Semi-interesting characters but without a strong storyline to back it. There was too much physical intimacy than was needed. But it seemed like she did it to fill up the pages. This could've been a shorter novella actually. I wouldn't have stayed with the book till the end if it wasn't for Nalini Singh who happens to be my favorite author and creator of such strong characters and complex story lines. This one seemed weak and almost frivolous. :(

Once again I was BLOWN AWAY with the story line and the hot sizzling sex scenes written by my favorite romance author Nalini Singh. I can't say enough about Ms. Singh and her amazing and imaginative story plots. She had me hooked with the Psy Changling series until I had to read all the books in that series in the span of one month. Now I cannot wait for the next book coming out on the Rock Kiss Series. I am such a fan of this author and I wholeheartedly recommend all of her books to anyone who loves reading romantic and sizzling novels!
Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter Book 7) :: Bonds of Justice (Psy/Changelings) :: Rock Redemption (Rock Kiss Book 3) :: Archangel's Kiss (Guild Hunter Book 2) :: Shards of Hope (Psy-Changeling Novel, A)

I had really high hopes for this book and it wasn't bad but unfortunately I found it kind of boring. The second half of the book just seemed to keep repeating the same scene of little problems and lots of sex. I have no problem with books that have a lot of sex in them but there needs to be a story with it and this book fell short in my opinion. I don't think I'll be reading the next installment.

My Review:
This is a book that is tough for me to review. I determined at two different times early in the book that I would send the publicist a note saying "thank you, but I had to dnf it and can't do a review". Then I'd change my mind, give it another day, another chapter to get better and it would. That inconsistency in the story drove me nuts. There were times when I loved these two characters and their scarred souls, but then the way Singh wrote certain scenes, I was going "wtf?"

Molly had a traumatic event happen (which involved a huge media circus) during her adolescent years that left huge scars. (And I need to take just a moment to state that she tells you this over and over and over and over again throughout the first 25% of the book...OMG, that alone drove me batty.) But she's so drawn to Fox, rock star extraordinaire, that she decides that she can look past his fame and just have some rocking sex with him for a month. In her mental voice, we hear all the time about how she hates that he's a rock star and everything that symbolizes, but in the next breath she's calling him "her rock star" like an over-the-top fangirl...and I could almost forgive that at first, but it goes on way past the halfway mark when he should be a person in her mind, not the rock god. Ugh. And I'll admit that's just a couple of things that really bugged me about this book.

But there were other things that I truly loved. I loved the guys in the band and the family they have built for each other. Those guys are all equally complex and liked the glimpses of their story lines. I liked the way they all treated Molly with respect and helped to protect her. And overall, I enjoyed both of Molly and Fox's complex backstories. I think that their current story needed to be heavily worked on because it had promise but those little glimpses of what the story could be kept me reading. Eventually, I did enjoy the last 10% of the book and those final events. Finally, there was a heroine in Molly worth cheering for and Fox maintained the steadfast, caring guy he always was throughout the book. I loved him and no matter what their agreement, he always had bigger plans for him and Molly than he let on.

There was a minor section at the 85% mark where I wanted to beat Ms. Singh's editor for allowing it to remain...teasing of events happening off the page that were obviously going to be coming in another book, but if you aren't going to reveal, don't tease...especially in passive narration. UGH!

I'll be honest, if it wasn't for the author's name on this book, I would have dnf'ed it several times. Instead I stuck it out and in the end, I was happy that I did. But overall, it wasn't really a book that I'd recommend. Although it kicks off a promising series and I really did enjoy all the characters in this rock band, I probably won't be reading any of the other books.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This is the first book I have read by a Nalini Singh. I started it on Friday and the only reason I did not finish it on Friday is my iPad died. Fox is so damn hot. I love Molly's strength. It was great seeing them both picking up and rising from their pasts. I can not wait to read David and Thea's, and Charlotte and T-Rex's book. Noah and Abe are on my list too. If you want a hot, panty damping book, pick up this one!

For me this was too much of a departure from what I expect from Nalini. I get a little disappointed when authors change up their style so dramatically without letting us know I wish they would put a disclaimer out there. I applaud her for trying something new, but it's not to my taste. The sex is the plot there is no conflict no real story it's baby erotica. Her writing style and the connection between some of the characters is typical Nalini which means all that works beautifully. I guess I'm a prude because for me it's not romantic reading about two strangers to each having sex even if there is chemistry and they end up with a happily ever after.

Aah. The world of rock n roll. I did not know what to expect, except that I knew it would be amazing
Nalini has a gift to turn words into worlds
The age old love story, twisted into a modern fairy tale, is light, yet dark, fun, yet painful
Loved it. Mollie and Fox will be with me for a while
Thanks for sharing their story
Cannot wait for David's story or T-Rex.....

Nalini does not disappoint!! I would highly recommend this book to anyone. It's super sexy but with a side of sweetness. Nalini sure knows how to give you the perfect book boyfriend every time, and have you wishing he was real and most definitely yours. :)

I like Ms. Singh's books but I couldn't totally connect with the heroine. In fact she was unlikable at times. The book felt very basic at times. I can't quite put mY finger on why it felt incomplete at times.

What was this??? Certainly not the Nalini Singh that I would have expected based on her Guild Hunter Series. There is no real plot to drive this story, nor are the characters very interesting. Fox, yeah, maybe. I could see him... 6'4", sexy, edgy and gritty. But she held him back . I expected so much more from this book, the characters, the plot. It seems like she was attempting something more sexually explicit, it did not work. I enjoy erotica and feel she should have pushed her personal envelope a bit more. At times the story was even rather cheesy. I will not go into a synopsis of this book. I am totally uninterested in David and Thea's story.

Lest I forget to mention the heroine, Molly, she is rather annoying. I was so excited when I saw that Ms. Singh was going to do something different and step toward another genre. I did not even order my usual sample, nor did I read all the reviews. I will stop banking on a name and pay more attention to the readers' views, too, because looking at them now, I see many felt like me.

This book was too expensive. I almost returned it but kept trying to like it. I did finish reading it. No surprises, very little angst. If you want an awesome rock star read, see Beneath the Burn by Pam Godwin, or Alice Severin's Access All Areas.

Knowing what Nalini Singh can do to a plot line, and how she writes a totally different story from the 'maddening crowd', I was kind of dissaponted in this book. It is the usual rock star staple.

What I don't get, and I expected from a writer like Nalini Singh, is a substantive plotline.I am kind of tired of the lurid and tempting lifestyle of these rock gods. The heroine, Molly, was annoying sometimes. There is something to be said about Fox, he was kind of decent after he met Molly. He did not cheat on her, even though she was crying and sniffling that he did.

I am sure there will be stories about the other members of the band. Poor 'tortured souls' with mommy or daddy issues. Sheesh.
I wish we have at least half of the sex in this book in Raphael and Elena stories. My sex on wings archangel. (Guild Hunter series)
There was just too much sex in this book (I can't believe I will say that), to make it a credible solid read for me. The abrupt ending did not help also. It is a good story though, but it did not rock my world.

Excellent romance as always by Nalini Singh. This one set in the real world and my home country (not paranormal) and a refreshing change from her despite my love for her two other series. Everyone I've recommended her to has remarked on how good her books are. Be wary not to read certain parts in public (actually a vast majority of the book).

I didn't want to give it 2 stars but I needed to be honest and not swayed by my love for the Psy and Guild series. My biggest reason for the low rating is that nothing happens. Really. Its smooth and steady from the moment the characters meet. No angst, no drama. I mean Molly has a few moments where you give her the side eye but Fox would clear it up instantly leaving no room to build up any sort of emotion for either of them. I do like that it wasn't the typical over the top rockstar book but from Singh I expected to be hit between the eyes with the passion and love between the characters. I also thought that it a little hard to swallow that Molly up and left her whole life behind and moved to another country without much hesitation knowing her background and after knowing Fox for a limited amount of time. I think the reason this book is such a disappointment is because I felt like the author played it safe and tried to write the perfect "good" rockstar book instead of letting the story flow.

For a rockstar series that I found to be really exciting and with a different touch, try Kylie Scott's Stage Dive books

Very disappointing. This is no where near the quality of Singh's other books. (Several of which I love, love.) The writing style was stilted and tough to follow. The characters were so dull and flat that twice I checked who the author was again. This story rambles and drags and should have been a 120 page novella. Sadly I cannot recommend this book.

I'm a huge fan of rock band books. I love how the male lead in this story knew what he wanted from the get-go. Molly was a fantastic leading lady. Sexy and strong and standing with her man. I loved this book from start to finish.

I was disappointed as I was expecting better characterisation and more of a story line. Instead this was just soft porn. I wont purchase any more in the series, it is not what I have come to expect of Nalini Singh.

There are a lot of hackneyed, poorly written elements in Rock Addiction, such as telling instead of showing us how the leads feel, the hero thinking of the heroine like a child that needs to be trained, but do you know what really bothered me? The hero uses his hand on the back of the heroine’s neck to steer her, and this…

“Gripping her jaw, he said, “You don’t get to treat me as disposable.””

“He gripped her chin to turn her back toward him.”

“He watched her close the door, then imprisoned her against it by slamming his hands palms-down on either side of her body.”

“Grabbing her wrists, he pinned her arms above her head with one big hand. He gripped her chin with the other, the green of his irises violent and his breath hot against her skin…His fingers tightened on her wrists, his other hand curling around her throat…”

GET YOUR HANDS OFF HER!

It’s not sexy, it’s not passionate, it’s not romantic. The hero uses his physical strength to control and intimidate the heroine. Take your rock star clichés, your trite writing, and your “BUT EVEN IN HIS ANGER, HE HADN’T HURT HER” and never darken my Kindle again, Nalini Singh.

Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors so when I saw a new series, I ordered and preordered both of the available books. Well, book 1 has very little plot and I think the author is trying to emulate the "Shades of Gray" type of book. The book is horrible! If you just want a book of erotica with very little else, then this is for you. I want the books to have a story like the Angel series and the Changeling (Wolf/Cat) series. I don't mind steam, but I need something else ... like a story? I canceled book #2's pre-order. This series is not for me.

PJV Quickie: I really, really thought I was going to love this one – a new adult story featuring rock star bad boys written by Nalini Singh – ooohhh, this is right up my alley. Unfortunately, this one didn’t really work for me… although, I am VERY intrigued by the other boys in the band.

Review:
Zachary Fox is lead singer for the popular rock band ‘Schoolboy Choir’ (they met at a choir audition while away at school). He is at a party thrown by his label when he sees Molly Webster across the room and knows he must have her in his bed and in his life. Without speaking a word to her, he gets in the elevator with her as she is leaving, propositions her, and goes home with her for what Molly thinks is a one-night stand.

