Probably a great many people will disagree with me when I say that prior to this book my favorite in the Bridgerton series was Viscount Who Loved Me. I don't think a great many will disagree with me when I say that Romancing Mr. Bridgerton has replaced Viscount as my favorite Julia Quinn novel and therfore my favorite romance novel, period. The dialouge between Penelope and Colin was even more snicker inducing than Viscount and this book had the added advantage of a slight mystery (Lady Whistledown's identity) to keep the reader entralled. Colin, always my favorite Bridgerton brother, is finally characterized as something other than the easy going, charming third brother that he is pictured as in the other books and Penelope grows from a tongue-tied wallflower to a woman with enough spine to suit anyone. The characters in this book are believable, likable and at times downright laughable. As for the identity of Lady W, never fear. All is revealed, but to mention her name in this review would deprive readers of the pleasure of finding out for themselves. A note to those who haven't read any of the other Bridgerton novels I would suggest you do so prior to reading this one. Not because it is vital to understand the story but because it will help you to understand the dynamic of the Bridgerton family and bsides, each of them is an excellent book well worth reading.

I've been waiting, ever so patiently for this novel, and I was not disapointed!
I loved the turn of emotions in Colin as he began to see Penelope in a romantic light after having befriended her for years. Their emotional adventures together was wonderful!
It was very refreshing to finally met a heroine that was not the picture of absolute beauty. Let's be honest, most of us woman are not what society depicts as "perfect" as many of the heroines in romance novels seem to be. I loved watching her finally see her dreams come true and the man that she's cared for for so many years finally return her love, and to hell with looking perfect! It was great.
Thanks Julia for another wonderful adventure!!

Ahh, haven't we all wished for the ability to write witty, yet cutting prose about those we know, love and laugh at the best???
Lady Whistledown, who is simply all those things, is so brilliantly exposed during the trials and tribulations of this love affair between Colin and Penelope. For those of you who are avid Quinn fans from the beginning, you'll love this story for it ties up the mystery of the infamous Lady Whistledown. AND for those of you who haven't read a Quinn book yet, feel fancy free to pick this book up and start here. You'll be able to go back and read the previous books with a giggle in your heart that you know something the rest of the players don't.
Either way you choose to read it, it's a delightful, funny, entertaining, emotional read and comes highly recommended.

This was a fun, light historical romance. No mystery & suspense like I've been reading lately, but I like a change of pace every once in a while. If you've liked Julia Quinn's other historicals, you'll probably like this one also. It's not as good as 'How To Marry A Marquis', but I still enjoyed it. It's cute & comical & didn't do that "she hates him, he hates her, til they fall in love" thing that so many historicals do. That's a relief to me. I can't believe JQ actually reveiled Lady Whistledown in this one!
I think everyone needs a friendship like Penelope & Eloise; I have one & it lifts me up & puts me back on track when I think nothing can. Happy Reading!

As you may have figured out, in this installment of the Bridgerton series, we finally find out who is Lady Whistledown. Although I would love to blurt it out, I will let you read the book yourself <smile>. In the past 3 Bridgerton Books, you catch glimpses of Poor Penelope and all you can do is hope that someday she will get her man Colin Bridgerton. Well finally she has her own book and indeed she gets her man. The only complaint that I could have with this book as that They barely spend much time together before Colin is falling in love. I wish Quinn played the romancing part out a bit more. But it still was a great novel that I could not put down and in fact read in 1 and 1/2 days. I really can't wait to read Eloise's story and I wonder where she disapeared to?

Colin Bridgerton...Ah! As far as this Bridgerton is concerned, I'm as bad as Penelope Featherington. He's just too gorgeous. He's my favourite along with his mother and Hyacinth. These three epitomize Brigerton-ness. Colin's is my favourite kind of love story. The ugly-duckling to swan, and the friends to lovers motifs are used to their best advantage here. Secrets are revealed and aren't they just delicious!

Must-read for all the reasons you can think of. This is romance at it's best. Loved it!

This is definitely my favorite Julia Quinn book so far.
I like that Penelope is a rather shy (and plump) wallflower. She is a spinster after only God knows how many seasons, and pines for a dashing sort of guy (Colin). Unfortunately, she isn't the type Colin would be attracted to (even her best friend believes so).
But Colin seems to "grow up," and is soon bewildered at his gradual view of Penelope in a romantic light; he also gets an urge to kick himself because he didn't notice she was a great girl sooner.
It's also great that they actually talk about things as friends. Realistically, I don't believe people can become lovers without being friends first.

Because this is the book I waited so long, I wondering through reviewers to which side I will be...'like it' or 'Not like it'...

For me, this book is ..well what to say... A romance reality, but for me seems not really spectacular.

However by this book, I will miss all the adorable Heroes : Simon (Duke of Hastings), Anthony, Benedict and Colin Bridgerton. Oh such a wonderful family!

Colin " the Mr. Perfect " still not so perfect as it seems, but this book is somekind like reality in life.

The only surprising for me is the revealed of Lady Whistledown...who I never guess before.

