Truly enjoyed this book as it was action packed and a fast read. Combination of characters from her other series' and included backgrounds on the characters to explain what brought each one to this point in time. Looking forward to more in this series.

I am a SK super fan for lack of a better term and while I enjoyed it more than her recent books,it still was so so in my opinion.
She has started to do what she did in "Time Untime" and "Redemption" where she starts bringing in new concepts, which in theory should be a good thing, the only problem is she tries to stuff too much into one book.
Especially one so small.
She created this whole new conflict (with nods to the DH and CON conflicts) to make a whole new series based around Thorn's men, while trying to shove new possible series titles in there (DON'T THINK I MISSED YOU "RIDERS OF THE APOCALYPSE" reference >.>)
The story between Bane and Mara was just idk....honestly it was boring.
I was more interested in what was happening with Kalder and Cam than the main couple.
Now I just hope for a book about Cam and Kalder (which will be the next book i'm sure) or a book about Simon and Kat (they remind me of Ture and Maris >.<) other than that,no new characters really stood out.
YOU CAN DO BETTER SHERRY! Though I guess I'll buy regardless.
All in all I give it a MEH/outta 10

I really enjoyed this book in the new series. I did not read the dust jacket before delving into the book, so I had initially thought it would be about Cameron Jack and Devyl Bane. Having Cameron as an opening character was misleading in that regard. I loved the pirate theme of this and the unusual crew. Sherrilyn excels at building interesting individuals to spin other stories from. I admit some of Devyl's racial background got confusing here and there toward the end of the book--thus 4 rather than 5 stars. I recommend this one for the atmospheric flavor alone.

I wasn't sure if she could outdo the Dark Hunter Series. Well not actually outdone, but actually matched and brought a new world to life. Which weaves into the Dark Hunter's with a life all its own.
Join the new ride it is worth it!!
With the crew of Deadman on a living ship with Marcelina of an ancient race of people who are part of the trees that surround us and led by an ancient Captain Devyl Bane who's been resurrected from hell to help himself and his crew of Deadman to fight evil in this world and redeem themselves. TOTALLY AWESOME!!! Sherrilyn you've done it again!!

I love Kenyon's Dark Hunter series so was excited to see this new book, but I just couldn't get hooked. There's way too much backstory dumped on us for each minor character, but mostly the hero and heroine - the ones we want to see fall in love - spend almost no time together. Kenyon is so busy building her world I think she forgot what we like about her stories: the romance. I just couldn't keep up with all the characters and backstory of decipher what the current story was supposed to be about.

I, like many people, didn't hide my disappointment in the author's last book, Dragonmark. You can be a superfan of an author, which I am, and still disagree with some of their decisions. Blind loyalty and an inability to criticize or express your opinions is a dangerous thing, it stifles free thought and the intelligent exchange of ideas. It stifles growth.
So, I am ecstatic to report that Deadmen Walking was a redemption in the best way. Soooo good, and I'm not just saying that because of the Malachai tidbits (total bonus points though ;) )
I was reminded as I haven't been in a while why I was drawn into SK's fabulous world to begin with, and this from someone who rarely reads anything romance anymore. This was much more than a typical pararomance, it was world-building and character development in a way SK excels at.
Excellent read, well written, draws you in and makes you care about not only the main characters but the ancillary characters as well. Excited for the next book.

I finished reading "Deadman walking: A Deadman's Cross Novel. It was a magnificent book, it was very hard to put down when I started. I also got the audiobook to listen to while I read, and I am so glad I did, because they where a lot of words I couldn't pronunce.
I give this the highest rating that can be given, 5 +, I highly recommend this book. And I highly recommend the audiobook. I am looking forward to the second book.