Because of a painful public scandal in the past, Molly has no intention of living life in the spotlight, but she can’t resist the promise of an amazing night with Fox, and even though she’s a virgin she knows she’ll never get another chance like this to break out of her boring, quiet shell, just this once.

~~~~~
I had to start this book twice. Even though I’m not usually bothered by ‘insta-love’, in this case I just didn’t find it believable, at all. I also had a hard time with the virginal heroine going home with a rock star for a night of crazy sex. It’s not as if they’d chatted at the party and hit it off, he literally got into the elevator and propositioned her because he couldn’t imagine not spending the rest of his life with her. So, I put it down and read a few other books and then came back to it.
I’m glad I read Rock Addiction, but not for the reasons you’d think. I didn’t feel the relationship between Fox and Molly; to me, they had no depth, no character growth, and no attraction between the two. There was lots of sex but no real conflict and honestly I found them a little boring. At about 62% in I realized that I was enjoying the story, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the first half of the book. That being said, I really like the secondary characters, and for that reason I will definitely be hitting up the second book in this series (I have no information about it yet). Fox’s bandmates, David, Abe, and Noah all have issues and back stories that I think are going to be good. Also, Molly’s BFF Charlie and her boss, affectionately nicknamed “T-Rex” have a pretty interesting not-yet-a-romance going on that I’d like to read more about too.
Recommendations:
If you like your rock-n-roll romance steamy and sexy, and don’t mind ‘insta-love’ as a plot device, you will probably enjoy Rock Addiction.
3.5 stars--ROCK ADDICTION is the first storyline in Nalini Singh’s new adult, contemporary Rock Kiss series focusing on the members of the American rock band Schoolboy Choir. This is sexy pierced and tattooed lead singer Zachary Fox and demure librarian from New Zealand Molly Webster’s storyline.
Told from close third person POVs, the focus of the storyline is the building relationship between Molly and Fox (as he likes to be called). For Fox there is an immediate attraction-a possessive pull where he instantly knows that Molly is ‘his’. His response is visceral and within a matter of a few minutes, Fox stakes his claim with the other members of the band. Molly on the other hand is a shy, quiet, librarian with low self-esteem and no confidence, whose goal in life is to remain out of the public eye. A horrendous childhood has left Molly with a fear of the media. Molly promises herself one wild night of passion but Fox has something more permanent on his mind. With only one month to claim Molly as his own, Fox fights an uphill battle every time Molly’s inner voice reminds her of their limited time together.
Molly is a naïve, twenty four year old whose history with men is limited and virtually non existent, and in this her emotional reactions were confusing for the reader as well as the new man in her life. There was something almost bi-polar with Molly’s personality when it came to her emotional maturity or lack thereof; or perhaps it was her painful and continuous revelations about her inexperience with men. Numerous misunderstandings and jealous rages seem to be the highlight of Molly’s days. Molly’s past issues control her choices at work and at play.
Zachary Fox is no longer the typical bad boy of rock and roll-he doesn’t drink or do drugs; and there have been no women in his bed for a very long time but that’s not to say he didn’t enjoy the lifestyle before. His early years have also left him with some baggage but he has grown to accept that he cannot change what has happened in the past-but make no mistake, Fox is not without a temper and when he doesn’t get his way, he makes his feelings known. The combination of Fox’s rock and roll lifestyle and experience, and Molly’s naivety did not make for happy bedfellows especially in the early stages of the storyline. Fox is a man who is determined to make their relationship work but Molly’s emotional drama is sometimes too hard to handle.
The relationship is one of insta love/lust especially for Fox. The sex scenes are numerous and frequent. Our couple spent more time having sex than getting to know one another. If their attraction is purely physical, how can a happily ever after be on the horizon? Even our heroine questions if there is anything beyond sex for the couple.
The secondary characters are colorful but stereotypical including the other members of Schoolboy Choir (David, Abe and Noah). We are introduced to Molly’s sister Thea who does PR for the band; and Molly’s best friend Charlotte who is always a phone call away every time Molly’s self esteem takes a dive.
The world building follows the members of Schoolboy Choir on the road, behind the scenes, their private lives and run-ins with the paparazzi and the law. There is the drama of jealousy, addiction and a horde of groupies at every opportunity as well as a hint of what is to come.
ROCK ADDICTION is an entertaining storyline with a HEA but a storyline that fell a little short of my expectations. Nalini is an amazing author of the paranormal but it did not translate well to a contemporary, new adult storyline.
I was so excited to hear Nalini Singh started a new series and even more excited that it was a New Adult series! "Rock Addiction" is the first book in her "Schoolboy Choir" series. This story centers around the lead singer of the popular Schoolboy Choir rock band, Zachary Fox, and librarian, Molly Webster.
From the beginning, I was hooked! Fox saw Molly across the room with a bright smile on her face. He immediately was captivated by her and knew he wanted to be with her. Molly attended this event with her sister, Thea, who is the manager of Fox's band. Molly never expected a hot and popular rock star to take notice of her much less be interested in her.
Fox and Molly were hot! They had an immediate connection. They couldn't just have a 1 night stand, so they agree to continue seeing each other for the remainder of the month while Fox's band is in New Zealand. But what happens after that 1 month is up? Well, they realize this is more than just a hook-up -- their feelings for one another is stronger than ever, and they want to really give their relationship a chance.
Fox takes Molly with him and his band while they tour. Molly might be a little intimidated and not used to being in the spotlight again after a bad experience in the past, but she learns to deal with women and groupies wanting to be near Fox. Their relationship gets tested at times, but they face these problems together and figure out a way to get through it.
Another aspect that I love about this book is the secondary characters! I loved the Schoolboy Choir band! You could see all the members of this band have a close relationship. They are there for each other through thick and thin. I also loved Molly's friend, Charlotte, and her sister, Thea. Charlotte was a hoot! I'm seriously looking forward to her story with her boss, T-Rex! Another story I'm looking forward to is Thea and David. When Molly suggested to David to write Thea a bullet-point memo on why he thinks their relationship would work, I absolutely was rolling! Their novella is coming up in late September, so we won't have to wait too long for their story!
Wonderful job to Nalini! I already love her paranormal series, Pys/Changeling series, but I always enjoy it when my favorite authors go contemporary as well. I have nothing, but good things to say about "Rock Addiction." I was hooked. I am obsessed. I can't wait for the other books in this series! This is a must-read!
No time to get settled in, Rock Addiction just goes for it as in, within the first chapter things are getting down and dirty. So the first part of the book there were definitely a couple of "yeah right"-moments and lots and lots of sex. I can not believe I'm saying, but maybe there was a bit too much naked time between Molly and Fox. It was more interesting for me to focus on getting to know the characters on a personal level.
Molly was very contradictory. Because of some things that have happened in the past, she's all about playing it safe and not letting out her wild side. Though we're not even sure if she actually has a wild side, as she has never in her life done anything reckless or even passionate. That all changes when Fox enters her life. Sexual awakening and all that stuff. Slowly Molly is willing to take more risks and become stronger to the outside world.
Fox is a typical hot rockstar. All about the ladies, until Molly now, hates the violation of his privacy, has a mile high sex drive. Seriously while every guy is supposed to think about sex every seven seconds, Fox is thinking about it every three seconds. He does claim he feels more for Molly, and while I believe him I did have some trouble seeing that connection between these two at times. Yes, in bed things are amazing, but outside the bedroom scenes felt a bit lacking for me at times.
The secondary characters though are pretty great. Throughout the novel I kept guessing who's story we're going to get next. I think at a certain point I was even more invested in these people's lives than in Fox and Molly's. So I will probably be reading the next ones as well.
Nalini Singh took on a whole new genre and it was enjoyable, if you're in the mood for a hot rockstar angsty new adult read. I do have to admit I prefer her supernatural books.
It pains me to review this book because I absolutely love Nalini Singh, I think she’s an amazing author. When I first heard about Rock Addiction, I was so excited. I’m not a big fan of rock star romances but the book’s blurb is intriguing and when I started reading this, I was in the mood for a good romance book. Also, big shock, but a part of my excitement is because it’s by the author. I would read anything from her.
Unfortunately, this book didn’t do anything for me because there were just too many annoyances for me to actually enjoy the romance. Here are 5 reasons:
- First and foremost, let me just put it out there that I have no problems with people engaging in one-night stands. It’s their life, their decision and their business. What annoyed me about this book is the Insta-love. I mean, insta-lust is fine, I’m pretty forgiving about that because it does happen in real life. But for Fox, a world-famous rockstar, to suddenly start thinking of forever after just one night with Molly is just so unrealistic that I couldn’t stop my eyes from rolling when I was reading his POV. I can even understand the instalove in a PNR romance because of the whole mate scenario but it’s just not believable in a contemporary. Call me slightly (or maybe a lot) jaded and cynical but that’s not love. It’s just an extreme sort of infatuation that will crash and burn. #SorryNotSorry
- Her rock star. His librarian. Her Fox. His Molly. Me annoyed. I admit, I’m used to seeing this sort of description in Nalini Singh’s PNR and Urban Fantasy books but again, in a contemporary, it just didn’t work. I get it okay, you guys are in love and oh so possessive of each other but I honestly don’t think real people talk or think like this in real life. Rules change for me in a contemporary. I expect people to act and think in a more realistic way. I mean, I never once thought of a boyfriend as My *Insert-Job-Title-Here*, that’s for sure!
- The story is also a bit repetitive. Actually, no. A lot repetitive. It’s basically an ongoing roller coaster of sex, fights, predictable drama about a character being damaged and more sex. Rinse and repeat.
- Did I mention the sex? I hate to say this, but this book just have too much sex that it actually got boring. I get it, you guys give each other a hundred orgasms a day…can we please move on now? Which brings me to my next point:
- It was just hard for me to believe in the romance. And this is even after I got over my insta-love annoyance. I think it comes down to the characters being so immature for their age. Both are too jealous, too possessive and too obsessed about solving everything with sex. Again, their relationship screams more of extreme infatuation than love. How can I root for a relationship I don’t really believe will last after the honeymoon period?
This might just be a case of “it’s not you, it’s me” or it maybe even the fact that, alas, I’m too old for this romance trope. This book just had too many negative points for me to enjoy, despite the fact that it’s from one of my favorite authors. I did like some supporting characters though, and I honestly think they’re the reason I’m giving this book a 2.5 rating. Because of them I’m still continuing on with the series, especially since I’m interested in finding out what happens to Gabriel and Charlotte.
Despite me not enjoying this, though, I think some readers would. The Fox is totally dedicated to Molly and you can definitely put him in the Crazy In Love Hero category. I would recommend this to readers who are not that bothered with insta-love, are a fan of New Adult, and all the angst and intense steam that comes along with it.
I absolutely love this book!
Between Fox and his band mates what else can you ask for.... Well other than T-Rex.
I've read this book a long time ago (years ago), but I never had the chance to write a review about it. I read other reviews, and I couldn't understand why a lot of people have a problem with Molly. She's been through hell, and went through horrible bullying, and no one stood by her, but Charlie. People who review this books always point out how 'whiney" she is. And how "Hopeless" she is. And I don't see that. I see a young woman who saw the world as a normal person eyes, where they did not have to go through what she goes through later on in her life. Where her father have done something so bad that no one felt bad for her, but instead she was included in the horrible choices her father made. No one really cared about her feelings or how this can hurt her but one person. She was put through so much that she bases her decisions off of it. And I don't think that a bad thing all that much. But she doesn't stay this way. She changes and that all is because of Fox. And when she and Fox goes at it, its one hot argument that makes you envy Molly having Fox.
Well as a huge fan of this author I could not wait to get my hands on this the first of her new series entitled Rock Kiss . I absolutely adore this authors paranormal stories as the world building and romance are always second to none. This new endeavour is a contemporary romance series set in and around the rock and roll life style and not my usual choice of subject but if Ms Singh were to write a shopping list I would probably read that so there was no way that this wasn't coming home with this reader!
Molly is at a party when she spots Fox a rock god and notorious bad boy and oh boy is he a tempting sight but he wouldn't be interested in a quiet librarian like her would he? Well that's exactly what happens as when Molly goes to leave she is joined by Fox who seems a lot more than just mildly interested as he actually wants to go home with Molly! This is the sort of thing that lots of young women dream of and one night of passion with this tattooed hunk of awesomeness is something that the usually circumspect Molly cannot resist. It's a night filled with hot sweaty sex but Molly doesn't expect to ever see Fox again but he persuades her to let him stick around because after all he has to return to the states in a few weeks so what's the harm? The more time Molly spends with Fox the more she likes him and he is not the pushy arrogant guy she imagined as Fox has his own abandonment issues to contend with and a quick temper that causes problems. As for Molly she has her own reasons for preferring a quiet life away from the spotlight but the media are never far behind Fox! Can Molly take a chance on Fox or is their sexy world about to come crashing down ?
Ok first off this reads as a book of two halves , initially the couple meet and the persuasive Fox charms the pants off the heroine Molly quite literally! It's a period that felt a little slow and to be fair was mostly an awful lot of raunchy scenes . The second half of the book sees the couple trying to see just how good a fit together they are and I much preferred the latter half of the book as both characters open up and let their vulnerabilities show. Molly takes a chance and when things go badly wrong it was beautiful to see that together they could weather any storm!
I will admit I missed the world building that this authors paranormal stories offer but I could easily picture the situations described particularly as the book progressed. There's a few quirky characters lurking in the background who clearly need to have their stories told and although it was instant lust/love ( I missed the chase!) this turned out to be a believable romance about two people living in what feels like a goldfish bowl. In reality it's hard to sustain something so precious with so much pressure on celebrities but this is romantic fiction and anything goes! There is a lot of sex in this story and at times I thought it was how the young couple communicated! Also I'm not overly fond of virginal heroines but I guess Molly had her reasons.
So in conclusion I think I do prefer Ms Singhs paranormal books but I think fans of contemporary romance will be overjoyed by this book. A tortured hero and a heroine who takes a chance amidst very challenging circumstances. This author has the ability to take a relationship back to its bare bones and once again has written a passionate story with details that both shock and delight.
I am a huge fan of Nalini Singh and I have all the Psy-Changling and Guild Hunter books, so when the opportunity came up to review Nalini's new book I jumped at the chance, so thanks Nalini, here is my honest review:
Some people will love this book, others may not get into it...THIS IS very different from the Paranormal Genre she is most popular for.
You need to get that fixed in your head before starting it. To be honest I had a bit of trouble to start with.
I found it a bit hard to like both main characters to start with, what with Molly being the Shy Librarian, who had a troubled past caused by a scandal... turning a 360 and giving her virginity to a Rock Star on a one night stand?
I thought this was a bit cheesy to be honest, and also Fox was quite a split personality - on the one hand he was a typical Rock Star Alpha - Man-whore, Lip ring, Jealous and possessive... the last two were the traits I had issue with - But then again he is the Rock Star, so his Whisky Smooth voice and the visual package (don't forget the lip ring) make him an appealing Book Boyfriend for those that like this book genre. But then he would show his caring side, which seems quite at odds to the domineering alpha vibe he gave off.
As I said I was on the fence for the first 40% but Nalini's skill at world building won out and I was eventually hooked into these characters once she peeled off the layers to show the real character underneath.
Molly too becomes more likable once you begin to see that underneath the shell she's hidden in, is a sassy intelligent woman who will face her fears to follow her heart.
Another skill Nalini has is writing Hot sex scenes - and PHEW you get quite a few. You will find the usual Band Drama's - Stalking Groupies... Paparazzi ...
The second half of the book is where you really get engrossed and before I knew it I was at the end...
As I said, Nalini has the skill to create a character which is multifaceted, and the way she has portrayed the pitfalls of living in a Rock Stars orbit, you have a romance which you want to end in a HEA.
Where some Authors would create over the top drama with-in the story, Nalini did it so that it felt believable, (once you get past the 'Insta-love') where you could feel the connection developing between the characters, and I liked the way Fox was willing to do what he could to make Molly feel safe and secure in his often intrusive world.
Nalini Singh has a skill for creating Alpha Males who are sexy, loyal, that stay in your memory for a long time.
The 'Paranormal series will still be my NO 1 on my list of Nalini's books but the I will certainly be wanting to read the next book in this series, as the supporting characters are also well created, and as with the other series, you see those first intital characters grow and develop in the subsequent books, and I look forward to seeing how Fox and Molly grow in the series too.
When you see the name NALINI SINGH, you automatically say, BEST PNR Author out there! At least that has always been my reaction. Ms. Singh writes paranormal and urban fantasy like no other. She is one of the reasons why I started to read Paranormal Romance in the first place. I started her Psy-Changeling Series and I was a total goner! When I heard she was doing a contemporary rock star romance, I was intrigued and I was worried at the same time. It has to be hard to be so well-known for writing a specific genre, and then jump genres while keeping your avid readers happy and content. We as readers, are a very picky breed, so I can understand some of the early reviews for Rock Addiction. That being said, I believe Ms. Singh ROCKED this book. I very much enjoyed the direction she took with these characters. I was worried I wouldn't connect with these new characters, but I did, pretty much right away! My advice, don't go into this book thinking you are going to get the normal Nalini Singh writing style. It will cloud your mind before you even start. Go into this book thinking you are going to get a super sexy Rock Star Romance with some angst and one hell of a hero, because THAT is what you will get! If I could describe one word for ROCK ADDICTION, it would be...SOLID! This was a well done, SOLID, love story.
First of all, Rock Star and a Librarian? Has that even been done before? Not that I have read, but I loved the premise of it! I'm a big fan of LOVE/HATE SEX, if you know what I mean! You know, that intense, gritty, raw, passionate sex, where you can just feel the characters emotions through the pages. That is one thing, while you are reading this book, that will remind you that you are reading a Nalini Singh story...the sex scenes! In every book that I have read of hers, the sex scenes are spot on perfection, and just what you want out of a good romance.
Fox and Molly were great characters to get to know. The instant chemistry felt real and not pushed, and the sexual tension oozed off the pages. The back stories for both characters were interesting, and the communication between these two were refreshing to read about. The only reason why ROCK ADDICTION isn't a 5 STAR READ for me was the fact that the beginning dragged a bit, and some of the actions of the main characters had me rolling my eyes a few times. Other than that, this was a great contemporary from the amazingly talented Nalini Singh. Very good start the Rock Kiss Series. I'm very eager for the next one in the series, because some of the secondary characters kept me very entertained, and I find myself wanting to know more about the other members of the band. I recommend ROCK ADDICTION to all of you romance readers out there. Not only do you get the genius of Ms. Singh, but you get to meet the very deliciously tattooed, Zachary Fox.
Rock Addiction
Tall, gorgeous, talented, pierced, rock star looking for shy, reclusive librarian.....ummm, not going to happen! That is one ad that sexy rock star Zachary Fox would never contemplate.
Who knew that Molly Webster would be at a party where Zach was and they would fall instantly in lust with each other! A shy beauty who would go to great lengths to stay far away from the paparazzi. Molly knew that if she gave into her attraction to Zachary any and all hope to stay hidden from the paps. would go up in smoke. Molly couldn't, wouldn't allow anyone to put her back in the spotlight. She knew that if the scandal from her father followed her into her new life; her chance for a nice, calm life would shatter along with all her dreams. The smart thing would be to leave the party RIGHT now, do not pass go.....do not collect a hot rock star god! Too bad Zach had no intention of letting the sexy and innocent librarian slip away from him!
Meet Zachary Fox lead singer and sex expert extraordinaire, as soon as Molly walked up to her sister and smiled he knew that he would do whatever he had to, to make her his. Fox wasn't a man who believed in love, but he did believe in the many and varied ways to have sex, and he wanted badly to initiate little Molly into all those ways. He was only in the country for a month, plenty of time to convince her that she belonged to him....but Fox never dreamed of the nightmare that Molly was running from, or the horror that she hid behind her smile. Fox just knew he was willing to do whatever he had to do to keep Molly.
As Molly and Fox enter into what Molly first thought of as a simple one night stand, she learns that in order to move forward in life she must learn to accept her past.
Will Molly take a chance on Fox and a future that is everything that she has come to dread? Will Fox learn to trust that not everyone who enters into a relationship with him wants his money and fame?
Pick up this very entertaining book and be prepared to stay until you turn the last page! This is one book you won't want to put down!
Nalini Singh has done it again! Created a world in which we will gladly and wholeheartedly welcome addiction!
ARC received from very talented author and publisher. As well as Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.*
Mixed feelings.
Pros: I liked Molly-- she was a warm, friendly person. I liked the fact that she was just cute, not some drop-dead gorgeous model. Despite being a rock star, Fox was decent and he clearly cared for Molly.
Cons: There wasn't enough emotional development, or plot; as a result, much of the novel was one sex scene strung after another with a few faux "challenges" thrown their way.
One of the big plot problems was the Insta-Lust nature of the relationship. Fox takes one look at Molly at a party, then decides she's the one for him? Please. Singh could have just as easily addressed the emotional barriers keeping Molly and Fox from having an HEA by having their relationship start more slowly, so that Fox especially actually gets to know Molly before deciding that she is The One. There was a plausible way to do this, since we are told that the band had already decided to stay in NZ for a month to relax, and that Molly was the sister of their publicist. If the plot had been constructed this way, it would have been far more romantic and would have built up the sexual tension (which despite lots of monkey sex is pretty low because they're shagging nearly the entire book). Building out the 'getting to know you' stage also would have given the couple a more solid foundation on which to deal with the other pressures that Singh highlighted through the book, but which came off as sort of an afterthought: the difficulties of having a relationship when groupies are constantly throwing themselves at one partner; the invasions of privacy. These are genuine conflicts which clearly could stand in the way of a relationship but I felt like they were dealt with very superficially.
My other problem with the book was that even though I liked Molly, she came off as being too passive. I mean, seriously, what kind of woman abandons her entire life to move across the world to be with a rock star who she does not know very well after one month? The sex might have burned hot between the two but Molly and Fox did not seem like equals in the relationship. Singh tried to characterize Molly as strong because she'd overcome her father's scandal, but we were given almost no sense of what this earlier struggle entailed. Singh also tried to paint Molly's choice to move to LA as a courageous one, as speaking to Molly's inner strength, but I had a hard time swallowing that interpretation. Yes, there was a nod to her finding a new career as a freelance editor in LA, but it was very shallowly done. I was especially not a fan of Fox giving her a ton of money that she could keep, even if things ended... nor of him tatooing her name on his bod. That may be some women's catnip, but I don't find man-taking-care-of-dependent-woman (or making flashy statements) sexy. Relationships are hard and involve compromise. Waving the authorial magic wand and solving all these problems seemed a cop-out. Here again, having their relationship develop more slowly, having Fox go back on the road but still be connected to Molly would have been more romantic/sexy and would have helped to elucidate how they deal with issues of trust far more effectively.
I think Singh has talent, I just wish she delved deeper.
ROCK ADDICTION is my first Nalini Singh experience. I have to say I really liked it! The setting at the beginning of the book was New Zealand, which was different and fun. Molly lived there, and Zachary Fox was there with his rock band, Schoolboy Choir. When their tour ended, they decided to stay a month for a little R&R. Molly, a librarian, is a bit of a fan girl of the band – especially the bad boy, tattooed lead singer. She has kept up with him in the tabloids that cross her desk. Zachary Fox notices the curvaceous beauty of Molly at an after-party and is instantly drawn to her. I know a lot of people don’t believe in “insta-love” but having experienced it myself, I know it happens, and I am not put off by that theme.
I almost always shy away from rock star books. There is usually too much angst, cheating, drugs …did I say cheating? I am happy to report that this is not the typical rock star book. Zachary Fox is not the typical rock star. He is grounded, dedicated to his art, and knows what he wants in his life…and what he doesn’t. He definitely wants Molly. He just has to convince her that she wants him just as much.
The sex scenes are frequent and sizzling hot. Fox is addicted to Molly and can’t seem to get enough of her. Fortunately, she feels the same about him, so if you like your books steamy, this one will set your Kindle on fire! It is an emotionally gripping read that will have you laughing, tingling, and swooning. Zachary Fox will rock you to your core!
There is so much in this book to love... funny, witty, angst, romance, and an ending that leaves you wanting more! I can’t wait for the next story. It will also be fun to see how things are going with Molly and Fox. I recommend for all adults who have ever had a first love...and all those who love a little bad boy with their rock and roll.
Nalini Singh with a new adult rock star novel?! Had to try it as I love her paranormals. Molly is a librarian deathly afraid of being in the spotlight after a scandal involving her father rocked her teenage years, leaving her devastated by the press. Zachary Fox is a rock god, and his life is always within the view of cameras, exactly what Molly does not want, but she falls for him anyway. The book is their striving to find balance in their relationship and their fears.
I have to admit, I found the book a tad dull at times. There were some moments, but all in all it was quite tame, especially given it was about a rock star. I also admit I expected more from Singh given her other works. That said, it was well written, and had a good balance of reality of characters suffering from dealing with stardom and constant attention, as well as rising above scars of childhood. I didn't quite get why the main couple was so attracted immediately to each other with no words even said to each other. That wasn't realistic to me at all. The rest of their relationship progressed at a more realistic pace. The secondary characters were interesting, but despite the serious themes, the whole book felt a bit surface level at times when it could have gone so much deeper. So, 3.5 to 4 stars for good writing from a very experienced author, but not so impressed with this book and this couple.
Nalini Singh is off to a great start with her Contemporary Rock Star Series- Rock Kiss!
Her strong return to her Contemporary roots has all the guilty pleasures of the Rock Star Romance Theme (Glitz, Tattoos, Intrusive Fame, Talent, Burning Up the Sheets Sexuality, Talent, Tortured Souls, Good Girl, Bad Boy) with few of the potholes (Fox is not a man whore. Molly is not too stupid to live. There is angst but it is reasonable and reasonable jealousy too). And as always Singh's gifts as writer make the romance something special.
Singh started her career writing Categories Romance so she is very at home in the land of billionaire alpha male heroes who want their lady and want her now. She does it well.
Yet, Fox is steadfast and repents his arrogance. Molly has her own life, before him. during courtship, and after they are together. They are both fully realized characters.
The secondary characters are wonderful and we have major previews of the next books in the series.
There are a few moments where I wanted something deeper (not that there aren't real emotionally compelling scenes, there are).
I am sure with each book in the series the love stories will just get richer and more developed. I can't wait for the next book!
I was given this book for my honest review. So, there you have it.
I had trouble getting int Rock Addiction at the beginning of the story, and I have to admit I rolled my eyes a little bit. Molly is a 24-year-old virgin. And those who know my blog know that this is a pet-peeve of mine, right? Why is she a virgin? And why, oh why would she decide that her first time would be with a mega rock-star, while at the same time almost having a panic attack at the thought of paparazzi? And how could he make it so good for her that they ‘did it’ not once, but twice or more in the same night, and of course, she came each time?
I think my rant is over, but I just had to get that off my chest. Once I got to know Fox and Molly better, I enjoyed the story quite a bit, even if I almost thought there was *gasp* too much sex! And I love reading erotica, and I love Singh’s other books – both the Guild Hunter series and the Psy-Changeling series are among my favorites. However in Rock Addiction, I thought there was so much sex that it took away something from both the characters and the story overall. Like they felt slightly shallow, maybe? Even if I know I’ll read the next Rock Kiss story, because the writing was beautiful, and I was intrigued enough by the side characters to want to know what will happen with them.
What I did get to know about Fox and Molly, and their childhoods and their dreams and hopes was very well done, but it was pretty much overshadowed by all the sex. Even the music parts, where Fox was on stage didn’t really last long enough for me, and towards the end, I almost wanted to skip ahead and not read about the sex. Which is not exactly common for me at all.