The story of Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton is a delightful one. I liked the fact that Penelope is different from most heroines and Colin is a wonderful hero. The lack of love scenes was not even noticed by me until I read some of the reviews here. Colin and Penelope's relationship develops through actions and dialogue in such a way that the reader can understand why these two are made for each other. I'll take Quinn's masterful dialogue over thrown in love scenes any day. In a lot of romances, authors make the mistake of replacing deep and meaningful conversation with love scenes to explain why the hero and heroine are in love. This story is funny and enjoyable and the reader is not left wondering whether or not the two main characters are in love or lust. It is obvious Penelope and Colin are head over heels in love!

Julia Quinn has taken a typical romance plotline (ugly-duckling gets man of her dreams) and makes it the most endearing, complex and REAL story possible. Penelope is a wonderful heroine - she is strong, smart and stands up for what she believes in, despite her general rejection by society. And Colin, who by his own admission lives a charmed life, is still complicated, lovable and realizes that even he had some lessons to learn in the end.
It's a great book, and one that re-defines the regency romance with it's quick, witty dialoge that will make you laugh in more than one spot. All of the Bridgerton books are wonderful, but this is the crowining jewel. Enjoy!

There is so much to love about this novel. I already knew Penelope from the previous books but she was so much better than I expected. She was the shy and quiet debutante and is now evolving into a dynamic woman.

Colin is also more than meets the eye. I loved how Penelope helped Colin to want and achieve more for himself.

Theirs is a feel-good romance, you can't help but smile and cheer as the relationship progresses. It's also wonderful to finally have the Lady Whistledown mystery solved.

I think Mrs. Quinn has the ability to be a great writer but she seems to be just a mediocre one. Her books have great potential but they seem to fall flat a little. This book was just ok. I found Penelope endearing. I love how she loved Colin and when she spent more time with him she realized he had faults instead of the image she had in her head. And Colin is a sweet sweet hero. He took Penelope at first glance instead of finding the woman inside and when he finally saw that he truly blossomed as a hero in my eyes. There's was a sweet love story and I did enjoy the book but it was not a (I can't put it down, up until 2 am book).

I Read this excellent book in a total of 2 days and only because I had to read the Duke and I first. Colin the infamous playboy finally falls hard for Penelope Featherington the lonely spinster. As always their is lots of humor and wit and it always is great lead-in for the one in the series. Her books are getting more detailed and also every one book has a continuance of a more detailed problem to get thru. And as for the final build-up the great Ms. Whistledown is revealed. You will have to read the book to find out who the secret person is. I'm anxious for the final 3 in the series and can't wait. I highly recommend this series.

This is one of Julia Quinn's better books. The characters are fully developed, relatable, and likeable. Their romance was believable and realistic. Unlike so many romance novels, this is not a "love at first sight" type of romance. The attachment between the two main characters grew over years, as so many relationships do. The storyline was interesting and it was easy to get into this book.

I rushed out to buy this book the day it was released, because Julia Quinn's are usually the most reliably well-written romances. However, I found this one to be someone draggy - the first fifty pages will bore anyone already familiar with the Bridgerton family - and lacking in a "momentum event" (ie, stangers meet, a death occurs, etc). Penelope, with her long-unrequited love for the selfish dilettante Colin, and her submission to her abusive mother, comes across as a doormat/drip. I look forward to the next book in the series, which will feature the (much more dynamic) heroine, Eloise Bridgerton.

I have been a fan of Julia Quinn ever since I read THE DUKE AND I, the first in the Bridgerton Family series. Her writing focuses not on complex plots or twisted situations, but on the hopes, dreams, and heartbreaks of her characters, people you grow to know and love.
Romancing Mr. Bridgerton is the story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, both of whom appear in all the previous books. Penelope has loved Colin for years, but her self-confidence is virtually nil, and her family, as well as the rest of society, long ago gave up on her ever getting married. Colin is a man without a plan; he desperately wants a purpose in life instead of being known as just another charming Bridgerton. Each of them goes on a journey of personal change as they seek to improve themselves and find true love. Their story is touching and funny and left me feeling extremely glad that they finally found each other.
If you have followed this series and have wondered who Lady Whistledown is, you will find out in this book. I won't disappoint you by giving the answer away, but I will tell you that there is a good chance your suspicions are correct. Julia Quinn's writing is side-splitting and tear-jerking, and you can't miss with her latest book.

There is something very personable about Penelope and Colin. That Colin doesn't know what to do with his life isn't a usual dilemma the hero faces, but I understand that about him so well! That contrast in Penelope, at once self-doubtful about herself because she's a spinster and also so strong and certain as a friend/writer/sister is soo endearing and admirable. This is all made possible because Quinn is a hilarious writer and develops her characters well. It's a lovely story about a friendship that develops into a love. And that scene on the balcony in the end has to be the most cleverly written, wonderfully romantic, hilariously dramatic scenes of all time! :)

The Bridgerton series gets better with each installment. We had gotten to know Penelope Featherton in the previous books, but this story allowed us to get to know her even better. Now resigned to her fate as a spinster alongside Eloise Bridgerton, Peneolpe gets caught up with the rest of the ton and their search for the real identity of Ms. Whistledown. As with the other books we get to know the Bridgerton family members even better. Plus we get to check back in with Anthony, Benedict, Daphne, and their own ever growing families.
The only negative aspect to this book is the fact that I will have to wait another 6 months for the next book in the series. Get this book, and all the others if you haven't already!

