This was recommended to read after I read Bill O'Reilly's Killing Jesus, which I really recommend. This gives a more insight on the scriptures plus detailed info. It is up to YOU to decide how the scriptures are portrayed. I highly recommend.

This is a good overview of the entire bible and worth reading. There is a video series as well as the audio of the book. I found I agreed with most of what the author said and if you throw out Acts 2:38 from the bible he is quite accurate in his views.

I loved this book. So insightful as a new Christian. Easy to follow, and even better when studied as a group. The cohesive plot of the Bible that this book presents makes it a keeper and a frequent. Recommend 100%.

This book takes the Bible stories you know and love and gives them true meaning by revealing the intertwining symbolism and truth in the text. Whether you have extensive Bible knowledge or none, this book is a life changer by giving dimension to what forever has been taught as "moral stories."

This book is amazing, I'm only 2/3 the way through it and I have already learned so much. Pieces are falling into place where there used to be gaps in my understanding of the Bible. I'm enjoying every minute of the book!!

I chose this book, based on recommendations, to explain the bible to people who knew little or nothing about what is , who wrote it , why, and what is its significance today. The book fulfilled all my expectations

good in English, two complaints with Chinese students in understanding it in Mandarin (simple Chinese). The three students who are semi versatile in English, could understand the English version better

"The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus" is a great basic Bible overview book; it is good for what it is.

John Cross doesn't write to give a general introduction to systematic theology, or theological issues, or even every single book in the Bible. Cross writes the book to attempt to re-create the sermon that Jesus gave in Luke 24 when he was with two men on the road to Emmaus and "beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself." (Luke 24:27)

The book unpacks the gospel message through the Old and New Testaments; it's basically a 280+ page gospel tract.

It briefly addresses the creation/evolution issue but really doesn't even attempt to address any other issue of popular or theological concern. Cross basically spends a bunch of time in the Pentateuch and then blasts through the historic, poetic and prophetic books in an effort to make it to the New Testament. Cross doesn't even mention the Pauline/Johannine epistles or the book of Revelation. If you're looking for a book that connects Jesus' various messianic prophecies to specific New Testament texts, this isn't really the book. If you're looking for a comprehensive tackling of all the typology regarding the messiah in the Old Testament, this isn't really the book. If you're looking for a general introduction to the Bible as historic literature (i.e. the standard questions of authorship, date, themes, etc.), this really isn't the book. If you're looking for a book to nail down some issues (i.e. Calvinism vs. Arminianism), this isn't really the book.

If you know someone who is a relatively new believer who is curious how the Bible all fits together into some sort of coherent whole, this is definitely the book.

This book basically addresses the question of sin and righteousness; it deals with the basics of the gospel message.

As long as you understand that this book doesn't try to be a jack-of-all-trades, or even an academic treatment of ANY of them, then you'll be very pleased by its clear presentation and unflinching focus on helping the reader understand the overarching message of the scripture; the good news about Christ's atoning work for sinners.

It's a definite recommend for any high-school believer and I'd likely make this part of the required reading for any new believers course.

Highly recommended.

I ADORE this book! I've read it at least 3 times and I love it more and more. It's outstanding when it comes to making things so clear! I remember having trouble with understanding certain things in the Bible and being able to counter and explain WHY God allows this and that; WHY there had to be a sacrifice; areas of the Gospel, etc...this is my 'go to' soup to nuts book. I lent it to a friend, whose suffering from a terminal illness and not a Believer. I pray that this will help her come into the Kingdom as she has those questions and more... =) I highly recommend this!

This is one of the best tools available today to understand the cronological story of salvation in the Bible. I have used it many times to help both new believers and seeker unbelievers to understand the simply and clear message of salvation found in God's word. Everyone with a heart for evangelism needs to have many of these to hand out to folks God puts in their path. dk
