The lion is a little pussycat. I agree with one of the other reviewers.
We die hard fans deserve a do over. What happened to Jonas? Unbelieveable.
Feehan got kicked off my auto-buy list after Hidden Currents which, I never
finished btw. Yet I still had high hopes for Jonas story. He should have
went out with a ROAR instead we got just a little whimper. Pissed is not the word for what I'm feeling. Heat what Heat?
How about some luke warm milk for the little kitty.
Good Luck with your next book Ms.leigh You are going to need it. That's strike 3 btw. No longer a die hard.

I would of loved this book if I had never read about Jonas in previous books. Leigh took a yummy alpha male and sucked out his fire and passion. I felt no real heat between Jonas and Rachel. Rachel came off as bratty and uncaring of Jonas. She viewed herself as being impish when she discounted Jonas physical pain due to the mating heat. Mrs. Leigh, you cheated me and your other readers with this book.

Jonas Wyatt. The Bogeyman of the Breeds. He deserves this title and so much more, but his only guilt is his never-ending journey of fighting for the rights and happiness of breeds around the world. For years he has fought to keep himself in control and project the persona expected of him. This hard won control comes to an end the minute Rachel Broen steps into his office as his new personal assistant. And she is pregnant by another man.
The minute Jonas smells Rachel's scent, he knows she is his mate - later, tests confirm this information as well, but he keeps this to himself. While he silently aches to take Rachel in his arms and mate her, Jonas knows that he has to give Rachel the chance. When her daughter is placed in danger, Rachel demands that Jonas help her. And help her he will, right into his home and his heart.
Mesmeric. That is the perfect synonym to describe the effect Lion's Heat had on me. Jonas has always been a favorite of mine - he is snarly, alpha, and growls and I love every single cell in his body. However, he is so much more than just what is on the outside. In his heart he is a brother, a son, a mate, and a father. He strives to put his time in the labs behind him, but his experiences shaped the man he is today and that man deserves happiness and the love of a good woman. Rachel is that woman. She keeps his appointments, she runs his office, and she rules his heart. But most importantly, she loves him. She loves him unconditionally, and that is exactly what Jonas needs.
If you read no other Lora Leigh penned novel this year, please read Lion's Heat. Lion's Heat is the novel that Jonas Wyatt needed and I quite happily Joyfully Recommend it. I couldn't put it down and I have since read it two more times. It is phenomenal.

So many books and so many breeds. All alpha, ferocious and courageous and all not as alpha and ferocious as Jonas. How could Lora Leigh forget? Jonas was the Iceman.....he would have needed a woman with so much more fire. Instead Rachael was his Kryptonite. Where was the Jonas that we mostly hated yet revered? Will I continue to read the next one...of course, for the plight of the breeds is so compelling.

This book is so full of emotions and we can see here the real Jonas! I loved Rachel cause she's a very strong persona. She might me not a breed but seriously, show me another woman who confronted Leo and won! Too many characters don't like Jonas cause they see only his manipulations and never beyond cause yes, he's manipulating but it's always for their own benefit , and it's really sad that not only the characters never see it but a lot of readers too. Loved Jonas from the beginning in Sherra and Kane's book, he's a very special person who takes care of everyone saves their lives all the time risks his and never says a word about their attitude toward him. Just my personal hero in those books :)

Unlike a lot of other readers, and presumably, reviewers, I never had a specific yearning re: Jonas. I just really like the Breed books, so I was hoping for a good one. And after Black Jack and Nauti Deceptions...I was really hoping for a good one.
I also think that with a long series such as this people have their favourites and inevitably compare each new installment to the ones they loved the most. My personal faves were Tanner's Scheme, Aiden's Charity and Mercury's War. The reason I bring this up is I was pondering what it is about those books that makes me love them and what I find a little lacking in Lion's Heat.
***Possible Spoilers***
In general, I did like this book; its a little lighter than previous ones, and we really do not get to know Rachel very well and maybe Jonas is a light version of himself, but in general, the story is lovely: He loves her baby, has a connection with from before her birth and he nearly tortures himself because he does not want to be with her until she loves him.
Admittedly, there are some continuity issues, but they really are just nitpicks. So what if she's wearing a white long-sleeved black cardigan...I totally had one of those in the late 90s ;)
But when comparing this one with the ones I listed as my faves, its missing that struggle: the i-don't-want-to-love-you-even-though-you're-the-best-thing-to-ever-happen-to-me-and-isn't-it-just-beautiful-when-i-finally-realize-i-can't-and-don't-want-to-live-without-you struggle. It's those well written emotions that make or break a romance. Strangely, neither Jonas nor Rachel really had that internal struggle, they sort of just fell into each other.
Also, and this is a biggie for me: the sex was not as hot as it usually is.
I agree with some of LL's harsher critics that she may be sacrificing quality for quantity. I think one solid, long book per year with a few novellas here and there is plenty if I can expect more like Mercury and Tanner and maybe, fingers-crossed a great Cassie book.