For three "Bridgerton" books we have read about Penelope Featherington's wallflower ways and poor choice of gown colour through a thrice weekly gossip column. Finally, Julia Quinn has created a book about Penelope and shifts our view to the world of the Bridgerton's and of the antics of the ever charming third Bridgerton brother, Colin.
Julia Quinn has created yet another satisfying book that will again enchant her readers as well as help resolve that little bit of mystery that has left her loyal readers pondering in frustration......who is Lady Whistledown???

I buy her books sight unseen. This may not be the BEST Bridgerton story but it is still Great. I laughed on the first page and did not stop. Penelope and Colin's story is great. They both have known each other for ages and Penelope has loved him since she was 16. Now she is 28 and he is 33 and things just come together and they see each other how they really are. This was a fun story and the characters were great. You get to see all kinds of old friend and family and see how they have been changing and growing. You do not want to miss this one. And oh you get to find out who Whistledown is. I won't tell you who since that is half the fun of reading the story!

I've read the series in order, and recently went back and re-read them. I began this book with an anticipation of a great story, it was a huge let-down. I don't remember why I kept this book, maybe to keep the series intact, who knows? But I know I don't like Penelope or Colin in this book at all. Colin seemed whiny and had an insane need to have Penelope's approval in EVERYTHING! And Penelope, okay yeah I get she's a spinster, firmly on the shelf, got it, even though it was POUNDED in our heads pretty much every chapter up until the proposal. I didn't get how she was Lady Whisteldown, it seemed a bit far-fetched and the explanation was neatly tied up with a bow. It didn't make sense. I guess it was to throw interest on Penelope, because otherwise she would be a pretty boring character without that tidbit of info on her. I didn't like how Penelope kept defending her actions as Lady Whisteldown, saying she didn't want Cressida Twombley to be Mrs. Whistledown, but at the same time didn't want to take claim herself. I didn't like how the Bridgertons had to do it for her, as if she's a helpless little ole female who can't take care of herself. She made the mess, she should have been the one to clean it up. It all seemed like she shouldn't have been a 28 year old Spinster, rather she should have been a scared little 16 year old girl. I didn't like the main characters in their book but I loved Lady Danbury and most of the secondary characters in this book.

I am a great fan of Ms. Quinn, and I loved all of Bridgerton series so far. That is why I couldn't wait to read this book. But, what a disappointment!! There was no strong development in detail how and why Colin fall in love with Penelope. Colin's character (which seemed to be witty, care free in previous series), was not described and developed well (all it mentioned was how he was hungry for food all the time, also literally written he was 'witty' and had a great smile). Only pleasurable plot of the story was when Colin announced Penelope's secret to everyone. Oh, well.. I guess I'll have to wait for Elois's story.

This novel explores the lives of Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton. They have become friends over time and Penolope has always loved him but something is different now. So great twist and turns and all the old characters are back. Off to read the next of the series. The Bridgerton series: #1: The Duke and I, #2: The Viscount Who Loved Me, #3: An Offer from a Gentleman, #4: Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, #5: To Sir Phillip, With Love,#6: When He Was Wicked ,#7: It's In His Kiss, #8: On the Way to the Wedding.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were excellent and very captivating. I actually read this book in one day as I didn't want to put it down. I also just love this series. If you start at the beginning, you get acquainted with all the characters and then understand better as a particular character or characters gets their own story. Excellent historical romance.

What a great book!!! I've been waiting with great anticipation for this book to be released ever since I read the teaser in "An Offer from A Gentleman." Colin has always been my favorite Bridgerton because of his great wit and ease. I was very pleased to see how JQ had given Colin's character more depth without ruining his charm. It was very nice to see a hero who wasn't brooding over a very serious problem from his past but had personal issues that dealt with insecurities and simple confusions.
Penelope Featherington was a perfect compliment to Colin. She's witty and although burdened by her own insecurities of being a wall-flower her entire life, she proves to be a strong (yet caring) woman in the sometimes very cruel ton.
JQ manages to reinvent these well-known characters from the Bridgerton series without ruining their endearing personalities. I loved how she brought back past characters from her other books. It was a great surprise to read about Lucas and Jane Hotchkiss and to find out that they're both old enough to be in the marriage mart. Also the supporting characters were a great compliment to the story. I couldn't help but smile to see another side of the usually cruel and very feared Lady Danbury.
Overall, this was just a splendid book with lots of laughter and tears as the relationship between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington gradually grows from friendship to love.

