Fabulous read! The science was quite believable, Mr. Rollins clearly did a lot of top-notch research prior to the book. The fiction was not too far-fetched, pacing was right on point, and the character development was adequate. The characters themselves were compelling, especially the villain and his consort. I would highly recommend this book, my first by James Rollins, and am very keen to read the next one.

As usual, James Rollins has such an interesting style of writing that it draws you fast forward without you being aware of it. Even if you are not a fan of science fiction or future science, the characters draw you in until you are there, involved in the middle of the story. The writing pulls at you, drawing you faster and faster like the pull of white water rapids on a oarless canoe. Plan on reading this when you have plenty of time, because once you start, it will be impossible to stop.

The book was exceptional....one of the best I have ever read. Contraire to top critics comments, I did not find flaws in the book at all. It was non-stop action and so well written. It should be made into a movie. I could not put the book down. I could easily visualize the whole book. This is the first book I have read by this author....I will no-doubt read a good share more. If you you like suspense, intrigue, romance and incredible imagination, this is the book for you. Knowing the rain forest wields a wealth of unknown medicines, strange animals, reptilians, insects, tribespeople and has a definite affect on our earth's well-being.....this book is a MUST READ.

The storyline was good, however predictable. The conclusions that were made by the main characters would be pulled from thin air, and there wasn't really time alotted while reading to make us (the reader) formulate our own ideas.

Every page was filled with adventure, I couldn't put it down. Love stories of lost tribes in the Jungle or looking for magic health cures. This book had me guessing at every step of the way and kept me in suspense. I love it.

the storeia was exciting and interesting from the start until the middle of the book, but I thought the ending was weak and it limped to the finish line. The characters seemed to get less dimensional as the story unfolded, until by the end it was hard for me to care about what happened to them. Maybe he threw in too many characters and the focus was lost. I thought the outlandish sci-fi like elements didn't work well either, and were unnecessary (the jaguar hybrids). Still, for much of its length this book was quite thrilling, too bad it didn't sustain it.

Nice action-packed book for those who love adventure! It's not the best I've read but this book was exciting in a predictable way. The hero was fun and just corny enough to imagine a comic book being created for him. The jungle was dangerous and the plot was formulaic. So what!!?? It was fun to read and I would have loved to see this as a movie. Get it!

Again, James Rollins amazes me. His research to write most be exhausting. Recently I found a natural cure on the market that has helped me. His books opens a new world to me. This time botanical cures while entertaining me and let's me enter his world of storytelling. Onto the next.

Riveting! Exciting! Heart-racer! Came across this book by accident and will now definitely read other Rollins books! He definitely knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat, reading just one more page--then one more! Very exciting. Don't miss this one.

You've got incredible the storeian monsters, very bad people up against very good people, tons of exciting battles and explosions, but combined with the unusual well developed characters, on both sides (but mostly on the good side) that make the book an incredibly enjoyable read.

James Rollins never fails to come up with fiction with just enough fact mixed in to make you think maybe this could happen. the storeia does just that by taking us to a place with so much unexplored area that anything could happen and does.

This fan of imaginative science fiction and life sciences was really satisfied. Only objection was the violent depictions of primitve individuals with tools and the detailed demise of some explorers in dense jungle.