I was so looking forward to this book and struggled thru the whole thing. I am huge fan of Ms. Kenyon, read every book and i felt like i was reading Pirates of the Caribbean. I hope she goes back to the style of the first few Dh novels that came out. Those are what got me hooked on Paranormal and urban fantasy books. I also enjoyed all the books of the Macallisters please do another. This was expensive for a kindle and it aggravates me to pay that price and i could barely get thru the book.I expected more of the story to be about Cam and her brother , there was very little about them in the book. I removed this from my kindle i never do that with Ms. Kenyon's books I just reread Kyrian and Acherons books again lol.
What can i say extremely disappointe

actually was a little leary with this book, pirates, over done, maybe? but with her usual skill and intertwining character and story lines, this book sucked me in and tugged at my heart and fired my anger. Devyl Bane, Thorn, and their crew of miscreant sailors, not unusual for pirates to be miscreants, but these resurrected members of the living ship's crew are fighting for more than just the next ship to scuttle and rob. Innocents souls are at stake, one particular soul is the lovely Cameron. A race to close the gates to Hell, to stop the release of the darkest evils, and while they are pushing themselves in a battle against the clock they are learning about themselves, and each other.. Plus some familiar Kenyon characters make appearances/ are mentioned in this story...A MARVELOUS READ, TOTALLY ADDICTED AND CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT COMES NEXT!

Even though the Goodreads synopsis focuses on Bane, I loved hearing about Marcelina's story. She always hated Bane, but she can never leave him because they are irreversibly bound. Throughout the novel, she learns more of the truth about his backstory, and she learns more about his sister Elf. I also really enjoyed reading about her own backstory. I won't spoil too much, but it definitely held a lot of secrets and plot twists!
Also, at the start of the novel, it seemed like the main story would be about a girl named Cameron who is masquerading as a boy to find her lost brother, Palen. When the book changed focus to Bane and Mara, I was quite confused at first and thought that it was just a very long flashback. However, this cleared up quickly, and it did not distract me very much from the rest of the story.
The world-building of this novel was incredible. I felt as if I was personally on a boat and fighting off demons, learning about the cursed passengers. I loved the amount of description that the story had about each character and each scene. It truly draws the readers in, and I fell asleep a few nights because I had read this book until my eyes couldn't stay open any longer. This was definitely one of the most fleshed-out fantasy books that I had ever read, with some of the best world-building and character development.
I had never read a single book by Mrs. Kenyon before, but after this, I definitely plan to do so. This was a multiple POV fantasy novel that actually wasn't confusing or long-winded, but just generally enjoyable!
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a new adult fantasy read.
I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.

Deadmen Walking was an ambitious start to series that for me, fell short of its shiny goal. The romance was flat and the story was all over the place. Don't get me wrong, I liked the characters, but the story itself didn't have a very cohesive feel; instead it was like watching a game of hopscotch-jump here, jump there-but there's no ending in sight! And I realize it's the first book in a new series, but the magnitude of character introductions, locations, and legends was overwhelming to take in.
At any rate, I'm obviously disappointed with the book. We shall see what happens when the next one is released. If I do read it, hopefully I won't be left feeling so discombobulated!

Gotta love those pirates. Great new world - 1700's. Great new characters and a Hot & Sexy Captain.
Okay, this is part of our Dark-Hunter universe - Hell Chasers and Hell Hunters - we really haven't gotten much of them in our Dark-Hunter-verse, so it's a nice change of pace.
Now, interestingly enough, we get little tidbits of information about Thorn and his past and family, and the Malachai and what was going on in that century with him and the prophesy. So if you read the CON this is a little treat. There is also mention of Acheron and Simi and a Dark Huntress.
I enjoyed the story and the pirate speak. The characters were easy to fall in love with. Can't wait to read the next books in the series to get more in depth with them. When you start reading you feel you automatically know who the love couple will be. I love that Kenyon, didn't make it obvious in the beginning, so it takes you by surprise when you are wrong and realize who the love couple ARE!
You get to know the crew, there are so many of them but only a handful do you really get to understand and get a little history on. So I guess we'll learn more of the others in the next books.
I couldn't give a 5 star because I didn't really feel the romance or sex appeal in the intimacy with this couple. The intimacy was just too quick with no foreplay at all. Where you would think foreplay would have been necessary in this instance, I felt that the sex part was just so rushed, it just wasn't believable. I really wasn't feeling it.
Kenyon could have drawn us in more if she took the time on this intimate part. I feel there were more details in other places in the story that weren't necessary, than there was in the only part of the romance we were getting that was necessary and we didn't get any. NO chills, no lead up, no sexual chemistry. So that was a huge let down for me.
Otherwise, good story, great characters, many LOL moments. Lot's of action, attitude, and anticipation. Can't wait for the next in the series. Can't wait to learn more about these characters and see what other information we'll get to implement into what we already know of our Dark-Hunter-verse and those characters (Thorn, Malachi, Noir, etc.)

