Still a good series, but one comment by one of the characters threw me right out of the book and made me feel sad inside. She said that there were differences between men and women in how they thought, using her fictional psychic skills as an authoritarian backup on that. And as someone who's been very interested in science, and gender, and social roles related to gender, that statement made me feel awful in the real world. Not a feeling I enjoy in my light reading, and one I'm afraid informs the writer's personal concept of how male and female characters behave. I'm now doubtful that I'll ever see a female character in this series who takes a dominant role, which is again sad because in more than a dozen books you'd hope for a little variation in how the relationships play out. But writers can only write what they know and feel. As much as I love the writing and have enjoyed the series up until now, I'm not sure I'm ok with seeing the same gender roles repeated over and over and over. And I'm not sure I'm ok with the fact that I now realize three books and dozens of characters in, that I haven't seen a single character with an alternative sexuality. Basic statistics say that's unrealistic. (She complains, writing a review for books about shape shifters and telepathy.)

I guess three books in is where I start being more critical of the writing. I don't know. It's good but it's making me uncomfortable on some levels.

Ms. Singh is an excellent writer, there are just some stories that don't resonate with me personally, and go against the grain. In this case, the Heroine, Brenna, is the aggressor, the Hero, Judd, is the romantic target. Despite Judd's continual efforts to get Brenna to back off, she just keeps pushing. I know they are supposed to end up together, but it is, for me, painful to read, and less than romantic. The fact that both Brenna and Judd are emotionally broken in many ways makes it even more uncomfortable, even slightly desperate. Yes, they eventually heal each other (in short, Brenna's tactics work), but it is a difficult journey with minimal reward that comes too little, too late.

Next come the villains. Villains, plural. There are plots within plots within plots, all leading (at the moment) nowhere. The "unemotional" Psy seem to be creating chaos because they can, not for any plausible purpose. Add a Ghost in the machine, an unwitting Psy scientist, Changeling drug addicts, mind control of the weaker Changelings, revenge, witness tampering... I'm beginning to need a scorecard for red-herrings.

I'm sure, eventually, everything will come into focus, but after the first two EXCELLENT books in this series, I am a little disappointed with this effort. It's probably only me, or it could be the traditional "mid-series" transition slump leading to bigger and better stories. Despite my disappointment, I am hooked on this series, and will keep Ms. Singh on my "must read" list.

PG-13 for sexual content and violence. An interesting teaser at the end leading to the next book in the series.

The changeling groups were interesting, but there were too many details and processes that were hard to follow. I never understood all the politicking and what was going on in the Psy council.

The story is set in the future on planet earth. There are many groups of shape-shifting creatures called changelings who change from human to animal form. Brenna is wolf/human. She lives in a wolf pack. Some of the other changelings are leopards, hyenas, deer, eagles, swans, etc. Humans with psychic and telekinetic abilities are called Psy. Normal humans also still live on earth. The Psy are the rulers of the earth. Some of the rulers are experimenting with ways of controlling other beings, using implants and other methods. Judd is a Psy assassin who quits working for the Psy government. He fakes his death and lives with the wolf pack. He works with another Psy, behind the scenes thwarting evil being done by other Psy.

A second part of the story is Brenna was kidnapped and tortured by Enrique, a Psy. She was freed before she died and returned to the wolf pack. Several attempts are made to kill her. Judd and others in the pack are trying to protect her and discover who and why someone wants her dead. She (an emotional and tactile wolf) falls in love with Judd (a Psy who shows no emotion). I enjoyed her attempts to connect with Judd. She wanted him and wouldn't give up trying to break through his emotional barriers. His early responses and rejection of her would have turned away most females.

Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: four. Setting: 2079 earth. Copyright: 2007. Genre: paranormal romance.

OK, I reread slowly between two new readings my favorite episodes of the first part of psy-changeling. Obviously Judd's story is a part of it. With him are introduced arrows as well as character of the ghost. After two psy women, we discover for the first time the reactions of a psy male in front of sensations and feelings born from his interactions with changelings.
And which man, Judd is as dangerous as are the alphas of the changelings packs, but his cold outside hides so many sufferings, what was done to him as a child is inhuman and it was the same for all the arrows (see the shield of winter with Vasic and the shards of hope with Aden). Nevertheless, he kept a consciousness and deserted to save his own.
Since her traumatizing and horrible kidnapping, Brenna tries to recover, she is broken in the inside and suffers to know she is mutilated. Judd seems the only one to be able to bring her the comfort she needs in spite of his incapacity to touch.
With this 3rd volume, we discover the pack of SnowDancer of the inside, learn more about them, their behavior and relationships.
Hawke is a great leader but so different from Lucas. Wolves are very different from the leopards of DarkRiver. Judd mingling with wolves slowly wins his rank while keeping his shadow zone hidden. We see him fighting and suffering the feelings Brenna awakens in him. We find ourselves in her, to hold on with great difficulty her needs to comfort him.
Brenna grows slowly in us, we imagine what she had to undergo and the more she gains confidence in Judd, the more she opens to him the doors of the nightmare she lived. And even if she was often close, never she gave up and hung on to seduce and to conquer her arrow.
Another great success with this magnificent love story beyond pain and fear.

I read a ton of books a year but I always make sure to make time to read anything from Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series. I am impatiently waiting for Allegiance of Honor to arrive at my door. I pre-ordered it months ago. It is being released 12/27/2016, tomorrow. I believe in leaving reviews for books that I like (reviews really help authors sell books)... I just read sooo many books that I would be writing reviews hours a month if I left one for every book I read. So in general, I limit what books I leave reviews for to those I absolutely LOVE or books I LOATH. I also usually try to write reviews where they can do the most good. Writing a review for a Nalini Singh book doesn't usually cross my mind. She already gets TONS of reviews so my review won't really affect her one way or another. On the other hand, a review can help a beginning author a lot more. One of my Goodreads friends (Sophia) just left a review for Caressed by Ice which persuaded me to put my two cents in too. This is one of my favorite books of the series. The way Brenna goes after what she wants... namely Judd... was awesome. (Proving how intelligent, courageous, determined and resilient she was.) She knew what she wanted & nobody was going to stand in her way... including Judd.
Brenna had just gone through being tortured by an insane Psy in a previous book so everyone thought she was fragile. She is the perfect example of the saying 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.' As for Judd, he surprised me by showing his human side and all the secrets he has been hiding. I loved the interaction between Judd and Brenna. Overall the book was well written, SEXY, HOT, action packed and character driven. Just what I expect from a Nalini Singh book. If you like paranormal (with a little sci-fi) romance you have struck GOLD. If you haven't started this series, I suggest you promptly buy Slave to Sensation, tell all your family you are unavailable and find someplace to cuddle up and read. She has close to 20 books in the series including anthologies of short stories/novellas that are not to be missed. If you have the spare money sitting around, I would just buy the complete series and settle in for a FANTASTIC journey. I buy all her books in print format so I don't have to risk my e-reader being uncharged when I want to read or something squirrelly happening with my account that makes it to where I cannot access her books. I tend to purchase all my favorite books in print format when they are available. There is just something about holding an actual book in your hands that improves the overall experience. When I want to relax and be transported into another world this book is one of my top picks... I have read it over a dozen times. Other book suggestions to keep in mind: Vexing Voss or Just Desserts (both currently on sale) by Gail Koger (Sci-fi romances with kick-a$$ heroines, sexy as hell heroes and tons of laughter), Mercury's War by Lora Leigh (Sci-fi romance with an awesome, smart, tough heroine and a fierce smoking HOT hero), Delicate Freakn' Flower by Eve Langlais (fantasy M/F/M with Alpha, shifter lacrosse players as heroes and a snarky, sharp witted, LUCKY heroine in the middle), Out of the Darkness (currently $0.99) and Into the Fire by Kyler Stone (Urban fantasy/Paranormal romance with a touch of mystery, M/M/F and M/M, Vampires, Druids... in both and a cool twist on Shifters in Into The Fire).
Back to Caressed By Ice... It is a FIVE PLUS STAR read. If you read nothing else in the series grab this one... HAPPY READING!!!

Caressed by Ice by Nalini Singh is the third book in the Psy-Changeling series and definitely one of my absolute favourites. If the first two books in this series were good then this one went even a step further in winning me over.

This is the story of the defected Psy, Judd Lauren and the Snow Dancer wolf, Brenna Kincaid who was abducted and tortured by a Psy and although eventually rescued, is still grappling with the horror of those days.

I really really enjoyed reading this book and was bowled over by the romance, the drama and the danger present in this story.

Nalini Singh has created a complex, ingenious and engrossing futuristic world where there are Psy, cold in their emotions but very strong with their minds; Changelings who are passionate, ferociously loyal and very close to their emotions; and Humans. The author has expertly managed to develop the fictional world and further engross and intrigue the readers in the latest developments happening and thinking about the repercussions on the lives of their favourite characters in this series!

I have come to become a big fan of Nalini Singh and she proves her imagination and writing prowess yet again in this book. She brings to us scorching and yet heartfelt passion, very real danger and a crisp and engaging story line that held me captive until the very end.

The story is fast paced and well planned twists thrown at strategic points in the story. The characterization is realistic and I could empathize with the characters. Brenna had me admiring her grit and strength in overcoming such a horrible experience that is sure to break anyone's spirit. Judd's struggle in maintaining his cold, emotionless self despite his yearning for more from his life is very real. I enjoyed following these two around as they bumped around trying to find their final happily-ever-after while facing life threatening danger from an unknown assailant.

There are intense emotional scenes and equally intimate physical scenes which although very explicit, didn't make me feel uncomfortable because of the beautiful balance between the physical and emotional aspects of the scenes.

I absolutely loved this book and was left eager to immediately take up the next book to read!

All in all, Caressed by Ice is a beautiful mix of good storytelling, well constructed settings, expertly developed characters and heartfelt emotional play. 5 out of 5 to it from me and recommended to all lovers of paranormal romantic suspense who are above the age of eighteen.

Another amazing read! I really liked the plot, characters and that this time around we get a 'psy male' slowly fall for his woman. His POV is so well done and I'm trully grateful that Nalini can write stories both in female and male POV. It gives the story just something to it, something that you wouldn't get in a book with only one POV. Also, I felt like this story is more darker, it's filled with more pain and healing than the previous two books. Brenna and Judd's pasts aren't pretty. We roughly found out what happened to Brenna in the previous book and I felt really bad for what was done to her. But just when you think things coudn't get worse than they already were, nope, in this book we find out all the horrific details about what that monster did to her (body and mind). I swear, if he wasn't already dead...well... As for Judd's story, I'm not giving away any spoilers but I will say that it comes close to what was done to Brenna.

All in all, I already know I'm going to buy the paperback version and put it on my favourites shelf. The way things are going now, I'm quite sure that by the end, I'm going to end up buying the whole series in paperback, not that I mind. These days good PNRs books are hard to find, at least for me, so me finding this series is like a miracle that I intent to invest in! That being said, Mine to Possess, here I come!!!

Caressed by Ice is Book 3 in Nalini Singhs Psy-Changeling series.

As an Arrow, an elite soldier for the Psy Council, Judd Lauren was forced to do terrible things in the name of his people. Now he defected and disappeared with his remaining family to the SnowDancer wolves den where his dark abilities will forever brand him one of the most deadly of assassins - cold, pitiless, calculating. Until he meets Brenna...

Brenna Shane Kincaid was an innocent who had her mind violated by a Psy serial killer and now fears she is tainted. When her pack mates start turning up dead she enlists Judds help but her whole being fights against his icy personality and desire and passion threaten to encompasse them and place their hearts and lives at risk.

This book was a great insight into another powerful changeling group. We get Introduced to SnowDancer wolves. Judd and his families background was an interesting discovery throughout and I loved getting to know Brenna. I liked that Brenna helped Judd to show him it was ok to deal and act on his feelings and I liked that Judd was able to show Brenna how strong and capable she is and that she is not a liability or tainted.
It was great to see them become a couple and influence each other for the better.
Once again Nalini has offered up a fantastic read in this rich and deep and wonderful world she has created.

