Like the other books in this series, it is a guilty pleasure of mine, and I don't really recommend it to many people. "Teen chick-lit" is just an awkward genre. Sadly the main character is developing into someone who is just led around by circumstances and events that she lets happen and then whines about the outcome. At least in the first book she was a troubled, but strong-willed, up-standing person and it was easier to see why she was having a tough time with making difficult choices. The longer the series goes on the weaker she seems to get in terms of controlling her actions. She needs to (re)learn to take a stand and say "no" to events she knows are bad for her and to take the consequences of her poor choices with more grace. At the end of the book she seemed to come to that conclusion, so here's hoping the fourth book has the stronger Zoey that I met in the first book. Bottom line still is that the STORY isn't bad, I just think the writing style for this story is poor.

Zoey has a charmed life... She has amazing friends, three boyfriends, special markings, is the leader of the Dark Daughters, and is blessed by Nix. What could possibly go wrong? Neferet, the head of the House of Night is actually a bad guy, and she knows Zoey is aware of it. Aphrodite, Zoey's enemy, ends up working with her in unexpected ways. Stevie Rae is still undead and smelly and rapidly deteriorating into a feral beast. Zoey's three boyfriends do not appreciate having to share her. Zoey keeps secrets from her friends and it comes back to bite her in the bum. Nix gives Zoey challenges she isn't sure she can handle. On top of that, religious fanatics are in an uproar about the House of Night and are growing more dangerous. ...I guess it's not really a charmed life after all.
I enjoyed Chosen more than the first two House of Night books. I think it was mostly because Zoey's perfect little bubble bursts and she doesn't get to have her cake and eat it too. She has to fight and she gets hurt and she struggles. I can relate to her more now. The twists surprised me (the bits about Aphrodite, Stevie Rae, and Loren Blake especially) and I had a good time reading the book. I'm not in love with spelling it 'vampyre', but I guess that's Cast's choice. I also didn't care for how often Zoey said cheesy fake cuss words, or said "eesh" or "jeesh". Cast also made up a word for this book - ginormic... I think it's a mash-up of gigantic and enormous, but I think it's lame. Overall, this was a fast, fun read, and I can't wait to see what happens next to Zoey and the gang.

Instead of getting worse, I'm finding that this series is getting better. I don't know if it's because the writing is getting better, or it's because I'm just getting used to it. But, despite my better judgement, I actually liked this book better than its predecessors.
The drama was way more engaging, the characters more interesting. I feel like more things were explained, & things are starting to take shape.
Personally, my favorite part is that Zoey, the main character, messes up completely while in a love triangle... Well it's more of a square... Anyway. She messes up, & she realizes that she's gullible & a bit stupid. Finally. A dumb character who admits to it.
I'm onto the fourth one, I suppose. I hope this high note wasn't a fluke.

While this book was enjoyable, it was a disappointment compared to the first two books in the House of Night series. Chosen focuses mainly on the love trapezoid Zoey is in between her Marked boyfriend, Imprinted ex-boyfriend, and vampyre professor. While it's nice to see these messy relationships of hers finally get resolved, they overshadow more important -- and more interesting -- plotlines in the book. Stevie Rae, for example, is now undead, closely resembling the stereotypical vampires perpetuated by pop culture, but is holding on to enough of her humanity to give Zoey hope that she can save her. The scenes revolving around this plotline are by far the most intriguing and investing to read, and it's a shame there weren't more to balance out the ones of Zoey's romantic entanglements. Also, the murdered vampyres on campus plants seeds for a promising storyline in the future books, but hardly sticks in your mind throughout this one. Zoey makes mistakes and has to live with them, but her consistently amusing voice keeps Chosen from becoming too dreary. Overall, this book was a fast read, albeit a bit slow in the beginning with all the recapping, and fans of the series should definitely check it out.

I stopped reading it after this book. Not to sound snarky and pretentious, but I just read this whole book saying "really?" in my head. Yes, it's a book about kids that are turning into vampires. I must mention that I was a junior in highschool (about five and a half years ago) when I picked this up and read it. the first two books were pretty good, but this one was just too sexual and too far fetched for my liking. The character descriptions and dialogue became so redundant that I wanted to pull my eyes out. I skipped ahead and read the end of the book, and was very disappointed.
I would not recommend this book for adults looking to get their interesting book fix(let's face it. books geared towards adults can be quite boring). For me, it's too much like a fantasy a 16 year old twilight fan would have every day in Algebra class to pass the time.

Chosen is the third novel in the House of Night series, and picks up right where Betrayed left off, with fledgling extraordinaire, Zoey Redbird trying to find a way to save her undead friend Stevie Rae while not giving away to Neferet that she knows about the undead fledglings. Zoey is also now juggling three boyfriends.
I honestly can't say why I keep reading this series. I find most of the characters annoying, the Twins especially, closely followed by Zoey herself. Her "brown pop" drinking, annoying mannerisms ("jeesh"), and her horrible relationship skills (yes, Zoey dear, I think it does make you a ho if you're messing around with three guys at the same time) cause me to grit my teeh. But..at the same time, this series is oddly and highly addicting. I love Stevie Rae and get suckered into the plot every time and stay up late reading! I have already ordered the next two from the library, which I'm sure will annoy and captivate me at the same time.

NOTE:THIS SERIES IS NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNG READERS!(Really guys! IT IS NOT AT ALL SUITABLE FOR YOUNG READERS)
Why I picked it up: Book 2 was better ,So I decided to give this one a shot.Plus,my friend said it gets better.
My Thoughts: I really don't like Zoey.Wasn't it bad enough that she was leading on two guys that they added ANOTHER guy to the mix? That too a *spoiler alert* teacher *spoiler ends*
The height!
Saving grace:Zoey's friends(i.e Erin Bates,Shaunee Cole,Damien Maslin and Stevie Rae)
I think I forgot to mention the fact that the antagonist is also very weak in this series.Usually, you're scared of the antagonist but not in this series!Half the time I'm wondering why Zoey's is even scared of the antagonist.(Guess I don't find her scary)
IF YOU really BADLY need/want to pick up this series I beg you to start from Untamed. The first three books are horrible!

This is the third book in the house of night series. Zoey at this point has discovered a new enemy and lost a friend. Now she has more problems to deal with. One of which is too many guys that all seem to just love Zoey. She of course makes mistakes that end up costing her a lot. I actually liked the twists and turns in the story but I was very upset with what I viewed as one of her biggest mistakes. I don't think the authors were trying to say it's ok for a teenager to do what Zoey did but that's how it came across (anyone who read the book can guess what I'm talking about).
I didn't feel like the characters got anymore developed and again repeating who they were from the books before got a little annoying.
I know I said a lot of criticism but I still enjoyed the book. It's easy to read (except repeating the "twins" are called that because...). To be honest I couldn't put the book down until I was done mostly because I wanted to know how things ended up. I wanted to see how Zoey deals with the situations she gets herself into and the ones that are created around her. I don't think she's a very strong figure for the matriarchal society that the book revolves around. I think she needs to drop calling herself names and deal with the problems instead.
Overall it's a pretty good book to read as part of the series.

After having been let down by Betrayed, the second book in the House of Night series, I wasn't sure what to expect with Chosen. Would Zoey be able to save her undead dead friend Stevie Rae? Would she ever resolve the boyfriend drama? What about her rivalry with High Priestess Neferet? It had seemed we were heading somewhere, and I wasn't sure it was going to be worth the ride, but I plunged ahead into Chosen anyway. And I was pleasantly surprised.
Zoey's world is crashing around her in Chosen. She's still got the boyfriend dilemma (why on earth didn't she just stay with Erik?), and her relationship with young professor Loren Blake is still just icky. Heath's still around, still Imprinted, and Zoey's still confused. In fact, this confusion takes a major amount of energy and drives a lot of the plot in Chosen. Meanwhile, Zoey's relationship with her mother and step-loser continues to deteriorate, and there's another Full Moon Ritual coming up. Zoey's unsure what to do to save her best friend Stevie Rae, but she knows she must do something, and it's going to have to involve arch-nemesis Aphrodite. Sound like enough turmoil? It's not. Adult vamps are turning up horribly murdered, and war against the humans is about to be launched.
I liked that this book showed us another side of Zoey--the confused teen who is led by her hormones to do things she knows she shouldn't. Yet Zoey still wants to protect her friends, though they don't understand. I was disappointed in their treatment of Zoey at the end; sure, she didn't make the best decisions but they are supposed to be her friends, the ones who have supported her throughout her transition into the House of Night. So now Zoey's alone, more confused than ever, and her worry over both Stevie Rae and Aphrodite will be driving her actions in the next installment. I hope the Casts will show us a continually maturing Zoey, not just a powerful one, in Untamed. I'll be waiting for it.

