Written in first person, Anthony shares his life story through colorful antidotes that will have you rolling from laughter and also pain. Drug addition is an ugly journey, and I have a greater appreciation for someone going through it. Anthony is a great writer, easy to read, I'm sad the book is over!

Anthony Kiedis wrote a great, albeit at times repetitive, book. In some cases it's almost like he repeats himself throughout the chapters. However, it gives good insight on where some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers songs were inspired from.

He's poetic, funny, endearing and not afraid to admit his flaws as told with poignantly brutal honesty.

This book is utterly disgusting. I don't say that because of the drugs and sex. I say that because Keidis writes about being a 12 year old who has "sex" with a 24 year old. In his life he goes on to admit to having and sometimes coercing sex from girls who are underage. None of these scenarios are ever reflected on with any kind of depth or in some cases requiring remorse.

On top of that. The book is downright boring. Keidis goes on a drug binge, has a bunch of heroine sex, decrees the person the love of his life, screws over the band, then goes to rehab. Rinse repeat. It could have used a good proof reader and editor. So sorry I spent money on this. I hope this review helps others who are considering buying the book.

The Chili Peppers are my favorite band of all time and Scar Tissue gave me awhile new appreciation for where their music comes from! I can't believe it took me this long to read this book. A real page turner. I've never been an addict but the insight in this book gives me a whole new view of what people go through...even when you've got the world at your fingertips, it's a struggle every day.

Inspirational for anyone with trauma and or addiction. Anthony is truly a great writer and artist making it difficult to put the book down. Exposed the true and hard required to heal. The music was great and this story makes the music even better. Added bonus, stop and listen to the songs that corelate to the point in time within the story. Thanks for sharing the struggles, without knwowing us, you are helping all of us who are reading, listening and feeling.

With his success in the music industry, I never thought that Anthony Kiedis battle against drug addiction was so severe and consumed his life for so long. Great history lesson on the Red Hot Chili Peppers. True story of sex, drugs and rock & roll. I read it because RHCP's are my husband's favorite band. I can't imagine what it is like to be an addict.

The book starts with Anthony sitting in his living room and writing to us. You do have the feeling of being there in that living room. He writes in a friendly but honest style. About the fun part but also the drug issues etc. The book has plenty of fun and colorful pictures in it, truly for fans!!! Enjoy.

I admire Anthony for being so honest and candid about a life full of drugs and chasing drugs. As a life long fan of RHCP I can say that I love this book because of its great stories about the climb of their success. I also love it because of the incredible guts it must have taken to write this! I only gave it 4 stars out of 5 because of the few typographical errors and verb tense errors that were a bit distracting for me to read.

Anthony is obviously not famous for his writing skills, but he's a pretty good storyteller and has had an unusual life to say the least. What strikes me the most is his authentic voice and brutal honesty. It's refreshing in a world of people who typically cover up who they really are.

Giving the rating 5 stars because I absoultely LOVE this book! Great read for any RHCP fan or someone who is looking for a crazy story to get sucked into! The book came slightly damaged though. Having weird black marks on the front of the book and weird black smudges and ash looking like substance on some pages

Addiction runs heavy in my family, and for the life of me I could never understand why my loved ones would constantly go back to the lifestyle. A friend of mine recommended this book, and I was blown away.
The brutality of Anthony's addiction was so unreal to me. It honestly gave me a firsthand look into how drugs affect your mind, life and family. The gruesome details were not spared which I actually sympathized with, he is a good person just stuck between a rock and a hard place.
You would assume some one so talented had training and a strict lifestyle but this is completely the opposite. Not only was his childhood somewhat broken, but it wasn't an easy road as an adult either. His teen years were most upsetting to me, why his father allowed a child so young into that scene, I will never understand. For reasons like that, I couldn't put this book down. It’s amazing how he directed his misfortune into music that people all over the world cherish.
This book is a real eye opener, it gives you a personal look into a dangerous world that some people manage to survive.

Cool. Always thought Anthony Keidis was a junkie for a few years (the first two albums) and then went straight edge.
Nope.
He was gettin' high most of the time.
One of the coolest members of one of the coolest bands. I thought there would be a lot more about the band and I think a really great book could be written about that, but this story about Anthony and his addicts journey is an important one.
I enjoyed it.

Listening to RHCP is one thing. Californication is a seminal work and Scar Tissue is the perfect companion to that album. Kiedis lived the first half of his life with reckless abandon and this memoir is his penance.

I really enjoyed reading Scar Tissue, yeah it's not focused on the RHCP's, more so on Kiedis' personally life which is a real roller coaster of a ride, that could have happen to any kid growing up in the punk era.
I found myself imagining what it would have been like living in California during such times and how exciting it would have been with all the fresh, new things that CA was experimenting with and making impressions which spread the whole world now.
Anthony Kiedis is a great singer songwriter and this books gives great insight into his upbringing and surroundings.
