I absolutely loved this couple and story. We finally get a realistic hero...flawed and strong. Conrad is a very likeable character, even with his crazed beginnings. He didn't obsess over his past, instead embraced it and was ready to face it. I felt the love his brothers had for him with trying to help him. I loved Neomi. I felt her lonlieness as a ghosts, yet she survived all those years, stealing her trinkets, listening to tadpoles...lol. I loved the past parts of her life and was glad she had happiness, sucess and a life before she met Conrad. The two of them together was great. I finally felt that the leads actually fell in love and not just this see-mate-instant love that many of the others seem to have had. The book held just enough conflict without overwhelming the characters with so many obstacles life seems unliveable. I loved the ending and the blend of just enough Lore characters. Great read.

In this book we finally get to meet the fourth Wroth brother, Conrad.
Unlike his brothers he has drunk directly from the flesh and killed while drinking blood,
so he has the same red eyes as the Horde vampires.
All the memories of his victims are slowly turning him mad and only the need for vengeance keeps him going.
But then he gets captured by his brothers, they think they can cure him from the bloodlust.
But it's not his brothers' efforts that make him gain control, but Neomi, the ghost in the house
where he is held captive.
Neomi is a feisty women who seems to know how to calm Conrad. It was lovely to see them together,
gradually falling for each other and both getting frustrated because she was a ghost.
I'm not gonna say more about it, just read what happens!

I strongly suspected that this installment was going to be a miss for me because ghost romances are a personal pet peeve of mine, but I’m listening to this series in order, and it was next up on my to-do list. Kresley Cole’s writing and Robert Petkoff’s narration were by no means at fault here; I still enjoyed many of the secondary elements of this story, the most noteworthy of which being Nix’s dialogue and the author’s phone sex style approach to the earlier love scenes was as erotic as it sounds.
Spooks have their place in paranormal fiction such as hauntings, or sidekicks, my difficulty with them lies in their feasibility as happily-ever-after candidates. There are really only two possible scenarios in this type of situation, and that is for either the deceased half of the couple to be revived by magical means, or for the living partner to join their beloved in the beyond. Option two is kind of a downer, so authors tend to ostracize it in favour of the former which essentially means that a character will be brought back to life thus breaking one of my top three hard no-no rules. Again, this is an individual preference.
Docking an audiobook two stars for the above seems pretty harsh which is why my quibbles with DARK NEEDS AT A NIGHT’S EDGE do not end there. Initially I liked Conrad’s character; he was edgy, on the cusp of madness, and cutthroat to the extreme. Néomi for her part didn’t make much of an impression on me; she was moody, superficial, and rather boring to be honest. Their relationship was comprised of numerous long winded discussions, stop-and-starts, and overall they just lacked chemistry. I enjoyed the other two Wroth brothers, Bowen, Cadeon & Rydstrom’s brief cameos, and as usual the Soothsayer bits were a slam dunk.
I thanked my lucky stars that Robert Petkoff’s narration was there to see my through book 4 because without him I would have been in real danger of giving up on this installment. His transition from present to past tense as he followed Conrad’s progression from insanity to lucidity was a stroke of genius in both its delivery, and Cole’s writing technique. Petkoff stayed true to the French language with his accent, and pronunciations while also conveying Néomi’s coquettish femininity which demonstrated great range considering his aptitude with the bestial alpha males of this series.
My issues with DARK NEEDS AT A NIGHT’S EDGE were wholly my own, so what was only an average listen for me could be, and is an extraordinary addition to the IMMORTALS AFTER DARK franchise for the masses.

Look it was better then most paranormal romances, but then again if it wasn't Kresley Cole I may have not even bothered to finish it which says something.
Conrad is a fallen vampire who has a dreadful blood lust. Naomi is a dead x-dancer whom was killed in her home by a stalker x-boyfriend back in the 20's.
Conrad is a Roth brother and if you have read the other books you would know that all the Wroths are vampires. This brother though is not near as sweet or as good as the others. He is beyond help it seems and crazed. Because of his mental state his brothers kidnap him and bring him to the run down home that Naomi was killed in and is haunting.
For some unknown reason Conrad can see her where as every one else can not. They have a few hot moments and spend the rest of time talking about their feelings and so on while he is held captive until he "recovers" from his blood lust.
Naomi is as I mentioned dead so they can't actually touch, that's where the witch "Mariketa" comes into play. She is married to Bowen a werewolf from a prior book in the series (a great one too) anyways she turns Naomi into flesh and blood for a price, yet with a catch. Naomi will not live long - she has a week or so maybe.
Conrad and she enjoy what time they have before she dies. When she dies for good (it seems) Conrad is out of his mind with grief and begs Mariketa to bring Naomi back to life which she does again, but this time Naomi is immortal. She is a Phantom, she can become whole or spirit with little effort. That's the jest of it.
Now there is some play between the Wroth brothers and their crazy vampire brother. You know "we are trying to help you, why won't you let us help you" kind of stuff.
Not a real page turner, no real wow factor, and the erotica between the two main characters is so-so. If you read the other books you need to read this one, but then again if you don't I really don't think you will miss that much.

Really enjoying this series and I especially like the Wroth brothers. Can't wait to read Murdoch's story. I also really like that main characters in future books are truly a part of the whole ensemble of characters. I hate those series where the main characters of the next book in the series are simple introduced in the last chapter or two of the previous book. It's simply not enough info to get interested in the character or the next book in the series.
Can't wait to read the next book on demon Cade. He seems sooo interesting.

I loved this book but gave it a 4 only because I loved books 3 and 4 just a smidge more. The dialogue was great and I loved the characters.
**Very vague complaint about one small part**
One thing I found a bit odd was when the Myst and Kaderin showed up at Elancourt. I kept thinking, why would they do what they were planning. Seems like that part could have just been left out altogether. My only complaint.

