I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed it probably a lot more than I would have if I didn't know that Dorothy Sayers is gone from us. I have read her Lord Peter books and watched the DVDs of the stories recorded
until I welcomed with open arms anything that would continue the adventures. Thanks to Jill for writing this. I am not sure that D. Sayers would have written it like this but it is engrossing and thoroughly
agreeable to be back with my favorite amateur sleuth and his wife and his personal man servant.

The author did a splendid job both of capturing the future of Peter Whimsey and Harriet Vane and tracing the history of the emeralds. I didn't begin to suspect the murderer until the third set of thefts.
The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club (The Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries Book 5) :: Whose Body? :: Have His Carcase (A Lord Peter Wimsey Mystery With Harriet Vane) :: A Lord Peter Wimsey / Harriet Vane Mystery - Thrones :: A Lord Peter Wimsey Mystery (Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries)

Dorothy Sayers is one of my favourite mistery writers with Lord Peter and Harriet becoming very close friends. Jill Paton made a wonderful work in her first book Thrones and dominations following the characters. In this book the story is great, however I miss some of the freshness they had in the 2 previous books. I hope the Dowager maintains her health and spirit living many years more. I wait expectantly for the next book

If you enjoyed the original stories, I think you will enjoy this new series. Walsh has the feel of the original tales and deals with details of his married life and its subsequent problems. A mature Lord Peter is quite unusual.

Much better than I expected. Very few books that claim to be like the original writer's books actually fulfill expectations. This one is closer than most. I have purchased another of this writer's Wimsey efforts and so far it is rather close to the style of Ms. Sayers.

This was an earlier Walsh tribute to Dorothy Sayers' Peter Wimsey canon, and doesn't quite achieve the Sayers "voice," but it was an enjoyable venture into Winsey's world. (I've now read several later Walsh Wimseys, and she gets better!) Recommended.

Although I enjoyed Jill Walsh's "collaborative" Lord Peter Wimsey novels I'm afraid she doesn't have the sparkle that made Dorothy Sayers work special. I also wasn't keen on where she decided to take the family story, I don't think Dorothy would have done that to her characters.

This story lives up to the Peter Wimsey legend and in Jill Paton Walish's words you can finally here Dorothy Sayers. Much more satisfying a mystery then Ms Walish's first attempt in Thrones and Dominations. Can't wait until the next book.

I thought this book was excellent from start to finish, I think a continuation of the life of Peter, Harriet, and their growing children would be a most excellent addition to Thrones, Dominations and A Presumption of Death. I plan to reread all of them just in case I missed something the first time.

The chief fault of Sayers' Wimsey novels is that there are too few of them. This new series by Jill Paton Walsh strives very hard for the authentic note, except, of course, in the matter of political correctness, the idol to which we all must offer incense. Anyway, more of Lord Peter is always welcome; I hope Ms. Walsh continues the series.

but still very good. Walsh continues to amaze with her faithfulness to the original characters and style. She brings Lord Peter and Harriet along into their future (our long past) with charm and the Sayers' trademark cleverness. I was so excited to fid these "continuations" I read them all with 24 hours af receiving them.

Anyone who reads and writes fan-fiction will recognize The Attenbury Emeralds for what it is: publisher endorsed fan-fiction. This is not necessarily a bad thing. PD James tried it with Jane Austin's work in her novel, Death Comes to Pemberley, but she also came through with mixed results.

It is a story based on the characters and events created by Dorothy L Sayers, and as such it has its moments, but ultimately it falls short. There are a few minor chronological problems, but those can be passed over, as LPW short stories are not as well known as the novels, and chronology is alway a problem with Sherlock Holmes-like characters. However, the major annoyance is that the scene in which Lord Peter is trotted out as a witness for the prosecution, never happens here. The case of the Attenbury emeralds is turned into a complicated muddle that left me unsatisfied. I could have more fun writing it up as my own fan-fiction to be presented on fanfiction.net, or not at all.
As fan-fiction, it's a good read, but it's not canon Sayers.

Takes Dorothy Sayers' characters from post-WWI to post-WWII in a convincing manner with a nice, complex mystery as the common thread. I have been a Sayers fan for 40 years and appreciate the witty and literate writing, though the romantic Wimsey character perhaps prevents Sayers from being a great mystery writer. I felt this book stayed true to how the actors may have aged and really enjoyed it.
