I needed this book because stress was taking its toll. Mindfulness is something we can weave into every part of our day, and Steve & Barrie provide some excellent ideas and resources to help us create lives we deserve. The objective is not to incorporate all 71 habits but rather begin slowly to approach everything with gratitude. Highly recommended.

Easy read. Great for someone new to mindfulness. Lots of practical ideas --71 in fact! I am already doing some of the things but new suggestions to try. I appreciated that there were links as well. Helpful resource.

Many easy and practical steps that will help to build a positive life for you and those around you. Not sure that you can take this many 10mins breaks, will have to be selective in need and requirement.

I was introduced to mindfulness by a psychologist and started my practice with meditation and mindful walking. What I like about this book is that the ideas are so easy to do and make a part of everyday life. Thanks for the book. I smile and start laughing to myself every time I look in a mirror.

Excellent book full of practical suggestions on how to integrate mindfulness habits into extraordinarily busy lives. I found this book extremely helpful, well written, and the suggestions very well explained. I loved how it was broken down into suggestions for different times of the day.

Many of these mindful habits are a bit captain obvious but are we really doing them? I think basically summing it up the way the author has at the end of the book in just making sure you are aware of what you are doing in the present moment will help to be more mindful.

What started out as a thoughtful self help book quickly turned into a bibliography and referral page. If anyone did everything the '10 minute mindfulness' suggests they would simply run out of time. This is little more than a series of redundant suggestions designed for people with little else to do and feeling bad about it. Maybe this works for the Birkenstock crowd but for the rest of us living in the real world there simply isn't enough time in the day to devote to the endless series of ten minute exercises.

Steve and Barry's last book Declutter Your Mind was a tour de force in how to live a more balanced, less stressful life in all areas. With this latest book they've condensed the essence of mindfulness down into easy daily mindfulness routines. And once again, they've made sure that you can't fail. Instead of just suggesting 'get up earlier' for instance, they show you HOW to get up earlier and more importantly, how to sustain the habit. If you want an introduction to mindfulness, to lead a more conscious, be less stressed or worried this book is for you. And if you've tried mindfulness before and never made it stick, Steve and Barrie's simple, doable and sustainable exercises may be the answer.

I will admit when first asked to review this book, I was somewhat daunted. Not about mindfulness; I have been studying mindfulness for quite awhile from several different authors. No, it was the title...71 Simple Habits.... 71?!! I find it difficult enough dealing with ten or even one.
Well, the good news is that you don't have to do all 71 from the beginning. Start with just one. You will find that one leads inevitably to another and perhaps another. #1. Wake up earlier. Two hours? How about 15 minutes. You can add 15 more later on, or subtract time as you need to. You can pick and choose those that seem most appropriate for you at the time of reading; you will know which ones.
I give kudos to the authors for their choice of 71 habits. All make sense, and you are given aids to guide your practice.
I admit to being somewhat skeptical about the title "10 Minute Mindfulness," when I had been practicing for years. However, you can do each one of the practices in just 10 minutes (and then another 10 minutes each time you practice), but that is how they become habits. Try it. It really works.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for a review.

Nearly all our actions, efforts and tasks are aligned with our expectations of future. Our consciousness is busy thinking either what happened in the past or what’s up in the future. If you too feel to have lost touch with your present reality like most of us do, you’ll find a dearth of wealth of useful ideas presented in this amazing book.
“10-Minute Mindfulness” talks about 71 mindfulness habits and the beauty is that each can be done in 10 minutes or less. You don’t have to move outside your daily routine to practice the given ideas. Just add a few focused minutes to each task we do in our daily routine already and the rewards are HUGE.
This book does not suggest you must be mindful all day, everyday. You can come back to mindfulness even for a few minutes during the day and embrace it as part of the way you want to live. The objective is straight, powerful, practical and simple. You slowly develop a habit to feel and enjoy what’s happening to you and around. Consequently you make the aware choices; be responsive rather than reactive; and don’t take a route of escape when it comes to complex situations.

10 Minute Mindfulness: 71 Habits for Living in the Present Moment
In my teen and early adult years, I lived in a seminary and in several monasteries. A major focus of each day was a number of periods of meditation. I don’t remember ever hearing a clear explanation of what meditation was or how to do it.
In my later years as a psychologist and writer, I again saw meditation discussed as a way to balance life. I learned about Western meditation as a way to focus on inspirational ideas and Eastern meditation as a way to empty the mind. More recently the term mindfulness emerged, closely related to the idea of meditation.
Davenport and Scott define mindfulness this way, “It means you become intentionally aware of the present moment while paying close attention to your feelings, thoughts and sensations of the body.” This is as clear a definition as I have found for the nature of mindfulness.
Many of the writings on mindfulness suggest its benefits but do not say much about how to do it. This book takes a different approach. It does present physical, mental and emotional benefits but does not stop there. It suggests mindfulness habits in very specific detail. Practicing any one of the habits for 10 minutes a day will lead to it becoming a habit for you to use whenever you need to focus your life.
The meat of the book is a series of 71 habits arranged by time of day: morning, late morning, afternoon and evening. It clearly describes how to go about each habit, explaining its usefulness, providing action plans, and supplementing your approach with worksheets and references.
If you have wondered about mindfulness, whether it is worth the effort, or how exactly to go about it, look no further. Here is a comprehensive treatment of the nuts and bolts of the process. The authors do not insist that you learn and practice all 71 habits. They all provide help with specific goals you have for your life. Whether you need to overhaul your life or fine tune it, the tools are waiting for you.

Many writers, philosophers and gurus believe the answer to all our problems and issues lies inside us. This book obviously is based on that premise and shows you how you can take care of your inner self in order to lead a happier, healthier life. It does accomplish the goal and, while you may not want to follow every routine it prescribes, it at the very least points out to you some things you could improve.

I love books that focus on mindfulness but even more so when they are quick, easy and sectioned off so that I can move around the book without having to go page by page. This is a great addition to a library of books on mindfulness and easy ways to work it into your day. It's also perfect (even more so) for those who are BRAND NEW to mindfulness.

I've just started practicing the habits I've chosen from the book and I'm already seeing a difference in my stress levels and my daily mood. I like the variety of habits because I was able to choose ones that fit with my lifestyle and my career. Thank you!

Lots of practical advice and tips for maintaining or starting a mindfulness practice. I do some of these but this offered me much more examples. Plus I like how thorough the resources are in the book.

It rehashed some practices I knew about, but had neglected. Also, it introduced me to some new rituals. However, most essential, this guide leads to the power of living in the present - that is precious.

A down to earth practical guide to mindfulness. A very fine way to start studying mindfulness with application to everyday routines which in the end determine the real changes you would like to achieve in your live. I read every morning another chapter and practice till the end of the day.

Yet again, another great book from an author who knows what he's talking about. Follow the suggestions and start living a happier, more fulfilled life. As always, the steps are easy to follow and this book gently eases you into habits to make life better.

During a particularly painful crisis time, I happened upon this book of ideas to center oneself in the present. The authors speak with clarity and compassion as they offer very easy ways to approach mindfulness.

I recently incorporated Mindfulness into my daily life via an 8 week class. I found this a great read on how to incorporate many short options throughout your day. I would highly recommend this book.

My mum just massaged my back. I delighted mindfully. Yes. This massage will relieve me. This massage will make me happy and I know it. I'll never forget Barrie and Steve. The biggest takeaway from this book was: will power diminishes after an act. Accept it and work accordingly ! I love the authors. Headspace !? Ohhh yeahhhhhh !