I give this book a '5' star for uniqueness, but a '4' for the character. Each book in this series is impossible to put down and so different from each other, that this is another 'must have'. I tended to skim over the repeat of the 'vampire history' since I have read it before. When Conrad is subdued and imprisoned in a home by his very own brothers, he "meets/sees" his Bride. Since she isn't physically presentable, no one can see her. As Conrad is injected with more calming drugs, he is better able to see her, and slowly begins his obsession with her. Although he cannot come alive without her physically present, he struggles to come to terms with her being real. Neomi, the ghost, is a fun-loving ex-ballerina that takes quite an interest in the crazy-fallen vampire. Her personality is incredible in light of Conrad's madness, that it makes such a fun read.

This is the 5th book in the IAD series. And each book is better than the book before it.
Kresley Cole has an amazing imagination. I was bewildered as to how she would work things out. It was a complex story with astonishing twists & turns.
The characters in each book become more defined. Their personalities substantial. Their world more tangible.
This story is about Conrad & Neomi.
Neomi is a ghost. Conrad a vampire.
And this is a fantastic book!

Another fast-paced hit from Krelsey Cole! I couldn't put this one down. This story is about Conrad Wroth, brother to Sebastian Wroth from "No Rest for the Wicked". He's a crazed vampire who is teetering on the edge of insanity locked in a mansion by his three brothers. He sees a ghost that no one else can see and it happens to be a lonely female. I liked the storyline as it was a bit different being that she's a ghost and not just a "human" as some authors do. I also like the inclusion of other characters from previous stories in this book, which Krelsey tends to do, and does it well too. It "keeps it real". I also thought it extremely funny that Mike Roth from "Dirty Jobs" is the love interest of Nix! I laughed out loud when I read that! I love this series! It's sexy, funny and fast-paced. If you haven't read the other books, I suggest you go back and do so. You won't be sorry!

I must say that I love Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark Series with her fantastically funny, strong and sexy immortals however I was hesitant when reading the synopsis of this story considering it deal with two characters not introduced previously in her series ( to tell you the truth I wanted more Lykes and to learn about Reign and her Berserker). I wondered how a crazed vampire and a ghost none the less would appeal to me. I was so wrong. This book is fantastic. Conrad is a tortured soul who was a hired assassin who is insane with bloodlust and the "thirst" where as Neomi is a ghost who will murdered in the highlight of her life by her ex-fiancée. I thought...how could this be interesting. BOY WAS I WRONG. This is book is fantastic and compelling as they two discover and fight for each other. As in her other books there is the wonderful Nix and predictions and we get to Mari and Bowe right in the action. The sexual chemistry between Conrad and "his little ballerina" is amazing as Neomi shows Conrad what he's been missing in life. The commitment to help Conrad from his brothers along with the guilt for past transgressions makes the story even more compelling. Then there are "hints" to future stories as the Worth Brothers look for their Bride not to mention the Demons Rydstrom and Cade look for their mates. I must say that I thought that last book was the best, but the true love story between the two characters really hooked me. This book is one great read!

I could not feel anything for these two and their budding or not budding relationship ? She is a ghost, not able to be touched not able to touch. He is a dark vampire, crazed from bloodlust and hate. Together they are trapped in her ancient home watching each other wondering the what ifs. his brothers only want to give him the chance they felt he never really had, he only wants to kill them. She watches the going on, amazed when this creature can see and hear her. They grow closer, they talk, but for what future ?
It just did not work for me. I love the Valkrie and the snarky jokes they offered to the story it saved me from quitting the book.

My favorite romance authors are Diana Gabaldon, Stephanie Meyer (so far), and Jane Austen. I've now added Kresley Cole to that list, although she obviously takes the story further ;-) She doesn't use slang or fashion that dates the characters, unless it is a historical romance. Her historical romance accuracy has been brought up in comments, but I didn't find any errors distracting. The heroes sound like real men, whereas some authors write the hero in such a way that I can't tell the difference between him and the heroine. Her heroes don't seem to cross the line into being misogynists either. Her heroines are relatable, usually strong, and never painfully oblivious or dumb. Some of her books are better than others, but compared to other authors in this genre they are all worthy of 5 stars.

This was an outstanding story. I wondered how the author would make this story come together and make it work. She did a great job and I fell in love with this series. It was a little confusing because this was the first one that I had picked up and I would agree with other reviewers that one should probably start at the beginning of this series. However as just a stand alone... well I think that anyone who reads this will instantly want to know the story behind Conrad's brothers mates... as well as Mariketa's story. The subcharacters add so much to this story that it wouldnt be the same without them. Conrad is a great tortured hero and I really loved his secret and felt that it was a great twist on the hero's of today. Neomi was the perfect match for him in that she had suffered as well. The writing is upbeat and interesting without being corny. I love Cole's style. Most definately a recommend, you wont want to put it down.

Local smut writer has been found half-crazed in her home. In a state of in-between, she's at time extremely, erratically, manically lucid. At other times, she's near death, seeming to be dehydrated no matter how much water or IV's are given to her. In this state, her skin alternates between being deathly pale and roaring red. She mumbles incoherent things about males from species that belong only in fantasies. The doctors have hospitalized her in the ICU with a Psych on speed-dial....

