This book should not have been published. I read the first book in the series, Slave to Sensation, and it was interesting. However, this book is a waste of time. It is pretty much the first book re-written with different character names. There is no development from the first book to the second. It was so boring that I only read a third of the book and couldn't even stomach the rest. I definitely do not recommend this book - even if someone gives it to you for free!

5 Stars!

VISIONS OF HEAT is the exciting second installment to the Psy-Changeling series!

I absolutely enjoyed delving deeper into this complex world of emotionless, robotic Psy and exceptionally diverse changeling clans—animal shapeshifters.

Faith NightStar is a strong F-Psy (foreseer) that’s been caged and heavily monitored all her life. She’s been conditioned to foresee business trends in order to make companies, and her PsyClan, very, very wealthy. But when visions of a cold-blooded killer start to invade her vision, she worries that her mind is cracking, giving way to madness and insanity that often affects F-Psys. In order to find answers for her mind break, she journeys deep into the heart of DarkRiver territory to find Sacha, the one Psy that’s not connected to PsyNet—a mental World Wide Web where information is stored and all of the Psy race’s minds and life forces are connected. As she breaches the boundaries, she’s stopped by a very powerful and very angry jaguar. And thus begins a thrilling and deadly story full of danger and passion and betrayal and heartache. And of redemption.

Faith is a powerful heroine, fighting and internal battle within herself as well as an external battle with a possessive and stubborn jaguar. Vaughn is an extremely angry and aggressive feline changeling, adopted into the DarkRiver leopard pack many years ago. He’s more cat than man and rough around the edges, but is fiercely loyal and honor bound to his clan and to the fiery red-headed Psy that’s captured his cat’s interest. Their coupling was an exercise in patience.

There are also some great scenes with the DarkRiver packmates as well as some surprises with a few unusual characters in the story! I’m really looking forward to the next book!

I read VISIONS OF HEAT for the first time in 2012 but couldn’t really appreciate the nuances of the story and of the complexities of the Psy parts of the book. After rereading the story, I’m able to appreciate it so much more and pen my thoughts more adequately.

I whole-heartedly recommend this and any book by Nalini Singh! Her storytelling is exquisite!

Blood dripped down pale green walls, soaked into the slightly darker carpet, splattered the comm console. A charnel house she could smell—hints of putrid death hidden in the iron-rich taint of blood. Revolted, she could do nothing as he walked farther into the room, placing his feet in the dark red liquid that had once run in a living being’s veins. The blood in the bathroom had had nothing to soak into. His feet slapped into it with a splash.

This is the second book I've read in the series and while its about shapeshifters, a sub-genre I'm not usually about, I can't deny the certain je n'ais se quoi about it. However, I also can't deny that I'm pretty sure there is a solid 30-40% that I don't understand, lol. The PsyNet where all the Psy minds are connected, along with the Web of Stars and now the addition of a separate Being that is the PsyNet??? I'm hanging on my fingernails on this wild ride.

Taking out for a second the sci-fi paranormal stuff I don't always fully get, the world and wide cast of characters are infinitely fascinating, I'm curious about all of them. The serial killer mystery here wasn't explained fully to my satisfaction and for being an important catalyst for our heroine, it was kind of ignored. While the relationship between the hero and heroine was sexily satisfying, I'm not sure I felt the emotional build up; they had chemistry but didn't emotionally draw me in beyond that.

I'll definitely be reading on in the series as the next book looks to be about Judd, the dark Arrow Assassin.

‘Visions of Heat’ is book 2 in Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling Series. Once again Nalini doesn’t disappoint. Nalini is the QUEEN of Paranormal/Fantasy writing. I love, love, love reading this series. I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know a little more about Vaughn.

Spoilers below...

Faith NightStar is a F-Psy, someone that has the ability to see the future. Faith has always been alone and isolated, afraid to have any connection with anyone in case she is over stimulated and has a seizure and ends up like a potato. She is worth billions, helping out business predict the best option. But she starts having dark visions of death, and of a Jaguar staring at her.

Vaughn D’Angelo is a Jaguar Changeling and one of Lucas Sentinels. Lucas has always felt as a lone outcast, even though he and Lucas are very close friends and a sentinel being alone has what he’s beast has always wanted. Until he has this pull to a guarded Psy compound and a certain red head Psy.

Will Vaughn be able to protect Faith from this dark presence or will it overcome her? All I can say is read the book and find out, you won’t be disappointed.

More Psy and Changling romance between a foretelling psy and a DarkRiver Pack Jaguar. A murderer on the hunt, a lonely Jaguar who never thought to have a mate, a psy coming into her own, psy political intrigue, and a forbidden romance drew me in and kept me captivated from beginning to end.

Faith Nightstar is a powerful foretelling psy. Her type of psy are considered fragile and unstable, but oh so valuable for making money with their forecastings so she is kept isolated and under tight observation. With the encroachment into her mind of a dark evil and powerful visions of death and torture she slowly comes to life, terrified the other psy will notice that she is cracking and cage her. She desperately needs to find a way to control the emerging visions so goes to the only psy she can trust not to turn her in to the Council, the rogue Sascha Duncan. Approaching Sascha means entering the Dark River Pack of changlings' territory and there she encounters Vaughn, the only jaguar in the pack.

Vaughn doesn't know why he is drawn to the well-guarded psy compound near Tahoe or the female psy who shocks them all by approaching Sascha. His gut tells him Faith is honest and truly needs help, but his head counsels caution. Even if she is honest, her mind is attached to the psy collective. He hates to see her struggling with basic things like interaction and contact with others. He knows she is stronger than she thinks and his cat wants her. He also knows that she must hunt down the killer she has foreseen and he will be right there with her. But at the end of the day, Faith has a fragile mind and needs the mental connections with her race and is also being offered the opportunity for advancement by the Council.

The attraction and advancement of the relationship between Faith and Vaughn is front and foremost, but there was also their connection over his need to heal from the losses of his past and her need to work through all the secrets and lies she was taught and whether she can take a leap of faith.

The background intrigue of the murderer and all the rumblings within the psy network added a deep layer to add tension and excitement. I enjoyed the new reveals about Faith's type of psy as well as the ongoing build up of trouble in the council and race.

The series continues to amaze and I am eager to press forward.

Faith NightStar is a cardinal F-Psy, able to see the future. Her visions are one of the most accurate in the world, and her value is priced dearly at many billions. When she escapes her isolated home in search of Sascha Duncan, the only known Psy to have ever escaped the PsyNet, she instead finds Vaughn D'Angelo, a jaguar changeling with his allegiance sworn to DarkRiver.

In Visions of Heat Faith and Vaughn's story takes the centre stage, but Sascha and Lucas are also a major part of the story. This development enables other romances and keeps it interesting. Faith's story is quite different from Sascha's which I liked because it showed the originality of the series. In this book Nalini Singh explores the F-Psy and the consequences of Silence in yet another brilliantly written novel. The plot twists weren't as easy to predict, though mystery wasn't as prominent a part of the story and I thought it was solved a little too easily. Faith's romance with Vaughn worked differently as well, with the similar themes of "I don't want you to die trying to save me", "you're mine", etc which I found slightly repetitive, but perhaps necessary.

One of the things I liked the most about this book is Faith's communication with the PsyNet NetMind. In Slave to Sensation, Sascha was always trying to avoid getting detected by it, which Faith is talking to it and we get a better understanding of how it functions and its thought process. The communication through images is another obstacle they much overcome to achieve the result.

I have an addiction to the author's dual third person perspectives. Something about them makes me love reading the books in this series so much. The emotional side of it affects me as well, but not as much as some other books. Visions of Heat gave us more background and discoveries about the basis of the Psy world, however the storyline didn't move forward as much; I suppose there must be a balance. Something about the book made me enjoy it more than Slave to Sensation, making it easier to write this review and earning it an extra half star.

Visions of Heat by Nalini Singh is the second book in the much acclaimed Psy-Changeling series that features two major races namely, Psy and Changeling.

Having absolutely adored the first book, Slave to Sensation, I delved into this one right after I finished the first book and just could not keep it down until I had read it!

I have enjoyed reading this series so much that I read all fourteen books in this series twice before I could get down to writing this review because I just could not stop to write a review, I was so curious to know what happened next!

This book features the story of Faith Nightstar who is a F-Psy capable of seeing the future and Vaughn D'Angelo, a Jaguar shifter of the Changeling race. Both come together when Faith, troubled with blood soaking visions and fearing for her sanity, comes seeking the assistance of Sascha Duncan, a defected Psy living with the Changelings. This is a tightly executed and expertly narrated story that has intense emotional play, a scorching hot romance and a plot that managed to keep me at the edge of my seat throughout.

I enjoyed meeting Sascha and Lucas again in this book and loved Faith and Vaughn. Both are poles apart in their nature and yet so suited for each other. The clash between the Psy and Changeling views on life and morality are so beautifully brought out by the author. The story is fast paced and there is a sense of excitement, danger and adventure all through with plenty of suspense and anticipation that makes this book and the series a must read and one which can be read again and again.

The world building is superb and everything seems so realistic that it had me forgetting that their are no Psy in real life!

Not being a fan of shifter romances, I am pleasantly surprised by this book and series that has not only proven the prowess of the author but also made me a huge fan of her.

All in all, Visions of Heat is a must read and I cant recommend it enough to all the readers above the age of eighteen. 4.5 out of 5 to it from my side, go buy and read this book and this series from Nalini Singh. I have already read it twice and its spell binding narration and interest arousing capability still amazes me.

(RabidReads.com)I listened to the first book in the Psy-Changelings Series a few months ago and really loved it. I enjoyed the narrator, Angela Dawe as well. So when I saw this one on Audible I bought it, but have just now gotten back into this captivating world that Nalini Singh has built.

The first book, Slave to Sensation, introduced us to both the Psy world and the Changeling world as well. Both worlds are very different and were never meant to merge in any way, except maybe in a business way as Psy’s are all about business. In that story, we met Sasha, a Psy, and Lucas, a leopard shifter and alpha of his pack. When they meet and fall in love, everything changes, especially in the Changeling world. Psy’s are emotionless beings that live a barren and secretive life, one with nothing, except the money they make for the Psy world. Changelings live much more primitively, surrounding themselves with the forests, and protecting their territory from any invaders. I say primitively, but they are still smart business people and have made a nice living for their pack. They also are very loving to their pack(and yes, they call it pack) and are very touchy feely. The exact opposite of the Psy’s. We were also introduced to the other members of the pack, and Vaughn is part of the pack, even though he is a jaguar, as he was adopted by them when he was ten.

Vaughn is a bit different from the leopards that he considers family. He is more dangerous, more almost feral, and works as an enforcer for the pack. When he realizes that he can tell there is a Psy living in a complex close to his territory, something makes him want to know more about her. Meanwhile, Faith lives in a complex, isolated, and guarded at all times. The whole complex is all about her, because she is an F-Psy-one that can predict the future. Because of this, she is worth millions, maybe billions, to the Psy, as she predicts business success and failure, the market, and anything else she can predict that will line the pockets of the Psy race. When her sister, a telepath, is murdered, Faith begins seeing visions that the murderer wants her to see-her sister’s death, his next victims, and the murder scenes. Once Vaughn and Faith do meet, Vaughn’s jaguar wants Faith pretty much immediately. Faith has never been around people except the occasional visit from her father or the guards. Vaughn is a breath of fresh air to her, but she also is so fragile that too much strong emotion could actually cause her to go insane. So for those that enjoy a book that takes awhile to get to the sexy times, this could be a good listen for you. Of course that does change.

This is my first stab at reviewing an audio book, and I must say the narrator, Angela Dawe, was good in both books for me. I read reviews that didn’t like her for book one, but loved her for book two, or even liked her for this one and not for the first one. I am probably not as savvy about the narrators of the books I have listened to, as a lot of reviewers are, but I thought she did a good job. It comes down to personal taste I think.

With this book we get a romance, a murder mystery, and world building that is nothing short of amazing. Ms. Singh has carefully constructed the world of both the Psy and the Changeling and I was fascinated by all of it. I recommend this to paranormal romance fans that enjoy a complex world as well as the romance. I have already purchased the next five books in the series, so yes I will be continuing it. Good read!

