I started reading this book and thought, "What????" I had just finished reading Born of Defiance where it told the story of Talyn Batur. Which I absolutely loved, another fantastic book in the series, and I was trying to work out in my head how Talyn figured in with Fain..........boy when I found out it was like, " Wow, didn't see that one coming."

The trials and action and heartache that is brought in to Fain's story actually had tears in my eyes during certain areas in the book and no I am not going to say which ones cause that would spoil the fun of reading it.

All I can say if you haven't started reading the Born of serial, START!!!!! These are all well written books that draw you into a world that has you cheering for the good guys, and the bad guys that turn good surprise you.

I cannot wait hardly until the next one comes out!!!!!

The last three books (Dancer, Talyn, and Fain) are as original as vanilla pudding. I LOVED the League books until now. All three of those males are interchangeable. Where was Fain's classic bad attitude and acidic sarcasm? Why is the "conflict" between the love interests (and this started with Sumi) getting tied up so quickly and so easily dealt with? Darlin, Caillean, Syn, and Nyk actually had to work for their relationships. They had to argue, brood, learn to compromise. Now it's so blase "Oh you tried to blast our son out of the sky? You nearly killed him? It's okay super magical sugar muffin, I forgive you!" And can we please just let a bad guy be a bad guy? Jullien didnt need to be redeemed, and I have a feeling Kyr is going to be redeemed too. Where is the tension? The drama? The risk? The raw grittiness of the worlds? In the beginning I could actually picture planets like Rook. Now it's all opulent houses. Also, I love Andarions. I think their culture is interesting, but enough already! Dagger is apparently an Andarion too? There's other races, like I dunno...Trisani maybe? What happened to you Kenyon?

I love all things Sherrilyn Kenyon... having said that, I must admit the ending of this book left me hanging. I know the next book will pick up where this one leaves off regarding Jullien, but I did not care for the incomplete aspect of this book. I feel Sherrilyn could have given more insight into the details of the fight and brought him back and if she wanted to leave us hanging she could have had the character reflect on the events and leave us with how he felt hopeless as he was captured and tortured... Those are just my thoughts... Overall, I enjoy her as an author so I gave it 3 stars.
Cheers!

It seems as if the author doesn't care anymore to come up woth stories that stand out. It's a shame because she has created some really outstanding plots in the past. This book was way too long without good reason. It didn't make you care about the characters and it didn't enhance the charasters' universe. It lacked inspiration.

Another great addition to the series. After reading Born of Defiance I waited all year for this one. What had been done to Talyn throughout his life because of his lack of caste was sooooooo messed up (and that coming after Dancer's story too!) The fact of Faine, one of my favorite snarky characters, being the direct/indirect cause of all the heartache Talyn had experienced throughout his life by abandoning Talyn's mother for Omira was this HUGE obstacle. Throughout the entire series it had been repeated over and over again that Faine was outcast for running away with a human because he loved her and then she broke his heart - but looking back through the series, it just didn't add up. I really couldn't wait to see how Ms. Kenyon was going to resolve the problem and repair the relationship between Fain, Galene, and their son Talyn. This book did not disappoint! She did a great job with it and managed to add in a new, sympathetic dimension to an old, hated character as well.

I love Ms. Kenyon's writing. I've been reading her books since the first of the Dark Hunters and she rarely disappoints. With some of her stories you have to have a strong stomach as Ms. Kenyon uses her writing to exorcise her personal demons of childhood abuse, but she does it not from a point of woe-is-me victimization but of the strength and resilience of the survivors. I love how involved she gets with her characters and their lives, how she makes them feel real by carrying their stories on into the next one; how all of the characters interact and effect one another's lives. Her series are fluid, not static. That being said, if you're not an established fan of the series and come into the middle or at the end with the latest book, you will be totally lost. Read the series from the beginning. You will laugh and you will cry but you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend it.

Felt like there was to many things going on at once none of it actually focused on fain and galene which was kinda irritating. Add in the nonstop people coming into the story all the time and the random curveball of jullien the one guy everyone hates being good is kinda irritating its like styxx and acheron just doesn't fit. Idk I will probably buy and read the next one but if its how betrayal, fury, and defiance was I don't think I will continue on with the series which is a shame because it use to be my favorite.

