for? I've been waiting for seven book of high energy and suspense just to be let down.
Come on James Patterson. Did you get bored with this book? I was so disappointed about 1/3 the way through but I wanted
to finish the book hoping that it would get better.
Book after book told of Max and her flock saving the world. The books set up a scene of great destruction and the flock saving the humans.
This final book was just a dud. Why bring in Dylan? Why bring Fang back? Jeb should not have been saved!!
That is one that really upsets me.
Angel should have been the last book.
Again, I'm disappointed and feel let down.
I've read most of James Patterson books and I've only been disappointed in 3 or 4. This takes the cake.
Sorry.

I believe that good endings are important for any work of fiction. The ending is what sticks in your mind after you finish and can make or break a series. Unfortunately, the ending here broke the series. You can tell that Patterson didn't have a plan for this since the book just reuses elements from previous books.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Ari's alive and evil again, even though his character had run it's course and he had a very fitting ending in book 3. Jeb's also temporarily evil again and Dr. Martinez was temporarily brainwashed again. How? It's never explained. It also conveniently wears off as soon as it wasn't necessary anymore. Everyone in Fang's gang is either killed off or shuffled out of the plot because they don't have anything to do, making their entire existence fairly pointless long term. Plotlines like Nudge wanting to cut off her wings are introduced, then summarily forgotten, serving only to pad the length. The worst part of this by far is the ending, though. A meteor hits the earth. That's it. Max's gang survives because of plot convenient evolutions and the book ends on that and Max making a speech about how no one person can save the world (even though the past 6 books constantly said the exact opposite). That sounds like the kind of ending you'd get in a fan fiction, not something written by an experienced author like Patterson.
END SPOILERS
The earlier books weren't great works of literature, but were still fun reads that I really enjoyed growing up. An ending like this is just insulting to the previous books and Patterson should have left off at book three like he originally intended. That had a solid ending that resolved most of the major plotlines satisfactorily. This is a real disappointment and always leaves a bitter taste in my mouth when I think about what used to be my favorite series when I was younger. If anyone's reading this before you finish book three, I'd advise you to quit there and pretend the next four books don't exist. That way you have a good ending and not this insult. 1.5/5

I'd like to say thank you to all the fans of the first 7 Max novels. I was just as big a fan as you. After reading a ton of your reviews I did what you all suggested... I didn't read it. This was one time I was thankful for the spoiler alerts and read anyway. There is no way I want to go in the direction James Patterson went with fang and the gang. I have my own ending in my head. Sometimes when you go ahead and read a bad ending you can never go back and erase it with your own. So thank you. But lets hope that now that a movie series is being done that this will cause him to let the script writers eventually give us a better finale.

The flock of winged bird-kid hybrids have survived so much: torture, experimentation, wars, deceit, betrayal, heartache, and plenty of near-death experiences. All they've ever wanted is to live in peace. But if the new radical group nicknamed the 99 Percenters has their way, 99% of the human population will be wiped out by a nasty virus that promises to kill in horrific ways. So once again, Max and her flock are sidetracked from their attempts at a normal life.
How can life ever be normal with Fang off in his own group and their beloved Angel dead? Fang's attempt at his own gang is beginning to backfire. Due to some inside betrayal, he comes face to face with an old nemesis named Ari. Ari is back and badder than ever, driven by a mission to kill Fang. But then, out of nowhere, Fang starts hearing The Voice, the one that Max has been hearing for so long. This convinces Fang that Max needs him. Fang barely questions the advice and begins working his way back to Max.
However, having Fang back in her life forces Max to truly examine her relationship with Dylan. Supposedly, Dylan was created to be Max's perfect other half, and at times she can almost believe it. But when Fang arrives, Max must confront her own heart and finally figure out who her true soul mate is.
Then, right in the middle of Max's heart and soul search, she and the others excitedly discover that their beloved Angel isn't really dead after all. In reality, she is locked in a horrific nightmare, back in a dog crate and suffering even more experiments. Carefully containing their hope, in case it is just an evil trap, the flock throws together a rescue plan to finally reunite the family. Will they be able to pull it off before the entire planet blows up in their face?
This is an intriguing and truly bittersweet end to an amazing journey. Max and her feathered flock are a group of characters never to be forgotten. Their adventures reached high to touch the clouds and our hearts. James Patterson fills the pages with high-velocity adventure, hilarious commentary, and plenty of save-the-planet messages. He even appears to have stretched his own wings regarding his writing style. At times, his words balance on the edge of raw emotion, even dipping into the graceful and poetic spectrum. But hardcore fight fans need not worry; bloody, brutal brawls are abundant, all to save the planet and each other from the bad guys.
Maximum Ride fans will never forget Max and her flock, who will forever live on in the literary world --- and in our hearts.

Maximum Ride fans will never forget Max and her flock, who will forever live on in the literary world --- and in our hearts.

When I read this series in the beginning of 7th grade, I fell in love with it. The personality of each of the characters, the way the books themselves were written, and the ideas behind the entire series were just enough to say, "This series was going to be great!" I loved every bit of it. (The third being my favorite beyond comparison <3)
*Sigh*...
That all changed when I read the fourth book in the series. It was awful. It was random, it was annoying, and frankly, it was just plain silly. (I mean, they're fighting global warming?... Seriously?) So, I concluded that James Patterson had run out of ideas and would get back on track with the series with next book to make up for it... That, again, did not happen. The fifth book wasn't bad; I was definitely entertained. It felt like a Maximum Ride book. ... but nothing changed!! Max and Fang got together. The End. It's not like that wasn't going to happen anyhow. (and that's not a spoiler, that's just common sense.)
SO, I guess what I'm trying to say (since I could go on forever about the series, but basically it just went downhill from there) is that if you've honestly enjoyed every book of this series until now, then you should buy three copies of this book and read it over and over again, then read it to your children. But. If you're like me, and you enjoyed this once truly amazing series when the ideas were fresh and the plot was well done but have been settling for these "spinoffs" of the series hoping that at the last stretch of things James Patterson would write the awesome ending this story deserved and would redeem the disappointment his last books had given us. (I did not like any of the new characters that came into the series. Especially Maya and Dylan. It was a good idea in a way, but he didn't know where to take it.) Then I would get it from the library. Just to see how it "ended"-if you could say that. I was not happy. It got me mad. I don't hate James Patterson because he's old and it's really hard to write a good book, let alone a good series, no matter how many times you've done it. But honestly, if you want a good read... go look somewhere else.