Visions of Heat is Book 2 in Nalini Singhs Psy-Changeling series.

Faith NightStarm is a powerful F-Psy with the highly sought after ability to predict the future, but when she begins to have visions of blood and murder, she fears that her descent into insanity is beginning. Then her visions turn even more dangerous when she starts to see desire, need and pleasure in her future. But her fragile state of mind means that the emotions she yearns for may also mean her end.

Vaughan D'Angelo is a jaguar Changeling who's animal side keeps drawing him back towards the pretty redhaired Psy in a fully lockdowned compound. His curiosity gets the better of him when his animal instincts finds Faith fascinating and hungers to claim her. However his desires may mean the end of Faiths sanity if they aren't careful and with Faih in danger of people wanting her for their own ends, is Vaughan enough to save her?

Ahh Vaughan. How I loved Vaughan. And I loved Vaughan and Faith together.
Nalini has the ability of diversifying all her characters and giving them their own strengths and weaknesses and sill manages to create the couples perfect fits for each other.

I loved getting to know more of the Psy world and can't wait to see even more as the series continues.

I tore through the first book in this series but I savored this one a bit more. Listening to the audio as I did other work, I tried to force myself to take it slower but it was hard.

The narrator in this on adds to the story. Her voice feels like it's a part of it all. For me, a narrator can make or break a story. This one made it better.

Faith draws the changeling jaguar Vaughn even before she meets him. The cat's not sure why he's so interested in the secluded and heavily guarded compound but he watches and when a beautiful redhead psy sneaks out he pounces.

These two are almost complete opposites. Vaughn feels deeply and is driven by instinct and a powerful body. Faith is a rare and valuable F-Psy who relies on her mind but can't handle the sensation of touch. As Vaughn follows his instincts and Faith puzzles things out with her mind, these two grow close.

And the sexy? Yeah, there's a lot of that. Vaughn is driven by touch. He teaches Faith about it slowly and it ruptures into some pretty hot moments between these two.

I love this world. So much depth. The mix of humans, changelings and psy make the dynamics complex and dynamic. The two extremes of instinct driven and unfeeling with the human in the middle sets up lots of parallel situation to today's world. I enjoy that.

I love all the characters. It was great seeing Sascha and Lucas, who were the focus of book one, again. There are so many great secondary characters that will step up to have their own story. The author gives us bits and pieces that get me excited to read them. I look forward to Hawke, the leader of the wolves. Dorian's story is going to be great too. This was the first time I noticed Judd much and I'm a bit nervous but intrigued to read his story.

Took long enough to find this series but I'm onboard and excited to plow through so many books that I'm sure I will love. The hunger for good paranormal is strong and this is one satisfying series.

If you haven't started this series and you love paranormal with a heavy side of romance, then this series is the one for you.

Nalini Singh is becoming one of my favorite authors. She's just too good! I'm not fond of series with different major characters, so I thought I wouldn't like this book, because it's not anymore about Sascha and Lucas! Oh well, I was wrong. I even adore Faith more than Sascha! Too early for me to say, but I'm beginning to think that Nalini Singh may be just the queen of PNR. The layering of world building that happens in each series is great too as details are added in each series. And I'm reading now the third book for this! My goodness, the author can make you fall in love with the characters! I can't believe that after a few scenes, I'm falling in love with the MC on the third book, which is Judd, a Psy!

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Heidi

visions-of-heat-psy-changeling-nalini-singhFaith NightStar is one of the emotionless Psy’s hottest commodities. Born as an F-Psy (Foreseer) she has been kept isolated from the rest of her race to protect her mind, but is heavily monitored. Faith sees visions of the future and businesses pay the Psy for her predictions, making her worth billions. Most of the F designation of Psy go insane by the time they’re in their fifties, and many long before then. So when emotion starts clouding her judgment, Faith assumes that the degradation of her mind has begun.

Vaughn was abandoned by his parents at the age of ten, but was adopted into the DarkRiver pack upon his discovery, making him the only jaguar changeling in a pack of leopards, leaving him to always feel a little different. He stayed in jaguar form from the time he was abandoned until after he felt comfortable with his new pack, making his beast a little closer to the surface in his human form than most Changelings, causing him to seem a bit more feral and volatile than the others.

While Faith is contemplating her role in the society of her race and deciding to seek out Sascha Duncan, the only known Psy to leave the PsyNet and survive, Vaughn is being drawn to the compound where she is ‘caged’ for reasons unknown to him. So when Vaughn sees Faith escape he pounces (literally) at the chance, changing both of their lives forever.

I enjoyed this book, but found the romance to be so similar to Slave to Sensation, that I had a bit of déjà vu. The cold emotionless Psy thinking they are losing their ability and mind while being warmed by the heat of the Changeling lifestyle and learning to not only feel, but love. A love so strong that it can sustain their life away from the PsyNet. Meanwhile, that very Psy taming the wildness in her Changeling mate. It’s a sweet story, but I feel a bit cheated in the fact that it was a repeat of the previous story, just different characters. I hope that the remainder of the series will not be more of the same and that Singh will give us more variety, such as romances within the pack or ones between the leopards and wolves in future installments.

With that said, the story was well written and was another fast easy read that I devoured and it even drifted into my own dreams, not that I can remember exactly what happened in those visits to dreamland expect I was definitely immersed in the Changeling world. For a story to be absorbed so fully that it affects me even in unconsciousness, I give Singh props, as not many worlds can affect me so fully, but there have definitely been some others *cough* Black Dagger Brotherhood *cough*, but is still an amazing accomplishment when that happens.

I always loved checking out the BIG CATS when we go to the zoo, but after this series, I’m not sure I will ever look at them the same again.

“How do you know it’ll be pleasurable?” He got on the bed and lay down.

Breath a whisper, she came closer and tied one wrist to the headboard. The cat growled but didn’t try to make him wrench free.

“Because just looking at you gives me the most extreme pleasure I’ve ever felt.”

“Christ, baby, tie me up before you start talking like that.”

Faith Nightstar is an F-Psy. She can foretell the future. As well as being part of the PsyNet, she belongs to the Nightstar family, who protect her. However, despite being one of Psy’s biggest earners due to her forecasting, cossetted and primped like a rock star, Faith is a prisoner in her lofty apartment on the edge of a forest; a forest in which damaged panther, Vaughn D’Angelo, roams.

At the same time that Vaughn senses Faith’s presence in a Rapunzel-like locked-up tower, Faith yearns to break free. You see she is being haunted by visions of a dark murdering shadow that killed her little-known sister, Maxine. Either Faith has to unearth the killer or she will be his next victim. Although family has little sway in the Psy world, Faith knows her father and of her sister, and this is enough to motivate her to protect her own.

Vaughn is an oddity, a panther adopted into a leopard Changeling tribe, welcomed and belonging, yet always carrying the scars of his family’s annihilation when he was young.

The two damaged souls recognise kindred spirits and together set out to vanquish the dark threat. I found Vaughn’s behaviour slightly intrusive and stalker-like. How Faith moved from feeling physically ill by his contact to welcoming it was not smoothly explained.

Nalini Singh has created an original world. Sometimes however, the descriptions of the PsyMind and the PsyNet are too complicated and unrealistic to belong in an otherwise compact world. How Humans evolved into the mind-reading Psy defies the imagination, and how Psy can download large files into their memory for complete retrieval later speaks of huge memory banks that defy understanding. There is a collective consciousness like Jung theorised that is kind and loving – is this God or is it a sentient worldwide web? Interesting but confusing. However, there is heart in this book and in the world Nalini has created. There is also raunchy lovemaking.

This is the second book in the "Psy-Changelings" series and the story of Jaguar, Vaughn D'Angelo and F-Psy, Faith NightStar.

Faith is a Cardinal F-Psy (forseer) who has been trained since she was 3 years old to channel her predictions for business only and silencing all emotions. She starts having visions of murders and this evil being committing this crimes keeps coming back. She thinks she's going crazy like so many others before her from her same designation but when her sister is the one who's murdered Faith starts questioning everything in her life in the PsyNet. The only one who can give her answers is Sascha, another Cardinal Psy who recently deflected the PsyNet and is now living with her mate in DarkRiver territory. Will she be able to reach her or will the Jaguars kill her before she gets far enough? That's a chance she'll have to take.

Vaughn is a loner and more beast than man but he likes it that way. He's curious about a Psy that's living in their territory and is heavily guarded. And just when he decides to go find out his prey comes walking out right to him. When this woman tells him she wants to see Sascha he's on high alert, she's Psy and they don't trust them. But when they finally let them meet it all starts to come clear. While he can't stand Psy hee finds himself not just attracted but pulled by this woman. He's suddenly possessive and protective with her. And while he knows she's his mate he can't force her to choose. Faith is scared, she's had a life of being caged and what Vaughn is offering is very tempting. He'll give her everything she's ever wanted and everything she'll ever need... if only she'll let him.

This story was as good as the last. The series just keeps getting better. I can't wait to get immersed in the next book of the series.

The exciting and unparalleled world of the Psy-Changeling continues to grow in Visions of Heat, the second book of the series. The Psy Council are rushing to neutralize the effects of Sascha's defection and secure Silence while also scheming to lessen the Changeling's power.

Faith NightStar is a Psy; cold, emotionless beings logical to the core. Faith isn't just any Psy though, she is a Cardinal F-Psy and in high demand for her foreseeing abilities. But she is also isolated because of those same abilities and on the verge of madness. The dark and bloody visions she has begun to experience are pushing her that much closer to the edge but Faith knows that she has to find the reason behind them before someone else dies. She can't go to her own kind for help though without facing the dangers of rehabilitation, a fate worse then death. So Faith steps into the dark forests of the DarkRiver leopard pack, 'knowing' that she needs them to find the answers she's seeking. What she didn't expect though was her abilities leading her to someone that could either save her or break her completely.

Because the Psy are so emotionless, I've found it's harder for me to warm up to their characters. But Nalini Singh is an expert at character development and Faith NightStar is a prime example of her talents. Faith begins cold but determined, she didn't even realize what was driving her to find the answers she seeked at first, but slowly her layers are peeled away and we see a vulnerability to her that tugs at your heart. Even when Vaughn turns her world upside down and then sideways you can empathize with her confusion and denial...and her attraction.

Changeling Vaughn D'Angelo, is a jaguar and respected Sentinel in the DarkRiver leopard pack. He didn't really stand out to me in the first book so I was surprised that his story was next. Vaughn's animal is closer to the surface then most other Changelings which causes him to be a bit...growly at times. ☺ He has a cat's curiosity about Faith even before he see's her, but once he does that curiosity turns into an obsession that he can't break. Despite the man being less then pleased to be around a cold Psy, his cat hungers for her like no other. He's pushy and dominant, but he also see's Faith's limits and turns into someone that she can lean on and someone who can anchor her to the present when she is in danger of getting lost in the future.

These two fit well. Vaughn has a past that haunts him and Faith has a future that terrifies her. But they must walk a tight line to a happily-ever-after because of Faith's 'conditioning'. And there are many that would kill for control over her abilities. Together, they were sweet and sexy and when they finally got down to business my kindle was smoking.

BUT.....Though I really enjoyed Faith and Vaughn's story, it read too much like the first book in the series for me to be completely enraptured in it. Lucas and Vaughn both had a tragic past while Sasha and Faith are both powerful Cardinal Psy with 'faults' that must escape the council while stopping a killer.

Despite that, Psy-Changeling is the most unique shifter series you will ever read! Full of action, intrigue and passion with superb writing and a story that comes to life on the pages. I can't wait to devour more of this series and find out what the Psy have in story for the Changelings next!

4 stars

This was a very good story. I really liked Vaughn and Faith and enjoyed their story. This was a good addition to the series and built the series storyline nicely.

Faith is a very strong F-Psy, which means that she can see the future. She's made much money for her clan (roughly a large family group within the Psy ranks) doing her forecasts that have been coming forth since she was 3 years old. Because of her abilities she's been secluded from most everyone except instructors when she was younger and M-Psy (medical Psy) and guards now. She is constantly reminded of how delicate and prone to madness the F-Psy are which just encourages (more like pushes her in to) her solitude.