This book has it all, a fast convoluted plot line, a frustrated (with a good reason) love situation, multiple bad guys, a spy and a surprise ending. Luckily, I have already bought the next in the series. I'm going to read it now.

This book started out with all kinds of potential. In earlier releases, we had been introduced to Jonas, a breed that would do anything to protect the breed community, its members and their mates. Like many other readers, I had grown tired of the "Me Tarzan, you Jane" portrayal of the breeds in the last few books. I could see LL was going for the strong, quiet type, that can stand up to anything personality with Rachel's character and I personally was looking forward to a different spin on the relationship.
At first I thought Rachel and Jonas could be a nice fit, but the further I read the less I liked either character. Jonas, who was initially portrayed as strong, dominant, lethal was changed to a sensitive, tolerant, loving personality. Really !!! I suppose that's why he was known for dropping people into volcanoes and slashing them with his claws?
Rachel, on the other hand, was quiet to the point of being non-reactive and showed a self-centered side that I found unbecoming of a breed mate, especially Jonas'.
There were numerous editing errors which distracted from the enjoyment of the story line.
Also, what's with the baby transporting herself from place A to place B? LOL "Beam me up Scottie!!!"
On a positive note I greatly enjoyed the action scenes in the book and found them to be much more believable and intertaining than the ones in Bengal's Heart. There were many twists and turns in the book which readers will enjoy. New characters are introduced and show great potential. I do, however, wish authors would stop giving specific character information in previous (lead to ) books, just to totally negate said details when that character's book is released. This only causes confusion on the readers part, and in my opinion, weakens the character.
I gave this book a 3 1/2 to a weak 4 because of the great action scenes and the interaction between the Leo and Jonas. I do wish that more verbal sparring had taken place between the main characters and the unmated breeds. Where was the humor? Where were the smirks and the rib teasing jokes from the other breeds? Weren't tickets supposed to be sold for this Mating?
If humor, better editing, and stronger main characters had been added, this book would have been Great. Instead it's GREATLY LACKING !!!

Maybe it's because I'm not a diehard fan that I like this book so much. I had only really read the last two books on Harmony and Tanner because previous Breed books--I don't know--totally creeped me out? Dominance, destiny, fated soul mates, etc., not really my cuppa' tea. I like my brains and my choice to walk away if I bloody well choose, biology or not. For that reason watching the male lead squirm and realized he needs to prove himself to his capable female lead brought me as many smiles as it did the lead male character. Working, a little challenge and the ability to override some biological imperatives brought a sweetness that I hadn't glimpsed before. Also--no spoiler but I really loved the last page "preview of coming attractions". Not purrfect--nothing is--but close enough in creative story telling, innovative world building that I enjoyed it, recommend this story. Future stories--we'll see.

Followers of this series have been waiting on Jonas' story for forever it seems and they will not be disappointed. I really liked how the author changes up qualities we have come to expect from breed matings and gives us a fresh look at their relationships. The author explains Jonas' history in a way that furthers the breed storyline as well as creates more questions. As the Director of Breed Affairs, Jonas has to make difficult decisions to ensure the safety of all breeds. His life is devoted to his job. He's not the most popular or likable breed but his personality is vital to the success of his job. His strength and arrogance are explained in this book, giving the reader important insight into his character. The very characteristics that cause many to dislike him are the traits that Rachel relies on and comes to respect. His control and integrity show us the depth of his emotions. Rachel is a strong woman who made a big mistake.
She is smart, capable, and honest three traits that complement Jonas' decisive personality. I loved how we are shown glimpses into Jonas' emotions that breathe life into his humanity. Both fight the inevitable which creates sexual tension unlike any I've ever read. Leigh is a master at writing gripping, emotional, and sensual sex scenes. Lion's Heat is a dynamic thriller with all the elements of a great romance. Fast-paced and exciting, this book is one that will linger in your memory. Highly recommended but be warned the ending leaves us with more questions that will take a generation to get answered. - Lisa Freeman

Lion's Heart, Bad A** Jonas and little Miss Rachael and sweet baby Amber.
I have read a few of Lora's book now and some have been upsetting and others have been amusing. This is my first of the breed books and I must say that I enjoyed it much more then I assumed I would. It was hot, funny, and at times touching. I like the ending. I really want to know what the scientist did to that baby so I'll be waiting for the next book.
After reading this book, I quickly picked up the other breed book I had purchased months ago and never read and that is Harmony's way. I will say that Lion's heart was better then Harmony's way but like most of her books that follow a series it's best to read them all because each one sheds just little light on all the characters.
I'm ordering the first three in the series immediately, Happy reading.