This is my first audio book in which I had not read the actual book first. I've been a fan of the Darkhunter books since the start and this one has characters from those and / or references some of those beloved characters. I think the narrator did a great job with this. Maybe the voices were a little off, but he did a good job portraying women vs. men, and moving the story along in a way that kept it interesting. He also did a very good job with switching up accents in my opinion. Of course, a native frenchman, englishman, etc. may not agree, but to my ear, it worked well enough to highlight the differences in the characters.
As is typical with SK books, there are A LOT of characters, and keeping them all straight is always challenging. I've learned to kind of filter out the lesser characters and focus on the main ones in order to really follow along. I can tell you that I will finish out the series and may just stick to the audio version as I liked the way it unfolded as an audio.
Similar to the DH books, the Deadmen have some unique quality that makes them fitting to be selected for the task being assigned to them. Tasks that no everyday human could possibly handle. They are "lost" souls or individuals who would appear irredeemable to their fellow man based on some of the atrocities they've committed, but have the ability to reclaim their souls and life if they fulfill what is required of them.
What I had a problem with in this book is the romance. It felt like it came out of left field. The players, the issues, how things progressed built up at a pace that I enjoyed. As usual, keeping track of who was most powerful wasn't easy, and I have to admit, still a little confusing, but by the end, I really did find that I enjoyed this book as much as the DH series.

Deadmen Walking is the first book in the Deadmen's Cross triology, a historical spin off from Dark-Hunter and the hell-hounds universe and Oh my this was such a great read and a fantastic start to the trilogy!
Captain Devyl Bane used to be an evil warlord and is currently the dead Captain of the ship, sailing of to save the gates that will unleash hell on earth if the gates open. The gates are keeping the evil and ancient gods bend on destruction and chaos. He and his crew made a pact with Thorn to protect the seas and keep the gates from opening. On their mission they end up picking up a human who seems to have strange medallion and wants to find her brother. His ship, the sea witch happens to be the one woman who hates his existence probably about the same as his ex-wife, Marcelina. Bound together as they are in life, Mara and Devyl have a very complicated relationship spanning years and death.
It's such a surreal concept of having a ship that actually also a woman, a very powerful woman at that but it's done in a such a fantastic way that it makes sense. I really liked Mara and Devyl together, Devyl is a anti-hero and bit suicidal with his thoughts of getting back at his ex-wife but his behaviour and the love he felt only endeared him more to me (and to Mara). It's a classic tale of enemies to lovers apart from the fact they on quest to save humanity and are dead themselves :P . Their relationship is pretty well developed and I really that we get to see how they met and how over the years the relationship had changed.
Most of the book is of course focused on Devyl and Mara's story but it also included multiple POV's from secondary characters which made the story all the more interesting and of course gave perspective to different things in the book and moved the plot forward. I really liked Cameron, the human who gets aboard the Sea-Witch with all it undead crew members to search for her brother and Kalder (a very interesting guy) who will be getting his book next (CAN'T WAIT). All the crew members seem so interesting and the more we get to know about the more I wish they all get their happily ever afters.
I just loved the new paranormal creatures, lore and the new characters that were introduced. Honestly, Sherrilyn Kenyon is the best at creating new worlds and bringing them to life in such exciting ways and this book is no exception. I loved getting to know about who Devyl and Mara's people were and how their history was connected and it related to viking lore.
It's full on ride from start to finish! A pirate romance, filled with epic adventures, fantastical creatures and an epic romance. What's not to love?!