Caressed by Ice is the third installment in the series. When I saw that two intriguing characters that were part of the first two books were to get their story, I was down for that. The story does many things including following up some disturbing events in book one, ongoing troubles within the Psy race and between the Psy and Changling races, and offering up a tough fought opposites romance.

Judd Lauren is the ice-cold Psy gone rogue with his family living with the wolf changlings who gave them sanctuary. Judd is barely tolerated and feared because the changlings know a lethal predator when they meet one even if they don't know exactly how much darkness surrounds him. Judd's Psy designation is secret as are the nature of his gifts- telepathic and telekinetic . He was one of the elite Arrow assassins. He is one who must embrace Silence for the safety of everyone around him because his gifts unleashed would destroy easily.

Brenna barely survived being captured by a Psy sociopath and now is just picking up the pieces. Very few in the pack, including her annoying over-protective brothers, are allowed near her. It is disturbing to her that the unemotional and untouchable Judd is one of those few. His darkness does not scare her. He has helped her, but he wants to keep his distance. Brenna pushes to keep him close. She can't explain why she wants to break through his icy Silence, but she does.

Meanwhile, a ghost works to sabotage the Psy council's plans for a Protocol implant that would further enslave the race, intruders trespass on the Snow Dancer pack land, and someone has murdered one of their own and is stalking Brenna. Judd now works with the Ghost, but his attention is divided as he has a need to protect the brave she-wolf even as she is determined to prove that she can take care of herself.

I just knew that Judd and Brenna's story would be riveting for me. I loved the idea of this pair together. The earlier psy characters had non-lethal psy gifts so I was curious about Judd. Then there is Brenna who was nearly broken and has come back a long way. Fun how a book about an unemotional character can still be sweltering and passionate. Kudos to Nalini Singh for that.

Things in the overall series are really getting interesting. I can't wait to see what happens next and who will get their story.

I have read the entire Psy-Changeling series. I love it, but some of the books in this series have something special. Whether it's the protagonist couple, the story, the dialogues or the secondary characters, these are books that I read over and over again.

Although all the books in the series can be read as standalone, if you want to know the whole story you have to read the whole series in order. In all the books there are clues and important data about the development of the story.

Judd, the Ice Man, will make you melt with love for him. In the first chapters I did not like Brenna, but there was an explanation for her strange behavior.

The secondary characters are magnificent, there are no filler characters. All are important for the development of the story.

‘Caressed by Ice’ is book 3 in Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series. Who says a an emotionless assassin can’t find love. I have really been enjoying reading this story about Judd and Brenna, the struggles and pain they have had to endure to get their happiness has been one hell of a ride. I have been enjoying reading these books and can’t wait to continue the journey.

Spoilers below...

Judd Lauren is an Arrow Psy TP (Telepathy) & TK (Telekinesis). From the age of 10 all he has know is how to be an assassin cut off from feeling any emotion, until Brenna.

Brenna Shane Kincaid is a Wolf Changeling, part of the Snowdancers pack. Everyone except for Judd treat her like a child that needs to be constantly watched after her abduction and torture from one of the Psy.

I'm on the third book and still loving this series! I've missed paranormal so much. And I so love shifters. But this series is more than just shifter books. It's a whole paranormal world that fits together and reflects much of our world. Each book has it's own focus on a couple but the overall story of this world continues. I love that there is the resolution of one piece of the story but the overarching story goes on.

If you haven't read this series but love paranormal, what are you waiting for? I have been sucked in and thrown out my reading schedule to fit these in. That's where the audio has come in. I've been able to fit in listening as I do other things and it's perfect. I love this narrator. I can tell which character is speaking, I can see the pictures in my mind and I'm not focused on the reader. It's the highest praise I can give - she makes the story better.

This world is made up of three races. The psy, the changelings, and the humans. There are many different kinds of psy with wide ranges of psychic powers and abilities. They have silenced their emotions as a way to do away with violence but the results have caused other issues. The changelings come in many different packs of shifters. I like that. I've always liked more than wolf shifters. This story is the first one that focused more on the wolfs. I am so interested in them. I love their alpha, Hawke and can't wait for his book. The human are there but not really part of things so far. That could change.

This is Brenna and Judd's story. The psychically damaged Breanna was a victim in an earlier story. Still not healed, she is drawn to the emotionless Judd who helped with her recovery. But there is so much more going on for their story. Judd's ice cannot simply be melted away. And Breanna has yet to deal with the aftermath of her confinement. It's enjoyable and interesting to watch their story unfold. I was surprised and intrigued as it went along. Love it when a story doesn't go where I expect.

The writing is so good. I'm not a third person writing kinda reader but I love this one. While the story moves all over, it's always from someones POV even if it's third person. That means I feel those connections with characters that I need so much. And because the story can flow from any character, we see things from the previous couples in the first two books and through the eyes of the killer.

I'm excited to start the next book. I can't get enough of this world. If you haven't read this author, you need to. She's just so good.

Paranormal romance doesn't get any better than this. Not only is there some awesome shifter goodness, but the Psy-Changeling series continues to be one epic Romeo and Juliet story after another, which in my opinion, makes the best ships EVER.

We met Judd and Brenna previously in the first two books. At first glance, Judd is the typical cold, emotion-less Psy - except, he's not. He's an Arrow, which is an elite assassin Psy. Being who he is, he has a whole host of new problems when it comes to his abilities that make it nearly impossible to break from his Psy conditioning like Sasha and Faith were able to do before him. But, there's enough humanity in Judd to recognize that the things the Psy want to do to further their kind are not remotely humane, so he's willing to do what he can from outside the Net to bring them down.

Brenna is still reeling emotionally and physically from the brutal attack on her by the former Psy council member. Strangely, despite being surrounded by her pack and her brothers, it's Judd that appears to be the only one she feels comfortable talking to. But, breaking through his layers of icy self-preservation is a challenge that she might not be up for.

Although I loved Sasha's and Faith's stories, I think Judd's may be the best yet. Mostly, because it was the most challenging. His abilities definitely complicated things in a way we haven't seen yet, and it made me wonder how Nalini Singh was going to get him out of the box in which she had put him in to begin with.

I loved how Judd's transformation was extremely gradual. It made it much more believable. And it made those moments of progress so much sweeter. Every moment he had with Brenna was fascinating and sweet and so very swoon-worthy - and that has to do with the fact that in those moments, he's very far from the Psy we know he was and can still be at times.

Brenna's in a precarious place. She's trying to find her way back to "normal," but everyone is coddling her, and she's not sure how to get back to where she was before. I felt so awful for her so many times. Nalini Singh did an excellent job making Brenna both vulnerable and strong, scared and brave, fearful and commanding. It was like Brenna was trying to fight who she is with only the knowledge of who she WAS as a weapon. It's an impossible battle, but with Judd there to help her, she's unbeatable.

We get to see plenty of our favorite cat shifters in this book, as well as Sasha and Faith. The wicked Psy council also plays a major role, and new mysteries are begun that, I'm sure, will play out in future books in the series. The world building and the mythology that Singh has created continue to be phenomenal. I love this complex world and all the cool things the different races can do and how they all interact together. It's a brilliant series, and the coupling of two completely incompatible people make it even better.

About the Audio Version:

Once again, I listened to the audio version. I think I may continue doing this as I work my way through the series. Although it means it will take me much longer to get through all the books, the production makes it totally worth it. Angela Dawe is an incredible narrator, and I love what she has done with the characters. I definitely would recommend the audio version to anyone. It has enhanced the story lines for me and made the experience that much more enjoyable.

So far this is my favorite in the series. I think it maybe because I think assassins are awesome to read about and I like female characters who overcome and adapt and still kick butt after something traumatic happens to them.

Judd of course is the kick a** Psy assassin that seems to have no emotion what so ever. Just like he is supposed to be. Unless it comes to Brenna in which he pretty much tortures himself in order for her to get the contact that she needs to help her through everything she is going through.

I found Brenna to be wonderful. She understood why Judd was the way he was but accepted him and his family. Even when she found out his secret and she was uncomfortable with it and how it relates to the guy that tortured her but she was able to look past it and still want Judd.

As for the story. I really liked this one. Maybe because it was the guy that was the Psy this time and the female that was the changeling. Or maybe because this story opened up more about the Psy world and how these Arrows become who they are and all the politics in the Psy world along with some of the past. I think this one also described more of the changeling world. Kind of like the “pecking” order I guess I’d say. Like how the wolf shifters and panther shifters look out for the shifters who are lower on the food chain like the deer shifters.

As always wonderful action scenes. Great mystery for me to try and solve. And some steamy romance scenes. I love Judds and Brenna’s story. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series and I hope they are just as good or better than this one.

Shifters, Psy, Steamy scenes, Action scenes, Romance and humor.

4-4.5 stars

This was a really good story. I wasn't sure what to expect with Judd being an ex-Arrow and Brenna's past trauma but I was very pleased with the story.

Brenna is a Wolf Changeling (shifter). She recently (in book #1 Slave to Sensation) was captured by a Psy serial killer that tortured and experimented on his victims. She escaped alive but very wounded, both mentally and physically. Her physical wounds healed but her mental wounds are harder as some of the experiments her performed left her with some unexpected and unwanted results.

Judd is a powerful Psy that was an enforcer soldier (called Arrows) that took out anyone that went against the precept of "Silence" (the Psy conditioning that made all the Psys repress their feelings from childhood in an effort to alleviate the bad emotions that could make them dangerous). He ended up leaving the Psy life when there was a threat to his family. When an order came down that they were supposed to have their minds wiped (and not for anything they did wrong), Judd and his brother took the kids and ran. They managed find a safe-haven with the wolf-pack but everyone believes them dead.

When Brenna was saved from the killer, Judd was part of that and part of the healing sessions after she was brought home. Brenna healed fast (at least physically) and doesn't want to be seen as damaged but has some problems moving on from what was done to her. She's also drawn to Judd as more than a friend. However, even though he left behind the Psy world years before he wont drop his commitment to "Silence" and still acts emotionless even now that he's not in the Psy society any more. The problem for Judd is that he has a very special power that he's been told (and convinced) will hurt anyone he's around if he looses control of his feelings. So even though he could let his feelings and emotions out he doesn't feel he can for everyone's safety (especially Brenna's safety). Brenna doesn't realize what's holding Judd back and just knows that she feels a huge need for him. It doesn't help that she's starting to suspect that sometime more than emotional scars was left over in her brain and she feels Judd is the only one that she can trust to help her. Judd does try to help Brenna but also keeps trying to pull away from her, even though he really doesn't want to. Judd feels something for Brenna in return but doesn't think it's possible to be with her so he tries to fight the feelings.

There are a number of things going on in the story in addition to the romance aspect. It ends up that the killer that had Brenna in book #1 had an accomplice that is still a danger to Brenna. The Psy counsel has decided to make a move against the local packs and makes move to try to get them fighting each other, hoping the local packs will take each other out. Also Judd is working with a mysterious Psy known as "the Ghost" that's actively working against the newest innovation by the Psy counsel that would steal future Psy's free will. As all these things are taking place, Brenna and Judd slowly work towards a relationship. Judd tries to fight it at first but slowly begins to realize that Brenna is his and he can't stay away. Once he realizes this and that Brenna wont be pushed away, Judd tries to figure out how they can be together. This isn't an easy taks as Judd realizes that part of his conditioning was set up to use his own power against him if he started to break free (aka start to feel emotions). This becomes a problem as he is physically damaging himself every time he's around Brenna (not that it stops him but it hurts her to know he's in pain when he's around her). I liked the way their relationship build...the emotions are subtle but poignant and even a bit sweet. The various plot points of the story work themselves out as Judd is able to figure out a way around his conditioning to be with Brenna, the issues with the Psy counsel are dealt with and the killer's accomplice is caught. There's a very satisfactory ending as Brenna and Judd start their HEA.