This is the third book in the House of Night Series. With Bloodlust and dark forces are at work vampyre Zoey Redbird's adventures at the school are about to take a mysterious turn. While enemies are turning into friends, Zoey is tested like never before with her best friend Stevie Rae dying and undying but struggles to maintain her humanity. Also in this book Zoey find herself with three boyfriends. There mixed more than a little forbidden desire into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster of massive proportions. I liked reading this book. As the books come out and the adventure continues Zoey is starting to see what is going on and some are not who they say they are. I loved this book; it's one of my favorites. I highly recommend this book.

"Yep, I have a seriously sucky birthday," I told my cat, Nala. And Zoey Redbird couldn't be more accurate with that statement!! First of all her birthday is December 24th, and everyone always gets her Christmas themed birthday presents. Her mother has basically given up on her. Her step-loser (uh, step-father) is an elder in the People of Faith church. They believe that all Vampyres are evil, and now some not-so-veiled threats have been received. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, "died" at the last Full Moon Ritual. But I guess you have to use that term loosely. When a fledgling is "marked", the change process to become an adult Vampyre begins. Not all fledglings survive the change because their bodies reject it. Some die. But Stevie Rae's death was actually another type of change. Because now she has become "undead", almost a caricature of what people believe vampires to be: full of bloodlust, only can move at night, and rather evil. But at least in Stevie Rae's case, a small part of her humanity is still present and Z wants to help her.
Then there's the fact that she has 3 boyfriends. The wonderful Erik Night, who is an upperclassman at the House of Night and a total catch. Her human ex-boyfriend, Heath who doesn't really want to be an ex. Ever since Zoey drank a little of his blood, they Imprinted and Heath just can't leave Zoey alone. And then there is Loren Blake, the Vampyre poet Laureate. He's gorgeous, sensitive, an adult Vampyre and a teacher to boot. Completely off-limit to students, but he really has a thing for Z.
Finally, there is Neferet, the High Priestess at the House of Night. She was Zoey's mentor and friend, until she betrayed her. Zoey knows she has something to do with the Undead fledglings and Stevie Rae. Zoey knows in her heart that Neferet represents something evil, but she doesn't know what to do about it. She can't even discuss it with her friends. Since Neferet has the ability to read minds, the little her friends know, the safer they will be. Zoey feels awful about lying to them, but she really is doing it for her own good. Then there is Aphrodite....Zoey's sworn enemy. When Zoey took over control of the Dark Daughters from Aphrodite, Neferet told everyone that the Goddess Nyx had withdrawn Aphrodite's powers to see the future. But that wasn't true. And since Neferet was unable to read Aphrodite, she turns out to be the one person who can really help her navigate her way through the mess her life has become!
When Zoey and Aphrodite stumble across the body of one the adult vampyre professors, it's almost a certainly that something bad is on the horizon. A war between the humans and the vampyres is coming and Zoey is trapped smack dab in the middle.
Can I just say now how much I really LOVE this series?? With that said, I really hated the ending of this book. I do realize Chosen ended in a way that will lead us to the next book. Zoey is a wonderful character: she is strong, smart and vulnerable at the same time. When she makes mistakes, she tries to own up to them and that makes her something special. She has been blessed by Nyx with an affinity for ALL the elements AND the spirit. Again, that is something that has never happened before. She is definitely a High Priestess in training. She just needs to figure out who she can really trust and find a way to do something about all the drama that has become her life!
This book was fantastic, even with the ending that I didn't like and a Zoey that was more than a little whiney. Doesn't make it a bad book. Just leaves me on pins and needles until the next book is out. And I can't WAIT until Untamed, Book 4 in the House of Night series is released later this year!!

Now that we get further into the series, I have to say I am really concern with the choices that Zoey is making. I understand that she is teenager going threw some stuff, but seriously .Zoey, is supposed to be the leading role model. And now she is nothing but a deviant. At this point I am all for Erik. He is a great guy and I can't understand why Zoey can't see that. Instead she goes with some other vampire and has to ruin everything!
This book was the same as before. It has sex, drugs, violence, etc. So NOT for a teenager. The book was fast paced and has good plot. As far as the characters developing, they seem not to be. They are all frozen acting the same way, making the same mistakes. You think that they would learn. I really wish someone would grow up and make some good choices here.

The novel, Chosen, by P. C. and Kristen Cast continues the story of the vampyre fledgling, Zoey Redbird's hectic life at the vampyre finishing school, The House of Night. In this world, vampyres and humans have always coexisted. Each species knows the other is there, but the two rarely interact with one another. In this book, some of Zoey's problems get solved, and even more unfold. There are ups and downs in her relationships and the plot takes some unexpected twists. Chosen is the third installment in the House of Night series. It immediately follows Betrayed and Marked is book one, where Zoey starts her journey.
From page one, Chosen reeled me in. The plot gets juicy and complicated. The people you thought were enemies start to become friends. Friends start to become enemies. After I had to put the book down, all I could think about was what was going to happen next. The only thing I wished to do was to find out what was to be on the next page. I was able to finish the book within twenty-four hours. I picked it up one night, and finished it the next afternoon. Now prior to completing the book, I cannot stand waiting until I can get my hands on the next one, Untamed.
Even though Chosen was an amazing novel, and a joy to read, every book has some flaws. In my opinion, the story's writing style could have been improved. There wasn't much description and feeling. Some parts I was even annoyed with a certain character because they would do the dumbest things possible in their situation. The House of Night series is written in the perspective of seventeen year old Zoey, so I can understand why the authors wrote the book the way that they did. Even so, I thought they could have done better. I believe that if the plot wasn't so enthralling, that I would have been bored. Some books are eligible to even make the low parts of a plot be captivating. There were some points in the book that seemed like they were thrown in there to make the book have all of its 307 pages.
Even though there were some weird parts to the plot, all of the 307 pages were fascinating. I would recommend this book to all female adolescents. It is one book that can be read over and over again.

Up until this point I've been a bit critical of the House of Night series. I keep calling it a series that has potential but hasn't realized it yet. I admit that I wasn't so sure of these books after reading Marked, but after Betrayed I thought things were starting to move in the right direction. But then I read Chosen. What happened, Casts? I was hoping for the series to just keep improving but Chosen was actually a few steps backward.
I'm not going to go over again what I think is wrong with the series in general. Those are detailed in my reviews of Marked and Betrayed. I'm going to stick specifically with my thoughts on Chosen.
First off, I know I complain a lot about Zoey being perfect. I do this because it is a blatant issue that needs to be dealt with and it annoys me a lot. I think Chosen was meant to illustrate Zoey's imperfections since she seems to make a lot of bad choices and she's pretty much friendless by the end of the book. But it didn't really showcase Zoey's shortcomings so much as it came across as a compensation for what I'm sure have been multiple complaints by readers. It's like Zoey was saying, "Look at me, guys! I'm not so perfect! I can make bad choices, too!"
Okay. Zoey's imperfections include all of the following:
1) She witholds vital information from her friends in an effort to keep them safe. This results in anger on their part. Really not so much an imperfection or even an example of a bad choice. It could probably be classified as a misunderstanding that will only make Zoey look more virtuous once it's cleared up.
2) Zoey can't choose between boys and this makes her a 'ho'. And I can understand a girl having a weakness for boys and having trouble choosing. Not exactly what I would call an interesting or tragic weakness like having a lame leg or being jaded and unable to form solid relationships but whatever. (Or the visions Aphrodite has which can be considered both a gift and a curse depending on which way you look at it.) Zoey can't choose between however many guys she has chasing after her. But there's really only so far that little subplot can stretch before it gets old. When Zoey went to end her relationship with Heath I had that "YOU GO GIRL" attitude. Because I thought we might actually be GETTING SOMEWHERE with the love triangle. But no. She ends up in the same place she did the last time she tried to break up with Heath: lusting over his blood and still in a (demented) relationship.
And she potentially kills two guys in the process. Which I want to discuss briefly. I guess the whole scene might have been interesting if it wasn't so arbitrary and poorly dealt with. She doesn't stay long enough to find out if they're dead and it's never brought up again save for a moment of "OMIGOD I THINK I MIGHT HAVE JUST BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR TWO DEATHS" and then we're back to boyfriend troubles.
3) Zoey makes bad choices. Or at least a small series of related bad choices that accumulate in the climax that anyone thinking rationally would have seen coming. Thus we have my biggest problem with this installment: I complimented the last book on the storyline and flow of events. Because despite its problems the book was generally engaging. But in Chosen the best way to describe the storyline is forced. Here's what I mean:
I didn't believe that Zoey the oh-so-virtuous who condemns anyone who so much as kisses in public as a 'ho' would hop into the sack with a teacher on an impulse. Even if I did believe it, it's too much of a stretch for me to believe that Zoey would ignore that goddess-given feeling in her stomach and spill EVERY COMPROMISING DETAIL she's been dealing with the entire book to a man who's almost a complete stranger. Everything about Stevie-Rae and Neferet and anything else any sane person would have kept quiet about.
Events in this story moved happened because the authors needed for them to happen. Zoey needed to confess what she knew so that she could be betrayed and the conflict with Neferet would further. Adding to this the fact that none of the faults of previous books have improved makes for one very unhappy reader.
I hope Untamed brings this series back up to the level of Betrayed.

