This was mostly interesting but in some places the story seemed to drag. It's not one of those books you can't put down but I will read the next book in the series. I may wait until the price drops first

P.C. Cast does not disappoint with the first installment of her new series. Don't let the dark opening chapters deter you. Upon being introduced to the human and canine heroines, the spiritual and spirited adventure begins.

First off just wanted to say I love this book! The world and cultural building is awesome.
It is a bit slow at the beginning, but that is to be expected when you are creating a new world from an old shattered world. Also there is a bit of gore and if you are weak in the stomach then I suggest you be prepared. Stick with it and I promise you will not be disappointed.

A bit hard to get through... An overall good story, but very, very slow going until the very end. The last two hundred pages were the absolute best. A nice futuristic - dystopian, coming of age tale filled with magic. Based on the epilogue, the second book is something to look forward to. Hopefully, the story just needed time to get going and the next book with keep up the same momentum were the first left off.

I am an avid reader and am branching out into all genres. I was excited to get this book because of the author, although this is my first read from this author. I would have continued reading the book if I had more definition and description to each of the main characters. There was plenty of description but lacking for some of them. I had to reread several times to understand what was going on and this distracted me from enjoying the storyline that was developing. I think if I had a brief introduction to the characters and what type of human or creature they were, I would not have been lost.

This story begins slowly, but do yourselves a favorite - keeping read!! The various components of this new world are being laid out in the beginning forming the foundations for this exciting new trilogy. This book soon becomes a hard-to-put-down pager turner. Can't wait for book 2.

I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.

This was a slow, but enjoyable YA novel. I was greatly intrigued by the synopsis, and just had to know how the story would turn out. It took me a while to get through this book, mainly because the action only picked up after some time, and there was a big amount of information thrown at us. There was a lot of world-building, but I guess it’s to be expected with the first novel in a new fantasy series. The world was very unique, kind of a mix of different things. I didn’t like the main character too much at first, finding her immature, but she grew on me towards to end. I’m still confused about some things, and hopefully my questions will be answered in future books. Overall, it was an interesting start to a new series, and I’m quite curious about what will happen next.

In this book there is a lot of character building. It is nothing sexual in this book unlike the house of night books. There is a lot about this girl finding out who she is and trying to figure out how she should live her life. There is many twists and turns in this book. The going back and forth from different tribes can be a bit confusing at first but is really need in this book series. You find out about three main groups right off the back and a few others at the end of the story. Though there is somewhat of what seems to be a love interest in this book nothing is certain in this book to say the least.

MOON CHOSEN is the first installment in PC Cast’s young adult (YA) TALES OF THE NEW WORLD post-apocalyptic/dystopian fantasy series focusing on a new world years after ‘our’ Earth has been destroyed.

Told from several third person points of view MOON CHOSEN follows three characters with intersecting paths. Mari is our heroine-our young woman caught between Clans as she is neither an Earth Walker like her mother, or a Companion like her late father. Nik is a young man who finds himself drawn to our story line heroine; and Dead Eye, who believes himself to be a god amongst man.

MOON CHOSEN, like PC & Kristin Cast’s House of Night series, focuses on gods and goddesses, connections to the Earth, Wind, Moon and Fire, and magic that can be called forth from the elements. As the introductory story line MOON CHOSEN is an extremely long story –over 600 pages- and is awash in a copious amount of world building that focuses or is dependent upon the character development to tell the story. There is an inordinate amount of what can only be described as filler ( and redundancy) that made for a slow build to the story line premise. The author favors long descriptions and prose but in the end, sometimes too much is too much.

The numerous story line characters are divided into three main Clans and Tribes-Earth Walkers (including the Moon Woman), Skin Walkers and Tribe of the Trees (Companions) or combinations thereof, with numerous secondary traits, identities, rituals and powers. There is plenty of discrimination, prejudice and preconceived notions, and an ill-gotten history between the different clans.

PC Cast’s MOON CHOSEN can be a confusing story line as the author divides the attention between three main characters and the paths they have chosen. Most of the action takes place in the final 100 pages or so of the book.

I loved the author’s Parthelon Series (aka Divine Series); struggled with the House of Night YA series co-authored with her daughter Kristin; and have reservations about continuing on the present course with the current series. PC has a more mature writing style than Kristin and it is evident in the story line structure, text and world building but the vast amount of ‘info dumping’ is overwhelming and takes away from the story line premise-the author is building towards the second installment but tends to meander in too many directions.

The beginning is a little vague on specifics or rather too specific on the dystopian world building, but with no info to go on. It takes a while to be able to see through the maze of branches and groups of new world people, and comprehend the plot.
All I can say is, stick with it. A few chapters in it starts to make a lot more sense and becomes quite an interesting read.
Moon Chosen is set in a world after technology and long after the destruction of society as we know it now. The surviving humans have split into different groups with their own newly built structures and rules. Unfortunately they all view each other as mortal enemies. The Tree people hunt and enslave the Earth Walkers and the Skin Eaters aren’t fussy they will kill and eat anyone.
Mari is a hybrid of two groups, a fact her mother keeps well hidden, because it also means she will be accepted by neither if they discover the truth.
The book is filled with the magic pulled from natural resources, such as the sun, the moon and the earth. The only thing left to rely on when all else has dwindled to to dust and ruin.
There are some tough scenes, which put the book towards the older end of YA for me. Gang rape puts it more in the sub-genre of NA, as far as I am concerned.
The epilogue seems to introduce a further story in the series with a character who just stumbles in towards the end. The emphasis appears to be on single characters and their animal counterparts, which is a shame. I do think the story Cast has built up in Moon Chosen is vast enough to be developed further without throwing in random mate selections whether they be human or not. More dystopian world and less urban fantasy methinks.