I loved this book so much! Fain and Galene's story was decades in the making and when they reconnect it's explosive. Their story is full of action, danger, emotion, heartache and romance. Sherrilyn Kenyon writes in a way that describes every detail. The reader experiences the world of The League Series and you take the journey with her characters. I’ve received some comments from other Dark-Hunter fans about their reluctance to try the League series because of the space setting so I wanted to let everyone know that if you love Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter Series you will love The League Series too. It’s not really about the setting for me. It’s about Kenyon’s writing style, her characters and their stories. They’re just epic and I love them all! If you're new to the series I would recommend you start at the beginning to fully enjoy it. Each book has a HEA ending for different couples, but the series needs to be read in order to fully appreciate the characters and series storyline. I can't wait for the next book!

SPOILERS!

Alright, so there are going to be some serious SPOILERS in this one. Starting now.

So, I hated the way this started. It picks up 9 years after Tayln's book. The beginning has Galene discussing Talyn's life and how it was all Fain's fault. However, how could Talyn's entire life be Fain's fault? I mean, c'mon he didn't even know about Talyn. Yes, he made a mistake but lets get over it and move passed it.

Plus, I was really upset how Galene and Talyn were speaking in the beginning. It was super annoying. I mean, they weren't even mentioning Felecia at all and I was starting to think something was wrong. Finally, when they did bring her up it was like Galene didn't even like her and how dare her outcast son be with a companion. Well, that's not the feeling we got from the last book.

I found it a bit irritating the way they were discussing things. I didn't much care for it. So, Kenyon does put a lot of characters in these. It's really difficult keeping them all straight. I keep learning new people and characters. There are a few introduced characters I cannot wait to learn more about.

How many times can you scare me and make me think I've lost someone. It was becoming repetitive and not surprising anymore. You can only do that to me so many times. I mean, my heart can only break so much.

This left off with a big cliffhanger. I didn't realize I had caught up to the end of the series until June. I have to wait for forever now. At least that's what it feels like. My very favorite in the series was Born of Fire and I've been trying to get that feeling back ever since.

Although, this is Fain's story it felt like it was everyone else's as well. I love how Talyn and Fain finally connect. I'm glad something good happened for Fain. I didn't quite understand the whole you're my slave, no a rogue, business. Fain's owner did seem a bit bi-polar.

I think I have to comment on the narrator and although, I enjoy him reading the book to me, I keep going back to Kenyons website and notice that it looks like she pronounces Galene's name differently than the narrator. On her site it looks like Gay-lay-nuh and the narrator calls her Gah-lean. Which, sounds an awful lot like Talyn, so I had to listen carefully, to who was speaking as to not confuse them. Every time I heard her name I'd correct it in my head.

All in all it was full of action, love, hate, and a rather long list of characters. I do love them each dearly but maybe some of them should be left out of some scenes.

And my oh my, isn't Trajen something! More, please!

There will be spoilers for anyone who hasn't read the book. I was not impressed with this book. There was just to many things that didn't make sense and things added to the story line that will require her to write more books about the past rather than moving forward. We are told that Fain left Galene to protect his brothers. I might could buy that except according to him he went stralen before he left. Given what has been said about stralen males it makes it hard to believe. Not to mention getting married to another woman so soon after. There were a ton of characters to try to keep straight which was annoying. The revelations did nothing but irritate me. Ryn is married and we will be getting a book from the past to explain how this happened. Jullien is suppose to be a good guy now. We're suppose to forgive that punk because he wasn't really bad he just wanted his parent's attention. Sorry but that's just dumb. I could keep going but it would take to long. I gave this book a 2 because the war against League has heated up and it was the only part of the book I liked.

Born in Betrayal by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Paranormal Romance -Nov. 3rd, 2015
4 stars

Fain Haul turned his back on his family, his future and Galene, the woman he loved in a bid to save his brother. But the personal cost has been greater than he knew. When he finds himself forced to work with the woman he never forgot -he is tormented. She hates him and has found a younger replacement. Tortured by her nearness, he is shocked to learn she has been hiding secrets from him. Can he work his way into her good graces or forever loose the woman he thought lost to him?

Galene has worked hard to climb to her position as the right hand to Queen Cairistiona. When her fiancee left her she was pregnant and alone -her family disinherited her and she was completely disgraced. Raising a son with out money and the harmful affects of her beloved son's (Talyn) lack of legitimate heritage cut deep. Talyn's lack of lineage made his life a living hell. She doesn't mind the struggles she has made so much as the pain and social stigma to her outcast son. Without true lineage, he has no hope of a real marriage or climbing to the highest stations in their race. All because her old fiancee, Fain became infatuated with a human female and left her! Now that she has attained power and her son might have a chance at happiness, Fain comes back into her life. She wants him destroyed. It is only because she loves her ruler so much that she is willing to bear being in his company. But hate is very close to love and Galene discovers to her horror that the feeling she thought dead maybe be resurfacing... But can she risk him betraying her again?