To give a synopsis of this book would be to spoil the story, so I'm going to skip it and get straight to the review. This book suffers from the same problem as the first two in the series; some of the things that Zoey says is just too juvenile. How many teenagers do you know that say "poo" instead of the s word? Aside from that, this was a very quick, enjoyable read. In Chosen, Zoey finds herself facing much more adult problems. Some of the choices she makes are very naive, but she's a teenager and that's to be expected. The thing is, she's learning from her mistakes and I think that will lead to better decisions in future books. This one ends with a lot of unanswered questions, so I'm about to go dig the next one out of my closet and start reading.

I purchased this book.
Chosen is the Empire Strikes Back of the Casts' vampire finishing school series. Previously, Zoe Redbird was marked to become a vampyre, a favored person of the night goddess Nyx. Upon entering the House of Night she discovered an imbalance in the workings of the vampires and realized Nyx had charged her with fixing it. In book one Zoey takes on class queen and total meanie, Aphrodite. In book two Zoe learns that Aphrodite was not even close to the big bad of the series and something worse is going on, claiming fledgelings from the House of Night and turning them into something else.
In this third book Zoe now knows that the high priestess of the House of Night, and Zoe's personal mentor, Neferet, is somehow behind her best friend's transformation from an ordinary fledgeling into a full realized--something--with a red crescent mark instead of Nyx's sapphire mark. But no matter how gifted she is, she is still a fledgeling and she's facing a fully trained, intelligent and malicious adult whose hands are firmly wrapped around other people and other powers.
In addition, Zoey still is finding herself unable to let her human high school boyfriend go, unsure if it's because she doesn't want to let go of her human life, or because he's the only source she has of fresh blood. When vampyre hottie and school poetry teacher Loren Blake starts making some serious moves on her, Zoey finds herself unable to even think or resist against his charms, despite her already complicated love life.
But she has to keep Loren, the red fledgelings and Stevie Rae secret from her best friends, risking their rage, because Neferet's mind reading powers (which don't work on Zoey) could put them all in danger. The only person Zoey has to talk to, the only other person immune to Neferet's mind reading, is Aphrodite, who has been publicly humiliated and abandoned Nyx--according to Neferet. Zoey's sudden trust of Aphrodite sits just as badly with her friends, prepping the House of Night crew for a show down that's less magic and fighting and more tempers and ill-will.
Despite the amount of emotional turmoil in this book it manages to avoid being needless high drama. Also missing is the borderline preachiness some readers have found in previous installments of the series. The Casts keep a balance between the elements introduced previously in the series; Zoey's family troubles, the mystery of the red fledglings, Neferet's bipolar influences, Zoey's struggles with her love life, and the battles of high school themselves; and still manage to move the overall plot forward..
If you haven't read the series before, don't start here because by this book readers should be well entrenched in the series to understand the importance of the climax and ending. It also helps, since book four is already available if you grab that one as well for a continuous flow of the overall storyline. Again, this is a fabulous dark urban fantasy series for readers who want dangerous and complex, but aren't ready for the sexual and violent content of more adult series on shelves today.

Now that Zoey Redbird, fledgling vampyre and high priestess in training at the House of Night, has discovered what really happened to the fledglings who seemingly died before they fully made the change, she is determined to help one of them, her best friend Stevie Rae, get back her full humanity. But doing this is more easier said than done, since her relationship with Nefret, her mentor, has become more than strained now that Zoey has learned more than a few dark and terrible secrets about her seemingly warm and welcoming teacher. On top of this, Zoey's own weaknesses, including her relationships with three guys (her human ex-boyfriend, her fellow fledgling, and a seductive professor/vampyre poet) have become her worst Achilles heel, and when she goes all the way with one of them, it upsets the balance of trust with her friends, right when she needs them most...
Things are really heating up for Zoey and her pals in this third book: a lot changes and a lot of new curveballs are being thrown at her. The writing seemed a little thinner than usual in this installment, but there's so many plot twists and new developments, a faster-paced style might have been in order. I like how Zoey has developed: her life isn't as perfect as we thought, and she herself has become one of her own worst enemies. Speaking of which: if you're reading this, PC and Kristin, I hope Nefret gets a stake through her nasty bitch heart in the sixth book coming out this October: I love how you've developed her into more than just an overly sweet and friendly and fluffy Pagan priestess, but she's such a psycho, she has *got* to get it in the end and get it hard and painful. (In the meantime, I'm contenting myself with writing fanfiction in which an army of vampire killers from a whole slew of books and movies take heron)

While not the best vampire series, I've enjoyed it so far. But the 3rd in the series has definitely not been my favorite. I can't exactly pinpoint what it is that made this book less than than the first two. Maybe it's the "teen" talk that seems to be way over the top. Or maybe its the strange relationship between teacher and student that doesn't seem quite plausible. I also didn't quite like how fast Zoey's friends seemed to drop her after the discovered she had been lying. Seems second chances aren't given in the House of Night. I did enjoy the development of Aphrodite's character and what might actually be a friendship between Zoey and her. I also liked the strength Zoey is showing. Her powers would be a lot for any teenager to handle and think so far she's doing a understandable job taking it all in stride.

I saw the author on the news one day talking about this series, so I figured I'd try it. It's the third book in the House of Night series. This series is not as good as I'd hoped it would be but felt compelled to finish the books that I already have.
Zoey Redbird a vampyre fledgling who's been marked by the goddess Nyx. She's the most powerful fledgling ever with the affinity for all five elements, earth, wind, water, fire and spirit. Her roommate and best friend is one of the undead dead vampyres and her High Priestess, Neferet, is in the middle of all the evil that's been happening. Not to mention Zoey has a three boyfriend problem.
This book has so many repetitions. I'm not sure how many times we've opened a circle by calling each element. After the first three or four times you just want it to be over. I skipped a lot in this book. It just did not hold my interest. I know it's for teens, but most teens would probably find it just as redundant.
Not a whole heck of a lot seems to even happen during this book. Neferet is on winter vacation throughout most of the novel. She just seems to show up towards the end. It's very predictable and you could see what was going to happen a mile away.
The main theme to this one is keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Unfortunately, for Zoey she does that without even knowing who's who.
Since I already have book four, I will be reading through it. I figure, I might as well not waste the book I already have. I'll hold out on the hope that it picks up and gets better.

I picked up this series because I have started to like more "paranormal" series vs. reading just stand alone novels and I have to tell you that I wasn't sure if I was liking the series with just book one-up until the middle to end of the book. That was when I realized that it was pretty cool. It took a while to get used to Zoey's (the main character) narrative but by this book (book 3) you feel like you know her and aren't suprised by anything that comes out of her mouth. This book picks up where the 2nd one leaves off: Zoey is the leader of the Dark Daughters and is imprinted with Heath her "ex" human boyfriend, dating Erik Night one of the most handsome and popular students at the House of Night, and is being flirted with by the mysterious and handsome poet Loren, which is a teacher at her school. Suddenly not only does Zoey have to deal with her bloodlust issues and dating 3 guys at once - she has to come to terms with the realization that her best friend - who is now the Undead dead - needs her help or her soul will be lost to darkness forever and that humans are stalking vampires and murdering them - causing the vampires at and students at the House of Night to become uneasy with humans being so close to them. This book was really good (the best of the 3 out so far) and I can't wait for more to come!!