Disclosure: I received a review copy from the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
4 1/2 Stars.
This is kind of embarrassing to say, but I have never read a book by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Ever. Anyone who reads within the Paranormal/Fantasy Genre has read one of her series, or at least a novel of hers. I’ve heard great things about her Dark-Hunter and Chronicles of Nick Series but never gotten around to reading them. So when I heard about Kenyon’s latest series, Deadmen’s Cross featuring demons and pirates, I all but jumped on the chance to read it. And I am so glad I did. It was packed with endless action, witty dialogue, unique mythology and great world-building and characters.
After reading a couple of reviews, it seem that Deadmen’s Cross is a series within Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter Universe, with a couple of characters mentioned and showing up. Deadmen Walking is set in the 1700s and follows Devyl Bane and his crew of the dead. Kenyon heavily incorporates Norse Mythology and probably others that I’ve never heard about which made for a very interesting read. There was definitely a lot of characters, each with their own history and background. I loved learning about everyone, especially Bane’s crew. Being dead for a reason, the crew gave the impression that they were the kind of evil, even hell didn’t want. But as readers come to learn of their haunted past; it turned out to be more melancholic and heartbreaking then I could imagine. The world that Kenyon created is meticulous and multifaceted but she wrote it in a way that I never felt lost or confused. Which is very important and has happened in new series more often then I’d like to admit.
Deadmen Walking is a Paranormal Romance, something I wasn’t aware of upon starting it. If anyone has read my reviews or follows the blog know that I rarely read them. I usually like my stories focused on one pair of leads throughout a series versus a new lead in subsequent books. However, as I said I really liked the cast and am more than likely going to pick up the next book even if it doesn’t feature Devyl and Mara. Overall, I thought Deadmen Walking was an excellent series opener. Kenyon’s old fans will be delighted to see a new series in the Dark-Hunter Universe while new fans will devour this and will be jumping on another series as we wait for the next Deadmen’s Cross novel which hits stores in 2018; featuring Merman Kalder and the Seraphina Cameron. I loved Deadmen Walking and highly recommend it! It certainly deserve the hype it was getting!

What an absolutely FANTASTIC book!!! Sherrilyn Kenyon has done it again; she has taken me on one hell of a ride into a different realm where anything is possible. I have been so anxious for this book ever since she announced it and after reading it, I'm absolutely sunk and so stoked for the next book!!
Devyl and Mara are the main characters in this book, but I also loved that we got some other character's POV in this book; it made me fall more in love with the characters. Devyl has lived a hard and sorrowful life. My heart clenched whenever we saw glimpses of his past; I just wanted to jump into the book and give him a hug. Devyl was strong, sexy, powerful, loyal & when he loved someone, he loved them deep, but he also didn't think he was worthy of love. He stood by his crew and when Cameron came to him, yes he was a little bit leery at first, but he took her in and protected her. Devyl had to learn to embrace love when it was presented to him and let go of the past.
I didn't really care for Mara at first, just because of how she saw Devyl, but at the same time, as the book went on, I really enjoyed her character. She and Devyl were bound in a way that was unbreakable. Mara was powerful & a bit naive. She saw Devyl one way, and it wasn't a good way, but the more she starts to learn about his past and the past where they are intertwined, really opens Mara's eyes and heart to who Devyl really is. I loved how Mara was the ship and she protected Devyl and the crew. Mara's character growth was very noticeable in this book and I loved watching the transformation. She needed to just let go of the past and learn to trust Devyl and open her heart to him.
I loved Cameron, Paden, Kalder, Thorn, William, Bart, Sallie, Sancha, Belle, Simon, Kat, Janice and just seriously all of the Deadmen crew. I loved meeting a Dark Huntress and learning more about demons and meeting new creatures. Sherrilyn Kenyon is the queen of paranormal and I am seriously excited for the next book in the Deadmen's Cross series!!
Well, what can I say?!? Just this... Wow! This is the first of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books that I have read. And... I just loved it! Filled with dramatic and vivid imagery, Deadmen Walking took me on an adventure across the seas! I am not familiar with her previous books, but this new series has some crossover ties with her other series...from what has been mentioned. Well, I guess, I will have to read those books, too. Well, not because I have to, but because I really got wrapped up in this one!
Sherrilyn Kenyon's writing flows and projects another world to her readers. Her words are engrossing and passionate, especially in describing her characters and their personalities. Not only that, her world building is astounding and realistic! Whoa! The flow of the story took me away onto their journey with them! Seriously! It was very difficult to put the book down! How did I not pick up her books sooner! <sigh>
She took various fantasy lore, mythology, and history, and wrapped it around a subtle romance that took my breath away! With a little action, adventure, and drama, I got to "sail away" with these characters. Her words are so alive with excitement that it was not difficult to drag me in to Devyl and Mara's story. Yes! This is their tumultuous romance...haha! How could I not get wrapped up in their emotional and dangerous journey!
Anyways, as with any first book in a series, Deadmen Walking gives readers an introduction to the characters and world they must protect. There is a lot of mystery that revolves around these characters, and as the story progresses, character histories and secrets are told... And a whole other world is shared among the world of the human realm.
Deadmen Walking is an adventurous, dark historical fantasy that is filled with engaging characters and a wondrous fantasy world that will take your breath away!

