If the first novel in Ally Carter's Gallagher Girl series was as much about setting the stage and giving the back story as it was about Cammie Morgan's first boyfriend, this - the second novel in the series - is all about delving into the world of the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women. The pace of Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy is significantly faster than that of I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You and the plot of this second novel is more complex and fully engaging. Cammie and her friends still have that wonderful mix of a genius level espionage education and complete naiveté when it comes to boys (except for Macey, of course, whose skill sets are reversed) and it's that juxtaposition that makes this series so much fun to read.

After having her first boyfriend and then giving him up to continue her training as a spy, Cammie Morgan returns to Gallagher for the second semester of her sophomore year firmly resolved to live by the rules. She's determined to forget about boys and stay out of trouble. Of course, such wholesale resolutions are often hard to stick to and Cammie's plans are upended in a way she never imagined would be possible - boys, specifically boy spies, are going to be spending the semester at Gallagher. As if boys in general weren't bad enough, one boy in particular, Zachary Goode, is maddening in every way possible and Cammie doesn't know if she can trust him, or even why she wants to.

Events take a decided turn for the alarming when Gallagher security is breached and Cammie is suddenly the prime suspect. It's forcefully brought home to Cammie and her friends that they know very little about the boys from the Blackthorne Institute. That's an oversight they'll need to correct if they want to find out who is threatening Gallagher and why.

I actually liked this one even better than the first! While I really enjoyed getting to know Cammie in the first Gallagher Girls book, I found the secondary characters to really shine here.

SPOILERS BELOW!

The book starts off with Cammie and her friends having another Covert Ops assignment where they have to try and avoid being seen by some other unknown spies. Cammie thinks she's done well, and even takes time to flirt with some cute boys, until she finds out that the boys are the spies and they're from a rival school! Oops!

Cammie and her friends return to school a little worse for the wear, and suddenly have to solve another mystery - why is there a wing of their school closed? Why are the teachers lying about it?

Zach, the new love interest for Cammie, is SO much more fun and interesting than Josh. While Cammie is still pining away for Josh, she can't help but be intrigued by Zach (and neither could I!).

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy reads a lot like the first book - meaning it's quick and easy and cute and fun. I'm definitely going to be continuing on with this series

Cammie Morgan returns from winter break to a debriefing at the super secret CIA headquarters in D.C. While her whole surrounding amazes her she can't help but to be nervous as it dredges up all the old memories of Josh. On her way home from her debriefing Cammie finds that her mom is acting very weird, but when she asks her about it she simply says nothing. When Cammie finally arrives back at Gallagher Academy she is overjoyed to be reconnected with her friends and even schoolwork, except she senses that something isn't quite the same. Her suspicion is soon confirmed when it is announced that the boys of Blackthorne Academy will be spending the semester at Gallagher Academy. Having never really been exposed to boys all the girls are shocked and don't really know quite how to handle the situation. While most girls are head over heels excited about the boys' visit, Cammie and her friends are a little skeptical. Even though she's a little hesitant Cammie can't help falling into a hard to read relationship with Blackthorne cutie Zach. Will Cammie figure out her relationship with Zach? Are the Blackthorne boys at Gallagher for a good reason, or are they up to no good?

I was really excited about reading this book as I really, really liked the first one, I'd Tell You I Love You, but Then I'd Have to Kill You. I liked this book almost as much as the first one. The story was still great and the book was jam packed with lots of adventure, but I found Cammie wallowed a little too much in this book. Other then that though the book was great. I loved all of the spy adventure that was going on and especially loved the girl power! I think this series is almost like a girl version of Alex Rider, except Cammie's not as adventurous, yet! I also really liked how Cammie grew as a person in this book. She started off a little shaky, but then resolved all her trust problems and returned to the good old Cammie we knew in the first book. As always with these kind of books though the ever so talented Ally Carter left us hanging on a thread as to what was going to happen next! All the information regarding the next book in the series, including the title, is highly top secret, but I do know that it is in the works and I cannot wait.

Cameron Morgan attends the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women where, unknown to the outside world, she is training to be a spy. She first stole our hearts in Ally Carter's I'D TELL YOU I LOVE YOU, BUT THEN I'D HAVE TO KILL YOU. Ms. Carter's second novel, CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO SPY, is a fast-paced Gallagher Girls sequel that you won't be able to put down.

In the first novel, Cammie falls for Josh, a regular boy from the village who crashes her final exam. CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO SPY begins as Cammie is debriefed about her ex-boyfriend, aka, The Subject. She wonders if he even remembers her, if she'll ever see him again, or if she even wants to. She promises her mother, the headmistress of Gallagher, that she's finished with lying and sneaking around, unless under cover, of course, and that she'll never let a boy compromise her judgment again. Ready to focus on her classes, it's an easy promise to make. But it's not long before Cammie realizes how difficult that promise will be to keep.