Now, if you’re a fan of Ms. Singh, you know that she writes beautiful sex-scenes, filled with love, tenderness, feelings and hotness. And that is definitely the case in Rock Addiction as well. But I would have enjoyed the story if there had been less sex and more tenderness outside of the bedroom, even if there was quite a bit of that as well. Molly and Fox are both really great characters to read about, and they do have a lot on their plates to make their relationship work. And their interactions with the other band-members, Fox with fans, Molly with her best friend Charlie or her sister Thea were very well done, and the main reason why I know I have to continue this series.
Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh is the first book in her new erotic romance series, Schoolboy Choir. I am a huge fan of Nalini, loving her Psy/Changeling and Guild Hunter series. I really looked forward to this book, and Nalini always has wonderful hot steamy sex scenes in those series. Having read Rock Addiction, I have mixed feelings.
The storyline had an excellent premise with a rock band, the lead singer and the innocent young girl he falls for. Nalini always creates great leading and secondary characters, and it’s no different in this book. I liked Molly, the sweet innocent librarian, who found her wild fantasy coming true having what she thought was a one night stand with a Rock god.
Fox, is the hot sexy rock god, and he knew the moment he saw Molly that she was different, and he was determined to have her at any cost. The rest of this wonderful cast was very very good. Molly’s sister, Thea and her friend Charlie were great. Fox’s bandmates (David, Noah, Abe) were awesome, and I am sure each will have their story told.
Needless to say, the one night stand becomes more then either expected. Both Molly and Fox had their own childhood issues, which effected their lives. They work together to overcome those issues, and as well as the unwanted attention that fame brings to their privacy. It was a great ending, very nicely done.
With that being said, I would like to note what I was not crazy about in this book. In Nalini’s other series, her wonderful steamy sex scenes complimented the storyline, with her fabulous couples. In Rock Addiction it was kind of opposite. I did enjoy the storyline, and the characters. But I prefer my books to have the storyline be the main part of the book, with this book it was about 85% sex.
Rock Addiction is the first book in the Rock Kiss series from Nalini Singh. Rock Addiction is very different from Nalini’s paranormal romance series, and should excite and thrill her fans. Also if you’re on a rock star romance kick or enjoy Kylie Scott’s Stage Dive series, you’ll like Rock Addiction.
The first few chapters of Rock Addiction are jarring. Insta-lust is in full force here. There really isn’t any build-up of attraction between Molly, the shy, at times socially awkward librarian, and the hunky, larger than life rock star god, Zachary Fox who everyone calls him by his last name Fox, even Molly. Fox has that sex appeal women drool over, including Molly, who prefers to live in the shadows and lust from afar. When Molly was a teenager, her father was involved in a shocking scandal that tore Molly’s world apart. Years later, her father’s horrible actions still rule over her. Molly’s sister, Thea has moved on and is more self-assured in all walks of life. Fox and his band mates are Thea’s clients. She invites Molly to a party, and Molly sees Fox. He notices her and the chase is on between the two. There really isn’t much of a chase because when Fox convinces her to what she thinks will be a one night stand, she accepts.
Fox and Molly steam up the sheets and more. What Molly doesn’t know is that Fox is more than smitten with Molly and he wants a monogamous relationship with her. Molly isn’t comfortable being in the spotlight because of the horrible press and tabloids with her father. He then offers her a month together, engaging in their passions until it dies out (or that what he tells Molly in order to convince her he wants forever with her). Molly accepts, enjoying her one month with the rock star god of her dreams and planning to keep those memories of Fox with her forever.
Rock Addiction is a sex fest. Fox and Molly are all over one another in almost every chapter that I got whiplash. But Nalini can sure write some smoking hot love scenes. I just wished there was more of an emphasis on Fox and Molly communicating in other ways than just succumbing to their passion for one another every few minutes. But Fox is an excellent giver, generous, a little possessive, but not in the way that is too disturbing. Molly actually gains a backbone thanks to Fox. She blossoms with him.
Fox has a very overpowering personality. Right from the start the reader knows Molly will fall for his charms and sexual prowess, which isn’t that surprising, especially if you’re read Nalini’s paranormal romance series and her heroes who claim their heroines much of the same way.
I really was interested in Molly’s seemingly shy and scarred (it’s eluded she had some sort of emotional trauma in college) friend Charlotte, who is dealing with a stickler of a powerful rich and handsome boss she nicknames T-Rex. We get a small taste of what is to come with Charlotte and her boss (I bet it will be sexy juicy).
Talk about one sexually charged book! Rock Addiction will feed the appetite of rock star romance fans, but may find the abundance of sex scenes a bit too much. At times I felt Molly and Fox only connected because of the sex, even though Fox is really a great hero who sees all of Molly’s needs, and not just the ones where she’s screaming his name in pleasure. I did enjoy Rock Addiction even with the too much too count sex that grew a little tedious toward the end. But the way Fox was so dedicated to Molly, and loved her and needed her like the air he breathed was exactly what I want when it comes to romance.
Nalini Singh's first entry in her new contemporary romance series, ROCK ADDICTION, has all of the good elements of her paranormal urban fantasies without the supernatural. She writes intelligent, complex, and very appealing characters that will hit all the romance reader's hot buttons in a very good way. This time the monsters in the story are ordinary people who can tear apart a person's life with metaphorical claws.
Molly Webster is a librarian who hides behind books to shield herself after having suffered a very public shame and trauma. She falls hard for the every girl's fantasy rocker, Zachary Fox, whose life is the antithesis of everything Molly wants. Fox wants Molly from the moment he sees her, but realizes quickly that this shy, cautious woman must be courted very carefully if he has any chance of keeping her. Fox's rock star reputation and very tabloid-stalked life are major obstacles between them plus they have both been deeply wounded from childhoods characterized by self-absorbed, much damaged, amoral parents.
Molly's comfort zone is so far removed from the crazy town life of a rock star that she panics when thinking about what that kind of public exposure would do to her. The strong connection to and attraction she feels for Fox gives her courage to step out and take a chance. Molly convinces herself this is a brief fling, and then she can go back to her hidey hole life to find a safe boyfriend who will not challenge her deepest fears. But then she sees Fox, who could resist when, "...there in the flesh stood the sex god whose lip she wanted to bite. All six feet four inches of him. Masculine heat, golden skin...and smoky, sexy dark green eyes focused on her mouth." Molly realizes that resistance is futile!
Fox has lived the stereotypical bad boy rocker life only to realize that nonstop partying, meaningless sex, and mind altering substances are soul killers. He and his fellow bandmates are a tight family who have learned to shield themselves from the entertainment world that would use them up. Fox feels an instantaneous connection to Molly; however, any type of real relationship will demand herculean efforts against very difficult odds. Fox's immediate reaction to Molly is visceral: "And he knew what he wanted: to tug her to him with his hand fisted in her hair, brand her with his mouth, warn every other male in the room that she was off-limits. But the instant he did that, he'd make her front page news when he wanted her all to himself." Fox's glass cage life where fans and media think they have the right to own a piece of him make a normal life extremely difficult.
Molly is equally attracted to Fox and knows in her heart that a chance to experience an intense, out of bounds relationship like this will not come again. She has no shields against stalking paparazzi, lying tabloids, and the public scrutiny of vicious fans who use the anonymity of the internet to tear down and berate any girl not a model perfect, sylph-like Barbie doll. Her family's infamous past has emotionally scarred Molly and left her ill-equipped to deal with life in the brutally public eye. And how can Molly ever trust a man who has women constantly throwing themselves at him? Fox has his own personal dragons to slay which challenge having a loving, trusting relationship. Even the most sane, stable person would feel the strain of living a celebrity life and trying to have any kind of personal relationship makes for a lot of drama.
ROCK ADDICTION takes the reader for a good emotional ride; it is well balanced between the relationship development of Molly and Fox's romance and their physical passion. And although superlative words such as intense, steamy, and sexy are often overused to describe this type of romance, here they very definitely apply: this one sizzles.
A bad boy wrapped in a sexy, muscled, grown-up package might be worth a little risk…
Molly Webster has always followed the rules. After an ugly scandal tore apart her childhood and made her the focus of the media’s harsh spotlight, she vowed to live an ordinary life. No fame. No impropriety. No pain. Then she meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin, and a touch that could become an addiction.
A one-night stand with the hottest rock star on the planet, that’s all it was meant to be…
Fox promises scorching heat and dangerous pleasure, coaxing Molly to extend their one-night stand into a one-month fling. After that, he’ll be gone forever, his life never again intersecting with her own. Sex and sin and sensual indulgence, all with an expiration date. No ties, no regrets. Too late, Molly realizes it isn’t only her body that’s become addicted to Fox, but her heart…
Review:
Now, if you have read Nalini Singh's paranormal romance, this story is totally different. Comparing a paranormal to a contemporary, new adult for content is like comparing apples to oranges. I think you can absolutely compare her voice and writing style and I liked what she gave us in this new book/series. I have not read a ton of new adult, but it seemed pretty sexy to me and I honestly forgot how old they were after the first couple of chapters. I think it is hard to make a new and interesting story in a market full rock star romances and I thought she did a nice job of trying to be different with her story.
I liked Molly, I can totally understand why she is hesitant to be in a relationship with someone in the spotlight. I thought once she let herself go she was tough, loyal and had so much love to give. I did have a problem with her giving up her virginity, on what was to her a one-night-stand. Also, her being a virgin, librarian was a little cliche. Fox is sex and rock'n roll, no drugs (yeah!), but for me he is really not a bad boy other than being a Rock God. He is so freaking romantic, a truly stand-up guy and HOT. He goes after Molly with patience and a steely determination. I came to care for these characters and wanted them to have their HEA.
Now, I have to say I want to hear more about Charlie and T-Rex. They are obviously not in the band, but they so caught my interest I want to read their story!
I did not want to put the book down, so in my mind that is a good book. I wanted to find out what was going to happen with these two characters and the rest of the band. Great story!
Rock Addiction is book one in the Rock Kiss series. I am a huge fan of Nalini Singh. She has a way of weaving intricate stories that are magical. Unfortunately, for me, this book is missing this element.
Things that I liked:
I liked the idea of Molly being the type of girl that has it together. She is very disciplined and has her life carefully planned. But her motivation for this control does not necessarily come from a place of power. Instead, it originates from fear. With addiction in her family history, she is fearful that she will follow in their footsteps. Her control keeps her fears at bay, but it also chafes. She was tired of being the good girl. She wants to give in and live on the wild side for a while. With a chance of a lifetime, Zachary Fox offers her that opportunity. It’s the kind of moment that every girl who has ever had a crush on a rockstar dreams about.
Things that did not work for me:
I have difficulty with the opening premise. I cannot understand how Fox could be wildly attracted to Molly without really interacting with her. I can understand the physical attraction, but why was he invested in her so soon? I could understand Molly's attraction, why she couldn’t help herself – she idolized him for years. He is a rock god to her. She is sweet, kind, and nice but none of that would be apparent at first. How did he know at the get go that he wanted to spend more than one month with Molly?
I also have difficulty with Molly’s character. I like her, but she immature and lacks self confidence. She is not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I’m sure there will be many situations and people that will try to come in between them, trying to poison the relationship, so she has to be mature enough to trust him, even if it is just enough for him to explain himself.
In A Nutshell:
A bit of a rocky start, Rock Addiction is not Ms. Singh’s very best work. However, the author’s less than top-shelf work still passes the best work of others. She has set up some interesting situations with secondary characters that I cannot wait to explore in future books.
Most people that know the phenomena that is Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling paranormal romance series, a world filled with changeling shifters and conditioned Psy or the urban fantasy Guild Hunter series that drips with the blood of vampires and maddened archangels may not necessarily know about her contemporary roots and this return to a more realistic vein may throw some people off.
There was an element of adjustment required for Rock Addiction – a settling in of sorts if you like, because this is a version of writing by Nalini Singh not seen since her early days as a Harlequin romance writer. So if you’re not a paranormal romance fan and/or haven’t read her stuff before then Rock Addiction will probably be a winner, but because it is a complete shift – perhaps even a new experience for her para/rom fans – there may be some pre-conceived ideas to overcome.
I’m really not a fan of the whole insta-love or in this case, insta-lust scenario but considering that this is a heart throb rocker novel it kind of goes with the territory. There were a few bumps along the way as with any first book in a new series, and I definitely think Rock Addiction is far from a perfect read, but it has great bones, a great set of characters, and because of a built in fan base that adores Zachary Fox and his universally recognized band Schoolboy Choir, the reader kind of gets dragged along in the fever pitch of all that hype and adoration, it’s contagious. Molly and Fox are pretty hot together and there is a lot of sex, maybe more so than is completely necessary but again, it’s a rock star life!
Overall, Rock Addiction is pretty good; I enjoyed this grungy, tattooed, rock star romance and I’m already eager to read about the other members of the band. A good start to a new chapter of Nalini Singh stories, 4 stars.
The best thing about this book is that it has sequels. All the other characters have interesting books. I can not get through this. I have already finished the next two in the series. I keep going back to see if Fox and Molly get any more interesting but they don't. Nothing happens in this book except they get together and have sex and move in together.
Another problem with this book is the narration. Half the time Molly sounds like she's about to cry. I don't know if that's because she was supposed to be nervous or what, but it was annoying. Also Molly and Charli are supposed to be New Zealanders but don't have New Zealand accents. Only one character in the whole book has a New Zealand accent and that's a person who speaks two times. Absolutely ridiculous! If you want to read this book, basically just read the first chapter; everything you need to know happens in the first chapter. Then skip to book 1.5; Thea and David are a good story. That should have been the full novel and Rock Addiction should have been the novella.
Dear Ms. Singh -
You may have seen my graphical representation of the differences between “romance novels” and “pornography”. The left side of the line denotes “plot and characterization”, and the Y axis is for “sex scenes”. The further to the right a novel falls on this scale, the more erotic the prose is. Unfortunately, the real estate used to describe private encounters cannot be used to advance the story, and vice verse. The extremes on the line represent “chaste romance” and “flat-out pornography”, with “eroticism” being a gray area in the midpoint.
Your novel, Rock Addiction, manages to invalidate the main assumption of that chart – that is, that sex scenes cannot advance the plot or characterization. In Rock Addiction, every intimate encounter between librarian Molly and rock god Fox also manages to give us glimpses into our protagonists. In Molly's case, we watch her evolve and in Fox's, we get peeks backwards to see what in his past contributed to make him the man he is in the novel.
The book itself reminds this former mathematician of a sine curve. A typical novel will progress on a bell curve, similar to that first hill on a roller-coaster. An introduction into the premise, followed by a build-up to a major finale, followed by a little opportunity to resolve remaining plot threads (and allow the author and reader to catch their collective breaths.) This book, however, alternates between plot / character advancement and bedroom (well, not always in that room) shenanigans. However, characterization fans should NOT skip over the sex scenes, as they advance the characters (and in at least a couple of instances, the plot). AND those who read the book for the physical interaction between the characters are encouraged NOT to skip past the non-physical scenes; they allude to what and when the protagonists may be attempting in the bedroom.
I was also amazed at how you were able to end this particular novel, Ms. Singh. As we went through the various incidents that described the joint lives of Fox and Molly, I was beginning to think I'd hit the literary equivalent of a movie directed by the late Paul Mazursky – an excellent character study with the most awkward of (non)endings. You surprised me, by managing to wrap up the book in such a way as to make me feel that we HAD reached a real conclusion to the story you'd decided to tell.
I had the audio version, narrated by Justine O. Keef. Even though I listen to an average of one audiobook per week, I had never come across Ms. Keef before. Having listened intently to her for around 11 hours in approximately 35-40 minute increments, I can enthusiastically say that I hope it is not the last time I have the privilege of telling an author's story to the masses. (However, I can state first-hand that listening to an audio version of an erotic novel can make for some interesting commutes to/from work, as well as the feeling that I shouldn't attempt to get ahead on my listening while waiting in line at the McD's drive thru. Then again, some erotica writers use me as a gauge as to the effectiveness of their descriptions. The more embarrassed I get, the better they've done their job.)
Finally, let me applaud you on managing to get this reviewer, who is not an avid reader of either romance or erotica (although he tries NOT to fall into the rut of only reading his favorite genres and attempts to broaden his horizons into several other areas) into really caring about the characters you've developed. Not just the main protagonists Molly & Fox, BUT the friends and family that you also introduced us to throughout the pages of the book. I am happy to see that, like mystery author Tana French, you appreciate that ALL characters have a story to tell, AND that you've written sequels to the story featuring some of the other characters we've met during this initial novel. NOT that Molly & Fox aren't interesting, BUT the other musicians in Schoolboy Choir (Fox's band) ALSO seem interesting, as do the women they're interested in, and I'm looking forward to THEIR stories as well!
In conclusion, let me say that while I am NOT the biggest fan of erotica (you may have picked that out between the lines), I cannot hold that against someone who clearly states that is the genre of their work! If not, I shouldn't have bothered to review it! AND since your overall tale is SO effective – yes, including the bawdy parts – I have no choice but to give you my highest rating. It's early in the year, but you are currently at the top of my “best reads of the year” list, and it'll be up to subsequent authors to try to knock you off that perch.
Sincerely,
Andrew
“Here is to rock stars with voices like sex and bodies like heaven.”
Sex, love, and rock and roll. You get the whole shebang and this book! This is my first book by Nalini Singh, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Overall I liked the story, I just didn’t love it.
In other reviews I read prior to starting Rock Addictions people complained about insta-love and tons of sex. While insta-love can be a deal breaker for most, I can typically over look it for a great story. I just didn’t feel like this was a great story. It was a fairly long read with minimal drama or angst, but plenty of sex! Again, I love sexy books, but I just didn’t find the story to back up the sex.
I really liked Molly as a character and completely understood her insecurities. What I didn’t like or couldn’t get is that Molly, a 24 year old virgin, decided to give it all up for a rock star - a one night stand. To hold on to your virginity for 24 years just to give it up on a one night stand didn’t seem believable - rock star or not.
I also really liked Fox, especially how he went after Molly. This isn’t your typically boy meets girl, girl falls for guy, and it takes the whole book for the guy to realize he wants the girl - no Fox realizes immediately he wants Molly and for more then one night.
I had a really hard time read and reviewing this one, because I just came off reading a series that I loved. I try to start each book with a fresh slate, but sometimes I am not successful at doing that. So please take that into consideration, because I think a lot of people may love this one, I just wasn’t 100% sold.
Fox is well he's a sexy thing and doesn't hold back, "it's a face. It's mine. I don't want to kiss my own face. I want to kiss yours- while we're skin-to-skin and I have my c*** balls-deep in you." I loved how meeting Molly changes him in an instant, "he shuddered. "Are you a virgin?" Fox didn't do virgins; he didn't have the patience for it... but he'd make an exception for Molly. Eff, he'd make every exception for Molly." When it comes to his girl he's all attentive and is sweet, "taking control of the kiss, he nudged her into a seated position on the bed. When she lifted her hands to his jeans, he shook his head. "I'll take care of you tonight, baby. I think you need it." Some of the things that boy says is panty wetting, "I want to tempt you back into bed," he said, "except I think you've worn out my c***." I normally don't really read rockstar romances but this is a series I can't wait to see grow, and I just can't wait to see more.
Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors so when Rock Addiction came up on Netgalley I knew I had to read it. I was not disappointed!
Molly Webster has tried to put the past behind her by living a very structured life away from the spotlight, because her childhood was marred by a hideous scandal that tore her family apart. Then Molly meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed rock star who is every girl's dream. Can she resist his offer for one amazing night knowing one will not be enough?
Molly has put her life back together after her terrible childhood. She has a very quiet life and likes it that way. It helps to keep the past from creeping back in. Fox has his own demons he tries to keep buried. His life as a rock star keeps him in the spotlight with the media always on his tail. When one night extends to one month, how can Molly possibly give him up? Fox has become an addiction she doesn't want to break. Can they overcome the fears that have haunted them? Nalini Singh is the master of a steamy romance novel whether it be Paranormal or Contemporary. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Rock Addiction is the first installment in the new Rock Kiss series by Nalini Singh.
OMG! If this isn't an ultimate secret fantasy come true, the hot alpha rock star falls hard for a quiet librarian. So sweet and surreal!
I was hooked from the very first sentence! Nalini Singh has a great way with words and knows how to create three-dimensional and interesting characters with complex back stories.
Molly and Fox meet at a party and the chemistry is sizzling and intense from the start. Molly has had a crush on him for the longest time. She is shy and inexperienced, but can't resist a one-night stand with Fox. Against all odds their relationship develops into something serious and they have to come to terms not only with their individual pasts and fears, but also with life in the limelight.
The hero and heroine are very likable characters and had me rooting for them all the way to the Happily Ever After!
I also loved how all the band members would be supportive of each other and always have one another's backs. I'm anxious to find out more about the rest of them, too.
This is a funny, witty, sweet and steamy-hot novel I really enjoyed reading!
Can't wait to read the next book in this series! I am definitely going to check out Nalini Singh’s other series as well.
Wow, I'm still fanning myself! Nalini Singh succeeds in striking the perfect balance between scorching hot eroticism and sweet romance. The hero is an alpha male with hidden vulnerabilities and the heroine innocent but with an adventureous streak. It's a case of instant lust and they have intense chemistry but need to come to terms with what it means to have a relationship in the spotlight.
I used to read a lot of romance novels, both historical and contemporary, although these days I am mostly into Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy. The Psy/Changeling and the Guild Hunter series range among my favorites and I consider them some of the best writing in the genre, so I was very excited when I discovered the unexpected announcement on Nalini Singh's blog that she had branched out into contemporary romance. The whole rock music scene is not really my thing, but the blurb sounded very promising and struck a chord with me.
Synopsis: At a party hosted by her publicist half-sister cute librarian Molly Webster comes face to face with Zachary Fox, sex god and lead singer of the famous rock group Schoolboy Choir. She has been fantasizing about him for some time, so when he follows and propositions her, she throws all caution to the winds and decides to indulge in one night of pleasure. Fox has been captivated by her artless and likeable nature, so there is no way he will be satisfied with one night and he proceeds to convince her to give him the whole month he is vacationing with his band in New Zealand. Afraid of the intensity of her feelings and haunted by traumatic events in her childhood Molly nevertheless agrees since she feels she will at least always have the memories of the time she spent with Fox. After the month is up, Fox, who was playing for keeps from the beginning, asks Molly to come back with him to California. Taking the biggest chance of her life Molly leaves her job and her friends behind to be with Fox in his Santa Monica home. Although she can slowly establish herself as a freelance editor and researcher, she has to come to terms not only with beautiful Hollywood actresses dropping by unanounced, but also with pushy groupies groping her man and intrusive papparazzi. Plagued by demons in his own past Fox has a tendency to try to control Molly, and not only inside the bedroom. While on tour an incidence occurs that plays on Molly's worst fears and that will put their fragile love and trust to the test...
What I didn't like about it: Nothing against a heroine that is sweet and inexperienced, but a virgin at 24? And then she considers a one-night stand, even if the hero is gorgeous and she's had a crush on him for the longest time. Also, though probably many (female) readers can identify with Molly, she is a bit ordinary and bland. And I don't mean only her looks (she is described as pretty), but also her personality and her whole life. To have a gorgeous, sexy, famous hunk fall madly in love with one has at one time or another probably been the secret fantasy of every woman, but even with the suspension of disbelief I find it hard to swallow. So does Molly, actually, and at the beginning of their relationship that is a source of insecurity for her. It wouldn't be so bad if Fox, in contrast, weren't so perfect in every way: hero with a tortured past, great body, ribbed, golden skin all over (why does this remind me of a certain cat), sexy voice, talented, great in the sack and loaded. Really, why am I complaining? But he seems just like too much of a good thing.
Oh, and the name oft he band "Schoolboy Choir" does so not hit the right note for a supposedly gritty rock band.
What I did like about it: Even though it's in the "didn't-like-section" I actually loved Zachary Fox, because who wouldn't? He is very likable beneath his rough edges and although he is quite controlling and demanding in bed he isn't too bad outside of it and Molly stands up to him if he tries to be. Recently I have started to read some erotic romance, but disappointingly most of it is written very badly, with inconsistent character development and very repetetive. I would also label "Rock Addiction" erotic romance, but that's where all similarities end. Nalini Singh is a superb story writer and her main protagonists are well developed. I liked the local color she used for the scenes in New Zealand and Santa Monica. She also finds a good balance between romance, intense emotion and explicit love scene and the narrative has a good rhythm. The sex is intense, with some kink (light and playful bondage). The cast of secondary characters is also well drawn and I'm looking forward to future stories featuring the other band members, Molly's half-sister Thea and her best friend Charlotte.
If I had to rate this book, it would very much depend on what I compared it to. On its own merit as an erotic romance I would give it five out of five stars, because it's so well written and one of the best of its genre that I've read. Compared to Nalini Singh's PR / UF writing I would only give 4 stars, because I feel that the complex world building accounts for a large part of the appeal and what I am willing to believe in a story set in a fantasy world it not necessarily the same as in one set in the "real" world. Having said that, I will certainly check out Thea's and David's story.
I heard about the Rock Kiss series from a friend and then was fortunate to get an ARC of Rock Courtship to read and review. I loved the book and then just had to buy the other two books in this series, Rock Addiction and Rock Hard.
Rock Addiction is the story of Fox and Molly. Fox is a known womanizer, one of the most eligible bachelors and part of a famous rock band. Women swoon over his every action. Never to commit to a relationship, he is the one-night stand kind of guy.
Molly, on the other hand, has seen too much bad publicity in her life and is super shy. In love with Fox but also knowing that he will never notice a shy mouse like her, she is surprised when Fox asks her out.
What she hopes is a one night stand soon becomes much more. Will Molly risk her strict no-publicity life to give love with Fox a chance?
I love Nalini Singh's books and she has proved again with this series that she can write contemporary romance just as easily as she writes paranormal romance! The plot is interesting and I loved the starting which had me rooting for Molly as I stood with her looking across the hall at the super sexy and surrounded-by-model-like women, rocker, Fox.
The cover is interesting and ideal for the type of hero here with a strong presence and an alpha male sporting tattoos! The blurb is also interesting and captivates at first glance.
The writing style is engaging and instantly hooks your attention leaving you spell bound to continue reading. The same thing happened with me. I loved the natural, super charged chemistry between Molly and Fox. Both are completely different from each other and want different things in life and yet when they come together, their feelings have the power of making the readers burn with its intensity. Their romance is sensuous, hot and emotionally charged and had me rooting for a happily-ever-after for these two love birds.
While I absolutely loved the story and the characters, I do think that there was an excess of sex scenes in this book which somewhat downplayed the story lined and could have been curbed a little.
However, despite this, I loved reading the book and was thoroughly entertained by Fox and Molly and loved meeting Thea and David from Rock Courtship again. 3.5 out of 5 to Rock Addiction and recommended to all readers above the age of eighteen who are lovers of intense romances with gripping story lines. Nalini is a very talented author and one whose books I love reading.