After reading Born in Defiance - Talyn's story about how tortured he was growing up without a father, I felt it difficult to warm up to Fain. While this story is technically Fain's, I felt I was learning more about Galene. I always wondered about Talyn's mother and I loved learning how strong and protective she is. She has had to struggle and finally having a career where she has power and respect seemed well deserved. It wasn't until the second half of the book do we really get to know more about Fain and his reasons for abandoning Galene. Because I cared so much for Talyn I almost didn't want Galene to make up with Fain! But Fain is patient and doesn't push Galene and after a while I felt sorry for him. Galene and Talyn have so much love it seemed wrong to exclude him. Most of Sherrilyn's heroes are tortured by birth or circumstances. But Fain is one of the few that are responsible for their own downfall. So he isn't quite the underdog that you root for in the beginning. I'm not sure if Sherrilyn Kenyon was able to make him completely sympathetic or his reasons for abandoning Galene that logical but in the end this story wasn't really about Fain for this reader. This was more about Talyn and his mother. And I enjoyed reading more about their dynamics and how they were able to make a life from ashes and becoming strong. For me, the romance was secondary to the sense of family in the story.

Galene is a heroine you will absolutely love. And reading more about the sexy Talyn is extra icing on the cake!

What can I say about this book…WOW! Then that doesn’t even describe Sherrilyn Kenyon newest installment in her League:Nemesis Rising series. Born of Betrayal had your emotions going big time. When I read Tayln’s story Born of Defiance I knew I must pick up a copy of Born of Betrayal to see the backstory of Fain and Galene. Their story was unhappy on so many levels. Fain and Galene were to be married when, Fain had to play the playboy to save Gaylene life, it was either to pretend to have an affair or watch Galene suffer with him, while unaware that he was soon to be a father.

Now decades later, Fain is back stronger and ready to claim what was his long time ago. Maybe Fain should have asked first. Because Commander Galene Batur doesn’t seemed so ready to forgive or forget that the man that she loved went and had an affair and later married a human Omiria.

As a single parent myself, I found Galene struggle to raise her son alone knowing that her life will be difficult amidst all the biases in her culture very admirable.

When Commander Galene was offered the promotion of leading a fleet of men to battle the League whose sorn duty is play dictator to the galaxy, she gladly accepted the task. However, no one told her that a flame from the past the one man to truly break her heart would be part of the promotion which was a task all of its own.

I don’t normal give out spoilers but….yep she blasted him, right through the heart. But fortunately he was wearing his good armor.

Born of Betrayal was an excellent blend of action romance, and scenes that will have you reaching for the tissue box. So be worn that Sherrilyn Kenyon Born of Betrayal will have you cheering for the underdog and leaving you panting for more.

Born of Betrayal is the 9th instalment in the League series by the talented Sherrilyn Kenyon. I have been a long time fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon's work and she was also one of the very first authors I read in this genre that has taken me to so many wild and imaginative places and I feel I owe her so much for that.

Ms Kenyon has wrote many series and although I have loved each of them the League series has always been by far my very favourite, there was just something about this series that I could never wait to devour each book that came out. Born of Betrayal was such a busy book with so many story lines going on that I would have to say that this book is one you need to read the previous books before tackling.

This book is supposed to centre on Fain and his lost love Gaylene and her son, Talyn. The story follows on from previous books that explained Talyn's life. If you were a long term fan it was easy to see who Talyn's father was going to be and I loved the storyline these three shared. It was believable in every aspect of how they felt when they were reunited and each step from that moment on.

There were also many other story lines in this book that all interconnected and we were able to discover different sides to certain characters. We had to chance to hear about many of our old favourites from previous books and catch up to what has been happening so in ways it was like a family reunion without the boring bits as they were very much part of the centre of the story. Towards the end of the book we get a glimpse of our next story leads too; not a very big but just that small couple of sentences that show exactly who will be involved.

The ending wasnt as drawn out as I have grown to expect, but I guess that just gives us more to wait for on the next book. Grab this book today, but in my opinion read the rest in the series first. This book has all the action and sexiness of all the league books but is definetly not a stand alone book.

At a time where I am feeling very disconnected from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, I am happy to report that I enjoyed this latest League book. I did have some issues, but I liked both main characters and their second chance at love story, especially with their grown son a major player in the story.

This is finally Fain's book, and Kenyon primed us well with Talyn's story in the last installment. We've seen the fallout from Fain's decision to leave Galene all those years ago. Her social standing was ruined and their son lived a life beneath even the lowest castes of society, since he had no paternal lineage. Fain went off and married a human woman, despite his betrothal to Galene and, well, everyone ended up suffering for it.