A slow descent into madness. That is the life of Conrad Wroth, a vampire warrior. For each kill he makes, the memories of his foes become his own. With each additional kill, the voices in his head become more pronounced until he can't differentiate between his thoughts and thoughts of his defeated enemies. Knowing that insanity is his final reward, he is determined to kill those who made him into the monster he is - his brothers.
Hoping to save their brother from the madness that is overwhelming him, Nikolai, Sebastian and Murdoch capture the defiant Conrad and imprison him in an old, vacant mansion. They don't see the apparition that Conrad sees - the ghostly vision of a stunningly beautiful woman, sure to drive him to further madness as desire begins to consume him.
Néomi Laress has been in a non-corporeal form since her tragic death eighty years ago. Not seen or heard by others, she is astounded that the madman now occupying her home can see her. Though his form is fine, his uncontrollable rages make Néomi cautious. Her presence seems to slightly calm the beast, while his presence brings some brightness to her isolated world. The two begin a mutual journey that could very well be their salvation, or their final destruction.
First, let me say that I have been thoroughly captivated by Cole's well developed world of the Lore. Upon hearing the concept of this book, admittedly I was concerned. How could the author deliver a satisfying romantic pairing between an insane vampire and a ghostly apparition? My uncertainty was quickly put to rest. From the very first page, Kresley Cole hypnotically pulled me into another romantic adventure of her Immortals After Dark Series with DARK NEEDS AT NIGHT'S EDGE.
I never should have doubted the ability of this prolific writer. With a talent for paranormal that has no equal, Ms. Cole creates a hero of dark driven needs and a bold heroine of strength and courage. Conrad Wroth is power personified, but with an irrepressible rage that he struggles to contain after his first meeting with Néomi. His attraction to the lovely ghost competes with his need for revenge. With a strength born of her long imprisonment as a ghost, Neomi is daringly attracted to unattainable life as well as the powerful vampire. The unlikely pairing of these two contrary personas is both compelling and breathtaking.
Prepare yourself for a wickedly exhilarating ride through the world of the Lore with Kresley Cole's latest offering. I can't recommend Conrad and Neomi's book enough. Fabulous, Ms. Cole! Simply fabulous!

This book left something to be desired. Compared to others in the paranormal romance genre, the book is pretty darn good. Great sex scenes and I felt very invested in the characters in the end. But compared to the others in the series, this one fell a little short. I just have a hard time getting around the ghost thing. It kind of bugs me. I've read other books where one of their main characters is a ghost and I felt the same way. So to me it has nothing to do with the way the book was written, its just the concept of someone who has already died and has no corporeal self. I know the author tries to get around this problem, but it just doesn't work for me. There is just way too much cheating death in the book for me to buy it. The other problem I had was with the Neomi's character. I just could not seem to really identify with her. I certainly felt bad for her and her situation, but I did not cheer as loudly for her as I have with the other heroines. I'm glad I read it and it is a good solid book, but compared to the other IAD's it was my least favorite.

I thought Wicked Deeds was my favorite...until I read Dark Needs at Night's Edge. I absolutely loved this book! It is the first time in the 4 books of this series that I read really late one night and finished it the next day. The others took me several days - including Wicked Deeds.
And I have to say that I initally didn't think the story would be THAT great - I mean a crazy vampire and a ghost??? What kind of love scenes could there be? Well, there are. And they are good. I didn't even mind that it took a bit to get to them because there is so much emotion between them.
Another reviewer said the book didn't have adventure. I liked it because of that. I want a book to be mostly about the romance and relationship. And this one is.
Now I'll start Cade's book. Though I can't imagine that one being better. We'll see.

This author, unlike most, gets better with every book! How does she do it? It's all here - good plot, good sex, good characters, great one-liners - just excellent all around.
I won't sum up the plot, since others have, but I will say that this is my second-favorite of the series. (I love the first one the best.) The book grabbed from the beginning and just didn't let go. I loved the characters, really felt for their situations, and their HEA was so sweet and deserved. I also loved the glimpses of other characters I've come to know and love.
This author is a total auto-buy for me. Her series grows richer with every installment, yet doesn't stray too far from the central theme, which is romance. I want a HEA, and Cole delivers.
I can't wait for the next one in May, and maybe someday one about Nix!

Dangerous 'turned' vampire, Conrad Wroth, is imprisoned by his brothers in an abandoned mansion. Controlled by his bloodlust and plagued by the horrific memories of his victims, the mercenary slowly edges closer to insanity. There, on the eerie estate, a beautiful confined phantom, Neomi, haunts the grounds. A spirit that no one can see, touch or hear. An insignificant being. That is, until she discovers that there is one person who can *see* her. A force deep within Conrad calls to this woman. But he can't seem to resist the extreme pull of his darker side. And a desperate Neomi longs to be *bodily* again, willing to do anything. Their needs and desires will them to be together. If only that were possible.
Another great installment in The Immortals After Dark series. Unlike its predecessor, Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night (The Immortals After Dark, Book 3), this book can be read as a stand alone. Although I recommend reading the series in order because the other books are just so darn good!
Also unlike in all the other books, the hero starts out as a completely vile villain. But Cole (author) manages to make him a sympathetic character without somehow losing his dark edge. And Neomi is another eyebrow raising character for a heroine -no body. Huh? -what are the love scenes like? You won't get it from me! ;). So both characters are similar due to there own uniqueness from any I've ever read. Two people (if you will) looking for something they may likely never be able to have because of physical (Neomi) and mental (Conrad) roadblocks. How sad is that!
And as usual, along with those great characterizations, steamy love scenes and intriguing plot, there are plenty of interesting surprises and tons of teasers for future books (especially the next one, Dark Desires After Dusk (The Immortals After Dark, Book 5)). Previous couples also make appearances, markedly Mariketa & Bowen (who else is in love with this werewolf?).
So this book is another keeper for me. Hmmmm....demons are next. Wonder whats up with those horns -*wiggling eyebrows* ;). LOL!

Dark Needs at Night's Edge is my favorite in the entire series of Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series. Why you may ask? Well the plot veers from the usual plot you usually expect from Ms. Cole's brillant world of immortals. And for the first time in a long time, I really loved both the hero and the heroine. Neomi was this confidant femme fatale who owned her sexuality and even though the hero didn't she didn't hold that against him or belittle him. Also, both characters were these tragic broken creatures who find themselves while finding true love. This book like the rest of the series is definitely work putting on your shelf.