Rock Star romances are one of my favorite types of reads, so when I saw that Nalini Singh was switching it up a bit and writing in the new adult genre, I knew this was one I needed to check out, and Zachary Fox doesn’t let me down. He exudes the rocker persona and oozes charisma and sex. Used to getting what he wants, Fox sees Molly Webster across the room and has to have her; for some reason, he’s drawn to her in a way that’s never happened to him before, and while it’s perplexing, he makes it his mission to have Molly at least for one night. But Molly’s not Fox’s typical starstruck fan; she definitely is attracted to him and wants to know what it feels like to have her world rocked by the hot lead singer, but she’s also carrying some pretty serious baggage, and the media circus that surrounds Fox’s life is not something Molly’s ready to be exposed to, which might get in the way of Fox’s true intentions with her.
One night turns into one month turns into…
If Fox has any say in the decision, it’s going to turn into as much time as he can get with Molly – maybe even forever, but there are so many variables going against Fox and Molly that he knows he needs to proceed with caution. The biggest obstacle is Molly and her fear of being put back into the spotlight – a place that exposed her in ways she almost didn’t recover from – a place that stripped her of the carefree life and left her merely surviving, playing everything safe. But Fox is there to carry the weight of both of their pasts as they work to turn what was supposed to be one night together into a lifetime of nights together, but only time will tell if Fox can show Molly that the threat of media exposure doesn’t have to rule their lives and that their addiction to each other, both body and soul, can protect them from whatever may come their way.
Overall, I really enjoyed Fox and Molly’s story. It was a bit hard to connect with them at the beginning because their lack of communication got extremely frustrating. They used sex way too much as a way to get out of having difficult discussions, and I just didn’t see how they could make a relationship work when they couldn’t even be honest with each other. I understood Molly’s concerns with Fox’s lifestyle and the media frenzy that circles his every move, but she knew going into their month together how it could play out, so her hot and cold act annoyed me at times. Molly definitely seemed to have two sides to her personality, and towards the end of the story, she gets stronger and realizes that Fox is worth the risks she has to take to be with him. Fox’s determination to be with Molly was a bit bewildering to me at times; clearly, he can have any girl he wants, and he practically has to chase Molly at every turn, but maybe that’s exactly why he wants her – the challenge is something he knows can end up altering his life dramatically and he’s been done with the groupies for some time now.
One aspect of the story that really worked well for me was the supporting characters. Molly’s best friend, Charlie is a rock star all on her own for how she gets Molly to live a little and shed the security blanket she’s been wearing for too long, and her play by play of the situation with her boss was a great addition to the storyline, and I hope readers get to hear more about their angsty situation in the stories to come. Molly’s sister and her situation with David was also something I wanted to find out more about, and thankfully, I’m not going to have to wait too long because Rock Courtship will release soon. I can’t wait to see those memos!
Rock Addiction is a hot read that illustrates how scaring people’s pasts may be and how those scars sometimes dictate too much of their future. Fox’s willingness to stand by and fight for Molly despite the rollercoaster she took him on solidified him as a great book boyfriend. I can’t wait to see where Nalini Singh heads with this series and what she has in store for the other band members and their family/friends.
Rock Addiction is the first book in Nalini Singh’s exciting new Rock Kiss series and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. I’ve not read Nalini Singh before although I know her by reputation, of course, as the author of the highly popular Psy-Changeling and Guild-Hunters paranormal series. The thought of such an established author branching out into a contemporary rock romance series was beyond irresistible to me. So, I had no expectations of the writing style, characters or plotlines other than the promise of a hot rocker romance.
I really did enjoy this. After a bit of a ropey beginning, Fox is incredibly cocky and sure of himself and I wasn’t sure I liked him in the first chapter or so and he falls in instalove with Molly the minute he sees her across a crowded room and I’m not really a huge fan of instalove, but putting these behind me very early on, I soon settled into the swing of it and very much enjoyed this.
So Fox falls in love with Molly at a crowded party, knows he has to have her but Molly is very wary of the media circus that surrounds him due to past trauma’s and is not keen on a public high profile relationship and so they agree to enjoy a passionate affair while he and his band are in Australia and then will go their separate ways. Or so Molly thinks. Fox, of course, has absolutely no intention of letting her go and sets about charming and seducing the pants off of Molly and works on getting her to fall in love with him.
The book is told in two halves, almost like two separate stories. This could definitely have ended after the first half and the entire second half could have made another novel. The end of the first half, really did feel like a happy ending but the course of true love never did run smooth and prepare for a rockier, angstier ride in the second part of the book.
You really can tell that you’re in the hands of an established, well experienced author – the writing is seamless and the character development is stellar. It’s an incredibly sexy, compelling and pretty addictive story as we follow Fox and Molly on their rocky road to love. both in Australia and Los Angeles. Fox is a gorgeous and sexy rock star who is used to a continuous stream of dispensable groupies who are prepared to do just about anything for him and he seemed to change instantly the minute he met Molly. I’d love to believe in the whole bad boy rocker changing his ways for the love of his life however unlikely it seems but I’m too much of a cynic at heart I think.
Molly comes across as a bit of an innocent caught up in a whirlwind with no escape in sight – she’s kind of wide-eyed innocent and lost most of the time. She does eventually get a bit stronger but there were times when she grated on me a little. Fox is very charming and I really thought she was a bit mean to him and I actually started to feel a little sorry for him.
What I think Nalini did really very well in this was develop fantastic secondary characters to the central couple who I really wanted to know more about and this is always very important in the first book in a new series and it worked beautifully – I now desperately want to read everyone else’s stories as they are released. In particular, I am dying of anticipation at the thought of Molly’s best friend, Charlotte, hooking up with her boss who she calls T-Rex. Their story is told in tiny little titbits throughout Rock Addiction, as is David’s and I can’t wait to read those. I developed an immense fondness for the other bandmates and I think this is a fantastic start to an exciting new series.
3.5 stars and not 4 just because sometimes I badly wanted to slap Molly but, other than that, I really enjoyed this one!
Although not as amazing as Rock Hard (omg, that book!!!! I already want to re-read it.), Rock Addiction delivers a solid read with Molly learning to be okay with being in the public spotlight after her traumatic experience with the spotlight in her past. Fox is a solid hero, but I never quite fell for him as our lead dude. I think he was honestly a little too perfect, which is a weird thing to say considering some of the things he does in this book, but idk, something about him didn’t totally click with me. That did not prevent me from enjoying the book immensely, of course, so I still highly recommend all of Singh’s works.
When I first heard about Ms. Singh’s decision to go back to contemporary romance, my first thought was “She can do no wrong, I’m in!” And I’m happy to report that I enjoyed ROCK ADDICTION a lot!
Ms. Singh writes amazing characters, there’s no doubt about it. From heroes that you can’t help but want and love, to heroines that make you cheer them on. Fox was all that and more for me. He’s sexy and badass. I love a man who is determined and knows what he wants. And he wants Molly almost with a single-minded focus and goes after her. Then with that same focus he works to keep her. I am a sucker for all that intensity!
Then there’s Molly. She’s a bit less confident than I usually like but she manages to grow into her own throughout the book. From not wanting a relationship with someone in the public eye like a rock star to being strong enough to withstand the craziness that their life together will be, full of fans and paparazzi. She’s just a heroine you can easily relate to!
Molly and Fox are definitely hot together. They have great chemistry and maybe that’s what got me to overcome the insta-love. Fox is a dirty talker, and he likes to make Molly forget about any issues by having sex. There is plenty of sexy times, all very sensual. But maybe a bit too much of it. But even when it’s not all about sex, these two are fun to read about. This is one of the things Ms. Singh does best. She can make any story work and make me believe.
ROCK ADDICTION is sweet and very sexy, even if predictable. I loved that we didn’t get any unnecessary drama and that once Fox sets his sights on Molly he stays true to her. I found by the end that was important to me. Fans be warned, this is not your typical Singh writing style. And not because of the genre change. More on the way she tells this story.
This sets the perfect backdrop for the series. Not only does it give us a great romance, but it lays out the groundwork that has me already anxious to read at least the next 3 books! Talk about creating an addition. I love all the men of Schoolboy Choir!
3.5 rounded to four because come on, it's Nalini Singh.
Romance novels are always a little fun. They're fantasies for sure, always a little on the fantastical side, and certainly not stories that happen to real people in real life. At least not that I know, but one can always hope something so unbelievable happens. It is love after all, and many things have happened in the name of love :)
I really enjoyed the relationship between Fox and Molly. Both are seemingly adults, living their adult lives, yet are still mired in their pasts. Both have been hurt and that hurt prevents them from both opening up and essentially moving forward. Until they meet each other, that is. I also loved the pairing; both couldn't have been more different than the other. Fox, a high-profile celebrity, lead singer of a very popular rock band; Molly, a wallflower, librarian, and...wait for it...virgin, at the age of 24.
True to what makes Singh a real peach in the romance department, the sex and romance were both hot and sweet. Lovers of both of her highly popular series already know this but if you're new to Nalini Singh, the woman can write some sex scenes. Not only are they mostly of the smokin' hot variety, but there's also a touch of unexpected sweetness added in at unexpected times.
While this certainly wasn't my favorite from Singh (as I'm a huge fan of her Guild Hunter series), it was still a fun and worthwhile read. I recommend this for those who like new adult romances on the steamier side. Would I recommend this to lovers of her other series? If you're a diehard Nalini fan, yes indeed. But if you're looking for this book to be of the caliber that her other books are, you may be a little disappointed because it's quite different. But still good nonetheless and does have the trademark romance I look forward to and expect each time I read one of her books.
Zachary Fox is officially my new favorite fictional Rock God. His and Molly's story was so sweet, intense, erotic and filled with amazing hot sex! LOVED ❤️ LOVED ❤️ LOVED
At first when I started reading Rock Addiction, I thought maybe I had missed a pre-qual or something. After a couple pages, I realized Nalini Singh did me a favor. She eliminated much of the fluff you get at the beginning of the book and went straight to the meat. At 7% into the story we're treated with HOT and steamy, up against the wall action. I'm talking possible wall indentations.
By 14% in, I was already madly in love with Fox. He has got to be the sweetest, sexiest, muscled, tattooed, rocker I have come across. He knew what he wanted from the very beginning and made it perfectly clear he wasn't going to stop until he got what he wanted...Molly. But unlike the usual story lines we see, Fox is gentle and sweet. Using pure romance and realness to get through Molly's walls. He's so gentle it's like he gets through with an ice pick instead of a bulldozer; making it easier for Molly to come to terms with her past trauma. Don't get me wrong, Fox has his issues too, but he's so well balanced (as well balanced as can be that he doesn't let it control him) but Molly knows and sees it; however, they have such a connection that they instantly know how to reach the other and help heal.
With scenery spanning from New Zealand, Australia and Los Angeles the backdrop is as epic as their story. Nalini Singh gifts us with a VERY well written story with characters I couldn't help but love. Next up is the story of Molly's sister Thea and Fox's drummer and friend, David. Rock Courtship will give us the deets with what they were up to while Fox and Molly were falling in love and give us more incite to the infamous "memos". :)
Rock Addiction gets 5 rocking stars from this Naughty Mom
I am a HUGE, blubbery mess of a fan for Nalini Singh. Her paranormal romances are to die for (especially the Psy-Changeling series), and when I heard she was going to write a contemporary book, a ROCK STAR book no less, I absolutely had to read it. Cue me jumping for joy when I got Rock Addiction in my hands. I should mention though, for fans of Nalini’s PNR or Urban Fantasy books, Rock Addiction has a completely different feel–of course, it’s contemporary, so it should feel different! But just because Rock Addiction was different doesn’t mean I loved it less. I thoroughly enjoyed it–Nalini’s venture into the rock star world was engaging, hot, addicting, and overall a fun read!
Molly Webster is a good girl–she’s a librarian and a virgin. She wants nothing to do with drama for the rest of her life, because incidents in the past involving her parents have left her hurt and scarred on the inside. Unfortunately, the moment she meets Zachary Fox, her life isn’t so simple anymore. When Fox and Molly see each other, there’s insta-lust, but when it’s done well, I have no problem with it. And the instant attraction between Fox and Molly worked for the story and for me. And there’s the whole ‘opposites attract’ thing as well–Molly is a quiet, shy type of girl, while Fox is the lead singer of a world-renowned band.
"He didn’t believe in fantasy sh*t like destiny or fate or the biggest con of all–love–but he knew himself. And he knew what he wanted; to tug her to him with his hand fisted in her hair, brand her with his mouth, warn every other male in the room that she was off-limits. But the instant he did that, he’d make her front-page news when he wanted her all to himself.
Private.
Alone.
No cameras.
No lights.
No f*cking interruptions."
I usually wouldn’t like heroines like Molly, but somehow, Nalini Singh was able to make me care for this girl. I didn’t completely love her, but she felt real to me. Like her thoughts and actions and reactions were understandable, even if I didn’t like them sometimes. Fox brought a lot more feelings out of me than Molly–I was just shy of loving him completely. He’s the perfect rock star–he’s sexy, charismatic, an alpha-male, knows what he wants. And what he wants is Molly. He’s never felt an attraction toward anyone like he has for her, and he wants to see where it could lead.
“You know when you get the whisper of a melody in your head, or the murmur of a song? And you have the gut feeling that if you could just hear the rest of it, just capture the music”–the need an ache as frustrating as it was piercing–”you’d have something f*cking amazing?”
Noah nodded.
“Yeah well, that’s what it feels like with Molly.” The most compelling whisper of his life. “I’m not about to walk away from that.”
Fox is refreshing in the way that he’s the one who wants more. Molly is resistant to forming any sort of relationship past their one-night-stand (which definitely heated up the pages), but Fox is compelling and irresistible. We see from his thoughts that he falls fast and hard for Molly, and I loved that Fox is the one who has to convince Molly that the two of them work. Theirs is a romance that is slow, sexy, warm, heartwarming, and real. Despite the whole rock star thing, these two characters felt very real to me, which made it so easy to be swept away by their story.
Fox’s eyes held her own, a passionate possessive fire in their depths. “No half measures, no regrets.”
“No half measures,” she vowed, her pulse a staccato beat and her heart on her sleeve. “No regrets.”
Fox’s kiss branded her, his body imprinting on her cells.
What I loved best about Rock Addiction was the fact that the drama wasn’t the over-the-top kind of drama. As problems rise for Molly and Fox, none of the it felt like too much–it wasn’t drama for drama’s sake. Each problem for this couple felt integral for the story, and was necessary for them to overcome so they could reach a happily ever after. Fox and Molly openly communicated (another refreshing thing) and I was able to connect with them easily.
Within Molly and Fox’s romance, there’s humor as well as the bromances between Fox and the other members of Schoolboy Choir. I loved that everything went well together, that nothing felt out of place with this book. I just really enjoyed Rock Addiction–I’m glad to have read it. And I’m incredibly excited to read the other books in the series!
ROCK ADDICTION was an excellent, spicy romance that I couldn't put down. Molly Webster is determined to live an ordinary life as a librarian. She has overcome the scandal of her teenage years when her politician father was caught in an affair with one of her classmates and when her parents died in a car accident in a car driven by her alcoholic mother. Molly is determined never to be in the public eye again.
However, she has long had a crush on rock star Zachary Fox whom she knows only from the gossip magazines she likes to read. When she attends a party with her sister, she catches his eye. He takes one look at her and decides that she is the one for him. He talks her into a one-night stand and then a one month affair but has no intention of ever letting her go.
Fox has issues of his own. Childhood abandonment by his mother has warped his view of love and relationships. He has, however, created his own new family with his band mates and a few other select friends. Forming a relationship with Molly won't be at all easy.
I liked the way both characters were strong, but damaged, people. I liked the way they gradually built their relationship. I liked the way each of them had built families by choice since their birth families had proved to be so disappointing. I liked the way Molly and Fox stood up to each other to get what they needed.
Fans of spicy romance with well-rounded characters will enjoy this story. I'm eager to read the stories of the secondary characters too.
3 TEMPTING REASONS TO READ ROCK ADDICTION
THE CHARACTERS ARE SO FREAKING SEXY. Rock Addiction is the story of a wicked lead singer falling fast for Molly the wary librarian. I don’t know about you, but when I hear “librarian” and “rock star” as descriptors for main characters instantly I’m more attracted. Yes, I’m that shallow. It was also really hot to watch Fox tear down all of Molly’s walls and masterfully charm her into a deeper relationship with him then the previously agreed upon “one month stand.”
ALL THE FEELS. Both Fox the rock god and Molly the hottie librarian have had some horrible childhoods. It was an emotional read as I watched them both overcome their pasts and embrace an honest, loving relationship.
THE SECONDARY FRIENDSHIPS. Every new character that was introduced made me want to read their stories as well. Molly’s best friend, Fox’s band mates, Molly’s long-lost sister. I can’t wait to read more about these fictional characters that I’ve grown attached to in such a short time.
❝She wanted to bit his lower lip. Wanted to tug on the silver ring that pierced the corner of that delicious, toe-curling mouth. ❞
It took me a while to get around to this review. Not only was I packing for vacation and babysitting, but this book gave me a review slump. I fell in love with this book so fast, I was surprised by it. Nalini Singh is a talented author, but I wasn’t this into her Psy-Changeling series. Quickly after finishing Rock Addition I purchased the next two stories in the series. Every romance reader should give this book a shot. It was sexy, loving, and kinkier than I expected. I can’t wait to read more from this series!:D
I normally don't go for straight up romance novels. I need some kind of plot separate from the romance to hold my interest. But Nalini Singh's writing is just so awesome, I really enjoyed this romance novel. The main and side characters are all nicely filled out and have interesting back stories. I loved watching Molly and Fox work through their histories together. By the end of the story you really felt that Molly and Fox were a rock solid couple that would weather anything. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
Rock Addiction amazed me somewhat for its strong erotic component, I didn't expect it, I was surprised, but certainly I'm not complaining, Nalini Singh can be very addictive, always and everywhere.
I appreciated the story written by the author, although the context chosen by her, she's outside of the usual cliche: he is Fox, the male protagonist, a rock star who could have any woman at his feet, to have undergone has very clear ideas about who wants by his side and know what needs to be done to get the attention of the only woman he desires.
He doesn't want to scare her knowing now how serious are his intentions,  it might make her escape, and he knows to have some cards in his favor to play: he is irresistible, hot, a little bit forbidden charm, everything that Molly has always tried to avoid. Fox offers a short relationship, a month during which they can explore the attraction they are feeling, time to convince her that he's the right man for her, he wants to make lose her head, and then earn her trust and love and break down all the barriers that Molly has been able to build around herself over time for fear of suffering.
I really liked Fox, it is needless to say, so dama hot, but also a loyal man, brutally honest, stubborn and very protective, a mix that is lethal for me. A character to be discovered, by reading his story and going beyond the surface of things.
 Molly does not convinced me much like female protagonist, I'm nit very fond with her... maybe a little too timid for my taste, obsessed with fear of follow father's footsteps, but basically her fear of mass media and their attention towards her and Fox as a couple is more than justifiable given the unfriendly treatment that newspapers had with her when she was a young girl. I liked  a lot her ability to get the tune right away with the Fox group, to transmit her warmth and disinterested affection to them, a breath of oxygen for the boys.
Inthe story of this author people around the protagonists always have important and fundamental role in their lives.
I adored the rest of the band, the deep bond that unites them, that fame and money have not scratched, they grew up together, they overcome all adversities, always together, despite their deep differences. They understand Rachele other without words, they protect each other, a real family and Molly became because of Fox. David, Abe and Noah intrigue me a lot, maybe because Ms Singh's characters  always have some dark sides, troubled and mysterious.
Definitely a promising series to follow in the future, I expect great things.
REVIEW:
I have to start by giving you full disclosure. I don’t really care for New Adult books. I know, I know some of you love them. But normally they just leave me feeling like I am watching a bad high school drama. But when I saw that Ms. Singh was starting a new series which was labeled as new adult I almost didn’t pick up this book. But I love love love Ms. Singh (love all her Psy-Changeling & Archangel books). So I took a chance and picked up Rock Addiction.
In Rock Addiction we get to meet bad boy rock star Zachary Fox, or just Fox to his friends. We also get to meet the sweet, shy librarian Molly Webster. A chance meeting at a party will change everything for these two. I will say that there was a lot and I mean a lot of sexy time in this book. Fox & Molly don’t waste anytime getting down to busy. While at times I would have liked then to not be spending so much sexy time and maybe talk more, there were moments that Fox & Molly were just sweet. I enjoyed the story that these two shared and hope to see them grow in future books.
Speaking of future books the whole cast of characters in the Schoolboy Choir interest me. I really want to see what happens with David & Thea.
Disclaimer:
I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley & TKA Distribution in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
Will Molly let her fear of the press, the past heartache, and her tangle with the shadier side of fame stand in her way with what could be longer than a one-night stand with the Rock star of her dreams Fox? Will Fox convince Molly that they need to extend that to a whole month, the month he will be on the island, with his band…
This is definitely a 5 star start to a new series for Singh. I have hardly left the last page and can hardly wait to pick up the next novella in the series. Fox and Molly left the pages scorching, or at least, my kindle was smoking as the final words were read. This is an adult novel with plenty of heat between the covers of the sheets and the pages. The romance factor is incredible high with a great plot that is witty and sexy in the way you would expect from Singh. I was a little skeptical when I say the rocker hook as that is being used a bit, but, hey, this is Singh, and it is written well and the storyline is great.
I think the characters are well developed including those ready to step into the next novels and novellas. It is great to see that the aspects of Fox and Molly are not just swept aside when it is not convenient and they can fight about things as long as they come to each other with the issue. They face obstacles together and not just brush them aside as would normal people giving them well defined growth in the book. It is refreshing to see such complex characters, which you can always count on from a Singh novel.
Is this novel for you? Yes, if you like a great romance novel with a sexy lead male and a strong female that can stand up to her man if needed. If you like well-developed characters and romance with some rough spots that must be worked on…and you have to read to the very end to see what will be… If so, then this is for you!
I love the paranormal books with Singh but I just didn't enjoy the contemporary book. Molly was immature and of course a virgin. Too mousy for me. I realize this book is just way too jammed with sex. I'm done with the instant-love. The plot did not emerge ( except for the guy/ girl relationship). I skipped to the last chapter-- still didn't yank my chain. When I start skipping parts of the book at the beginning and get bored , then it means it's just not for me I am returning the Kindle back to my library. You may enjoy it . But don't expect a typical Singh book. The book should grab you and hold you immediately. Immediate sex with no connection with the readers did not help.
As a groupie of great rock romances, I leapt at the chance to read ROCK ADDICTION. Scorching from the start, Molly and Fox’s white-hot affair is a breathless and blazing tale of unslakable passion and timeless love on an international scale. Lengthy and luscious, this sexy couple’s progression from secret lovers to rock & roll royalty captivated and entertained me well past my bedtime.
Zachary Fox is one devastating hero. A sinner and a saint. When Fox turns on his cocky charm, flashes that devilish grin and commands Molly’s attention—unleashing his wicked tastes and talents upon her very willing body—I fell in mad lust. When he woos Molly’s heart…sigh! I felt pure LOVE for that fabulous man. Fox has got to be one of the most romantic modern heroes that I’ve read in a long time. He adores his Molly fiercely and completely. He does anything and everything to have her in his life. He’s open, raw, honest and so true to her. He’s simply the fantasy.
Molly and Fox’s highly emotional and sensual journey was just the divine escape I was hoping for. I can’t wait to read David and Thea’s HEA in ROCK COURTSHIP releasing later this September! I’ve officially found my next series obsession!
Nalini Singh is well known for her paranormal romance (PNR) Psy-Changeling and Guild Hunter's series. With a combined over 345,000 ratings on Goodreads averaging a 4.19 rating, it's safe to say that Nalini Singh is amongst one of today's best liked PNR writers. Joining the recent new trend towards diversification away from relying solely on PNR, Ms. Singh now joins other famous PNR writers, like Kresley Cole, who have recently released contemporary romance books. In this case, Ms. Singh has picked one of romance readers' favorite types, a hot rock 'n' roll love story!
Although this book is labeled as a contemporary romance, it really has much more of a new adult (NA) feel to it. In addition, to the plentiful, hot, steamy scenes, Rock Addiction also fits the common NA theme of self-discovery. Both the hero and heroine must learn to cope with past issues prior to learning how to truly love. As a consequence, this is a book particularly suited for readers that enjoy this sub-genre.
Growing up in a political family, Molly Webster was used to the media spotlight, until a devastating scandal taught her it's ugly side. After her horrifying experience, spurred by her family's addiction obsessed mistakes, she has made it her life's mission to: (1) avoid addictions of any types and (2) lead a life of obscurity.
So imagine her surprise when one of the most famous rock stars, Zachary Fox, takes notice of her. Fox, is one of her sister's biggest clients (her sister Thea is a publicist). Expecting nothing more than an anonymous, one-night stand, Molly succumbs to Fox's sexy, muscled, tattooed and pierced irresistible package.
When Fox tells her he wants more, she instantly gets overwhelmed. So he proposes a limited arrangement: a one month fling, with no public outings where they can be recognized. Even as he proposes the arrangement, Fox knows that one month with Molly will never be enough. Fox, however, figures that by the time his vacation in New Zealand, Molly's hometown, is up; she too will be begging for more.
But Fox is unprepared for the intensity of Molly's beliefs. Moreover, even if she can overcome her demons, being the lover of a rock star has its own challenges. Then there is also his own scarred past which presents its own associations where love is concerned. Can a HEA possibly be in the stars for this couple?
I do have to say that it took me a while to get into this story. The romance, particularly Fox's strong conviction that Molly was the girl for him, just seemed a little too instantaneous. Once I worked through that, however, I did really enjoy this story, especially Fox's character. He's the perfect alpha, sexy protective type. My favorite type of hero! The steamy scenes were also memorable, especially when Fox let his dominant side take over.
All in all, Rock Addiction is a decent start to a new rock group based, contemporary romance series. The glimpses of some of the other band members, including David, Fox's band's drummer, and Thea (Molly's publicist, sister), including their numerous memos to one another, documenting the pros and cons to starting a relationship, promises to be an interesting start to the next book in this Rock Kiss series.
Rating~ 3 stars
Zachary Fox is the singer of the band school boy choir and the hero of the book. Fox had a rough childhood, his mother abandoned him and left him with his grandparents who died later hence he has no other family than his band members and has associated the word love with those hurtful memories of his childhood. Which changes when he meets Molly.
"Her smile smashed into him with stunning force. He heard nothing of the party around him saw no one but her."
Molly is a librarian and a fan of the band. Her parents died in a car crash when she was young. Her father was an adulterer which lead to her mother becoming an alcoholic leading to Molly becoming an orphan. She and her whole family where in the limelight because of her father's behavior which has led to Molly resenting and fearing the media. She is only close with her best friend Charlotte and her sister Thea other than that Molly lives a very solitary life.
"The girt and sex of his voice made her body ache but more dangerous was the effect he had on her heart."
Molly and Fox meet at a party which leads them to having a one night stand. Molly doesn't want a relationship with Fox because his position in media would expose her old wounds while Fox from the moment he meets Molly wants to make her his but Molly doesn't anything more than one night stand for her memories. Which begins their courtship.
What I liked: I really liked the fact both Molly and Fox wanted to actually be together and were willing to work/compromise for each other. Molly and Fox are together for all the chapters in the book which is different since most books have the inevitable separation.
Minor quibbles: Firstly too much sex, it was like every two chapters there was at least one sex scene. I also felt that the whole (view spoiler) felt a bit excessive. Molly got on my nerves a few times; she would get overly teary/emotional in part one and in both parts she would have a rage inducing jealousy, while I think jealousy is a normal reaction, her level of jealousy was irrational. Fox decision that Molly is the one after spending a couple of hours felt thin and is questionable. Lastly, this book was longer than I think the average contemporary book when I don’t think it needed to be. The first half of the book was slow but it went eventually picked up its pace, I felt that part two of the book was better than first.