She overhears her mother tell her Covert Operations teacher, "Cammie doesn't know anything." They discuss something called Blackthorne. Her mother tells the girls of the academy that the East Wing is closed due to contamination by fumes from the chemistry labs. But Cammie knows there's no way that's possible. "There is no ventilation access from the chem labs to the East Wing," she says.

Cammie and her friends are forced to launch their own covert operation to discover more about the fifteen male spies who have moved in as guests of the academy. She wonders why she is continually paired with Zach, and how he knows so much about her and the secret passages within the academy. When the academy's security is breached, knowing who you can trust becomes a matter of life and death.

If you haven't read Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls novels, you are seriously missing out on a fabulous experience. CROSS YOUR HEART AND HOPE TO SPY was every bit as good as Ms. Carter's first Gallagher Girls novel. Her third book, DON'T JUDGE A GIRL BY HER COVER, is due to be released in June. I'm putting in a Pre-Order and hoping that I'll see these books on the big screen.

In the first book, spy-in-training Cammie "The Chameleon" Morgan dealt with boy trouble in the form of her first boyfriend, normal guy Josh. Now, after being debriefed by the CIA about her relationship with Josh, Cammie experiences a new kind of boy trouble: the Blackthorne Boys, students from a top-secret spy school for boys. While most of the Gallagher Girls are excited to have boys in their usually all-girls school for a semester, Cammie is not so sure. Especially since one of the Blackthorne Boys is Zach Goode, a cocky but sweet guy who she first meets when he bests her in a training exercise. Adding to her confused feelings for Zach, Cammie becomes suspicious of the Blackthorne Boys' motives when a Code Black threatens the entire school after their arrival. With the help of her friends, Cammie tries to uncover the truth--and decide what to do about Zach.

I read the first book in this series and found it a quite enjoyable young adult novel. I read this book and became a devoted fan. Everything that was fun in the first book is still here: Cammie's wry narrative, her great group of friends who don't hesitate to use their spy skills to do something like bug the boys' dorm, a dash of romance and, of course, the wish fulfilment of going to an exclusive spy school. Like before, Cammie must deal with very normal teen situations--the awkward run-in with an ex-boyfriend, a school dance, etc.--where her spy skills can't always help her (although they do often lead to funny commentary or creative/unconventional solutions). Added to all this is the great addition of Blackthorne and, especially, Zach who I absolutely love--I've got a weak spot for rascals-with-a-heart-of-gold in fiction.

I absolutely cannot wait until the third Gallagher Girls book comes out. The author has said that she is currently envisioning six books total in this series and I will read every one. I really want to read more about Cammie and her friends' exploits and see what happens with her relationships with both Zach and Josh (which is shaping up into a juicy romantic triangle). Highly recommended and one of the best non-fantasy YA series I've come across.

Those Gallagher Girls sure are a batch of tough cookies. Unless they happen to be confronted by the "mysterious guests" promised on the cover of Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy, that is. If you enjoyed book one, get ready to love book two. To borrow an idea from Cammie, I offer a list.
1. Josh? Josh? Oh yes, I think I vaguely remember someone by that name.
2. Boyfriend, no. Promises were made about that while hooked up to a lie detector in a secret underground CIA bunker. So unless Cammie wants to be a liar...
3. But that wouldn't just be telling a lie, it would require living a lie. Hey, wait a minute, isn't that what Gallagher prepares these exceptional young women to do? Really, how likely is she to get caught unless...
4. What if there's someone much better at this lying-hiding-stealing secrets thing than teachers and students at Gallagher?
OK, so you're likely to have the thief spotted and figured out before Cammie and friends. And you may think about the word "predictable" for a fraction of a second. It's still completely worth it. You'll be hooked before you can say "mysteriously off-limits east wing."

This is just a fun series.

Seriously. I LOVE reading about Cammie's escapades through the school - her thoughts on rappelling, the bra incident (you'll know what I mean if you read it), how she works with her friends to bug rooms - it's just so much fun to read. Cammie is an interesting character, her friends are interesting, and it's believable. Well, ignoring the whole spy thing.

Also - the new boy Zach is much sexier than Josh. Just saying.

It's not a difficult read, or a particularly deep one, but it's great when you just want to sit and read something good. Not moving. Not with characters that you fall in love with. Just an honest, genuinely good book.

