This “novella” isn’t marked as such. The book is 25% of the total number of pages. The rest is a “bonus book”, which I did not read. This was an excellent story, but surely there are standards for this kind if misleading.

This is another absolutely fabulous story by Alice Ward. As usual with her books, the story is emotion packed and so very rewarding. Zoe and Gray are fantastic characters that life has handed horrendous pain. Their healing process makes for a very wonderful and a very passionate story. I just love the writing of Alice Ward. This is a must read.

Alice Ward never disappoints with her writing. She knows just how to give you the right amount of everything to make her books the page-turners they are. This book about Leslie and Gray is wonderfully written and will hook you from the beginning. A must read!!!

I loved reading this book. The pain, heartache, the lust, and the learning. What a fabulous storyline. I do love a good HEA, and this one was perfect for this story. I like well written books that enable me to get lost in them, and make me want to keep reading until the very end, and not feel like I wasted time. Job well done!

The dynamics of this novel is fast paced, full of sexual tension with a very poignant addressing of letting go of a true love. This is a story about passion - there is no doubt but there is a more underlying issue of healing. Great read and with the inclusion of bonus reads- this is a real treat.

Omg, I thoroughly enjoyed this story!! It made me laugh, cry, hold my breath, and made me feel Grays and Zoe's passion. This is an incredible love story. I most definitely recommend it. I love Alice's writing style, I become transfixed, transported into the characters souls... just outstanding .

The Cabin e-book included bonus books, The Hunt, and The Rebel. My overall rating is three and one-half stars. The stories were sweet, feel-good, HEA tales. The H/h had good chemistry; not much angst or drama; and the heat factor was 2/5. There were minor editing issues. I would recommend for a quick fix of love and romance.

Wow! Just Wow! This book grabbed me from the start! The story kept my mind flying as to what the final outcome would be but to get there I have cried, laughed, gotten angry, held my breath, cried some more, wished for a best friend like Leslie and a man like Gray! Superb writing.

I was indecisive about my star rating for this book. Zoe is finding solace at a friends' remote cabin to finish working on her book. She has zero experience in a wintry mountainous setting, and was ill-prepared to be caught driving in a blizzard that finds her perilously close to dying. She's saved in the nick of time by her cabin neighbor, Gray. I could tell Gray was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders by thinking a life alone was what he was destined for. If not for all his high-tech security background, his security cameras wouldn't have caught Zoe nearly going over the edge of the cliff. Gray rescues her in time and takes her back to her cabin to nurse her back to health. So here's where it kinda tanked for me. Despite having tons of bruises and scrapes and a killer concussion, both Gray and Zoe can only think about sex. Now don't get me wrong, I love some steam in my books, but there was little more than that in this book. Seriously, at one point there was even talk of literally having physical ailments due to too much sex, yet they still took a roll in the hay. I appreciated the truth or dare scene where all their secrets spilled out about their pasts. It was a poignant moment in a book filled otherwise with little else than fluff. I did enjoy the humorous scenes with the kitten, especially taking an interest in a certain play toy ;) I think my main issue was with the timeline. These two turned to insta-lust (something the author even mentioned) within just a matter of days. Had this stretched out more over weeks or a month, this book could have packed a bigger punch.

The Cabin is your typical girl rescued from certain death and is trapped in a cabin with her rescuer in the middle of the blizzard of the century, yada yada yada... As mentioned in other reviews, there were more than a few technical failures that were glaring. (As my husband would say, plot holes big enough to fly a starship through...) I disagree about the excessive amount of sex. A lot of was alluded to. (After all, all sex and no plot only earns you a place at XNXX.) There is a very heart-touching scene where the two are trying to deal with each own's horrors/tragedies in their lives, voicing their fears in a rather odd game of "Truth or Dare". (Probably the best part of this entire tale.) But I am still SO DISAPPOINTED with the lack of editing. I have read so many stories recently, and I am pretty much convinced that if an author has an editor involved, that person should be fired. (I suspect there aren't any at all. I have dealt with prima donna writers who cannot bear to have a single bit of their stories changed for the better. It only makes the writer appear less professional.) My favorite really bad example is when Zoe wondered if her Prince Charming was a criminal on the lamb. (Since when did sheep get involved here?... Maybe I don't want to continue that line of thought...) It's "on the lam".
I am still not comfortable with bonus stories because since they aren't listed on the front cover, I find it difficult to figure out which book they're in. In this case, I think The Hunt should have been the cover novel. I initially found KP to be disgustingly obnoxious. (But, as I have told writers, if you are going to use profanity, use it appropriately and use it well and never cop out with stupid euphemisms. Alice Ward certainly could handle this.) This story is definitely a two-box Puff Plus rating. I haven't cried over a story like this since... since my husband died totally out of the blue. I will warn you -- this tale can cause PTSD moments if you are prone to that. But having been in the medical profession where I have attended many a "death watch" in support of a dying patient, I can tell you that this story really hooked me good. I, myself, have been in a similar situation in which I was mourning for a best friend while my boyfriend (later my husband), managed to open up and finally mourn for his own mother who died ten years prior... God... she got it right... so right.
Having been an editor, I can get all caught up with the technical parts, but this story was a better one than The Cabin, making the purchase of this ebook worth it all. (Just ignore trying to analyze possible contradictions about someone so young like KP to be an Oscar-winning producer. My friends in the business would be laughing their asses off, I'm sure. I wish she could have given more thought about this problem...)
The whole point of a good adult romance story is the payoff. I expect to have my heart torn out by emotional rollercoasters, barely grabbing a breath between drops. The Hunt delivered that very well, leaving me a very satisfying reader.
As for The Rebel, it was your typical warm-and-fuzzy piece that was a good one to read after The Hunt. (I needed a break.) I only wished a few of the loose ends were tied up, and the epilogue did a little more explaining... Oh well. Even in life we seldom get to know the rest of the story.
I gave this book four stars because of technical issues and the fact that The Cabin wasn't the best story of the three, but it is definitely worth buying. I would definitely go back and reread The Hunt and maybe The Rebel again for sure.

