I got this as a gift for my sister, who is soon to be a elementary school teacher, and it came in PERFECT condition. Crisp, brand new, book that all of the kids will surely love. Shipping was a little slow but no big deal, I would recommend this book to anyone with young kids or soon to be teachers!

Initially we found this book at our library and was such a great read that we ended up purchasing a copy! Its a bit of a tongue twister but always brings a giggle! It's one of our favorite books to read at night!

My son loves this book at bedtime. He will often request it, and it is so fun watching him think about the drawings and how they relate to the prose. He is learning some of the words and will say them with me as I read. Great book!

I have mixed feelings about this book. I've really loved other books by Shel Silverstein, and this one has the signature poetry and illustrations, but it also has a LOT of repetition. Reading this to my daughter just wasn't as fun because of all the repetition.

This is a great book, lots of fun to read to and with your kids. My kids are now teenagers and were so excited when I mentioned getting it for their cousins new baby! They talk about how much fun we used to have with it. I hope it brings baby Lia the smiles it has my children!!!!

This is just another exceptional book authored by Shel Silverstein, whose work I have long admired. His writing style has a sing-song (folksy) rhythm and provides endless fun hours for young brain stimulation, intrigue, and entertainment. His illustrations are fabulous. It is impossible to keep big and little sticky fingers off the pages. A great investment. Delightful.

I was such a big fan of Silverstein when I was a kid. Now my girlfriend's daughter gets to hear me read his works to her. This book in particular is so cute. I think I might like it more than she does but she just turned 2 so time will tell how much she likes it.

The one book I hadn't read by Shel Silverstein and it's wonderful! I bought his 3 most popular books for my daughter's 7th birthday thinking they would be her favorite but "A Giraffe and A Half" stole the show. I've now read her this book, been read this book, and studied every illustration in this book dozens of times. Most importantly my daughter and I have fallen in love with this book! You really can't go wrong with Shel Silverstein though, no matter what age of birthday you're celebrating.

My kids can't get enough of Shel Silverstein. We have almost all of his books. This one is not one of my favorites only from my perspective as "the reader" - kind of reminds me of Dr. Suess "Fox in Sox" book or Green Eggs and Ham. Great books but not when you have to read then over and over it gets really irritating because of all of the redundancy of verbiage. Children however will probably have no complaints.

I read it to my own kids when they were small, read it until they and I had it memorized. I then took it to school where I read it to my eighth--yes, eighth-graders who laughed and got sing-songy and guessed the next line and who chanted along as soon as they figured out the pattern. We next wrote our own versions and read them to the elementary kids. Good stuff for all ages. One of my favorite books!

"A giraffe and a Half" By Shel Silverstein is an amazing book, especially for kids. I loved when my mom read it to me as a child or when I read it becuase it was always fun to see what came next. Sometimes I would even guess what was comming next. Both the pictures and the sayings made me laugh or smile. I would have to say it was one of my favorite books as a kid.

My daughter received this book for her 4th birthday. That made us total Shel Silverstein addict. I bought every book by Silverstein for the following few years. Now my daughter is driving a car, but I still continue reading and buying his books for my nephews and nieces

Giraffe and a Half is my favorite childrens book. Not only is a lot of fun to read, but its fun to listen to the kids try to remember everything that comes next. It is delightful and funny, and its good for kids' concentration and memory!

This book is engaging, witty, and enraptures both children and adults with it's rhyming verses and illustrations. I have read it several times and kids love the silliness of the content and I don't mind reading it, as I find it amusing myself!

My daughter brought "Where the Side Walk Ends" home from the library when she was in grade school and we loved it! From then on we were hooked on Shel Silverstein. We bought all of his books and "A Giraffe and a Half" was my favorite to read to them. Now I have 3 year old grandson and I get to revisit all of my favorite titles again. "A Giraffe and a Half" is a must have and in my top 5 children books of all time.

I bought it for my sister, a preschool teacher, for Christmas and read it to my husband while he was cooking breakfast one Saturday morning. He (age 75) laughed and then began to supply the rhyming words to complete each page. I immediately went to the computer and ordered 4 for our great-grands and our great nieces. Also then ordered another for our PHD daughter who has all his collections.

Shel Silverstein is always delightful. While this one is not quite in the same class a "Where the Sidewalk Ends" and "A Light in the Attic", it seems to delight younger children with its rhymes and nonsense. They always laugh at the breathlessness of the reader as the tale progresses. Definitely a keeper.

You can not beat a Shel Silverstein book. Always full of excitement and at the same time his stories stimulate a childs (and adult's) imagination. Never a dull moment and I think every family should have his books in their home.

As always Shel Silverstein's books amuse and keep my daughter's attention. I enjoyed them as a child and now my child enjoys them. A giraffe and a half is wonderfully silly and keeps you smiling page after page.

Giraffe and a half is great for kids that love repetition. Your child could learn to memorize better with this book. I really love this book and I would recommend getting other Shel Silverstein books because I have the whole collection.

I am a preschool teacher for four year olds. There is nothing better than having a group of children completely engaged in a book, laughing over it and finishing my sentences. This book was asked for again and again and is a class favorite. It is a great introduction to rhyme and poetry. I think we all have it almost memorized!

Too much Shel is NOT a good thing! I felt my IQ level drop as I read this book, I wasn’t amused by his style and I’m sorry I didn’t read up on him more before I purchased several of his books. BE SURE you do your research because how he expresses himself is simply a matter of opinion, you just might not like it!

Love me some Shel Silverstein. It's a bit long for a 1 1/2 year old to sit through (and very repetitive) but I bought a little stuffed giraffe with the book and it works. The story is funny and it makes Mommy and Daddy laugh, so if anything, it makes for a fun read.

Love it! This book is so sweet. Our family all loves giraffes, so when I saw this book I knew I had to get it, even though I really knew nothing other than what the cover showed. Now that I've read it, I can't wait to read it to my 6 year old. The word play is so fun!
