Pretty Little Liars and Scream Queens move over because this little mystery is going to give you a run for your money. Penelope tries to run the Larks club as efficiently as possible but even she sees the girls she spends the most time with have transformed into the mean girls of Cape Bonita High School. When her frenemies start turning up dead, Penelope becomes concerned that more of the Larks are being targeted. This was an addictive little mystery with Penelope having no idea who she could really trust. I couldn’t put it down with every new secret that was revealed and led us closer to finding the killer. I couldn’t quite pinpoint who was after these girls until the last minute. It was so fun to just keep guessing!

This is my first book by this author and it was pretty good. I will say though I wasn’t the biggest fan of the female characters. Specially Penny. Typical snotty rich popular high school girls. Penny was epically mean to Cass at times and I just wanted to smack her. I did really enjoy Cass character. I wish we got more of him! The story overall was suspenseful. Interesting and intense. Definitely made you want to keep reading. I also liked the POV from the killer. Put an image in your head of who you think it might be. I would have loved a longer ending/epilogue. But overall I really enjoyed this book. ***I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. =)

I think Ms. Murphy did a great job getting me hooked on this YA mystery/thriller. I can’t speak too much about the story line because I don’t want to give anything away. Penelope and her friends seem to have it all- money, good looks and popularity. That is until they start showing up dead. Penelope’s click are the typical “mean girls”. Penelope has tried to distance herself from them so while I really don’t feel anything for the girls who died, I do feel for Pen. I like Pen and Cass together. I found myself wishing we got to see more of their relationship develop. I liked how the author threw in some chapters from the killers POV. PDGs was fast paced and kept me guessing right up to the very end.

A heart-pounding thrill ride from start to finish! I just loved this murder mystery! Penelope is a senior in high school and a member of The Larks, an elite group of popular overachievers who rule the school. A tragedy occurs when one of Penelope’s frenemies, Gretchen, also a Lark, is found murdered in cold blood. Penelope wonders who could commit such a horrific act, while also feeling guilty for not being more saddened by her death. Before long, other Larks are being knocked off one by one in brutal ways, and Penelope has no choice but to try to find some answers and sniff out a possible serial killer in their midst before she winds up dead herself. She teams up with Cass Vincenti, an outcast and a mysterious boy in her physics class, who has some theories about the identity of the killer and seems to know more than he’s saying. Penelope finds herself falling for the guy she never expected to trust or come into close contact with, while she questions his motives and the obvious secrets he’s hiding. Could Cass be capable of murder? Or is the killer someone closer to home? Read this superb whodunnit to find out for yourself, and trust me when I say you’ll be glad you did! I highly recommend this book to older teens and adults for its graphic and explicit content, and if you have watched and enjoyed the TV show, Scream Queens, on Fox, you will not be disappointed by this highly satisfying read! Undoubtedly one of the best YA thrillers of the year!

I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! I’m actually writing this review after getting only 3 hours of sleep because I stayed up WAY too late last night finishing Pretty Dead Girls. Seriously. Plan on reading this book cover to cover in one sitting. Monica Murphy has a special talent when it comes to creating characters and a world that will pull you in. Everything from the cute little beach town to the monstrous teenage girls and the mysterious and sexy Cass was expertly crafted and realistic. For those of you who enjoyed the TV show Pretty Little Liars, you will be engrossed in this book.

I read this book really fast. It definitely has that something to make you want to keep reading. The characters weren't very likable. I realize they probably weren't meant to be? But I didn't find Penelope to be very likable either. So I had a hard time feeling connected to the story because of that. My favorite part of the book was getting a few chapters of the killers POV. It was creepy! I think many will love this. An enjoyable read for me but never fully immersed in the story.

Being a huge fan of teen slasher movies, this was definitely a fun read. I loved the progression in this book and how it got more interesting as it moved on. You see the influences from movies like Scream , and shows like Pretty Little Liars and Scream Queens. If you like those things, you will definitely enjoy this book.
Things I didn't really love were the overabundance of modern, social media references, and how quickly the ending came and went. Although I didn't guess who the killer was, the reveal and conclusion came so quickly that it kept me wanting more. I was expecting something else to happen and it didn't. I also wish the tone of the book would have been darker. It felt a little too bubbly and melodramatic at times.
Overall, this was an addicting read and I recommend it to fans of the teen slasher genre.