I have loved Jonas's character since he was first was introduced in the Breed series. I was so looking forward to this book. What a rip off!! Rachel was the worst heroine I have ever read about. Jonas is the quintissential alpha male; who, by all rights, should have an alpha female. I was expected a really great heroine for Jonas based on teasers that we have had in the past. I was hoping for someone like Ria in Mercury's War. Ria is smart, articulate, organized, sexy, strong; and yet, was still vulnerable. Instead, Lora Leigh gives him an emotionally and mentally immature idiot. I spent much of the book trying to figure out how old Rachel was. The best I could come up with is between 17-19 years old based on her reactions to Jonas and the other characters. What a disservice to Jonas, to give him a completely selfish girl for a mate. I guess Jonas doesn't rate getting a real woman!!! It was actually almost laughable that, at one point, Ms. Leigh tried to make Rachel into an encryption expert (it only lasted about 10 or so lines). What a joke!!! Most of the time, she came acrross like the dumbest human being on the planet.
This installment of the Breed Series may just be my last because I don't want to read anything about Rachel in future books.

Director of the Bureau of Breed Affairs Lion Breed Jonas Wyatt knows the only person who could bring him to his knees is his assistant, Rachel Broen. He realizes she is his mate, but refuses to act upon his need as she deserves better than him. Still he wishes he was the father of Rachel's baby daughter Amber instead of Devon, but is satisfied that the baby recognized his voice when she was still in the womb.
Philip Brandenmore of Brandenmore research kidnaps Amber as he plans to experiment on the infant to foster his goal of using Breeds to slow down aging in purebreds. Jonas rescues the baby, but not before she is injected with some unknown elixir. A raging Jonas, who believes in his soul that Amber is his child, goes berserk with plans of vengeance. However, keeping Amber safe comes first, so he moves his soulmate and "his" daughter into the Breed Sanctuary where he relocates to keep the two females he loves safe.
This is a great entry in the Breeds saga as readers get what we waited for as Jonas no longer can deny his feelings. The key to finally force him to accept the inevitable is not his kick-butt tiny mate, but her daughter; sired by someone else. With a major leap forward in the overarching series as well, fans fully appreciate Jonas turn to accept his mate, but will he also go against what is known of Breed and accept Amber too.

Okay, so these are no longer Elloras Cave Breeds, that's ok, I've still enjoyed them since the switch to Berkley. That said I think she tamed things down just a bit too much for my taste (that first kiss is a long time in coming). What I disliked was expecting a very alpha Jonas and being surprised at how mild mannered he was. Don't get me wrong, he still appears to be Jonas, but after the first 125 pages I was surprised he didn't "turn all alpha" and I began to grow a little frustrated. To some readers this is an enjoyable and delightful turn of events, but not to me.
I liked Rachael. In spite of a few moments here and there where I would have preferred she react differently I thought she was a likeable, strong character and I enjoyed the interaction between her and Jonas. I especially enjoyed her take charge manner after Jonas proved to be excruciatingly slow in mating with her.
The continuation of the storyline and plot was great, and though we were left with unanswered questions it just made me look forward to the next book.
Some have complained of editing issues, yes, they are there, but for the most part they didn't detract from the story and I don't judge a book on that, it's not the author, but the editor that should be shot.
All in all I did enjoy the book, lots to like in spite of my few disappointments

I like this author, so was really excited to buy this one. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Besides the many typos in the book, the story was totally lame, and the love scenes not so hot. With the characters this story involves, it really had the potential to be great, but sadly it is lacking. What a total waste of $7.99. I wish I could take it back.

Well, this was pretty much a let down, imo. I too, had high hopes for the male character Jonas. He had always been presented in previous books as mysterious, manipulative and wary. Well, he is all that but somehow...less, in this story. And Rachel is only OK. I couldn't help but wonder, "Did Lora Leigh really write this?". It was unpolished, scattered and abrupt. Is this really the same author who wrote "Elizabeth's Wolf"??? I must say that I'm not impressed.

I expected more from a book about the thorn in everyone's side. Jonas was shown as a strong alpha male along the same lines as his brother Callen, but his storyline was more beta than as he been previously portrayed.
I am waiting on the book that showcase Eli and her mate. Hopefully that one will be better.