It did not take me long to fall into this story. I found myself turning page after page into the whee hours of the morning. This story was different then anything I have read before. There were parts of this story that were weird to me because it was as if they were a completely different story. I look forward to seeing where this story goes.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This was an interesting story with a lot of near heartfelt moments between all these different characters whose paths eventually come to cross. The writing style was pretty but didn't flow as well as I'd have liked, separating my concentration between what was being said and what was going on. As a reader familiar with Cast's work, I was surprised that this didn't scream Cast. Quite a cool thing, considering that it's always great to see writers advance in their writing, but with this book, it didn't capture me. I liked the fantasy concept and at times the characters managed to make me feel something. What stopped the flow were the small moments with really intense content. Again, while interesting, I felt a little weird about it. Certainly not something I'd share with my friends. Otherwise... it was an okay read that got better in the end.

I had the privilege of reading this book before anyone else and I absolutely fell in love with it. If you want a book with fantasy and romance this is the book for you. I would recommend that you read this book.

This book was not what I had hoped it would be. There are different tribes, and this main character was from more than one genetic line. Earth Walkers, Tree Tribes, and Skin Stealers. The Companions are just kind of thrown in the mix. Mia is part Earth Walker and part Companion. Yeah, so this book is super long and well, not so good. It lacks depth, and world building and really, I didn't want to be grossed out! The cannibal part is gross, but the skin alive and suffer part is worse. You have to warn people if your going to have major tourture in a book, and this author didn't. I'm really sorry I tried to read this long, long, dull book.

My copy came from Net Galley. I left this review of my own volition, a review was not required. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

Absolutely enthralling, I could not put this book down for a second! As someone who loves mystical and beautiful fantasy novels, this was a home run. Mari is exactly the strong female protagonist I love because she's not full of herself or perfect. She has very real weaknesses and fears and I love seeing a character that is flawed. Nik is also wonderful, I found myself slowly liking him more and more as the book went on. All in all, this book is at least worth a try!

This is my first audiobook and i must admit that it’s a bit harder to listen then to read. I feel like I can gather a better imagination when I read them then when I hear them. I gave it a three only because I kept getting lost.

Pc Cast is one of my favorite authors! This series is great, reminds me of some of Amelia Atwater-Rhodes YA fiction. Almost done with the second book in the series and cannot wait for the next one to come out!

I really like these books. They’re veery interesting and I enjoy the concept of this alternate world and it’s peoples. I’m a big fan of the House of Night books and have read many of her books. This new tale has left me hanging and I cannot wait for the next adventure.

While the writing and story are fine if a little slow, I couldn't help but be bothered with how the mixed blood (half white) main character kept being described as having delicate features with a petite pointed nose and "sun-colored hair," while the earth walker's are described as "flat-featured...plain...and unrefined with dark hair". There just seems to be a bias throughout when it comes to how physical features are described that bothered me enough to want to stop reading the book even though I eventually finished it since I had already bought it. However, I won't be buying the sequel.

I've never read a Cast book before, so I was unfamiliar with her story telling. It was a little drawn out and back and forth between 3 different story lines. Not sure I even liked the main male character until the end. Not sure if I'll continue the series. Probably not.

I really could not stand all the characters or the plot of this book. It had no depth to the characters or plot. Everything from the world to the characters felt very shallow and provided no explanations. I felt like I was reading (or watching) a cheesy day time drama. Storyline: Girl is different because she is a mix breed she believes she doesnt have powers turns out she does. She gets a wolf pup, mother dies, meets a guy from a different race falls in love instantly because he also knows what it feels to be different. They team up to try to save people, bad guy pops up suddenly out of nowhere, they run away.... to sell another lame book in a lame series. the end.

Not going to write a full review. Just going to say the book drags. Does a lot so seemingly useless things and the writing is very mediocre. Wanted to enjoy the premise but couldn't get pass the childish writing.

I got this book from the library. Young adult fiction. I made it to page 83 before I had to stop after reading of a deer being skinned alive and left to die in pain, and later on page 83 the story of how the same thing was done to humans. Apparently after some catastrophe there are mutant humans that cannot live unless they steal living skin from other humans or animals. And then they leave them to die partially skinned. They dont
even feel enough to put them out of their misery.
OK who in their tight mind wants to infect the human (young adult) consciousness with these images? It is exactly not what to do in a world that already has so much misery. It is a pandemic meme of cruelty that sells. And why does it sell? Why? Because it appeals to the ever sicker psychology that is being encouraged in the society. Did you ever ask what the end of this story might be? I don't care how uplifting the end of the final battle might have been in the book. There should have been no battle in the first place. Is this the only way the human race can figure out how to fix things? And to have a female writing it is worse. It is a proven fact the when women are 1/3 of a governmental ruling body, the amount of money devoted to war making is reduced by half, and the money is then used to nurture the population, especially the children. These are the actions of a sane species. Please consider that whatever gets into your brain has an affect on your psyche and what you will eventually think is acceptable. Encouraging, nurturing, kind,,,, these plots can have excitement as well. They just need to be imagined. If they are not, all we have is destruction to think about and this will be what we get. If you think it often enough, it happens. Thought is power.

Moon Chosen was a bid disappointment. This book is full of animal torture and cannibalism, not subjects that young minds need to read on.One of the main tribes live on live skinning its victims and sucking their energy so keeps them alive as long as possible. Surely in todays violent world we do not need to add to the chaos.