Penelope is main girl she is head of the Larks and the senior pretty popular girls of Larks are dying one by one. Who is the killer? Who can Penelope trust? It’s got lots of drama and suspense and twist and turns in it. I love that the author did the book in two points of view Penelope’s and the killer! Through out the book it reminded me of the movie Scream and Urban Legend combined! Oh and I loved Cass glad the author gave us some romance too! Definitely a must read 5/5 Stars ****Reviewed by Sweet & Spicy Reads a voluntarily Advanced Reader Copy of this book ****

I haven't read much YA lately but OMG this book did not disappoint in the least!! Someone is killing the most beautiful popular girls in school and it could be anyone. The story is told in alternating perspectives from the killer and Penny the president of the group of girls being murdered. Such an awesome work of art, full of suspense and drama and just a bit of romance thrown in to keep it interesting. You'll be on the edge of your seat just like I was. The title grabbed my immediate attention so I just had to read it. I didn't read the blurb or anything else about the book, the title was all I needed. And I made the right decision. This book was amazing!! It was so full of twists and turns. I love a good mystery and this book kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing right up until the very end. This was my very first Monica Murphy book and I can say with absolutely certainty, it will not be my last.

I thought this was a great story. I enjoyed the mystery. It was suspenseful and fun at times and there was even a romance in the story. It is a great read. I will admit that it was a little predictable though. However, that being said, it held my attention. I read this in one setting as I was intrigued by the characters as much as I didn't like most of them, and the storyline. I love Monica's writing and I will read anything she writes and in any genre. She has me addicted to her stories.

A group of girls , popular girls, start getting killed and Penelope is worried she might be next.
I am telling you, I couldn't stop reading.. of course I wanted to know who was next, but most of all I wanted to know who was the killer.
Some characters were great, others were not, but each one had a purpose for the story..and what a ride!!! I was on the edge throughout...the twists and turns kept me glued to my kindle!

Get lost is this amazing, YA suspense from Monica Murphy!

In the vein of Pretty Little Liars and Scream Queens, Murphy weaves a twisted tale of murder among the pretty, popular girls of Cape Bonita Prep. This book will have you guessing right to the very end. Everyone is a suspect at one point, which only served to add suspense and tension. There's even a sweet romance that will make you swoon!

Pretty Dead Girls was beyond what I was expecting. The writing was so clean and the words kept me the tethered to my seat in anticipation.

The story reminded me quite a bit of the movie Mean Girls, but with a side of horror. I loved every page. The characters were developed and well thought out. Pretty Dead girls is a must read for all suspense lovers. The plot will keep you on your toes and questioning every detail. Amazing read. 5 Stars from Reviews by Reds!

Penelope & Cass could not be more opposite, but some how they fit together. I liked them together and the journey they go on to find the killer.

I enjoyed the suspense as the book went on.

A thrill ride from beginning to end! With a twist that you will never see coming.

This truly was similar to Scream Queens. It was an easy read. Not really gory or big on suspense. You could figure out who was going to get killed and who the killer ended up being was no surprise. Cass and Penelope's relationship was very off/on. I think I was just in a mind set it was going to be deeper than it was hence the 3 star. I received an ebook in exchange for an honest review.

I'm so glad this book lived up to my expectations! It was a YA murder mystery and it was a good murder mystery at that. I didn't know who I could trust and it made for a really suspenseful book.. This book followed The Larks, a group of girls at an upper crust school. They were pretty much the most popular girls at the school and treated other students as lower class. They were at times snotty and not very good friends to even each other and because of this, there were a lot of suspects to pick from. Was it the main character, Penelope? The mysterious boy with a past, Cass? Snotty Courtney? This book kept me guessing until the very end!

Everyone has secrets right? Good secrets. Bad secrets. Secrets that will change your life and shall never be whispered even when your alone in the dark. Everyone she knows seems to be turning up dead! How can this be? Things like this only happens in the movies but Penelope feels like she is spinning in an endless circle looking for one person to help her. Will she be able to save them in time or will she lose another friend? The clock is ticking. Absolutely spellbinding action that will have you on the edge of your seat constantly guessing who it might be.

Wow! This story keeps you on your toes, and I loved seeing the back and forth from both Penelope's eyes (most of the time) and occasionally the killer's eyes. It kind of reminded me of Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes, except that the killer's voice is limited to the points around a killing or when they are thinking about who they plan to kill next. We don't get their back story and motivation until the reveal, and for me, it worked.