Vaughn is a Jaguar Changeling (shifter) that is an enforcer for the Alpha of his pack (Lucas from book #1 Slave to Sensation). Vaughn had a tough childhood and feels partially responsible for his little sister's death so he's held on to a lot of anger about that. He's made a good life for himself and never thought to take a mate as he tends to be a loner to a certain extent. Vaughn doesn't realize anything's missing from his life but that soon changes.

Vaughn is on a run in Jaguar form when he comes across a highly guarded house close to his clan's territory. He checks it out and figures out a Psy lives there which is really weird since Psys usually don't like living in the wilderness. Ends up the reason for this is because Faith lives there and F-Psy tend to prefer to live away from others due to their "delicate mental state". Faith is seeking escape from the compound though. She usually forcasts business predictions that she's paid a lot of money for and she's very accurate in her predictions. Recently though she's been having other visions and not about the business interests she's supposed to be concentrating on. Faith has started to see visions of murder and when her sister is killed she realizes that it was her murder she'd been seeing. Faith wants to stop her changing gift but is afraid if she tells another Psy, they would report her issues. If she was reported she probably wouldn't be subjected to a mind wipe like most Psy because they wouldn't want to wipe her gifts but they might decide to do other things to her that she wouldn't like. Faith decides to escape her house and try to find Sascha (the heroine from Slave to Sensation) who is the only Psy known to have escaped the web without dying. She escapes out of her house and past the guards heading for the Leopard's territory, not realizing that Vaughn is waiting outside and decides to see what she's up to when he sees where she's heading.

Vaughn and Faith meet up and see gets the message across that she wants to talk to Sascha. He isn't sure whether to trust her or not but with some precautions Faith is able to meet and talk to Sascha. This doesn't exactly bring the results she wants as she finds out that Sascha can't help her supress her new powers and she also finds out a lot of info about the Psys and the lies they're raised with and how they're used and manipulated. She doesn't want to believe what she's hearing but there are things that she just can't ignore. While she's learning all this, Vaughn is curious about her and wants her. He pushes her, touching her and staying close to try to get her accustomed to his touch and nearness. Faith is attracted to Vaughn but part of her conditioning has been to feel pain/overload at touch so him being close isn't easy for her but she slowly begins to acclimate herself to being touched (at least by Vaughn). Faith ends up going back to her house but there are visits back and forth and the feelings between Faith and Vaughn grow. Vaughn decides she's his and doesn't hesitate to encourage her to leave the Psy for good and come to be with him but it's not so easy for Faith. She has the chance to become one of the Psy counsel but yet the more she learns about the hidden dealings of the powerful Psy, the less she wants to be part of them ruling power and have to do horrible things for cold and often mercenary reasons. Faith finds that when Vaughn isn't around she misses him. She doesn't like the idea of leaving the Psy but can't help but lean more that way as things progress. She's determined to find the bad guy that's sending her the evil visions and makes some progress with that and avenges her sister (although the conclusion on that part of the story was a little strange and seems to be something that might pop up again in the future). After a lot of drama, Faith and Vaughn do work things out, becoming mates and starting their HEA.

I found this story to be very enjoyable. I liked both Vaughn and Faith and their story was pretty interesting. I liked how their relationship came together and I especially liked how Faith was able to gain her freedom and how things went with her father in the end. I'm liking the lines that the story is taking. Some things are resolved in this story but there are some points of interest that are part of the developing series storyline and I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress. I'm planning to read the next book in the series right away because I can't wait to see where the things go now. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up. :D

* note - I listened to the audio version of this and the narrator did a good job on it.

Used to cold silence, Faith NightStar is suddenly being tormented by dark visions of blood and murder. A bad sign for anyone, but worse for Faith, an F-Psy with the highly sought after ability to predict the future. Changeling Vaughn D'Angelo can take the form of either man or jaguar, but it is his animal side that is overwhelmingly drawn to Faith. Will they find the murderer whose visions are tormenting Faith and will Vaughn be able to break through Faith’s defenses?

The Good
Faith and Vaughn - not the couple I expected but I was very glad to read. Faith is much more reserved than Sascha in many ways, as she’s used Silence to help her deal with the mental breakdowns F-Psy are known for. Vaughn is more animal and his growly alpha hero bit is right in my wheelhouse. Beyond that, this fantastical world that Ms. Singh created in Slave to Sensation, grows and expands with each book, and the build to the ultimate battle between the Psy and the Changelings is exciting enough to keep me turning the page, well after I should have gone to bed.

The Could Have Been Better
The murderer reveal is a bit anticlimactic and feels like an afterthought to the overall plot.

The Bottom Line
Not disappointed in the least with this entry, I really enjoyed Faith and Vaughn’s love story and this series is shaping up to be pretty epic. Diving straight into the next book.

Embracing the future is the toughest thing a foreseer can do. Faith Nightstar is a very powerful foresight talent within the Psy people. She lives in near total isolation to contain the known instability of her abilities. After all, everyone knows foreseers eventually go mad. She never counted on seeing murders and dark deeds in her mind. Worried she’s going insane early; Faith seeks out the only Psy she thinks can help – Sascha Duncan. But Sascha is part of the changeling leopard group and they hate the Psy. A powerful lieutenant, Vaughn D’Angelo, may be attracted to Faith but he’s determined not to let any Psy harm his people. A delicate balance of trust and need are necessary as they hunt down a serial killer.

Visions of Heat is the second book in the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh. Although you could read this one on it’s own, I’d recommend reading the series in order to fully appreciate the various relationships and connections. Not to mention all the background and world building. The second book builds on the foundation and information offered in the first book. That said, I read the books back-to-back and I was definitely more annoyed with this book because of that. The two books are so similar it set my teeth on edge. Some readers definitely look for a familiar and comfortable formula with books and they may love that the second book so closely resembles with the first with a few obvious differences. For me, this hurt my enjoyment.

The book simply feels like a carbon copy of the first story. Here the gorgeous, but fragile Psy is Faith and her dominant, overbearing, highly sexual mate is Vaughn, a jaguar in a leopard clan. The two are immediately attracted to each other but must overcome the changeling’s hatred of all things Psy and Faith’s emotions slowly emerging. At the same time, there is yet another Psy serial killer that they must stop and Faith (of course) has a unique connection to the murders. These elements aren’t bad on their own and even together they can still make for an entertaining erotic romance for the right reader. I found myself frustrated by the obvious similarities when I wanted something more unique to each couple.

The writing is decent though I find it at times overly melodramatic and hyperbolic. There are also many overused phrases such as “nightsky eyes.” I wish the author had come up with a different descriptor, especially since the same phrase was definitely overused in the first book too. Here reading one book so close to the other easily affected my view and enjoyment of them both. I also got frustrated with the continual painting of the entire Psy clan as evil and wrong. There is no nuance or subtly to the characters, they’re very one dimensional and good or bad. There’s no in between.

What I did like about the book was its ease. I listened to it, rather than reading it, and found the narrator had a pleasant voice and was easy to listen to. The story was engaging enough to keep my attention but not complicated or intricate to need a lot of effort. There are a lot of sex scenes and a main focus of the story is the erotic romance. Faith slowly experiences an awakening of her emotions and needs – all Psy are virgins of course, but never have a bad first time – and Vaughn is the romantic jaguar that loves her to a ridiculous amount and will never let her go. The serial killer subplot keeps the players moving around and the book progressing forward while giving more insight into the secondary characters that will eventually have their own books.

While I didn’t love either this one or the first one in the series, it’s an easy series to read/listen to. It’s not great for me and it’s one I’ll need a lot of space between books to appreciate it more but it has the elements of popular series. It has a ton of romance and sex and those are the main focus with an action subplot to keep things interesting. I’d recommend it for fans that like more formula books and series.

Faith is a rare F-Psy, someone with the ability to see the future, her visions have used to predict the stock market since she was only 3 years old which has made the NightStar Clan very wealthy. Recently her visions have taken a darker turn and she seems to have become psychically linked with a murderer seeing nothing but death and destruction. She knows that she is on the verge of madness and that if the Psy Council find out she will end up institutionalised because her skills are too valuable for her mind to be wiped. Faith has no choice but to trust in the visions she sees of Vaughn, a sexy jaguar who is a member of the DarkRiver pack, who she is sure can help her track down the murderer and prevent more deaths. Vaughn's instincts tell him that Faith belongs to him but every touch brings her closer to an emotional overload that could send her over the edge. Vaughn trusts his instincts though and is determined to find a way to break through Faith's emotional barriers and convince her to take a chance on a future with him.

Visions of Heat is the second instalment to the Psy-Changeling series allows us to find out even more about the different Psy abilities and the world that Nalini Singh has created. As much as I love the Guild Hunter series I've always been fascinated by different psychic powers and I'm really enjoying learning more about the Psy. The way they have trained themselves to block out any emotions makes them come across as an incredibly cold race, they don't seem to care about anyone or anything and use logic to make their decisions. Faith has been even more sheltered than most Psy, her abilities are incredibly powerful but they make her more vulnerable to emotional overload than most other Psy. She has spent most of her life alone and has rarely had any form of physical contact with anyone apart from for medical reasons. Her horror over the visions she is seeing has caused her to seek help from Vaughn and the DarkRiver pack, she knows that Sascha is no longer part of the Psy-Net and believes that she is the only person who can help her retain her sanity.

Vaughn is the only jaguar amongst the leopards of the DarkRiver pack but they are his family and he will do anything to protect them. He is initially wary of Faith and worries that she could bring trouble do their door but there is something about her that calls to his jaguar side and he is unable to resist her. His animal instincts crave the comfort of touching her but he has to be careful not to overload her senses. I love the way Vaughn is constantly pushing Faith's boundaries, he keeps taking her to the edge but he knows better than she does what she is capable of and although he pushes her further than she thinks she can go he never takes things too far. Vaughn is a sexy alpha who is more in touch with his animal side than his human one and he certainly ticked all my favourite hero boxes. I think it is the fact that he is so different to Faith that makes them work so well as a couple, they both seem to know exactly what the other one needs and they find a way to provide it for them. Vaughn really helps Faith come to terms with her visions and he proves to her that she can cope with more than she ever would have guessed. I really enjoyed watching her grow into a confident woman as she learns more about her ability and how to control it.

It was great to catch up with Lucas and Sascha several months on from when they met in Slave to Sensation and see how they are getting on as a couple and I loved spending more time with the DarkRiver pack and getting to know some of the other characters a little better. The more I learn about the Psy-Changeling world the more intrigued I am and I have a feeling that this is going to quickly turn into one of my favourite paranormal romance series. There is something about Nalini Singh's writing style that pulls you into the story and makes you feel so connected to her characters and I can't wait to see where the series goes next.

Go buy it. Now. Honestly, if you love Paranormal or Dystopian Romance, you're going to love this. Hands down. I was completely blown away by this book. The writing was exceptional. It was clear, perfectly paced, and never lost my interest. I ended up reading it cover to cover in a few hours and didn't even take the time to stop and eat a meal. The world building in this story was so intriguing: A society of people with phsycic-related powers (telepathy, seers, empaths, etc) who live every day connected to massive NetMind, and have been stripped of human emotion. They were basically brainwashed into believing whatever the "council" of their society chose to tell them, and all of it was lies.

The characters were unique and felt like they were real people, not 2D concepts. Faith NightStar and Vaughn D'Angelo may have been the cutest, and most challenging couple ever, but the way the author portrayed their strange dynamic.... absolutely amazing! Faith is an F-Psy, she sees the future, and her society isolated her at the young age of 3, keeping her from all physical contact for her entire life. She's been taught to have no emotions, and spends her days making business predictions. That is, until one day, she has a question... and the only way to answer it, is to leave her secluded compound and tromp off into the middle of changeling territory in search of the only person who's ever left the NetMind.