Chosen is the third installment in the House of Night series by P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast. I am reading through this series entirely too fast for my own good! The authors balance the more mundane and normal aspects of Zoey Redbird's life with the other-worldly, mystical aspects. Her birthday coincides with Christmas Eve but her best friend is currently undead, leaving her with a rather "full plate." Pile on juggling three boyfriends, the goddess Nyx making her once-enemy her new magical sidekick, and once-trusted advisor becoming her enemy. With that much to deal with, something is bound to backfire given enough time. But even when things start falling apart, she still stays true to her destiny to follow the path that Nyx has given her. I think the series would lose much if its appeal without the balance of the "normal" teenage stuff with the supernatural. If I had to say something bad about the series, I would not mind more development on the textbook stuff that Zoey is supposed to be learning - very little of the books cover actual classroom activities, causing me to wonder what it is the students of the various Houses of Night actually do during the four years it takes for them to go through the Change.
I've already read the fourth installment, Untamed, but I have to get the library to order the next one. I hate waiting!

I enjoy books that are different from the norm, and while these books are a completely new concept that I have not seen yet, they also could grow quite a bit. Overall, I would give the series so far a 3 out of 5. The concept of the books and the idea behind the series is good and very unique. The vampires are different and don't follow most of the stereotypes associated with the vampire world (undead, immortal, blood-thirsty, only survive off of blood, don't sleep, etc.). The vampires in the Cast's novels are not immortal, although they do live longer than humans. They do eat, although they need blood to survive. They do sleep, although they are primarily nocturnal. Most importantly, they are alive, and they are not created by another vampire biting them. These vampires seem to be traditional vampires mixed in with practicing Wiccans. The concept that these characters in the book have normal teenage problems, coupled in with problems associated with the new world in which they're involved in can get complicated at times, and hard to follow. The writing style is very juvenile, but speckled with adult themes and language, which I find to be inappropriate. The use of cliches and currently popular teenage "catch phrases" give the books a very short shelf life. Another aspect of the series that I don't like is the fact that religion and Christianity is referred to as "people of faith" and are seen as judgmental and stereotyped badly. One thing I do like is the incorporation of Native American traditions and values. Overall, an okay book and series, but definitely not one of the best I've read.
My rating says a 4, but I would definitely only consider this book 3 stars. I hope my thoughts are helpful.

I read the first 2 and I thought they were ok. Obviously, not the best I have ever read. I happened to have the third one, simply, because it was a dollar at Half Price Books. I figured I read this one, but knew I wouldn't purchase anymore of the series. Thank God I made that decision. This book made me cringe.
1. The writing was terrible. There are several grammatical errors, and it seems that the aurthor doesn't understand when to use commas. And I understand that the author was trying to make the novel more suited for teens by making the dialouge come off as more "teenagerish," but as a teenager, I am offeneded that the author, one whom is a teen, makes our age group come off as ignorant and only obsessed with looks when it comes to guys. I totally say totally every sentence. That's how got to the top of my class.
2. It's horrendous how Zoey is portrayed. In the previous books, she always calls Aphrodite a slut. Obviously, a girl with 3 "boyfriend" would be able to identity one. Yet, she seems too perfect. Nyx gifted her with all these powers. She is the most popular in school, and it happens all her friends are gifted? Very believable.
3. The student- teacher relationship. Not at all ok. Now, I am a huge fan of Vampire Academy and realize that there is a student - teacher relationship, but I can't help but find that is far more acceptable. Not that I am supporting it, but at least Dimitri tries to stop it and move on rather than pursuing the girl. Loren does the complete opposite. Zoey knows it is wrong, btut he teaher has no issues about by making his feelings known and basically forcing himself on a minor.
This book has a different and refreshing plot, but they way it is conveyed ruins it. I was recommended this book by a friend, but I'm trying to fathom why it was. This was a waste of my time, and do not wish to read anymore of the series.

And no, it's because of the authors' great writing ability. Though I will admit this series has improved greatly from the first book. SPOILERS below:
I felt like a lot of this book was wasted on Zoey's inability to choose which boy she wants to be with when it should have been focused on her stopping Neferet. However, in a series of nine or ten books I didn't really expect anything to be resolved this early on. I LOVED Stevie-Rae's storyline and am so glad she was not written off. I also enjoyed the subtle changes in Aphrodite's character, though I'm not sure how big a part she will have in the next book if she is truly human again. Zoey has also grown up a bit, though I am very disappointed in the whole Loren Blake storyline. Sleeping with a teacher is not a good guideline for the younger teens that are undoubtedly reading this series. Zoey jokingly refers to herself as "turning into a ho", which is exactly what's happening. I hope she grows out of this behavior in the next book. I thought Chosen had the strongest plot so far, and I'm looking forward to picking up Untamed and reading more about Zoey and her friends.

Perhaps I'm a traditionalist, or perhaps I'm just boring, but I do prefer to be able to read a book without wanting to bash the main character over the head with a sack of pennies.
A bit of background here: I am an avid House of Night fan. Yes, they're cheesy, and yes, at times they are very poorly written, but doesn't everybody have their guilty pleasures? Anyway, my friend put me onto these a couple of years ago, just after "Betrayed" came out. I enjoyed the first two books, but when I got to this one, I read about a quarter of it and then threw it forcibly across the room. I gave up on the series after that for a long time.
Then a few years later, after the release of "Burned", I remembered how much I'd enjoyed "Marked" and re-read it. Then I proceeded to finish the rest of the books- except Chosen. It was only about a month ago that I finally had the patience to go back and finish it. Afterwards, I felt compelled to warn other readers: you will hate everybody in this book when all is said and done.
So, without giving away TOO many plot points, I will explain what makes this book so hard to read. Zoey makes some very poor decisions about love which occasionally become grounds for knocking your head against your desk. Heath is downright irritating; I don't care how much he explains his whole "I've always loved you and I always will and I will never give up on you" agenda, he still comes across as an exceptionally muttonheaded stalker who won't take no for an answer. Oh, and did I mention how manipulative he can be? He and Zoey can NOT have a civilized conversation without him pulling out that damn razor of his and slashing his neck. Loren is just a sleaze, and quite frankly I don't know why Zoey didn't run for the hills after a few of their "encounters". Neferet is... well... Neferet, but we're not supposed to like her, so I can't fault her for being a total bitch. Erik reveals his inner psycho when he gets his heart (or possibly his ego) broken and goes on a tirade that would make Christian Bale proud. I do feel genuinely sorry for a couple characters at the end, but that doesn't make up for all the brain-melting teen angst the reader has to sit through for the rest of the story.
The reason I give this book 3 stars and not 2 is because while it was a highly annoying read, it was very effective in arousing the reader's emotions. It reads like tabloid journalism with a touch of class and emotional depth- lots of sordid plot lines, murder, scandal, cattiness, etc.
All in all, I didn't think this was one of the best in the series. But the later books make up for it. So if you hate it, skip it. All the events of this book come out in the wash eventually.

When she was Marked by the goddess Nyx, teenager Zoey Redbird is taken to the House of Night School where she will eventually change into a vampyre or die. Her roommate Stevie Rae died in her arms but Zoe soon learned that she became one of the undead. Zoe is the most powerful fledging in vampyre history, able to call and master all five elements. She is trying to find a way to restore Stevie's soul and humanity but the high priestess in training can't tell her closest friends because their minds can be read by the perpetrator of this abomination.
Tensions rise when the fundamentalist group People of Faith beheads one of the vampyre teachers and nail her body to a wooden cross. The vampyre High Priestess calls in the Sons of Erebus, vampyre warriors, to guard the school. The only person who can help her get out is Aphrodite who knows what is going on with Zoey because she is the only other fledging whose mind can't be read. Trying to make up for her sins to the goddess, she helps Zoey and Stevie but the peace that has existed between humans and vampires is shaky and almost any action taken against a vampire will destroy it; Zoey will be in the middle of the two warring factions.
This is the third House of Night novel and it as just as compelling and spell binding as MARKED and BETRAYED. The heroine, a young teen, acts very mature for her age risking her friends' anger if they find out what she is keeping from them in order to protect them. Her nemesis Aphrodite is a bit softer than in previous tales because she knows her actions went against the will of Nyx. In the Cast mythos humans don't die to become vampires and humans know about their existence and for the most part accept them.

Another great edition to the series. Although in this book, i was really disappointed in Zoey's choice to alienate Erik and become so infatuated with Loren for literally non reason. But I suppose every main character is entitled to a little mishap now and then. Still a solid book, but maybe not the best of the series solely for the reason of Zoey's poor choices in the book.