Besides, even my sister likes them, and she's super picky on what she reads. (She's already finished the series; I'm behind her! Eek!)

Gallagher girls series is absolutely AMAZING!! I'm a 15 year old girl in high school and I love reading! I'm usually into supernatural stuff or fantasy, but this series was so GOD DAMN GOOD!!! It was exhilarating all the way through. There were times when I literally almost jumped. There were times when I felt joy and despair. There were times when I laughed and cried in these books. I recommend this series to anyone who wants some drama, action and love. This series has it all. Starting from friendship, to family, and to boys...I'm very excited to read the last book though I still don't know when it's coming out. If you're into spy stuff and still haven't read this series, the question why are you alive? :)

I'm not sure why the Gallagher Girls never considered the fact that there may be a boys school similar to theirs, but they soon discover its existence when 15 of its students arrive at their school. The boys spend the semester taking classes at the Gallagher Academy as part of an exchange program. The board thought that it would benefit both the boys and girls if they could learn to communicate and work together.

This is when we meet Zach. He is cute, charming, and definitely up to something. When a security breach takes place at the Gallagher Academy, Cammie and her friends take it upon themselves to complete a thorough investigation. Of course, their first suspects are the new arrivals...aka...the boys.

This is a fast paced and absolutely adorable story. It is even better than the first book in the series.

Cammie attends Gallagher Academy for spies. Cammie's mother is headmistress and is keeping something from Cammie. Cammie and her roommates, intend to find out what it is. They hide in the walls of their school and listen to her mother talking to Mr. Solomon about Blackthorne. They don't know what Blackthorne is. The girls quickly learn Blackthorne is a boy's school for spies. Cammie is blamed for a security breach which leaves the school's top secrets at risk. Cammie and her friends crawl thru walls surveilling their school to learn more about Blackthorne. They have to succeed to clear Cammie's name. My opinion of this book is the authors words keep you wanting more. This is an amazing book and the author does a fantastic job describing the life of spies. I wanted to see if I could recognize everything a spy would. Like when Mr. Solomon asks a girl "Two men are playing chess in the southwest corner of the square. How many moves from checkmate is the man in the green cap?". You must read this fictional novel Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter, to find out if Cammie and her friends ruin their lives or fate of their school. Before reading this book, read I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You, the first book in the Gallagher Girls series. I recommend this book for girls who like to be engaged in the book.

My Thoughts: Another adventure from the Gallagher Girls! Cammie is back with her friends! I was a little bummed after the first book, when she couldn't be with Josh but now a bunch of boys are coming to the school and it will will no longer be a girl's school for the time being. Cammie meets Zach, one of the boys from the other school. She instantly tries to dislike him but theres definitely chemistry there! I instantly liked him! I love the adventures the girls go on, I loved the awkward moments when Cammie sees her ex Josh in town, I love the spy missions they need to get through. I love this whole series! I can't wait to read the third book! I really hope Zach is in the next book but I refuse to read any spoilers.

Overall: Loved Loved Loved it!

WARNING: BIG SPOILER ALERT!
This sequel to "I'd tell you..." was amazing. I loved that Cammie was abe to grow past her first love, even if it was a little hard for me to let go of Josh. The mystery in the whole book had me clinging to Cammie's every word. Her humor was there throughout the book too. All in all, a great book.

Have you ever wondered if your loved ones keep secrets from you? Well, in Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy, by Ally Carter, Cammie Morgan must keep secrets from many people in her life. Cammie is a spy in training at the Gallagher Academy for "gifted girls." In order to be a spy she must hide many things from outsiders and even other spies. The setting of this story is in Washington D.C. at the Gallagher Academy. I think the theme of this story is friendship. Since the Blackthorne boys (who are spies as well) are staying at Cammie's school, she must learn to become friends with and trust them. The other main character, besides Cammie, is a boy from Blackthorne, named Zack Goode. At the beginning of the book, Zack and Cammie are total strangers. But, as the book progresses on you can tell that they both start to develop crushes on each other.
I think that this book is wonderful and keeps you turning the page. There are just so many mysterious events that happen and make you want to keep on reading. For instance, you have no idea why the Gallagher Academy has two code blacks until the very end. The genre of this book is probably chick-lit because it is mostly geared towards female readers. I would strongly recommend this book for any girls from ages twelve to seventeen. Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy is truly an amazing book which is very adventurous and keeps you glued to every page.