I really enjoyed this story. Brenna and Judd are great and I liked how things worked out for them. The story was very interesting and engaging and I had problems stopping because I just had to see what would happen next. This was a very good addition to the series and it did very good at keeping the overall series storyline interesting. That being said, I can't wait to read the next book in the series (which I'll be starting immediately). I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up. :D

* note - I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator did a good job.

The third book in the "Psy-Changelings" series and the story of Psy and ex-Arrow, Judd Lauren and Snow Dancer wolf, Brenna Shane Kincaid.

Brenna was kidnapped and almost killed by a psychopath and since then has been broken. Things are different now, she can see things in her dreams. She's slowly dying inside and weirdly enough the only person she feels comfortable with and attracted to is none other than the cold and unapproachable Psy, Judd Lauren. She'll try to melt the ice around his heart because otherwise she will surely die. Now there's someone stalking her, killing pack mates and making her life hell. She might be afraid but Brenna will fight back, she'll never be a victim again.

Judd Lauren and what's left of his family are no longer connected to the PsyNet and while the others are breaking "Silence" and giving into their feelings he can't afford to do the same. He used to be an Arrow,an assassin for the Council and while he's not working for anyone he's still an assassin. Working secretly with the Ghost he's thwarting the Council and their evil experiments.Judd wants to protect Brenna from the dangers that surround her. Will he catch and kill the culprit in time? He can't give into his feelings for Brenna because if he breaks Silence he won't be able to control who he kills. His days are numbered if he continues on this path. He can't help touching her constantly but every time he does it shoots excruciating pain into his brain. Will they find a way to be together without either one coming to a painful death? Because no matter how much time they have left they will spend it together.

Great addition to the series! Love the pack, and especially Brenna's overprotective brothers. I can't wait to read about everyone in both packs in the other books in the series.

This third installment is by far my favorite. Judd and Brenna are both trying to build a new normal. Judd leaving the net to save his family and Brenna trying to get over her psychic and emotional rape.
Brenna was the one who pursued Judd because he seemed to be the only one who didn't put her in a "box".
Judd kept trying to push Brenna away but he can't stop feeling something for her for someone who is not suppose to feel.
I loved how they finally both healed each other.
Nalini Singh wrote 2 tortured characters that you can't help but root for.

The incredible and unique world of the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh never disappoints!

Judd Lauren is a stone cold and deadly Arrow, the boogeymen of the Psy. Or at least he was until him and his family defected from the PsyNet and escaped to the SnowDancer wolf pack. But he didn't totally abandon his life as an assassin. He works in the dark with the infamous Ghost against the power-hungry Psy Council. It not only helps him release some of his destructive power, but also distances him from Brenna. A wolf that tempts the man hidden behind Silence. But Judd fights his growing attraction and clings to Silence, because if he doesn't, he could destroy all those he holds dear.
The young wolf, Brenna Shane Kincaid, had a bright future before her kidnapping and abuse by a psychotic Psy serial killer. (Slave to Sensation) It's a miracle she made it out alive, let alone sane. But she feels tainted by evil, unable to get clean, and her two over protective brothers aren't helping matters by caging her in. Besides, there is only one man she feels safe with now, especially when bodies start emerging. Brenna's nightmare might not be at an end after all...

The world of the PsyChangeling continues to grow and evolve with each installment, I've instantly become addicted to these amazing characters and the setting the author has surrounded them in! I'm also surprised by how much I end up liking the Psy by the end of their stories because I'm usually more interested in the Changelings.

Caressed By Ice is darker then the previous two books in the series. Brenna is fighting a darkness within her caused by an atrocity set on her by a madman. But she is determined to come out ahead and not let that monster ruin her life. She is a strong leading lady and that, along with her tenacity towards Judd, is admirable. She never gave up on him, no matter how many road blocks he put in her way and I loved her wittiness and charm. Judd is a man on the edge. He feels a fierce pull towards Brenna, but he sees how other Changeling mates treat each other and despairs that he will never be able to give Brenna what she needs. But he tries, oh does he try. I was amazed how such a strong, intense character could turn so sweet. Judd has never experienced anything sexual in nature, but that doesn't mean he hasn't researched it...and when he puts that knowledge into action he doesn't just shake the bed, he shakes the whole room! Caressed By Ice is a roller coaster ride of passion, conspiracy, action and suspense.

I adore the fact that just because previous characters from the series might have had their HEA doesn't mean that is the last we see of them. I am learning (now that I am a few books ahead) that every little character appearance is integral to the overall story arc and not to take a single one for granted because you WILL see them again. Faith, Sasha, Lucas and Vaughn each play an essential role in Caressed By Ice, and Hawke....oh Hawke (the SnowDancer Alpha), how I cannot wait for your story. I have a feeling that it is going to be one wild ride!

The PsyChangeling series is incomparable to any other shifter novel you will ever read, and a must for paranormal romance and urban fantasy (romance) lovers out there! I'm really interested in the Ghost and another Arrow now, I can't wait until I get to their books.

caressed-by-ice-psy-changeling-nalini-singhWolf Changeling, Brenna Shane Kincaid, is still trying to recover from her abduction and torture at the hands of a Psy sociopath. Her physical wounds have healed, but her mental and emotional injuries are much deeper. But she’s tired of everybody, especially her brothers, being on pins and needles around her and trying to babysit and protect her. There is only one person she longs to go to with all her mixed feelings, only one person that truly makes her feel safe. Judd Lauren; which seems like an odd choice since he is not only another Psy, but even the same designation as the one that hurt her.

Judd wasn’t just your average Psy, he was a trained killer, part of the Council’s secret army, The Arrows. He can kill someone with a simple thought and he has killed many over the years. But he defected from the Psy to save his family and did it in a way that the Council believes the family to be dead. They now live with the wolf changelings, the SnowDancers. As Judd sees other Psy defecting and breaking the Psy protocol Silence that keeps them from feeling any emotions, he knows that he can never break it for himself. It’s the only thing that keeps his powers under control; without it he could hurt those around him without even meaning to. But as he grows closer to Brenna he realizes that he can no longer live the way he has for all these years. He must find a way to gain control of his powers, but to also give himself the ability to feel and give her the touches and comfort she craves.

Meanwhile, there is a killer on the loose. He has already killed one of the SnowDancer males and it quickly becomes obvious that he has his sights set on Brenna. Judd will do everything in his power to keep her safe, but will it be enough?

I felt this book got off to a pretty slow start, especially when it was delving into Judd’s past and his extracurricular activities trying to stop the Council’s latest Protocol idea for the race. And, if I ever hear the word dissonance again, I’m going to scream! It was the most overused word so far in this series; chapter 12 was by far the worst in that regard!

I thought the romance would bloom pretty quickly considering the two have both been living within the pack, have been sharing tender moments together, and the fact that there was no figuring out how Judd was to defect from the Psy since he already has. But surprisingly this relationship took quite awhile to develop. But the wait is definitely worth it! I especially loved their first time together and all of the talk about Judd’s plan. And, it only gets better from there!

I kept thinking the other things that were going on around the couple where going to have some on-the-edge-of-your –seat suspense, but they seemed to fall flat, the anticipation being better than the end product.

But, despite the flaws, I still enjoyed this book. It was nice to have a story featuring the wolves, giving us a whole new cast of characters to get acquainted with. This book has seriously whet my appetite for Hawke’s book…. Although I’m sure it’s well into the future.

Now I’m on to the next installment!

The third book in the Psy Changeling series by Ms. Singh is all about Brenna, the Snowdancer wolf who was kidnapped and tortured by the villain in the first book and Judd Lauren, a Psy Arrow, an elite soldier in the Psy Council ranks. Judd was instrumental in getting Brenna free and helping her through her recovery, since he fed Sascha power to assist in healing the mental trauma inflicted by Santano Enrique. When a Snowdancer wolf is found dead, Judd and Brenna grow closer trying to find the murderer while struggling with their attraction to each other. Brenna is understandably leery of Psy, but is inexplicably drawn to Judd. Judd supposedly feels nothing at all, but Brenna burrows deeper and deeper under his skin with every passing day.

The farther I get into the series, the harder it is to keep reviews spoiler free, so I’ll just say Judd Lauren is a dangerous Psy and he isn’t tamed by the end of this book. Loved seeing him thawing out only for this woman and how Brenna is the only one to get through his defenses. Brenna is trying to be strong, and succeeds but her trauma isn’t forgotten. The build to the Psy-changeling conflict continues to grow and while the prose can get very flowery at times, and there’s lots of “mine” as possessive alpha heroes and heroines tend to do, I’m still drawn into it all.

The Bottom Line
Loved this book, loved Judd and Brenna and am loving this series.

~ 5 Amazing Stars! ~

I love this series! Each book has pulled me in from the first page and by the end I am wanting more. I enjoy the in-depth development of the world and characters that Nalini Singh has created. One race of non-feeling arrogant beings and the other a passionate and loving race.

“Caressed By Ice” focuses quite a bit on the technical fact of the Psy and what makes them tick. We learn so much more about the Psy mind then we do in the first two books.

Judd is cold, calculating, and clinical. Brenna is still hurting from her near death experience and her emotions are all over the place. Judd and Brenna’s story is very different from the first two books in that this one deals with Brenna’s healing and Judd’s secret life.

Once the two finally slide into their own intimacy the mating was quite sensual and the anticipation of what was to be left me wanting that mating bond to occur and for them to overcome the barriers they have. It was well worth the wait to finally see them come together sexually. It was passionate, loving and Judd no longer is the ice man, but a man on fire when it comes to Brenna.

This series “Psy-Changeling” is unique and smartly written. I enjoy the authors writing and look forward to continuing the series and seeing what happens with all the interesting characters she has brought to the table in this fascinating world.

Ever since she was captured and tortured by a Psy psychopath Brenna has been struggling to put the pieces of her life back together. She may have been a victim but it takes strength to get through everything she did and come out sane on the other side. Something deep inside her has changed though and she is terrified of the new abilities she has gained, fearing that she is turning into something as evil as the Psy who held her prisoner. Visions of violence and death haunt her and when one of her pack members is brutally murdered in the same way as her dream Brenna is terrified. The only person she can turn to is Judd, he is the only one she trusts to be honest with her and who might be able to help her uncover what is happening.

Judd is an incredibly powerful Psy, one with rare abilities that make him a perfect assassin. Before he fled the Psy-Net to protect his family he was an Arrow, an elite soldier who carried out the Council's orders, no matter how terrible the things they asked of him. Now he uses his abilities to work against the Council, determined to stop them from taking Silence to the next level. The nature of his abilities make Judd an extremely powerful soldier but they also mean he is at the greatest risk of injuring someone if his emotions get the better of him. Judd is one of the Psy who embraces the Silence because he knows it will keep the people he cares about safe from his abilities. He doesn't want to break the chains and allow his emotions to the surface because he thinks he will end up hurting someone so as much as he is drawn to Brenna he is determined to keep her at arms length. Brenna isn't going to give up on him without a fight though, she knows what she wants and she will do whatever it takes to show Judd how good things could be between them.

Caressed by Ice was my favourite instalment of the series so far and there is no doubt that Judd was my favourite hero! He comes across as so cold and controlled but you just know there is so much more to him bubbling away under the surface. When he makes up his mind to go for it with Brenna there is no stopping him and he is incredibly passionate and possessive when he allows his emotions to show. I loved watching Brenna break through his icy outer layer to free the man underneath. Brenna and Judd are a fantastic couple who take time to get to know each other before they fall in love. It is harder for them to find a balance than it was for the previous couples because of the nature of Judd's abilities and the way they effect him when his emotions start to show. It isn't easy for Judd to break the hold that the Silence has on him and let Brenna under his defences. What I really liked was the way Brenna sees through the iceman act in a way that nobody else does, the other wolves have never fully accepted him as part of their pack and Judd has always deliberately kept himself at a distance from everyone else. As Judd opens up to Brenna he also starts to get to know the rest of the pack and finally begins to find his place amongst them.