Way, way too much time spent on description. I wouldn't even go so far as calling it world building, just straight up description. Each of of the characters introduced gets a page of two describing what they're wearing, hair color, eye color, mood, skin color and so on. Which is fine for the main characters, but seriously, every single of what feels like two dozen characters got pages devoted to their descriptions. By the third or fourth I wasn't even retaining names anymore, much less descriptions. I was just desperately trying to find anything resembling story in the mess.
Also, those names were just soooo bad.
At 17% I just couldn't stand to put up with this book for a single page more.

Deadmen Walking, by Sherrilyn Kenyon, takes us through the 1700s Caribbean life, where the Pirates reigned the seven seas, and all manner of creatures (alive and dead) roam about plundering for spoils. The book opens up with a war torn and doomed pirate ship heading to the wreckage of Davy Jones’s locker. The battered crew escapes the wreckage, and the captain -as good ones do- goes down with his ill-fated ship.
Next, you meet a young woman seeking the help of the notorious pirate Devyl Bane, under the guise of a young man, to find her missing (presumed dead) brother. When Bane sees a trinket that is linked to the blood of the archangel Michael, he quickly sets about escorting Cameron Jack to his ship to render aid to her cause. At this juncture, you may be thinking that the main story is centered around young Cameron Jack, her quest to be reunited with her captured brother, and the pirate Devyl, however, in doing so, your ship has been sorely steered asunder by the crafty Kenyon.
Devlyn Bane and his cursed crew of Deadmen (Hellchasers) are a varied group of mermen, hell bound creatures and demons all brought back from their deaths by the enigmatic son of Lucifer, Thorn. Thorn and Bane have their own bloody and twisted history together, yet Thorn has assembled the crew from the depths of hell despite the “bad blood” between them. Thorn has agreed to give them each a chance to redeem their own souls by becoming crew members. The crew had all lead lives that were beyond redemption, but they all had something good as well they had done before their death. That one act of kindness, or compassion, earned them the right to prove they were worthy of redemption. If the crew of the ship can redeem their souls, they will have another chance at life. But to get their chance, they must keep the gates that protect the human world from the ancient monsters.
You learn that the vilest demon attempting escape is Vine, a particularly nasty creature, that Bane sold his soul to the devil to trap her in her hellish prison. Vine also happens to be Bane’s ex-wife. She is hell bent to see that Devyl gets his due.
Traversing the seas with his sister-in-law Marcelina (who is also the Sea Witch, the ship that they sail upon), Bane and the Deadmen fight to return the wayward demons to hell as well as keep Vine in her own dark prison. Centuries of being trapped in a hole in the world, Vine is not one to stay there quietly. Little does Bane know, Cameron Jack (with her bloodline coming from the archangel Michael) is exactly what Vine needs to crack open the gates and reign hell on earth. There is much tension between Bane and Marcelina, but then again their history is also bloody and dark.
The storyline was captivating, spellbinding, and fascinating. The characters heart wrenching, gut-punching, and maddening. The tone overall racked with humor, beauty, and with a fun spirit. Deadmen Walking is so elaborate, you are really sucked in and left wanting to know what will happen next.
FULL DISCLOSURE!!! This may not be for everyone. There is a lot of character play from many other of Kenyon’s novels and her different worlds that causes some bulking and what could be considered information overload. I kept in mind that this was the first novel in her new series, and some ground laying and history was needed. If you love a steamy love scene, a brawling bunch of pirates, angels and demons and people trying to escape from hell (wait, this sounds like a movie!), then this novel is for you! Overall, I rated this novel a 4 out of 5 stars, as once again, in my opinion, Kenyon has knocked it out of the universe.