This is the second book I've read in the "Bridgerton Series" and although I did not find it as wonderful as "The Duke and I", I had so much fun reading this novel! It was so marvelous to explore and join with two endearing characters such as Penelope and Colin. Although the two of them getting together was a long time in coming, they certainly took us on a journey! The rapport that these two share lets us see their intelligence and sense of humor, while the attraction between them lets us see their beauty and sensuality. And in the surface, both Colin and Penelope seem to be all right with the world, but we find the secrets that they have kept show us who they really long to be. Julia Quinn did a wonderful way in making her characters come to life and leap out at you from the pages. I found Mrs. Featherington to be very superficial, but she certainly provided some comic relief. And Eloise gives out the impresssion of being tough, but still vulnerable. I truly enjoyed reading this book. Lady Whistledown's true identity was, despite my suspicion, truly a shock, but a delightful one. All in all, this is a story that will truly be enjoyed. I can't wait to see who manages to capture Eloise's heart!

I consider myself an avid romance reader. I would forget chores and homework to read a book. Now, I have read plenty books that could be considered Ok, bad, and a "you could not put this book down if your life depended upon it." This book was definately in the latter category. I felt such a bond with Penelope. How many of us out there aren't beautiful, aren't popular, but have a wonderful sense of humor, and an intelligent mind? I would definately call myself a wallflower(you'll have to read the book to understand). Colin is the typical boy next door that grows up while away, and comes home only to realize that his life could not be complete without the girl next door. He's charming, funny, and just about perfect. He's not these other men, who constantly contradict what he's feeling. He knows what he's feeling and will admit it scares, delights, or absolutely frightens him. I don't think anyone could have been a more perfect match for him than Penelope, or Colin for her. Lady Whistledown, of course, adds delightful wit and humor to the Bridgerton books, and I love who she turns out to be in the end. I could not have picked a better person. Reading the other Bridgerton books you think you have an idea who it might be, but no no no. I read this book in 2 1/2 hours. I literally could not put it down. Thank you Julia Quinn. I can't wait to see what has happened to Eleanor.

It had been a while since I really read any books. I mostly wrote, so reading took a back seat. Then, one day at college I felt a little board and so I leafed through a box of romance books that I my parents had given to me to take with me. Not that I remembered taking them with me and somehow there they were. But I digress. So I picked up this book, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton and read what it was about. Then I sat back in my bed and started to read it. And immediately I fell in love, one with Penelope (cause she reminded me of myself) then I fell head over heels for Colin. As the day grew to an end I realized I finished the book. It is an amazing book in that it totally flips around the normal male female characters.

Although Colin appears as the heroic in the beginning, we find him to be ridden with insecurities and such. Also, in all of the books that Julia writes that have her pre-marriage, she is described as a "wallflower" to be precise. But once Julia gets into both characters we see their other sides. Penelope, we find, is extemely complex for a wallflower. What with having her own momentous secret and her vast intelligence (gasp a woman in 1800 with a brain). And then Colin, although smooth, suave, and oh so sexy on the outside, is just as complex inside with his own secret.

Regardless, it truly is a magnificent book if you have a vivid imagination and enjoy movies and books about jolly ol' England. And Julia is an amazing and talented writer that she can bring to life the sights and sounds and characters in her books into your imagination.

Penelope Featherington has been in love with Colin Bridgerton for ever, but he only see her as his sister's spinter friend. When Colin comes back from his lastest travels, he give Penelope a second look and he is surprised at what he see.
"Romancing Mister Bridgerton" is the fourth book in the "Bridgerton" series by Julia Quinn and the best so far. The storyline was just great and it was nice to a hero who looked beyond what is on the outside.

I LOVE Julia Quinn, and I think she's a talented, funny writer. Having said that, I don't think I should FORCE myself to finish this book. If I didn't know the quality writing Julia is capable of, maybe I would like this... not sure.
The beginning reminded me of all those Sweet Valley High books I read as a (very!) young girls (and if you read them too, you know just what I'm talking about) where the 2 main characters (twins Elizabeth and Jessica) were described in the same way, and the first chapter was the same in all 100+ books. Ms. Quinn actually includes a LOT from the prior her earlier books- it feels more like filler than background or perspective. And I have NO idea why Colin is falling in love with Penelope. It just doesn't work. But I love Julia, and I'll be back for the next book! I guess that means I should finish this one (groan- homework!)

This was a refreshing turn on most romances. Penelope, a chubby shy wallflower, falls madly in love with dashing hunk Colin. He treats her like a kid sister, unknowingly hurting her repeatedly through his words and actions.
Then 12 years later, both older and wiser, love finally strikes Colin and he can't figure out why.
I especially liked the emphasis placed on their friendship. After all, if you aren't friends first, how can you be lovers?
Very entertaining and comical in places.

A very different kind of love story, and yes... this was a love story and one of the better of the series! Penelope had loved Colin for years, and the evolution of his feelings for her was entertaining to read. There was plenty of other Bridgerton's for all the characters to play against, which is one of Quinn's strengths. I particularly enjoyed the scene in which Colin was attempting ask Mrs. Featherington for Penelope's hand.... very funny. I did not, however, enjoy the scene in which Mrs. Whistledown was revealed. It was way overdone and ridiculous to make a grand announcement. I think Quinn could have come up with something better if it was necessary to unmask her at all.