What can I say, I have a weakness for sexy vampires! I loved the 5th book in the IAD series. I think Conrad was a great hero and I loved the relationship he had with Néomi. I am a HUGE sucker for Kresley Cole's book. They are like M&Ms or some delicious junk food. They taste so freaking good and you can't stop with just one.
What is great about these series is that the story is so nicely told, so fun and fresh, it doesn't feel like the same old same old paranormal romance mumbo jumbo.
Keep um coming Ms. Cole!

In 1927 in New Orleans Neomi Laress was a highly regarded ballerina when she was murdered by her former fiancé Louis Robicheaux. However, she never moved on; instead she has haunted her newly restored estate Elancourt, for the eight decades since he killed her.
Vampire Conrad Wroth hates himself for his inability to control his need for blood. Worried about him, his brothers take him to Elancourt to keep him away from people while hoping he will regain his sanity. However, when he meets the shadowy phantom haunting the estate, he wants to help her, but has no idea how as he cannot even touch her. As they fall in love, Conrad notices his rage and torment has abated andhe prays for a miracle; he turns to paranormal expert Mariketa the Witch to provide the means to achieve his objective.
The Cole mythos (See Immortals After Dark tales such as NO REST FOR WICKED and A HUNGER LIKE NO OTHER) continues to be one of the best romantic fantasy environs for sub-genre fans. The latest is a terrific star-crossed romantic fantasy between a vampire and a ghost; they share in common love and a lust for life though both are not mortally alive. His caring brother and Mariketa add depth to a wonderful tale of a ghost who learns love is so much better on the soul than revenge and an angry vampire who learns love is so much better for the soul than uncontrollable rage. This is another winner from an author who keeps writing super romantic fantasy.

I love this series of books. Dark Needs is the latest installment and is about the youngest Wroth brother(vamp)Conrad who is one of the Fallen meaning he has drank his victims to death. His brothers, to save him capture and confine him in Elancourt, a grand 1920's era estate. The brothers are unaware that a ghostly ballerina also resides there and only Conrad can see her. The story is touching, funny and easy to read in one sitting. Conrad and Neomi are wonderful characters, rich and vibrant. You'll find yourself aching for them to find their seemingly impossible happy ending. This one goes on my keeper shelf for sure!

I have to say that at first I hade my reservations about how this book pan out. A crazy vampire hit man and a 1920's ballerina who's been dead for over eighty years? Not only did she not blood him right away, but he doesn't even think she's real and makes a point to ignore her. Plus, how are you going to write a hot romance when the man cant get sexually aroused and the woman doesn't have a body? Leave it to Kresley to do it!
She jumps into the story with how Neomi died and reintroduced those hot Wroth brothers and the werewolf Bowen battling with thier lost brother, Conrad, who intends on killing them and thier Brides. Hopeing theye can cure him of his crazy blood lust they lock him in an abonded, and unknown to them, haunted, mantion in New Orleans. It takes a good fight since all the living blood Conrad had taken over the last three hundred years has made him posibbly more powerful than all three brothers put together. Once Conrad is there he immediatly senses the being within the house, but, like I said before, believes her to be the product of the hundred other memories in his head that are not hit own. This is where the book lags a bit since she uses the next chapters to fill in the details of the lore and the brothers' turn into vampires. Conrad and Neomi interact very little untill she makes herself immpossible to ignore...and things finally heat up.
These two had some magor obsticals to hurdle. Neomi has to become alive again, Conrad has to become sane, she has to blood him, he has to work on the many immortals gunning for him (including the Woede brothers), and she has to work on her immortality so they can be together forever. I'm glad Kresley used mean other than Riora's key (won by Bastian in No Rest For The Wicked) to bring these two road blocked lovers together. When the key was brought up early in the book I was unhappy with the idea that this simple thing was going to be the resolution to this complexe story. But, thankfully, that catastrophy was averted with wonderful storytelling!
As characters Conrad and Neomi may not be as likable as other characters in the series. Plus, I dont think as readers we get to know them very well.Conrad is a fallen vampire hell bent on killing his brothers and their Brides. Not good hero material. But he is redeemed and made into a sympathetic character you feel for and want to see happy. But, he still keeps that dark, slightly crazy, edge that makes him irrisistable to readers. Neomi is not as strong as the other females from previouse books. But I guess it's hard to go against the Valkrie, huh? She's a little to sexy wife compared to the past warrior woman of the series. And unlike the timid Emma of A Hunger Like No Other Neomi never redeems herself as a strong woman able to compete in the immortal world. Not in Valkrie standards, anyway. Still she does comfort the crazed Conrad and challenge his madness, but without really going head to head with him like past couples. She does however fit into the immortal world without batting an eye.
All in all a great read like any other Kresley book. With a lot of twists and the on going plot of the Accession you get to check in on past characters like Nickolie, Bastion, Bowen, Mari, Regin, Myst, Kaderin and Nix. And you get closer to the stories we are ever so patiently waiting for (Murdoch and Danii, Cade Woede and his human female, and Rydstrome and his quest for his lost crown). Can't wait!

I purchased this book as part of the 4 pack. The wroth brothers. A Cole fan, this one is another winner. The plot moves. Loved the messy vampires. Can't say enough good things. If you are a IAD fan, GO FOR IT. IF not, enter the world of Kresley Cole and be BLOWN away by this series. Cole's stories are wonderful entertainment. Fun, fast, hysterically funny, gruesome. They will shake you up and you're going for a great ride. You will be spoiled - nobody can touch Kresley Cole for her paranormal romance.