Lora Leigh is one the best romantic authors around, with that being said, when she is not at the top of her game it is easier to notice than with other authors who do not produce her high caliber of writing. Her books Heat Seeker and Bengals Heart left me feeling like there were a piece of the puzzle missing and while they had aspects of the normal "lora leigh flair" there were times when I rewrote scenes in my mind to give it the emotional depth I felt the story deserved.
Most times you read a Lora Leigh book you end up being so engrossed in the story and feeling such an intense emotional connection to the characters that the story will literally stay in your mind for days. Now everyone whose read a Lora Leigh Breed book knows that this was the book we had been waiting for since the beginning of the series and that anything less than stellar from Ms. Leigh would not be accepted. I have to say with this in mind that she both met and exceeded my expectations for this book. I was able to feel Jonas's emotional turmoil, finally gain insight into his psyche and feel much more connected to the story than I had been when I finished reading Bengal Heart. Now is there room for more drama in the book that is a Lora Leigh staple (think the scene in Dawns Awakening where Seth holds her down on floor of the gym), absolutely, but did the absence of such a scene take away from my enjoyment of the book, no.
For those of who have felt like abandoning the ship after the last few books, I say stay on board and read this book because you will miss seeing Ms Leigh get her game back and finally show us some of that intensity we have been craving. The seamless way she integrates other threads into the story that had been left hanging from Harmony's Way through Bengals Heart makes the story a great jumping point for the rest of the series.

Don't get me wrong, I love this series, I was really looking forward to Jonas's story because of his strong character. I believe we got a better look at some of his reasons for his manipulations and who would have thought Jonas could be so gentle and caring to a baby. I was happy that Lora mentioned other characters from previous books such as Lance and Harmony, which was my favorite breed book. BUT the story is the same old same old, I agree with other reviews. It would be nice to have more info on the backgrounds of the charachters, revisit some old characters and have more information on the special teams such as Ghost Team. I am always ready for the next book in the series, I dont think my disappointment in this book will change that.

Yes, there were editing problems in this book. And, yes, Rachel was not the alpha female that some feel that Jonas needed. However, I really liked this book, and I think the way that these two mates came together was TOTALLY HOT. One of the hottest Lora Leigh books that I have read (about 30). I though Rachel was a real person, someone who had built up their defenses because of abandonment and in order to survive. She was one cool cookie, and Jonas had to go way above and beyond in order to seduce her. I really liked seeing this side of Jonas, and I think it was so much better that he had to work hard to bring his mate around to the idea of being his mate. Jonas is so dominant that he needed someone as completely cool with their emotions as he was. When they got together, WOW!!!

I'm one of those readers who HATED the last couple of books Lora Leigh has put out, because of their repetative dialogue and plot points, and supremely bad editing. (Both Breed series and Elite Ops.) Del Ray was one I had so looked forward to, but was very disappointed in. I was afraid she'd do the same thing with Jonas. But this turned out to be a story I just couldn't put down.
First, as a previous reviewer said, Jonas gives Rachel the choice of being with him. He actually doesn't want to give her the mating hormone, wanting her to have free will to actually fall in love with him instead. So, we don't have a book filled with more the same fights about mating heat vs. free will and being "drugged" with the mating hormone, and all that. Those argument scenes were getting very repetative in book after book after book. I'm so glad this was a different kind of story line!
There's some of the "You need to stop over protecting me, I want to make my own choices" stuff, but not a lot of arguments there. The H/h actually work well together and when she argues with him, she's more amused than angry at his alpha-male stuff. That was a refreshing change.
I didn't find the Heroine whiney at all. Not like Del Ray's mate, thank God!
One thing I didn't like, was that we are supposed to believe that Jonas never was cold-blooded, he just put on a facade. Come on! In a previous Breed book, he scratched a man's face to ribbons with his claws while interrogating him. Suddenly, when Johnas is the main character of the book, there is none of that behavior anymore. It was all just a "facade"? That was a little disappointing. Lora Leigh has a bad habit of doing that: Giving secondary characters unique personalities that she doesn't follow through with when they become H/h.
The editing errors were not as bad this time as the last book. I did notice the same things that previous reviewers noticed: People seem to know things, then they don't, then they're back to knowing about it again, and other problems like that. But not as big a deal as forgetting the name of the Heroine as in a previous book!
The sex scenes weren't the hottest thing ever, either, but that's just a personal preference about what makes a "hot" scene.
But despite the problems, it was still one of the best Lora Leigh stories I've read in quite a while.

Through the first half of this book, I understood where everyone was coming from, with the opinion that Rachel was emotional and slightly unstable. Suddenly, halfway through the book, she changed, and loved him with all her heart, not hiding from him or denying her desires or feelings. It was just kind of random.