What happens next is a journey fraught with discovery, betrayal, murder, passion, and Faith's only chance for freedom. I really enjoyed the way the author put together the romance in this story. The characters began the story in such a way that it wasn't even a possibility for Vaughn or Faith to ever be in a relationship.... the thought didn't even cross their minds... but as the story slowly goes on, they really push each other's boundaries until inevitably, there's no other logical way for them to survive. They needed each other. It was sizzling and endearing, and possibly one of the most entertaining and convincing romances I've come across in one of these types of books. Well done Ms. Singh, well done.

I'm a fan from this point on, and will buy every single book in this series. I'm hooked. So, if you like dystopian stories with complicated world building, sizzling romances, or stories about shape-shifters and Psy's... go grab this book and give it a try. You'll love it.

Boy things really did heat up! Who knew my prediction would come true right down to the name of the book. (Honestly, had no idea.) Singh takes readers even deeper into her stunningly cold world of the Psy through Faith. Faith is a an F-psy (Foresight), she's the most powerful of her generation.

Unlike Sascha, from the previous book, Faith doesn't have a connection to emotion. As an F-Psy she's been more extensively brainwashed by the Protocol. The depth of her brainwashing and conditioning is extraordinary. Faith is an amazing character from the beginning. Her powers have evolved and she's been experiencing horrific visions she doesn't understand that they are causing her to fear--though she doesn't see it as emotion. However, she's not brainwashed enough to go to her own people about it. Especially once she realizes that the visions weren't random or madness, but the death of her sister. In an amazing show of strength she decides to find Sascha and get help.

Vaughn is immediately drawn to her. His jaguar knowing exactly what to do to push her out of her safe bubble and get her past her Silence blocks. It's amazing watching these two develope into their relationship. Vaughn's past is haunting, but not too overly done. After hearing his story I wanted to hold him, instead of laugh at the over tragicness of another PNR bad boy. Faith and Vaughn have such chemistry. The threat of a single touch could send her into seizures.

Readers still get a glimpse into the mind of Lucas, Sascha, and a few other characters. There are few parts that jump in on the Psy Council. It was great seeping into their disturbing thoughts, getting feel for how they think. The whole plot of Faith being haunted and attacked by a Psy serial killer is chilling. Watching as she grows into her gift is amazing, as most F-Psy go crazy. It's haunting that the Silence is the main cause of F-Psy going insane. The best part is the shocking truths about the NetMind.

There's a rebellion coming and seeing it slowly rising in the Psy is so tantalizing! The Psy-Changeling series clearly has an amazing world to grow into! The many facets of Visions of Heat are amazing, even if it echoes strongly of the first book. The emotions, growth, and heat of Faith and Vaughn's love story were tantalizing.

Sexual Content: Considering these books are about finding mates there not as detailed as other Paranormal Romance titles. They're hot, but Singh relies on the emotions to bring on the heat.

3/5- Adored it, just a few minor details held it back

An enjoyable read. This is not great literature, nor even a great love story, but it was a fun read, and it caused me to ponder the human condition and the interconnectivity of us all.

I liked Vaughn and Faith. Lots of sizzle and some playfulness. I loved Vaughn's den.

Happy to see more of Sascha and Lucas, from book 1.

A few instances of religious profanity. Wish Singh had left those out. Some of her books have none at all.

I wish we had learned more about the evil killer. Who was he? A name? Was he "possessed" by the DarkNet Mind? I felt this was not explained enough, so it seemed like a plot device.

Often, rather mystical, and thought provoking. Elements of Buddhism. Also, Jung comes to mind, with his shadow beings, the Net Mind woman filled with stars and the twin, dark, malignant, with no stars, no light. Curious about the good Net Mind. Will we see more of "it"?

Sometimes, the author spent so much time illustrating the mysticism of the Mind, in Buddhism the Consciousness, that the plot suffered.

I was glad that Faith's dad came through for her in such a surprising way, at the end. Even in a somewhat dystopian society, there is love.

In this series, I have read books 1,2,3, and 9. They become rather predictable and the interactions repetitive. Still fun, though. I'd give each book about 4 stars, or a little less.

Another book by Singh that I really enjoyed was Lord of the Abyss.

Nalini Singh's fresh take on the world of paranormal is as gripping as ever, with strong action and a cast of interesting characters. Visions of Heat continues somewhat the original plot of the first book, Slave to Sensation. The Psy are a race known for their cold aloof facades and the deadly minds they cloak beneath. Thanks to a rigid race determined to conceal their slightest imperfections, killers are born, and it's up to the changelings once again to protect not only their own but the Psy as well.

Faith Nightstar is the embodiement of a sheltered Psy. As an F-Psy able to predict the future, her talents are coveted by her family. Cocooned against the outside world, she's tucked away in her own compound, where she can predict safe things, things that make the PsyClan Nightstar very wealthy. When dark, disturbing visions begin to plague her at any given time, and a particular murder cuts too close to home, she knows she cannot ignore them...no matter how fragile her mind might be.

Drawn to the enigmatic and unusual Psy, Changeling Vaughn D'Angelo uses his abilities as a jaguar to encroach on Faith's territory. He must tread carefully, for too much contact with the delicate Psy could send her senses into overload. He's determined to make her feel though and it's going to be on his terms. He sees strength in Faith and that's what he plans to draw forth in her, till she can handle exactly what he wants to give her. When visions of the killer cut too close to home, and the Psy come for her too, Vaughn will be there to catch Faith and dispense the remorseless justice changelings are known so well for.

Vaughn's story was one I greatly looked forward to and came out pretty pleased with. An aloof character in the first book, it was interesting to read exactly what made up this single jaguar member of the DarkRiver leopards. As a sentinel for his adoptive clan, he's fierce, loyal and dangerously cunning. When he sets these talented sights on Faith it's an instant animal attraction that roars to the surface, ready to claim the confounding woman. Faith, knows her boundaries, and while she thinks there's no place for her in Vaughn's world, she proves herself to be invaluable to him and it's not for the cold reasons her Psyclan wants her. Their interactions make this installment worth the read. While the villain this time didn't stand out the way the previous book's baddy did, I found myself not minding in the least by book's end. Ms. Singh is a master at dishing up the details at just the right intervals, allowing her plots and subplots to flow beautifully amongst one another. Stay tuned for more from this fascinating new world. Next up is Caressed by Ice, this time starring a Psy member as the hero. It releases September 4, 2007.

Faith NightStar is a star F-Psy for the NightStar Group. She accurately predicts market trends and inventions for the business sector. Yet lately, She is seeing more than her usual foreseer abilities can explain murder. She sees death and she can't escape it no matter how much she tries to do so. Faith wonders what has brought this sudden increase in her abilities yet tries to cope with them any way. Vaughan D'Angelo is jaguar of the DarkRiver Clan and intrigued by an isolated compound at the edge of DarkRiver Territory. Vaughan let's his curiousity get the better of him by spying a red headed beauty as the lone occupant of the compound. Vaughan can't explain his attraction to this red headed beauty yet continues to watch her until something interesting happens. Faith needs to talk to Sascha Duncan, a rogue Psy,that dropped out of the PsyNet. Faith wants to stop this visions from happening if she's able. So Faith plans to sneak out of her compound to make contact with Sascha. She really had no clue what she was getting into by doing this but there is no going back. Vaughan takes Faith to meet Sascha and Lucas, there Faith explains her situation to Sascha. Sascha isn't sure if she can help Faith but that doesn't mean she won't try to do so. Vaughan can't seem to stop touching Faith even though she's asked him to stop because she can't handle it until she passes out. Sascha and Vaughan argue about touching Faith. He believes that Faith can handle where as Sascha doesn't think so. Faith attempts to handle Vaughan's touch which gives her a thrill she doesn't expect. Can Faith handle being touched? What about Faith and Vaughan's attraction to each other? Can Faith stop her visions of the future? How far will Faith's abilities grow? Your answers await you in Visions of Heat.

I am really enjoying the Psy-Changling series. I can't help but think of the Psy as Vulcans (I know my trekkie side is showing) with their non-emotional links to everything. The case of Faith NightStar goes beyond even the regular psy treatment as she is kept isolated from other people so she can sit in a monitored chair all day and give physic predictions. During some of those sessions, Faith has a prediction of a killer. Since psy are supposed to be emotionless it doesn't seem possible that there is a psy killer. So of course, she thinks she is going crazy and that any day now she will be taken away to the funny farm.

Not only is Faith emotionally isolated from others but physically isolated also. That is until the changeling Vaughn stumbles across her isolated (but very well guarded) compound.

Vaughn, who is kind of a loner himself, takes it as a personal challenge to break in and see what is going on. Just as he is about to break in, he sees Faith breaking out. He is drawn to touch Faith at every possible moment. For a women not used to being touched it takes all Faith's willpower (or won't power in this case) to keep away from Vaughn. His closeness overwhelms her senses and sends her into an emotional overload. He is convinced she will get used to it, she is convinced it will kill her.

Although I enjoyed this story overall, I think there were some HUGE leaps made in this story. For example, if I was as emotionally and physically sheltered as Faith was, I don't think one of the first places I would reach out to touch a guy would be on his `manhood'. I think that would be one of the last places I would be able to handle. Think about the emotional turmoil that goes with doing something like that during a regular relationship. Just saying ....

The Narration Review
This audiobook was narrated by Angela Dawe. Once again, I felt like she was rushing through the book. Maybe she had a time slot she needed to get this book into, I don't know. I always find myself checking to see if I accidently set my iPod on 1 ½ speed. LoL

I've read Nalini Singh's first book about the Psy, Slave to Sensation, twice now. The first time I read it, I was struck by how original it was. The second time, I was struck by how enjoyable it was. With that being said, I had high expectations for Visions of Heat, but also some doubts that Ms. Singh would be able to sustain the originality and fun factor that made the first so enjoyable. I'm pleased to be able to write that Visions of Heat is just as good if not better than the first.

What made Visions of Heat so enjoyable were the characters and the world building and the dialogue and the chemistry and . . . well, just about everything. The world that was already so fully developed and realized only became richer and fuller this time around. The fear I sometimes have is that an author will successfully create an idea and some interesting characters . . . at first, but those characters will then go on to appear time and time again in successive books, although disguised under a different name and description. That is not the case, here. Faith and Vaughn are completely different from Sascha and Lucas . . . and if I'm being honest, I think I liked them even more.

Faith is one of the rarest Psy designations: a Foresight Psy aka an F-Psy. On top of that, she is probably the most talented and most successful of all F-Psys. Her predictions are strong and accurate and have earned her and her family billions. Unfortunately, her gifts have a downside. She lives secluded and alone, sheltered from the outside world that would overwhelm her mind (or so she is told). Her only visitors are her emotionless father and the cold M-Psys who monitor her every word, her every move and every beat of her heart. Faiths' facade of emotionless begins to crumble when her sister is killed and the murderer begins haunting her dreams. She sneaks away from her compound and sets off to find some answers with Sascha Duncan.

Along the way, she is held up by the protective Vaughn. His behavior is unpredictable, his attitude is predatory and he is perhaps the most dangerous of the DarkRiver Changelings. Vaughn's own childhood was a terrible one. He remains haunted by the beloved sister he had to watch slowly die, unable to save her. Vaughn is immediately captivated by the very fragile Psy. He forces her to accept his touch little by little, alternating between patience and impatience in his desire for her. It's Vaughn who notices one night, that the killer that plagues Faith's dreams may be more than just a mental presence in her mind, and together they set out to find her sister's murderer.

Visions of Heat starts off strong and stays that way right until the very end. Faith and Vaughn were two characters that at first seemed polar opposites- she: so fragile, he: so . . . borderline violent, but. . . Ms. Singh made it work. Their chemistry was great, but the emotional aspect, their love story, was very sweet as well. Faith's evolution from a sheltered and fragile Psy to a strong and resilient woman had me applauding and the mystery of her sister's killer kept me guessing. Also, a couple characters were more fully developed this time around - just enough to tantalize us for the upcoming books. Visions of Heat is an enjoyable and unique sequel to an enjoyable and unique book- I definitely recommend it.

This review includes my thoughts on the audio version.

This world that Nalini Singh has created is amazing. Absolutely enthralling! I love the way the stories unfold, the trials, the triumphs... it's a brilliant world, overall.

This particular story was a bit slow to start, and I had some problems getting into it. But once things started rolling, I was hooked and couldn't get through it fast enough.