If I could climb into this book and then into Conrad's bed...well, I wouldn't be writing this review. Conrad is the epitome of sexy for me. Possessive, not all there (means he's crazzzyyy), SEXY, rewarding in bed, and a little bit of a bad @ss.
The story starts out explaining how Neomi, a 1900s ballerina was murdered and then turned into a ghost, destined to haunt her home for all eternity. Conrad is a out of his mind vampire assassin who will do anything to kill his three brothers for what they did to him hundreds of years before. They turned him against his will, violating his entire beliefs. Things don't go his way (and with the help of a certain yummy wolf) they imprison him in a certain haunted house. Conrad falls deeply in love with his not all there either ballerina, and while they yearn to touch each other, they are content with being intimate in other ways. That all changes when Conrad is determined to escape, kill his brothers, and reanimate his bride- their really not married in that sense-. This all goes wrong with a little white lie and one person's hand. Conrad yells at Neomi, calling her pathetic and all kinds of names, things Neomi says he cant take back. He leaves Neomi alone, trapped in a rundown mansion, and that night, while out haunting at a Lore party or was that a Lore orgy? Anyway he sees something that he shouldn't. Neomi. ALIVE. And that little doubt that he had about her not being his bride vanishes with a hard on. Big surprise. The ensuing love scene is hot, very, very hung- I mean heavy and I feel a little like slapping Neomi's wonderful self for putting her hands on my man...anyway I gave enough of the story away, but lets just say that Neomi's new body comes with a HEAVY price. I l-o-v-e Kresley Cole and my only suggestion to her would be to make a heroine named Ashley, of medium height and weight, dark brown hair and green eyes in her next novel so that I wouldn't have to pretend so much while I'm reading. I don't like paranormals, but Cole goes above and beyond genres with her stories. Recommend it with all im worth.

I'm not a big fan of the paranormal genre and this is my first Kresley Cole purchase. I read the reviews first before I bought this at a store. I had 2 other Immortals books in my hand and decided to go with this one after reading the premise and the first page. As a fledling writer I was curious to see how Ms Cole would resolve such a brilliantly difficult conflict: how do a tormented vampire and a ghost find love?
What thrilled me about this story is that it transcends the genre to the point where you want to find out how these two beings will make it work, you want to find out more about them. I love that the hero starts out very dark and villianlike with a secret that the heroine finds very sexy. I won't give it away but I thought it was a brilliant twist on the author's part. The personality pairing is sexy and intriguing as it unfolds. The paranormal aspect is very easy to follow and doesn't intrude on the humanity of the characters the way explaing of folklores can.
Beautifully written.

This is definately one of my favorites, and I strongly recommend you read it asap. Getting caught up in the Lore of Kresly's world has been quite the rollercoaster ride of fun & laughs, courage and tears, fear and heartache, and good over evil. Just when I wonder what in the world will Cole come up with next, I am tickled pink to curl up with another one of her thoroughly enjoyable reads. It is amazing how Cole is able to keep the stories so uniquely individual and yet part of the whole series. Conrad & Neomi's story is a MUST MUST MUST read and addition to your library. I will never look at guost the same again....

When Néomi Laress, a prima ballerina in the 1920s, was murdered by her jilted ex-fiance, her spirit remained fused with her New Orleans home, Elancourt. For 80 years, Néomi wandered the rooms of Elancourt, lonely, bored, and with only the newspaper for reliable entertainment. Néomi doesn't cherish her existence as a ghost, but rather accepts it and all that comes with it--including being forced to relive her brutal death every month on the night of the sliver moon. When the Wroth brothers, feared vampires who are members of the Forbearers (a group of vampires who refuse to drink directly from the vein), bring their brother Conrad into her midst, at first Néomi is eager for the company. But when she sees the violent madman in her haven, she begins to wonder if she was right to be so eager...
Conrad Wroth was changed into a vampire by his brother Nikolai, without approval or consent. Hating what he is, Conrad has devoted his life to getting even with his brothers, and he will see them dead for what they are. In the meantime, he has built a name for himself as an assassin, and a deadly one at that. Drinking the blood of his enemies, Conrad has become strong with the power of numerous immortals, though the price for that power is retaining the memories of those who he has murdered, which manifest as hallucinations that border on madness. When his brothers catch up with him in New Orleans, Conrad is ready for a fight. When they bind him in mystical chains and keep him prisoner in a haunted mansion, he vows revenge, even as he becomes fascinated with the ghostly ballerina who lives there...
Dark Needs at Night's Edge is the fourth book in Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series (the first three are, in order, A Hunger Like No Other (The Immortals After Dark Series, Book 1),No Rest for the Wicked, and Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night (The Immortals After Dark, Book 3)) and I have to say that this is one series that just keeps getting better.
Fans of this series will remember the Wroth brothers, Nikolai (who finds his Bride in Myst the Valkyrie in the short story collection Playing Easy to Get), Sebastian (who mates with Kaderin the Coldhearted in No Rest for the Wicked), and Murdoch (who mates with Daniela the Ice Maiden in the upcoming short story collection Not That Innocent). After learning about their history in the earlier books, I had an image of Conrad as coldhearted, a man without remorse who killed for pleasure--and for me, there's no hero in that. But Kresley Cole has a way of changing my mind about things, and in this story has crafted Conrad as a man on the verge, who can only be brought back by the love of his true Bride. The transformation that overcomes Conrad when he encounters Néomi, and the way he reforms over time just proves that you should never say never. Conrad went from being a bloodthirsty lunatic to a devoted mate, willing to do anything, sacrifice without measure, and move mountains to ensure his true love's happiness. The fact that the woman in question was a ghost didn't stop him, and he became determined to help Néomi find her corporeal self.
And Néomi. I do love Kresley Cole's heroines because these women aren't shrinking violets; they give as good as they get, and Néomi is no exception. The idea of the heroine as a ghost has been done before and badly (think Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 5)), so I was a little leery about this choice. But Néomi is infused with character and doesn't just sit back and accept that she will remain bound to her home for all eternity. She knows what she wants--Conrad--and she's willing to do anything to get him. It also helps that she's sultry, a former burlesque dancer, and doesn't just bend to Conrad's will. When he fights with her, or his rage returns, she either sends him on his way or puts him in his place. Delightful!
The Immortals After Dark series gets better with each new story, and Kresley Cole as a writer continues to hone her talents, delivering dazzling new characters and infinitely more creative plots with every new offering. This series is one to cherish, and I can't wait for the next story Dark Desires After Dusk (The Immortals After Dark, Book 5) (where Cade the rage demon finds his mate), which comes out in May.