This book shows the true man in Jonas that only his true mate could recognize. The story displays all Jonas's strengths, weaknesses, fears and disappointments that you never see in him as the "Boogeyman". Rachel softens him to the point where he becomes his very best all around. He reveals secrets of his parentage and accepts his family ties. You also learn more of his relationship with his sister Harmony. Overall you learn so much about Jonas that you can't help but understand him.

Well the reviews differ wildly on this book, here is my 2 Cents worth. I liked the softer side of Jonas, I think it was done well, we all know he was being manipulative and hard for a very good reason to protect the breeds and get his enforcers mated with some semblance of happiness, his methods just made you want to circumzise him in his sleep sometimes. The best part of the book, was the interaction of the Leo and Jonas (Harmony's Way is one of only 2 breeds books that I have not read and there were a lot of references to it, so I was lost completely over those points from that book.)
Coming from a long line of Alpha Male types in law enforcement and working in a military/law enforcement environment, the biggest and baddest fall the hardest and when they change it is usally profoundly, for better or worse.
Rachel was a good match for Jonas, but her characterization was not consistent. I loved her backbone with Jonas and the Leo and Ely (but from one chapter to the next Ms Leigh seemed to contradict Rachel in the same sentence (ex. to Jonas who has done nothing but protect her and her child, she accused him of getting ready to give her child away, and in the same sentence said she new he wouldnt, I had a WTF moment when I read that and several like it).
Where was Jackal? Jonas body guard, he should have been more prominent in the book, even as he was newly assigned to guard Ely. This should have been his showcase as well since he was always with Jonas in other books. A few too many new characters were introduced. And as each was introduced the were each described as the baddest, and then the next was the baddest, then the next was the baddest???)
And oh the editing errors, that is ridiculous and unexceptible in this day and age, if they hit F7, spell check and a thesaurus will come up.
I do agree that there was not as much excitement in this book as others that is why the lower stars. And sadly yes it is more of the same from Leigh. Some of the story lines need to be resolved, some were unnecessary, you should not need to go back 6 books to figure out what is going on.
In this series some books I did not like, some were OK and some I loved. I DID NOT like Kane/Sherra - Tanner/Scheme's books. I loved Mercury's Warrant and Coyote's Mate, they will be re-read until the pages disentegrate.

I had so hoped the story of Jonas would be great. But what do we get? Another retread! It is the same story over and over now with Leigh. Alpha male attracted to weakling woman!!! Did not Jonas at least deserve a woman with more of a backbone??? No, we got same old, same old. How about an adventure outside of Sanctuary??? How about a woman that accepts mating heat and actually likes it!!!!!! How about a woman who just refuses all those damn tests and knows mating heat is to be enjoyed not dreaded and feared!!!!!! How about a woman who can't wait to give a Breed the family they have always wanted????? I could go on but you get my point. I think Leigh needs a vacation and some insipration.

I am an avid Breeds fan and a Jonas fan from the word go so this book is an absolute disappointment. As far as I can tell from the way Ms Leigh treated Jonas in this highly anticipated book, she and her publisher saw this for the "cash cow" that it was. Why bother writing even a decent story when fans are going to buy it anyway. I would almost have preferred Jonas die fighting the Council than be stuck with a life sentence like Rachel as a life mate. Like several other fans/reviewers I would like a "do over". Some neat plot twist that Ms. Leigh actually put some thought into. We can only hope. In the meantime my hard earned book budget is better spent on better written books. At least the cover was good. I'll just have to give Jonas the lifemate he deserves in my imagination. I know that authors have the right to do whatever they want with characters they create, but alittle justice here. This book could have been excellent, but doesnt come anywhere near it's true potential. Too sad.

I love and own all the books in the Breed Series and when I found out Jonas's book was next and I was so excited. Then I read it and it felt like something was missing. I had no sense of excitment or thrill that I associatte with this series. Jonas completely suprised me, I expected alot more gruffiness and I am the alpha attitude, Racheal I enjoyed very much she is just what he needed when he did actually act like he was all that and a bag of potato chips. The story line was okay I expected way more espinoge, blazing bullets and things blowing up. Also a whole lot more clues on what was going to be going down in other books yet to come.I just felt it was missing the punch that the others in this series has. I cant wait for the next one though. Still a huge fan just a little let down.