I wasn't as impressed with Angela Dawe's narration this time. She does a great job with the Psy... their lack of emotion, the awe in their voices as they begin to see the world the way it really is... she's great with them, but I'm having problems with her portrayal of the Changelings.

I highly recommend this series to fans who like steam with their Sci-Fi and Urban Fantasy.

Breaking it down:

Overall Psy-Changeling World: 5 stars
This particular storyline: 4 stars
Narration: 3 stars

My Review:
I can already foresee that this is going to be one of my favorite series. Wow, this was a fabulous book. Quite honestly, I am not sure that I have put enough thought into the book to review it yet, because there are a lot of underlying "lessons" woven into the story. I like a book that can make you think. Well, sometimes anyway...a lot of times, I just read for the entertainment value. Luckily this book was full of both things!

Faith is an F-Psy. As an F-Psy she sees images of the future...a future that can be changed and manipulated with enough information. She lives a solitary lifestyle for her "own protection." Too much external stimulation can cause a full mental cascade and insanity. At least, that is what she has been told. Regardless, she knows that mental insanity is the ultimate fate of most F-Psy eventually, so she faces a bleak future. Her mental barriers have been slowly degenerating for the last few months and after a brush with a killer who kills her sister, she is feeling desperate...for something, so she escapes her home and ventures into the forest where she finds Vaughan.

Vaughan is a jaguar within the leopard pack. He understands isolation. He and his sister were abandoned by their parents when they were only children. His sister starved to death and he was more animal than human by the time that the leopards found him and brought him into their pack. He remains closer to his wild side than most changelings as a result.

This is not a romantic pairing that should ever work. Faith has been isolated since age 3. She doesn't know how to handle ANY human interaction at all, much less the animal-like pushing that Vaughan is constantly bombarding her with physically and mentally, but Nalini writes this story brilliantly so that it works. And it works really, REALLY well. I loved how Vaughan knew how and when to push Faith. His leopard senses her abilities and needs even better than the man does. These two together are explosive...and so romantic.

As I mentioned before, there are some fabulous threads of thought running through this story. The Psy-Net is how all the Psy are mentally connected. There is a revelation that Faith makes in this book that is obviously going to have far-reaching effects in further books and the Psy population. I loved, LoVeD, LOVED this twist...such a creative twist to this story line and I am really excited to see where it goes.

This is such a fabulous world that Nalini has created and it's exciting to see how she explores the moral aspects of it all. What are we if we don't have the consciousness that comes from emotion? How much of who we are comes from our socialization and our conditioning vs. who we are just naturally inside of us? Nature vs Nurture? How does our family and the ties to that family, both externally and internally, reflect who we are and become? I am loving all these ideas that Nalini is exploring through these books. Just an absolutely fabulous series!!

I just recently got into this series in the past month, starting with Lucas in Slave to Sensation, and, while I really liked him, I have to say I loved Vaughn! All that golden hair and those golden eyes. So sexy!

Vaughn is so alpha male, so primal and completely sensual. Compared to Lucas, he is more of a loner and more animalistic since his animal the jaguar is closer to the surface, making him seem more wild, dangerous and untamed. I love how he growls, how possessive and how protective he is of Faith. He is territorial, demanding, and pushy.

He is determined to possess her, and there is no way he is letting her go. When Vaughn first meets Faith, he is fascinated by her, her hair, her skin, and he can't help but touch her. He cannot understand his preoccupation with this Psy woman. Why can he not stop thinking about her?

There is not a lot of sex in the book, but there is so much delicious sexual tension and chemistry. I can really feel Vaughn's desire for Faith and Faith's longing for him, despite her fear of letting go. As Faith experiences these dark visions, Vaughn is there to pull her back and to watch out for her.

I enjoyed this story more than STS, and that might be because the first book had more information to get through, more to piece together. In this second book, I already know who is who and what they can do, etc. so that made it easier to read, for me at least.

Visions of Heat expands on the relationships seen in book 1, and I do like seeing Lucas and Sascha darling again. It also gives us more of Judd and his abilities and what his story might be. I'm really looking forward to seeing how some of the other characters develop- Dorian, Clay, Judd, and especially Hawke.

This is the second book in Nalini Singh's Psy Changeling Series. We have our hero Vaughn, a jaguar shifter and our heroine Faith, our disillusioned F-Psy.

At first Vaughn had to grow on me. And not like a fungus. While I appreciate an alpha male as much as the next girl, his alpha-ism was at first manifesting in a very stalkerish, very aggressive way. Almost like he was too much for our at first fragile heroine. I always liked Faith. She was vulnerable yet strong and capable. Vaughn and Faith's back stories were also great. Nalini Singh seems to write the perfect tortured hero. She really knows how to pull on your heartstrings.

Overall this book was a solid addition to the series. The reason why I didn't choose to make it 5 stars was because there was a lot of information dumps about the PsyNet, PsyMind,Psy this and Psy that. It was almost like when the smurfs talk and they are like smurftastic or what the smurf or smurf it all to hell. I got confused for like 5 seconds everytime a Psy reference was made even though I read the first book. I'm sure it was all the set up the next books but it still felt like a lot of information for one. I am excited to reach the next in the series.

Well thank goodness for weekends because I was able to sit back and read Visions of Heat without interruption. Late Friday night I finished Slave to Sensation and realised that even though I had purchased the entire Phy-Changeling series, I had missed purchasing book 2 so I had to dash out and buy it before the store Chapters closed. Whew! Disaster adverted because I got the last copy.

Visions of Heat was Faith and Vaughn's book. Faith was a newly introduced character and Vaughn we all met in the first book Slave to Sensation. I liked meeting Faith and I ended up really liking her character. Even though she was a Phy and she was experiencing touching, emotions and sensations for the first time, she was different than Sascha. Her F-Phy ability can really benefit the changeling race and give her some much needed self-worth. I already liked Vaughn and I was super happy that he mated with a woman I liked. The pair is a good match. They fit each other nicely.

Visions of Heat dove a bit deeper into the Phy world and I will admit to being a bit lost at times. I won't be ashamed to admit I had to read a couple of paragraphs over a second time to grasp the meaning or understand the descriptions. I find the Phy network very involved but that does not take away from how utterly fascinating and interesting it all is. Visions of Heat did a great job dropping tidbits for future books and now having Slave for Sensation under my belt, there is an amazing story to be told here. I can't wait to start Caressed by Ice which is book 3.

I'd like to add that my favourite line from Visions of Heat earned a tweet tonight. "Can I lick you into submission?" Ah Vaughn, my possessive dominate cat boyfriend, heart belongs to you.

With getting ready to start the 3rd book, Caressed by Ice, I am starting to have questions. I am wondering about reproduction. Can Lucas & Sascha or Vaughn & Faith have cubs/Phy babies? Not that I am in any rush for them to do so, I am just wondering about the possibility. I am sure that it gets answered along the way. Also, I see the third book touches on the history of the Phy society. I hope we find out the history of the changelings too. (if you know these answers, please don't share with me yet)

One more quick note, thank you to Nalini Singh for not completely forgetting about Lucas and Sascha. So many times I start reading a series and the next book drops off the previous characters. I am pleased that this series seems to continue with their storylines. I love that. I don't need a chapter devoted to the previous characters but because I fall in love with the characters, I need those updates.

If you read my review of Slave to Sensation then you know how much I adored it and became a huge fan of the Psy-Changeling series. As soon as I finished Slave to Sensation I picked up Vision of Heat and it definitely did not disappoint.

Faith Nightstar was a very different heroine from Sascha but she still grabbed my heart and Vaughn was smoking hot as well. Lucas is still my favorite but Vaughn gave him a run for his money. The story itself continues to get more complex and fascinating. The political intrigues will keep readers on their toes and wonder who can the Changelings truly trust.

I finished this book in a day as well and it was killing me that I didn't have the next book and my library didn't have it either. Times like this really makes me miss having a bookstore down the road (or even in the same town!).

In Slaves to Sensation we were introduced to the world of the Psy-changelings. The Psy were a race that had emotions conditioned out of them as children through the Silence Protocol, while the changelings are shapeshifters that thrive on emotions and touch.

Faith Nightstar is a cardinal F-Psy, a foreseer. Living in a compound, she predicts business trends for her those who can afford her and makes millions for the Nightstar PsyClan, but when visions of darkness and murder threatens her already tenuous sanity, she sets out to discover how to forestall her insanity.

Vaughn is a jaguar changeling in the leopard DarkRiver pack. He was fascinated by the compound he found at the edge of DarkRiver territory, and even more so by the Psy that climbed over the fence and came into their territory. Vaughn is an alpha male to the core, his animal much too close to the surface due to past events. While a part of him doesn't trust any Psy, he couldn't help but feel attracted to the one he found in the compound.

At first I didn't really like Faith, but she grew on me somewhat. She just seems so fragile and cowardly at first, her inability to accept even the slightest touch and her fainting spells, but kudos to Ms. Singh in being able to get across to readers just how fragile Faith is. Unlike Sascha in Slaves to Sensation, Faith is a true Psy who've never felt feelings before and have to truly break her Conditioning. It's a hard process, but Vaughn is perfect for her in that he is willing to push her to the limit but knows when to stop. He believes in Faith's abilities to break her Conditioning. Sure enough, Faith find that she is stronger than she believed and became even stronger for it.

Additionally, there is even more revealed about the world of the Psy, and we can see that despite the Psy killers and the Council, not all Psy are bad and are puppets of the Council. There're politics and tensions within the Psy world that we get merely a glimpse of. Ms. Singh set a great pace for the book in intersecting these developments into Faith and Vaughn's story so that the plot flowed quite nicely.

Definitely worth the read. Give this series a chance and you won't be disappointed!

This second book of the Psy-Changeling world is about Vaughn (one of Lucas's sentinels and a jaguar) and Faith an F-psy of the Nightstar clan with the ability to see the future.

In this book the attraction between Vaughn and Faith is instant, Vaughn is looking for her in the forest near her home and Faith is going to the woods to get to Sasha (Lucas's mate) they lock eyes and that's it! From then on it's just a matter of time for them to be together.

The storyline is mostly the same Faith has to get out of the PsyNet because she has discovered the ability to see future murders (one including her own sister) plus she is determined to uncover the murderer to save more innocent lives.

Things I liked the most were the interaction of the Pack, although we didn't get enough insight for me to be totally happy, getting to know more of them was very good (i.e why Clay is always so quiet, how is Dorian doing, and Tammy's pups were delightful). And I liked very much the discovery about the NetMind even though it was hard to understand at the beginning I'm pretty much sure it's were everything will be based from now on.

Things I didn't get enough of......Wolves! and especially Hawke!!!

Oh! And those Psy-guys in the Counsil they bore me to death!!!!!!

VISIONS OF HEAT -Book 2 in Changeling-Psy Series

With a brilliant start to the series in SLAVE TO SENSATION - Nalini Singh, now my favorite paranormal writer, captivates by her vivid imagery and flawless narration. The unbelievable sense of prose, has you enthralled from the moment your eyes land on the first page and you are glued to a fabulous story and characters that will stay with you for a long while.

I thought the first in the series was absolutely brilliant - but in my opinion VISIONS OF HEAT surpasses the first book. Unbelievably talented Singh continues to faultlessly depict a changing-psy world, making it so authentic that you feel it exists with characters that are so alive; they almost feel like real people. Not only is the storyline so engrossing that you can hardly put the book down, but you have this sense of empathy for the characters you have fallen in love with along the way.

This is the story of Faith and Vaughn. Vaughn, a changeling jaguar sentinel of the DarkRiver pack, comes in contact with Faith, an F-Psy from the NightStar clan. Faith, closely guarded all her life - and living in an isolated cabin surrounded by Psy guards, has been making predictions since she was 3 years old - predictions that the Psy dearly value, as she is worth billions of dollars for their accuracy in the business markets.

When she experiences visions of blood, death and strangulation in her sleep, she thinks they are nightmares - but shortly after her sister Marine is strangled in the same manner she has seen in her dreams. Unable to cope - as she believes she is going insane - she decides to seek the help of Sascha Duncan, a Rogue Psy (we meet Sascha in SLAVE TO SENSATION) the only person that might be able to tell her why she is experiencing these visions.