Brenna has suffered so much but she refuses to break and let the man who tortured her win. She loves her pack and they brought her back from the edge but she refuses to let them keep her locked away even though they are just trying to keep her safe. I loved the relationship she has with her brothers and the SnowDancer alpha Hawke (I can't wait for his book!). Her brothers are understandably protective of her but they have started to smother her and I was glad that Hawke helped her get her freedom back. It was great to get to know more about the wolves and see the differences between their pack and the DarkRiver leopards. We are at the point in the series where we are starting to see more of the wider picture and learn about the other kinds of changelings and how the different packs all interact with each other. We are also uncovering more about just how twisted the Psy Council are and the lengths they are prepared to go to to get what they want. This series is becoming a firm favourite and I highly recommend it to paranormal romance fans.

Judd Lauren, a former Arrow that still does wet work, is trying not to be affected by his contact with Brenna(Bren) Kincaid Shane. Judd was involved with her rescue from Santano Enrique. Brenna only trusts Judd with the monsters and nightmares she faces even though it's been months since her attack. Bren doesn't let her family or other pack members into her mind no matter what. Bren calls Judd "The Original Ice Man" because of his coldness towards others. Judd knows to feel emotion is to break Silence something that he must not do ever. Yet how can he explain the feelings surrounding his attraction to Bren. Bren's brothers Riley and Andrew(Drew) are so overprotective of her that she can't breathe or feel free either. Judd seems to be the only person Bren listens too. The Psy Council is trying to implement Project I where children are implanted with device to control their emotions and other behaviors. Ghost doesn't want Project I to come to fruition period and enlists Judd's help to make it happen. Small and weak changeling packs are being attacked with no discernable pattern to their strikes. Bren and her loved ones are being attacked for no apparen reason. Who is mastermind behind Project I? Who is behind the attacks on Bren and family? Will Judd break Silence? I'm definitely liking this series a bit more with each book. It's interesting seeing the dynsmic between the Psy and Changeling. I look forward to more in this series to come. This series is well-written with rich characters and backgrounds to leave you panting for more.

Holy hotty!! The idea of the next Psy/Changeling hook-up being a male Psy both thrilled and chilled me. As the last book said there's a reason it has been females that willingly left the PsyNet first. The take on the male emotions and drive give the Psy a new depth.

Brenna is the victim of the serial killer from the first book, Slave to Sensation. She's healed a lot since then, also buried a lot. While I didn't feel 100% convinced that she was acting how someone who had experienced all she had would, it's still well written. Her journey to completely healing was an insight to the power of a strong mind. I loved that while she wasn't a kick booty hero, she was a different kind of strong. A woman of such strength to heal from evil.

Judd is the yummy male Psy, not just any male Psy, an Arrow. An elite kind of secret assassin that "doesn't exist". Trained from birth to be a killer his conditioning was a lot more involved as his power is amazing, and scary. The complex process of Silence and the truth behind how individuals are brainwashed is a disturbing insight.

Yet. Yet . . . Step it up! The plot and mystery is so predictable still. Every twist, turn, and bombshell was so easily guessed. Grrrrrrrrr. It just took away from the suspense. Even Singh's amazing writing skills can not help to compensate this time. Sometimes I can predict things better than other readers, but after asking other book buddies who've read--or are reading--this series they agreed with me. Only time will tell if the later books show growth from Singh.

Judd and Brenna's story is hawt!! Feel the passion, even if the plot is a little lack luster. The books do get better and better. The insight into the Psy Council is just enough to give readers an idea where the PsyNet stands. The rebel Ghost is a huge dose of awesome! The idea of a rebel force building in the PsyNet, growing and then maybe one day over throwing the Council, is awesome!

Sexual Content: Brenna was tortured in book 1, there's some dark stuff about that. Standard yummy Psy-Changeling bedroom scenes.

4/5- Great! Really enjoyed it

I'm fairly new to this series. I only just started reading it a couple of months ago. I love this world NS has created, and in Caressed By Ice, we find out more about the Council, the Ghost and more about Brenna's ordeal from book 1. And while I enjoyed all of that, what I enjoyed most was Judd and his relationship with Brenna.

I have to say Judd is my type. I love that surly, remote, volcano about to blow type who finally meets his match, the one woman who pushes him over the edge. I love to see a man like that fall, and fall hard. Judd's tall, dark and deadly, handsome with dark hair and black intense eyes, just piercing eyes. He's icy and remote but smoldering underneath. I couldn't wait for him to lose his cool.

Also, Judd's that wounded hero in that he has never had love or passion or closeness. No emotions at all. And his past haunts him, even if he denies that it does. Redemption was a word the author used for Judd and his past. Brenna is the wounded heroine, too. I really liked her. She's been through hell when a Psy (a powerful one like Judd) kidnapped her and raped her mentally and brutalized her physically with torture. Brenna is still wounded mentally, but she is becoming strong and spunky again.

There's so much going on with these two because of where they've been and what they've been through; yet, when they are together, you feel a certain tenderness and closeness between them. And I loved this. I couldn't wait for them to get together. I loved how Brenna knew she wanted Judd and how Judd really tried to resist her, believing he could not be the man she needed him to be.

I love a hot sex scene like anybody, but I can do without that in a book IF the author gives me that connection and that chemistry in other ways, and NS did, completely. It's even better when that same author gives me a sex/love scene where h/H are finally letting go. It wasn't overly erotic, and I didn't expect it to be, but it was sexy as hell. The sexual tension is off the charts. You can practically feel it.

Judd is like the Ice Man but he's thawing and letting those emotions like possessiveness and jealousy and passion loose. He told Brenna that once she's said yes to him, there was no going back for her. She's his forever. I LOVE that. I loved experiencing their simmering passion, need, and longing. I really love when two characters long for each other, struggle with the desire, but soon give in to it.

I could just eat Judd up with a spoon. When Brenna tells him she wants to lick him head to toe, I'm like, know what you mean! To me, Judd is so sexy and sweet and strong, yet needy and vulnerable in his own way. He needs Brenna, and when he realizes that, and gives into that, it was special. Judd is special. I loved him and this story.

What a perfect time to have written Caressed by Ice in the Phy-Changeling series. With Slave to Sensation and Visions of Heat having the combo of Phy females to the Cat males and then now switching it up and offering an interesting story about a Phy male and a Wolf female was very well orchestrated. Same story staple but with different dynamics and different dramas made for one hell of an awesome read. I love that this is my third book in and I am still giving straight 5 heart ratings.

Also introduced in Caressed by Ice is a very interesting new character only known as "Ghost". Nalini is genius to give us that character because it now throws in a mystery element to the turmoil of the PhyNet. I am just dying to know who it is. If you know, don't ruin it for me! I have my suspicions and it would be totally cool if it was true. I don't think we are going to find out who this person is for awhile yet. That's my guess anyways.

Brenna is mentally a bit damaged as a result of her mind rape from now the deceased Phy Enrique. It was heart breaking to read what she went through those long days when she was captured. I am glad we are revisiting her soon so that we can read about her recovery. It was very interesting that the "Ice Man" Judd ended up being her match considering how affectionate the wolf pack is.

How perfect is the name Judd? A one syllable name for a cold emotionless Phy is perfectly suited. I'd bet Nalini went to great lengths to name the character Judd. Excellent. I loved reading all about his abilities and his struggles to disconnect from Silence. The path he was required to take was different from both Sascha and Faith. We had to wait almost the entire book for Brenna and Judd to be an officially accepted mated couple and it was worth every last word.

Brenna's brother drove me crazy with their protectiveness. At little over the top as its not like she was a teenager. True she went through a lot with her captivity but her frustration was well felt by the reader.

I am glad that they had a villain in the pack. It felt more realistic to not have every changeling apart of a perfect society. Even humans have villains amongst us so it was validated that the changelings can be just as fractured as humans or Phy. Even addiction penetrates close nit societies.

I totally love the direction that this series is going and I have no recommendations on what I would change.

Brenna and Judd are both strong, very strong. Overcoming their pasts to find their way to a future together requires that strength. As usual in Singh's stories there are moments of humor and some very touching scenes as well as suspense and romance and this time more mystery. I set out to re-read series in order. Have to keep in mind what I would know if I hadn't read future stories, some more than once. The tactical and technical brilliance of the Changelings is becoming more evident. More information about other Changeling groups, Hints about the Ghost in the Psy Net. More information about Psy council members. Some now seem more ambitious and ruthless than intelligent. I'm enjoying these more reading them in order but the individual books held up well when I read them starting with the later ones then reading the earlier ones.

~* 4.5 Stars *~
She suffered unimaginable torture at the hands of a psychopath, but Brenna Kincaid of the SnowDancer pack was rescued and her torturer slayed. Living with the memories, though, haunts the young wolf changeling and recovery has been slow. So much was taken from her that she still feels broken inside, but she hides her fears and the scars from her trauma behind a short temper and a grim determination. Then the body of a changeling male bearing shockingly familiar marks on his body is found in the pack den and Brenna's strength is shattered by the memories of a nightmare that are all too painfully real. Fighting for her sanity, rebelling against her overprotective brothers, Brenna turns to the one man who provides the cool comfort she desperately needs.

Judd Lauren, one of the Lauren family who defected from the PsyNet and has been living with the SnowDancers ever since, is decidedly and unemotionally Psy. Trained as an assassin and carrying the deadliest of Psy designations, a Tk-Cell who can stop a victim's heart with a thought, Judd has no intention of breaking Silence like other PsyNet defectors Sasha Duncan and Faith NightStar did. He can't, because without Silence, one stray negative emotion would lay waste to anyone close to him. Since being a part of Brenna's rescue and rehabilitation, though, she has taken to turning up around him, and his notice is teetering dangerously close to feelings with which he has no experience...and which cause him greater and greater pain.

When the dead changeling is found and Brenna tells Judd of her nightmare it becomes clear that her safety is still in serious jeopardy. Someone is out to stop her from revealing what she knows, and Judd is willing to suffer whatever pain his mind inflicts on him to keep her safe. It's not emotional...Judd is Psy, after all...but the longer he protects Brenna the more he realizes that emotional or not, Brenna is his, and he'll kill anyone who tries to harm her.

This third book in the Psy-Changelings series hits even more of my happy-reader buttons than the first two. The world has been nicely fleshed out by now, and while Singh continued to expand it here, she still had more room to work with and provided a greater depth of development to the lead characters and the plot of their romance than existed in either of the first two books. Also, the complexity of the roadblocks to that romance were more expansive and seemed to have higher and steeper penalties, and several subplots and additional plot threads added even more depth to the overall story.

Brenna is the sort of strong, independent female lead I prefer in books, even wounded as she is, and I enjoyed seeing her go after Judd with a fierce determination to land her man, regardless of past trauma. That being said, I was highly impressed at how deftly Singh handled believable and realistic consequences of that trauma on both a physical and emotional level. Brenna definitely came off as sympathetic and likable, and she showed an understandable vulnerability that didn't at all compromise her strength and vitality. It was pretty remarkable seeing her walk that line.

To be honest, though, Judd was my favorite character in the book. I loved seeing a male Psy's perspective as his character evolved, and I loved having a character who was so dark and with such a deadly history as this male lead. Singh really showed off some mad skills as layers of Judd's personality were defined, slightly altered, redefined, and altered again as his character stretched against the bonds in his mind. I found him fascinating and ultimately sympathetic despite his history as a deadly Arrow. And some of those moments when he was confused by the emotions or cues he witnessed between mated couples were heartbreaking and endearing.