As someone who just started reading Lora Leigh's Breed series in 2010, I was worried about how I would relate to this book. Unlike most fans, I haven't had years to get to know Jonas' character, and frankly, from what I'd learned about him from reading the entire series back-to-back, I wasn't sure if I cared enough about him as anything other than "the man I loved to hate" to read a book based on his life. To me,Jonas was a mini tyrant with a God complex who abused his power to manipulate and control. Reading this book showed me he was far more human than I'd ever given him credit for being.
Unlike many of the Breeds who focus more on dominance and control (both inside the bedroom and out), Jonas Wyatt actually believes in love! He's seen what the forced mating heat has done to all the other females, and he wants to save Rachel, his mate, from that. Due to issues in his past with his biological parents, Jonas also needs Rachel to choose him and acknowledge his role in her life. For her to do this, her commitment to him must be a conscious choice instead of one based on biology. Jonas is actually willing to give Rachel the chance to fall in love and accept their relationship. Or not.
Besides being concerned about the unfairness of forced mating heat, Jonas also knows that with his job, his mate will be targeted most of all, so he wants to protect Rachel from all the death threats and machinations being his mate would involve. Once Amber, Rachel's baby, is taken, Jonas realizes that even though Rachel and Amber will be targeted BECAUSE of him, they will still be safer WITH him.
As soon as this realization hits, he does everything within his power to get Amber back and to protect his ready-made family.
Many people have mentioned they expected more hazing of Jonas by the other Breeds since he has been so instrumental in their matings, but the seriousness of Rachel and Amber's situation creates a setting that would be inapproriate for this kind of light-hearted banter. Who could possibly crack a joke after an innocent baby's life and future health have been threatened?
Learning WHY Jonas has been so involved in everyone else's matings was enlightening. Once the author reveals that Jonas encourages the matings to show the Breeds who have survived the horrors of the labs that life is worth living, my eyes were opened and I realized the petty tyrant of the past books has grown into a man who will move heaven and earth to create a world where all Breeds cannot only live in peace, but they can live in love.

Like so many others, I was SO disappointed with this book. It seems as though Lora is bored w/ the series and is only writing them b/c she has to fulfill her contract - like Sherrilyn Kenyon and her DH series. There's no point in rehashing what everyone has written, but please, just go get it from the library. Don't waste your $$.

Loved it! Finally, the much anticipated story about Jonas is here - and it was even better than I could have imagined. Rachel and Jonas were a perfect pair.Rachel has been Jonas's personal assistant for a few months. During this time Rachel has proven to be very efficient at handling Jonas's schedule and putting up with his arrogant and manipulating ways. Jonas knew as soon as he saw Rachel that she was his mate but he refuses to claim her because he is afraid she would be targeted by his many enemies and because she is pregnant. Jonas claimed Rachel's baby as his own (without her knowing of course) and was able to feel the baby's emotions and make a connection with little Amber. One night a group of men burst into Rachel's house and take her baby. One of the Breeds enemies had taken the baby and injected her with an unknown substance. Jonas and his
team are able to save Amber from being kidnapped, so they fly to Sanctuary for safety.
Once at Sanctuary, Jonas and Rachel have their hands full with finally dealing with the fact they are mates and with figuring out what happened to the baby. Jonas wants to give Rachel the choice of being with him, so he willingly endures the pain of unrelenting mating heat because he wants Rachel to come to him out of love. Rachel is very confused at all the changes in her life but knows that she and Jonas have something special. Will Jonas find the love he never dared dream about? Will Rachel put poor Jonas out of his horny misery?
Wow, this was one heck of a book! I loved the thrill of reading this story, it was so exciting. Jonas was one of the sweetest mates ever. He gave Rachel time to grow to love him and choose him at great cost to himself. He was so sweet with baby Amber, he loved her so much and he purred for her (awwww). Rachel was a compassionate and wonderful woman who understood who Jonas really was underneath all the games he played. She saw the love and loyalty he gave to his Breed brothern and the sacrifices he made to keep them safe, but she still kept him in line when he tried to pull anything with her. Rachel and Jonas complimented each other very well, she managed to show him how to deal with the emotions he didn't know how to show. The love scenes were scorching too!
There were many scenes concerning the Breeds and Sanctuary so we get to learn more about our old friends from other books.
Lion's Heat was one of my favorite Breed books! I loved it and highly recommend running to read it! The action is exciting and the romance is amazing! Jonas is one heck of a hero and mate to Rachel, plus he is a wonderful father to Amber. Rachel is a strong and capable woman who doesn't bring Jonas to his knees - she lifts him up by showing him the strength of his love and honor.

I'm sorry I have to disagree with all these other readers who say the book is like the rest. This book was the best one so far and was beautifully written.Jonas is very tender and loving which is not usual as he is a calculating manipulator.Rachel was a perfect match for him and the sex scenes are scorching!! I don't want to give anything away but this novel I loved the best!!

Jonah Wyatt ... what can I say. -pants- Lora Leigh did a great job with Jonas' book. I was hoping she would knock it out of the park with his book and she did a fabulous job. Another great twist to the breeds story. I loved the intro of more breeds too. Rachel is the perfect heroine to Jonas. I loved how she stood her ground with not only him but all the other breeds as well, especially The Leo. You can feel the love growing between them, the heat, the possession and complete surrender. I am of the opinion that I hope this series never ends.
Do not miss this one ladies ... she does not disappoint with Lion's Heart.
I'm still waiting on Cassie's story.