The story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. This was undoubtedly one of the oddest, but sweetest, romances I have read in some time. The heroine is not particularly engaging. Infact, she's terribly ordinary. At least that's what you see at first. And that's what Colin has been seeing for 11 years. Their love does not bloom spontaneously- no lightening bolts. It simply starts as a smile and slowly builds into what we all know as undying love. *sigh* Applause for Julia Quinn! She took the formulaic romance and turned it on its ear, appealing to the wallflower in all of us.

This book is just great! I think Julia Quinn is a fantastic author and this was her best book yet. It is a touching story of two old friends who fall in love. There aren't a lot of stories like this one out there, and that's a shame. I love the way the author creates deep and meaningful scenes between the hero and heroine without always resorting to sex scene after sex scene like many books i read and which gets boaring fast. This book is my favorite of the series and is different than many romance novels because instead of the characters letting their problems drive them apart they support each other and work together to solve their problems. I am so sick of romance novels in which the hero and heroine have a highly troubled relationship for the whole story and then magically arrive at some happy ending. I can't stress enough what a refreshing change this book was. If you are a fan of real romance, this is the book for you.

Finally, a book that was well worth the wait. The story of Colin and Penelope was been waiting in the wings with each subsequent Bridgerton novel. It seemed only fitting that Penelope should get this particular man. Way to go Penelope. Buy this book. Read the entire Bridgerton series. There are few authors whom have been able to keep up the high standards as they continue to write about the same family, each time featuring different members. Heck, the only author I can think of who has truly pulled this off before is Johanna Lindsey with the Malory clan. Well Julia Quinn you are in a class of your own with your amazing brand of humor and caring. Oh, and for finally revealing the true identity of Lady Whistledown. That is truly a moment to cherish. This is a book to cherish and put on an often reached for shelf with all the other Bridgertons so that you can read them over and over again.

I really wanted Penelope and Colin to get together, and I adore the Bridgerton family. I re-read parts in other books just because they make me laugh. While the Bridgerton family was in full force throughout this book, it seemed replayed. Colin's trauma just semed like a replay of Benedict's problems. The way the relationship with Penelope and Colin moved, was a little flat as well. I expected something like the other three books, origianl and witty. Instead, Colin randomly seems to decide he loves Penelope. Their conversations are interesting, but their romance is not. Plus, frankly, Lady Whistledown was a let down. I think Ms. Quinn could have made it more creative. I will definitely read more books by her, and pre-order the next Bridgerton book. But I was most definitely dissapointed

I have enjoyed all of the previous Bridgerton novels, when I heard that Colin was going to be paired with Penelope, I thought how odd. It works! The fourth installment in the Bridgerton series meets the high expectations set by the previous books. What seems to be a recurring topic in this genre again prevails - the girl is in love with prince charming who in turn is in love with the girl, but has not realized it yet.
Two things make this book(and the series) worth reading: the dialogue and the plot. Quinn succeeds in developing a banter between the main characters that is intelligent and funny. The other characters in the novel are also pretty well developed, setting the tone for the upcoming books in the series. She is wonderful at creating a story line, that although predictable, wraps the reader up from beginning to end.
I highly recommend this book to all romance fans, you will not be disappointed!

She is wonderful at creating a story line, that although predictable, wraps the reader up from beginning to end.
I highly recommend this book to all romance fans, you will not be disappointed!

My favorite Julai Quinn's book! i absolutely loved the two main characters! Penelope and Colin's love story was one of the best in all the historical books! if you like the cool popular guy that falls in love with the shy and plain jane girl, you will adore this book! I personnaly liked the final scene of the book! You cn see that those two really love each other and that Colin would do anything for Penelope!

Absolutely my favorite in the Bridgerton series. I always wanted Penelope to meet her match, and Colin is the perfect man for her. Their story is sweet, and the couple is easy to relate to and cheer for (who doesn't want wallflower to finally find love, and to the object of her secret affection to boot). In addition, the Lady Whistledown mystery is solved in a fun and compelling way. What more can you ask for?

This was another winner. Finally, Mrs. Whistledown is revealed in

this book. This book gets 5 stars alone on one scene where Colin &

Penelope embark on an afternoon delight. I believe a mirror is

mentioned. That was the hottest Julia Quinn love scene I have read to date. I honestly don't know what else to say, I think the other reviewers have said it all.

As always, Julia Quinn has created a wonderful story that only makes the reader love the Bridgerton family even more. The love story of Colin and Penelope really suck you in and made me not only laugh out loud, but shed a few tears, and all the emotions in between. I always find it difficult to put down any of her books and this one was no exception!!

Alas, Julia Quinn has finally done it. "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton" is the forth book in the Bridgerton brother series. It would, in my opinion, be the best so far. I have read the book about Anthony, which I found boring, but it kept me enough to want to find out what happens to Daphane. As it turns out, Daphane's book was more exciting than Anthony's story. And of course, after reading about Daphane, Quinn left a cliff hanger that I could not resist.