There were many tantalizing plot threads and subplots throughout the book, and I was particularly intrigued by the Ghost. The Council continues to be pitted against the changelings, sometimes to horrifying results, but the more subtle tales of hive minds and revolution within the net are just as tantalizing and offer more of the moral ambiguity issues that I've come to appreciate in the series.

A few minor concerns kept this book just shy of a five star read for me, and most of those surround the latter part of the book and the conclusion. I felt like Judd's problems were a bit too quickly and easily resolved after almost an entire book of why they couldn't be, and the stopgap measure seemed a little too convenient given the nature of the battleground of his mind. Brenna's biggest issue disappeared very abruptly with little explanation and too many unanswered questions. I also felt like Judd and Brenna glossed over some of the inherent problems with the level of Judd's power even after issues were resolved. Titanium furniture? Really?

Unlike most paranormal romance series I've read, though, the Psy-Changelings series genuinely seems to be building towards a large conflagration where the fate of three races hang in precarious balance and a predetermined set of plot points are leading up to an uncertain (for the reader) but carefully plotted outcome. I find that very appealing, because it has served to keep the series on a steady course of continual development and fosters the very sort of cohesion between books and their characters that adds to the robust nature of the stories within this series. Frankly, I can't wait to see what happens next.

Judd and Brenna a hot combination!

I liked this book even better than the previous two.

Judd a renegade Arrow (Psy elite soldier with the license to kill) is deep into Silence but not because he is forced. He makes a conscious decision to remain in Silence so that he can control his Tk abilities (telekinetic) and not kill himself or others.
Brenna is a tortured and battered wolf of the Snowdancer pack; she is still recovering from her abduction and abuse but finds herself strangely attached to Judd.
The romance in this book was not hot and heavy because Judd every time he touches Brenna is risking his life and Brenna is too emotionally connected to him to try push him harder, so the slow tension and their unfulfilled passion is totally off the charts and their eventually lovemaking is so good.....so so good!

This book is taking place in the wolf den and we get an insight of alot of interesting characters. Brennas brothers Drew and Riley, Indigo and of course Hawke (hot, hot wolf) and Judds' family are one interesting mix of people I want to know more about. We even get a glimpse of the leopard pack and Dorian........

There is no main plot in this book all threads are open and every page reveals new facts to the readers. Ghost, Judd and his friend the priest and their secret mission for the destruction of the labs and the Protocol I project, the Council and Nikita who is trying to cause a war between the packs, the last threat on Brenna's life, the hyenas and the assault on the non predatory packs the deers .

Everything and everyone is still in the game, I'm off reading the next one.

Still a good read but my least fav in this series after Riley and Mercy's story. I did not like how abrasive Mercy was and she was just annoying even if I prefer my women strong. I was looking forward to Judd's story but I think somehow, someway their chemistry just fell flat for me. I passed this and then went back and sometimes, it is good to note the reviews. Even Talin of Clay, who was also "broken" and grated on my nerves came thru for me. I can't quite pinpoint it but this book did not make me cry at all unlike the others in this series.

I am SOOO loving this series!!! So far, this was my favorite story. I guess it was because we finally got to see the story of a male Psy escapee, whereas the first two stories were about female Psy escapees. I also liked that the series flipped from the Dark River leopards to the Snow Dancer wolves. That was a great turn in the series.

Loved the storyline between Judd and Brenna and how their chemistry developed. An added bonus of this series is that it's really great about introducing other really great characters so as to get you pre-hooked on future books. I also love the relationships between the two packs, Snow Dancer and Dark River. So many wonderful characters to get to know.

Can't wait to start the next series in the book about Clay from the Dark River leopards.

Brenna Kincaid was abducted by a Psy serial killer in Slave to Sensation. While she was saved, her torturer left her forever different. This might be why she was drawn to Judd Lauren, the Man of Ice, a perfect Psy conditioned by Silence. Judd was a soldier, an Arrow, a secretive elite force working for the Council, before he left the PsyNet with his family. Having given sanctuary by the SnowDancers, a changeling wolf pack, Judd continues to work as a soldier on the side in a small revolution against the Psy Council.

Brenna is an interesting mix of courage and vulnerability. She is strong willed, otherwise she wouldn't have survived her abduction, but at the same time she needs someone to lean on. Although she knows that Judd cannot give her the touch she needs, she still seeks him out. In any romance, I always like the heroine who chases after the hero, and this is no exception. Brenna, no matter how hard Judd tries to push her away, refuses to give up. She's a girl who knows what she wants and sets out to get it no matter the obstacles.

Judd is the perfect product of Silence, cold, logical, emotionless. Yet, Silence for him helps him to control his dangerous abilities, abilities that allow him to kill with a mere thought. This is where the book gets a bit confusing. The whole conditioning and Silence and how it affects him and how he can break it could be a bit clearer. I suppose it's because it's too abstract that just confuses me, but otherwise Judd is great. His need to touch Brenna makes him uncaring of the pain caused by dissonance. While he is the "Man of Ice", at the end we see his true possessive nature just like many of the changelings, not to mention his sense of justice that led him to question his Council.

I definitely liked the first two books better - personally I just prefer the cats - but this is a worthy addition to the series. Good job, Ms. Singh!

Judd Lauren is a Psy Arrow, trained to kill. The Silence enforced by the Psy Council is all that reigns him in, and so he maintains that Silence, even after his defection from both the Council and the PsyNet. Brenna Kincaid, a changeling from the SnowDancer clan, threatens the Silence encasing his emotions, but Judd can't turn his back on Brenna. Brenna survived the ravages of one madman already, but now another is threatening the safety of her world. Will Judd be able to keep Brenna safe?

CARESSED BY ICE is the third installment in what is proving to be a top notch series. Nalini Singh has crafted a fabulous world, populated with humans, the Psy, and an assortment of shapeshifters. CARESSED BY ICE can be read as a stand alone, but the intricate details of this complex world will be missed if one overlooks the two previous books. SLAVE TO SENSATION and VISIONS OF HEAT. Brenna had a difficult role in SLAVE TO SENSATION and it is very rewarding to see her healing so well in CARESSED BY ICE.

Nalini Singh has solidified her spot as one of the leading authors in the genre with CARESSED BY ICE. I simply can't rave enough about this series! The flawless prose draws the reader into this compelling story. The power of love and physical touch is so aptly described and the visual images are nothing short of spellbinding. Nalini Singh perfectly captures the mythology of her world through the strength of her characters. One cannot help but love Judd, even as he struggles with his inner demons.

CARESSED BY ICE is a must read for fans of the genre! Nalini Singh takes readers on a whirlwind thrill ride in which the power of emotions is fully conveyed. CARESSED BY ICE is a very satisfying and exceptionally well-written book that easily vaults Ms. Singh to the top. Don't miss out on CARESSED BY ICE as the journey is well worth every moment spent savoring this beautiful tale.

CARESSED BY ICE. BOOK 3 CHANGELING-PSY SERIES

As a lethal and trained Arrow, a member of an elite force of soldiers trained to uphold the Law of Silence, Judd Lauren is a lethal weapon. He can kill with a single thought and has had much blood on his hands. When the Council selects to wipe his entire bloodline, he decides to defect taking his family into SnowDancer territory. The Wolf Pack is known for their affinity with children - so he hopes that even though they might kill him, at least they will save his sisters children. It is a sacrifice he is prepared to take.

Brenna Kinkaid has survived the horrors that a psychopath Psy serial killer put her through when she was tortured and abducted. Physically recovered from her wounds, she has been mentally "damaged" by some of the mind-conditioning the killer left behind. She seems to have acquired Psy abilities and the only one that she can turn to is Judd, who was also there when she was rescued. Her worst nightmare is that she has lost the ability to change into her wolf form. She doesn't quite know what it is about Judd that draws her to him - yes, he is unmistakably beautiful in his icy and expressionless demeanor - yet she believes that someone that took such a risk to ensure safety and freedom for his family - has to have feelings buried deep inside.

Judd's telekinetic powers are very powerful. In his training, blocking programs were implanted inside his brain to prevent him from accidentally killing through his Tk powers. Unfortunately, these implanted brain functions are meant to cause trauma, agonizing pain and hemorrhaging to prevent any kind of emotional feeling or physical contact with other people.

Changelings thrive in the sense of touch. Brenna has survived the horrors of her capture - but someone has targeted her and wants her dead. Judd realizes that above all he wants to keep Brenna safe - as he is not that impervious to her as he would like, as he realizes that he wants Brenna to be his - but his brain functions are slowly deteriorating because of it.

As he is allowed to remain with the Wolf Pack, he sees how fiercely loyal the Wolves are and how being Pack provides a much-needed sense of belonging and loyalty - something that he's never experienced. He also realizes how strong his Psy Tk powers.

This is a complex and beautifully written love story with highly emotionally charged moments. Nalini Singh has brilliantly and skillfully crafted a very real world of Changelings-Psy. Judd and Brenna's story is interlaced superbly well with the other characters - each of which have such an integral and powerful role in the series. CARESSED BY ICE is a marvelous novel - tender, poignant, intense and sexy as hell - this is one book that is going to remain in your keeper shelf. Thank you Nalini!

REVIEW:
Just when I think that Vaughn is my favorite Judd Lauren walks into my life. All tall, dark, cool and oh my goodness yummy!!!! I totally loved everything about Judd and Brenna’s story. These two are so beyond perfect together. I am so glad that Brenna never gave up on Judd. :)
This story had a lot of ups and downs that at times I wondered how Nalini was going to pull it all off. But being the amazing story teller that she is Nalini made everything perfect.
Again another amazing story from Nalini and another amazing reading by Angela! These two are an amazing pair. I am already on to the next audio book in this series and as long as Nalini keeps turn out amazing stories and Angela narrates them I will keep going on audio in this series.

Changeling Brenna Shane Kincaid is a fighter. She's fought against her overprotective brothers who don't want to let her grow up. She fought against a Psy madman who invaded her brain and tried to steal a part of her soul. And most recently, she's fighting Judd Lauren, a distant, aloof Psy who resides in her SnowDancer home. The one thing about Brenna, though, is she always seems to win these fights.

Judd Lauren was a soldier in the most elite Psy army, the Arrows. Judd has been conditioned to see emotion as the enemy and to avoid it at all cost. Judd is, instead, focused on ensuring his family has sanctuary as he continues to fight in a war against the Psy. What Judd doesn't realize is that Brenna can be hard to resist, and that the emotion he so heartily tries to escape just might be the thing that will save him...

Caressed by Ice is by far my favorite in the Psy-Changeling series. Slave to Sensation was a good introduction to the series, but I like the connection between Judd and Brenna more than that between Sascha and Lucas. And despite my best efforts, I just couldn't get into Visions of Change. Not so with this story. From the beginning I was drawn to the trauma that Brenna had overcome and Judd's place in rebuilding her life. I liked that Brenna was the aggressor since I'm so used to the hero having to chase down a reluctant heroine. It was a nice change. And most of all, I just felt like these two "got" each other. It was nice watching them fall for each other, and I loved that they didn't just jump into bed with one another, but instead took time to get to know each other and learn how to make it work. If you liked the other books in the Psy-Changeling series, I'm sure you'll enjoy this one, but if you haven't read them, I'd suggest reading Slave to Sensation and Visions of Change first.

I really loved "Slave To Sensation", the first book in this series (Psy/Changeling) by Nalini Singh. However the follow-up, "Visions Of Heat", although a good read wasn't at the same level. However the teaser chapter at the end of that book for the third in the series, "Caressed By Ice", made it look interesting. And indeed it was, Nalini Singh is definitely back to form, in fact in some ways this book is even better.

The first two books have focussed on female protagonists who are members of the Psy race, a kind-of Mr Spock emotionless but permanently in a Mind Meld group of superhumans. They are permanently attached to the PsyNet and are told that if they leave the Net they will die. However in the first two books our heroines discover this isn't entirely true, that functioning of the PsyNet in 'Silence' often covers up great crimes and that they are able to leave - with the help of their changeling mates, of course.