Kenyon loves taking scenarios that seem to be one thing, then showing us that they were really something else. Like with Darling. Or Styxx. Now we see the real circumstances that took Fain away from Galene. It wasn't that he loved his human, but rather, he was forced to leave Galene to save lives. And when he finds out about Talyn --and the fallout from his absence-- it rocks him to the core.

Fain and Galene are thrown together again on a mission where they must work together and they have a lot to work through. Neither ever really knew what the other endured, but the love that was between them has never died. They have to overcome years of heartbreak and hard knocks to make their way back to each other. Throw Talyn in the mix and a constant threat to the lives of Fain's loved ones --and things don't slow down for a moment.

I really believed in the emotional connection between Fain and Galene. I also felt the deep hurt he inflicted --as well as the equally deep remorse he felt as a result. Talyn's loyalty to his mother and anger over his father's choice to leave gave a great additional layer to the dynamic. I liked that we finally got what felt like a missing part of the story in the last book.

Old favorites like Nyk, Jayne and the Sentella play a big role in the second half, which I loved. But here is where it also started to get hairy. There are so many characters, I found myself starting to get lost... which is what has driven me away from the Dark Hunter books (though not to that extreme just yet.) There are just too many names to keep straight --not the past core couples, but all of their family members and friends, plus connections we never even knew about. It's even dicier when you think about what you know from the second generation flash forwards from Born of Ice and "Fire and Ice." Kenyon's website has a great character guide, but I don't want to have to consult reference material every time a read one of her books.

My other complaint is really the familiar misery each hero seems to have. He was mistreated and abused. His heroine is the only woman who has ever made him feel worthwhile. Plus now, Kenyon's new bonus theme of "the untold story you never knew the truth about." She does all of this well, but the themes and tones are just becoming too familiar.

All that said, there is a reason Kenyon has found success with this formula. Despite the familiarity... despite the overwhelming number of characters... I liked the book. I was happy with the ending. And I was intrigued by where she is going for the next book. Even though it's a hero whose story we thought we knew but were totally wrong about. And who was never loved and everyone hates him but the woman he loves. But I'll deal with that when I get to Born of Legend.

Another amazing addition to The League series. I don't typically read fantasy, but I just can't resist a Sherrilyn Kenyon book. I stumbled upon book one in the Dark-Hunters series a few years ago at a used-book sale and the rest is history. I devoured that series and was unsure if I would enjoy The League series as much, but guess what, I do! In this story, we finally get to learn more about the mysterious pilot, Fain Hauk. Almost all of the characters we have come to love make some sort of cameo in this story and it was absolutely captivating to the final page. At the heart of these stories, is a message of loyalty and love. No matter your biological family or life circumstances, your character and your heart will be your true salvation...and the bonds that you forge with friends can become better than any hereditary family could be. Her characters all overcome so much to be the person they are today. They are strong, smart, fierce, loyal, loving and would die for each other. However, let's not overlook the humor that is weaved throughout the tense moments. These books are great entertainment and I cannot wait to read the next one.

Another great League novel. This one will have you laughing out loud so much. I could not stop laughing with all the sarcasm, the exchanges between these guys and many other parts. I love the characters. Glad that you get more of Talyn and Fain is someone you will fall in love with also. Many of the old characters make an appearance as well. If you haven't read the books prior to this one, then you will be overwhelmed with all the characters and trying to get them all straight. However, if you have read them all then you will be happy to have all the characters show up.
Exciting story and will keep you wanting more. By the end you will have a whole new perspective to think about. Can't wait for the next one!

SHORT VERSION - At first Born of Betrayal, the 8th of a series, works as a stand-alone, but eventually it doesn't. I have not read any of the rest of the series.

LONG VERSION
Sherrilyn Kenyon is the writer guest of honor for ConCarolina 2017 so I thought I would read one of her books. I was unable to finish Born of Betrayal.

The beginning was interesting - the hate between the hero and heroine is the stuff of legends. Getting back together because of the war does not make their feud lessen, but they put their differences on simmer while taking care of the interlopers.