First books in the series are usually the whole building block for the books to come which is why sometimes they can be weak. The thing is when authors like Nalini Singh who are very muched loved for her stories and series publish a new book you get very excited and have high expectations which is why I didn't love the book like i expected to because I expected more of the uniqueness her books have.
Overall It ended being an ok read and the sneak peeks we got of T-rex & Molly's best friend Charlotte and Thea & David's has made me curious about the next books in the series. I do think that people who love this trope would like it more.
This was a really good book and I love reading about bad boy rock stars. Molly Webster has a fear of being in the public eye so what does she do? Molly has a one night stand with the lead singer of one of the biggest rock band on the planet Schoolboy Choir. Zachary Fox is a hot tattooed rocker who wants Molly for more than one night so she agrees to a month. This is my first my time reading this author and I have been wanting to read this book for awhile. Molly has been hurt by her father a politician who got caught having sex with in underage girl her mother was an alcoholic and they both died in a car crash when she was fifteen. Fox's mother left him when he was a kid. The supporting cast in this book were great I liked her sister Thea who was the bands publicist who the drummer David wanted to get with and Charlotte who is her best friend who is having problems with her new boss. The sex scenes in the book was also hot. Both character's have been hurt in the past by there parents. Fox band becomes his family has he has nothing to do with his family. This is a new series to me the narrator was really good. I am looking forward to reading or listening to the next book in this series.
When I heard Nalini Singh was releasing an extra book this year on top of her Guild Hunter and Psy-changling series, I jumped for joy! When I received an ARC i might have screamed... Just a little!
This book has everything you'd normally find in Nalini's books. Strong Sexy alpha male, not so timid female and a great cast of supporting characters making you not only fall in love with the main leads but crave more from the others in this world.
The only fault I had was Molly jumping straight into bed with a stranger, when she was a virgin, YES okay he was a Rock Star with looks to kill but come on ladies we should at least hesitate before throwing ourselves at Rock Gods!
For me the second half of the book was the best, I loved how Molly grew and how she pushed for the things she wanted. She never allowed herself to be dazzled by the rock world and stayed true to herself.
As for Zachary Fox... Well what can I say? Rock Star, Sex God and a voice like whiskey and sin... What's not to love?!
Overall another fantastic read and I can't wait for more!
Gah! This book is so hard to write a review for. I absolutely adore Nalini Singh and was so excited when she offered me a review copy. I literally squealed and did a little happy dance. I was a little nervous because it is a contemporary New Adult but I’ve enjoyed the New Adult books I’ve read so far so I figured why not.
Now the hard part…I actually found the first half of this book painful to read. Yes, it had the NA elements you would expect and like many of the NA books out there today it had sex, A LOT of sex. In fact, the sex seemed to dominate the story and I was turned off at the insta-love between Molly and Fox. Fox sees one hug between Molly and her sister and all of sudden just knows that she’s the one for him. On the other end Molly who has some serious issues about being in the public eye just has to agree to a one month arrangement with one of the biggest rock stars in the world because of the lust she feels. Seriously?!
BUT I will say the second half of the book was much better. Once they got past the insta-lust/love and committed to more than the 30 day agreement the story definitely took a turn for the better. It was refreshing to meet a couple that actually knew how to communicate. A majority of the time it seems like authors will choose to have the major conflict be some big misunderstanding that explodes because both sides refuse to actually just sit down and talk about the problem. Instead when Molly was having those insidious jealousy issues she behaved like a grown up and actually brought it up with Fox and what do you know, they were able to work through it and come out the stronger couple.
I do have to say the supporting characters were my favorite parts though. I cannot wait to read David’s story and all about the memos he writes to woo Molly’s sister, I have to know what Noah’s dark secret is, what happens with Charlotte and Mr. T-Rex, etc. There were so many tantalizing side stories that even though this wasn’t a favorite I will definitely be checking the rest of the series out.
I love Ms Singh Psy-Changeling series. I was excited and curious when I first heard she is writing a contemporary romance, a rockstar one at that. While I like the overall story and even loved some elements in it, I kept comparing it to her PNR series and it came short.
The story of Fox and Molly starts with instalust and very, very instalove on his part which works for me in a paranormal setting but I find it annoying in contemporary romance. The sudden cravings, possessive and protective instincts are so unrealistic and they take a lot off the authenticity of the story from the start.
The book itself is divided into two parts. The first focuses on the struggles the characters face in order to be together felt real and I was curious how they will manage to overcome all the obstacles in their way. Molly shied away from publicity and hid the effects of a painful personal drama which happened when she was a teenager. Fox, the lead singer of a super successful rock band, wanted to try a relationship, despite the media intrusion in his life and he also had painful secrets from his past making him reluctant to trust.
I like his perseverance, never giving up on them, always trying to find a way to make things between them work out. Molly, on the other hand, often acted immature, never really believed in them and it took some time and a lot of effort on his part and some gentle encouragement by her best friend for her to take risk of being with Fox.
The second part of the story shows us their struggles as a couple. There was a lot of drama and scandal and not much growth in both of them.In my opinion there was too much sex in both parts. There was just a few detailed scenes but it was constantly mentioned in passing and I felt took the place of a deeper, more honest relationship.
There were some cheesy moments and quite a few cliches which made the whole story seem rather New Adult and lacking depth and seriousness. I don't generally mind predictability in romance but not when I can guess every next step in the story.
On the positive side, I liked the secondary characters and especially enjoyed a lot the interactions between the Fox's bandmates and their acceptance of Molly in his life. The parallel romance plots were very interesting - David and Thea (whose novella is coming next) and Charlie and T-Rex. The titbits we were given into these relationship hold a promise for some exciting additions to the series.
Overall, it is a nice rockstar romance with somewhat NA feel and with some cliches for the genre, yet it opens the door for some more exciting stories to come in this series.
I was excited to read Nalini Singh’s Rock Addiction since it is a contemporary romance novel that involves some very HOT rock stars. In fact, Rock Addiction is the first book in the series and I couldn’t wait to dive into it. I have been sucked into the world of Nalini’s Guild Hunters, so I was ready to be sucked into her Rock Kiss series.
Nalini has a way of winning over a reader with her male characters and it was no different with Rock Addiction. I fell immediately for Fox because of his intensity of trying to win over a very sweet librarian. That sweet librarian didn’t make it easy for the sexy Fox because she didn’t want to be put in the spotlight. She had a rough past in being in the spotlight thanks to what happened with her father/mother situation. She didn’t even think Fox had her on his radar since she is not his normal girl to go for. Fox though was intrigued by Molly Webster the minute he spotted her. He wants the one-night they had to turn into something more, but Molly is not up for it. They negotiate into a one-month fling, but Fox knows he’ll want more. He has to win over Molly and let her know she means more then a month for him.
Rock Addiction had me sucked in from the beginning, especially with how Fox surprised Molly in the elevator. Let’s just say Nalini had the book smoking hot from the first chapter to the last. Of course there were some issues I had, mostly with Molly. The girl was set on being with Fox for one month and that’s it. (Shaking my head at Molly…you best believe I would go for more) She kept trying to hide their relationship, but Fox being a rock star, it was kind of hard to keep it hidden for so long. I understood why Molly was the way she was, but she definitely couldn’t hold it against Fox.
Fox’s character was complete opposite of Molly with his alpha like bad boy status, but he had a way of changing with Molly around. How in the heck Molly could resist Fox, especially once she got to experience him in the bedroom…I have no friggin’ clue! The man had skills. I adored every bit of Fox.
I look forward to reading the rest of the rock stars books after reading Rock Addiction. Nalini introduces each of the characters with their personalities and what’s to come, but she has the readers begging for more. She at least did for me. ***I’m interested in David’s story. =)
I give this book 4 full moons and recommend it to readers that enjoy rock star Contemporary Romance novels. Rock Addiction is much different from Nalini’s other two series, but she still gives us some very addictive, sexy male characters to drool over. =)
I received a complimentary copy of the book from RockStarPR Lit (via the author) in exchange for an honest review.
Book Review- Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh
Molly Webster is a librarian with a sister who is a publicist. It’s the reason she finds herself at a major party with her best friend Charlotte. They are there to support Thea and her clients, one of them being the band Schoolboy Choir. In fact lead singer, Zachary Fox, launches Molly’s fantasies, but she wants nothing with the public scrutiny that his stardom brings. After the scandal she lived through with her parents, she wants to stay completely out of the limelight. She can drool over Fox but reality makes it just a fantasy.
Zachary Fox has noticed Molly even though he doesn’t let on. He has watched her real reactions to her sister and situations at the party. Her smile draws him in and he wants her, not just for a night. He is attracted to her honesty and realness she conveys. He is determined to make her his. He just has to patiently convince her.
When he ambushes her in the elevator and offers a night, Molly throws caution to the wind. Just once she wants to let her past and fears go and live for the night. Of course it becomes complicated fast when Fox reveals he will be there for a month. Molly has no idea what to do with a rock and roll god.
I liked this book. It is a new series that centers around the band Schoolboy Choir. This was front man Zachary Fox’s story. He wanted Molly the minute he saw her. He always goes after what he wants. I loved his determination and sexiness. He never waivers from his goal.
Molly was fearful which was understandable with what her past held. Both Molly and Fox were scarred by their childhoods. What they experienced created their insecurities which in turn affected their relationships. These two were well matched. They were both broken but understood the other’s devastation and had great chemistry. The author wrote some very hot scenes that were very believable.
I really liked these two together and how the author created a strong team. I can’t wait for the other band members to reveal their stories. I give it a 5 out of 5.
When I heard that Nalini Singh would be releasing a Contemporary Romance, I knew that I needed it. Like, with a burning passion. If there are two things that I love, they would have to be rock star romances and Nalini Singh; and putting those two things together pretty much made my year. Rock Addiction had me addicted, I could not pull myself away from it, while the story may not have been the most original, the intensity and writing really drew me in.
While Molly may have been apprehensive about Fox, I was apprehensive about her. I felt that she was a bit too innocent (if you know what I mean) and the genericness of that aspect of her kinda bummed me out, even her being a librarian added to that. But what distracted me from her virginal-ness was her snark and fierceness, I really liked that Molly gave as good as she got. And while her occupation had a downside in terms of originality, I liked that it bled into her everyday life as well; her unintentional usage of highfalutin (hehe) words was really cute. As I read on, I grew to like Molly not just as a character, but also as a human being. Nalini Singh was able to flesh her out and make her likeable and more realistic, someone with normal problems (and not just a rockstar chasing after you). In the beginning, Molly started out as a dull blade, aged and rusty with unuse, her fears preventing her from doing anything significant, but as the story wore on, she started to sharpen and become lethal, someone brave and confident enough to face the craziness that is the life of being a rockstar's girl and also to know and accept her own self.
Zachary Fox was the epitome of a rockstar sex god. His voice was actual sex, like, insta-eargasm. If you have never done the dirty deed, just listen to his voice, that is what sex sounds and feels like; Fox's voice will wrap itself around your body, slowly caressing you and while it is whispering the most erotic things to your ear, it will also fill your body up until all you can think and breathe is Fox. *fans self* I swear, that man is so damn potent. Fox is the perfect mix of dirty, sexy man and sweet, protective lover. Make no mistake, while he may have a soft side (usually only shown to Molly), he is still an alpha male and like to be in charge. Like, please, you can be in charge of me any time. I mean it, any time. Ahem, excuse me. But seriously speaking, I loved the way Nalini Singh characterised Fox. Sighhh.
The chemistry between Fox and Molly was evident right from the very beginning, the sexual tension was so thick I could literally feel it emanating from the book. I really enjoyed the banter between them, the clash of ideas and personalities made their relationship all the more interesting. The two had their ups and downs but that fueled the romance between them even more (angry sex = so hot). But their relationship wasn't just about their sexual chemistry, the stories exchanged between them and the trust that grew between them warmed my heart. I was also very impressed by how Nalini Singh was able to paint the image of what it is like being with a rockstar and how the public will view it. The whole paparazzi and fame aspect of the book added more drama and excitement to the book. I found myself cheering for Fox and Molly throughout to book. I mean, who wouldn't?
I was very surprised by Nalini Singh's writing in this book; it was completely different from her normal style. It was impressive how she was able to distance herself from her normal writing and transition into a different voice; it almost felt like I was not reading her book but then I would find signature bits and pieces of her in Rock Addiction that reminded me why I love Nalini Singh so much. I swear, that woman is some kind of writing goddess. *bows down*
Rock Addiction is the perfect read for anyone who is looking for a book with the right amount of angst, steam (okay, Rock Addiction was H-O-T) and substance; this book was not just about Molly and Fox, Nalini Singh created a great cast of characters that will make you laugh, sympathise and fall in love with them. Nalini Singh was able to compose the the most perfectly imperfect song with Rock Addiction, the edges and rhythm rough and sensual but tone and harmony balanced and will greatly appeal to your senses, get ready to be taken to a whole new level of wowI look for, you will not want to stop listening to this song (trust me, you will have the best/worst case of Last Song Syndrome). I really look forward to reading to rest of the Rock Kiss series!
I received this book from NetGalley free in exchange for an honest review. About 3.5 stars.
First let me start by saying Nalini Singh is one of the most consistent Paranormal Romance writers in my library. She never lets me down with either her Archangel series or her Psy-Changeling series. Having said that, this book is outside her usual style and it took me a while to get into it, simply because I was expecting something else.
Fox is the lead singer of a very successful Rock Band called Schoolboy Choir. Of course he's a hot, sexy bad boy. This book began a bit stilted for me, because right out of the gate, I'm supposed to believe that Fox falls for Molly, a cute, but let's be honest, average librarian. She's not a kick-ass shifter, a vampire hunter, a Psy with awesome mental powers. She's just... Molly. And she's damaged. So the book started with me thinking - come on, like this would ever happen. Okay, yes, I know I know - the chances of a mousy librarian hooking up with a Rock Star is definitely more possible than meeting the Alpha of a Leopard shifter pride. I get that. I'm not being entirely reasonable. But also, she's not strikingly beautiful, unlike many of Nalini's other strong female characters. I'm not sure if this was supposed to make the average woman feel like, hey, maybe i could get a rock star too! I just couldn't get into the immediate chemistry of the romance. The sex was hot and there was a lot of it, but it was just so quick. My absolute favorite part of Ms. Singh's writing is her character development. Her character relationships always build throughout the book until you have an unshakeable bond. The immediate insta-love romance of this book was a bit too abrupt. To be fair, if this was not a Nalini Singh book, I probably would have shaken it off, but i was expecting more development.
So the first part of the book was not the greatest for me, but I DID like both of the characters. Let me make that clear. The characters were very likable. My favorite part of this book was probably the secondary characters. She definitely introduced some very fun and likable characters that I want to get to know better. I loved the way she had the story lines and romances of the other characters occurring concurrently. So we know that there's something happening offscreen, but we just don't have the details yet. This was VERY clever as it reels the reader in to continue with the series. I got enough of a glimpse to know that i definitely want to know the rest! I'm particularly excited to read about Charlotte and T-Rex! Unfortunately it does look like the next book is David. That seems interesting as well, but I need to know about T-Rex first! That is all I will say to make sure I don't have any spoilers. There are a couple other stories brewing there as well, but they seem a bit darker and I'm not sure I'm ready for those yet.
There was definitely much more sex in this book than in her other series and I kind of feel like that was because there wasn't as much plot to speak of. Yes, the plot was fine, but it wasn't as complex and intricately woven as her other series. I get it though - sometimes as a writer, I'm sure you just want to write about something more straightforward. I'm sure she will be able to churn these books out.
My final assessment is that, while I love Nalini Singh and did enjoy this series, and will continue to read it, I would selfishly rather she focus on her PNR books. Because while anyone can write a rock star romance, ONLY Nalini Singh can capture me the way she does with Archangels, Psy, and Shifters. If this series causes delays in her releases of her other books, I'll be sad! I will always be a fan of Ms. Singh's because of her writings to date, but if she were to just write contemporary romances, I'm afraid she'll lose what makes her special. At least to me.
It's no secret that Nalini Singh is one of my favourite paranormal romance authors, I absolutely adore her Guild Hunter series and I'm currently working my way through her Psy-Changeling books which I already love just as much. So when I found out she was writing a new adult rock star romance I immediately wanted to read Rock Addiction and I couldn't wait to see what the queen of paranormal could do with a contemporary romance (this isn't her first contemp story, but it is the first one I've read). I went into this book with incredibly high expectations but for once I wasn't worried because I knew this author wouldn't let me down. She consistently writes fabulous stories with characters who I fall in love with every single time and that's exactly what happened here.
Fox is the lead singer of the rock band Schoolboy Choir, he has it all - money, fame, a bad boy image complete with tattoos, more sex appeal than any one man should possess and a voice made for seducing women. He has his sights set on Molly, a sweet and innocent librarian who has a deep seated fear of fame and the resulting paparazzi harassment thanks to her time spent in the spotlight as a teenager after a family scandal. The last thing Molly needs is to start a relationship with one of the most famous faces in rock but that doesn't mean she isn't willing to have a little fun - as long as it's kept private and is a short term thing. Fox is the one who is determined to push her for more, he knows something special when he sees it and he has no intention of letting Molly go.
Rock Addiction is an incredibly hot read, one that is packed with scorching hot sex scenes that will leave you in need of a cold shower. I already knew how good Nalini Singh is at writing chemistry between her main characters but I really think she has excelled herself in this instance and I loved everything about Fox and Molly's relationship. What I loved most was the way the author turns so many different romance tropes upside down, there were a few times when I almost started to worry about the direction things were going to take - I feared we might end up with another relationship crisis because the characters weren't sensible enough to talk things through like adults - but every time I got nervous something would happen that completely surprised me and made me fall in love with the characters even more.
Both Fox and Molly are flawed in different ways but they understand themselves well enough to see why they react in certain ways and they also make allowances for each other based on their pasts. I loved seeing them put each other first and working together to find solutions for their problems - it made it very easy for me to believe that they could make things work as a couple. The one thing I really didn't like was a certain part about Molly's trust fund, I just didn't agree with the way things were dealt with and it made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Apart from that I think their romance was done incredibly well and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them fall in love.
As if fantastic main characters weren't enough we also have a selection of brilliant side characters who I absolutely can't wait to spend more time with. I really hope we get a book for each of the remaining band members, David, Noah and Abe, because I have high expectations for all three of them. I also loved what we saw of Molly's best friend Charlie and desperately want to learn more about her and the boss she calls T-Rex. Rock Addiction has left me excited to continue the series and it has everything I look for in a rock star romance so I can't recommend it highly enough. Nalini Singh was already one of my auto-buy authors for paranormal romance but now I'm going to have to go and read through her contemporary romance backlog!
I adored this book, Ms. Singh writes amazing heroes and heroines in each and every book, and I think I have read them all.
Molly works as a librarian in New Zealand, she has been trying to live what she considers a normal life, out of the limelight ever since her father brought scandal to her family, destroying everything around her. She met Thea, an unknown half sister several years ago, they had the same father but Thea had never met him and they have become good friends, however the relationship is still new.
Zachary Fox is with the band Schoolboy Choir; they are enormously famous around the world, he enjoys life and what fame has given to him. While at a party Thea is hosting (she is his publicist) he notices Molly from across the room, when she smiles he knows he is a goner. He catches her while she is leaving and they are rarely separated from that moment on, her believing this is a temporary fling, he believing in forever.
Every time I read a book by Ms. Singh I am always immediately engrossed in the story and with the characters, Rock Addiction is no exception. I was quickly taken by Fox’s attitude about life, his control over his circumstances and his determination to succeed, all with some vulnerability when dealing with Molly.
When they first meet is it lust at first sight, at least for Molly. As far as Fox is concerned he has found the one…and will do anything to make sure she stays in his life. It may sound a bit overbearing but the author is skillful in how she handles his possessiveness. The two have some amazing scenes together, the chemistry is off the charts and they sizzle, as this has a very erotic feel.
I loved Fox from the beginning, he wants control over his life because there were times while he was growing up that control was taken from him but he is gregarious and fun to be around, and is not too full of himself. He accepts who he is and does not think too much about anything being different, at least until he meets Molly who wants nothing to do with being noticed.
Molly grew up in what seemed to be a perfect household, until her father was caught with an underage girl, Molly’s age. The fallout was horrible as it tore her family apart and left her alone until she finds her sister several years later. She hides from the world by being a librarian and keeping to herself and it is only her feelings for Fox that bring her out to face her past. I love how she deals with things; she is smart and handles change nicely.
This is the first in a series so secondary characters play important roles as many will be featured in upcoming books. I love Thea, her sister who is straightforward in how she deals with things but is confused by her own love life. Each of the band members are quirky in their own way, they have their own demons to deal with and we get glimpses of each of them in this book. I also like Kathleen, a friend of Fox’s who is a celebrity in her own right, Molly and her become fast friends after a rough start.
The pace of the book works well, they fall fast for each other, and there is some drama with both Molly’s reluctance and jealously and also with a band member but for the most part we watch an amazing love story build between two people who are very different. There is some trepidation on
Molly’s part since she keeps waiting for the end of their relationship, but Fox is all in from the beginning, I like that. I highly recommend this book by an author who I believe could write a story in any genre.
I have a few of Nalini Singh’s books on my TBR list, but haven’t had a chance to pick one up yet and when this blog tour came along, I grabbed it up quick. This sounds like a fantastic series, Rockstar meets damaged woman that wants to stay out of the limelight. I loved the growth of Molly and her ability to stick to her guns, but when the time came, her heart won. A beautiful love story.
Molly Webster is a twenty four year old that has been in the press since she was a teenager and doesn’t want to go back to that place. But when she’s being chased by a strong, handsome, incredibly irresistible rock god, how can she refuse to spend time with him? Eighteen months ago, Molly discovered she had a half-sister and they are getting closer as each day passes. Thea is a publicist to the most popular band around, Schoolboy Choir and since they are all in New Zealand where Molly lives, Thea invites Molly and her friend Charlotte to attend the party.
Molly has drooled over Zachary Fox for ages and when she sees him for the first time in person at the party, Molly has trouble keeping her tongue in her mouth. Being the rock god that Fox is, Molly doesn’t think he would even notice her across the room, but oh how wrong she is.
When Molly finds out the band will be staying in New Zealand for a month on vacation, it’s her worst nightmare. It means she could accidentally run into him after their hot one-night-stand. The only problem is, Fox didn’t believe it was only a one night thing and is determined to be with Molly until he leaves the country and even then, Fox is hoping she will be his by the time the month is up.
Molly tries to keep her past a secret from Fox, but when they continually argue over being busted by paparazzi, Molly gives him a piece of her past. She doesn’t want her heart to open to Fox, but finds it very hard when he’s pushing her rules out the window.
Zachary Fox is a twenty seven year old that didn’t have an easy childhood either. With a mother that never wanted him, can Fox believe that Molly won’t walk away when it gets tough? Molly is different and interesting and so beautiful, he wants her for himself forever.
Can Fox and Molly work in the real world when he’s in the spotlight 24/7? Is Molly strong enough to handle the consequences if their relationship gets leaked? Will Molly still want her normal ordinary white picket fence life after spending time with Fox?
Rock Addiction was certainly an addiction for Molly, filled with steamy hot scenes and intriguing back story, this is certainly a great beginning to a rocking series. I also loved the fun banter between Thea and David and I am looking forward to reading their novella next.
I reviewed this at MustReadBooksOrDie with my friend Shelley!
Shel: I'm so glad I read this book; it surprised me. I guess I was expecting a lot of angst and hardship and all sorts of bad shenanigans..and I'm happy to report that I finished it happy and wanting more. Court: I was expecting that too. And while I had a rocky start getting into it, the book pleased me greatly by the end. I had never experienced Nalini's writing before, but I can't wait to dive into more.
Shel: Molly, on the surface, appears to be this naive, shy, quiet librarian and I suppose there is a large part of her that has those traits. But really, she's a young woman reacting to the horrible story of her parents. She's learned how to protect herself and not put herself in any position to ever have to live under the media spotlight and be hurt like she was before. Despite the hurts from her childhood, Molly is actually very strong. She knows what she wants and what she doesn't and thus far she's created a life of comfort....until Fox rocks her world.
Court: I knew we were going to get trouble from Molly when she was adamant that she wanted NOTHING to do with the lifestyle that her sister Thea used to make her living as a publicist. She was kind of a wall flower type at first, or really, she wasn't but she wanted to be VERY badly. Her character had to grow on me!
Shel: Zachary Fox is the rock god of rock gods. He's Mr. Sexy Musician Man and can have any girl, any time, no questions asked and while he definitely had a taste of that at the beginning of his career, he's not that guy anymore. He's focused and passionate and a nice guy (with some scar tissue from his past). Once he sets his sights on Molly all of that focus and passion is aimed at her--poor girl did not stand a chance.
Court: I loved that about Fox. He is the epitome of bad boy rocker who makes you want to just fall over at his feet, but he is also way more than that. We find that out as we get to know him, and he quickly became a favorite of mine. Though...how he was with his band mates had me swooning for him even more than the romance. Love a good bromance, people.
Shel: What starts out as a freakin' hot as hell one night stand, quickly becomes more for them both. Fox has no intention of letting her walk away and must patiently await her acquiescence. He knows very quickly that she's someone he needs and isn't willing to give her up. Molly, on the other hand, has absolutely no intention of seeing him past the expiration date; she has her reasons. And while her reasons are justifiable, thank god for her friend, Charlie. Charlie talks some sense into her and manages to get her to rethink her decisions. Court: Charlie is her voice of reason. And I see Charlie having a story soon with T-Rex...can't wait to see what she is getting up to with her own alpha male.
SHel: Here's what I appreciated about this novel:
I love that Fox has to give chase and be patient I love that Molly has no qualms putting him in his place I love that stubborn pride or something equally awful doesn't prohibit them from taking risks and being vulnerable I love the friendships and entanglements and obstacles that must be overcome AND how Fox and Molly do this together I love that while there are some moments of GAH!, mostly this is a love story. You won't want to kill someone while reading it.
I love that Molly and Fox support and protect and take care of each other I'm loving all of the secondary characters and excited to see what happens with them
Court: I really enjoyed this one, eventually. Like I said, I wasn't a huge fan of the beginning, because some of the things he said to her were just a bit OTT for me. Meh, just me, I know. But as the story went on and we got to know their friends...watch out!! I also saw that while this story is pretty awesome, it is a huge set up for the rest of the band and that takes some finesse. You can tell by the foreshadowing that the other guys' stories are concurrently going on, and boy do they all have a lot going on. Can't wait to find out what.
Shel: Great novel! Very much looking forward to the next one(s). Court: Truly, I was nervous at first, but she pulled it off for me by the end.
Shelley: 4 stars Courtney: 4 Stars
When Zachary Fox the bad boy rock star sees Molly Webster, the innocent librarian, smile he knew she was different than anyone he had ever seen. She was genuine, and he had to have her. Molly likes to play it safe but the chance to spend the night with her rock star crush is too tempting to pass up. She believes after a night they will part ways, but she doesn't realize that one night may not be enough for Fox.
