So I just finished up One Second After and Going Home. Love EMP books. Was looking for something new. This falls very short of those series. The writing itself is much weaker and the story line is not well thought out. Invading middle eastern troops blowing us up and spraying round up on all of our crops. 30 year old gamer that has a bunker that stretches 100 yards underground in PA. List of hard to believes keep going on. The other two series made me cringe with the possible reality.

This is also a short book.

Gets you thinking
What are the chances of something like this actually happening? Who knows.
Hard to imagine that in this day and age society would let things get to this level but on the same token, yes today's society would allow things to get to this level
Should we start prepping for and event like this and be labeled as nut jobs or do nothing and if it does happen regret that we have not?
Hard to decide
Only one that can make that decision is you
Fear of the unknown is a powerful thing
Well.... I bid you farewell
I have another book to read and some " shopping " to do.
God bless

Much better written than most post apocalypse books/series. Good characters and pretty consistent. Very little changing the character of a character in mid-stream to make a story line work. Some technical detail problems. Need a whacko gun nut to proof some small details. Magazine capacity for 1911s way wrong. Tannerite totally not okay for what it's being used for. Nothing to get ones panties in a wad about but slight improvements possible.

I started this book expecting an EMP survival story and nothing more. I would have been ok with that, but I was pleasantly surprised to find much more! It started out a little slower than I expected, but very quickly picked up and I was hooked. We aren't given much back story about any of the characters, though somehow it worked. The story is told in several points of view, and is done really well. It starts out with these characters seeming to be totally unconnected to each other. I absolutely love how each thread of the story winds up mingled together by the end of the book. The author obviously has knowledge of "preppers" which shows throughout the book. It made me think a bit about what I would do in this situation. Kevin Pierce was the narrator of the audiobook, and he does a great job. I have listened to a couple audiobooks narrated by him, and I really like his voice. I enjoyed this audiobook, and I hope the next one is released soon!
**I was provided with this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. This does not change my opinion in any way.

Yes, another EMP series, but it's just different enough to really catch you at the very start! The storyline is interesting, fast moving and I was sure I wanted to read the entire series before I was 1/4 of the through Book 1. I won't give it away but will urge you to discover these authors on your own! They obviously have a great team helping them as there are few, if any, typos or the grammar errors spell check can't catch (in my humble opinion the most distracting and annoying things in most new author, self-published - books)!

She finds out the girl that stole her backpack and left her for dead, is now with this group too. The girl basically tells her get over it and the group it's like yeah, she's with us now, and there is absolutely no push back I'm so sick of what these authors call a strong woman. Everybody is about to find salvation because of HER,... Last straw for me...sigh

Believable plot. Well developed characters. Good pacing.

Good spelling, grammar, and copy editing---Yay authors who edit before publishing!

EMP plus foreign invasion scenario. Sometimes the Prepper character makes mistakes I don't think a Prepper would make, especially when she makes the same mistake twice, but I'll chalk that up to her being overly optimistic.

Liked it enough to download book two in the series.

I like the story well enough to read the next one but as far as the prepping parts of the story goes, it's lacking. For instance, any woman, or man for that matter who was even a beginning prepper would have had a better get home bag. But the characters and the story is good. Definitely a different POV from the invaders' standpoint for sure. The lengths they go to are chilling.

Loved the fact that nothing was out of reason or over heroic! Female lead was refreshing in the sense that she wasn't special forces or CIA just a mother with insight to have a little precaution and planning for any event. Her struggle to get to her family was completely believable and I didn't find myself trying to coach her through her journey in my mind. LOL!

While I enjoyed this book I did have some issues with a few characters choices.A woman who is a prepper immediately trusts everyone she comes into contact with.Despite the fact that she is repeatedly betrayed by them.I did like that the author includes characters who are willing to embrace their darker selves and one who is obviously deranged. The narration was good.I received an audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent EMP tale. Grabs you on the first page. Follow single mom Cassie and others as they try to get home and to safety after an EMP and invasion by a foreign army. Believable characters and great storyline. Now on to book 2.