This was a fun fast paced read. I found the plot fascinating. The heroine became a ghost when her jealous ex-fiance murdered her in cold blood. But, the book doesn't make her into a pitiful ghost. She is a very curious one, who enjoyed watching the people who lived in her house, and she has other quirks too.
I like how the author created these 2 immortals and explained their powers and traits. I love how, in this book, the heroine has more sexual experience than the hero, and it was very exciting. Don't worry, the hero is still very manly, and the heroine is not painted as a loose woman at all.
I love that the Heroine is very independent and secure, yeah!! And Mariketa makes a strong re-appearance in this book. The Valkyries again add their kind of fun.

Totally in love with this series by Kresley Cole and will be back again for more.
I never seem to be able to get enough and this book isn't any different.
Dark Needs see's one of the Wroth brothers finding his Bride, despite some complications along the way. But where is the fun, if there isn't a little danger.

A lovely love story and a nice change from the standard vamp romance. Ghost meets vampire. Ghost and vampire fall in love. Ghost and vampire can't touch... oops! The protagonists come up with very creative solutions to this problem. The ending is a bit contrived, but the rest of the book makes up for it.

Kresley Cole delivers another amazing story yet again. As usual, we get Ms. Cole's trademark quick start.
Fallen vampire Conrad Wroth our hero, is actually an anti-hero. Conrad is both intense and angry about being a blooded vampire. Without his consent his vampire brothers, Nikolai, Sebastian and Murdoch, want to rehabilitate Conrad from his rage state, something that has never been done before. The trio entrap him at Elancourt, a crumbling New Orleans mansion. What they don't know is that Elancourt is inhabited by a sweet, beautiful ghost named Neomi that only Conrad can see. So begins a beautiful romance that runs the gamut from humor to poignancy. Conrad can't believe that this little ghost can be his bride. Even being a ghost, Neomi is an amazingly "fleshed" out character who so wants to be corporeal. Which sets the stage for Mariketa (she and Nix are worth the price of the book alone!) the witch to try and make Neomi mortal.
Demons want to separate Conrad's gorgeous head from his gorgeous immortal body so he has his hands full keeping both himself and Neomi safe.
Lucky for those of us who are already fans of Kresley Cole's amazing Immortals After Dark series that we revisit some of the Lore characters we love: Mariketa and Bowen (Wicked Deeds On A Winter's Night), Nikolai and Myst (anthology Playing Easy to Get), Sebastian and Kaderin (No Rest for the Wicked). And don't forget Lachlain and Emma (A Hunger Like No Other).
If you're new to the series, you are in for a treat! And don't forget Ms. Cole's unforgettable historical series, If You Desire, If You Deceive and If You Dare.

I will keep this as short as possible since everyone who rated this book with 5 stars has basically echoed my own sentiments. Kresley Cole has fast become one of my favorite authors, and I will buy her books sight unseen. As with all her books, Dark Needs at Nights Edge started with a bang and kept me interested all the way through as I anxiously turned the pages to see if a mad vamp and a ghost could develop any sort of romantic relationship. I mean really, could a crazy vampire on the razor's edge of complete madness be sexy and oh so compelling? Could the heroine, who has no real body be enticing and intriguing? Definitely, when Ms. Cole is the author! Once again, I was more than pleased with the ending-- the hero and the heroine gave each other their love, a reason, and the means to truly live. The premise for other books in the series was firmly set and leaves me waiting for the next one! Splendid!!!

Have you been looking for a book that has an amazing paranormal plot with well defined characters? Congratulations - the smut is a bonus that comes with, making The Immortal After Dark Series *the best* one out there.
Like Kresley says on her web site, romance authors don't get enough R-E-S-P-E-C-T. I had picked up her first IADS book, A Hunger Like No Other, very soon after it hit the charts. I was in absolute love! Before I'd never read anything like it, so I thought to myself, 'What have I been missing?!' I ventured out to other authors of the vampire loving variety, and in a shocking turn of events came crawling back to my beloved Cole, begging for cover. She gives what other books don't - wit and imagination. Everything else left me feeling cold, and bored. This *never* happens with a Kresley Cole book, and I can't see it becoming like it either.
After so many books in a series, many authors tend to go on a downhill slope. Not her, baby! She keeps on burning, only getting hotter with time.
Conrad Wroth is an Estonian war lord from the 17th century, turned vampire against his will by his own brothers as he died defending his home. On his own, he did what he needed to do to survive - and with it became stark raving mad. Every kill he was paid for came with, not only money to live on, but his prey's immense power and memories. He is a tainted vampire, one of the red eyed fiends that the Lore fears - lost to madness and awaiting his death at every corner. When his brothers; Sebastian, Murdoch and Nikolai capture him to attempt to bring him back, they place him within the confines of Elancourt Manor to met out his recovery.
Neomi Laress was a ballet dancer. Was, being the key word. On her most famous night, the raven haired beauty was brutally murdered before an entire crowd inside the comfort of her home. But her spirit was strong, refusing to die out and fade - and so she became bound to her beloved manor as a ghost. Charismatic, charming and unapologetic, Neomi is a gentle soul with a zest for life; so when a vampire comes a knocking on her door, the naturally curious being investigates.
His body cannot feel lust - she cannot touch. But there is something there, beyond words and outward acts of emotion that slowly pull them together, making them dependant on the other. If only she were human again, she would blood him and become his fated Bride, driving the madness into the recesses of his mind for good. But obstacles lie in the way - is he strong enough for the two of them to overcome them?
An INCREDIBLE book. If this is your first time in the world of Cole, you'll want to re-track (though it's not necessary) and read the ones that came before while you bide your time waiting for the next installment. I'm a fan for life - if this woman ever stops making IADS, I will always buy whatever else she makes. There is no other for my smutty heart than the talented, jaw-dropping, sizzling stories of Kresley Cole.