Fox is a rich rock star, and he is pure possessive alpha male. He has a reputation as a ladies man and a bad boy. Molly is his total opposite. She is reserved, she hates being the center of attention, and she is inexperienced. It makes you wonder what these two can have in common aside from sexual attraction, but they manage to get under each other's skin.
Nalini Singh is known for her paranormal works, so I was very curious to see how she fared with a change in genre. Aspects of the story were a little over the top, but if you look beneath that there is so much more to the story. What it boils down to is there are two characters that have been damaged by the ones who are supposed to give them unconditional love. I liked watching the relationship progress as they began to tear down walls that they had erected over years. When you look a little deeper you will find something that is not only erotic, but beautiful as well.
There is so much more I am ready to see. I want to know about the other band members and Molly's best friend Charlotte as well. I will definitely continue on with the series. I do have a huge weakness for musicians, but even more I am curious to see how Singh progresses in a different genre.
Rock Addiction Review
One thing to keep in mind when you start this book is that it is pretty unrealistic. The guy pretty much loves her from the very beginning so you have to accept that fact to really enjoy the book. I really loved this book. I have rad many Nalini Singh books recently. I love her Psy-Changling series. This book is similar quality, but it is different. It’s a contemporary romance and is almost like a New Adult. If you don’t like either one of those options then you shouldn’t read it. If you like this author and this genre then you should read this book. I thought it was excellent. She didn’t take the easy way out and make everything about misunderstandings between the couple. The couple actually talked about their issues and actually communicated which I loved. I thought they had a mature relationship. It was different from other books in that way.
Our girl was a librarian and matched every stereotype of that description. She was a little boring, confusing, but she was ok overall. She wasn’t too irritating. I really liked her relationships with other people more than anything. Not only with her man, but also her friends and his bandmates/friends.
One good thing about this book is like others by this author she talks about things that are the focus in her other books in the series. So what that means is htat you want those other books at the same time as you are reading the current one. This is very annoying when the other books are not out.
Our man is slightly ridiculous with the strength of his feelings right off the bat. It probably will bother some people, but it didn’t bug me too much. In this authors other books, there are ‘mates’, ‘soul mates’ and etc. Therefore I expected this even if it is more new adult and contemporary with no paranormal. This author has a good flow to her writing and character development is great.
Really loved it! 4/5 stars!
Molly Webster knows all about being in the public eye and never wants to experience that spotlight again. So when hot rock star, Zachary Fox, catches her eye Molly is uneasy about returning the attention. But she can't seem to help herself. When Fox requests a ride home from a party, Molly knows that she should say no. Any association with Fox threatens to hurtle her fears from the past straight to the present. She's been good for so long though, the temptation to let go for just one night is too great. But when one night turns into one month of passion and pleasure, can Molly keep her heart separate from her body? And will Fox let her?
I didn't even read the blurb for Rock Addiction when I saw it available on NetGalley after seeing Singh's newsletter announcing the upcoming release. All I saw was "Nalini Singh" over a sexy rock star cover and I was sold! Set in Singh's home of New Zealand, a place that I have always wanted to visit, she brings the beautiful country to life on the pages with her eloquent writing style.
Though Rock Addiction is a totally different direction then Singh's paranormal romances, you can still feel the heart she puts behind every book with her writing. Bad boy Zachery Fox, lead singer of School Boy Choir, is a strong, determined character that knows exactly what he wants. He doesn't plays games, he goes after it. I really loved him from the get-go. He is also a very naughty little rock star. *wink, wink* The chemistry between him and Molly burst from the pages. At the beginning, I will admit that Fox and Molly's relationship was purely sexual. And boy was it hot. However, this caused a bit of an emotional disconnect for me but as the story progressed so did the connection between the two and this is when I really started to get lost in the story and never want to leave. You know Fox wants more but Molly is resistant to anything deeper. Molly was a sweet character and someone I think that readers can easily relate to. I liked her ability to communicate her feelings with Fox and vice versa even though she was understandably reluctant at first. The secondary characters were enjoyable to read about as well and Rock Addiction laid down the foundation for the rest of the series and characters, and I am excited to see where they go from here.
Bottom line: Rock Addiction was a sexy and enticing foray into the contemporary romance world for Nalini Singh and I am looking forward to more from this talented and diverse author!
Rock Addiction, Nalini Singh
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews
I love Nalini’s Guildhunter series, so when i saw this I wanted to see how she treats contemporary romance.
So, what did I think? well, Fox is a real star in all ways, both by profession as a top rock star, and by his treatment of Molly. He’s got his own demons from his past to deal with, abandoned by his mother at a young age then sent to boarding school so he was out of her way. Its left him with a distrust of “love” and until now he’s just been careful and wary in relationships. Molly though – soon as he sees her she sparks something in him. She too has her demons from her teens when her father, a strong Family Values Politician was caught out with a teen her age – just 15...and the resulting drama from the press put the final nail on her family life. She’s avoided anything resembling the spotlight ever since, tailoring her life and work to keep well away from anything resembling scandal. Fox though...she’s a real pull to him from the start, and when he proposes a one month fling while he’s staying locally and can keep away from the press she decides it’s time for some fun.
And do they have fun!! Oh yes, and soon the whole band are in love with Molly, she’s become a sort of mother figure to them. She’s so good natured she provides the link they need, away from all the false promises. She doesn’t want anything from Fox and that’s so different to all the usual crew wanting recommendations, discs passing on, names putting forward to producers etc or simply just enjoying expensive presents. Molly doesn’t want any of that – just Fox, just the man himself, his time and person, no extras..and it takes him time to accept it.
Its a real love story between two people with scarred pasts who are treading cautiously, and at times the anger from the past spills over and affects their relationship. I enjoyed this novel very much, great characters, real world building and I felt as if i was there with them. I would have liked a bit  more of the “down” drama, the bits there were just acted as minor speed humps in road map of their relationship, when i want a huge roadblock – and then it’s so good when they are past it. As it was it was lots of happy with some down hiccups...I do want to see what happens with her sister though – and Charlie and the T-Rex!!
Stars: Four and a half, a fun, sexy read. That extra bit of drama would have made that a five from me.
I am a fan of Nalini’s Guild Hunter and Psy-Changling books, so when I saw this new series of hers, I just had to give it a go. I have seen a lot of people conflicted about this book, but I think it was a good introduction to the series and has left it wide open for more in the series, as we were introduced to plenty of interesting side characters.
Molly and Fox (Zachary Fox) cross paths right at the beginning of the book and immediately they have a connection. They hook up and Fox wants to keep seeing Molly while he is in New Zealand. Molly is quite hesitant because of what has happened in her past, but seriously… it’s FOX! Lead singer from Schoolboy Choir (You have to know by now I love Rockers!). Anyway… They spend time together and you could see that Fox wants something more, whereas Molly doesn’t want the complications of his busy lifestyle.
Molly is a little broken because of her past, but I loved how Fox was able to draw her out and show her more about herself and others. He basically sweeps her off her feet and it was sweet to see her let a guy into her life. Fox, well he is just that confident guy who has found someone he wants in his life for good. He is a better person around Molly and his band mates are quick to accept her.
I thought it was a good introduction to the series and I was able to see the complications of the rock world. The passion between Molly and Fox was scorching, and it was great to see them work through all the problems thrown their way. I met a lot of other great characters that I am excited to see more of: Molly’s sister Thea, her bestfriend Charlie, Fox’s friend Kit and the other bandmates – David, Noah and Abe. You could see little glimpses of other relationships forming, so it’ll be exciting to see how things go!
Fox wants Molly. It's an instant lust when he sees her at a party thrown by Molly's sister, who just happens to be his band's publicist. Molly wants Fox too but doesn't believe that this hawt, rockstar god would ever be interested in a shy and reserved librarian. And even if by some crazy twist of fate he did want her there was no way she would follow through on her attraction. Molly has scars, deep emotional scars from a family tragedy/scandal that she was a victim of when she was 15 years old. She doesn't plan on being the center of attention like that ever again, and being with Fox means being right back in the limelight.
Fox takes one look at Molly and knows that she's his. Fox has issues himself but he doesn't plan on letting anything get in his way of making Molly his forever. Yumm...
This is different from Nalini's other books, it's a lot more grittier, naughtier and sexier. Yes, there is A LOT of sex, but lets face facts, Fox is a famous rock star, its gonna happen. He likes to talk dirty, he likes to have sex, he's possessive, he has a temper. Hmm... sounds like typical alpha material to me.
I will admit that I peeked at some of the early reviews coming out on Goodreads before I started reading Rock Addiction and I have to say I don't get why some people are getting so bent out of shape. This book is nothing like her PNR series (which I adore) it's NA, not my usual genre to read but I still loved it. I loved how Fox was determined to work through Molly's fears and insecurities. Yes, Molly had flaws but in no way did I ever feel that she was a TSTL heroine, my heart hurt for the things that she went through at such a vulnerable age. Fox surprised me, for being a bad ass rock star he was committed to Molly from the moment he first saw her. He helped her work through her fears and Molly blossomed from it, and in return Molly's love healed Fox's scars.
This was an engaging, heartbreaking, yet still heartwarming, smexilicious new series that I can't wait to read more of.
There was much that I liked about the book. Molly was a quiet librarian, scarred by her rise to 'fame' in her teens when her father got himself into a compromising situation with a young girl. Molly now above all wants to avoid media interest. I liked her quite a bit, at times I wanted her to show more strength but in many ways she does show she is made of strong material. Through the story she grows as a person and is able to overcome her fears, fears that would make her totally the wrong person for Fox.
Fox too has been scarred by his past, yet he has already risen above it, and with Molly he discovers something that has always been missing in his life. He likes to portray a 'hard rocker' image, but in actual fact he is caring, loyal and wise. David, Abe and Noah his band mates know this side of him. I also enjoyed being introduced to these last three, they all are going to take their turn in the limelight.
This book is well written - I'd expect that from Nalini Singh, I loved the two settings - New Zealand and USA. The exploration of the harm some people can do to make money from the publishing of inappropriate material wrongfully gained added to this book. I also liked the counter balance of the power of the fan world for good.
However what has me decided that this series isn't for me is the HEAT of this book, it is up there on the barometer. If you like hot and sexy, then this book is for you. This book had way too many sex scenes for my liking. It felt like 50% 'in the bedroom' and 50% everything else. I am sure that is an exaggeration - but just saying that's how it felt to me. It's why my personal rating for this book is down. I can understand how others who love this kind of book will rate it higher.
I think you guys are going to like Fox. He’s a rocker, he’s tatted up, and he’s pretty vocal about what he wants. Which is Molly Webster. From the second Fox sees her, it’s on. I’m not exactly a fan of insta-love so I did struggle a bit in the beginning of the book but overall I’m glad I finished it. By the end, Molly and Fox did have a pretty strong bond, after having shared some of their darkest life struggles. Those were my favorite parts of the book; when they were emotionally bonding, sharing, being intimate on a deeper level.
Like most bad boy rockers, Fox has been around the block. What made him stand out to me was that he was already settling down a bit, no longer interested in the groupie scene. I liked that he didn’t just settle down for Molly, having already been heading that way. he’s also super protective, and loves to spoil his girl. Bonus points for that. If you’re a fan of heavy kissing, then you’ll be in heaven. Fox is a kisser. Like, a lot.
I liked Molly, but I did question some of her choices. She had a crappy childhood, an even crappier adolescence, and a seemingly very sheltered adulthood. I get why she was so nervous about dating someone like Fox. The spotlight and Molly have not been friends in the past. What I did take issue with was how easy it was for Fox to bag her. The more I got to know Molly, the more I questioned that choice.
That said, the longer Fox and Molly are together, the more I understand their connection. I was conflicted, as you can tell. But by the end, I was sold on their union. Fox is pretty damn romantic and he isn’t afraid to tell the world who his heart belongs to. I love that about him. 3.5 stars.
When I read the synopsis of this it intrigued me. I have to say I have a weakness for rockers and bikers. Don’t judge, you know you love them to, your just a closet lover…
A bad boy wrapped in a sexy, muscled, grown-up package might be worth a little risk…Meet Zachary Fox lead singer Schoolboy Choir known to his gazillion and one fans as Fox. He’s in
Australia for a month and he’s ready for a nice relaxing hiatus. Sure…Enter Miss Molly…
When was the last time a woman had done that to him the instant she walked into a room? Never. Not even when he’d been a hormone-drunk youth. And the face that he knew she was exactly as she appeared to be, that she wasn't out for fame or money? Yeah, that just made her sexier. No way was he leaving this party without her, the raw need to possess her a violent craving in his gut.
What happens when the hottest rock star asks her to take him home. She does what any hot blooded woman out there, she takes him home and screws his brains out. You so know you would do it. She thinks it’s a one night stand he knows she’s his forever. Now all he has to do is convince her to take a chance on him.
While this was your classic rock book, what was different was that he so wasn't a douche bag. He was the most faithful rocker ever out there. No groupies, no drugs, just him and all his heart to give.. While she take it or will he be singing sappy broken hearted love songs?
This book was such a sweet story with very little angst. I loved that Fox knew what he wanted the whole time. He was on a mission to get Molly to fall for him. Molly was very nervous about continuing a relationship with Fox though because of her background and rightly so. I can only imagine being a "regular" girl and dating a rock star.
There were only a couple things that made the first part of the story a little weird for me. It felt like I was dropped into the middle of a story when I first started reading. There was really no build up. It kind of felt like I missed something. Then the way Molly and Fox first meet seemed a little far fetched based on Molly's characterization and the way Fox seemed to want more than just sex from Molly.
The story was fast paced and we got a lot of sexy times. And Fox knows how to do sexy times. There are also the side stories of their friends which made the whole story seem much more cohesive. It also made me really excited to read all their stories.
This was a fun and easy read of two people who are really genuinely involved with each other for the right reasons. Fox was defiantly swoon-worthy and the best type of book boyfriend.
I’ve been a Nalini Singh fan for years . Her Guild Hunter Series is one of my all time favorite series so of course I could not pass up on reading her attempt at contemporary romance. A rockstar romance at that!
I would have to say that I was quite impressed with her spin on things. Of course we have all the great elements of one hot rocker – charismatic, artistic and off the charts alpha-male sexy but those weren’t the only characteristics that made Fox standout. I loved that he had depth, he was sensitive and caring and oh so passionate. Passionate not only between the sheets but about other matters too.
“I love you…So much. Until it hurts and the hurt is one I want to feel forever.”
I thought that the heroine – Molly was terrific as well. Because of her past she lived one sheltered life yet she was strong and empowered. She matched Fox’s passion perfectly. It was commendable that she never got swept away in the glitz of and glam lifestyle and enjoyed the man underneath the power and fame. I admired her courage – for her willingness to surrender some important aspects of her life to follow her heart.
As like any other story that Nalini Singh has written I thought the romance was terrific. I would have wanted their relationship to have started off differently but despite that there is no denying that Fox and Molly’s chemistry was undeniably off the charts.
Enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to reading how each of the remarkable members of the Schoolboy Choir achieve their HEA’s.
Originally given 3.5 hearts at Rookie Romance.
Molly is very understandably wary of dating someone in the public eye, after her father was embroiled in a scandal when she was younger. So when Fox, rock star sex god, approaches her, she tries to resist and to use her head but it is ultimately futile. Molly was a great character, she's independent and in control of her own line-height which is exactly what she wants. But when things develop between her and Fox she's not afraid to stand up for herself and for them.
Fox is very, very sexy sounding. He has a bit of a temper but I loved that Molly was always able to reach him through his anger. He had a rough childhood and it made him very cautious about love, he has hidden vulnerabilities which made him very sweet towards Molly.
Whilst this wasn't too much like insta-love, Molly and Fox have an immediate connection that burns up the pages. I loved how intense Fox was from the start, Molly never stood a chance at resisting him!
I really liked the secondary characters in the story as well. We meet the rest of the guys in Fox's band and I enjoyed their dynamic. We also get to know Thea, Molly's sister and Charlotte, Molly's best friend, rather well. I'm definitely looking forward to their stories.
Overall this is a thoroughly enjoyable and sexy romance, with a very satisfying conclusion. I'm very eager to see what will come from the rest of the series!
I've said this before I am going to say it again , Nalini Singh can WRITE.She is a great story teller and regardless of the subject I enjoy reading what she writes. This book wasn't an exception, the writing is flawless.
I really enjoyed this book specially the dialogues . I enjoyed both the sexy ones and ones that made me laugh!The set of characters works very well , I really like to read all of their books.
The book has a New Adulty feel to it but I don't think it can be categorized as New Adult.
I really liked that the first part of the book took place in New Zealand. It was a nice change .
The hero was too domineering and controlling for my taste . That's was one of the small things I didn't like about the book.
Another one was the amount of sex , they were having a tad too much sex! They were at it every other page ! Compare to the amount of sex nothing much happened.I would have liked something more in the plot.
With all that said ,I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series .
This is straight forward contemporary romance at it's best and the key word is contemporary . Don't expect anything else!
As a longtime fan of Nalini Singh's work, I began reading Rock Addiction with the understanding that it isn't a Paranormal or SciFi story, rather, it's an edgy, sexy, NA/CR tale. But I have to admit, while I was fully expecting something different from the Guild Hunters and Psy-Changlings type stories, I was hoping she'd bring that same level of unique world building she's become so famous for to Rock Addiction. Again, I have to admit, I didn't get what I was hoping for in that regard, and I guess it's not too surprising because when a story line's been done to death - as bad boy rock stars have been - it's going to be tough coming up with something fresh.
That said, without a doubt, Nalini Singh knows how to tell a story and make it riveting, exciting, passionate, and romantic. While Rock Addiction isn't perfect it's a good start to the series and I'm looking forward to reading more - though I hope Ms. Singh can find a way to put her own unique mark on the genre.
I was so excited to get to read Rock Addiction and I have to say for the most part I did actually really enjoy Molly and Fox’s story. But I did have areas that had me feeling rather niggled.
Now I along with others like a good sex scene and oh boy does Nalini pen a great scene, my one niggle here there was a bit too many sometimes. I also didn’t fully agree with Molly’s reasonings about things, so this niggled in the background with me a lot too.
I then didn’t get why Fox did what he did later in the book, jeez if that is not the way to turn a woman off completely! So that was another niggle.
But I did get behind their relationship and I was routing for them all the way through.
This is a good rockstar romance, Fox comes out with some complete caveman attitude and his life seems almost led by his manparts, even when he meets Molly it’s his third leg doing a lot of the talking although his mind is racing off in other directions. They were a great couple to follow, I definitely want to read on in this series. And strangely enough I am DESPERATE to read Charlotte’s story too! I have been captured with the side story of her and her new boss!
I received a copy of Rock Addiction in return for an honest review, my reviews are my own and are 100% honest.
This was my first book by Nalini Singh and it is a passionate, emotional, sexy and fulfilling story. I loved this book! The writing is incredibly sexy, beginning right from almost the first page when sexy-as-hell rock god Fox meets the shy librarian Molly at a party. It might sound cliched but the story is so well written, and the characters so well-developed, that I was drawn in immediately.
Molly has her reasons for staying out of the spotlight so a good part of the book is spent with her anquishing over stepping into the public arena with a world-famous musician. But she is powerless to resist Fox, a man who knows what he wants and goes after it. This book is fast-paced and takes the reader around the globe to New Zealand, Australia and California. And the supporting characters are fantastic, from Molly's best friend Charlotte to all of the other band members. Can't wait to read more about all these characters.
This was a wonderful story and the sex is incredibly HOT!! The book also created the oh-so-important emotional connection between the main characters. I also absolutely fell in love with Fox! This story is a must-read and is a great begninning to a new series. Highly recommended to all fans of contemporary romance.
Nalini Singh has done it again. I loved this book. My heart broke for both Molly and Fox and the horrible childhoods they both had. I really don't understand how people can be so cruel, especially to children. Enough about that. I loved Fox. He's my sexy new book boyfriend. I loved that he went after what he wanted. I also loved that he wasn't going to let Molly go, even though he didn't have a name for his feelings. Molly made me chuckle with her good Molly and bad Molly personas. I loved how once Molly decided to go all in, she really went all in. They were unbreakable as a couple. Not being one that enjoys reading about meaningless sex, I was very happy that Fox wasn't a typical man whore rock star. He also gave his all to the relationship. I also loved all the side characters. I'm very excited to read David and Thea's story and the 'memos'. I really can't wait to read Molly and T-Rex's book. The way Fox displayed his love for Molly had me swooning. This book is a definite must read.
I'm sure by now you know how excited I was when the news first broke Nalini had written a new adult novel. I heard it in May at the RT convention from the lady herself, and my countdown until the book became available started right away. When the first teasers started rolling out, I knew I was going to love the book.
Molly avoids the limelight due to her past and Fox lives in it. Molly has subdued her personality and Fox is wild and not afraid to live his life. Both of them seem to be the polar opposites of each other, but the sparks that come off the both of them when they're together don't seem to be going away soon. I loved both Molly and Fox. Both of them have stuff from their past that they're trying to handle as adults. Each of them has reacted differently to the trauma, with Molly never wanting to be in the spotlight again to Fox owning who he is and not apologizing for it. I found it fascinating how different their outwards personas were from their true selves. I absolutely loved seeing them come to an understanding with each other and the baggage they each had, and with themselves too.
The story is hot, but it's sweet too. While the story focused mainly on Molly and Fox, I loved how the rest of the band wasn't neglected. It really felt like it was the beginning of everyone's story. There was a strong sense of family and camaraderie I'm used to seeing in Nalini's novels. I loved seeing how the guys took to Molly and how she took to them. I also loved seeing Molly's interaction with her sister.
If I ever doubted Nalini could write anything but an amazing book, this settled any possible doubts. Her characters are well written and down to Earth. You can't help but like them and want them to find a resolution to their issues. The story flows at a quick pace and it's set in some beautiful locations like New Zealand, Australia, and L.A. I read it in one go. I'm very excited to see the Gentleman of Rock, David, will woo Thea. Their story will be out at the end of this month. Nalini has once again written a phenomenal story!
Zachary Fox. Sexy, talented, tattooed Fox. Oooh Fox. Why not me!? That’s basically how I felt the majority of the time while I was reading this book.
Fox is SUPER sexy, super possessive of what’s his (swoon), and yet secretly super sweet at the same time. He’s used to getting what he wants and has a bit of a temper when he doesn’t. He is all danger, excitement, and sin wrapped in one. He had his fun as the big time rock star and has outgrown it, now waiting for the right girl. And he spots her at a party after one of his shows. Molly, the half-sister of his publicist Thea, catches his eye and he can’t seem to let go.
Molly (his Molly) is a librarian (again, why not me?!) who wants NOTHING to do with the spotlight, fame, and everything that comes along with it. Her father, a very well know and idolized politician, was disgraced and surrounded by scandal and a law suit when she was just a teenager. Her mother turned to drink to get herself through it all. Along with that, came the paparazzi intruding into their lives, bullying at school, and in the end Molly was orphaned. All she wants is a simple, normal, boring life. Something that would never happen being involved with a rock star like Fox.
When Molly and Fox meet in an elevator she can’t deny the heat between them. She never does ANYTHING crazy, ever. Why not allow herself this one night of abandonment of her usual safe self? I mean how often does a rock star like Fox come your way and you have the chance to turn one of your fantasies into reality. In her mind, it was just going to be a one night stand, but Fox had a different plan. The one night stand turned into an agreement on a one month secret affair while Fox and the rest of his band, Schoolboy Choir, were taking some time off in New Zealand (Even though Fox had no intention of letting her go after said month). She wanted to stay out of the press, didn’t want all her old dirty laundry to be aired for the world. But as time goes on, she begins to realize that there is so much more than just a secret affair happening between them, and wonders how on earth she’s going to let this man go at the end of the month…
Rock concerts, paparazzi, tabloid scandal, addiction, sex tapes, fast jets, and of course, HOT sex. This book is filled with everything you’d expect and more from a book called Rock Addiction. This book totally pulled me in, I found myself wishing it was me in Molly’s place, being pursued and spoiled by a stunning rock star. There is something to be said about having a man the whole world wants, and he only has eyes for you…
I am a fan of Nalini Singh from way back to her Harlequin days. I was really excited to see her venture out if the paranormal again. I was a little disappointed in this story. Molly was hard to like in the first half of the book. Her character was better in the second half. She appeared to made of stronger stuff. As a matter of fact the book was better in the second part. Fox was your typical alpha rock star. He was possessive with a sweet side. This was ok as a jump off book. I was more interested in the other characters and their stories. I really want to read about Charlie and T-Rex.
Holy hotness! This book is one sex episode after another. Then again, the plot kinda leans that way. After all, this was supposed to be a one night stand... then 30 days.... then.... And who wouldn't want sex with a sex-on-a-stick rock god like Fox? They did watch each other from a far.
A few things bothered me with Molly. If you held on to your virginity until you were 24, would you give it up for a one night stand with a guy you haven't talked to all night? Molly also seemed to be really holding on to an event in her life that happened years ago. She wasn't even the one involved, but she had to deal with the fall out of the event.
Even though there were things that annoyed me, I still enjoyed the story. It wasn't one that I just couldn't put down, but one that I could easily walk away from and pick up later.
Nalini Singh is one of my auto-buy authors. I’ve never read anything of hers that wasn’t well crafted. Rock Addiction is very different than Ms. Singh’s paranormal works. This is a hard rocking, hard sexing, rock and roll contemporary romance. Bad boy rocker Zachary Fox is just as alpha in his own way as any of the other heroes Ms. Singh has written and librarian Molly Webster is smart, sassy, and stronger than she knows. When these two come together magic happens. Put aside your expectations and enjoy the ride.
Review of Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh
The book is about a hot Rockstar, Zachary Fox, who falls in love with a librarian, Molly Webster and does everything in his power to keep his Molly. To be together both have to leave their baggage behind. Molly has to overcome her fear of public humiliation and Fox needs to realize that Molly won't abandon him. As the story continues Molly learns how to deal with the press so even when the press invades their privacy they become stronger as a couple. Fox learns to trust Molly.
I love Fox because he isn't the typical Rockstar. He is loving and caring and never hides how much he adores Molly.
I like Molly as she is a normal woman with the insecurities every woman has which makes her credible in my eyes.
I really loved the book and can recommend it to everyone who has a weakness for sweet and hot Rockstars.
Struggled with where to rate this. Part 2 of this book would probably get 4 stars from me but Part 1 might not even get 2. I read romance but tstl sex is a pet peeve. The events in Part 1, instant sex/love affair, just not believable given the characters. Read like a sexed up new adult romance complete with teen age angst. Part 2 was much better and the characters as portrayed there much more interesting. Part 2 enough for me to continue reading the series in hopes the rest are more like Part 2 than Part 1.
Zachary Fox is hot as sin rocker who sees Molly across the room at a party and know with out a doubt that he has to have her. Molly is a good girl who has never walked on the wild side but wants to she wants a one-night stand with this bad boy rocker whereas he wants more.
This book was one of those that i could not put down. Fox is the perfect alpha, dominant, and possessive rocker that we all fall in love with. I am very excited to read the next book in the series...