So... We are back at the Gallagher Academy, a secret spy school for girls, and we are reunited with all together almost-perfect spy, Cammie Morgan. Cammie's mother is the school principal, her father died on a secret mission, and a new teacher (Mr. Solomon) seems to be a little too familiar with Cammie's family. We start out the book with Cammie being tested to make sure that she will stay away and not communicate with "The Subject" aka Josh. Through the begining of the book we are taking part in weird happenings at the academy and then we are trying to find out what BLACKTHORNE really is. Once we find out that Blackthorne is a secret spy school for BOYS (thanks to Cammie's EXCELENT spywork) we also find out that the Blackthorne boys are coming to Gallagher and we don't know if they are there to stay. Cammie is introduced to a Blackthorne boy named Zach who seems to take a very strong interest in Cammie and becomes VERY suspicious. Cammie runs into Josh on a mission with Zach and leads him to believe that Zach is her Boyfriend. Bex, Liz and Massie all come back and are better friends then ever! Altogether, in the end of the day... it's a TRUE spy ending that you don't want to miss out on. Will Cammie be with Zach again? Will Cammie go back to Josh? Does Josh REALLY not remember Cammie's BIGGEST secret? We won't know FOR SURE unless we read this and it still keeps us guessing and waiting for Gallagher Girls book three to come out! Have fun!
I loved this book and i hope everyone else will too! Be sure to read it, the worst that will happen is that you won't like it ( yeah right!) and you can just put it down! This book deserves its five stars! I was worried that it wouldn't be as good as the first book but i was proven wrong! For ANY age.
I hope you enjoyed my review! Check out my others!

This is an amazing series! The books have a really interesting setting (aka spy school) the writing is fabulous and the characters just seem so real! I think you can easily identify with the main character, Cammie, but many of her friends, like Macey or her aunt Abby, who appears later in the series, are brilliant as well. I can definitely recommend it!

My friend lent me her copy the 1st of the Gallagher Girl books last year, and I absolutely LOVED it!
So, when I heard the second one was out, (With out my knowlegde, too!) I HAD to have it...But I had no money. My birthday was fast aprraching so I used a chunk of my Birthday money to buy this rather than waiting to recive it as a gift or something.
I anxiously, (did I spell that right?) awaited the book's arival, and was so excited when it FINNALLY got here.
I dove right in, and I got exactly what I expected. (In a good way, not the I already know where this book is going after the 1st chapter kinda way)
My conclusion is that 'Cross My Heart & Hope to Spy' is as good as, if not better, than 'I'd Tell you I love you, but then I'd Have to Kill you'
I CANNOT wait for the next Gallagher Girl book comes out, (& this time, I'm pre-ordering)

I loved spending more time with Cammie and her crew in the second book in the Gallagher Girls series. Ally Carter found an innovative way to get, ahem, actual boys, at the Gallagher Academy. It's one thing to be a spy before you get a drivers license, but talking to boys is an entirely different beast for these girls, and watching them learn to interact with boys is tons of fun. I don't want to give away too much here. Let's just say catching up with Josh, getting to know Zach, and facing off against someone with intentions to threaten the Gallagher Girls is the perfect mix for a great story. I can't wait to read Don't Judge a Girl by her Cover.

My favorite thing about the Gallagher Girls series is how CLEAN it is. A lot of teen books today are so dark and edgy and raunchy that I cringe when I read them. But Carter's series is different. It has all the adventure, action and romance a teen girl could want without damaging my psyche. And what girl doesn't secretly wish she were a spy? :)

Cammie Morgan is an awesome character, she's quirky, and funny, and sometimes a little lost, but with the help of her three best friends, she seems to be able to work her way through the murky waters of what is her love life.
I have no idea who i like more ZACH OR JOSH. Its a hard thing to decide.
I can't wait for the next book/s.
Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls are way entertaining and are great books.

Seriously, Ally Carter has out done herself with "Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy"!
I started reading the book around 7 or 8 PM and stay up until 12 PM finishing it. I could not put it down even though I told myself many times, "Put down the book. It will be there tomorrow." It was just too addicting.
"Cross My Heart..." picks off where Ally Carter's first book "I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You" (now called LYKY) ends. After a hard winter break, Cammie's back at Gallagher Academy. She's still hurting from a break-up she did not want to happen and worried about CoveOp, her most challenging class. Loads of action happens during the 250 or so pages. I wish I could tell you more, but I'd ruin the entire book for you guys.
My mind is still reeling from finishing the book. It leaves you with some answers but even more questions.
If you haven't gotten a hold of the book yet, GO NOW!!!!

This book was really good. One of my friends read the first book and said it was good, and said that I should read it. I thought that it would be really girly, but its not, although it is a great book for those who want a girly teen book as well. The sequel is no different. There is drama, action, friendship, and boys. Overall, a really great book.