Pirates, Sea Monsters, Mermen, Sprites and many more.
Overwhelming and confusing at times, many new types of beings, powers, worlds and add a new history and you have a lot to digest. This first book in Ms. Kenyon spin off series is all about the world building and it is a complicated world as I've found her others to be. I would have loved an illustrated guide to keep the visual and background of these characters in order. The new characters were amazing, the merman/mermaid my favorite of all I love her design on the mythical beast. Really an illustrated guide would have been awesome.
Thorn from her Dark Hunter series is featured in this new series, he is the lead of these Deadmen. Deadmen, pirates who sail the seas sending demon/wicked/evil back to where they should be. The Deadmen are all second chance wrongdoers looking for some form of redemption from their fate. This book focuses on one couple, the Captain and his lady. Their past combines and lashes at them until blood is drawn and death is always waiting. Yeh that's all I'm giving you.
The book ended with a cliffhanger and my favorite character was the one hanging off the cliff but one slim finger. Now I'll be waiting forever to grab book 2 and see how they faired.

Loved this book. It sucked me in right away and I became a fan overnight. This book is great, the characters are awesome and funny. Very entertaining. I loved the plot and the seamless storyline. I was not familiar with her other books, which made this story great to read. Unfortunately, i did read a dark hunter novel. It was okay, but the repetitive world and plot lines that are created lost my interest quickly. I wish these books stood on their own, without so much tie in outside of their series, and without so many repetitive plots and similar "whoa is me" characters. Everyone likes strong characters, a lot of them are kicks in other novels. But not his novel, and not the main character. I liked how awesome he was, and how funny the other characters and dialogue was.

Loved it! DEADMEN WALKING is the first book in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s new historical fantasy romance series, the Deadman’s Cross Series, and it is part of the Dark-Hunter World. The Deadmen are brought back by Thorn to protect humanity from demons and they’re given a second chance to earn redemption. Bane leads the crew of Deadmen. This series is different from the Dark-Hunter series. I thought it was more fantasy than romance. There is a romance between Bane and Marcelina but I didn’t think it was the focus of the book. I really enjoyed it and I recommend it for Dark-Hunter fans even if you don’t normally enjoy the Fantasy genre. The Deadman’s Cross Series is an exciting new fantasy world and it was action packed. I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for the next book. I’m already in love with Deadmen!

I have read SO many Sherrilyn Kenyon books and I have loved them ALL...up until this one. There were so many characters with back stories thrown together that the whole thing was hard to follow and it felt rushed. I lost track of all the realms being referred to. The cross-over references to other series didn't help. The fight scenes interrupted with loving gaze moments between potential love interests made me wonder what the being they were fighting was doing to pass the time for them to get back to it. Sherilyn Kenyon is an amazing writer. This was not up to the standards she has set for a good story and good characters.

I'm fluctuating between 3 and 4 stars.
This is really not a separate series from the Dark Hunter world.
It is good world building, if you are familiar with the Dark Hunter mythology. She is throwing in a lot of other stuff now, Celts, Norse, voudun, etc. It can be confusing. I just rolled with it, I read a lot,
This is set in the 1700's, and pulls in many familiar pirate names and elements. The first of the book introduces the characters and backgrounds. The last half gets into the romance and redemption pieces. Honestly, the romance was a tiny piece of it, and mainly there to be a part of the redemption, I think. Kalder, now, I am looking forward to learning more about him, and some of the others.
I am really at a loss as to why she has started this spin-off since there is so much that needs to be wrapped up in the main series. But, I am not the author, so I give her the benefit of the doubt.

Deadmen Walking is the first book in the Deadman's Cross series. This series is an offshoot of the Dark Hunter series and will contain familiar characters from that series. This can be read as a standalone with a HEA but there is a cliffhanger ending so you know the story will continue. As with all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books, they are intertwined and it really helps if you have read the Dark Hunter books to get the entire story. There is violence and sex scenes so 18+.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. This story is primarily about Devyl and Mara. This is a pirate story with supernatural pirates. Nothing and no one is as it seems.
Will I continue to read future books in the series? Of course I will.

Deadman’s Cross book 1 has pirates, demons and other fantasy creatures. It is a well written tale with smooth interaction of the characters, there is some good old insulting banter and it is a fast paced adventure at sea. There are cross-over characters from the Dark-Hunter series which I liked and hopefully there will be more.
This story has a bit of everything, treachery, vengeance, lost love, and forgiveness. The characters are all well described and likeable. The different places are also very descriptive. Sometimes it felt a bit of overload and i had to go back sometimes to get a better feel of the characters, but as this is the first book in this series it has given me a good idea of what is to come.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I would definitely recommend it.