I like all the books in this series. The author makes the main characters likeable and flawed, but not too flawed as to be non-redeemable. They work through their issues while tension builds between them. There's always a little fresh twist in each of these books. A good read.
2.5stars. It is what you would expect from a Nalini Singh book, so the writing is smooth, the scenes well executed. But heavens! It seemed like that there were sex scenes between H/h written in EVERY chapter. The main character and plot development seemed to be in the sex scenes and there are many of them. Shockingly (for me!) i found myself flipping over those scenes faster and faster, looking in anticipation for the Story. If you are used to the action filled adventures in Ms Singh's books, this is not the book for you. If you enjoy love at first sight - the H clocks the unsuspecting h almost on first sight (and on page 1, no less - and the h jumps in bed after a very perfunctory meeting with the H. So suspend disbelief) - and a plotline all about how the H very slowly pulls the h into the realisation of their special connection ( eventually leading to the requisite hea), you might like this. For me, it was an Meh read; not a NS classic bordering on boring, i added a half star for the nicely executed sex scenes.
I received this book via Netgalley for an honest review.
Once in a while I’m left unsure when it comes to how to rate a book. It’s not often, but sometimes I have mixed feelings and it’s difficult to explain what didn’t work for me in a book. This one is one of those books.
I love reading rock star romance novels. I more often than not love these books, have fun reading the romance unfolding quite often between a rock god and a girl who is basically nobody. I mean, if done correctly it’s great.
But Rock Addiction isn’t the addiction I was expecting and the way the plot is built, the narration and even the writing didn’t blow my mind. I enjoyed some parts, had fun and loved reading about the band’s dynamic, but the “bad’’ is outweighing the good for me. But keep in mind that I did “enjoy” this book, just not to the point of wanting to read the next ones in the series or not to the point of remembering this book in a few months.
Since this book is the first one in a series, but can be read as a standalone because apparently the next ones will be focusing on the other band members, I think some things are not well-introduced in the plot. You can see some stories intertwining regarding the other band members, but in the end the lack of info regarding them while still supposedly teasing to read their stories later on is not something that worked on me. Actually it made me roll my eyes when I realized that it was used and done several times throughout the novel. At first I thought it was a misshap. I like it when in a series stories are intertwined somehow, but here since the plot itself isn’t that thrilling and nothing significant happens it bothered me. A lot.
I know it’s harsh to state that nothing really happens, but to a certain extent it’s true. Fox and Molly’s relationship was never really threatened, their romantic involvement evolved in such a way that in my opinion there’s not build up and it’s almost like insta-love. Even their insta-lust wasn’t all that convincing in my opinion.
Also, I don’t like it when several scenes are happening off page and merely mentioned in passing when it’s obvious that it’s rather important. The first example that comes to my mind it’s the meaning behind one of Fox’s tattoo. (Don’t worry, it’s not a spoiler).
Then there’s also the fact that I think that the characters’ background isn’t used that well. It’s fractured and I think Molly blurted things a little too easily. In the end, I think the emotional side of this story could have been a wonderful tool to use to bring that love story to epic proportion and in the end the emotion is not much present, sometimes even lacking to instead leave much more room to the lust between Fox and Molly, lust that didn’t pick my interest as I was expecting it to.
Also, sometimes some dialogues don’t strike me as natural. Mostly in the first half of the book. Is it because I needed to warm up some more to the characters? Maybe. I’m not sure.
In the end, maybe I’m disappointed because I had a lot of expectation for this book, but it’s not a Rock Romance I’m particularly fond of.
Though, I think Noah and Abe’s stories have some potential. Will I read these installments? Right now I’m really not sure, but nothing is set in stone.
OMG!!! This is possibly THE best book I've read this year! Now, I feel I should disclose the fact that I'm a huge Nalini Singh fan, I LOVED her Psy/Changeling series. So I may be a little biased, but on the other hand I was going into this book with incredibly high expectations and still had my mind blown! So biased or not, that is still bloody impressive! While I said I think this is the best book I've read this year (because come on, there have been so many great ones) I can state, with absolute certainty, that this was my favourite of all the ARC's I've ever had the pleasure of reading for review.
Right, now I've got the fan-girly gushing out of the way, I'll tell you the things I loved about this book.
First off, Zachary Fox. Everyone needs to meet and fall in love with this book boyfriend. He's like, the perfect man! He should be cloned and every woman should have their very own Fox. (Totally ignoring the fact he isn't real lol.) Fox is the lead singer in a rock band. He's charismatic and charming, kind, protective and totally alpha, and not forgetting ridiculously hot!
Molly, our female lead is a mild mannered librarian. She meets Fox at a party she attends as her sister's guest. Her sister being the publicist for Schoolboy Choir, Fox's band. It is definitely lust at first sight for Molly but it doesn't seem as though Fox even notices her. When Molly decides to head home early from the party, only to have Fox catch up to her at the elevator, it seems she was mistaken about him not having noticed her. Completely out of character for Molly she agrees to take Fox home with her. And so commences a story that I just adored and could not put down.
Molly and Fox's relationship develops at a realistic and believable pace, not rushed as some stories can be portrayed. There are some really sweet, heart-melty moments but there are also some hot, panty-melting moments, a true all-rounder!
The background characters in this book really fascinated me aswell. I loved Molly's best friend Charlotte, I really hope there will be a book for her because she has stuff going on in her life that we only hear tid bits of during her conversations with Molly. I'm dying to hear her story!
There are little sort of hints and tasters dropped here and there that suggest there will be books about the other characters, Molly's sister being one of them and of course, Charlotte. I can't wait for these. In fact, I believe Rock Courtship is coming to us soon! Mark your diaries!
Everyone who knows me, knows that Nalini Singh is one of my all-time favourite authors. I adore her Psy-Changeling series and I love the Guild Hunter Series (Raphael and Elena everyone…?!?) So I was jumping up and down from joy when I not only found her latest book on Netgalley - a book about a Rockstar, no Archangels or shapeshifters.. no a sexy, hunky, tattooed Rockstar - AND I got approved in reading it in advanced and write a review for it, before it gets released in September this year! Yeah… I admit…. I Squeeled! Then I also did a happy dance when Nalini also interacts with me on Twitter - Yup a true fangirl I am haha.
Let me get back to this hunky Rockstar called Fox! Well he did rock my boat, his sexy scenes with Molly are through the roof, so hot but also so gentle and caring. Something that should’ve been a one-night stand has now turned into something else, something more, something we all want from a relationship - Love.
The book is divided in Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 basically is the slowburn of how Molly and Fox meet each other and how they start to develop their relationship and how to deal with their past mostly. I loved the little insights in Molly’s friends - Charlie (Don’t you just love that name ^_^ - and her sister Thea. Those two are the rocks in her live and I think everyone deserves a friend like that but also a sister like that. I already guessed from the beginning that Fox wasn’t going to let her go, after they agreed to be exclusively together for just a month. That also becomes blatantly clear when Fox basically admits that, not to Molly, but to us as the readers. Because this book is written from a 3rd POV but points from both Molly and Fox.
Molly is just being Molly and wants to stay as much out of the spotlights as she can, thanks to her past. She develops nice friendships with the rest of the band and becomes slowly not only Fox’s rock but also the other members rock to lean on, but also to protect her from any harm. It is after all Fox’s heart they are protecting right?
Part 2 is quite fast paced as we go into details how they actually deal with being in a relationship out in the open - as Molly has agreed to be with Fox. I loved this part as it shows how strong Fox and Molly are and have become. Each relationship has their flaws, but Molly is fierce towards Fox, and vice versa. They have to deal with all the crap that comes with being in the spotlight - horrible journalists (or people that call themselves that). You find groupies, corrupt guards and a backlash on the internet when some things get made public.
But Molly learns to deal with her past and that was wonderful to see - She turned into a fierce and loyal and strong heroine who has bagged herself a handsome Rock Star! Man oh Man, isn’t that almost everyones dream?
I would definitely recommend this book - but the audience to read should definitely be 18+ otherwise you might be shocked ^_^. I absolutely loved and adored this story and can’t wait to read more from the other band members - each have their secret and I want to explore more and more. I want to know how Fox and Molly are doing in the spotlight and just overall how Schoolboy Choir is doing - as they’ve just gained another Superfan: ME!
This is a wonderful story by Nalini Singh, who definitely knows how to write interesting characters, a beautiful developed relationship and sparks, which will burn you. As I was not so lucky with my last few books in regards to sizzling, hot feelings and sparks, this was definitely what I needed.
This story is about Fox, a very successful rock star, who falls in love with Molly. But Molly is scarred and can’t cope with the spotlight. Although I am wary about love at first sight, Mrs. Singh did a wonderful job in this story. The building of the relationship was so beautifully done and both, Fox and Molly, were great characters. Fox is a delicious Alpha male who has to fight his own demons. I loved that the story shows both POVs as this makes the experience far more satisfying
Their story shows how to conquer your fears and how to overcome your internal scars, was heart-wrenching and full of sparks. I loved how they worked through their troubles and stood together
The secondary characters are also full of life and so vividly portrayed that I fell in love with all of them! I can't really decide, who is my favorite ... I first voted for David, than fell for Noah ... but as you get to know more about Abe ...
Nevertheless, there are some things, which dampened my enjoyment a bit. The first half is well divided in both POVs, but the second part mainly shows Molly. It is good to see how she works through her fears. But we don’t see so much of Fox, which is a shame as Fox also has his demons to fight and seems a bit less developed in this part.
The second thing is, yes, I adored Fox as well, but there was a bit too much admiration for him … after the first part, his physique was quite clear to me ;)
All in all it was an amazing story and something I really needed.
I can’t wait for Davids story and I really, really count on a book about Charlotte … there has to be a story with T-Rex – pretty, pretty please!
I started this book not knowing what to expect. This is my first read of Nalini Singh’s, and from what I know of her, she is a highly respected paranormal author – so what would I think of a rock star romance book of hers? Love it…hate it, throw it and my Kindle out the window and pretend I never read it? None of the above – I effing devoured this book. Now, at the beginning, I have to say I was a little hesitant. Our lead man Fox, when he first meets Molly he is insta-stuck to her, he knows right off the bat, deep in his bones that she is the only one for him. It took me a little bit to buy that, would a rock legend such as himself really have that kind of a reaction to a beautiful girl? The farther I got into the book , and the more I learned of Fox’s past and the type of man he is (a possessive, hot tempered, sex on a stick alpha), it all came together for me. Sometimes, love hits you like that – and it takes a strong man to realize those feelings and fight for what he wants. That man ladies, is Zachary Fox.
Molly Webster leads a quiet life. Hiding from a scandal that rocked her world years earlier, she has completely transformed herself – spending her days working in the library she loves and surrounding herself with a few close friends. Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine that the sexy, living legend Zachary Fox would be interested in someone like her. Their first meeting at a party Molly attends with her publicist sister Thea, has Molly feeling drawn to Fox and fantasizing about what’s underneath the rock star persona the world sees. When Fox shows blatant interest in her, she throws caution to the wind and engages in a whirlwind one-month only affair – sure to be the most thrilling time of her life, but also the most heartbreaking. The closer the two become, the easier it is for Molly to let down her walls and begin to envision a life beyond the one-month expiry date of their relationship.
This is one of those love stories that wraps around your heart and doesn’t let go. The way that Fox and Molly are attuned to each other, the way they fight for what they want, well, isn’t that what we’re all looking for? The kind of love that’s all consuming, that you feel with every fiber of your being. Molly and Fox have that, and the way that its portrayed is beautiful. Fox is a man that is as possessive as he is caring, is as dominating as he is tender. Molly heals a part of him that he doesn’t know is broken – the two complete each other in every way.
Now of course, with Fox being as famous as he is – their path isn’t an easy one. The vultures come out to play, looking for blood and any scrap of humanity that they can find. The press thrives on conflict and pain and they certainly do their best to tear apart the bonds so carefully built between our two characters. What lengths would you take to keep the one you love? Is love strong enough to survive the ultimate tests? This is a book you need to experience for yourself, love it or hate it – Zachary Fox is the rock god in the bedroom and he definitely knows how to feed the best kind of addition – him.
This is the first book by Nalini Singh that isn't paranormal. I read 2 of her previous paranormal books and loved them. She has a way of telling a story that pulls you so far into it that you forget about everything around you. Who hasn't had a fantasy about a rock star? Well most of us have. Zachary Fox is the picture perfect rock star with the tattooed and pierced body that fantasies are made of. From the moment Molly and he lay eyes on each other their minds start to wander. Fox wants Molly and that is all that he can think about. She thinks it's one night and that she's just giving into a dream a crazy moment of lust. Fox knows differently and he is set on a quest to steal and capture her heart.
“Open for me, baby.” He bit her lower lip as she’d bitten his, caught her startled whimper in a kiss. “I want in.”
I fell hard for this honest, loyal and dirty talking rocker. I haven't enjoyed a rocker like this in a long time. He swept me away with his sweet talking and erotic persuasions. Zachary Fox had a way of making Molly feel like the most precious person in the world.
They had obstacles to overcome and these weren't the every day ordinary ones that most couples need to go through. Molly hates the lime light and Fox lives in it. His entire being screams PROTECT and that is what he is determined to do.
Touch by touch, kiss by kiss, he gentled her, seduced her, the raw sexual possessiveness he always felt when it came to Molly tempered by a vicious protectiveness.
I was captivated by every page and lost in the romance. I can't wait for the next installment and there are so many different stories to be told that I am going to be counting the days.
I freaking loved it!! I'm really confused by all the low reviews for this book. If people liked this the least of all of her work, then her other books are going to blow my mind. Geesh, tough crowd I guess.
Rock Addiction was awesome! I haven't felt this way about a rock star since Jake Wethers! Seriously! Fox was scorching! I couldn't find a single thing to dislike about it. The only thing I wish is that the book hadn't ended. I want more Fox! I also thought Molly was very cool and was worthy of him and sometimes that's not always easy to find.
I AM A FAN!
When I think of Paranormal Romance, Nalini Singh is one of the first people that come to my mind. Yup, this awesome writer is one of my goddesses of PNR. But before she wrote all those hot shifters, vampires, and angels, I loved her as a contemporary romance author. Imagine my delight when I found out that she wrote a New Adult Rock Star romance. I was thrilled, and at the same time, worried because she is a PNR writer now and I was worried that I might get disappointed. But still, I have to read it. I did and I'm glad I did.
Rock Addiction is a story about a straight-laced librarian named Molly Webster. She’s never the one to break rules and propriety, and hell-bent on maintaining an orderly and ordinary life – that is until she saw Zachary Fox, the sexy, brooding vocalist of School boy Choir. Throwing all caution to the air, she indulges herself to one night of passion with the sexy rocker. And that’s how it should be, just one night. Unfortunately, Fox has other plans. From the first moment that Fox saw Molly, he wanted her to be in his bed and in his life - and he will do everything to make her his. Even if it means letting Molly believe that what they have is temporary. But Fox is a rock god. And Molly, once burned by the media’s spotlight, wants nothing to do with fame. Can Fox convince Molly that what they have is worth trying for? And can Molly stand the intrigue and women that come with Fox’s fame? Then you better read Rock Addiction to know the whole story. *wink*
I got three words for you: INTENSE STEAMY HOT. This book got me fanning myself in most of the chapters. The chemistry between Fox and Molly is explosive. And there are lots of explosive scenes in the book. Nalini Singh didn’t lose that extra special something she puts in her alpha heroes that makes me love them to death. Yup, Fox is as intense as any other alpha heroes from Singh’s PNRs. You know, the signature “She’s mine. I need to have her” kind of alpha attitude that always takes my breath away. I’m not a big fan of rock star heroes but Fox is way, way hot. I also like Molly, though she’s a bit frustrating sometimes, especially in the middle part. But overall, she’s a nice girl and I love how she was shown as a real woman in the book. Real woman in the sense that she was not portrayed as the perfect gorgeous girl we typically read in novels. She has flaws and that made her more adorable. I also like the other characters in the story, particularly David the Drummer and Thea, the band’s publicist and Molly’s sister. I’m really curious about the string of emails between him and Thea which was mentioned in the book. I can’t wait for Book 1.5 to read all about it.
Writing-wise, Rock Addiction is way better than good. I can’t fault the writing. It’s beautifully written and the story is smooth flowing. But that is already expected because duh, IT’S NALINI SINGH! One of the best romance writers there is. Story-wise, I love it. I don’t mind insta-love. Hell, I’m a hardcore PNR fan and insta-love is almost a given in every PNR book. It’s in the way the story was told and tis book is written by a master storyteller. If you will look past the over-abundant sex scenes in the story (yep, there’s too much sex! And I don’t know if I should complain or not. Lol!), you’ll see a beautiful story of a woman broken by people who should have loved her and how she faced all her fears to be with the man she loves. It’s all about taking chances and learning to trust again after others kicked you when you were at your lowest.
I don’t really have anything to complain about in the book, except maybe for the overloaded sex scenes. But I’m still thinking if it’s really a bad thing or not. Well, I liked it but maybe it wouldn’t have hurt if it was lessened just a little bit.
I’m giving Rock Addiction 4.5 STARS. It was a great book and I enjoyed reading it that I’m now looking forward to the next book. I would definitely recommend this to all new adult and rock star romance fans. And also to all Nalini Singh fans who want to read her books from a different genre. This is a good story to start.
*I was given a complimentary copy of Rock Addiction in exchange for an honest review.
Rock Addiction is my very first Nalini Singh book. Many of my book friends have tried to get me to read her books for a few years now. I'm just not a shifter/urban fantasy romance fan. However, I know that her writing is incredible from all the raves from my friends. So when I found out she was writing a rock star romance, I jumped all over the opportunity to read an early copy! Rock Addiction is packed full of all my favorite things I love about this genre: an engaging plot with all the rock star lifestyle angst, well written characters, and really hot sex!
The book begins with an introduction to mousy librarian Molly Webster. She is at a party for the ultra popular band Schoolboy Choir and finds herself drawn to the lead singer Zachary Fox. She know this hot tattooed rock god is completely out of her league, but that doesn't keep her from lusting after him. After leaving the party with only her fantasies of Zachary, Molly's world is changed forever when this man approaches her in the parking garage. Little does she know that Zachary noticed Molly during the party and couldn't take his eyes off her.
Rock Addiction isn't terribly original. Many of the scenes have been done in some of my favorite rock star reads. But that's not to say Nalini doesn't do them justice. One of the reasons I love the rock star romance genre is for the angst and drama of the rock lifestyle. The scenes she writes involving the groupies, paparazzi, and jealousy that comes with loving a man who is coveted all over the world is top notch. I found myself feeling all of Molly's emotions when she had to deal with the nasty side effects of Zachary's job. And call me a shameless whore, but I loved all the sex scenes in this book. Why else would I read this genre if not to live out my fantasies with a unobtainable hot rock star through a nerdy librarian who loves to read? That could totally be me! Well, minus the librarian job. I enjoyed the banter between the characters and the secondary story lines. Nalini effectively sets up plots for future books, which I really like.
I had a few issues with the book. I didn't feel there was enough back story with Molly. You only get the scandalous part of Molly's past and not much about her relationship with Thea. I found the idea that Molly is a virgin to be a little implausible. Typically this sort of thing doesn't bother me and I can suspend disbelief a bit. But because Molly's character seem much more mature, I had a hard time doing that this time.
Despite the missteps, I enjoyed Rock Addiction. I like that Nalini Singh stepped out of her shifter/fantasy realm to give contemporary romance a try. Her characters are engaging, the plot is fun, and the romance is super sexy. I cannot wait for the follow up novella with Thea and David's character. I give Rock Addiction four out of five stars!
Fox is the lead singer of the band Schoolboy Choir along with his three best friends (David, Noah, and Abe). His childhood was not a good one. He was abandoned by the very people who were supposed to love and nurture him. Instead Fox was raised by his grandparents. They loved him, but starting life with rejection will leave behind scars. Now he is rich and famous and living his dreams. The band finished their tour and decided to take a month long vacation in New Zealand, the final stop of their tour. Fox is sitting in a bar when the very lovely Molly ensnares him from across the room. He doesn’t know or understand the magnetic pull he has to the mystery woman, but he is determined to have her.
Molly has had enough scandal in her life to last her several lifetimes. Her father was a politician and his extracurricular activities caused extreme pain and shame to his family. Her mother turned to the bottle and let alcohol soothe her pain. One questionable car accident took the life of both her parents. Molly suffered enormously when her friends abandoned her and other classmates starting talking badly about her due to the actions of her parents. She was determined to leave her past behind her and live a tame normal life steering clear of any attention. Now, sitting in a bar unable to take her eyes off the rock god, Fox, she is suffering an internal battle. Her sister is the publicist for the band and lets Molly know that she can arrange an introduction, but Molly turns it down preferring to live out her fantasies inside her head.
Molly is leaving the bar and Fox follows in hot pursuit. A proposition is made for one night. A counter proposition is made for one month. They agree to a fling for the month that the band will be in New Zealand. There are strict rules put into place in order to protect Molly from the public eye because she cannot handle anymore scandal and her past being brought back to life. So what happens during that time when feelings are developing? Molly knows she cannot be with Fox in a real relationship because of Fox’s very public life, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting it. Fox is determined to bide his time and tries his best to seduce Molly into taking the plunge with him. Will it work out? Will they be able to find a happy median?
There are some very hot sexy scenes in this book! Fox is an animal in the sack! Loved it! His character was fierce. I fell hard for his band mates too. I can’t wait to read their books! For the most part, I really enjoyed this book. I’d say 80% of it had me hooked. The other 20% seemed like unnecessary filler. The story started to drag on a bit. However, I still would recommend this book to a friend. I am definitely going to read the next book in the series. Fox will leave you panting and I hope the rest of the band does too!
BOOK SYNOPSIS
A bad boy wrapped in a sexy, muscled, grown-up package might be worth a little risk…
Molly Webster has always followed the rules. After an ugly scandal tore apart her childhood and made her the focus of the media’s harsh spotlight, she vowed to live an ordinary life. No fame. No impropriety. No pain. Then she meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin, and a touch that could become an addiction.
A one-night stand with the hottest rock star on the planet, that’s all it was meant to be…
Fox promises scorching heat and dangerous pleasure, coaxing Molly to extend their one-night stand into a one-month fling. After that, he’ll be gone forever, his life never again intersecting with her own. Sex and sin and sensual indulgence, all with an expiration date. No ties, no regrets. Too late, Molly realizes it isn’t only her body that’s become addicted to Fox, but her heart…
My Thoughts
Automatic auto-read/buy author Nalini Singh totally nailed this contemporary bad boy rocker romance just like she has done for years with her other works in the PSY_Changeling series beginning in 2006(to date there are 14 books) and Guild Hunter series starting in 2009 (there are 8 books so far) for me and a multitude of other longtime as well as new fans.
From the very beginning of this it was such an easy read to become involved with, we meet the four members of Schoolboy Choir and learn how they got together, bits and pieces of each of the guys past, how the groups name came about and best of all Fox and Molly’s story is not all moonbeams and rainbows but instead we are treated to a fairly decent interpretation of what an ordinary young woman would face when she falls in love with a young man whose life has no privacy as far as the media is concerned.
Right now after finishing am very much on the fence as whose story really needs to be next, Abe David or Noah’s but for sure am looking forward to it when it is written and released for readers to enjoy.
Raw, sexy, honest and so very very what I would expect from one of my favorite authors!
I am so excited to have found out this new series was in the works and now after reading this first book am chomping at the bit wanting more and know other fans of rock star romance will be as well.
Rock Addiction was my first Nalini Singh book and before I started I read that she normally does PNR so I was interested to see how this story came across. I did like this book but I didn’t love it. It is a very cliched Rocker Romance. It has the hot, tattooed frontman, the 24yo virginal librarian and lots of sex, some drugs and of course, rock’n’roll.
Zachary Fox is the lead singer for world famous band Schoolboy Choir. While attending a party he notices a woman who’s smile captivates him immediately. He is drawn to her in a way he has never experienced and from that point on his main goal is to get this woman…..and possibly even for more than one night.
Molly notices Fox across the room at her sister, Thea's, party. He is gorgeous and all she can think about is biting on his lip ring. She notices the strange feelings consuming her when he is surrounded by other woman and tries to push them away. When she goes to leave, he makes his move and next thing you know she is taking him home for the night.
This is very much an insta-love story, but the strange thing is it is also a really long book. It felt like it took me days to read. You would think an insta-love story would be a quick read but this wasn’t at all. The writing is VERY descriptive and at times it was too much, and if you don’t like to read copious amounts of sex scenes then this book is definitely not for you.
Once you get past the whole “virgin takes rock star home for a one night stand” aspect the story is enjoyable. Molly’s insecurities about being in the limelight are completely understandable when you discover her past and I liked how dedicated Fox was to making her his. There is the expected drama that goes along with a rock band and a new relationship but the honesty between the Fox and Molly was refreshing. I always enjoy books with dual POV’s too, I think it helps you get inside the story more by understanding where both characters are coming from and another thing I really liked was the support characters. I am really looking forward to reading David & Thea’s story in Rock Courtship, due out Oct 2014 and I really hope we see Charlie and T-Rex’s story soon too. The little tidbits we get on them has me intrigued!!
The raw need to possess her a violent craving in his gut. She wanted to bite his lower lip, wanted to tug on the silver ring that pierced one corner of the delicious, toe curling mouth. Mostly she wanted to bite down and taste the badness of him. Molly barely survived her first brutal brush with fame as a shocked and scared fifteen year old. Molly learned her lesson about reality versus dreams as a teenager, once destroyed some dreams could never be resurrected. Thea has three rules never sleep with clients, never sleep with clients and never sleep with clients. Zach followed Molly out of the party and into the elevator. They went to her place to have sex, when Molly told him that he needs to go slow because she isn't experienced. Molly thinks that Fox and her just had a one night stand but Fox has other ideas. Fox always goes after what he wants no holds bar. She agreed to a one month stand with Fox only if after the one month was up he will never contact her again.
Molly works at a library, she is 24 years old and she is a virgin. She doesn't want to be in the spot light because of what happened to her. Charlotte is Molly's friend she is very fierce and strong. She wants to be like Molly. Zachary Fox is 27 years old, has a lot of tattoos, he is Thea's most important client. He is intelligent, talented and nice. Patience isn't his strong suit. He is the singer for the School Boy Choir. Thea is Molly's older sister, she is 29 years old and she is a publicist. David Rivera is the drummer for the School Boy Choir, is Fox's friend. Has a crush on Thea. Noah is part of the School Boy Choir, David and Fox's friend. Abe is part of the School Boy Choir and he is Fox's friend.
I fell in love with this story from start to finish. I couldn't put this story down, I loved that the characters were very well developed. I also liked that Molly and Fox both had their demons that they had to work thorough. I loved Nalini Singh's style of writing and this is my first book by Nalini and it most definitely will not be my last. Nalini is a very talented author and I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
I am a mega fan of Nalini Singh’s paranormal books so when I heard she had written a Rock Star Romance I was over the moon excited. I must admit though the feel of this book was different to her previous books (and as it should be!) but I liked it. A lot. For me Fox made the read. He was lush!
Molly is hiding away from a previous family scandal so to find herself faced with the chance of a one night stand with her favourite but very famous rock star she is in a quandary. Happy to say that didn’t last long though and Fox was just too irresistible to say no to.
I did find the first part of the book to be a little over the top with the insta lust and unbelievable that the shy and repressed Molly who was also a virgin just leapt into bed for a one night stand with Fox. However as the story transgressed and the one night turned into a month’s contract, I found myself warming to Molly and getting where she was coming from. I did think she would turn out to be one of those annoying, whiny heroines but she surprised me. I liked her. Fox on the other hand was immediately lickable….err I mean lovable. He was hot, dirty and delish!