"Caressed by Ice" took us in a slightly different direction because the heroine, Brenna, is one of the wolves and the hero, Judd Lauren, is a Psy. He and some members of his family were introduced to us in the first book and we learned more about them in the second. However in this book we really begin to understand about Judd and his role within the Psy - that of assassin. Judd has very special Psy powers which mean that if he ever breaks Silence he will probably kill those around him at the first moment of any stress. Brenna is a damaged wolf after she was kidnapped and tortured in the previous book in the series and yet she finds something about Judd that calms her. Perhaps it's because he seems to be able to understand her fears about lasting effects from the attack - or perhaps there's more to it. And yet Brenna, as a wolf, needs emotion and closeness from Judd and yet for him it is fearsomely dangerous. How can this be resolved?

There are some other underlying threads in this book, we learn a little more about Hawke the Alpha of the wolves, more about the Psy council and some of Judd's activities as he continues to work as an assassin for 'The Ghost'. However the major part of this book is about Judd and Brenna coming to understanding about each other, about their own problems and limitations, about the cultural differences between Psy and Wolves and more. It's always an enjoyable read with more depth to some of the side characters than in many of the other novels and is another excellent adventure in the world that Nalini Singh has created.

I’ve fallen in love. This is the third book in the series which I have read, and I must confess that Judd has become my new book boyfriend. I fell in love with his cold introverted composure. His military like background of being an assassin and the mixed emotions he has about Brenna, a damaged Chaneling a part of her wolf pack.
Although Brenna at times can be pushy towards him it is required to take this man, who so desperately tries to run away from her, yet longing to be with her. The progress with the Psy councils and there is betrayal amongst the midst as Brenna becomes a target. But with Judd unable to escape her, he won’t let harm come to her, no matter how much pain it puts him in or even near death.
I think my favourite part of this book was that he researched many ways of how he would first make love to Brenna, as he has never had interest in a woman or making love to a woman. And let me just say it was well planned. Love this book so much. Fantastic series, and yay I have another to read.

When I finished reading Visions of Heat I hoped that in Caressed by Ice I would meet a couple I'd love yet again and Singh did not disappoint me: Brenna and Judd touched my heart with their unbelievable strong will to fight for their love.

Caressed by Ice is in no way an easy novel. Singh writes about a few really difficult topics like abuse and rape and I was curious how she would choose to deal with it. I was glad that she did not get to much into detail and mostly concentrated on Brenna's mental state. It was so easy to connect to Brenna and her pain, because she is a lovely person one just has to admire for her strength and will to stay sane. She is a really strong-minded female and I felt with her all the time. I exactly understood her longing to be free and her fear of loosing herself in the process.

Judd is not what Brenna needs, as she has to recover from the physical and emotional wounds she suffered. She knows it and he knows it as well. Judd is cold, merciless and conditioned to not feel anything. She needs touch and affection to not loose herself to insanity. However, both feel that there is more to them and are willing to risk everything in order to find out what that is - even their own lives.

This is the first novel that features the SnowDancer den and not the DarkRiver's. I was surprised to find myself enjoying this "family" just as much and came to love a lot of characters. Brenna's brothers are exactly like you picture big brothers: overprotective and prejudiced when it comes to potential boyfriends. Yet, their criticism doesn't stand a chance, because Brenna got one mind of her own and her abduction showed her when to leash out. She does not want to be caged ever again, but her brothers are slowly crushing her with their need to keep her safe.
The plot this time concentrates on finding the evil person who sold out Brenna to the sociopath councilor. The reader is also introduced to another rebel Psy, who is still hooked to the Psynet. I know it will be one hell of a surprise to find out who the Ghost actually is...

It's both funny and frightening to follow Brenna's and Judd's story. There are so many horrific elements that kept me reading and reading, but there are just as much lovely situations when Judd actually shows signs of affection and love.
Their story is a beautiful one and I think their love is one of the most purest in the whole series. I really loved to see them interact and the ending is so stunningly beautiful that it brought me to tears.

The Yearning Mermaid says: "Book #3 in the Psy/Changeling series introduces the reader to the Snow Dancers and the new characters will touch your heart! I know for sure they touched mine!"

When Brenna Kincade of the Snow Dancer Pack was tortured, no
one thought she would be the same. They were right.
Caressed By Ice is the third in the Psy/Changeling Series and
so far my expectations have far been exceeded with author Nalini
Singh. Judd Lauren, former Psy Arrow, had dropped from the Net with
his family to escape Rehabilitation, which is worse than death. Now
living with the Snow Dancer Pack, a pack of wolf changelings, Judd
just doesn't fit in. His family has been more excepted, for they
show more promise of breaking Silence. Silence has basically wiped
out emotions of any kind from the Psy race. A race known for their
cold machine like behavior. Judd fears breaking Silence or having
any emotions. We find out that by feeling, Judd's Psy powers could
end up hurting somebody, could even kill those he cares about and he
just won't risk that. Especially when it comes to Brenna. Brenna,
still having doubts about herself after experiencing the worse kind
of torture, seems to only want comfort from the one man who can't
give it to her. And it seems that Santano Enrique, the Psy killer
who tortured Brenna, had done something with Brenna's brain,
unlocking a door that she can't shut. Making her have Psy-like
qualities that she doesn't want. Judd seems to be the only one she
can turn to when her nightmares haunt her. The other pack mates,
including her brothers, don't trust Judd. They still treat her as if
she is broken, or will break at any moment. She can't stand that and
Judd, being the Psy that he is, tells it like it is and pulls no
punches. The more Brenna tries to get Judd to break Silence, the
more he holds strong. Judd knows that even though Santano Enrique
was killed during Brenna's rescue, someone is still after her. It
seems that betrayal has come from the once place it shouldn't, inside
the pack.
All the while Judd is also helping the Ghost. The Ghost is
someone still connected to the Net but is trying to stop the Council
from taking Silence to far. Talk of implants to the brains of the
Psy have more and more people worried of what will happen with the
future of the Psy race. Even some members of the Council are
concerned with the progression of the implants. Although none of the
Council members are trusting of each other, there are still
alliances. Though how those alliances will turn out is just one of
the many reasons to keep up with this series.
I never knew that by reading Slave to Sensation (The Psy-Changelings, Book 1), the first in
series, that I would be pulled deeply in to Singh's world of Psy and
Changelings. The way that she has the two races not only fighting
with each other but also coming together is absolutely intriguing.
With Caressed By Ice, we find out what happens with Brenna and get a
better look into the Lauren family. We also get to see how the
characters from the first two books are doing and get hints of how
future books and characters may come along. I'm loving this series
with every story that comes out.

Caressed by Ice is my favorite Psy/Changeling book. Which is saying something because I didn't want to read it at first. I didn't think I would be interested in an 'emotionless psy' not when there were hot blooded changelings running around.

I was wrong.

I think Judd Laurens is one of the most fleshed out characters Nalini Singh has created to date. I loved him. I felt for him. I tingled for him. It's true what they say, 'still waters run deep'

Judd and Brenna's story was the best in my opinion. The storyline was riveting and believable. I think that's one of the best things about Nalini Singh is that she can make you believe in this world. In the first two books she made it seem like the Changelings were far better people then the Psy but in Caressed By Ice she showed you that even the Changelings can be evil and that not all Psy are cold and distant but that some are quietly trying to break the chains of Silence as best they are able.

I think I even like the SnowDancer clan better than DarkRiver. Hawke, the alpha wolf of SnowDancer is really compelling and you read a little bit about his history. Plus his interactions with Judd's niece Sienna is a hoot.

If you haven't started this series, then start it. NOW. It is one of my favorites. Don't start with this one though because Judd and Brenna's story actually begins in the first book, Slave To Sensation and it's best to read a series in order (unlike me who read SK's Book 10 Dark Side Of The Moon first and am still bitter about it *grumble*)

I Liked this Book, but i didn't love it. I don't know if its because its not the first book of the series and i had to read the one before first to understand what is going on or what. But I felt there was alot of reference to the previous stories. ( and if they weren't it felt like it was.) That is really my only complaint. I really love the strength shown by Brenna after her ordeal ( even though she thought she was losin it when the first body was found and it was the same as the nightmares. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cold raw sexiness of Judd. Yummy I would love to WARM up this stone cold fox!! I love the raw sexually to rolls off these two in waves. This was a great as far as background description and story line goes (at least from what i gathered) and i will be getting the ones before to see if I raise my rating!! I thought it was pretty good over all and would recommend it to anyone who has read the ones before it first!! Thanks so much good reads for the first read!!! I hope i can win more!!

Incredible! Caressed by Ice is the 3rd book in Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series. I was lucky enough to be chosen to post an early review and I have to say this book exceeded my high expectations. I thought the Psy-Changeling world couldn't get any better. . .Wow was I wrong! Anyone who doubts a Psy male can equal a changeling male in sexiness and alpha male yummy-ness be assured Judd, the elite Psy soldier, more than earns his own alpha male category!

Judd's background story is finally revealed and his family members' back story is explored further. There is even a startling revelation about Hawke that really makes for an exciting development for that sexy wolf's future story. The connection and desire between Judd and Brenna is just scorching! I loved how Brenna wouldn't let Judd ignore what was between them and how even as Judd struggled to stay away, he always sought her out. Every scene with Judd and Brenna carried an intensity that has become a trademark for Singh's work. In actuality each character's interaction from Brenn's brothers and packmates to Judd's niece is just so poignant. The plot moves along fast as we find ourselves in a sort of quest by Brenn and Judd to figure out what her kidnapper (from Visions of Heat, 2nd book in series) has done to her mind. The political agenda of the Psy council is a continuing engrossing subplot, its like watching a chess game.
This story delves further into the Councils underhanded dealings and the changelings counter moves. Singh pulls the reader into the story by creating a graphic world with gripping characters. I hate leaving Singh's world when I've finished her book but I look forward to my next visit! This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This series just gets better and better. Judd and Brenna's story was a very intense one that had me on the edge of my seat. I wondered how the story was going to unfold with a psy assassin and an emotionally damaged girl who couldn't shift. I don't want to give too much away, just know that the story was fraught with tension, battles and a good healthy dose of justice. Not to mention an ending that wasn't too shabby.

One of the things I like the most about this series is that we never lose sight of the characters from books 1 and 2, Lucas and Sascha, Vaughn and Faith are still present and accounted for in book 3. The struggle that we've seen the psy characters go through to break through their conditioning and push silence aside is still present in book 3, even more so because of Judd's special designation.

Also the story is loaded with sexual tension without being over run with page after page of sex. The anticipation along with the logic and Singh's writing style make this a winner for me. Five stars!!!!

In Caressed by Ice we catch up with characters first introduced in Slave to Sensation - the first book in the series. Brenna Kincaid is still feeling the aftershocks of her abduction and fears the full extent of what the abuse and torture may have done to her. She becomes increasingly drawn to Judd Lauren one of the Psy taking refuge with the Wolves. But he cannot feel emotion and she cannot contain hers. Will they find a way to make a future together.

This is my favourite book in the series so far. I initially thought this was a more standalone story and could be appreciated without having read the previous two books. However, having finished the book I no longer think this is the case. Although CBI takes place away from the leopards, at the Snow Dancer wolf pack, the overall arc of the Psy/Changeling story has some major developments here which I think are best appreciated having read Slave to Sensation and Visions of Heat. Plus both sets of protagonists from those books appear here, so I think it's beneficial to know the backstory.

I found Judd fascinating. And thought he gave a much clearer impression of what it means to be Psy. He has so much control, and underneath he's not bubbling like a volcano, he doesn't feel rage, there's just more control. With Judd you realize what Silence truly is, from someone who embraces it because they have to. Some readers may prefer the animalistic intensity of the Changeling heroes, but I liked Judd's determination to find a way to be with Brenna.