Then about mid-way through the book, the motives start changing and the backstory morphs some from extreme hate. Next the hero & heroine, who never were really likable or sympathetic to me crossed the line to "don't care". Their final change from hate to romance wasn't believable, but then they are alien so they don't *quite* react like humans from the motives of hate and love. I just couldn't identify with the emotional change for the romance portion of the story. But the war portion still held me until, finally, so many other of the previous series storylines started popping up I just couldn't keep track of what I should know (This is the 8th of the League Nemesis Rising series and I hadn't read any of them before). Gave up at page 430 of 500.

~~~~~~SPOILERS~~~~~~~~~~~~
I loved this book!! It was awesome to see Fain and Talyn get over the past and embrace each other. Don't get me wrong Talyn will gut his father if he hurts his mother again, but at the end they were getting along! Thanks to Fain, Talyn was able to marry the love of his life!
Now for those of you that are looking at the next book. Read the description, then go to Sherrilyn Kenyon's website and look at the character profiles. Dagger is an alias.... Can you figure out who he is??? Oh, you are all going to freak when you figure it out! And Nyk, I can't wait until he makes the connection!
If you read the last book Born of Defiance, you'll see some familiar faces like Talyn & Galene, as well as others from previous books. This latest edition tells the story of Fain Hauk. I was excited for this one especially because of his connection with Tayln & Galene. I knew it was gonna be a good one and it was. Kenyon as always hits it out of the park. It amazes me how these books never get old. Sometimes that can happen with a long series, but every book holds something more exciting then the next.
Fred Berman is again narrating and it's wonderful how he embodies the characters.
This one was meh for me. I usually like this series, but I felt like maybe it has been too long since I've kept track of everyone. There were a lot of people to keep track of. A lot of background info on different people. I was confused often, not really knowing who was who and if they were significant. It also didn't leave me wanting to know anyone else's story, which is unusual for a Kenyon book for me.
What just happened? What happened to this book? Here is an honest real review of this book: Around page 97 this book WENT OFF THE RAILS! Let's start with page 32. When Galene and Talyn found out that the Queen (Cairistiona) had adopted Fain, (that meant Talyn was no longer a lack-Vest...without paternal lineage), the conversation he and his mother have about Felicia is a strange one. I thought his mother loved Felicia, but reading pp 32-33, one would think she didn't. Felicia was just a paid companion, but her son could do better now that he had a paternal lineage. HUH? Next....once they're all on the station where Fain basically lives (why, really?) a battle alert sounds and Galene falls apart, becomes hysterical, crying, sobbing and begging Fain to ground their son and not let him go into battle...correct me if I'm wrong but isn't she the Prime commander for the Andarion armada and don't her son take orders from her? Uhhhhhhhhhh, wait, isn't Galene Andarion and aren't they supposed to be fierce people with red/white eyes and Fangs for goodness sakes! Yes I know she's his mother but come on Ms Kenyon, you killed Galene's character at that point. Fain mentioned that Galene was bossy and liked to issue orders but obviously she couldn't get anyone to follow her orders. Why was she over the Andarion armada? This story basically ended on page 118. He tells her why he left she wants him back but she's wary, they agree to date, blah, blah, blah....the last 383 pages was some crazy mumbo jumbo mess. This story tried to have a little mystery, but not.....All the characters from the other books were in the story but why? they added nothing to the plot. the strangest surprise in the whole book was Jullien's wife and family. Now we are supposed to feel bad about him and his poor life so we will all read his story in the near future. NO! I don't think we, the readers, who love these characters, should have to read another Acheron and Styxx story. I loved Talyn's character, his sense of humor...Fain was this dangerous warrior who fought back against his capturer/owner Venik, but yet it seems odd that he couldn't fight back against Merrell and Chrisen who threatened the life of his brother Dancer if he didn't dump Galene when they were younger. Yet Talyn defeats both of them...Mmmmmm. I vote for a Talyn and Felecia spinoff series. They both were pretty consistent character wise to who they were in their book. What a mensid mess......
In spite of the dark world of the League, this is part of a series of light shining into lives once untouched by love and hope. Love is what binds the different characters into families. Things are not always how they look at first glance, or even second. The story line is even better if the series is read in sequence but this is not necessary. It makes it easier to I.D the secondary characters who have already had their own stories presented. Betrayal was my introduction to Ms. Kenyon's world of hope blooming from hatred. I have read them all in sequence. Each book follows a theme with clues provided in the title. Betrayal is chock full of betrayals, and how these are dealt with, from justice to forgiveness. Do you like love stories with strong principals? The League provides over the top alphas, who must overcome brutal dysfunctional childhoods to become loving protective husbands and fathers. Ms. Kenyon's matches her heroes with strong women who are their equals or even superiors who love their mates while leading them home to a place of peace and light. Read and Enjoy!