Okay, so I do love this series. You must be able to look past the errors and the way too frequent use of the "r" word. I cannot stand any use, and this series uses it often. I almost stopped reading them because of it, but I was already invested.
I decided to read them again when the newer books in the series came out before I read the new books. My husband purchased the series on audiobooks because he finds it easier to listen while he is doing other things. I decided to give them a try, and the first three books have been KILLING me with the actor's constant pausing to audibly swallow and even occasionally quietly burp... seriously??!! Who could have been listening to her read this without stopping her to make her reread things when she makes such disgusting sounds so often? She was pretty bad about it in the first two books, but this third book is horrid. I am actually getting grossed out by all of the loud swallowing noises, and I swear she has actually paused to quietly burp at least twice by the time you get halfway through the book. I would have stopped listening already if my husband hadn't already promised me they switch actors after the third book. The sticky mouth, swallowing, burping sounds are so distracting that I cannot even enjoy the story this time around. I will never listen to another book with this actor reading ever again. YUCK!

I loved this book!!! But there were somethings that just bugged me as I was reading it. Zoey whined to herself a lot ( I understand though, if you can't whine to yourself who can you whine to?) and she didn't mature as the book progressed, she just stayed stagnant. The first couple of chapters picks up literally where the last one ended, she still hasn't told any of her friends about Stevie Rae, she still hasn't dealt with her men problems and her mom and step dad still suck.
BUT, as you get towards the middle of the book things start to pick up and have you biting you nails again. Zoey becomes forced deal with all the situations that she has put aside. Said situations make her grow up and forces her to make difficult decisions that affect her and everyone else. Zoey at the end of the book has grown as a person but not without some hardship. I would definitely re-read this book.

I completely blew through both MARKED and BETRAYED with great enthusiasm. But upon getting to CHOSEN, I'm sorry to admit to some disappointment. While I agree that Zoey was starting to become more perfect than real and that she kind of needed a good harsh wake-up call, I do not think this was the kind of wake-up call she should have gotten.
Yes, teenagers can be fickle; but as we saw in both MARKED and BETRAYED, Zoey's friends are anything but. They are strong, close-knit group of people who were as tight as family, and yet...suddenly they are falling apart. Yes, she tried to avoid hurting their feelings about the birthmas presents- how many of you would honestly tell your best friends that you hate the present they got you? And yet, they all took offense over a private birthday card they shouldn't have read in the first place. And at the end, when they found out that Zoey had kept Stevie Rae from them...okay, I can understand being mad. But abandoning her when she needs them the most? What kind of friends does she really have?
I also think that the thing with Loren was ridiculous. No offense to the authors, because I do love their story. But...what? She goes from a rather strong resistance to him (as well as to Heath and Erik) on the whole sex front to suddenly sleeping with him in a public place? Kind of a tacky way to make her problems explode, don't you think?
Although, I have to admit the basic story and the fight to save Stevie Rae helped pull the book up, the whole fickle nature of CHOSEN's storyline drags it down.
That won't stop me from reading the next book...

The first two books in this series: "Marked" and "Betrayed" are excellent books to read and the book "Chosen" almost is equal to their excellence. Although there are a few parts in the book I was dissappointed with it was still hooking, exciting and overall very enjoyable...
Zoey Redbird is NOT a normal fledgling (young vampire). She been "gifted" by the goddess Nyx with special powers that have to do with all the elements (fire, water, air, earth and spirit) and has several very interesting tattoos that have appeared all over her body. In the previous two books Zoey has had to deal with many things that normal fledglings don't have to deal with and in this story Zoey is desperatley trying to bring her best friend, Stevie Rae back from the "undead".
Stevie Rae died as a fledgling as many fledglings do because her body rejected the "Change" to become a full-grown vampire but she didn't really die. She became what is called "undead". Zoey knows that Stevie Rae isn't like the other undead vampires and is desperatley trying to bring her back to her normal self with the help of her enemy/friend Aphrodite.
Meanwhile Vampires are being killed in cruel ways and strange messages have been written by them in blood. Could it be the Protectors of the Faith? Could Zoey's mother and step-loser be involved?

After finishing the second book, I was eager to continue the series. My enthusiasm diminished as I progressed through the book. It took me much longer to get through this book, and I read other books while attempting to finish it.
First, the whole "3" boyfriends has gotten stale and degrading. Zoey is supposed to have been "Chosen" by Nyx as exceptional and has powers that exceed any before, yet she continually makes bad choices, even murderous, through the book. One thing I've learned from relationships is if you can't decide who you want between 3 guys, or 2 for that matter, you're probably not meant to be with any of them. I was relieved to see the relationships dwindle by the end of the book. Erik was a bit of a disappointment, but I think he too needs to grow up like Zoey and he had the most potential. The "ho" comment repeatedly thrown out was just tacky!
I also understand that Zoey is a teenager and of course she's going to make mistakes. I just felt she has regressed as the novels have went on, not developed. She needs to be a bit less judgmental. After all her mistakes, she still quick to put others down for their mistakes.
Finally, how superficial were her friends. The descent and realistic step seems like most people would ask why. Especially girls. We over analyze everything, so we want our questions answered. We would have asked more questions before being so quick to shut out.
Hopefully the next book gets back on track. I'll give it one more shot.

The series starts out slow with Marked, introducing the characters and setting the scene for the series. When I started reading Chosen is when I really began to get sucked in to the story. There are 2 rather annoying qualities to the books. One is Zoey's constant love triangle of boyfriends. I wish Zoey would just make a decision and stick with it. The other is that the author recaps everything from previous books, in each book, so readers can pick up any of the books without having read the previous ones. Really, who does that anyway?? So I end up skipping paragraphs of repetetive history I already know which makes the books a quick read. I am thoroughly enjoying the series though, which surprises me since I had no intentions of getting into another vampire series after reading the Twilight series. If you can make it through the first book, it is worth the wait. I can't wait for Burned!

To be perfectly honest, I love this series. Book 1 grabbed me and wouldn't let me go til the end. Book 2 and 3 did the same. Book 4, sorta..but the rest forget it. Book 3 has a good plot line and some good dramatic scenes (i did say "some"), but also some bad scenes.
One thing that was confusing about the story is the term "chosen" for Zoey near the end and used throughout the story... What does that even mean? In the first books it is NEVER MENTIONED (sure it wasnt needed, but a little indication of why Zoey was chosen would have helped me to understand what she was going through).
Also, the fact that her friends were so nice and sweet to her before but now turn their back on her so fast is aggravating. Why are you guys friends if you don't give each other a chance to explain? Like Zoey couldn't tell them because of stupid Neferet's mind reading/intuition! But no, just "you kept secrets from us?! how could you?" and Zoey grovels...without telling them why she is groveling.. Sigh.
But I'm curious, why was the cover a white neck (probably for a vampyre) and what was up with the red beaded chocker necklace with a silver moon engraved with pretty shapes? It's gorgeous, but why? In Marked, it makes sense for the vampyre/fledgling aspect. The cover for Betrayed is logical, a girl betrayed and walking away from her betrayer... But Chosen, has a neck with a chocker and a silver crescent moon. The moon could stand for Nyx, the goddess of night represented by the crescent. The red beads may be from the Dark Daughters thing, but iss the necklace a ceremonial CHosen thing?
The book itself was okay, but not good . . . or bad. So only 3 stars.

I don't know why I keep trying to read these book. They aren't well written, and the authors try so hard to seem cool - it reads like they're trying to sound like teenagers but they have no idea what teenagers are actually like. There is also a lot of stereotyping, even though the authors constantly seem to be claiming that characters are not stereotypes. The story also very predictable. There were just so many problems with almost everything about the book.

The premise of the series is quite interesting though Zoey is probably one of the biggest and most annoying Mary Sue's in fiction right now. (Think Bella Swan sue but even more blatant...and yeah, I didn't think that was possible either.)
From the moment Zoey has a dream in which a *goddess* basically tells her how awesome and unique she is, I knew it was going to be one of those books (Read: published fanfic)
And my god do these ladies try to make sure that we know how special Zoey is. As if the super pretty, super sparkly facial tattoos weren't enough...almost everybody she meets tells her how awesome, powerful and pretty she is (including the ever original Hottest Guy At School) and she manages to dethrone the one person who doesn't fall simpering at her feet the moment she walks through the door.
But it's this book when everything starts to really fall apart.
Let's imagine that this book was written from a male perspective and it was I dunno, all about Joey.
Joey hanging with his friends. Joey stringing along his high school girlfriend. Joey making out with his other girlfriend. 16/17 yr old Joey sleeping with his teacher after sneaking around behind his other two girlfriends backs with her....
Uh hello five star reviews....where did you all go? It would be pretty hard to care about a cheating player like Joey, wouldn't it?
Overall, it's really hard to care about or even like a protagonist as selfish, weak willed, immature and well, dumb as Zoey (especially when we're constantly told how brilliant she is )and the lack of an actual interesting plot and weak supporting characters don't really motivate me to pick up the next book.
The only characters with any real development are Stevie Rae and Aphrodite...but even they aren't enough to make up for such a terrible, unsympathetic lead as Zoey Redbird.