If you're a fan of Riverdale, I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

'Pretty Dead Girls' is a fantastic YA thriller to kick off the new year, and is one that fans of the genre are definitely going to want to pick up. Last year, Entangled Teen really blew me away with their titles - almost all of the ones I read ended up being 5 star ratings - and it seems like they're starting off the new year with another hit. I'm a huge fan of YA thrillers and I have to admit that it's pretty hard to come up with wholly fresh ideas with so many out there. This book wasn't completely original, the structure is one I've seen many times before, but the author added some great new twists and originality to make it stand out from others like it. Some of the major aspects that stood out for me:

Characters: I really enjoyed getting to know these girls - the Larks - even though it meant going back in time to my past to the mean girls of high school. Penelope was a wonderful main character and I liked watching her change and grow throughout the story. She starts out as the "It Girl" at her school, and by the end she's much more down to earth, empathetic, less judgemental, and self-aware. I like that we get to see these changes happen to her, even though the circumstances were horrible. The secondary characters were pretty flat for me - mostly stereotypes with some realistic issues and complexities mixed in. Enough to keep you guessing at why these girls are being murdered, what secrets everyone was hiding, and the big question of who the villain was. I can't not mention the love interest - Cass - who was a great complementary character to Penelope. I really loved watching them meet and seeing their relationship bloom throughout the story. I don't normally do the whole "book boyfriend" thing, but I have to admit that Cass stole my heart and I kind of wish I could pluck him out of the story for myself. :)

Plot: Although it wasn't really anything new - popular girls being murdered, lots of secrets surrounding basically everyone, twists to keep you on your toes, and the romance aspect - I really enjoyed the book. I ended up reading it in one sitting because I wanted to figure out who was behind it all (and see what happened with Cass and Penelope). The author added some great twists and turns that gave the story originality - obviously including some red herrings that made me keep adjusting my theories. It was well written, fast paced, easy to get lost in, and an overall fun read.

Writing Style: This is a huge aspect for me, and if you've read any of my other reviews, you know that it definitely makes or breaks a book - in my opinion. The author told the story from the first person point of view - from Penelope's perspective. First person is by far my favorite writing style because of the deep connection it allows between the reader and the narrator. This book was no different, and I loved being inside Penelope's head - knowing all of her thoughts, emotions, dreams, hopes, fears, questions and theories, and everything in between. It would have been great if the author stopped with this, but she gave us some real gems thrown in. There were a few short chapters that were told from the killer's POV. I loved this so much. It let me see what they were thinking, why they were murdering these girls, and all the other information I could get. It definitely helped to figure out who the killer was, at least for me. The author putting in these chapters from the killer totally rocked my world and put the book up a lot in my opinion. It was a fantastic surprise that most authors don't do, and I think it was a perfect fit for the book.

Overall: I highly recommend this book for fans of YA thrillers, mysteries, suspense, contemporary, and even romance. Get read for a great thrill ride!

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Love this book, it was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. This book is a mix between Clueless, Mean Girls, and Scream Queens, with a dash of Pretty Little Liars. These characters are everyday types of teens, and that is what makes it do great. There is always a queen been, there is always the outcast, the jocks, the geeks, so this was an amazing mix with suspense and romance thrown in. Told in Penelope's POV.

Mean Girls, meets Scream in this thrilling teen slasher, where someone is out to remove the popular girls one by one. In this gripping, electrifying ride, Pretty Dead Girls keeps a fast-paced tempo where no one is safe from speculation or death. Spoken in two voices, one of the main character’s and that of the killers, readers are able to get right into their minds; giving insight, but not leading on who the killer really is, making this an even more riveting read.

Monica Murphy knows just how to get her reader’s attention, with her authentic characters and just enough tension to keep you guessing and questioning each character’s innocence. Murphy writes characters that are realistic, and not necessarily meant to fall in love with, but it yields to a powerful and provocative storyline. With its constant twists and turns and changing dialogue, readers are left not knowing who to trust and who is truly innocent. It’s a fast, fun, easy read that keeps you flying through the chapters and finishing in just a few sittings. Whether you love mean girls, or love to hate them, this book is a great pick for any fan of mysteries and teen slashers.

Someone is killing the mean girls of Cape Bonita Prep.
Gretchen Nelson is one of the most popular girls at school. She is also a member of the Larks, ten girls who are considered to be the 'best of the best' on campus. When Gretchen is found murdered, it sends shockwaves through the privileged community. But Gretchen was not so beloved as she appeared to be. It's not long before the police are scouring attendance records for potential suspects. Soon a second female student is found murdered, also a senior member of the Larks. Penelope Malone, president of the group, begins to fear for her life. Could she be next on the killer's list?

Penelope traverses a course through her friends, attempting to uncover their secrets and see through possible deceptions before she herself is targeted by the murderer. Along the way she teams up with the mysteriously intriguing Cass Vincenti, who may know more than he's telling her. Penelope and Cass have differing personalities, which heightens the chemistry between them.