Born of Betrayal has landed near the top my list of favorites of the League series. I have often wondered what happened to Fain, and it was very touching and heartbreaking to finally see Fains story.
I laughed, I was frustrated, I was angry for a minute at Sherrilyn Kenyon (if you've read it, you know why!!!), but I got over that quick when things were revealed, and I was caught up in the life of Fain and all that was happening in his present circumstances. I couldn't put this book down!!!
First I have to start off saying I read the first 3 books in this series years ago when they were originally released and then haven't kept up with the series. I'm more into Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter world. With that said, I was able to pick this one and get completely drawn in. Yes there are a lot people to keep track up, a new world to follow and other story-lines outside the romance between Fain and Galene to follow. Fans of this series are going to be thrilled with this one, I'm not a "true" fan as I don't follow this series and yet I sat up all NIGHT long until 4am to finish this one in one setting. I couldn't put it down! The story just pulled me in and I had to know what was going to happen. Now I find I have to go back and read the ones I've missed and go back and reread the original three as they've be updated and revised from their original formats. Fans of SF will love BORN OF BETRAYAL. But if like me, you aren't a true SF fan but do love romance I think you'll still enjoy BORN OF BETRAYAL. I see alot of Kenyon's writing style carrying over. No matter what she writes you can't help but be pulled in and eager for more. I loved the characters, I loved their interactions with each other, the plot, the hard facts they had to fact and come to terms with, the on going battle...............all of it. Honestly it was like reading something I could see as part of a Star Trek show but still felt realistic to an extent. It's hard to explain, there were tons of characters that could have made me feel lost and unsure of what was going on but somehow Kenyon kept me focused on the main two, Fain and Galene, even with everything else that pulled at my attention and all the other characters that made you smile and laugh or want to know more you still were able to follow the romance. That is a sign of a true master, when I know there are tons of other stories going on and instead of getting lost I feel like I'm part of the story. I'm there watching from the sidelines, I'm the fly on the wall as they say, I'm just another character watching at it all unfolds and I learn with the characters what's going to happen next, I learn secrets I didn't expect. Coming into this one blind in a way as a reader who hasn't followed this series, I still felt like it worked. Yes I think those who follow the series will likely get side jokes or understand a bit more about the struggle Fain and Galene face, I still think I was fine. So if you are new to the series or Sherrilyn Kenyon and look for a different sort of romance then pick this one up. If you follow this series I'm sure this one will end up as a keeper. It's a keeper for me and now I have to find the previous stories and read them!
I have always been a fan from her earlier days. Fain and Galene's story was highly awaited. Everything was in order. The characters were explained and the story entertaining until Chapter 19. I thought there was going to be this big battle. Instead, the epilogue. What happened to Jullien? Did everything turn out ok? How does a book just end? I feel cheated. I've been a faithful fan but will think before reading another book from Mrs. Kenyon. Disappointed!
I LOVE sherrilyn Kenyons books and this is no exception. You always now when u pick up a Sherrilyn book that you will get a great read, and its always full of suprises and twist. If u ever have problem with names or its to many ppl. Go in to sherrilynkenyon.com, there is a bio for every person in her books and u learn more, get bak stories and lots of treats. Like most of her books its a love story, but its always diffrent and unique. If I could I would read a new book from her every day. 14 dollar may seem much but if u lived in Sweden it would cost around 20 atleast. Its well worth it. I can agree that the ending feelt a bit abrupt, but sense its a serie you get glimpses of then in other books as well.
The book is set in the future, or diffrent universe all togheter. Space, time, planets are all new and exciting. One person should not have this much imagenation, its impressive. The main caractars for this book is Fain Hawk and Galene Batur. They where childhood sweethearts before they got thorn apart, and not on the friendliest turns.
So if u want a great read, (I finished it in a day, but I am extreame, it is around 600 pages) buy this book. You will not regret it!
Okay. Going by the sword on the cover of the book, I thought this was going to be a Fantasy novel. However, this is really just a Romance Novel with a thin Syfy veneer. As a Romance novel, I think her writing is pretty good, but not what I was looking for. Although I won't read any other books in this series, I may try reading a book from one of her other series.
I love Sherrilyn's books . each series is different . This is about a League of men fighting for their rights, The hero has managed to survive without a father's lineage name on a planet that judges you by who your parents were . Raised a fighter he has to learn to love. I highly recommend it if you like romance and fantasy.
I made myself read the first book in this series, because it was written by Ms Kenyon. But, I thought, no way will I like it. Outer space and all that "Star Wars" stuff, after all, I am 68 years old.
I love this series!! Try it. It is great adventure, suspense, kickass heroes and heroines, and the romance is so good. Now, I can hardly wait for the next book.