It could be that Im just not into pirates but this one was a dud for me. I know this is a new series but there was a huge amount of info dumping, and I felt lost most of the time. I still don't know what the main guy was other than that he was some kind of druid maybe? The main girl was some kind of species that didn't make any sense either. The romance aspect made me roll my eyes. You expect me to believe that you're in love with this woman for hundreds of years and you never tell her. And the idiot that she is never notices? Oh and once you tell her she decides to love you too. Come on! This book was scattered and its not like this author to be so all over the place.

I appreciated the more romantic and less graphic physical romance in this novel. There is violence and dead pirates but no zombies (not a zombie fan). I almost stopped reading after the first third of the book because I couldn't find the hook that interested me. It was the second two thirds that finally hooked. Some great ideas and concepts but I am on the fence on how some of the characters were portrayed. I borrowed this novel through the Sacramento Public library and the Kindle borrowing program. I do buy some novels, even after I have read the library copy. I believe I will wait for the next installment before I think about purchasing this one. A bit too much icky stuff to read again soon.

I was absolutely enthralled by this book. I loved Devyl Bane, bane of the devil himself, as the captain of an undead crew on The Sea Witch, which is a living and breathing ship controlled by Marcelina. Her life is bonded to her sister Vine's husband-Don Dueli. If she dies, so does the captain. The crew is made up of the worst of the worst miscreants. I have always loved Thorn and he plays a huge character in this book. There are new characters- Captain Paden Jack and his sister Cameron Jack as well as old favorite characters- The pirate Santiago. I even cried in one part. Beautifully written and some vivid battle scenes between Demon and Deadmen.

Another awesome book by Sherrilyn Kenyon, this time with pirates! Loved every second. I loved the backstory, the characters were so diverse, and the plot entertaining and engaging. Devyl and Mara were awesome protagonists and I hope they make appearances in the Dark-Hunter series so we can see how they fare in modern times. Love to see characters show up in other books. There wasn't anything I didn't like about this historic adventure set on the high seas with pirates who fight to protect the world from demons. The concept is inventive and fun. Devyl and Mara have been through so much together and I am glad they finally worked through their past so that they could have a future, loved them so much and am ready for more!

So enjoyed this book. I liked that it was about earlier times. The fight sequences where great. I really enjoyed the different characters. The interaction between them was great.
What I didn't liked was the cliff hanger. Of course any series starting out will do that fot me. It's good to know that this was an excellent start. But to just know that maybe the next book will close up some of the gaps will make it well worth the wait.? I ? this ?.

Let me say first. I absolutely love Sherrilyn. I have never given any of her books a low review. Unfortunately with this one, I just could not stay interested. It took me days to read this book, when normally I can read in one sitting. It was confusing and slow. It didn't hold the same appeal to me as her other books which is just shocking to me but I am only one person. I will continue to read her books. Just, maybe not, this storyline.

I really enjoyed this book. I will say that for me it starts out slow but Sherrilyn Kenyon does a lot of world building and character introduction in the beginning of the story and I wasn't very patient with that. If you read the DH series there are a couple characters she brings over from that world but for the most part this story takes place in a different time and different place, using more Norse Mythology than Greek. Once I slowed myself down I could not put this book down and can't wait for the next one to come out in 2018.

Well, WOW!!!! She is back! Her last couple of books have left me a little disappointed. I liked them, but they just weren't her usual. This was a great surprise. I love this author and her Dark Hunter series. So, this is a great new series that I am sure, after reading the first one, I will love the rest. Can't wait!

Just as i was pulling away from this series, this book has pulled me back. Cant wait to read Kalder and Cameron's story. It was this type of writing and story line that made me one of Sherrilyn's minions!

Outstanding start to the new series. Swashbucklers with a little something extra! I loved this book and immediately went to pre-order the next one. I have always loved bad guys wanting to redeem themselves and do good. Add pirates and romance and you got me! Can't wait for the next installment!

I really liked this story. Even though it made me think of Pirates of the Caribbean. It is an interesting tale. I wasn't sure about the narrator, seems he lost accents at several points, but he pulled it off. This one does not have all the sex Ms. Kenyon generally include in her stories, but again it is a difference type of tale. Over all I enjoyed it greatly.

This is the first book I've read by Sherrilyn Kenyon and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. Intriguing characters, good versus evil, and pirates. What's not to love about that? It makes me want to go back and read the Dark Hunter Series is was spun-off from.