There is a large cast of characters who are unpredictable and quite a few that are intentionally unlikable. They all seem capable of lying and I didn't know who to trust, which made for some great suspense. With all the possible suspects I had a fun time trying to guess who the killer was. Much of the story takes place on campus and there's a constant undercurrent of real danger nearby. In Pretty Dead Girls, Murphy creates a tension in the air reminiscent of a teen slasher film. It's a fast paced and entertaining YA murder mystery I thoroughly enjoyed.

Pretty Dead Girls was very different from anything I’d read in a long time. When I was a little younger (ok, a lot younger) I read murder mysteries with young people (teenagers) in them. This was a little like that and I liked it! Pretty Dead Girls is about a group of popular upper class men. There’s a special group of girls called the Larks. Penelope is their current president and the book is told mainly from her POV (we get a few chapters told from the murderers POV). The Lark girls start getting murdered one right after another. Penelope developes a friendship with an outsider named Cass. All she knows about Cass is that his mom murdered his dad and she’s in prison. So, she’s skeptical of him initially, but he eventually gets her to trust him. Together they decide to try to find out who is killing the Lark seniors. I really enjoyed this book from the beginning. I honestly was surprised at who the murderer was. I usually have a good guess on who done it’s, but not this time! I enjoyed the relationship that formed between Penelope and Cass. It was probably the only ‘real’ relationship/friendship she had outside of her family. I definitely will recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good suspense book.

Pretty Dead Girls was my very first read by Monica Murphy. And I AM HOOKED!!! PDG is a psychological thrilling complete mindf**k. Now why I'm not normally a big fan of YA, this book lived up and surpassed my expectations!!! A book that resembles a cross between Pretty Little Liars, and Mean Girls!

In this suspense mystery, a case of whodunit, Monica Murphy kept me engaged, and I literally couldn't put my kindle down. I had to see what was happening next!!

Throughout the story, you meet all these different characters, all a group of Young ladies in a group called The Larks, the mean girls on the school! When they start dying off one at a time, everyone becomes a suspect!!

The storyline was so real and believable. It was extremely we written, and the characters you will love to hate!! Plus just when you think you've figured it out.... NOPE!!! Definitely wasn't expecting that twist! Well played Ms Murphy!!

I was looking for something different to read and this book was just the thing. The cover of this book is so beautiful but the title makes you feel there is more than meets the eye. I was hooked after only reading a few pages. The plot, writing, pace I loved it all. There is a darkness that settles in and you can’t help but question who the killer is and who will die next. This book is like pretty little liars and mean girls rolled into one. There are so many twists and turns I never figured out who the killer was until they stepped forward in the end. It’s the one you never saw coming and I love that about this book. When an author can completely surprise you in the end you know she has incredible talent. I look forward to reading Monica’s next book you never know what she will throw at us.

Pretty Dead Girls by Monica Murphy is a YA Mystery/ Thriller. If you loved Mean Girls and Pretty Little Liars you will love this book. "The Lark's" are the elite girls of the Cape Bonita Prep school. Pretty, wealthy and smart. All requirements to be a Lark. The story starts with the murder of one of the Lark's, Gretchen. The murder turns this perfect little seaside town upside down.
The story is told in dual POV. Penelope is the president of the the Lark's. It follows Penelope while she is trying to find the killer and no become his next victim. It also follows the killer and you get an insight into his motives. This is a very intriguing and captivating book. I read this in one sitting. I was unable to put it down. This was a great book to kick off 2018!

Action packed who done it! I was sucked right into this one and searching, searching for clues and trying to solve the mystery.

Deceptive and thrilling, every twist will have you page turning and you’ll be thinking I know who did it but then your mind will say ‘no that’s not right’.

Catty, wicked girls are dropping dead. The elite of the elite being picked off one by one. Seriously a vapid group and the possible suspects are limitless with how mean these girls are.

Monica weaves a wicked tale of suspense and keeps you on the edge of your seat clear up to the last page. Step aside Pretty Little Liars “A” ...there’s a new psychopath on the block!

Shades of Pretty Little Liars meets Mean Girls. A whodoneit in a small town and the popular girls are turning up dead. Who did it? Who is next? Definitely a page turner with a good mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. I recommend this one for something different that what I normally read. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I loved this book! Being a huge fan of PLL and various other ‘mean girl’ dramas, I was so excited to sit down and enjoy this... the characters are believable and relatable- I could name at least 3 or 4 of my friends in these girls! The plot whips along at a great pace- quick enough to feel like it’s moving along well, but with enough detail that you get really invested in the outcome. Kept me guessing until the last few chapters- and I would love to read more about the Larks and their backstories!!
