I have several books by Julie Garwood. In this one the female character was different, not usual weak and submissive, I liked that a lot. I did not feel that the beginning was dragged out as some reviews said, in fact I rather liked the two girls forming friendship, their dialogue was humorous. I am not so much about explicit sex scenes in romance, the love scenes in this book were tender enough for me and not overwhelming. The plot kept me occupied till the end. All in all it is a good read. It did not make me cry or feel very strong for the main characters, I sympasized with them though. I guess I need a bit more drama for that. But it did not make me be disgusted or bored either.

I enjoyed the characters and the romance. It was an easy read. I really like how the female lead was strong and capable and how the story depicted a strong female friendship. I missed the characters when I was through reading the story.

I really loved this book. The hero and heroine were not annoying like some historical novels can be. It was a sweet, fun read with a little heat. You could really feel the H and h really were into each other. It had a little drama but nothing annoying or that took so long to resolve. Overall it is what a romance is suppose to be.

Love this book! The main characters Judith and Ian are perfect for each other. The friendship between Judith and Frances from childhood to adulthood is endearing. I just love how Ms.Garwood writes one minute you're tearing up the next you're laughing out loud. Have re-read this book several times and will most likely read several more!

The Secret has long been one of my favorite books and I was thrilled to find I could get it on audio! Garwood does an excellent job of recreating old English and Scottish characters, customs, personalities, scenery, etc. etc. The heroine is always extremely likable and interesting and the hero always ignores love until it "smacks" him in the face. A great read or listen!

The characters were well developed and the storyline, though relatively predictable, was well done and a good read.

There were a couple laugh out loud moments in this book, which is a rare treat.

Some unanswered issues will probably be resolved in the sequels.

I love Garwood and all her highlander books. Even her other books are great. I would suggest reading the highlander books in order though because some of these books hint at other characters from her other books and some even interact with each other. Garwood has neverdissapointed me yet. However she did start writing modern day romance and I never read those. I like historical romance more. I hope she goes back to it.

Julie Garwood is my favorite author. Her books are always entertaining, but what I like the most is that she gets you to smile along the way. This is an historical romance that takes place in Scotland. There is also conflict and mystery to go with the humor.

I started reading and honestly couldn't put it down. Immediately after I finished reading this book I ordered Ransom, the second book out of three in the series. I was happy that the story didn't have a slow start at all, you're thrown right into it. I love Iain and Judith's chemistry together. Oh, and don't even get me started on Frances Catherine and Judith's mischievous fun.
All in all, I throughly enjoyed reading this piece of work Julie Garwood has graced us with.

I believe this book might have first been published over 20 years ago. I know I read it many years ago. I remember absolutely loving every book that Julie Garwood wrote. I am sure I was just as in love with this one. I would have given it 5 stars, I am sure. Today, twenty years later……not so much.

The author does write beautifully, but with very little attention to the how people of the day would have acted. I doubt there was a man anywhere, much less in the Highlands of Scotland who would have acted like these men. In fact, even today I hate to say it was silly and trite, but that’s how I felt. A love story where everyone is almost perfect. I found it totally implausible. So this is why the 3 Star rating.
5 Star rating. I loved it years ago, and I am sure that a much younger audience will love it today. If you are looking for a perfect hero, and perfect heroine who live perfectly ever after, this is the book for you. I think years of reading have changed my taste, but, if you like beautiful people, falling in beautiful love and living a dream as I apparently did, you will love it.
As always I love comments.

Judith and Catherine Frances have an amazing friendship that has lasted since they were four and five. Even with their Scottish/English differences they remain friends. Now after several years and Catherine just two months from giving birth Judith is determined see her friend.
Another great Julie Garwood book.

The Secret follows the usual formula of a Julie Garwood novel, with two people from different places laying eyes on each other and falling in love within minutes of meeting. Obviously there's a secret, and there's trouble, which of course makes it easier for everyone to say, "I love you."

Knowing what would eventually happen, it was still a good novel. I appreciated the addition of a friend for the heroine, and the midwifery shenanigans that went on.

Julie Garwood’s historical romance novels are the best!
You get completely engulfed in each story and are transported to 12th century Scotland & England.

I’ve read these books so many times I’ve lost count.
I feel like part of the clan!
I laugh, cry , and feel what the characters are feeling.

There are so many reviews about this book that that should speak for itself. I laughed, cried and smiled through this book. I purchased it in paperback years ago but when I saw it on Kindle I just had to get it. This is a book that i will read and re-read. The characters are characters - funny, stubborn, loving. A book I will keep on reading.

Another awesome fun loving trip through the highlands. This is a story with a humour in the style that is told in the styling of Julie Garwood. Keeping your interest peaked with every page, only to let out out a giggle at just the right time! A must read!

Her stories are simplistic and her protagonists are ideal but this is what I read romance novels for. It is a light carefree time away from the real world and Julie Garwood has a nice sense of humor also so that's a plus. I would recommend her historical's to anyone. :-)