Faith is a grand heroine - appearing fragile but with tremendous inner strength, her intelligence and fortitude, coupled with a magnificent sense of loyalty make her a brilliant mate for Vaughn

Vaughn is the perfect Alpha Male. Immovable, arrogant, superior, lethal and very possessive - he relies on his animal instinct more so than any other Pack member. To Faith, he is beyond intimidating - he is dangerously fascinating. Faith can't endure physical touch as she can go into mental overload when she is touched. Vaughn is fascinated by Faith - and always keeps touching her, making her accept the sense of touch and pushing her to accept her emotions. Vaughn realizes both are mated - but for Faith - with her lack of ability to sustain touch... well... lets just say you are in for a great ride and a very intimate, sexy read!! There is such beauty in the commitment and love Vaughn feels for Faith - that she realizes that he is her salvation.

The H/H are to die for, the story has great suspense (no annoying cliffhangers), sex is steamy and the interaction from previous characters beautifully blended in the plot. Well done Nalini!

Nalini Singh is one my favourite authors. Nothing can change my mind on that. I absolutely adore her Psy/Changeling series, but of course I like every book in this series in a different way. Since Slave to Sensation is my one and only star, it's only natural that the second book in the series doesn't quite catch up to it. And that is okay, because even though I didn't love Visions of Heat as much as Slave to Sensation I still enjoyed it quite a lot.

Faith Nightstar lives - due to her abilities - in an isolated area. She is the best foreseer in the world, but suddenly she starts getting dark visions, which is disturbing for a normal F-Psy. Those visions are signs of madness and the result of that is rehabilitation.
For me, Faith is a difficult character and at first I found it quite hard to identify with her. In the beginning she is so cold that as a reader I was repelled by her and her constant denial of feeling anything. But as the story progresses she develops into this beautiful and warm woman that I liked. Not loved, but liked.

Changeling Vaughn D'Angelo feels something is up and starts observing Faith's house in the middle of nowhere. He has a complicated past and a quiet and dangerous character. After reading Visions of Heat I still have the feeling that I don't get Vaughn completely. To me he remains this mysterious changeling, who doesn't open up to anyone, but his own woman. I guess this makes him special to many readers out there, because I've heard the second book in this installment is their favourite. I personally can't really understand that, but I can accept it. Every person has different tastes.

I remember reading Visions of Heat right after finishing Slave to Sensation, which I think was a huge mistake. Those two books are so different that I remember feeling annoyed reading about Faiths and Vaughn's story. It was just so much different, because at some point it lacked this deep passion that I loved in the first novel so much.
I changed my mind about Visions of Heat when I reread the book again after some time had passed. I felt like I finally understood the motives and intentions of this strange couple.

I'm also always thrilled to read those short and rare chapters featuring Sascha and Lucas. Another central point why I love Singh's work. She always keeps the reader updated on how the other characters develop that she focused on in previous books.

Also the conflict between Psy and Changeling gets more and more intense. I find it quite refreshing to get to know the Psy Council. Each member is a mystery and their secrets are dark and plenty. I always had a thing for the villain, and now there are so many!

The Yearning Mermaid says: "Psy/Changeling fans will be thrilled to read he second book in the series. Everyone else should read book #1 first."

Faith Nightstar is a cardinal telepath, an F-Psy whose ability to foretell the future with great accuracy has made her a protected and isolated asset to her clan since childhood. Now, instead of visions of business decisions and commercial ventures, she is constantly bombarded by those of murder and death. More dangerous to her though, are the accompanying feelings of need and pleasure. Can she withstand not only the breaking of Silence but the emotions she desperately wants to experience?

Vaughn D'Angelo is a jaguar changeling who lives among the leopards. His strong animal side becomes fascinated by the solitary Psy he discovers living in a guarded compound in the forest. The more he thinks of her, the more he's drawn to her until the attraction is overwhelming. His jaguar self demands this woman, but while he dreams of ways to touch and pleasure her, others are determined to retain her abilities for their own purposes. Will his desire for her cost Faith her sanity or will the actions of others mean her death?

Visions of Heat is the second book in Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series and I loved it as much as I did the first book. I loved Vaughn as a jaguar shifter and the subtle differences between him and the leopard shifters he lives with. I'm partial to big cats anyway, but Nalini's big cats are at the top end of my scale. I love them and they way their society is portrayed.

If you read the prior book, Slave to Sensation, you cannot miss Visions of Heat. This book can stand on its own but is all the richer for knowing the back story of the characters that are revisited in this one.

The world of the Psy has been more revealed in Visions of Heat and the intricate world building only serves to suck me further into this series. Faith's desire for the emotions and physical touch that might totally destroy her is fascinating and I especially love her interactions with Vaughn when he gets especially jaguar.

I recommend Visions of Heat to anyone who wants to read a compelling story set in a world of extremes where people can still find love in a middle ground that may or may not be anything society would approve of. The hot sex and character relationships sucked me in immediately and I could not put the book down until I had finished it - then I immediately started reading it again!

Faith has the ability to predict the future. When she sees something extremely disturbing she sneaks away from the compound in which she is being held to get help from Sacha.

Vaughn has a thing for the red headed F-Psy and so does his jaguar side. I thought Vaughn was pretty kick a**. And at times funny.

The story was interesting and suspenseful. There was action, romance and steamy scenes.

I just felt there was something off with this book. Its not a bad book and the characters are well done and good characters. I think I was just expecting more since I gave the 1st book 4 stars. But I will be continuing the series and I hope it gets better from here.

For anyone who hasn't read the first book in the series (Slave to Sensation), Visions of Heat is set on an alternative history Earth, where the planet is populated by three races: - Changelings - shapeshifters who rely on their animal instincts, The Psy who are emotionless and cold, and human beings. I would recommend you read Slave to Sensation first if possible, as there are plotlines started there that continue into VoH.

Faith NightStar is an F-Psy (F-foresight) tormented by dark visions (no pun intended :)). Unsure of what is happening to her and not wanting to reveal her fragile state of mind to the Psy Council she seeks out Sascha Duncan (Slave to Sensation) the only Psy known to be free of the Psynet. It's while she is looking for Sascha that she meets Vaughn D'Angelo, a jaguar Changeling who is inexplicably drawn to Faith. (I note here that Vaughn is an incredibly alpha hero, almost to the point of being unbearable on a couple of occasions.)

I've read on some reviews that there is a preference for Sascha (the heroine of StS) over Faith. I however, like Faith, she's a contradiction - incredibly fragile, but at the same time so single-minded she manages to push herself farther than she thinks she can go.

It almost seems like the relationship between the two of them shouldn't work. Vaughn the irresistible force willing Faith to take on more. Faith the immovable object giving in. And yet they fit, in a way I don't think either of them would be able to with anybody else. I wish the book had been longer so we could see this relationship evolve even further.

One of the things I really enjoyed was the continuance of plot threads from StS - we meet up with Sascha and Lucas again, and it's interesting to see how much Sascha has changed between books. There has also been fallout from the incident at the end of StS and this is still being dealt with by the Psy Council, who, if possible, got scarier. We also find out more about how the Psynet itself functions and get a hint of how this will impact the Psy. Visions of Heat is perhaps not as intense as Slave to Sensation and we're now clued into how this alternative world works; but there is an awful lot here to mull over.

I very much like how the overall arc of the series is developing. Nalini Singh starts to increase the tension in Visions of Heat and I can't wait for Caressed by Ice.

Faith NightStar has been taught that the Silence is necessary. The Silence restricts the Psy from feeling any emotions. As an F-Psy, she has the ability of foresight but has remained isolated from person-to-person contact. After all, the Psy know that every F-Psy is destined for clinical insanity and Faith is one of the top prognosticators of her generation. Naturally Faith is worried when she begins receiving visions of evil, including the murder of her own sister. However, everything Faith believes, all of the teachings that have been drummed into her, are about to be questioned when she meets sexy Changeling, Vaughn D'Angelo. Vaughn wants to show Faith just how powerful emotions and touch really are....

VISIONS OF HEAT is the phenomenal sequel to the equally phenomenal SLAVE TO SENSATION. VISIONS OF HEAT will best be appreciated after reading the first book as there are several ongoing threads that are expanded upon in this sequel. We learn more about the NetMind and the PsyNet in VISIONS OF HEAT and some fascinating possibilities are already in place for the next book.

Nalini Singh proves without a shadow of a doubt that she is an absolute master at world building with this gem! The various interactions between the Changelings and the Psy, coupled with the machinations of the Council, make for one intriguing storyline. The romance between Faith and Vaughn happens rather quickly and it should be noted that VISIONS OF HEAT will appeal more to readers looking for a strong plot than those seeking solely to find a romance with a paranormal twist. Nalini Singh takes her plotline very seriously as she has developed a very complex but thoroughly satisfying storyline that has quickly vaulted her to the top ranks of writers in the genre. Don't miss out on this series as it is a definite keeper!

"Visions of Heat", what a great read!

Nalini Singh had done it again!
Once again, I was not surprised of how well this story was written. Nalini is one of those gifted writers that knows, how to write a good story with a good amount of sensuality, intrigue and romance. So are you ready, set, go

Here goes a little hint of the story:
Faith is a Psy "F" that has the ability to have visions of the future. Vaughn is a sentinel of the Changelings that is in charge on guarding his territory from the cold and cruel Psys.
One day he finds faith walking on his territory and he has to make sure that this Psy doesn't causes any troubles, so he is going to keep a close eye on her. Really close....

I devoured the book pretty much in the same day that I received it. The anticipation of what was going to happen next was killing me. I couldn't put it down until it was over and then I was disappointed that I got nothing else to read. I had been waiting for this book for months and I have to say that it was worth the wait.

I couldn't ask for a sexier Hero, Sweet, Hot and Protective all at the same time. I love Vaughn since he was first introduced on "Slave to Sensation"
......and he is a Jaguar. Hmmm! What else could I ask for?

Faith, what a strong, independent woman! Love those kinds of heroines that know what they want and go for it.

I really enjoyed this book specially seeing how Vaughn and Faith grow to love each other. This is a very emotional sensual read, and if you decide to pick this book you won't be disappointed.

From my own experience I could tell you that series can become tedious some times. But this is not the case Nalini was able to enhance the Changelings/Psy world. This book stands on its own, but if you want more of this great Changelings/Psy world you should try "Slave to Sensation" (Lucas and Sasha story) which also made a few appearances on "Visions of Heat"

This is definitely one of those romance-paranormal novels that you want to keep on your shelf, to read again and again so start making a place for it.

Enjoy,
Barbara

I know this is the second book in the series, but I actually read it fourth because it wasn't stocked in the stores when I was buying the others. Of the four, it's my least favorite, but my overall enjoyment of this series has not diminished one whit. The story told here in Visions of Heat is still strong, with lots of additional development into the Psy/Changeling world. We learn more about the Psy and their increasingly shaky control of their species. Singh starts to layer in some series-wide suspense, with the addition of Kaleb Krychek as a possible addition to the Council. (And having read the other books in this series, I have to say that Kaleb continues to intrigue me. On the surface, he seems villainous, but I can't help but suspect that he's not so much a villain as an antihero, and I'm enjoying watching Singh explore his moral ambiguity.) The weakness of this book is Faith, but I think that's just an emotional reaction on my part. I had a hard time warming up to her and her Psy coldness. With Sascha it was easier, because Sascha was already tapping into and acknowledging (and even embracing) her emotions. I think Faith's programming was harder to overcome, although Singh did so successfully, little by little over the course of the book. I also thought that Vaughn was possibly just a bit too pushy, although he maintained all along that it was what Faith needed, and ultimately he was right.