Once again, I can't give more than 3 stars. The series is a bit addictive, however the book is extremely repetitive to a fault. Most books involve 2 guys wanting the girl, this one has 3 guys, a bit crazy to me. The sex stuff is more in this book, but I'm 32 and married and I get a kick out of it. I do find her friends being more and more boring though, so many times I'm skimming and/or skipping what they say and just getting to Zoey's part. Overall, I will continue to read the series, but I'm not sure they are worth owning, unless you can buy super cheap.

This is the third in the House of Night series. I am just flabbergasted that the character development continues to deepen. The characters become more and more demensional. I have read the Twilight series and loved that--but this story is so different and as equally engrossing. I love the spiritual take on vampires the authors use. I really like the weaving of the native american traditions in the story to give the main character more depth, making the fact that she was Marked (book 1),very believable. The descriptions of teen life can at times be very elementry and juvenile, but so are teens. I was at first irritated by some of the teen characters overreactions to situations, and then remembered my own "over the deep-end" reactions when I was that age. The descriptions of the tattoos and rituals are very delicate and beautiful. I think Kristin and PC have a unique take on a vampire/teen/first love tale. I look forward to the next books in the series.

Now, if you remember the last book Zoey has quite a few problems and the main one she tries to work out in this book is the boyfriend issue. She has three: Loren Blake (adult Vamp and totally hot), Erik (Fledgling Vamp boyfriend), and Heath (Human Imprinted Boyfriend). Her bigger problems are that Stevie Rae is still Undead dead and losing her humanity every second, and Neferet is the cause and there is something seriously evil and wrong about her. Dispite having done the stupid by reading the back of the book I really liked it right the way through. I love Zoey and can only hope that she makes it through these trials on her way to Adulthood. I also hope that she still has a body left after all the freaking tatoo's she keeps getting. She seems to like it though so whatever.

I just finished the 3rd book in the series-Chosen-and I have to warn you.
It's an intertaining story; however, MANY of the books characters are poorly undeveloped. The "twins" are too much alike and have no real personality of their own, and you hardly ever hear from Erin. The story itself takes place over the course of 2-3 months (that's ALL 3 books.) And yet these people she meets are her best friends right away, but once Zoey runs into some problems they turn on her. Then the nastiest character ends up being more of a friend then the rest of them.
The guys are all 3 the same, and fall for Zoey sooo fast for no reason. I thought there would be a lot more to Erik Night and was totaly let down. Zoey starts of telling Erik how "I'm not that kind of girl," and then she ends up being "that kind of girl," with 3 diff. guys!! Don't get me wrong, Zoey is a likable girl and even relatable, but for a smart girl, she sure is dumb! And then there is the whole repetitive problem...after the first book-Marked-the other two books repeat almost everything over in the fist half of the books!! I don't know about you, but if i need THAT much of a recap, then I can just go back to books 1 and 2!!...GET ON WITH THE STORY! lastly, I really feel that the books should span a much longer deration of time; all of book 2 takes place in a matter of a week. Come on, give us some more time with the characters, let ginuine love and trust, and friendship develop for a while longer so that the things that happen between the charachters is more beleivable.

In my opinion the book is OK not as good as the rest of the series, but I really got annoyed with the DVD case of the audiobook it smells like burned plastic it is totally bridle. It is in fact so bridle that the clips are breaking. The only thing someone can do is to dispose of the case and get a other one (which I did). The second thing I do not really like is that this MP3 CD is a burned CD not a pressed one, but this fact is secondary. In cases like this I regret that I can't make two reviews, one for the story (4 stars) of the book and one for the CD and case (1 star).

I have read every book in this series so far. And I so far think that Zoey Redbird is a caring yet shelfish charter. The series it self is interesting to say the least I however dont know about the vampires also being witches thing going on there.... I will finish out the series like I do any series that I start but it will not be on my top series to recommend. also I wish that they would make the books longer. I mean I understand that they are geared for young adults but y.a. have read thick books like Twilight series, Vampire Diaries, Harry Potter, ect. The house of night books could have easily been combined from soon to be 6 books into 3 and saved the readers the headached of trying to jump from book to book.

Goddess blessed vampire fledgling Zoey and her friends must face treachery and hate crimes while still trying to get good grades (and date) at the House of Night, a vampire finishing school. In this episode Zoey (Z to her close friends) tries to save her undead best friend from a fate worse than death, manage three boyfriends who all want something different from her, and keep the school's evil High Priestess from figuring out her plans.
This segment felt more like a long chapter than a book in its own right. There was some good story movement but the ending was rushed and the conclusion flat. I would have liked to have given the characters more time to play out the drama. Instead of unfolding, the story hits like a mac truck and doesn't stop for anything. While this may lead to furious page turning at 1:00 AM it ultimately feels less satisfying than its slightly slower paced predecessors.
One other complaint: now that we're on to the 3rd book it is harder to get a new reader up to speed. We end up with a lot of exposition that felt clunky and thrown together. The teen language helps to keep it from feeling droll, but it still comes off as a necessary evil instead of an exciting background story. One of the most fun parts of this series is that the tone is so conversational it feels as if Z is telling the story to you, the reader in a relaxed setting. The exposition took me out of that comfortable place. I hope it's better in book four, which I'm about to start reading tonight.
Very worth it if you liked the first two!

I can't wait to get my hands on Untamed.

Marked, Book One, introduced you to the main characters. Betrayed, Book Two gave you Betrayal, death, and a few boyfriends.
This book takes the reader to the dark side. Zoey character is tested & the readers begin to see that Zoey is not prefect - she makes mistakes. Zoey's prefect world seems to crack as the plot progresses. It feels as if this book ended in the middle of sentence - keeps the reader wanting more. The end sets up plot for the next book Untamed - I felt that even though this book is full of mini plots - the large plot (the one that matters most - seemed unresolved). Good thing the next book is already out and, I don't have to wait.

I was given the first book in the series and was told that I would like it. I try to finish books I start, even if I don't like them, and gave these books a valiant effort. But this series has to be the most badly written, most annoying series I've ever read. This book outdoes my worst book of the year by 100 fold.
Zoey is a spoiled, untruthful brat who'll instantly want to make out with anything male that moves. One minute she's sighing dramatically that Eric doesn't like her and then 30 minutes later she's sucking someone's blood. Just like so many recent teen books, the authors portray the young teen hero as being beautiful, talented, and every man in the book wanting to kiss her, dote on her, do whatever she wants whenever she wants. The books move so incredibly slow (two chapters will cover two hours Zoey time, and so far, three books have only been two months Zoey time) that the authors seem to have thrown sex and sex-like thoughts and actions every few pages just to make young readers interested.
I don't have teen daughters, but if I did, there's no way in hell I'd let them read trash like this. I've decided, after reading these books and the Twilight books, that some authors write teen books because they're unable to write anything that adults would find interesting. It kinda makes me wonder what kind of people these authors are in real life.
The books have no real climax. The plot seems to center around Zoey's horrible life and all the guys she wants to do. The language is infantile and if you took out all the sex, not even teens would want to read the books.
I know this is a pretty harsh review, but believe me when I say that these books aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Shame on these authors for writing such crap.

The book was about Zoey and mostly trying to figure out what she is going to do about her best friend Stevie Rae and seeing who she wants to be with. In the story Zoey was really getting on my nerves. Zoey was cheating on her boyfriend and at that point i want just done. She already imprinted on her exboyfriend and is now dating a aduilt. Basically she is with three guys right now. In the story all she did was complain and instead of solving her problems she jsut kept on complaining. In the begining of the book i was about to stop reading the book because Zoey's character was jsut getting on my nerves. The story starts to get alittle bit better. I dont think that the story was as interesting as the first and second book. In the second book Zoeywas really figuring out who she is was and what she had to do to make everything better but in this one she was just constantly complaining and i was getting annoyed. The next thing you know she will have another boyfriend in the story. The best part in the book is at the end.

