This came highly recommended by an English teacher friend of mine. Though it is a large book, much of it is taken up with an inventive use of illustration and historical photography. It is a treasure and I have purchased several copies as gifts for friends with children.

Wish I had bought one of these most excellent books for me! A perfect preface to the movie, but it's even better. A wonderful literary contribution and one that will be timeless in its appeal to everyone. Loved it!

I bought this book for my preteen daughter that loves to read. The size of the book initially intimidated her but many of the pages are drawings that go along with the book. When she finally read the book she loved it and told me she wished she had read it as soon as she got it. She actually ended up doing her reading fair project on the book.

My daughter checked this book out over and over from the school library. (she's was 10) So for her birthday this year I bough it for her. It is a great book with a exciting story. The illustrations really pulls you in. She loves to read it to us and show us the photos.

My daughter(9yrs. old) loved the story and the subsequent film. The book is filled with illustrations and it's just an awesome addition to your child's library. It also makes for a nice read together before bedtime as the chapters are not too long and are broken up with sketches that transport you to Hugo's world very nicely.
Highly reccomend!

I loved this book. The author so creatively built a story of substance and presented it to us, the reader, as a work of art. If we move to ebooks, this book is an example of a book that forever shall be the prototype of a book that must remain as a real book. Congratulations to the author! I am sorry it took me until seeing the the movie to read the book.

I love this book! The drawings are phenomenal and the story tugs at your heart. A true winning combination. Don't pass it up. Even thought it is a thick book, it is a really quick read. Great book for those reluctant boy readers, too!

My grandson and I love reading Selznick's books together. He always finds something in the pictures I would have overlooked. They remind me of classics like Great Expectations. I get such a thrill from the look on his face when all the pieces start to come together.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick, was introduced to me by my daughter. His artworks are being displayed at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis Tennessee. True, it is a story about a young boy, Hugo and his hard life. He is intrigued by automation, which his father found in an attic of the museum he worked at. The mystery begins to unfold after Hugo finds the automation after a museum fire. The novel is rich in both fact and fiction, along with the artworks of Brian Selznick. I reread the novel several times and still enjoy its content. I dare the young and old to dip into this book. You wont be disappointed! Brian Selznick truly deserves the Caldecott Medal!

This book is incredible.
The illustrations in this book are phenomenal.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves good books.
The story is wonderful, but it's the look of the book that really grabbed me.

This Caldecott Award winning book is fascinating because of its drawings alone, but the story is gripping, too. This book is to be a gift for a grandson who loves to draw, combined with the DVD of the movie Hugo. --Dale

Saw the movie first, had to watch it twice because the graphics in it are AMAZING!! Movie was very good too! I decided I wanted to get the book and im glad I did! the book has a lot of the drawings in it, which are cool to look at and see how they looked before edited into the movie! Book and movie follow along very well.

Absolutely magical !! I've never been so swept away by a children's book as I was by this one. The illustrations combined with the written story was just stupendous. It is the reason I went ahead and ordered his other book Wonderstruck this month

This book is a clever marriage of an understated adventure story with similarly spare pencil drawings. The effect is powerful and haunting - and certainly couldn't be contained on a basic Kindle. The kind of book you can enjoy as an adult or in sharing with kids.

What a wonderful book! The illustrations are fantastic - very visually exciting, and add to much texture to the story. A terrific mystery and adventure story, and the well written narrative is woven so magically with the graphics. My 8-year old daughter and I loved reading it together!

This book is amazing! My son and I enjoyed reading it together. The book is very graphic and the illustrations are beautiful. My son's class read this book for an assignment and loved it so much I had to get it for our library at home.

This is a book i found stimulating -- even startling -- with respect to it's message and form. It's rare to find novels that young adults will read that address important philosophical themes such as the meaning of life, purpose in the universe, ethics (how we should live our lives) and so forth, and all of it through characters we actually care about. The film by Scorsese -- inspired directly by the book -- is also fantastic!