The story of plain Penelope and one of the most well-known bachelor, Colin Bridgerton.

This forth book was everything I had wanted to be. The dialogues between Colin and Penelope were great. It was witty and funny. It kept me on my toes of who the infamous Lady Whistletown is. It brings in the former characters in previous books and brings in new characters that I have come to laugh at (Lady D). This is a book with some sensuality in it. I suggest fans of the Bridgerton series read this book. It leaves me wanting to read more about Colin and Penelope. Good Job Ms. Quinn~!

Colin is a terrific hero. He leaps off the page in all of her other books about the Bridgertons, and Penelope is a very likeable heroine. I especially loved the first chapter when we discover how Colin "fell" for Penelope. As always, Quinn makes me laugh out loud. I did feel like Colin progressed from being totally unconcerned about Penelope, to considering her a friend, to madly in love with her all at lightning speed. That is my biggest complaint, but overall I enjoyed the book. The whole series is excellent. I also liked the Lady Whistledown drama as well.

I found this book quite good. The only problem is that I read it first, before I read any of the other Bridgerton books. If you haven't read them first, go back and do so, then read this installment. The novel stands along quite well by itself, but yes, the beloved Lady Whistledown is revealed. So while the other stories are great on their own, you lose that sense of "mystery" of who the brutally honest lady is.

The other Bridgerton books were awesome. Julia Quinn is my favorite romance author and head & shoulders above the usual garbage out there. I was SO disappointed by this book. Sorry, but listening to Colin whine about the fact that it's not fair that he doesn't have a purpose in life is just stupid. Wah, wah. He comes off as a big whiny bug. The discovery of who is Lady Whistledown is anti-climactic and then to listen to Colin whinge about the fact that Lady Whistledown is a published author and he isn't is, once again, just tiresome. The romance side of things is pretty bland. I guess if you want to read the entire series, you have to get through this one, but don't read this one first! I can highly recommend the rest of the books, however!

After reading "The Duke and I", I couldn't wait until I got to read Colin's story, because I loved his personality and thought he was the one "Bridgerton" brother, that most interested me. However, this story was just plain boring. There really wasn't much romance in the book - instead the whole thing was pretty much on the revealing of "Lady Wistledown".(Which I had been curious about anyway) I loved Colin, and was so looking forward to a good romantic story with him. This was still a cute book, but the previous 3 were by far way better.

If you have never read a Bridgerton nove than your in for a treat. This family is just plain ol' funny their great kinda what a family should be like.
If your looking for a book full of action than this book is not for you but if you like to laugh try to get your hands on a copy.
Colin and Penelope are great they don't really have problems like they come from diffrent countries and their love is forbiden but their just two people with every day problems.

I really liked this book, with all of Quinn's humorous writing style, witty dialogue and sparkling characters. The fact that both characters are judged by outward appearances and only when they begin to look inside the person do they begin to fall in love, makes for a really likeable romance. The Lady Whistledown plot does get wearisome, but that's only minor details. Don't let it ursurp the fact that the romance is realistic, beautiful and will endear you to both characters.

Believe it or not I'm not a Julia Quinn fan. I have read the books so far in the Bridgerton series including "How to Marry A Marquis", and this is the only one that I throughly enjoyed. I'm looking forward to reading Eloise story and I hope that she does one on Francisca. If you don't read any of her others - buy this one.

I REALLY liked this book. I have read every JQ book, and this one was just as delightful as all the previous. Colin and Penelope are an excellent pair! I won't give any details because I wouldn't want to give too much away, but despite what other reviews might say, this book is definitely a keeper. I have already read it twice!

I've read a few of Julia Quinn's books and they're pretty good. This one was OK. A decent read. I did skip parts trying to get to the sections where the hero/heroine would interact. The romance was just lukewarm. I did enjoy the ONE love scene though. There just seems to be something missing from certain books that would take it from being just good, to great. This book seemed to be more focused on the secondary story of unmasking Whistledown than to the budding relationship of Penelope and Colin.

To sum up, this book was a disappointment. I am a huge fan of Quinn, in particular the Bridgertons, and I have been counting the days till the release of "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton." Needless to say, this book did not live up to my expectations. It started off great but towards the middle the only thing that saved me from eternal boredom was Lady Danbury and her sharp wit. This book lacks the romance we have come to cherish in the rest of Quinn's novels.
The majority of the book deals with Colin and Penelope's insecurities rather than the love they supposedly find for one another. Colin reminds me of a whiny teenager, complaining because he has no purpose in life, rather than the witty character he portrays in the rest of the Bridgerton series. Their courtship played only a minor part in the book whereas unveiling Lady Whistledown and helping Mr. "Insecure" Colin were the main topics.
In addition, this book also lacks description, we are never really given the opportunity to understand Colin and Penelope's feelings. It's as if we are reading in the third person and observing tidbits from the outside. Overall, I would have to say that this book had great potential and didn't follow through. I hold out hope for Eloise though.