I've read books 1 - 3 and really enjoyed them. I liked this book but it is not as good as the predecessors. I was expecting action and twists but the story takes place in one location. The story line moves slowly. The premise is good but I think it could have been more developed.

I LOVE the IAD and highly recommend it. I have read every book Kresley has written, I think it's official, she is my favorite author and I would never say that lightly, I love to read. Way to go Kresley : )

I've been reading these a bit out of order, but i love each book, particularly how well the author links the books and storyline for the Ascension. The characters are well developed and the storyline is interesting. The romance is believable and sexy.

When one of the characters is a ghost, its really hard to have the hands on romance that most expect. Yes we have plenty of the looks, longing and feeling, but once they finally can touch, then the books over. It is fun to build up to the romance, but in this case it was the whole book of building, then end. It was definitely different from the others so far, that is why it got 3 stars, but overall, I could not read this book again and be just fine, while all the others, I want to read again right now!

Kresley's done it again! Dark Deeds is a beautiful book. I love the imagery created by Neomi's ghost and crumbling Gothic home. Conrad is quite the alpha with his violent nature and questionable past. I enjoyed all his "mantrums" and outbursts. It was also great to see the other Wroths brought back in this book - Sebastian is my favorite! Neomi and Conrad's attraction to one another is unquestionable and sizzling hot. With the exception of Wicked Deeds I have loved every single book in the IAD series and can't wait for more.

Dark Needs at Night's Edge was probably my least favorite of the 4 that I've read in this series so far. It just didn't interest me as much as the previous 3. I will say that this book, in my opinion, had one of the hottest sex scenes. The first time Néomi and Conrad get to it = hot hot hot! I think it's worth reading just for that! The ending is great, of course and all in all, for me, this book was good but not great.

This story was worth every penny. It delivered a very sexy heroine who bravely faced all her fears head on as well as a HOT damaged hero with sweetness to spare. The plot draws you in (especially if you're up on the other books) and makes you really care about their struggle to be together. Supporting characters are lovable and only add to the story. Fast moving and exceptional - I've already re-read it several times.

I was really unsure when I purchased this book, but I'm glad I did. I finished this book in one day, not that I don't finish the rest of my books that fast. I really loved Conrad, and the story she told of him and his brothers. Kinda upset that it kept jumping at crazy times, but got past that and kept going. The sex scenes were great, for her to be gentle with him when he was a virgin was great. If only I could get dirty with a vampire I would be all to thrilled to keep going too. Started late in the series but I plan on playing catch up. WTG Ms. Cole.

Cole's latest is on par with her previous IAD novels, though this one is a little slower in the middle. Other than that slight critism, I have total praise for this book. The reader gets to see the relationship between Neomi and Conrad develop from simple companionship between two lonely people to a love affair. Conrad's frequent bouts of madness are well-written and believable, and, though it sounds odd, the way Neomi was transformed into a coporeal being was completely believable as well and even heartwarming. The supporting cast had several of Cole's more memorable characters making appearances, including the Demon Cade whose own book will be out next month. Cole does a great job of balancing more than one story line without losing any of Conrad and Neomi's story. Great job all around!

Seeing how other reviewers have given a quick summary of the book - I will get staight to the point. KC's latest addition to the IAD series is hilarious, fun and sexy. There is absolutely nothing boring or slow in this story. I love the unique characters. A dead burlesque dancer/ballerina and a mad vampire. This heroine is not shy either! She is gutsy and bold - my favorite kind of heroine! Conrad is rather dark and brooding - yet his love is intense.
I love KC's writing because her chacters are so 3-dimensional. You can hear them and feel their emotions. They jump out of the page at you. I loved that I could actually see Conrad gradually come of madness because of this sexy ghost that only he could see (which adds some of the most hilarious moments). KC has this ability to make you feel like you are there watching every moment of her stories.
I highly recommend this book to all lovers of paranormal romance. You will not be disappointed!

The premise of this book really sucked me in: a ghost and a vampire. The description of Neomi's life and the mansion had me turning the pages. And Conrad the lunatic vampire, had me thinking of past loves. lol. Although the last 1/4th of the book has a weird flow to it, the last five pages were very satisfying. I found myself rooting for them. Another great story from Kresley.

I had my heart set on Conrad falling in love with Nix because they are both crazy but at the end when Myst and Kaderin are planning to go to war against the vampire king to get their husbands back...love it. Plus, Nix stating Mike Rowe from "Dirty Jobs" is in love with her...hilarious. I want desperately to read Lucia's story and Regan's.

I agree with some of the other reviewers that this book was the worst of the series. It was VERY SLOW and did not have the action that was present in Cole's other books. I did not care for either Neomi or Conrad and their romance left me cold. I would only suggest reading it if you have read the rest of the Immortals After Dark series, just for completion.

I won't attempt to summarize this novel, as there are already many thorough reviews on it. I just wanted to say that I love Kresley Cole's writing, and have yet to be disappointed with her books, but there was a part of this novel that I could not get past. Everytime she switched to Conrad's point of view, it switches from past to present tense, and it irritated me so much that I felt like putting down the book. When this happened, I found myself analyzing the writing more than enjoying it, so I hope this was a one time thing. Once I forced myself past that, I was able to enjoy the book, but it was a stop and go thing that really distracted me.