It may be me but this book just sounds like a bunch of others and nothing in it compelled me to finish. Just too implausible for me to gain any head of steam. Maybe others will improve as authors gain experience.

Foul language abounds way beyond the language I hear at work and even at the community college. The author seems to not be able to write a storyline without using foul language from almost all characters. Even the god-fearing one among them has questionable morality (God not capitalized there because I don't know what god she serves). The author seems to push some weird belief systems in his story. I love a good EMP story and I've heard some other with JJ Holden as a co-author so I thought this would be good.... but it is not.

How did the heroin get full-grown nut trees in the short amount of time she had the farm?

This book was really good. And the vet welcome relief come in the fact that it was also well written and well edited! I don't think I found a single grammatical error...I am actually in shock!
The subject t matter of this book was rather formulaic, but not boring. The characters were well-developed and likeable.
I look forward to book two.
Recommended.

This was an an entertaining and a obviously well thought on story of circumstances and reactions in a emp attack before an invasion by a foreign power. The descriptions of characters and settings were realistic?

Hooked from the first few pages. I read this with Kindle Unlimited but is so amazing I have to buy the entire series. I didn't get a thing done around the house and my family nearly starved to death while I binge read this. Must read!

Survival theme ,will find these authors, to be perfect. I gave it a "4", because over time, I have read some series with 10 or more books, meaning much greater depth, detail. I will be reading book 2, as soon as I can get it downloaded. I do thank these two authors, for getting to know, cassie and the other survivors.

This story line held my attention from the first paragraph! I am thrilled to have a new EMP survival story/series to dive into- I love the characters -especially Cassie as she encounters all kind of challenging situations. Thank you so much for having a woman character with some backbone. I cannot wait to read the next book. Please keep writing!

If you like action and a surprise waiting for you, then this is the book for you!!!!

Just who is on the other side of the hill or mountain? Could it be an evading force or just some dumb Redneck who is hungry or a rapist? ... Yep, you will have to buy the book to find out.

Great read, fast paced. Even with all the preparations she has done she realizes she should have done more. The one thing I disliked about the book was the vulgar language. There is no need to take the Lord's name in vain

I thought this book had a great storyline. I was interested in the characters and felt the story was believable. As a new "prepper", I liked that the characters had to deal with scenarios that required resourceful thinking. I'm looking forward to the next book.

As always, Kevin Pierce is an excellent narrator! I always enjoy his work! He's an excellent story teller and does a great job with character voices! I love a good post apocalyptic or post disaster story. Looking forward to book 2!

If the writing of most of the post - apocalypse books makes you crazy, you will appreciate that this book is better written than most of the other books of this type. The story is great, too, adding an invasion to the EMP mix.

I liked the characters, the writing was good. The last few end of days books I have tried to read I have not been able to finish. Just not good story but this book kept my interest from beginning to end

For a new series, it was a great beginning. Some twists were harder to follow (Soiler!) like jaz making such fast changes. But, the other characters, like Cassy had depth and were fully thought out. I think you have a good writing style and I enjoyed the read.

Having read over 100 post-apocalyptic novels, this has to be in the top 5...JJ Holden is a master story teller, able to weave multiple story lines to paint the complete picture of the aftermath of an attack by multiple enemies against the u.s.. i have finished sequel #2 and can't wait for #3 to debut...this is a very enjoyable and informative read...you thank yourself for reading this series...

I loved the style of writing from several points of views. Your drawn to each character in the story to the point of holding your breathe waiting to see what happens. Can't wait to read the 2nd installment.

This story took turns into terriority that I do not like. I like natural/or man made disasters that bring about the end of the world without it being a part of an invasion plan. So, although this was a pretty good story, it was not for me and I had a lot of trouble working my way through it.

Standard, get-home-after-the-emp story, with some invasion USA techno-thriller stuff thrown in. Sort of nice to see a female protagonist for once. Characterization is bad, and the book has all morality collapsing within mere hours of an EMP event, but these are problems with the whole genre. I have hopes for the author.

Good read...but I dislike how you get finished with the "current" book...but aren't really done and don't know what happens on many accounts. I guess this is how the author plans to sell greater numbers of books...but now we wait months to find out what happens.