Brenna is a curious mixture of vulnerability and intense anger. Her relationship with her brothers - I loved. I thought Nalini Singh captured the sibling capacity for annoyance and affection perfectly. When things in the Changeling world start to fall apart and everyone's loyalty comes under question, this family strength almost becomes a double edged sword. And you stand with Brenna questioning exactly what her brothers are capable of.

I loved that Brenna and Judd's mating wasn't as smooth or immediate as in the previous two books. That would have been unrealistic. This was something the two of them had to puzzle out together. I liked the slow intensity of it. And I look forward to catching up with them in later books.

There was a lot of other stuff happening as well, this book was packed with information. We discover more about the wolf pack structure, and we also learn much more about the Psy in this book, including some of their history. The Psy council take their machinations to a higher level of brutality, and new alliances are formed. We get quite a lot of Kaleb, including some tidbits about his past. Nalini Singh has managed to maintain his ambiguity, I'm hoping he turns up again in Book 4. And we find out a little more about Walker Lauren, Sienna Lauren and Hawke - whose story I'm patiently waiting for, one of his conversations with Brenna is short, beautiful and heartbreaking.

Although the next book Mine to Possess isn't out 'til February. Nate and Tamsyn's story will be available as a short story in the October anthology An Enchanted Season. Which is good 'cause patience isn't really one of my virtues. :)

Caressed by Ice, the 3rd installment set in Nalini Singh's fascinating Psy-Changeling world, is a wonderful mix of steamy tension building romance and actual series building plot. Brenna and Judd, introduced in Slave to Sensation (The Psy-Changelings, Book 1) take center stage. Theirs is no easy hook-up.

Judd Lauren a gorgeous cold as ice Psy, is a former assassin rigidly conditioned to be emotionless. Any touch or hint of emotion brings him physical pain. Because of the type of his Psy powers, Judd accepts that he can never break his conditioning, knowing that without the control he would be deadly to those closest to him.

Brenna is a changling wolf, irrevocably altered by the psychic/physical brutalization that almost claimed her life. Her fear that she has been infected by the evil of her kidnapper spikes when she dreams a murder that comes true. Brenna is drawn to the cool warrior, Judd is the only one she trusts, the only one who deals with her logically and the only one who can see what she needs to be healed. As Brenna breaches walls of Judd's conditioning, Judd becomes unwilling to deny the desire he shouldn't feel. It soon becomes clear that to love Brenna as she should be loved, may mean Judd's death as his powers turn against him to reinforce his conditioning. Though he should stay away from Brenna, and deny himself her touch and his growing passion - when her life is threatened, Judd will risk everything to be the one to protect her.

In addition to doing a fine job of developing the relationship between Judd and Brenna, the Singh also continues to flesh out her world and provide more insight into the ongoing political machinations of the Psy council with all their plots and schemes. She uses old characters effectively, giving them more than just walk ons. We get to see Sasha and Lucas from Slave to Sensation (The Psy-Changelings, Book 1), and Faith and Vaughn from Visions of Heat (The Psy-Changeling Series, Book 2) (Berkley Sensation). She better aquaints us with more members of the changeling world, including Hawke the Snow Dancer Alpha, as well as the rest of the Judd's Psy refugee family. She give us glimpse of how their Psy powers are developing now that the are living in a world where emotion is embraced.

Caressed by Ice keeps Nalini Singh firmly on my must buy list. Keep them coming! Next up are a short story in An Enchanted Season which is a prequel with Nate and Tamsyn's story (there is an excerpt on the author's website) and Mine to Possess out next year.

I seem to be in the minority after reading these reviews, but for me Caressed By Ice is the best of this series. The former two books, Slave To Sensation and Visions of Heat were not in the same league as this one is.

What sets this book apart is that the Psy in this book is male, not female. The Psy through Silence have become a race of people devoid of emotion. I guess that I have an easier time accepting this trait in a man rather than a woman as the other two books feature.

I also enjoyed Brenna. I did not think she was immature and stalker-like toward Judd. She is a woman who had endured severe torture and survived. She knows what she wants and what is destined to be and has the courage to chase it...or HIM in this case.

This world continues to be complex and in depth. Maybe one day I'll really "get it"...until then I'm still looking for Hawke's story!

We are constantly, and I do mean constantly reminded of just how much an ice man he is. Never for a moment would Nalini let me forget that Judd was an assassin who could kill, who had ice running through his brains. I was about to start calling him a liar and claim that he was just all talk. But then, how can you argue with bleeding ears? So yeah, he convinced me. I was happy for Brenna's relationship with him.

Poor Brenna had been though so much. After her abduction, she was so alone. Well actually she was sheltered by her two brothers and her SnowDancer pack, but she was alone because she didn't have anyone to love. For some reason she falls in love in with Judd.

Judd, of course, doesn't feel much. He's Psy, he's cold, he's strong, he's an assassin (rinse, repeat, rinse, then repeat about a million more times to get the full effect). Anywho, I liked him because he was hardcore bad, he's a telekinetic, he's a level awesome on the awesome scale and he had a great poker face.

As for the story, it pretty much follows the same storyline as the other books. The cold (stinky) Psy are the bad guys who are up to something. There must be at least one bad person that needs to be taken care of. Oh, and can't forget that both hero and heroine have personal obstacles that they need to overcome. Usually, the one with the worst obstacle has to beat it or die. Why can't they get more choices??

And I don't want to read any more of these. I don't even like them all that much. But I can't stop. It's not even like I want to know what happens with everyone.. Ok that's a lie, I do want to know. Mainly, I want to know what will happen with the leader of the Wolf Pack. In order to get there I must read the books in order so I don't miss anything. So those are the rules and I can't break them. Or at least, that's the blatant lie I'm using to convince myself.

Ohhh, my goodness! I really enjoyed this one! Judd is my kind of Psy! I love how he protects Brenna even when his growing love for her is killing him. And Brenna? Well, way to go, girl! She survived hell, stayed sane, and got herself one hot, fantastic man who only has eyes for her. Brenna and Judd are just another example of two people who love each other enough to find a way to be together.

The whole Psy-Changeling world fascinates me and I’m so looking forward to reading more in this amazing series.

Focused. Strong. True.

Even though I thought the book was a little hard to read, I found it quite a page turner. You really do have to read book 1 (Slave to Sensation) as well as book 2 (Visions of Heat) to understand. It was a good thing that the release period between each books were not so long that one forget what happen before. Plus the author did a great job of taking us back to the story before without overwhelming us with it. She gives you a review without feeling that you're reading the previous book over again. There's been times where I would read the next installment in the series and the authors would replay or retold the stories of the previous couples on how they met, what happen to them and how they overcome the obstacles over and over that if you take out those lines, you would actually save yourself at least 5 to 6 pages of reading.

Anyways, Brenna was a very confused and scared girl because of what happen to her but yet she would not allow anyone to dominate her. Judd who supposedly has no feelings or emotions actually were pretty protective. He was not really void of all emotions.

Nalini Singh gave us a new world full of adventure and romance that doesn't make your eyes roll. I can not wait to read more of her upcoming releases even though I don't feel that much excitement after reading the excerpt of Mine to Possess. However while reading Caress by Ice, I can feel that something is brewing between Sienna and Hawke. I hope my gut feeling is right and if so I hope we won't have to wait for it for long.

She does it again! I got turned on to this series when I stumbled upon Slave to Sensation (The Psy-Changelings, Book 1)and have been hooked ever since. Other reviewers have already talked about the plot, but the bottom line is this; Singh writes a compelling story that grips you from page one. You immediately care for her characters, the plot moves at just the right pace, and through all this she manages to weave in old and new characters without leaving you feeling cheated. It is like there is not one wasted page in ANY of her books. You never read a scene and think 'Yeah, yeah... and I care why?' In a word, this book can be defined as satisfying.

Am I gushing? I can't help it! Read this book, get the whole series. If you like the paranormal or 'animal' series by Christine Feehan, J.R. Ward, Lora Leigh, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Shiloh Walker or Alyssa Day, you will love this woman. My only complaint is that the book is done now and I have to wait until February for the next one. Write faster Nalini Singh. We want more!

It had been a bit of a while since I read the previous book in this series, so the first few chapters were confusing to me. After a few chapters, I started to remember characters and situations and even that the heroine of the story was one that was rescued from the previous novel.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. It is first and formost a romance, since the plot revolves around the two main characters lusting after each other. The subplot pertains to someone wanting to sabatoge the changelings by turning them against each other. This part of the story is what I thought was lacking. I thought it could have been done better and more believable. After all, the Psy community is supposed to be this ultra intelligent group, yet the plot they come up with was so obviously elementary sounding.

I have read the psy/changeling series upto kiss of snow, and out the entire series, this is my favorite. This book allows the reader to see more into the packs and even see how the martial psy mind works.

What you have: a very dominant guy, who happens to be Psy mixed with the victim mentioned in the first 2 books. This book is so good that readers naturally want to see more of this pair, and they make appearances through the rest of the series. (they even appear in deleted scenes on the author's webpage)

Anyway, this story talks about how the hero learns to live with emotion (and get the girl!) and the heroine learns to find herself/heals/trust again. She just happens to find it in a guy that everyone else just can't believe...

Read it if you like Nalini Singh's stuff...this one is the best of the bunch!

Oh. My. Goodness. This is an excellent romance with the archetype of a cool dangerous hero. The heroine is no slouch either and together they bridge the cultural gap between the Psy and the Changelings.

This entire series is amazing but this book stands out as one of the best love stories in terms of character development and great couple time blended with Singh's always superior world building. I have reread this one several times because of the deliciousness of the interactions between hero and heroine and to visit old friends.

I highly recommend this book and the series.

The third in the series, this book features the SnowDancer clan. The first two books have mainly dealt with the DarkRiver clan. I was a little skeptical at first about how I was going to like this book. Brenna, who was kidnapped and mind raped in the first book, is our main heroine. She pursued Judd, who is Psy, beginning early in the book. This aspect of the female character did not sit well with me, and I kept telling her, "Stop chasing him", but eventually I got over it, and the book turned out to be very good. I particularly liked the way she drew out Judd, who being a Psy, lives in Silence and expresses little to no emotion. It didn't take me long to really enjoy his character. If you like this series, then I think you will like this book.

I really liked this book. I think it's interesting the characters she chooses to focus on as the series expands. And also how each book builds on the one before it. I was intrigued by Judd and really enjoyed his story. This book was less technical about the Psy world as the other 2 were, and I appreciated that. I liked how Judd evolved by the end of the book but didn't completely change. I think that consistency helps the series and with further character development. The romantic scenes were extremely hot but they didn't fall into the typically sex encounters that it could have. I felt it was really tailored to these 2 characters. I look forward to reading more.

The return of two characters introduced in an earlier book. How do two injured souls overcome their injuries? Wonderful series (I have read them several times and have the hard copy). Similar to Day and Ward. Highly recommended

This is my favorite book in the series. I loved Brenna and Judd. Brenna's strength was great. She has been tortured mentally and physically, but she is trying to put herself back together again and reclaim her independence. Judd, an ice cold Psy, seems to be the only one who understands what she needs. Judd is awesome, so cool and controlled. His Silence hides a deep reservoir of emotion that Brenna brings out and helps him deal with. This is a great couple and a wonderful addition to the series.

This is the third installment of the PsyChangling series. Judd, who is mentioned in books one and two is the main focus in this story. After he helped save Brenna in book two, this shows the aftermath and growing relationship between Judd and Brenna. Although this one was not my favorite, it still has all the elements of the first two books which keeps you reading. I love the world Nalini has created within these books. She keeps pulling you in with the excitement and sensuality of the changlings and the cold hearted Psy.