I love the characters in the book, they were all relatable. I like that you learn more about Thorn, the Hell Gates, the Malachi prophecy, etc. Sherilyn Kenyon has a way of creating different world's, realms, realities, series etc...that can stand alone while also proving insights into her other series. I love her work and cannot wait for her latest in The Dark Hunter's Series, The Chronicles of Nick, or The Deadman's Cross Series.

Part of a larger series in the epic, the only draw back is that many of the characters have so many names that it is difficult to follow who they are at any given moment. There is a bit that is predictable about the character arc of development, but overall a quick read.

It was okay. But we shouldn’t go “two people hate each other for thousands of years but fall in love in 100 pages” also, why start the story with one girl &Have it all about someone else ? 200 pages in &I’ve only seen the main character 2/12 chapters ?

I always give Sherrilyn Kenyon's books a five star rating, the writing itself and story does deserve it, but I am just so confused about so much for some reason with this book. Maybe I need to read through all of the dark hunter books again or something. I just feel like I got lost somewhere or it got too complicated with the different worlds... The characters were phenomenal as always and I followed the love story parts just fine, and I've always bee intrigued by her use of the shifters and dark hunters and time travel and different dimensions. But I couldn't keep up with parts of this one for some reason.... Still a great read though.

Captain Paden Jack supposedly went down with his ship off the coast of Florida in 1715. It is now 1716 and his sister, Cameron, has sailed to Jamaica with a special sword hilt that belongs to her brother that he somehow mailed to her after his death. She seeks out the one man who can help her: Captian Devln Bane. Seeing that the piece belonged to a Seraphim's sword causes Bane to have Cameron escorted onto his ship the Sea Witch for her protection.
The crew is made up of damned souls who have been given a second chance by Thorn, the Devil's son, who rebelled against his father and fights for the side of the angels who treat him like crap because when they see him they see his father. Every one of them carries the deadman's mark which ties them to Thorn. Thorn can take them back to Hell at any time. Otherwise, they can't die, though if their bodies are obliterated they will wind up in Hell again, or if someone else comes along with the power to send them back to Hell or if a creature comes looking for a host to live in they might lose their bodies and find themselves in Hell. The idea is that they will do enough good that they will erase the deadman's mark and earn a real human life and a second chance.
Among those on board are Mr. Death, the proper quartermaster, Kalder, a merman, Belle Morte, the doctor, Sancha, the drunk surly woman at the wheel, Simon, a shapeshifter, and Roach, the wily Frenchman. Also, there is the ship herself, Mara who is a Deruvian or one of the tree folk. She can take human form as well as her tree or wooden form. The Captain is a sorcerer supreme among other things who will do anything for his ship or his crew whose main mission has been to fight demons who have been escaping from the several gates of Hell trying to hold them in. The gates are straining to open and Vine, Mara's sister, and Devln's ex-wife, who killed him is trying to break through one of the gates and come through and take over the world. She now has Paden and is torturing him to get the missing piece from his sword and to try to turn him. But when Cameron accidentally uses the hilt and saves the crew she alerts Vine to her presence and Vine sends others to get her.
Devln and Mara fight like cats and dogs. Their lives are bound to each other since they met over a thousand years ago and she cast a binding spell on him hoping to take him down with her, but instead, he spared both their lives. If one of them dies or is injured the other one feels it or dies. The way the two of them fight you honestly don't believe that they will ever want to get together. But in this swashbucklingly good tale, anything is possible. Kenyon does throw in some things from her other books but you won't feel too lost as she explains what you need to know about the characters she uses. I really loved this book. The characters were ones you could believe in and fall in love with and the plot kept the pages turning well into the night. I can't wait for the next one as this one ended on a sad note and I'm in a hurry to see that situation change as soon as possible.
Quotes
He always said that education is an ornament in prosperity and a refuge during adversity. And that a learned mind is the only wealth worth hoarding, as it is the sole treasure that can never be stolen.
-Sherrilyn Kenyon (Deadmen Walking p 184)
We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark, but the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. When we refuse to see the truth that lies before us because facing it is too hard and scary for us. Because when we acknowledge that light, then we see monsters the dark no longer hides and we are honor bound to do something to stop them. It’s easy to lock your heart with hatred. But only when it’s free will you be able to move forward without anchoring you to a past that’s holding you back.