This is my first experience reading Julia Quinn's novels. I started with the first book in the Bridgerton series, The Duke and I, and I was hooked. I truly enjoyed the first three in this series and couldn't wait to read Colin's story. I loved Colin's character in the first three books. I was so looking forward to reading a novel that included Colin's happy-go-lucky & charming disposition, but instead we got someone completely different? His character was nothing like the first three books. He was bitter, jealous and angry? I was so disappointed. I thought it would be refreshing to have a hero that is charming and not so brooding. Penelope was weak and I really could care less about her character. The romance was not believable between these two characters.

Since I enjoyed the first 3 books, I will continue the series only b/c I don't think it could get any worse than Romancing Mister Bridgerton.

I have read quite a few of Ms. Quinn's novels, and this one is by far my favorite!!! The story flows very naturally, without elaborate twists, yet with interesting turns. You really see Colin and Penelope grow closer, and pull for them through the book. And the supporting characters are great. Highly recommend!!!

After reading about Colin and Penelope in the first 3 of the series I was quite sure that Colin would outshine Miss Penelope. I was very very wrong! Penelope is great, she's funny, she has courage, wit, and a lot of sass. Surprisingly she was just what colin needed, it just took him quite awhile to realize it.

As usual Julia Quinn brought out the best in the entire Bridgerton family making me look forward to the next in the series.

I was looking forward to this one. I had such high hopes, but it was a big let down. It was predictable, trite, and never really got me into their relationship. I loved Colin in the first two books, but after this book I can't say I'm in any hurry to read on in the series. What happened Ms. Julia? I had a very hard time finishing this one, which is never usually the case with her books.

I loved this book. This is a story about the ignored wallflower who dreams of getting noticed by her best friend's handsome brother, but spends a decade as nothing but his little sister's friend. Suddenly, Colin, the handsome brother, returns from years of travels, and finally notices the beautiful blossom underneath the facade of Penelope, the ignored wallflower. What follows is a beautiful, fun story of finding love where it's least expected.

I couldn't wait for this book to come out and I was not disappointed. I don't know what the readers who gave less than 4 or 5 stars were thinking. I liked the fact that Colin was human. He had insecurities and jealousies just like the rest of us.I also liked that Lady Whistledown was unmasked and best of all I liked that Penelope finally got the love she deserved. The second best event was at the end when Cressida Twombly got what she deserved. I can't wait for Eloise's book, Julia. Hurry up!

After reading the other reviews i'm starting to think that maybe i read another book with the same title, as i seem to be the only disatisfied customer.
Now, don't get me wrong, i love Julia Quinn, I own everything she's written and have haunted the store.com waiting for the latest installment. But I have to say it, I was pretty bored, even though I tried and tried to like it.
It's not the standard I've come to expect from Quinn. The plot was lame. I mean it all centered on revealing Lady W, and let's face it, I figured that one out in The Viscount Who Loved Me. Apart from that not much else happened in the book. Colin and Penelope as a couple left me cold and all I could think was, I wonder if Eloise's book will be better.
Also where was the humour?!?!? Yes I know a book doesn't have to be funny to be good. I love Lisa Kleypas and she's pretty humourless, but i didn't even laugh once throughout the book which added to my feeling of dissatisfaction.
Maybe if it had been part of another series, but the style seemed such a departure from the preceding novels that i have to ask myself why.

This story is everything you've ever loved in a romantic comedy, with a wonderful hero, a sassy heroine, and a sarcastic know-it-all. It's every woman's dream of being noticed by Mr. Popular, and even better, finding out that while he's Mr. Right, he's not Mr. Perfect.
With Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, it felt as if I was watching characters I'd loved and adored from the previous stories grow up and find themselves, then fall in love in the sweetest way possible. A must read for any romance reader and particularly a JQ fan.

I have read many historical romance books, but I'm sure this one will always remain one of my all time favorites.

Colin's love for Penelope is so precious and tender.

Penelope had been in love with Colin for years. Colin had always seen Penelope as just a family friend, but when he finally sees through the surface to the woman within, he falls hard.

Both Colin and Penelope came to life for me as I read this book (twice now). I have enjoyed reading the whole Bridgerton series, but this one is definitely my favorite.

I have read all of Julia Quinn's books and this one is my favorite. Colin and Penelope are great characters, perfect for each other, although it takes them awhile to figure it out. But when they do sparks fly! They are by no means perfect people which makes them all the more endearing to the reader. Their journey of discovery is fun to watch, and the end is satisfying, as we get to see one nasty character get her comuppance, (who I won't disclose here). I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a fun read and likable characters!

What a loveable charmer Colin B was? Just like most men, can't see forest for the trees. Whistledown's last column could have been more scathing, and of all the people to choose from to discover Penelope's secret, why the birch, creesida? Should have had her be slapped by someone, lady Danbury. She was a memorable character. Loved it!!!!!!!!

I hate to rain on the parade, but this book was just plain lousy! Quinn introduced us to Colin in previous novels but even his charm couldn't save this disaster.