As I read through this series, I continue to be impressed by Singh's obvious forethought with respect to her worldbuilding. She definitely seems to be driving this vehicle, rather than letting it drive her, and as someone who has seen too many series unravel due to lack of long-range planning, I really appreciate that. Can't wait for more!

another "intro" book to the series, number two in the series, sadding additional characters and more background; don't miss the two short stories the previewed the series; one thing I don't like is that of the three "races" inhabiting this world, only the changelings (shapeshifters) and the psy are given much space, what about the "normal" human that have to live their lives within the world of the changeling and psy; just leaving them as amorphous blobs in the background is a distinct negative; one of the good things is that the author makes available various short fiction forms that enlighten the characters or show interesting scenes that were deleted from the main books

As an F-Psy, Faith NightStar is extremely valuable to not only her NightStar PsyClan, but also to the Psy Council itself. When she starts having disturbing visions of murder, Faith believes that her mental state is declining even faster than that of a "normal" F-Psy. Faith had heard whispers of Sascha Duncan dropping out of the PsyNet and believes that Sascha is the only Psy that can help her battle the visions that are becoming harder and harder to hide. On her way to find Sascha, she is stopped by Vaughn, a sentinel for DarkRiver as well as a shape-shifting jaguar.

Vaughn knows that he walks a very fine line between humanity and following his animal instincts. When he first sees Faith, his animal instincts override what little humanity he may have. Though he wants nothing more than to claim Faith as his own, Vaughn's first duty is to Lucas, alpha of DarkRiver. As she tells her tale to Sascha, he realizes that he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

VISIONS OF HEAT is a fantastic addition to the Psy-Changeling series. Faith tries to overcome her natural instincts which were instilled in her during Silence. Vaughn knows that if he gets Faith away from the Psy, she will be far from safe. He also knows that she won't be safe if she stays in the PsyNet. As each day passes, Faith's foresight ability grows and soon they find themselves racing to stop murder.

Don't miss this one. You won't be disappointed!

I consumed book one, hungry for the second and the pace has not yet slowed down. I loved the introduction of Faith and her fiery temper. Although I didn’t connect as much as I had the first two in the series Sascha and Lucas, I still loved this book.
Vaughn is a Jaguar Changeling who can and most of the time does turn to his Jaguar self. He is more animal than human and it becomes obvious to Faith as she tries to conceal her curiosity of him in case destroying herself. But Vaughn isn’t use to a ‘no’ and has never lost sight of his prey before.
It is a very challenging romance, but one I did enjoy. Personally, I found a few lines in this book that Vaughn spoke not attractive to me, but that was only because that is how their relationship and characters worked well together. I did find his overprotectiveness humours and highly enjoyed their path together to fall in love. Another great book from Nalini Singh and onto the next one I happily go. Book Three, look out because I am going to devour you!

I really like this series. It is edgy, unique, complicated, and completely sci-fi, paranormal to the extreme. My complaint with this one is that it's very much the same plot as the first book "slave to sensation". Fortunately for this book, I liked the characters a little better in this one.

Faith is a F-PSY. She is isolated and protected because she can predict the future which has proved very financially lucrative for the Psy race and council.

Vaughn is a changeling. Half jaguar half man, but the jaguar side is stronger. You learn why as the sadness of his childhood is revealed. The romance between Faith and Vaughn is almost secondary to the plot of the story. This is a series that primarily focuses on the two different species..the psy and the changelings, and how they interact with eachother both within and outside their species.

As I said in the previous book's review. This is a complicated world comprised of a psychic, telekinetic world in which the battlefield is comprised mostly of the mind. Both books have killers out there and it is up to both heroines to stop the killing by finding the killer before he strikes again. I really hope that the next book has a different plot line because although I liked this book and it's prequel, I'm ready for something else.

I did appreciate the author's ability to take the time necessary to develop the relationship between Vaughn and Faith. Psy's and changeling's are so fundamentally opposite in their emotional capability and needs as a result of the "silence" protocol that has rendered Psy devoid of emotion, that to think that the highly touch and emotion centered changeling could easily mate with a psy is highly improbable. How Singh collides these two cultures is amazing, believable, and beautiful.

REVIEW:
Loved this book!! Love Vaughn!! Loved Faith!! Just plain loved! I have yet to pick up a Nalini Singh story and not totally be in love. Nalini is such an amazing storyteller and Angela Dawe brings the characters to life. This girl has a knack for voices!! It is amazing. And as always I love when I feel like I am in the story not just being read to. Angela does that. I never feel that she is just reading the works. I feel like I am right there with the characters.

If you are thinking about a book to read or listen too I would HIGHLY suggest picking up a copy of Vision of Heat, but if you have not read book 1 Slave to Sensation I would start there

Disclaimer:
I purchased this book from Audible and this review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

Psychic Faith Nightstar avoids extreme emotions because she knows she cannot afford to lose control as that would mean losing her tenuous handle on her skills. However, her latest visions are loaded with tense feelings that frighten her. Already tight, she is almost over the edge when her sister is murdered.

Faith must leave her safety nest for the first time in over two decades to learn what happened to her sibling if she is to regain her equilibrium on life and to insure she is not next. She leaves her sanctuary trusting no one. On the outside she meets were-cat Vaughn D'Angelo, who feels an affinity towards the frightened woman and a need to protect her. She knows she needs him to keep her safe, but fears her new feelings for this Changeling because if her "handlers" learn that she is falling in love they will kill him and probably her.

This is an exciting but strange romantic fantasy that grips readers from the onset as the restrictive cocooned world of Faith Nightstar is revealed to the audience. She is a bird in a gilded cage who escapes to a wider world filled with senses rattling every step of the way. The mystery of her sister's death and the romantic subplot are delightfully created to provide deeper conflict within the soul of the heroine, but it does not take a forecaster, a psychic or a reviewer to know this is Faith's fate that turns Nalini Singh's thriller into what will be a sub-genre favorite.

Visions of Heat is the sequel to Slave of Sensation in this new series of the future, so the only downside for this book is that you must read the first in this series to understand everything that is going on.
Again we enter the world of Psy, a telepathic race that has been programmed to show no emotion. Faith is one that can tell the future and finds out her sister has been murdered. She is starting to feel things she shouldn't and wants to find who murdered her sister.
Vaughn is a shiftshaping jaguar who is more of a loner and is scarred by his past. But when these two come together, the passion is beyond intense and their future is now cemented in each other.
If you are a fan of the future and sci-fi romance element, Nalini Singh is well becoming a pro at this genre. Their are very intense feelings between the two main charcters and watch out when they come together! Hot hot hot.
The book is very sexy and the world around them has been written in a very original way.
Many characters from the first book are shown including the heroine and hero of the first book.

While I enjoyed this book, I didn't think it was quite as strong as the first book. Faith and Vaughn just didn't have the same chemistry as Sascha and Lucas. I appreciated how Singh was very careful in creating very distinct differences between Sascha and Faith. Faith and Vaughan are different characters and so their story played out differently. Yet while I think that Singh succeeded in writing a different story on many levels, it still felt like the stories were a bit too similar, especially if you read them back to back the way I did. I was relived to see that the third book involved a she-wolf and a male psy.

Also, Singh continues to do a bang up job on her world building. However, there were still parts of the book that dragged because there was just too much info dumping. In the end, some elements seemed unnecessarily complicated, to the point that I never quite understood everything that happened.

All in all, I liked how the smaller story arc (Faith and Vaughn) was completed while the larger arc (changelings vs. psy) is yet to be finished. I was a bit let down by this book but not enough to keep me from reading the 3rd book. I just hope that things pick up, otherwise, I'm not sure I can keep reading the rest of the series.

Man, I'm so happy I started reading this series, it's trully awesome. There is a reason Nalini Singh is one of the best (if not the best) PNR writers and this story is definitely one of the reasons why! I simply can't get enough of this fantastic world she created and the plot structure. Each character is super individual and interesting, each plot is original and when reading the book you can really let yourself go and dive into this magical world. Just wow! Enough with talking, I'm on to reading the next book!

If a writer can make me cry over NetMind, I'd say she is a winner. This is my 2nd Nalini book and although the first one really got me hooked, this one will make me keep on reading the series. Such an exciting and unique world and characters she is creating here. Loved that the heroines so fat, sascha and faith although trying to fight their way out of the Silence programming and conditioning are quite gift, beautiful, fierce and strong.

Visions of Heat is the sequel to debut novel Slave to Sensation. While Visions of Heat didn't quite live up to StoS, it was still a good read. This alternate realty romance provides a rich otherworld filled with three distinct groups: Psy, Changeling and human. Like Slave to Sensation, Visions features a strong Psy female and a delicious Changeling male.

Faith Nightstar is an FPsy, a foreseer, who is worth untold millions to the Nightstar clan due to her ability to foresee economic changes in the future. She has been making predictions since the age of 3 and not one of her predictions, unless intervened, has been wrong. As any valuable asset, Faith has been protected and hidden for all of her life. FPsy's often go mad toward the latter end of their usability and then the Psy use those people for parts or scientific study. Faith has been able to stave off madness, but she has some concerns when she begins to have strange, non financially related visions. These visions lead her to seek out Sascha Duncan, the Psy who dropped out of the network and the only person who would not seek to betray or mislead Faith.

Sascha Duncan lives with her Changeling family and this puts Faith in close proximity to Vaughan, a Dark River sentinel. Vaughan's cat, the jaguar, is intensely interested in Faith. The cat's need for sensory input juxtaposed against Faith's physiological abhorrence for touch made for immediate conflict. Beyond Faith's predisposition for mental instability is the present danger in the from of a killer who is strangling Psy women, starting with Faith's sister. Faith must seek out the killer on the Psy Net, cope with Vaughan's physical demands and find a place for herself in a changing world.

The challenges I had with this book were episodes of inappropriate lusting despite the justification of the jaguar's nature. I also found the time spent on the Psy Net to be a bit difficult to follow and, at times, a bit repetitive of Slave to Sensation. I hate to say that a story is too complex, but at times, it was for me.

I was really intrigued by a couple of characters deftly introduced and that was Faith Nightstar's father, Anthony Kyriakus, who isn't all that he is portrayed to be and Kaleb Krychek, a contender for the Psy Council. I think that rebellion is brewing within the Psy and I am anxious to see how that plays out in future books.

Fans of Slave to Sensation, and those who like Linda Howard and Christine Feehan, won't be disappointed. B.

Yay plot! I’m not here for the sexy times, more for the plot/how psychic powers work in this series/etc. IMO Vaughn came off as too... intense when he first met Faith, he needed to bopped and a reminder of No means No damnit! Because he kept touching her without her permission... but he did get better.

As always when i read a second or third installment in a series, I am a bit wary. Sometimes I am so disappointed that I rarely read any of the books that follow, but I have to say that Nalini Singh has done it again!

Singh takes you back to the world of the PSY NET and this time it covers Faith Nighstar a powerful but isolated F-Psy whose talents lay in foretelling the future. Faith had been conditioned and taught that F-Psy at one point went insane. Those who reached that state either disappeared or had their minds completely wiped out.

What Faith didn't know what that a certain jaguar changeling, was going to change her life forever.

I suggest reading Singh's Slave to Sensation to get a feel for all the characters that are mentioned in this novel. I am looking forward to Judd's story..the only thing I don't like about it..is waiting for it to come out!!

The plot is intriguing but I felt like the relationship between Vaughn and Faith was rushed. She has been practically in isolation her entire life and is worried about seizures from not much stimulation to fast. this warning is what the author keeps reiterating throughout 3/4 of the book. But then Faith goes from timid and over stimulated with the simplalist of touches to jumping into bed with Vaughn. Even though I found the plot interesting, I doubt I will continue with the series. I was starting to lose interest near the end of the book.

I've come to realise that Nalini Singh's books are not my thing. I tried one before this, and that was dry, but this starts off the same way--it tells me everything and what makes it worse is that the Psy characters have no emotions anyway, so everything is white on white cardboard, except we're supposed to read it! It is so dry and it tells too much. Is the author afraid we won't understand if she doesn't tell us things straight out? Or, I don't know, merge the telling into the story so it doesn't read like a textbook?

Visions of Heat is the second installment in Singh's Psy-Changelings series. It is not as good as book 1. There were some similarities between Faith, the heroine of this book, and Sascha, the heroine of book 1, as each struggled with her identity and the idea that she was unique among her race, and maybe a little 'damaged'. However, Faith and Vaughn's story was less compelling and there were a lot of unexplored possibilities with the storyline. The result is that the story fell a bit flat at times, and felt really long at times. I actually found that the best part of this book was the fact that the Sascha and Lucas were featured as strong secondary characters.

