Jumper

Informative and well-written little gem of a book. I had just finished reading Walter Isaacson's biography on Einstein so this short book by Michael Paterniti was a quirky follow-up about what became of Einstein's brain after his death. I had known nothing about this topic beforehand, but enjoyed Mr. Paterniti's interweaving of his own personal story, pertinent references to Einstein's life and works, and the introduction of the pathologist who performed Einstein's autopsy and then kept the brain for reasons of his own.

Good enough story but the abundance of typos and spelling mistakes made it frustrating to read. This is a published novel people are paying for, we should be beyond the phase of 'hewent and gpt'. I expected better from the store who are usually better than other ebook companies for trivial errors like this.

Jumper the novel and Jumper the movie share little in common other than the basic premise and the character names. They're both good in their own way (I admit it, I LIKED the movie) but the novel adds far more depth to the characters and gives them much more to do.

The dialogue and relationship between David and Millie was a bit stilted at times but the larger story of David coming to grips with his ability, the fallout of running away from home, the government's pursuit of David, and the brutal plot twist that happens while he's trying to reconcile with his mother (and the quest for revenge David embarks upon) are an engrossing tale that I enjoyed reading.

The author clearly put a lot of thought into the mechanics and rules of David's ability to teleport and that was something I appreciated. All too many authors make stuff up as they go along and that leads to the characters pulling new abilities out of thin air at opportune moments to get out of each jam they get themselves into. That didn't happen here and it was refreshing to see David have to work around his limitations instead of hand waving the difficult parts away.

I really enjoyed this book all the way through. The only thing I question is the high volume of crying throughout the book. Although it's annoying, it's not enough to deter me from my 5 rating. Job well done.

Don't judge this book by the insipid Hollywood movie based on it. This is a great 'young adult' science fiction novel (or at least the protaganist is a young adult). It uses the trope of teleportation in a complex coming of age story that intertwines the themes of how alcoholism affects the family of an alcoholic, with misogony, airline hijacking era terrorism and a nice NSA sub-plot plot. Highly recommended!

A fascinating and unique read! Many passages were so well-written that I actually squealed, and I consider myself to be a reasonably good writer/reader. My only criticism is that a few times the driving got a little slow, as driving does. But the original plot and engaging characters more than made up for that. I'd highly recommend this book to people who appreciate bizarre plots and characters, which, I'm sure, includes any fan of Mr. Albert Einstein.

I found the adjectives "Black" and "Hispanic" to be used in a racist manner as at no time did the author use "white" or "caucasion." Also, the oversimplification of the Shiite and Sunni cultures felt awkward and clumsy. Otherwise, I enjoyed it.

The story is based on a nonsense premise, but well-written enough that I kept reading to the end. I often re-read a novel that I really like, but for my personal taste, this isn't a candidate for a re-read.

I really did not have any preconceived idea of this story. I must say that I enjoyed the entire book. The concept is fun and even though it is a little dark at time's it doesn't sugar coat being young and living on your own in a realistic world. A good read for someone looking for something new.

This book was an entertaining read exploring the concept of teleportation. The characters were memorable with interesting struggles. This book really captures your imagination, and you'll definitely smile to ask yourself the question, "what if... ?"