I loved the interaction of Molly and Fox. After the first phase of how they got together the rapport between them was great with an amazing chemistry. I liked that Fox was not the usual brash rock star (although at times he could deliver this behaviour) he also had a caring and sensitive nature, which drew the reader to fall more in love with him. His multi-faceted persona was an attractive pull.
The secondary characters were an interesting bunch as you would expect with a rock band. The differing personalities and behaviours gave some great background and introduces a sound basis for future books in the series.
I thought Rock Addiction was a great introduction to the Rock Kiss series. The next book, Rock Courtship is book 1.5 in the series and the novella tells the story of David and Thea. A definite One Click for me. Four and a half stars.
Let me set the record straight right from the start... if there is a rocker in a book, I will read it. My love of music and charisma a true rocker must have, is more than my will power can resist. Having said that, I need my rocker to be charismatic, alpha, full of complexities to his psyche, and make super hot love. This book more than satisfied my requirements!
We have here a love story between an established, Greek god, super famous rocker (Fox) and a librarian who is hiding from life (Molly). Two more opposites cannot exist, right? Molly of course has seen pictures in magazines, etc. of Fox and his band. As the lead singer, he is alpha, in control and amazing to look at. Molly has had a crush on him since forever and now that the band is in town, Molly cannot stay away. Thea, Molly's sister is the publicist for the band. This is how Molly ends up at a party where the band is being honored. One little twist... Fox is stricken from the moment he sets eyes on Molly. No matter what, he has promised himself, he must have Molly. This is how their one-night-stand happens. Talk about HOT! Fox is a master of seduction and Molly does not stand a chance. One night leads to an agreement for one month... and well, our story grows from there.
These characters are so alive. Besides Molly and Fox, I want to find out if Charlie will come out of her shell and deal with T-Rex; what on earth did David write in those "memos" that convinced Thea to even look at him; if Kit and Noah will ever be able to be in the same room without growling at each other; and finally, if Abe will ever heal and move on with his life. I was able to experience all their emotions through the marvelous writing of our author Nalini Singh. This is my first book by her and it will not be my last. This is a standalone novel in a series. I will definitely be looking for more books about them.
Rock Courtship is the next standalone in this series. It is David's and Thea's story. Cannot wait to read it.
This book starts with what appears to be a passionate one night stand. The storyline continues at a break-neck pace, but it never really feels like it. And despite the fact that the romance happens in such a short timeframe, it never seems rushed or that things are happening too fast.
I’m not usually a fan of the older-than-average-virgin scenario, but in this book it really works. And I have to say, I loved the fact that it was the shy virgin, rather than the jaded rockstar, pushing for the relationship expiration date.
In the beginning Molly has so compacted and repressed her life that she has, in essence, caged herself. This is especially interesting in that no one—least of all Molly—even realizes that she’s unhappy. I liked the subtleties of her character as her point of view—but not her personality—changed throughout the book. In contrast, Fox seemed quite stable and grounded from the start. He is smart, quite dominant, sweet yet bluntly honest, and blatantly sexual. That his angst and issues were so much less obvious and took longer to surface is a testament to the skill of this author.
This couple had a lot of conflicting issues to wade through. So much so, that the book is suspenseful in that I had to wonder, on several occasions, if there was even going to be a HEA. Not to say that the story is overly dramatic, because it is not. Just that the H/h are very different, and for a great deal of the book it seems that there are more reasons why their relationship won’t work, than reasons it will.
Passionate, sexy, and somewhat anxiety-inducing, this has definitely become one of my favorite books of this year. And I cannot wait to read the next one.
**For the sake of full disclosure it must be stated that I received this book, free of charge, from Netgalley.**
Rock Addiction is book 1 in the Rock Kiss Series by Nalini Singh. After reading the synopsis of the book I was instantly intrigued and could not wait to get my hands on it.
"A one-night stand with the hottest rock star on the planet, that’s all it was meant to be…"
Rock Addiction had all the ingredients of book that has you craving to get you hands on it...Hot synopsis, even hotter cover, and all those sizzling teasers.
"Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin..."
Fox is the scorching lead singer of a rock band, considered a rock God by most. He has bad boy written all of him with his tattoos and aggressive attitude.
Molly is sweet, innocent, naïve, and running from the drama caused by her family. She virtually wants to stay invisible.
Fox and Molly meet at a party...fall in insta love with a one night stand.
After a few pages of this book I just wasn't connecting with the story. I read on hoping that things would get better, but they never did,
I had to force myself to continue on at times because of the lack of connection with the story.
I have absolutely know problem with insta love. In fact I have read several books of insta love that I adored but unfortunately this was not one of them.
I found the story of 24 year Molly losing her virginity to a rock star in a one night stand not believable at all. It just didn't feel right. And that left me not connect with the plot.
The positive about the book was that their was some very well-written, steamy sex scenes! The sex was Hot!
This was not the a terrible book. Just nothing special and I doubt I'll be so worked up about getting my hands on the next one.
I love Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter paranormal series, so when this book came up for review, it was a no brainer for me. A hot rock star contemporary romance series from a trusted author should be an automatic win? I think I am (or will be) in the minority, but none of it worked for me. Although it is not classified as such, this book has all the trappings (and clichés) of the New Adult genre.
Molly is a quiet 24 year old librarian who, one night, finds herself backstage with one of the biggest rock groups in the world at the behest of the band’s publicist, her half-sister. Fox is the leader of the band and as soon as he sees Molly, he wants her. Used to getting what he wants, Fox goes straight after her. Molly has no idea what a guy like him would see in a girl like her but figures this is her *one* chance, so she agrees to a one night stand. The sex is soul shattering for both of them. Snap your fingers and they are in love, but Molly has big issues from her past. Fox is determined to make her his, so he proposes they have a one month fling while the band stays in New Zealand. Molly spends the entire time worried about how broken she’ll be when he leaves. Fox knows he has a mountain to overcome for the lady he wants, and he admirably keeps at it until they reach their HEA.
It was totally my fault that I didn’t read the blurb carefully enough to see that the heroine was a total Mary Sue. Sorry folks, but, in a contemporary romance, you have to come at the simpering virginal heroine from a unique perspective to get me to buy into the character. Molly was a stereotypical character from start to finish and just wasn’t interesting to read. The Bad Stuff that happened in the past could’ve been an interesting twist but it only served as a plot point and not development.
Fox was a slightly better character. Yes, he behaved liked a typical rock star at first by just wanting Molly for a quick lay. Once he realized that she was the person he wanted 4-eva he changed his behavior in the blink of an eye. He was upfront (for the most part), didn’t play around and was generally supportive of Molly. I really could have done without him using her name in every freaking sentence.
My biggest problem with the story was the sex. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the sexy times and Singh can write the hell out of a scene, but I feel like it should always be moving the story forward. This just felt like Molly and Fox had nothing else to do or talk about except to just peeling off the clothes and getting down. That’s a booty call, not a relationship.
By then end, I was more interested in the side characters than I was Molly and Fox. I might give the next books a try because the relationships sound promising, but it won’t be at the top of my TBR.
Grade: C-/D+
(Originally posted on Michelle & Leslie's Book Picks book blog):
Before I get into my review, I'd like to give my rating first. I'm giving Rock Addiction 3 stars.
First of all, I'm not as big a fan reading about rock stars. That's just my preference. But since it's by Nalini Singh and I love her paranormal series, I got really excited. I had high expectations going into this book but I didn't know quite what to expect.
I ended up enjoying Rock Addiction. Nothing about it really stands out among the many contemporary romances out there, but it's a good read nonetheless.
I also like that Rock Addiction is a straight-up contemporary--meaning there was no mystery they have to solve or there's no big conflict they have to untangle. It was a slice of life type of story, like the ups and downs of Fox and Molly's relationship from the time they got together.
Molly and Fox were at a party (Molly is the sister of the band's publicist) and once Fox saw her across the room, he knew he wanted her. Molly was a shy person and has admired Fox from afar. When Fox proposed that they have a month-long affair while the band was taking a break in New Zealand, she saw it as her chance to take a walk in the wild side with her long-time crush. It was very insta-love. There was really no build up to Fox and Molly getting together.
But that wasn't my biggest issue with Rock Addiction. What made this book as 3-star read for me rather than a 4-star read was all of the sex scenes and intimate scenes. There was a lot of them (if you put all of the sex scenes together they'll probably make up half the book) but all of them basically read the same. They dragged the story and grew repetitive and boring after a while and my eyes glazed over them after the first few.
But, like in her other books, I love the camaraderie between the characters, especially among Fox and his band mates. My favorite scenes in the novel were ones between Fox, Molly and the other men in the band. Like the scene when they went to the zoo. Loved that! Those scenes were so reminiscent of the lovely scenes between the SnowDancer wolves or the DarkRiver leopard pack in the Psy-Changeling series.
Rock Addiction was enjoyable despite my issues with it. Besides the positives I already mentioned, I liked watching Molly's character grow as she became a more confident woman and Fox become the man he's supposed to be with Molly. They had some lovely tender moments between them. I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series, which will feature Molly's older sister and another member of the band.
REVIEW:
I loved everything about this book! Rock Addiction is the first book in Nalini Singh's sexy new series, The Rock Kiss Series. I love her paranormal series so I was excited to try her new contemporary series. I was not disappointed. A sexy rocker and a librarian heat up the pages. Nalini Singh hooked me from the beginning of the story and captured and held my attention. Fox is scorching hot and breaks down all Molly's walls. He's impossible to resist. I highly recommend this new series. It's a great love story and left me wanting more. I'm so excited that the secondary characters will be getting their own books and will be dropping everything to read it when it releases. Go get guys! You won't be disappointed! Rock Addiction is one of my favorite releases of 2014.
Holy Hot Rock Star!!!
I love my some Fox!!! He sees a girl from across the room, Molly is a librarian there with her sister who works for the band, she goes to get on the elevator...he joins her and the rest is Rock N Roll History!!!
He tells her they will have one month together while he is in her country and she agrees to their relationship for the month, little does she know he is never letting her go. He is in this for the long haul. They have a steaming hot sex life and so much fun together just being themselves. They have both been done wrong by their families and now they have one another to get through the good and the bad times.
At the end of the month Molly moves to the states with Fox and they keep on with their lives. No matter what comes their way, they promise to always tell each other the truth and never leave the other. I really don't know how she made it through some of the girls wanting her man, but she always knew he was coming home to her.
Molly isn't just good for Fox, she is a bright light in the band too. She shows them that you can be in a relationship and the band at the same time. I hope to read more about what happens to the other members, David, Noah, and Abe. I have so enjoyed reading about them in this book.
I cannot wait for the next book to come out and learn more about David and Thea, and what the heck he wrote in those memos. That review to come as soon as I can get my hands on that book!!!
I started this series reading David and Thea's story first. In that book there were several references to Molly's "fears" without a lot of detail. I enjoyed learning how Molly and Fox got together and how their relationship developed. However, I got tired of hearing about Molly's fears and about her parents scandal. The first couple of times it gave good insight to why Molly acted and felt the way she did. But after that it got old .
I did enjoy the book and look forward to the other's books. (Also read Charlotte and T-Rex story - good read)
I'm not usually a big fan of erotic romances, but I am such a big fan of Nalini Singh's paranormal romances that I couldn't wait to read this one. I was thrilled to get an early review copy, even though I didn't know if it would be my kind of book - and once I started reading, I just devoured it! I couldn't stop reading it. This whole story is an over-the-top fantasy, and it's DELICIOUS. Not only is the physical chemistry between Molly and Fox incredibly hot, but the emotional chemistry is, too. Even tropes that often don't work for me in erotic romances worked just fine for me here because I was so invested in Molly and in Fox. I've already pre-ordered the novella that comes next in this series, and I can't wait to read all the other books, too. This book was genuinely addictive!
Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors.I love her series Guild Hunter and Psy-Changeling.I love her style of writing.
Fox is my new favorite rockstar.He is sexy and hot and intense and caring and true friend for his bandmates. His Bandmates is his family and he is always there for them.
Fox when he met Molly and he felt drawn to her and he decided that he wants her for one night stand and Molly accepted because she felt the same way like Fox. After they spent the night together neither of the was ready to say goodbye si they decided to be together for one month and after that month is up Fox must leave and leave Molly alone.
Fox gree but he knew that he wasn't ready to let her go after the month is up because she is the one for him and he proved her that they belong together.
I really loved the way that he fight for her and the way he made her feel safe and secure and he prove her that she can trust in him and that his fame can't touch her because because he is always there to protect her.
Molly learned that to be famous isn't always something bad and that to be famous is just of part of who you are.She learned to love him for him and she understand that she can't change him and accepted him in his life forever.
I really loved this book and this couple.
Fox is the lead singer of the band called Schoolboy Choir, He is hot, sexy and famous. Now he is spending a month in New Zealand for a little R& R. The tour is over and he needs to regroup. New Zealand is low key and there is plenty for him to see and do when there. It is better than speeding his down time in LA.
At a party, he meets Molly. Molly is a shy librarian who is also virgin. Her sister works for Schoolboy Choir and even thought she doesn't like the idea of her sister being with Fox, it seems too late! These 2 can't keep their attraction hidden.
What starts off as a month long fling, turns into more. Molly has been burned by her past. She is not looking for anything serious. While you would guess it was Fox who would feel that way, it is the opposite. Fox has met his match with Molly. He seems more with her and is willing to prove it with time and patience. He knows she could be the one.
This was a fun rocker story, a little predictable but fun. The book is set up so you know this is going to be a series and will have the other characters in future books.
This book was awesome! I love reading stories about bad boy rockers and this one definitely fit the bill. It was great setting Molly take the chance on Fox and grow stronger because of it. I loved all the characters and the storyline. Nalini Singh has proved yet again what a master storyteller she is. This book has just the right mix of romance and naughty fun. I loved it and I can't wait to read more of this series.
I love this book so much, Fox may be a rock star but that man is so damn sweet, he will make your pants melt with his dirty mouth. When Molly comes into his life everyone gets to see a different side of him, he's protective, loving and loyal and although at the start Molly may seem weak as the story builds we get to see her true strength. I can't wait to read more of this series.
I was given this book for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book. We have Molly, who is a librarian but has a sister who in town with band Schoolboy Choir. While mingling at a party, she catches the eye of one of band members, Zachary Fox or Fox as he’s known. He is determined to have her but she isn’t so sure. They are spending a month of downtime in new Zealand before they have to go back to LA. Molly and Fox decide to give this month a trial run for them. They start out as friends with benefits and see where it goes. As you guessed it, It goes further and feelings start forming between the two. Soon enough Molly sees herself giving up her job at the library and flies back to LA with Fox. At first she is scared and not sure what to do, but soon she gets comfortable with her world around her and ends up changing her life. Even though Fox never really says “I Love you” , he tends to show her his love with songs. This book had it good moments
Now I love Nalini Singh, which is why I automatically bought this book. When there was normal interaction between the characters I enjoyed the book, however, every other paragraph was the start of a three page sex scene. I skimmed over them, so I skimmed most of the book. If you like to read steamy sex scenes you will enjoy this book more than I did, because the writing is still Nalani and she is great.
Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh
Molly Webster is a librarian who lives life with caution but the moment steamy rock star Zachary Fox asks her for a ride, her life changes tempo. She allows her desire to take over and indulge in a one night stand.
Zachary Fox felt more than a sexual connection to her. However, Fox senses he will need to slowly warm her up to the idea of a relationship or she will run for the hills.
Molly is surprised to see Fox at her door. After all, this is not how one night stands work. He suggests a one month extension of their arrangement.
Will the two walk away from each other after one month of passion, good times and shared stories or will he be able to convince her history does not always repeat itself?
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Singh NEVER disappoints!!!!!
*Beware of Spoilers*
Let me start off this review by saying that I was so excited to get my hands on this book early! I love Nalini Singh and I also have a weakness for romances featuring rock stars, ever since I read Perfect Timing by Laura Spinella, which was amazing!!!
Our leading female, Molly Webster, has suffered at the hands of the media when she was younger and her politician dad fell from grace in a very public way. People were brutal to her in a way that she will never forget over something that wasn’t even her fault! So when Schoolboy Choir, lead singer, Zachary Fox, takes a shine to her, she knows it can’t go anywhere because she never wants to live under that brutal microscope ever again. But she decides a one-night stand with the hunk is perfectly fine.
But Fox isn’t satisfied with one measly night. He knows he never wants to let this girl go and talks her into giving him the whole month that he’s in New Zealand. But when that month is over, Molly is completely addicted to the drug that is Zachary Fox! Can they both get past the pain they have endured as children and make this new-found relationship work?
When I started reading this book, I just couldn’t get enough of it!! I did not want to put it down! The steam between this couple is off the charts, and the story was interesting. But at one point my kindle decided that I had read too much, the battery died, and I had to wait for it to charge!!! The horror of it all! There is definitely something to say in favor of print books in that regard! But once it was charged back up, I was good to go again!
Notice I said that when I STARTED reading the book I couldn’t put it down. Yes, sadly something happened and this book lost its fire. For me it happened right before Part 2. I can even tell you what that something was … Fox. He morphed into this controlling, no half measures guy, and it annoyed the crap out of me. He wanted a relationship with Molly, but refused any kind of compromise. It was his way or no way, and she went along with it, like the little pushover she became! He was a total jerk to her when she first moved in with him and in this book, every conflict is solved with sex. I lost a lot of respect for both characters at that point, and they never regained it.
There is a LOT of sex in this book. More than any other Singh book I’ve ever read! I swear it’s all this couple ever does. I have no idea how Fox has time to write music, let alone perform it, or even go to the bathroom. Don’t get me wrong, I like a healthy dose of smut, but I felt this book may have gone a bit overboard on the sex, and I do think the story may suffer a bit from that, as I think the romance gets lost after awhile.
That’s not to say this was a bad book, but it was just disappointing for a book to take me so high in the beginning and let me fall so low later on.
With that said, I very much plan to read the next installment of the series, and I just hope that it won’t suffer from the same downfalls this novel did.
I love Nalini Singh books.. I was concerned about purchasing this after the reading some of the reviews.. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is I love the Archangel Series and this is not on the same level.. however.. it has a central theme all of her books share.. Strong women sometimes scarred by life who fight to make it past their past...I do not agree with some of the others feeling on Molly, I liked her :D and found the story line sweet and naughty... it was an overall fun read :D
If you are a fan on Nalini Singh, you will love this book as well. While she moves away from the standard paranormal romance, this book does not disappoint. Instead of focusing on the male lead, she looks into the female lead and the issues she has being with a man who has it all. There is romance, there is drama, and there is definitely a lead into future books. It starts out as a one night stand for a girl that always feels she falls second. For Fox, this is just the run to a relationship he has always wanted. She is "the" girl to a rocker who has had them all. For Molly, it means trusting a rocker. A sexy, undeniable, pierced and tattooed rocker who is wanted by fans all over the world. Dive in! You won't be disappointed but ADDICTED!
Molly Webster has lived her entire adult life in fear of being reckless or worse, becoming addicted to love. At sixteen, after her "family-values" politician father was caught in a compromising situation, Molly's life spun out of control. Living in the spotlight was not for her, and she became determined to live a quiet, ordinary life. So when mega rock star Zachery Fox shows interest in Molly, she doesn't know how to make her feelings fit into her orderly life.
Fox, the lead singer for the world famous band, Schoolboy Choir, wants Molly completely. From the moment he laid eyes on her and realized her genuine nature, he knew she was the woman for him. Now he's determined to find a way to be with Molly and get her to live the life she's been afraid to experience.
I'm not going to lie... I really, really enjoyed Rock Addiction! There was just something about the book that drew me in and kept me glued to the pages. And the characters stuck with me days after I finished reading it. I'd get a smile on my face just thinking about Molly and Fox. Rock Addiction is a (mostly) light-hearted, happy tale with some knock-your-boots-off sex scenes.
One major factor that contributes to my complete enjoyment of this book is the characters. Ms. Singh creates such amazing, multifaceted characters that right from the beginning, I found myself attached. I cared what happened to them. I ached because they ached. I worried because they worried. While both Molly and Fox, as well as the numerous supporting players, are not the average Joe's you'd meet in town, they have many qualities that makes them feel genuine and everyday. They may have problems, but they find ways to work through them and move forward.
Which brings me to another reason I adored Rock Addiction... Life isn't necessarily easy for any of the characters, but Molly and Fox take the time to work through every issue that comes their way. I appreciate that through everything, the characters continue to be themselves, experience powerful emotions, deal with personal demons, etc., but talk to each other and work it out. Sure, they had their arguments, but they were honest with one another and determined to make it work. They fought through the rough and didn't break. We watched them truly grow and nurture a relationship based on mutual trust and affection. It may be a bit idealist, but I didn't care - it's great escapism!
The story is very different from Ms. Singh's mainstream paranormal romance series, and enjoyable in different ways. But the story still has much of what makes Nalini's writing so wonderful... strong, well-developed characters, romance between equal partners, happy/healthy relationship, and sensual sex. Unlike her other series, however, there is a lot of sex, but I never felt it was a book based solely on sex. The sex is as much a part of their relationship and how they deal with "stuff" as music is.
In the end, I really enjoyed Rock Addiction. I was completely hooked by the story and couldn't put down my Kindle. Although everything was a bit easy at times for the couple - I liked that the author used adversity to have the couple grow stronger instead of breaking them down first and then building them back up again. I feel Ms. Singh did a great job establishing Molly and Fox and keeping their actions within the scope of the characters she created. They have flaws, but instead of allowing those flaws to tear them down, she uses them as tools to help each grow beyond the fears and hurt that once defined them.
I enjoyed almost every moment of the story, and I found the set up for future titles promising. I adored the story for the characters and romance, the sex and the fights. Sure it's not super realistic, but it's a great romantic getaway.
My Rating: A, Loved It
I think this book has the most sex scenes I've ever read. Fox and Molly are a great couple. I wasn't sure about Molly at first but I really enjoyed when she let her strength shine. I also enjoyed that the book dealt with numerous new relationship issues and the fact that issues between the couple were dealt with swiftly.
OK, at first I was going to give this four stars. Some parts are repetitive, it's mainly just sex the entire time and there's basically no plot. Usually Nalini's books have some action to break it up and that was what I was expecting. But as the story goes on and why I ended up giving this book 5 stars...damn if I didn't fall in love with the whole band. And Molly. And Kit. And Thea. And especially T-Rex. (Please tell me he has a book Nalini!!!) With that being said, the sex scenes are hot and it's got multiple moments that will make a girly girl sigh. Looks like I'm hooked on another Nalini series.
I'm a huge Nalini Singh fan, but I just couldn't get into this book. I spent a lot of time just skimming through. Usually her characters are really well developed and just kind of jump off the page but these two were just blah. Same with the sexy scenes. There were also way too many references to plot lines in future books that must take place concurrently with this one. It was really annoying. Not a bad book, but nothing like what Nalini Singh usually delivers.
Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh is the first book in her new Schoolboy Choir series. Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors and I can tell you that this book is completely different from anything that she’s published previously. It’s a contemporary rock star romance. The hero, Fox is the lead singer for the band, Schoolboy Choir. The heroine, Molly is a librarian and she meets Fox through her sister, Thea, the bands publicist.
I thought Rock Addiction was good but ultimately forgettable. Neither the characters nor the story were particularly compelling. I kept getting distracted from the story which is unusual for me. I think Rock Addition suffered from an overabundance of sex. This took away from the plot and the romance. The bulk of Fox and Molly’s relationship is physical and that detracted from the emotional depth of the book. I felt the chemistry but I didn’t really feel the love. And honestly, the sex scenes just got tiresome and boring after a while.
Character wise, I liked Molly and Fox as well as the other bandmates and friends but I didn’t really connect with them. My favorite character was one of the side characters, Molly’s best friend Charlotte. I was very intrigued by the snippets we got of her and enjoyed her discussions with Molly about her new boss, T-Rex as Charlotte calls him. I would be very interested in reading her story.
Another element that bothered me as a reader was a song that Fox wrote in honor of Molly and sang but the lyrics weren’t written in the book. If you write a singer/songwriter character and that character writes a song about the heroine and or their relationship, I think it’s important to write the lyrics in the book as they are being “sung”. It greatly lessens the impact and the realism when they aren’t included.
On the plus side, I liked how Rock Addiction addressed the rock star lifestyle and some of the issues that come along with it, including groupies and lack of privacy. I felt that part was important in a book such as this and it was well done. Actually the overall plot was interesting and nicely done, it just got overshadowed by the numerous sex scenes. In conclusion, while I liked Rock Addiction I was a bit disappointed by it. I expected more from this author.
You know what, I liked this book and I'm now a fan of the series. It was enjoyable, light and fun. I mean, it's about a librarian and the sexiest rock star on the planet...that premise alone guarantees a hot and sexy read. If that's what you're looking for, you'll get that plus solid and loyal characters, lots of light-hearted banter and a sweet love story. It's escapism at its finest. I recommend this and I'm eager for the next installment.
I 'm so disappointed with this story, with the synopsis and cover I thought I would find something different, and oh what was my surprise, yes it was different but in a bad way.
The main characters were good but nothing wow, nothing outstanding, the one that caught my attention was David, they were really boring, and not just the characters but the story was also painfully long, it's not for that many pages, the situations that happened didn't bring anything, there was neither high nor low, it was very flat, again boring and things happened just to happen that didn't help at all to the story, until the hot parts were boring!, ahh and I forgot, is divided into two parts! I crossed my fingers that the second part will be better but nothing, nothing happened from beginning to end was the same.
I really wanted to like it or at least get something salvageable from it, although that would be David, but didn't appear that much in the history to make it worthwhile, with great sadness, but I don't recommend at all this story, and hopefully the 1.5 that's David's story will be a little better, which I'll read it someday.
I could hardly wait to read this book as I have LOVED every one of Nalini Singh's other books. I has VERY disappointed! It was a low quality harlequin knock off. There is very little story to it, the heroine is a damaged wimp who doesn't know if she wants to trust the hero then gives up everything for him literally a page later. The hero is a controlling jerk who will not meet her even part way. The author put in way more sex than you usually find in a romance apparently in an attempt to hide the fact that there was very little story line. I love a good sex scene but there needs to be some story between the sex scenes. Much of the book (sadly the best parts) was spent in teasers for the upcoming books. So the best tension and character development went nowhere. The authors writing style and descriptions were still great, but the story and characters were lacking
I am hugh Nalini Singh fan, but this book is dreadful. I am not going to repeat everything that has already been said - but if the cover didn't say "Nalini Singh", I would never have guessed that she could write such a boring story. And there are so many sex scenes that it became tedious and pointless (I can hardly believe that I have to write this about the author who gave us Hawke&Sienna, Kaleb&Sahara). I really hope this was a slip-up!