Oh.My.Goodness. This is the WORST professionally published book I have ever read in my entire life. I felt my IQ slowly decrease with each turn of a page. I continued reading in hope that the horrible grammar and terrible dialogue would cease, but it lasted the entire way through. This book is just a horribly written cliche and I do not understand how it got a second glance from the publishing house. It's so corny and utterly unrealistic, (the fantasy aspect aside, obviously that's unrealistic.) This girl has three stunningly gorgeous boys that are all into her. The personalities of all these characters are so demented and lame. They're all a bunch of ditzes. SPOILER: Towards the end when she somewhat randomly has sex with a professor, her boyfriend walks in on them. (one of her boyfriends, don't get me started on her third romantic partner) The conversation they have afterward is truly pathetic.
Boyfriend: "Why, Zoey?"
Zoey: "I'm so sorry, I didn't want you to find out like that."
Boyfriend: "My girlfriend is a slut."
Zoey: "Oh dear, I'm not a slut! My professor and I are truly in love. We tried to stay away from each other, but we just couldn't."
I wanted to burst out laughing at this scene. Especially since the author barely developed the relationship with them. One second they're exchanging looks, the next, they're sleeping with each other AND in love. Not to mention the professor doesn't really like her and its part of her EVIL DARK NEMESIS'S plan to 'destroy' her. So pathetic. I hated this book. Nuff said.

This book continues the story and takes it in interesting directions. As the fledglings grow up, their stories continue to flourish. Their growing up has more difficulty than just being vampyres as they don't have the adult guidance of a normal home with a 'normal' family, etc. So many different story lines in the dark adventures!

I love the House of Night series. Though throughout the series the jumping around with narrators irritates me a bit and parts are definitely a bit childish, but they are all teenagers so it's understandable. Overall it's a very interesting series and I love the mixture of vampyre and witchcraft.

I have mixed feelings on this book. For the most part, the action was good and propelled the series forward. Zoey finally hit some roadbumps, which is appropriate considering she is supposed to be a teen with ups and downs like anyone else. The new direction the series appears to be going into should be very interesting reading ( I don't want to give too much away!). If you have enjoyed the first two, definitely read this one as well.
My main issue is with the characters. Many Zoey's actions in the book seem very out of character for someone who had judged Aphrodite so harshly and is supposed to be "a good kid". I can see her doing some crazy things, but her romantic behavior in this book made me wish she had an older sister or a trustworthy mentor to talk to. She really needed someone to shake her and tell her she was being an idiot.
Aphrodite's character, in my opinion, was the best developed in Chosen. I like that the Cast's didn't do the typical, "I'm really just misunderstood" direction. I still would recommend for those who like the series, but if you have not read the first two, read those first to get a better view of the world of the house of night.

I like these series but if you want Vampire don't read this one. It is more about the earth, and other elements but not enough blood sucking stuff. :) Not to say I don't like the story of all the books in the series. It just doesn't do a whole lot about vampires. She loses all her men in this book but at least she got some kind of action. I did not like the 4th book.

This series started out so wonderfully - the first book in the series was AMAZING. But it has gone downhill since then. The books don't have pleasant endings, they can't be read on their own, and they are extremely depressing. I recommend that if you want to find out what is happening to the characters that you look at the plot summaries on Wikipedia instead of buying any more of these books - I want my money back for books 3-5 and I have caught up on the rest through wikipedia. I'm not even disappointed - from what I can tell, the plot actually gets MORE DEPRESSING and convoluted in the later books. My advice: Save your money.

I was completely surprised at the twists and turns in Chosen and on the edge of my seat. I have circles under my eyes because I couldn't stop reading some nights!! I was just as charmed by Loren, and I'm sure I felt the same amount of emotions at the end as Zoey. I really liked when she stood up for herself and used her powers. Wow! She's amazing, and I have no doubt that she'll be able to learn from her mistakes and come out fighting!

Not often do I consult the state laws concerning age of consent and statutory rape but felt the need here. I don't understand this plot line at all.
And Zoey? I'm sure her theme song is "Love The One You're With".
Every guy is either hot or cute or both. Can't there be more worthy descriptors?
Yes, we are dealing with another world but if teenagers truly act like this there is a real problem.

I really liked this book! It was written very well. I would recommend this book for anyone that likes vampyres and some mystery! P.C & Kristin Cast are really good writters! The plot is very gripping and you can make predictions about it, but you have to read on to find out if you are correct, or not. Plus you can learn things about vampyres you have never known before. READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!

This wasn't one of the worst books I have ever read, but it still was one the dumbest books I have ever read. The characters are superficial and cliched, the plot predictable and silly, and the narration is whiny and irritating. The main character and her friends are sterotypes. The writing is very childish and reads like a wet dream.
This still holds true for this book as well. And Zoey is a major Mary Sue.

Seriously, because if it is than i am in a lot of trouble. I'm just going to list all of the reasons why i think this book was horrible (plus honestly i just need to rant a little bit to get ride of some of my anger towards Zoey). *a few spoliers*
1. Zoey is so stuck up! It's like she thinks that just because she is "special" she can go around manipulating, lying, cheating and being a giant "ho", and that people are just going to put up with it.
2. I hated the whole love triangle (or is it considered a square?) thing! She just had to pick one and get on with it, but because she was to selfish and hormone crazed to do so, she ended up losing all of them. I mean how many times did she "break up" with Heath only to end up giving into bloodlust and taking it all back? And I don't know how Zoey thought the whole Loren thing was going to work out. Face it Z, teacher-student relationships never work out (unless were talking about Aria and Ezra from Pretty Little Liars! They are so cute!). The whole thing with Erik didn't even seem that great either, and he was the only one that had the slightest bit of potential.
3. Nefret wasn't even here for most of the book. The way Betrayed ended i thought this book was going to be mostly about Nefret and Zoey facing off, but no, it had to be about Zoey's pathetic "love life".
4. Everything in this book (and all the other House of Night Books) happens way too fast, which sometimes just makes it confusing and hard to follow. Chosen is only about three or four days long (in the book) but so much happens that it's just too much.
5. The typos really bugged me. Don't get me wrong, I know everybody makes mistakes and that my review has probly all ready had multiple typos too, but I just can't help but notice that stuff when i'm reading a book.
Ok so bottom line is the book sucked for me (no that wasn't a reference to vampires, or to aphrodite in book 1). The sad part is that i actually thought the series had potential during book 1. But who knows, maybe in the next book Zoey will turn her life around and correct all of the mistakes that can still be corrected. Only one way to find out...

It's not an easy path that Nyx has chosen for Zoey Redbird. Since she was Marked as a vampire by a hunter, she's had to kiss her old life good bye. What is becoming even more evident to her is Nyx's parting advice: "..darkness does not always equate to evil, just as light does not always bring good".
This sets the scene for the Cast's next foray into the House of Night series. In this third book, "Chosen", Zoey has to grapple with more personal drama-and girls, there is a biggie in this book, the calamity of her having three boyfriends! Zoey has to juggle her burgeoning Imprint with Heath, her romance with Erik and yet, she still is mysteriously drawn to hottie Professor Loren Blake-a full-fledged vampyre (who is doing some serious swoopin'). How it all ends...welllll... is the climax of the book. Things are definitely heating up for Zoey in more ways than one.
The Casts don't leave us hanging entirely-the drama continues from "Betrayed" as Zoey wrangles further with Neferet-the conclusion that she is not as she appears to be-Neferet has been controlling the remnants-blood-craving ghouls who are no longer human or vampyre. These are the students that mysteriously "died" during transformation and are being led by Zoey's former roommate; Stevie Ray and Zoey will do anything to save Stevie Ray-including hiding and lying about her existence from Shaunee, Erin, Damien and Erik. But saving Stevie Ray means going against Neferet, who is hell bent on preventing exposure.
Things get further complicated as two professors are murdered on school grounds (possibly by the People of Faith), and the House of Night calls in the big guns: The Sons of Erebus (super-hot warrior vampyres). More surprises ensue-Zoey confronts the parental units, Damien has a love interest (finally!),the crew comes into their own magickal elements and even Aphrodite doesn't seem to be the beeyotch everyone thinks she is....
The Cast's talons craft a symbolic tale steeped in mysticism, arcane vampire religion, and a riveting cast of characters that is believable enough to stand solidly on its own-two feet.
By comparison, it might not have the verve of de la Cruz's Blue Bloods, but this cast of characters are compelling enough in their own right. The series is absolutely riveting and once you cross the threshold into the House of Night, you'll find it very hard to put down.