I really enjoyed this book. I my opinion it was more along the lines of the first breed novels which were also Lora Leigh's best. The story line was great and set us up for upcoming books which hopefully will address the cliffhanger. I loved seeing Jonas in this new role and he did not disappoint, and you just had to like him even more. Revisiting with a lot of the earlier characters was also very nice.
I don't think you can go wrong purchasing this book because Lora Leigh proved with this one that she still has it, and even though Bengal's heart was a disappointment, she really redeemed herself with Lion's Heat.
Overall a great read!

This is not really a review of the book since I just had to go out and purchase the actual book copy of this book. I just wanted to state that could of been avoided if the Kindle version of this book was available. And no amount of me clicking, " Tell the publisher you would like this Book in Kindle format" is not going to get me the book any sooner. So upon waiting months for this book to be available. And then clicking on previous mentioned link for over a week thinking if I waited a little bit more the book will be available for Kindle format. That did not come to fruitation. I suggest that everyone get thier act together in whether or not all or no books will be available for Kindle. Because I am an avid reader. And there is absolutely no way I can fit another book shelf or place boxes of books in my basement.

Jonas Wyatt. His name is synonymous with many things, some too foul to mention in polite company. The director of the Bureau of Breed Affairs has made many enemies since becoming one of the head of the breed world but Jonas doesn't care. He fights endlessly for the breeds and while most of them sneer and cuss him, they owe their freedoms and some even their lives this authoritative man.
A busy and powerful man must have an efficient personal assistant and the problem Jonas is encountering is the fact that most of his secretaries quit within one week. Rumor has it that he is so demanding he can bring even the most hardened breed female to tears. It is because of this knowledge that Merinus, devoted wife to Callan and Prima of the feline breeds, decides that enough is enough. Jonas needs a new PA that he won't be able to fire - Rachel is one of Merinus' closest friends. Gritting his teeth and trying not to bellow, Jonas has no choice but to accept his new assistant. His new pregnant assistant - Rachel. However, with one subtle sniff of the woman in front of him, Jonas confirms what tests prove - Rachel is his mate. Jonas refuses to even think about touching her no matter how much he aches for the feel of her hands and the softness of her lips. His Rachel will never go through mating heat.
Jonas should never say never because with one man's quest for answers to mating heat and all that it entails, the people Jonas cares about the most are placed in danger. His control is barely hanging on as it is and when he sees tears in his mate's eyes Jonas knows he will do anything to keep her and her baby safe - even if it means exposing her to mating heat.
I knew with all my heart that LION'S HEAT, Jonas Wyatt's book would need to be written in such a way as to set itself apart from the other books in Lora Leigh's BREEDS series. LION'S HEAT does this and so much more. Readers will be given a chance to look inside the heart of a lion and see the wonderful man underneath. LION'S HEAT made me realize that the outer shell of a person may not always be the correct condition of their soul. Jonas Wyatt wears a mask day in and day out while his inner thoughts, yearnings, and desires are vividly hidden. Until Rachel.
There is nothing simple or boring about LION'S HEAT. Jonas carefully plans his machinations but rest assured, his mate Rachel knows exactly what he is doing and her anticipation of his needs is what endeared her to me. She isn't a wimpy mate by any means - Rachel isn't afraid to give Jonas what for but she does it in such a way that makes her strong, intelligent, and gutsy to the bone. Jonas may be her mate but she will stand on her own two feet and become the woman that Jonas needs in his life.
LIONS HEAT is without a doubt my favorite Lora Leigh release to date. This novel flows very easily with plot twists and turns, old and new questions are solved and asked, and Jonas finds the other half of his heart. I couldn't have asked for anything more for this beautiful man. Unable to mention the love scenes without blushing, know that there are heady, soul-stirring, and mesmerizing. Jonas' ability as a master manipulator is over the top; his ability as a lover and mate is something worth watching and relishing with every breath.
If I had not been in love with Jonas before, I would definitely be in love with him now. LION'S HEAT will caress you senses, open your eyes to new possibilities, and make you purr with sweet satisfaction. I still haven't recovered!

After reading all the books in this series, Jonas story was very captivating. From the very beginning he is portrayed as scary, uncaring and very manipulataive but with Rachael his true self comes out. Even though he is very Alpha he also has a very loving side and we learn that he does the things he does because he wants to protect the Breeds and make a better life for all of them. For those of you reading this book as your first I suggest you invest in the other books of this series you will not be disappointed.

