If you looking for a clean Christian book don't read this. I don't understand how books like this are put into a Christian category but as I read reviews of so called Christian books I am very grateful to the reviewers that warn about sex and bad language.

Wow! This was a great story! I got so caught up in it like I was right there living in this village.
The story takes place in 1813. Amelia's mother has died, so she is the "mother" of the house while her father takes care of his business earning a living. Amelia takes care of the house, and the raising of her younger siblings.
Amelia doesn't realize that her father has been funding the other side in the war and has been found out by the wealthy family in town and is now being bribed to marry her to their son in an arranged marriage. She is not aware of any of this, other than the fact that she hates Thomas and will do anything to get out of marrying him.
She and her best friend, Emma, meet a new stranger in town and Amelia is drawn to him. She continually finds herself around him, and over the course of a few weeks, finds that they have fallen in love with each other, but still, her father won't let her out of this arranged marriage.
I don't want to give spoilers, but Amelia ends up missing.....
The story takes a few turns throughout, and I felt like I was constantly on the edge of my seat.

I got this book for free, which I am doubly thankful for after reading it. More accurately, trying to read it. This book is very poorly written, with a LOT of grammatical mistakes and poor sentence structure. I teach middle school, and the writing in this book reminds me of the writing of my students. It was so bad I quit after two chapters, then picked it up again a week later because it was the only book loaded on my Kindle that I had not finished reading. I can't finish it. I just can't, it is so bad. I don't even care what happens to the characters because the poor writing is so distracting. I have no idea how this book ever got published. Then again, I know nothing about the process of getting a book published, so maybe I have no idea what I am talking about. I do know poor writing when I see it, though.

This book was absolutely great. "Amelia's" happiness with the man she loved was effected and forced on by her father being blackmailed by a crime of treason. There were so many twists and turns and unexpected happenings that you never knew what the next page would bring. I could not put it down!! The epilogue was the biggest surprise!!!!! TOTALLY UNEXPECTED!!! (don't cheat and look ahead). All this in an American historical setting! CP Murphy did her homework including all this!!!
CP Murphy is a new and upcoming author and I see a great future. I am now going to order her other book and I look forward to the next one. She's become one of my favorite authors!!!

I finished the book because I got hooked on the story line, but the many grammatical errors, and poor sentence structure were hard to ignore. Also (spoiler alert) why was everyone ok that Jacob came forward almost 2 years after the murder with what he witnessed. Am I the only one who thought he was an awful coward?

The grammar and spelling were so bad I couldn't read it, so I am not sure about sex and violence. "Passed" for "past", etc. Did no one proof read this? Too bad; I was really looking forward to this story.

Thoughtful character construction, A good window into the era but connectable to the reader with a twist that was unexpected but totally understandable in view of the characters involved. So worth reading! I really enjoyed it!