I barely finished this book. There were many times while I was reading when I wanted to throw this book in the trash where it belongs. But I held out hoping that Zoe would show a little bit of good jugdment or self control and redeem herself but that never happened. By the end of the book I hated her more then I ever could have hated the actual villians in this story. I have no intention of reading any more about Zoe as far as I am concerned she is the most despicable person I have ever read.

This book seemed to move more quickly than the others did to me. More interesting, keeping me on the egde of my seat and wanting to tear up. I wasn't loving some of the sexual stuff that comes into play and wanted to slap Zoey sometimes but, still a very good read. I guess that the main point is to like the book, not the character. Can't wait to pick up 'Untamed'.

The books are fine, people told me better than Twilight . . . NOT. I love Twilight and everything related. These books are OK, they had a lot of potential with the whole "Vampyre Finishing School" plot.
But the audio books read by Edwina Wren are just plain ridiculous. She is so annoying! She is so breathy and you can hear her licking her lips and taking sips of water, WHAT?
I was so happy to see that books 4 and 5 are read by Jenna Lamia, MUCH better, whew . . . the series was saved with Jenna :)

I like this series, but I did have some problems with this one because I felt that the problems were repeated over and over again, and not only was it repetitive it was getting annoying. I enjoy reading these books but I had thought that Zoey's character was stronger and more mature than how she acted in the books and her friends should not have just BAILED on her, they should always stick around no matter what, they should try to understand where she is coming from and how she must feel.
But the only thing that really bothered me was the repetitiveness as I mentioned at the begining, I hope the next book isn't like that because with each one they seem to keep getting better.

I read the reviews on this book before I bought it and was really surprised at the number of people that didn't like it since the previous books were so awesome. I am even more surprised now that I have read the book because I think it complements the series extremely well. Zoey is not perfect and neither are her friends. Throughout the book I kept asking myself what would I do if I was in Zoey's shoes and I never did come up with an answer. She has to make extremely tough decisions and as such, she becomes a stronger and wiser "fledging". A reoccurring theme in the book is forgiveness so I feel that although the ending left you hanging and was more somber than the others have been, you still feel the hope of a better tomorrow for book 4.

I really liked the story line and the characters. The books are just the right length and were never boring. I cannot wait for Book 6. I love to read, but have little time so this series was perfect for me. Lent the entire series to a friend and she loved it too. I am definately going to hold onto the books for when my daughter is of age. I think she will really like them.

Chosen is the most poorly written book I've read in a long time. It's hard to believe that this was edited by anyone. Typos and grammar mistakes are on every page. The characters are paper thin with no depth or development. Zoey is shallow, whiny, and a bit of a tramp. If a guy were acting like she does, we'd call him a jerk. The illegal relationship between Zoey and her teacher is disgusting child abuse, but it's made out to be perfectly acceptable. The token homosexual characters are insulting stereotypes. The twins are so cartoonish it's hard to take any scene they're in seriously. Awful, awful book.

This saga has been quite consistent. To be honest, I fell in love with Twilight but New Moon and Eclipse broke my heart and Breaking Dawn was a painful read; I almost killed myself. This book is worse than marked, in my opinion...Zoey's friends prove to be shallow and Zoey could have portrayed more of the character that she was in the first book. The fact that she kind of involved herself with three guys just makes her a slut. She hurt a lot of people, and she knew what she was doing. I also think that she shouldn't have lied to her friends about the whole christmas situation, but they proved to be so shallow. My friends would never-in a million years-do that to me. They proved to be unrealistic and chosen took me forever to read...
I don't recommend it. After reading Marked, I didn't think that I would read the rest of the series, but I had a friend who didn't think they were so bad and happened to be a speed reader. (She read Betrayed and Chosen in a day.) So, she got me to read them saying that I would enjoy them more...didn't happen.

As I read "Marked" and "Betrayed" i was just impressed. I loved the story, the characters and everything around them. i liked how it turned out with zoey and erik. But since the first time that Loren Blake appeared, i knew that it would end of bad.
so it did. i was a bit dissapointed. i nearly cried. everytime Zoey said she has to break up with Loren and she didn't. Now this. I'm really really sorry for Erik! ;) But i do hope that in untamed, the two will have a second chance, or at least, the two will work it out to be friends.
i really can't wait until October. I'm so excited what will happen!

I started reading the first book of this series about 5 days ago and was hooked. I almost liked it more than the twilight series. I love the action and different spin P.C. Cast and her daughter take to create this amazing young adults vampire series! You all will love it if you loved the Twilight series.

In Chosen (3rd book of the house of night), Zoey must face difficult choices and risk loosing everyone she loves. Zoey is trying to do right and some how seems to end up doing the wrong thing, making her practically lose everyone. It is full of excitment and when you read the end you will be wanting the next book to see what happens next.

I found this book and series way more compelling and lovely than Twilight. It was more real, the teenagers in this story acted like true teenagers. The authors actual dealt with the "sex" issue in a way that wasn't put off or a ... but an actual this is how i'm feeling sort of way that i feel rings true with a lot of maturing women. :)

This book is by far the best of them all. Very good and an interesting turning point to the books! Great job. I would definately suggest these books to anyone who loves vampires! These books cannot be compared to anyone else because this is different than anything I have ever read before!~

Ive all ready read most of the series and im curentley working on Awakened the current newest instalment. Chosen is a great story which has jaw droping suprises which not only leave feeling bad for Zoey Redbird but also has you re thinking almost everthing you thought about the story in a fresh perspective

Horrible. Zoey can't choose between all three boys. She can't let go of Stevie Rae, everything goes terribly wrong in this book. Zoey turns slut, vampires have dark times, Zoey doesn't have any faith in her family, she turns her friends against her, and makes too many mistakes. I started skipping parts that I didn't like until I realized the book was over!!!!
Do not read. I was a fan of the House of Night novels, not anymore. bye bye bad book. meet mr. trashcan.

I wasn't so sure that I would like this book. Until I read it. I loved this book. The way the authors took a spin on the vampire. WOW! This way was so much better than any other vampire book or movie I have seen. It's so real. You could almost believe this was real life and Nicole Kidman was a vampire too.

Chosen was not a shining star in itself, but this series just keeps going downhill. It has weak, unbelievable characters, a fan fictionesce plot, and is, in a nutshell, just another teen-trash vampire novel.

I think this is the only book that i have actually couldnt stand. I kept hoping it would get better, that maybe everything i predicted would happen and shock me, but no. It was like watching a movine that you knew the entire plot to in the first 5 minutes.
And the entire thing about her sleeping with a guy like its no big deal. Im srry but if you were dating someone for years and said no to them i would think you would know better than sleeping with a guy you barely knew for two months (and was a teacher). And i cont count how many times she said she was a ho or turning into one. Hello if you dont like who your being stop it.
If you like to read books that all about self pitty, stupid plot lines, flat characters, and barely has anything to do with the previous stories then read it.
Im not even going to bother with the next one

I mean... at first the books were marginally awesome. I would have gave the others 4 stars but this one... It was horrid in so many ways. Why has Zoey done this to everyone ESPECIALLY Erik? What happened to her judgement? Now she is acting like a little love struck 11 year-old! I hope more than anythin things will be okay. Even though, she... tore up here life in one AWFUL decision. She needs to seriously sort out her problems.
I can not believe she cheated on Erik. I will keep continuing the series ONLY because of mere curiousity! I hope no offense to the writers the next one is better, and does not make Zoey look l...like a total Child.
I never ever bielived a 17 year-old judgment could be so... so... twisted. And what we younger children are suppose to look up to her. She is strange, but strong. I hope she improves EVERYTHING.
I hope now that she is almost an adult she will have MUCH better judgement toward.... . Any way Goodluck Zoey. I will always beileve in you just improve on you judgment.

I just finished reading Chosen. It is written by P.C. and Kristin Cast. It takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Chosen is about a girl battling her feelings for three different guys. She's also keeping major secrets from her friends because she fears if they know, it will put them at risk. During all of this, she's trying to find a way to fix her former best friend who recently died, but was somehow brought back to life but without a soul or humanity.
I personally loved this book, but I feel it has a very sad ending. I guess that's the way it's written out to be. I think many people who are into any kind of vampire stories and Harry Potter will be interested in this series. It's mainly targeted at teenagers and young adults, but I know many people my age and older who read them. They love them just as much as I do.