That said, the world Singh has created as the backdrop for the series is fascinating and there are a number of intriguing secondary characters, whose stories will I am sure be explored in depth in the books to come. I love the different changeling clans and the Psy Council. I am definitely looking forward to reading more about them. I just hope Singh finds new and interesting storylines for her characters: no more damaged heroines, with white knights (or felines as the case has been) to the rescue.

This is a different world, the world of humans but especially of the Psy and the Changelings. It is a story of escape from the sinister Council of the Psy, it is a love story, and there are intriguing hints that there may be beginning rebellion within the ranks of the Psy - a developing theme that I expect to be more fully explored in the next book.
This is the second of the series, but both 1st and 2nd are complete in itself, not like those annoying books of a series that end halfway through the story.
I enjoyed every word of this book.

Ok, I picked up this book not really knowing what to expect. I'm more the angel/demon/vampire/fairy/werewolf kind of reader so I was curious about the whole psy-changling premise. So glad I started reading it because I really like it. Two books in and I'm so into reading the whole series and the characters are so interesting and likeable. Unlike some other series books I've picked up in the past and after one book had absolutely no interest in reading the rest of the series.

This book had a lot of similar characteristics of book 1 in this series. While I still enjoyed the world and characters this author created, this storyline just didn’t captivate me as much as previous book. I'm really not sure if this is a series I will continue. It's pretty pricey. This book is currently listed at $5.99 which I find a bit steep. I may continue on this series at a later date but for now I'm not that eager to move onto book 3.

clara dearmore strom
Nalini Singh's first novel in this world, 'Slave To Sensation', released last year was a fresh addition to the urban fantasy genre. Her world was peopled by three groups - humans, changelings (werewolves) and the Psy. The Psy were the heirs to Mr Spock's world, emotionless people in a constant Vulcan mind-meld with each other; the Psy world of Silence had the benefit of no evil, murders etc but the disadvantage of no emotions. But was there really no evil? And when Sascha a cardinal (very powerful) Psy started to think she was losing her mind and started investigating the outside world of changelings, she discovered that the PsyNet has its problems and its ruthlessness.

The events in 'Visions of Heat' take place a couple of months after Sascha's 'defection' to the animals. Faith NightStar, our heroine, knows of Sascha, despite being confined for her whole life in a facility. This is because Faith is very important - and lucrative - to her family; she is an F-Psy, a Forseer, able to foresee with 100% accuracy market trends and other business data. Although this talent is colossally useful and gives the families with the rare F-Psy a huge amount of income generation, it is also a very dangerous talent; lots of F-Psy go insane very early on and few retain their marbles into their fifties. Faith is in her mid twenties but now she's wondering if her days of sanity are coming to an end as she starts to experience visions of murder and evil, not just economics information. She decides to sneak out of the compound where she lives to take a look at the outside world and, more importantly, to try and contact Sascha, the only Psy to ever escape the PsyNet, to see if Sascha can help her.

Vaughn D'Angelo, a jaguar changeling, has been watching the compound for some time, drawn to it for reasons that he doesn't understand. When he meets Faith and takes her to Sascha he tries to help her to move outside her Psy nature with systematic desensitisation - in other words, he touches her a lot. She's afraid it will cause her to have a seizure but she has to push the boundaries and learn what is truth and what is just Psy conditioning that has been forced on her.

Underlying this story is the murderer whose visions Faith is seeing and who she wants to stop. However this side of the story isn't that important, the overall focus is on Faith and Vaughn and their relationship. Faith does an awful lot of changing, learning, growing in this book; Vaughn doesn't seem to change much at all.

Although I did enjoy this story it didn't quite work as well for me as 'Slave To Sensation'. It's difficult understanding the world of the Psy as so much is going on in their heads and it's difficult for the reader to fully engage in it. It's a complex world, and an interesting one, and the characters are varied and all have their own issues, but the central story in this book for me had less power. There's a little taster in the back of this printing of the next book, 'Caressed By Ice', focusing on Judd Lauren. This sample chapter looked very interesting so I'm looking forward to that book and hoping that it will have that little extra that 'Slave To Sensation' had which was perhaps lacking in this story.

Cardinal F-Psy Faith NightStar is the most successful foreseer the Psy have. Since the power of foresight tends to drive its inhabitants crazy, F-Psy have the highest rates of insanity of any other designation. To keep them tame and ensure the use of their powers for as long as possible, the F-Psy are often isolated and raised without touch or interaction with others. Faith is the classic example and when she sees her shields begin to break down, she knows that her mind can't be far behind. She decides to seek help from the only other Psy she knows who has managed to escape from the PsyNet, Sascha Duncan.

Vaughn D'Angelo is a sentinel in the DarkRiver leopard pack and right-hand man to pack Alpha Lucas Duncan. When Faith seeks his alpha's assistance, Vaughn is there to ensure that Lucas and his mate are protected. What he doesn't bank on is that he will be so attracted to the red-haired foreseer. Before he knows what he's doing, Vaughn has marked her and begun to break down all the lonely walls behind which Faith is trapped. The real question, however, is if they can survive together once Faith turns her back on the only life she's ever known.

Visions of Heat is the second in the Psy-Changeling series (after Slave to Sensation, which tells Lucas and Sascha's story). I have to say that I enjoyed the first book more, but I still like the direction this series is going. The changelings as a group are possessive, family-oriented, and willing to do anything for pack, which I enjoy. Their males are fiercely protective and sacrifice themselves constantly to ensure their mates are protected. The Psy, on the other hand, are an almost emotionless bunch, ruthless for their lack of feeling and without any hint of remorse. The two who have been main characters so far, Sascha and Faith, are both flawed in that they feel emotion and can find comfort in touch. That is what's taking some getting used to for me. Regardless, I'm still interested in this series and look forward to seeing what else Nalini Singh has in store.

I picked up the first in the series "Slave to Sensation" on impulse at a second-hand book store. This one I bought the first day it was in Barnes and Noble. I made a special trip to get it. Ms. Singh is a wonderful writer who has begun a great series. It has captivated me like no other since the "Dark" series by Ms. Feehan. Others have summerized the plot so I will not.

Please support this writer. I hope that she publishes others in this series quickly. The only thing difficult about discovering a new author at the beginning of a series is having to wait for others to be published. The preview at the end of the book for her next "Caressed by Ice" really makes me wish it were available NOW.

I so keep hoping this series gets better, but after reading the second one, I'm losing all hope. The characters are likable but the story just doesn't take you there. I found this book after searching for paranormal romance, so far that doesn't happen until about page 240ish. Not long after that the book is coming to an end.

But since I'm a sucker for finishing a series I intend to read the next one, wish me luck

I liked this 2nd book in the series better than the first. Although the first was laying down the groundwork for the series, it was too technical at times. This book seemed to be the starting point of the romance. I like the creative blend of science fiction and paranormal romance. The story continues to build not only between the characters but also the series as a whole. I am glad to have read that the author does plan a climax for the series and possible the end of Silence. After just reading the Hunger Games series, this was a perfect transition back into the work of paranormal romance.

I have to iterate my opinion on Nalini Singh - she is a great writer. Usually once you pick up the second book there are bound to be so many repetitions in the hero's traits that the rest of the book/series becomes predictable. Not so in this case. Yes, there are certain similarities in the character because we are speaking about a species with certain characteristics. We also know how the book will ultimately end (it is a romance - there are rules for writing one), but how we will get to it is not absolutely predictable.
I enjoyed reading this installment and I am looking forward to the other books.

After reading Slave to Sensation several months ago, I was very pleased to be able to sit down with book 2 of the series, Visions of Heat. I love Nalini Singh's writing style and find that her books are a very quick read for me.

All of Nalini's characters are likeable to some degree or other. I really enjoy how she sets up her story arc's and the depth of interaction between Faith and Vaughn and Faith and her Father was very well done.

I really enjoy this series and the new spin it puts on an old idea. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the supernatural genre.

For a second book author to be elevated to brand name author status and an immediate purchase is a first for me. However, this writer can twist and turn a story and your heart until all your interest is committed to the characters and finishing the book. Her world building seems darn flawless to me. Additionally, the villians are not only motivated, strong and dangerous (all key to building an involving story) but also have vibrant back-stories that make us want to know more about them and what caused them to turn out---so--very--bad. Hooray for another great new author to add to the pile!

Singh's SLAVE TO SENSATION tops my list of favorite books of all time. The world she has created is both amazing and frightening...to imagine what it would be like to have our emotions locked away inside, banished, is truly scary. In VISIONS OF HEAT, as with SLAVE TO SENSATION, Singh's characters come alive. I ache with them, I cry with them, I cheer them on!

I have recommended these books to friends, who have read them and completely agreed with me, and then passed them on to their friends. Don't miss these!

Only two books into the Psy-Changeling series and I'm already addicted. I love the world that Singh's created here. The machine like Psy with their "Silenced" emotions, remind me of a cross between Star Trek's borg and vulcan. The Changelings are primal, raw and full of emotion. All it takes is a bit of that heat to bring these Psy out of their shells and it is a fun cat/mouse game to read. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Very decent alpha heroes, and wonderful, competent heroines. Lots of suspenseful action. And the world building that goes into this series by Nalini Singh is awesome. I was anxiously awaiting this sequel to Slave to Sensation and found it to be almost as good as the first book. The main female character, Faith Nighstar, was compelling and Vaughn, the male changeling jaguar was perfect. He was patient, kind, and willing to let Faith warm up to him. I felt there wasn't as much plot line in this one as the first with the DarkRiver and SnowDancer clans, but it was highly entertaining and had a very slow and lovely romance. I highly recommend this series.

I loved the first installment in this series, "Slave to sensation". I was hopeing the second book would be hotter, sexier and the chemestry more intense. Unfortunatly I was disappointed. Not even the action grabbed me. It just left me wanting...

As the intensity of Vaughn's feelings were believable. Faith left me feeling nothing. She is an emotionless "Psy", but even after disconnecting from the all so consuming PsyNet she was still not what I hoped she would be. After reading "Slave to sensation", I wanted this book to be more intense. I hoped and hoped for some heat and action but it never fully got there.

I still love this new world. I will read the third installment but I hope Judd and Brenna's story will heat up and not disappoint.

I'm a big believer in giving a series more than one book to draw me in. I'm so glad I did with this series. While I enjoyed the first book and the premise of Singh's world, I didn't fall in love with Sascha and Logan as readily as I did with Faith and Vaughn. After reading so many strong reviews I had high expectations for this book. I did not read the first in the series and can assure other potential readers that it did not not effect my understanding of the plot. Although the hero of the story, Vaughn, seems to be delectable, I found the heroine boring and lacking even after she goes through her change and regains her emotions. Also, the ending of the book was wrapped up very nicely with little to no conflict. These things left me feeling that the book was overall flat in emotion. Thus, the three stars.

I was a little nervous picking this book up, because Slave to Sensation set the bar very high indeed. But Nalini Singh does not dissapoint, she continues to build the world she created in StS superlatively. Both Faith and Vaughn are really good leads, but what really shines here is the concept she has created.

You get many hints of changes to come in the world of the Psy, and the hero of the next book, Judd Lauren, is about as facinating as it gets....Highly reccomend this series!

I admit that I started with the sixth book in this series. I was a little confused but I fell SO in love with the characters and the concept of this world. I went from there and loved all the wolves and even the minor stories, Nalini had me as a fan for life. so I decided to go back and read the beginning of the series.
So glad I did not start here!
The male lead was so pushy and arrogant to the point that the poor heroine was in PAIN! I thought this was not a BMSD book. He didnt understand everything he was doing was bad, but he had some idea, and he did it anyway! I don't get how Faith fell in love with that.
Also, nothing happens in this book. I was so bored. There wasn't even a good explanation about how Faiths visions worked.
At least it was worth it to meet Kaleb and the NetMind.
I feel terrible criticizing Ms. Singh, but the cats are not the sexy, playful, coy demigods they seemed to be. I want to claw their balls off.