Normally I would read a book this size in a day. However I am on my second day because I keep rereading sections, not because its confusing but because the book is so good. I keep going back to reread specific moments.
What just happened? What happened to this book? Here is an honest real review of this book: Around page 97 this book WENT OFF THE RAILS! Let's start with page 32. When Galene and Talyn found out that the Queen (Cairistiona) had adopted Fain, (that meant Talyn was no longer a lack-Vest...without paternal lineage), the conversation he and his mother have about Felicia is a strange one. I thought his mother loved Felicia, but reading pp 32-33, one would think she didn't. Felicia was just a paid companion, but her son could do better now that he had a paternal lineage. HUH? Next....once they're all on the station where Fain basically lives (why, really?) a battle alert sounds and Galene falls apart, becomes hysterical, crying, sobbing and begging Fain to ground their son and not let him go into battle...correct me if I'm wrong but isn't she the Prime commander for the Andarion armada and don't her son take orders from her? Uhhhhhhhhhh, wait, isn't Galene Andarion and aren't they supposed to be fierce people with red/white eyes and Fangs for goodness sakes! Yes I know she's his mother but come on Ms Kenyon, you killed Galene's character at that point. Fain mentioned that Galene was bossy and liked to issue orders but obviously she couldn't get anyone to follow her orders. Why was she over the Andarion armada? This story basically ended on page 118. He tells her why he left she wants him back but she's wary, they agree to date, blah, blah, blah....the last 383 pages was some crazy mumbo jumbo mess. This story tried to have a little mystery, but not.....All the characters from the other books were in the story but why? they added nothing to the plot. the strangest surprise in the whole book was Jullien's wife and family. Now we are supposed to feel bad about him and his poor life so we will all read his story in the near future. NO! I don't think we, the readers, who love these characters, should have to read another Acheron and Styxx story. I loved Talyn's character, his sense of humor...Fain was this dangerous warrior who fought back against his capturer/owner Venik, but yet it seems odd that he couldn't fight back against Merrell and Chrisen who threatened the life of his brother Dancer if he didn't dump Galene when they were younger. Yet Talyn defeats both of them...Mmmmmm. I vote for a Talyn and Felecia spinoff series. They both were pretty consistent character wise to who they were in their book. What a mensid mess......
In spite of the dark world of the League, this is part of a series of light shining into lives once untouched by love and hope. Love is what binds the different characters into families. Things are not always how they look at first glance, or even second. The story line is even better if the series is read in sequence but this is not necessary. It makes it easier to I.D the secondary characters who have already had their own stories presented. Betrayal was my introduction to Ms. Kenyon's world of hope blooming from hatred. I have read them all in sequence. Each book follows a theme with clues provided in the title. Betrayal is chock full of betrayals, and how these are dealt with, from justice to forgiveness. Do you like love stories with strong principals? The League provides over the top alphas, who must overcome brutal dysfunctional childhoods to become loving protective husbands and fathers. Ms. Kenyon's matches her heroes with strong women who are their equals or even superiors who love their mates while leading them home to a place of peace and light. Read and Enjoy!
Born of Betrayal has landed near the top my list of favorites of the League series. I have often wondered what happened to Fain, and it was very touching and heartbreaking to finally see Fains story.
I laughed, I was frustrated, I was angry for a minute at Sherrilyn Kenyon (if you've read it, you know why!!!), but I got over that quick when things were revealed, and I was caught up in the life of Fain and all that was happening in his present circumstances. I couldn't put this book down!!!
*Book was received for the purpose of an honest review from the publisher*
**Review is cross-posted with MyBookAddictionandMore.com/Reviews**
First I have to start off saying I read the first 3 books in this series years ago when they were originally released and then haven't kept up with the series. I'm more into Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter world. With that said, I was able to pick this one and get completely drawn in. Yes there are a lot people to keep track up, a new world to follow and other story-lines outside the romance between Fain and Galene to follow. Fans of this series are going to be thrilled with this one, I'm not a "true" fan as I don't follow this series and yet I sat up all NIGHT long until 4am to finish this one in one setting. I couldn't put it down! The story just pulled me in and I had to know what was going to happen. Now I find I have to go back and read the ones I've missed and go back and reread the original three as they've be updated and revised from their original formats. Fans of SF will love BORN OF BETRAYAL. But if like me, you aren't a true SF fan but do love romance I think you'll still enjoy BORN OF BETRAYAL. I see alot of Kenyon's writing style carrying over. No matter what she writes you can't help but be pulled in and eager for more. I loved the characters, I loved their interactions with each other, the plot, the hard facts they had to fact and come to terms with, the on going battle...............all of it. Honestly it was like reading something I could see as part of a Star Trek show but still felt realistic to an extent. It's hard to explain, there were tons of characters that could have