Wonderfully written, as almost everything from Mark Twain. Unfortunately, it can be easily misinterpreted as quite racist, but if you understand that the author is being ironic then you'll have a great time.

The look at society's assumptions about colored folk was startling. I, for one, forgot how "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" could be so entertaining: rich with Mark Twain's humor and for us now, educational about how things really were. The end, while a little disappointingly unrealistic, nevertheless wrapped up just what the title proclaims and Twain emphasizes throughout -- a wonderful adventure story.

This book has been reviewed to death: I will only echo Hemingway's criticism that the final few chapters of the story are a bit disappointing. Other than this, it is a wonderful depiction of life in the 1830's Mississippi. A great read!

I read this book in high school (luckily, mine had the sense not to ban it as "racist"). Mark Twain knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote what he wrote, and that's why we're still talking about it all these years later.

Huckleberry Finn is a classic! How could you possibly go wrong? There are a couple of instances throughout the text where I've questioned the narrator's ability to know/not know certain things (such as the exact time in the middle of the night at one point while traveling down the river, to his inability to do the same later in the book), but regardless...it's a classic!!

In my English class, we were reading this book and I must say, it was pretty good! The only complaint I have is that it repeated itself over and over again. Other than that, I got into the book and it was entertaining for a school assigned book. I would recommend this to anyone looking for interesting adventures.

Deep South politically incorrect read - If you can get through the crazy dialect of these folks for two thirds of the book, the last third will keep you laughing. Loved the antics of Huck and Tom trying to plan Jim's escape!

Built upon the Tom Sawyer story, examining ambition versus obligations. Characters are placed in a constant crucible of choice with evil characters choosing incorrectly almost always. Good characters seem to choose whimsically, arbitrary decisions that are rarely enlightened. Straight lines of consequence are drawn for the bad, with occasional respite from punishment with some type of temporary reward. Bad is never satisfied, and good receives a happy ending.
Societal laws are always being challenged. The author exposes concepts based on intelligence versus social standing. Those with affluence, although hard working, are rarely clever.
Rather wordy at times the story wraps up very quickly with a nice bow. A potential for another book is planted at the end. Adventure is always given the premium position above all else. Knowing a little about the author's life, I believe he tried to live the same with more consideration for comfort... Unfortunately I feel the Tom Sawyer character is exposed as very selfish and slightly lessened in this story.

Finished it for the second time...not like reading Dostoyevsky, but Mr. Clemens does keep me consistently entertained. I still laugh out loud during select parts of it, and I love going home to the South occasionally and hearing some of the same old phrases as many of the book's characters use.

Everyone should read tom sawyer and Huck Finn as written. not the watered down comic version of today. it is an enjoyable story and more importantly, it lends a human side to a time when people in retrospect want to make everything seem to be either good or bad, no middle.

Being a retired first grade teacher this book reminded me of the inner workings of the young male brain. Hilariously funny, Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer go from one exciting adventure to the next always managing to stay one step ahead of the rest of the characters. The setting and language are of days gone by, but the plot and never ending shenanigans of two little boys kept me hooked. Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer are two characters that stand the test of time.

Mark Twain is a genius! He took a supporting character from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and transformed him into an amazing main character and narator of this book. Huck Finn's feelings of his surroundings in the book are relatable to everyone, as we have all had to deal with a phony, a friend who is in trouble, and reuniting with an old pal. Twain uses history of life on the Mississppi River and a great story to create this unforgettable book.
