Highly recommend this book. Had great reviews so I ordered it and was not disappointed. Couldn't put it down. Very graphic description of life in a Nazi concentration camp. Intriguing idea for a story.

great read. an extremely imaginative, completely engrossing novel combining all the best elements of history, spy novels, and personal drama. The horrors of the Holocaust are still eye opening today. This book is historical fiction at its best and an absolute page turner. You will care about each and every character and be pleased with the bittersweet conclusion. Excellent

The story is quite straight forward for a drama novel, but has its twists and turns that keeps the narrative unfolding. It has nicely intertwined facts and fiction to tell some of the background to the Manhattan project. If it had made a few more surprises or had the characters evolve a little more it would have gotten a full score
The Hidden Village :: Daffodils (The Katherine Wheel Saga Book 1) :: Legal Thrillers (Michael Gresham Legal Thrillers Book 1) :: Flight of the Sparrow: A Novel of Early America :: The Weight of Ink

Good fictional story of concentration camp living in WWII Germany. Interesting concept of breaking back into camp to rescue potential Manhattan Project scientist necessary to speed up development of nuclear bomb in winning WWII.

A truly brilliant fictional account of an all too probable event. Gripping, uplifting and heartbreaking. Reminiscent of A Soldier in the Great War, both in style and content. As worthy of film dramatization as Schindler's List.

Compelling story as if you were there! The character development made one feel as if you knew them. Couldn’t put the book down. We should never forget the horrors and atrocities of the times, especially in light of what is happening in the world today.

The premise of this novel - sneaking an American Army communications translator into Auschwitz to rescue a scientist is quite compelling. The plot is suspenseful and had me hooked from beginning to end.

Smarmy soap opera dialogue from the time he finds his long-lost sister until the end of the adventure was annoying. In fact the sister's inclusion in the story is superfluous and detracts from the narrative. Long conversations within hearing and even within sight of potential witnesses was more fool-hardy than the situation allowed.

References to Talmud teachings played a large role in explaining the hero's motive and provide the reader thought provoking lessons.

If you enjoy a good thriller and if you can ignore unnecessary overwrought dialogue you will probably like this book.

Superlatives are often loosely thrown around when it comes to appraising a novel. In the case of THE ONE MAN by Andrew Gross, all the superlatives that occur to me are more than well deserved.

Haunting. Suspenseful. Gripping. Soulful. Thoughtful. So thoughtful. A must read. I really didn’t want to put it down. Even when I finished it.
Both a historical and a thriller novel, THE ONE MAN is about hell on earth, perhaps only a fictional one, but so closely tied to the real one on which it’s predicated. It’s about consummate good contrasted with consummate evil. In the end, it about family. And what really counts. Both in and beyond the novel. Both yesterday and today.

In reading THE ONE MAN, there are no less than three male characters who could be considered . . . the “one” man. Take your pick, for your own reasons. There are also two female characters themselves equally extraordinary.

And then there’s Andrew Gross. For recognizing what’s important and choosing to tell this story, and as well as he has, he might just be . . . THE ONE MAN.

It was well written as expected by the author. The storyline made it difficult for me to read continually. Although interested in outcome I felt need to put it down. Reading about the atrocities in WWII don't make for the most pleasant read

tense emotionally packed story of convictions and heroism told by one story's protagonists 60 years after the fact. based on historical facts as documented by author. One of best novels I have read in a long time. Highly recommended

I chose this book due to its historic fiction category, but I couldn't get it from my mind due to it being a thriller. Whether you enjoy historical fiction or thrillers, this book will hold your attention from the first through last pages.

Riveting. As one who loves to read WWII historical fiction, Gross kept me engaged with this one. Each page left me wondering, waiting, and aching at the horrors of this story that are based on real REAL life.

I have always had an interest in the holocaust years, the atrocities bestowed on these people are horrific and hard to believe anyone could do this to other human beings. This book is incredible. If you do read it be sure to read everything after the novel has ended. WOW is all I can say. God does work in mysterious ways and he did bless all these brave men and women who tried and eventually did end this terrible time in our history.