made me feel lost and unsure of what was going on but somehow Kenyon kept me focused on the main two, Fain and Galene, even with everything else that pulled at my attention and all the other characters that made you smile and laugh or want to know more you still were able to follow the romance. That is a sign of a true master, when I know there are tons of other stories going on and instead of getting lost I feel like I'm part of the story. I'm there watching from the sidelines, I'm the fly on the wall as they say, I'm just another character watching at it all unfolds and I learn with the characters what's going to happen next, I learn secrets I didn't expect. Coming into this one blind in a way as a reader who hasn't followed this series, I still felt like it worked. Yes I think those who follow the series will likely get side jokes or understand a bit more about the struggle Fain and Galene face, I still think I was fine. I have been a fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon for over a decade. I've traveled to multiple states for her book signings and anxiously await her books. My local bookstore knows me well enough by now to have a copy of her book behind the counter on release day. Her series are "must buys". The League Series have been dear to my heart since Nyk and Kiara's story so long ago.
Fain's story has been coming for a long time. And I have to say it's been surprising. Just goes to show you that things are not always how they seem. Forgiveness can be earned. And people can change. A fantastic read, well worth the cost.
I had been waiting for the next league series to come out. I was a little disappointed this time. All the other series I have really enjoyed. But 9 was all over the place. And then there were also parts that just kept being repeated. I wanted to stop reading it but that's not me I always want to know what happens at the end. It wasn't as action pact as the others. And the ending wasn't all that great either.
As always Sherrilyn Kenyon delivers! I love the War Haukes and was so happy to see Fain get his story. Delivers exactly what one expects from a Brotherhood novel. Recommended to all Kenyon and brotherhood fans.
A very tragic story line but the League Series books are. Very interesting twists and turns and I enjoyed reading the book. The only down side is that the story tried to bring in many characters from the other books and it made it a little difficult to place them all and the relationships to the main characters
This book in e sent does not disappoint. The plot goes to places that are unexpected. Hope are on the edge of your seat wondering whether Fain will experience a sliver e happiness. Definitely don't see the outcome
I have read all the books in this series. However, this one, with its cast of thousands, was so confusing, I could not finish. So many characters, relationships, places made it absolutely not understandable. I will return this one.
I read about 50% of this one prior to giving up. The romance and the relationship with the son were the best part of the story. But the sheer number of characters left me wondering about the connections. I felt the price of this book was too high to be left with so many questions as to the relationships.
I have been provided with a review copy of Born of Betrayal from the publisher St. Martin’s Press for an impartial review. Born of Betrayal is the tenth book in The League: Nemesis Rising Series and it picks up around where the eighth installment Born of Fury left off. In this book we get to see Fain Hauk find his way to his happily ever after. This book was awesome it had me gasping left and right and thinking that possibly couldn’t have just happened. I really enjoyed this book not only do you get to see more of Galene Batur and her son Talyn that we previously met in Born of Defiance but you start to understand the whole picture better surrounding all three of them and what actually went on between them and why things are the way they are. What another great installment by this author and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
Whew! Love Sherilyn Kenyon's books! This book really pulled out all the stops and was filled with twists, turns, and betrayals. Just when you sigh and think all is well another twist jumps off the page. If you love space, alien species, romance, violence, and almost happy endings, don't miss this series.
The action keeps getting heavier and more intense as the war against the League continues on. Fain and Galene are two who have loved each other since they were kids and were promised to each other their whole lives, but the ruling family Anatole were up to their meddling in their lives and forced Fain to leave her right as they were preparing for their graduation. What Fain was unaware of at the time was that she was pregnant with Talyn when things fell apart. What surprised me with their story is his true feelings about Omira, Sumi's dead older sister. Up until this story, we are led to believe he truly loved his human wife, but that isn't the case and all that we thought we knew about Fain isn't even close to the truth. A lot of secrets are revealed as they fight together to find a traitor in their midst. Their love story was strong and I loved the hazing that Talyn kind of put him through. Especially when Fain finally puts the pieces together and Talyn in his dry dead-pan humorous tone tells his mom he has finally figured out that he isn't her boy toy but her son. Watching their relationship develop and their happy ending was so enjoyable and when Talyn and Felicia finally get to get married was so perfect. I loved that sequence of scenes so much. Overall things are going so well with this series and I love every intense moment of each book. I have two more to read before I am finally caught up. This is definitely one of my absolute favorite series of all times. On to Born of Legend.