I was also one of those chosen to review/discuss Caressed By Ice after reading an ARC of it. I've read it several times and I think this is, so far, my favorite. The hero, Judd Lauren, is the main reason I love this book, but there are many more. I wondered if a Psy hero would be able to pull me into this alternate world as easily as, say, Lucas and Vaughn did in "Slave To Sensation" and "Visions Of Heat". After all, the Psy are cold and emotionless and Judd more so than most. His unique Psy abilities marked him first as an Arrow, a member of the elite Psy soldiers who were known to the Psy as "death squads," and later as the pet assassin for the Council. So, I asked myself, how does Nalini Singh redeem a hero who, at fist glance, seems to have no redeeming qualities? I should have had more faith because she did it beautifully and skillfully, that's how.

Judd was introduced in "Slave To Sensation" when he and his family defected and sought refuge with the SnowDancer wolves. While the Lauren family have been accepted by the changelings, Judd refuses to be a part of the pack. He is distant, cold, and aloof - and barely tolerated by the wolves. He is truly made of ice with everyone - except Brenna. Brenna is as determined that Judd will break Silence as he is not to. At times, this determination seemed a little selfish and her relentless pursuit of Judd was, at first, annoying. But I did end up liking and admiring Brenna for her courage. Brenna had to accept, as Hawke says, Judd's "beast" as she has accepted her own. She was then able to really appreciate just what she was demanding that Judd do and how dangerous it was. Judd has very good reasons for repressing the dangerous emotions Brenna embraces, and it was not as easy for him to break Silence as it was for Sascha and Faith.

Despite the challenges, each encounter brings Judd and Brenna closer until all that is left is the undeniable fact that these two people belong together - despite their pasts and whatever obstacles are thrown in their path. The old saying about good things and waiting were never more true than with Judd Lauren because a "thawed out" Ice Man is well worth waiting for. Brenna's courage, passion and warmth (not to mention a few quirky endearments) soon has Judd scrambling to repair his crumbling conditioning.

Judd's reaction to those endearments was both funny and touching. Funny because he usually had no idea how, or if, he should respond; and touching because it was never so apparent as then that he had lived in an emotional void with absolutely no kindness, compassion, or affection. I loved the "Mr. Spock" moments sparked by his no-nonsense, very logical and literal take on different situations, and his genuine puzzlement as to why the repairs to his conditioning keep failing - with new chinks appearing almost as fast as he fixes them.

The Council - all of the alliances and plotting and scheming (especially those featuring Kaleb) creates some interesting challenges for the wolves as well as the leopards. While I love the Council snippets, I confess I had to re-read those portions just to keep up with all the maneuvering and dealing and double dealing. It was, at times, hard to keep track of who was in league with whom.

The secondary story dealing with the Psy rebellion and the mysterious Ghost in the Net is one of the other reasons I loved this book. It's a terrific addition to this series, and I can`t wait to find out who the Ghost is. Some fascinating information on Kaleb, Hawke and Walker is revealed but really raises more questions than it gives answers.

Judd and Brenna's story was not easy to read at times (like Judd's Silence conditioning) because they both have a dark and very painful past, but Caressed By Ice is a terrific book with a great cast of characters, a fast-moving plot with lots of twists and turns as well as some tantalizing surprises. I love the Psy Changeling series, and absolutely fell in love with Judd. I would recommend "Caressed By Ice" as well as the other two in this series ("Slave To Sensation" and "Visions Of Heat")to anyone who is looking for something different in the paranormal genre.

Of the four books so far, this one is my favorite, and the reason for that lies in the distinctive character of this book's hero: given Judd's Bourne-like back story as an ice-cold, highly trained assassin with a inviolable code of ethics, watching passion incrementally thaw him out made for an especially satisfying story line. And, of course, he is scorching HOT -- I fervently hope to see more male Psy heroes in later installments!

The development of the background story arc has been another interesting component of this series, with vivid hints of future plot developments and potential further romances embedded in the consecutive stories. The next book (#5) covers Dorian and the Psy scientist responsible for the next level of the Silence program -- fine. But the one I'm really looking forward to is the book that will finally cover Hawke (the charismatic alpha of the wolf pack), since there have been tantalizing indications of where that particular story's going...

I hate reading reviews that give away the story so what I can tell you is that Nalini Singh write the most amazing Alpha Males. I think it takes real talent to write an Alpha Male that isn't cruel or unkind. Even Judd, who isn't suppose to have any feelings, comes off as protective, loyal and very very sensual. I have read the entire Psy series and I fell in love with each Hero for completely different reasons. And if her unique heroes aren't reason enough to love her Psy novels than the creative and detailed job she does of world building should be. The mythos she is creating with each book is fasicnating and it really draws me in. I can't wait for each new book to learn more about this world. I was so excited to learn she has signed a contract for total of 7 Psy books. I can't wait!!! Caressed by Ice and the rest of the Psy novels are a fabulous escape from realty and I highly recommmed them to everyone.

I love this entire series and this one in particular. It has a great mix of romance (including steamy sex scenes) and action, just as all the books in the series do. My only complaint about Nalini Singh is that she has the weirdest chapter breaks. Rather than stopping the chapter at the end of a scene, she does it right in the middle, for no reason I can discern. I listened to this on audio and the abrupt chapter change kind of takes you out of the flow of action. It's not that critical, but is a bit annoying.

I've been putting off reading this book since i'm not reading the books chronologically but by character interest. However,i finally got an inkling of interest in Judd and Brenna's story after reading Heart of Obsidian. So I gave it a shot and loved it. This book was not what I expected, Brenna was a lot stronger than I expected her to be which was a plus and the fact that Judd is only like that with her was really sweet.

I love this book so much. Judd and Brenna was so sweet and scorching together. He was a great tortured hero and I felt for him so much. I love watching how his walls were shattered to allow Brenna inside. Benna was also a courageous lady, working to overcome the horror of being taken and tortured. she an Judd connected on a level that felt real and wonderful. I love the plot and the chemistry was wonderful. I am behind on the series and I am so looking forward to catch up. I highly recommend

Judd Lauren was a Psy-net Arrow who knew that he was expendable as were all assassins. When he dropped out to insure the safety of his offspring, he expected ironically to be assassinated. Instead the SnowDancer wolf pack welcomed his children and tepidly allowed him to stay with them.

When pack member Brenna Kincaid is kidnapped, Judd helps rescue her. Back in the safe environs of the pack, Brenna needs to choose a mate, but her selection is Judd, who feels unworthy of her due to his Psy-net past. When a member is brutally tortured before being killed, Judd recognizes the work as a Psy-net operative sending a message that the pack will die one at a time; however, he also assumes a traitor from within had to abet this unknown predator.

CARESSED BY ICE is a terrific Psy-Changeling romantic investigative fantasy that will temporarily satiate fans of Nalini Singh who will still demand the next tale and send newcomers searching for the back list (see VISIONS OF HEAT). Judd is a fabulous hero who feels unworthy of Brenna and of the mission he must undergo. Readers will enjoy this fine entry in a wonderful saga due to his efforts and that of Brenna to convince him he is the one for her.

I thought this was the best of the Singhi series on psy-changelings, based on the first five books. There is a decent plot and a mystery to figure out. In addition, the male lead has restrictions on being touched so the author can't resort to her usual stories of the hero and heroine having multiple sexual encounters. I think this forced her to focus more on storyline. It improved the book.

Brenna is a wolf-human living in the Snow Dance community who has been kidnapped and devastatingly tortured. After she's rescued by Judd, a Psy with telepathic and telekinetic abilities (and more), she thinks she might survive her haunting, horrific ordeal by Santano Enrique whom Judd killed. But another member of the Snow Dance community is murdered, and Brenna starts to experience something "evil," something that perhaps has been planted into her brain.

Little does she realize the plot that is unfolding that, if successful, will reprogram all of life to the point of its destruction. The clues lie in the NetMind, a cyberspace program controlled by the Psys but with unexplainable gaps holding the secrets of all defectors, including a serial killer. But who is behind the killing and why?

Judd and the Ghost have defected from the Psys, but the conditioning of the Psys, the Silence, is enmeshed deeper into his brain then he realizes. Black keys have been built into the unconscious, the inner layer, and the removal of these will allow him to fully experience what he senses are powerful emotions for Brenna, for all of living indeed. But the inner core of Brenna and almost all in her community is safe. The enemy's power is controlling the nerve responses and thinking of its prey. Pleasure, response is the normal order, but how is one to live when that usual function is reversed.

Nalini Singh is a unique writer in the way she presents the mystery within this story, gradually creating and increasing the tension and puzzle behind the surface action. Minute clues are tantalizingly dropped at pivotal spots throughout the novel, paralleling the developing romance between two very different characters, Brenna and Judd.

Caressed by Ice is a fascinating, intriguing paranormal, science fiction story that will enthrall those who love otherworldly plots lived by passionate, fully engaged characters like Brenna and Judd! Nicely done, Ms. Singh!

There is nothing quite as intriguing as exceptional people who break away from everything they've ever known in order to be free. Enigmatic Judd Lauren is the first member of the Lauren family to be romantically featured in Singh's series, and I believe that CBI is the most powerful book in the series to date. Judd's self-discovery, on both physical and emotional levels, is compelling, and his self-sacrificing tenderness towards Brenna melts our hearts (though he has an icy exterior). Bravo, Ms. Singh!

I thought Visions of Heat was my favorite until I read this one. I have read the first 5 books so far, and this one is my favorite. Judd's cold, assassin exterior was really sexy and watching him melt for Brenna was great. Brenna was a well written character; she was strong and I really rooted for her to get better. Very well written story.

Nalini Singh has created a intricate world divided up between the changelings, the psychics and the humans. This third edition is the story of Judd, an ex assisin for the psy council and Brenna, a changeling who is recovering from a psy attack.
Psy are taught to be controlled and emotionless from childhood, and Caressed by Ice details their road to regaining their sense of self and trust in another. Highly recommend reading the first two books first, so you don't get lost in all the sub plots.

With this book, Nalini has been added to my auto buy list. The good: characterization (of heroine at least) is very good. Excellent narrative, esp. when describing the psynet and such. Dialogue is usually crisp and smooth.

The bad: Backstory/worldbuilding is NOT convincing. Bag Guy(s) are cardboard characters. Plot is forced.

The Ugly: Katana is NOT a martial art. It's one of several types of Japanese sword. (for example: Shoutou,Wakizashi,Tachi,Iaito,Ninjato) The martial art would be Kendo --the Way of the Sword (roughly) or Kenjutsu for the study/practice of the original killing art.

Hyenas are NOT cowardly scavengers. The Spotted Hyena is in fact one of the deadliest predators on planet earth and all but the Ardwolf are effecient opportunistic feeders. (the Ardwolf is specilized for eating termites) Hyenas (excepting the Ardwolf) have among the most powerful jaws of any predator are highly intelligent and social and have been known to drive lions off of a kill. They can eat and digest all parts of a kill including the bones, skin and hoves. The cowardly scavenger idea is a leftover of nineteenth century prejudice and misunderstanding. Frankly a pack of wolves would have trouble taking down a single Hyena and they'd certainly loose many of the pack.

Wolves don't kill with their claws. A wolf is a runner and their claws, being non retractable, are blunt. Cats use both fang and claw. (Cheetahs, as runners, being an exception)

The failures with plot are simple laziness as the author otherwise seems an able storyteller and the factual errors could have been fixed with ten minutes on Metacrawler or other metaserach engine.

Plot holes are bad enough but when a series is based at least in part on animal habits and characteristics the author should spend at least a minute or two doing research. I could spend all day pointing out mistakes (impossible eco friendly technology, complete ignorance about what a laser actually is, etc) but frankly the abysmal ignorance about Wolves, leopards, hyenas, etc when half of the characters in the story are supposed to be 'Changelings' is revolting. A lot of promise thrown away. Avoid this series until the author gets her act together.