I can't say enough about how much I loved this story. Kresley Cole is was of the best writers of Paranormal romance. I would say she is the best but I haven't read every author. I can tell you that this story will keep you hooked from the beginning to the end and you will never be bored. The steamy love story will also make you want to jump your mate. So watch out !!! This is one of those stories that you will keep for re-reads later.

I love Kresley Cole and couldn't wait for this book to come out. I was pretty disappointed. It seemed very slow. I loved Neomi but I really wasn't too crazy about Conrad. Maybe I just like Lykaes better that tortured vamps? Sadly her next book Dark Desires After Dusk was just as meh. I could take it or leave it. To many books are being written, I wish Kresley would slow down and take her time. Her next one is out Jan of 2009, lets hope it's better. Kiss of a Demon King.

Loved this story. Refreshing idea and great twists. The author did a great job creating characters you will fall in love with, have the connection with their emotions, and care what will happen to them. If you are one, who loves paranormal with a ghost and vamp theme then look no further you will enjoy this one, and believe me I don't say nice things or give five stars that often.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Kresley Cole, so I was ravenous to get my hands on the book. I finished it in one night! While it wasn't my favorite book in the series to date, it was a good satisfying read! I loved seeing the characters from the other books show up throughout the story, and it made it so much more involved I enjoyed it immensely! I cant wait for the next in the series, June cant come fast enough!

The idea for this book was pretty good and definitely different, but there just wasn't enough romance or plot going on. A ghost that can't even touch her man doesn't make for quality steaminess... and the couple kind of fumbled around, and not even physically, until the end then wham, bam, thank you ma'am, it was over. I don't know about you, but I read romance for better than real life romance and lovin', and what was there was pretty much tepid and didn't come on line until more than half way through the book. Maybe if she could have used telekinesis for more than stealing trinkets?... Give me more romance! Please!

Without a doubt, Kresley Cole is my most favorite author. She never ceases to amaze me with her well thought out stories of intriguing mythical creatures. Each character is so much different from the next that you can't help but become captivated with each book and fall in love all over again. I never dreamed that some of the things that happened in this story could ever occur! Thank you Kresley for opening my mind up to the wonderful world of lore! :)

For those following the series, this book will not disappoint. For those readers just picking up Cole's works for the first time, you should prepare to purchase the rest of the series. Cole builds a fabulous world that is easy and delightful to learn. I rank Cole's series right up there with J.R. Ward's Brotherhood series and Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series.

Do not be turned off at the thought of a ghost as a romantic lead! Having been burned in the past by other authors on this score, I was initially skeptical. But Cole does an excellent job of leaving both the reader (and characters!) not just satisfied but very happy with the ending. 'Dark Needs At Night's Edge' offers a fresh twist to her IAD series and is an excellent addition.

I actually would give this a 2.5, not a three, but I rounded up.
First off I really love Kresly Cole, and will probably buy more of her books in the future, but this one just didn't really work. If felt forced. It started off with a great premise and I was actually looking forward to it, but as it progressed I stopped caring.
You have the leading man, who is insane in the beginning, a killer, blood thirsty, horrible, and misunderstood. You expect a change in him for the better, which happens, but in matter of pages, not chapters. There wasn't a slow progression towards sanity, so that when it happened it seemed fake. Also, Cole included many of the characters from the other books, which is fine, but they kinda took over towards the end in an annoying way.
The majority of this book seemed to be people explaining the world around them. I could have use a couple of refresher pages, but not chapters. The last chapter, which is normally the chapter where the lovers bask in their happiness, this one was pages of explanation of how the heroine lived through another endeavor.
Overall it was not a pleasing read, but won't stop me from reading the next book she puts out.

As much as I like Kresley Cole's writing style, this book had too much angst on the heroine's side. We get to hear about her adventurous, take charge side but not much evidence is given once she decides to take matters in her own hands. This is still one of my favorite series' and Cole is still one of my favorite writers, but this was not the strongest story in the series.

I'm going to make my review of this book short. Great read in my opinion. It kept my interest the whole way through, the characters were well developed and its a sweet romance. I'm looking forward to the next book. Even if you haven't read her books, thats all right you'll be able to understand whats going on. But totally her other stuff, its great. Mrs. Cole leaves the reader wanting more and guessing, doesn't get any better than that. Go get this book, you'll enjoy it with hot chocolate.

This is the best installment in the series! I was a little skeptical about bodiless heroines, because I've been burned before and we all know by whom! But, I can honestly say this was a good romance novel it has the dark and brooding hero, humor, suspense and a strong heroine. Now I haven't read a non-paranormal romance in years and this book is one of the reasons why. No slight against them. But, there's nothing like reading about a sexy vampire. I can't wait for Cade and Holly's story.

I must have read the wrong book because frankly, I totally disagree with the masses. I waited months and months for this book anticipating a great story only to be seriously let down. This book just didn't have the same writing style as the others and the main characters lacked that certain "something". It was difficult to get into Conrad and Neomi. And even though the supporting characters were appealing, the main characters were unexciting. Simply not a good book and certainly not a keeper. Unfortunately, that's the thing about series...they [books] can't all be good!!! I'll just have to wait for Murdock's story and hope it was as good as Sebastian's and Wroth's

Another fun read from Kresley Cole. It kept me interested as a ghost and vamp are an unusual combination. A few appearances from familiar characters enticed me to buy this one (Nix and the demon brothers). I did feel a bit dissapointed as this book didn't further the overall story as much as I hoped.
A good read but maybe not a keeper.

I love it. I love all of Kresley Cole's books. This one is no different she leaves in a few little tidbits for the next book tucked away in each book. And the guy on the cover just looks like you could just eat him up or as Nix says "lick em".

I read the first book in this series and was hooked. I was so dissappointed through out this read. The first hundred pages were truly a bore, I contiued because I was stuck at the hospital with nothing else to do. The romance is a very slow start with two challenging characters. Not as hot an steamy as her first book.
