Great book! A real page turner. Correia proves he is not just a "gun" author, no guns in this book. The only problem, I need the next book in this new series to be ready now. Good story line, very engrossing. I really can't wait for the next book in this new series.

Each book Correia writes is better than the last.

This book is only an exception in that it is leaps and bounds above MH:Nemesis.

Waiting for the next book is going to be hard, but well worth the wait.

Unlike Larry Correia's other novel, this one was a little slower to get into. Clearly he is developing complex characters, and as usual the story is well written. There may have been too many characters competing for the reader's attention. Great work and Larry Correia's fans won't be disappointed.

Another winning series from Larry Correia. Starts a bit slow as Larry builds the world and introduces the main characters, but the bulk of the book is a wonderfully wild ride that I couldn't put down. Larry excels at writing admirable protagonists that aren't one-dimensional and manages write villains that you love to hate with even more skill. This is a fantastic start to the series and I look forward to reading more.

My 49 year old son highly recommended this book so I bought it. So glad I did. This is the best I have read in quite awhile. Great story. Wonderful character development. I intend to read all the other books by this very talented author.

Great new 'world' from Larry Correia, he hits another home run with this one and pulls you into the story and characters quickly. The plot weaves back and forth, never predictable, and has a surprising ending. Well crafted, truly enjoyable book!

Larry, you've pleasantly surprised me. I loved Monster Hunters, but you've taken it to a new level. More character development, plot, world building... all the elements to make a truly first rate novel. Thank you!

This book sucked me in pretty quickly. At first I was a little put off, as I hate when people are so stubborn and naive. But everything gets really good as the book progresses. Unaware if the second book is out yet; I hope so! Recommended.

The story is totally different to the usual 'hero, goes out & kills everybody' Each character is built up & defined with a decent background story so you fully understand where they are coming from. There are twists and turns within the plot that just make it oh so very hard to put down. Can't wait for the next book

Larry Correia proves he can do excellent work when it comes to epic fantasy. He drew a lot from research on Indian culture and the caste system. Molding it into the world he created. Which doesn't hurt the story at all. Makes it all the more interesting. I can't wait to see where the story goes.

The reader for the audiobook is different than in the Grimnoir series but is still very good, the story is interesting and fairly quick moving. I'll finish the series. Larry Correia is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

"Son of the Black Sword" is a superb action-oriented fantasy, one of the best I've read in years. It's far superior to the mincing, lame pieces of drekh that have flooded the fantasy market for the past few decades (with a few exceptions) and has restored my faith and interest in the fantasy genre. Maybe there's hope yet...

Really enjoyed the book and really sorry to have finished so quickly. Can'the wait for book 2,3, and more. Mr.Correa has made an exciting new world and I can't wait to see how he links this story to (Pure speculation) to a human diaspora story.

Even though the end was pre-ordained (cliffhanger, but no other spoilers), the hook was good. the details were a bit gruesome, but the writing moved swiftly, and I'm looking toward to the next volume.

All been done before? Maybe? I started thinking "well crafted but I've read it before" and then I really got to enjoy it. Demons, magic swords, highly trained, literal heroes, old but feels new. I really liked this book

This book is a fusion of Japanese honor culture with Spartan Warrior credo. I also like the setting in a corrupt and overreaching government which does not even allow some people their very humanity. Great adventure, great book- can't wait for the next one.

I loved it, and am waiting impatiently for the next. Mr Correia is truly gifted. I like that he has now created 3 entirely different worlds to write in. Dead 6, this one, and MHI. I don't understand how he get the time for all of the, but writers with his gifts are rare.

Good solid start to the series, some reviewers mentioned that the characters are unlikeable - particularly the main character however i felt that his motivations were well written and he developed over time. Interesting world and good world building. It's nice to read a well proofread book that actually uses the English language so that for that and a reasonable plot and first novel of the series 4 stars.

Great story. The beginning of an epic series. This was a great read and makes you think without taking sides or hitting you with a hammer. I loved it and am waiting for the next in the series. Well done, Larry.

I enjoyed reading this book thought at first it started a little slow but picked up as I continued to read. I enjoyed the characters and how the author gave background on the character and what has made them who they are now. I recommend this book.

A departure from his origins of modern day monsters and those that hunt them, Son of the Black Sword promises to be the start of an epic fantasy along the lines of Tad Williams' Dragonbone Chair saga. With love, demons, and political intrigues abounding, this is an excellent opening for the series. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the next installment!

Really enjoy the characters so far and the development of their personalities and reveals of where they have come from. Read & listened to on Audible, with one of my favorite narrators, Tim Gerard Reynolds. Looking forward to the 2nd & 3rd books and the infield ing of the many moving parts in play.

Correia is a fine writer, though this is his first foray into the fantasy genre. I enjoyed Sons Of The Black Sword immensely. The overarching plot is slowly revealed throughout the book, and all is not clear until the climax of the novel. He definitely leaves you wanting more. Lots of swordplay and bloodshed, no graphic sexual scenes for those of you who may or may not like such things

Another awesome book by Correia. Very happy that he has branched out into dark fantasy. Well thought out and detailed world. Characters are presented well and develop at a good pace. Excellent read and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

With Correia, you're always having those moments where you realize his story is living in two places at once. The world he's created for his characters and the world we live in. Don't underestimate this author and his ability to slap you upside the head with the profound masked in the guise of make-believe.

Fantastic foundation with world and character development at the level of Donaldson and Card.

All I can say is WRITE FASTER, Larry!

This book is great! I read it at every opportunity and even made a few opportunities to squeeze in time to read. It's well written and the characters are fleshed out enough to care about. I even got a little nervous during some parts! Highly recommend.

Solid action epic fantasy. Good pace and entertaining but lacking any substantive depth and themes are handled bluntly. I would recommend for fun but not for the literary artsy Fartsy reader. It's definitely a power fantasy but the execution is quite good.

An excellent book. I love everything about this, the story, the characters, the world building... A great fantasy world with elements of science-fiction buried in it's past, it reminds me of the Shannara series by Terry Brooks.

This was very different from his other books, but in a good way. I was actually surprised that he could switch form his normal flippant, tongue in cheek style to this very serious and well written yarn. Enjoy, I did.