It was a pleasure reading the other Bridgerton novels (Daphne, Benedict & Francesca's stories so far), but I had to struggle to get through this one. Colin and Penelope's romance took a back seat to the entire "ton" trying to figure out who that irritating Whistledown woman was. To me, Mrs. Whistledown was the most irritating force in all the books!

Julia Quinn is always a top notch romance author. So this book is still 3 stars, all in all, however this was not my favorite book. I never felt connected to the characters and I think too much emphasis was placed on the Lady Whistledown plot line. Penelope was an interesting character, but Colin felt a little flat and never rose to the 'greatness' that Penelope constantly attributed to him. He just didn't seem worthy of her adoration.

Another great read from Julia Quinn just in time for summer reading! As always, I love the characters with their usual humor and engaging dialogue. Turned each page expectantly. Julia Quinn hit her stride on books 3 and 4, then she lost it. Romancing Mr. Bridgerton was great. I've always thought Colin was the best Bridgerton because he has his hands in everybody's business. He was probably the most fully developed of the series. P.S. I knew who Lady W. was since book 2.

I enjoyed reading ROMANCING MISTER BRIDGERTON; I even laughed aloud at times, but, and it's a big but, there's something missing. I think that it's depth of characterization and plot.

This is the first Julia Quinn novel I've read. I like the fact that she doesn't dwell so much on the lovemaking part. Some romance authors tend to exaggerate that. As a long-time romance reader, I prefer dialogues & interactions between the characters.

As for Romancing Mr. Bridgeton, I like the fact that Ms. Quinn made Penelope seem so normal. Some novels tend to exaggerate the beauty of their heroines. Also, their was constant, humorous movement in the novel. Overall, I like it & I'll recommend it to my friends.

I have read all of Quinn's books on the Bridgerton family and have become a fan of hers as a result. This book was a long time coming and perhaps I've expected it to be the best of all the 'Bridgerton series'. Sad to say, I was disappointed with what I've read. I found Colin falling in love with Penelope too sudden and the chemistry between them lacking. It was as if the book's only purpose was to unveil Lady Whistledown and to let Colin find a partner like the rest of his siblings. These two characters seemed more interesting when they were mentioned as supporting characters in other Bridgerton books.

When I read An Offer From a Gentleman I thought for sure that I had found my new favorite romance author, but this book really didn't do anything for me.

I like the 'Sabrina' like story, but I think Colin's attraction to Penelope wasn't developed believeably. He fell in love with her too fast and for no reason.

And Lady Danbury was just obnoxious. I had to roll my eyes every time she said how clever and wonderful Penelope was (which was about 45 times), because Penelope never really said anything clever.

I liked the Lady Whistledown mystery to a point, but overall I thought this book was pretty weak.

Ever since I read "The Viscount Who Loved Me" I have been trying to enjoy Julia Quinn's other books. Try being the operative word. I agree with all the other readers that gave this book two stars, I could not continue reading and had to put the book down. I skimmed as much as I could and could not get myself to continue. How could this be the same writer as TVWLM? The book was completely insipid. It is evident why Penelope is a spinster, who could be attracted to her? She has such poor self-esteem issues. And Colin, he seems underdeveloped and sounds like a younger brother to me. This book reminds me so much of "On the way to the Wedding", it seems Julia likes to repeat the characters. She is falling into Stephanie Lauren's trap. Really, been there done that and really didn't like it. This book is so boring- or rather the characters were so well common. So this leads me thinking, Lady Whistledown is Julia - she likes to observe people and she does a good job as she writes with a discerning ability only people who are very detailed oriented and observant can do so I understand why she is compare to Jane Austen. And there are some very few parts of the book she shows cleverness and witticism. However, she is not constant in her ability to deliver the "seduction" aspect of romance book. She writes about puppy love more times than I can remember. Her heroines have self-esteem issues which is very unattractive - ask any guy. She is so belittling at times, Penelope seems pathetic and self-effacing, which makes her a bit sour and ungenerous. In a word, a involuntary spinster no matter how much she convinces herself. And she loves Colin for no other reason than his mere existence compells her to love him?? For an seemingly educated person she seems a bit dumb in her head and misguided. Grow up Penelope! What do you know of love? You hide yourself and enjoy blending into the background. You have no life and live vicariously through others, how pathetic? You admire Colin because he has more guts than you, he travels and tries to find himself. You well you wait for something to happen to you. I would not waste my money on buying this book I wish I had not.

Her mistake here was making Penelope Lady Whistledown. It overwhelmed the book and took away from the romance. The byplay between both characters on a personal level was lacking as Lady Whisteldown overwhelmed most of their conversations. Still think she is a great writer but this one should have been edited a little bit more.

Julia Quinn has an amazing ability to make her characters seem real. I am truly angry with her that I almost wish I knew the Bridgertons in real life. I actually feel disappointed that I don't. Each book in this series leaves me feeling like I really need to know what happened next.
This book makes one believe in love. The novel did not contain the kind of fantastical impossible and improbable love one can normally find in romance novels. This kind of love is a small flame that turns into a slow and steady burn that can never die out.