I love Lora Leigh. Have reread everything over and over. Have waited for this book for eons. This book was good, but, THIS BOOK IS ABOUT JONAS!!! I mean come on. Where is the WOW Factor. I was hoping this would have the depth, emotion and as many erotic scenes as Wild Card..I was so hoping this book would be as moving, but even though it was good it wasn't Excellent. It needs more suspense and more hotness, parts were just boring. This book was a let down. It was missing something. Just plain disappointed.

As in a previous review, the editing just flat sucked! If you can get past all those ( and there are MANY ), Jonas falls and falls hard. He is much more patient than some of the other males in previous books. And, the scenes with Amber are so touching. I'm hoping Ms. Leigh is listening and cares enough to do something about her editing problems.
The publisher canceled the ebook release and that is just a pile of ....! Guess they want everyone to go out and purchase a paperback copy instead of purchasing the ebook. If it continue's to happen, I'll be contacting the publisher and Ms. Leigh.

It was wonderful to finally get a complete picture of Jonas. Ms. Leigh certainly picked out the right mate for him. Rachel, she is strong, intelligent and no pushover. In other words my kind of gal. Her and the newborn daughter she has shows Jonas's softer side. However, make no mistake Jonas is still hell on wheels. He will do whatever it takes to protect the breeds, a true Alpha male.

I was so excited to read this book and it was very boring. Not even the love scenes made it worth my time. I don't know about you guys, but I don't want them to find a cure for the mating heat......that's what kept me reading Breed books!! It wasn't written from the heart but just because she had to..it was due. At least that's what it seems like. Jonas was a wuss....very loving and caring and bla bla bla....yawn

Jonas's story is so very different from any other breed novel, and spectacular! I don't want to give any secrets away, but WOW! Talk about a shake up. I have read all of Lora Leigh's books and this was easily one of my favorite. Jonas, big bad Breed manipulator, has finally found his mate, and his match. Unfortunately for him, she is just as stubborn and just as determined to have her way as he is. Add in a baby that is under attack and friends who can't mind their own business and you have a recipe for AWESOME!!!

I really like Lora Leigh, but since this book is neither on Kindle nor really the recipient of very good reviews, I don't know if I'll try it. Coyote's Mate was my favorite, but the one about the Bengal wasn't all that great. There seems to be a not so great trend in this series right now. I've read a bit of this paperback at Target, and the ending seems a bit frenetic, but I think I'll buy it just to make sure I'm not missing out on anything really awesome.

With athletes who are no longer at the top of their game and refuse to give up the ghost...so goes Ms Leigh, who indeed, should put down her pen. More of the same is right, only worse. How she could do this to Jonas who, although not the main character in other breed books, was still portrayed as a supreme alpha male, the master manipulator, ruthless to a fault. What she's done to this character is nothing less than criminal and so beyond my comprehension. And for heaven's sake, someone that strong-willed, that hardhearted deserves a mate who is his equal, not this character. She is just as bad, if not worse, then Coyote Del Rey's mate, whiny and second guessing...it was enough to just say "enough already, I get it; you don't want to mate with him; move the hell on". Jonas would have been better suited with the sister, Diana. At least she is kick-ass, which would have provided far better material. Then we could witness and be privy to the black ops, the covert actions of the place which Jonas is in CHARGE. I simply refuse to discuss my disappointment with the editing. Alas, it is finally time to give up on Ms. Leigh and the breed series. I'll re-read prior breed stories, Mercury, Kiowa, Dash, Callan, even Seth and Kane...and they aren't breeds, but their stories were a hell of a lot more interesting to read than Jonas'. I could care less whose story is next because if she couldn't get Jonas even half-way right, then there simply is no hope for the rest of them.

the store deleted my previous review so I'm submitting it again. Gave product 1 star since I can't get it on kindle. VERY disappointed with the publisher's decision to delay the kindle release. And yes, submitting a bad review because the publisher won't release the kindle version is a valid review. People submit bad reviews for other publishing actions like bad editing or poor indexing. I wouldn't submit this review on the B&N site, but the store, you SELL AND MARKET THE HELL OUT OF THE KINDLE, SO DON'T DELETE MY REVIEW!!!!!
Please RateLion's Heat (A Novel of the Breeds)
My favorite Breed books are Tempting the Beast, Soul Deep, Aidan's Charity, Tanner's Scheme, Megan's Mark, A Wolf's Embrace (A novella) and of course Mercury's War. I enjoyed these books because I loved the interaction between the Hero and Heroine. They were books that made me smile and I couldn't put down unlike Lion's Heat which had me gritting my teeth and trying not to throw it across the room in frustration as I kept hoping for it to get better. It never did.