Started off really nice. I could tell it was going to be romantic and less porny which was fine. I even loved that the h backstory involved a porn queen mother as that was different. What I loathed Was being preached to and the oddly judgmental tone surrounding the porn business. I couldn't believe I was being preached to and by the huge reveal I was done. The h is slightly annoying and having to read her "writing" as if it was a masterpiece was juvenile.

DNF. Not because its a terrible book or anything. Its not. It just felt cookie-cutter, same old thang. What other lower reviewers wrote seems about right without any malice. It just couldn't hold my interest. Somewhere around 60% I started reading a paperback, then forgot about this book till I needed space in KU. Just peetered right out.
Honestly, the writing was fine. The characters were a bit too good to be true, their problems a skosh too tropey, and their sex too here-we-go-again. I had a lot of "Of course" moments. Of course he's a billionaire. What woodsman isn't? Of course he just so happened to see her go off the road. Of course she's a super successful, yet drop dead gorgeous, yet totally humble woman with family problems that make her vulnerable. Of course he's a widower with similar sexy tortured vulnerabilities. There comes a point where wish-fulfillment just becomes humdrum dramatized predictability. The conflict...honestly I can't remember what it was now, which says it all I suppose.
So, not a bad book per se. Not a great book. Just not all that gripping or believable.
Oh, and a high heat rating. Mature reads fo sho.

I don’t know why the books the store is recommending to me are so bad. I suppose one could say this author has a unique writing style. A bit of stream of consciousness and flash backs mixed with with present time POV from both characters. But I just wasn’t into the story.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book. Zoe was so overwhelmed by her mother and her mother's life that she needed to get away. She was currently trying to finish her book at get it to the publisher and she just needed isolation in which to finish it. So her friend's uncle had a cabin and he told Zoe she could use it to finish her book. So she went to the cabin. Little did she know that there was another such cabin not far from the one she was going to and there was a man there named Gray who was mourning the loss of his family and wanted just to be alone and not bothered by anyone. He had pretty much turned into a hermit but then a snow storm came and put him directly in line with Zoe and having to save her, would he take her back down the mountain and deposit her somewhere else, would he help her, would she help him, would they be to each other what they needed to survive and come out of their current situations. This is a very, very interesting and deep story where you will get drawn into their lives and want to know more and want to be in the cabin with them and not be able to stop reading until the glorious ending.

It is apparent that Alice Ward's early goals were to deliver emotional and impactful stories because The Cabin had me gripped emotionally from the very beginning. Gray isolated himself from the rest of the world in his cabin in the mountains after a tragic, tragic loss a couple of years ago. Zoe has escaped to the mountains running away from her own past being controlled by her mother. Gray rescues Zoe from an accident in the mountains. The tragedies that each have suffered would bring anyone to their knees. But together and apart, they go on their journey to healing from loss and heartache to finding their own healing and strengths and then cementing their lives together for a much happier and fulfilling future.
Alice Ward probably has a degree in psychology. She has the reader not only examining the characters below the surface but also feeling every emotion they feel - from heartache, fear, hope, laughter, tears, raw and emotional sex, and love. I highly recommend this book. Another emotional wringer from Ms. Ward!

Such a poignant, beautiful story of love.
Zoe is a writer who needs an escape from her life. After a life altering assault and a sex addicted, porn star for a mother who was pressuring her to cross a line, Zoe flees to a remote cabin in Montana. She is there to get through what happened to her, finish writing her book and find solace.
An unpredictable snow storm changes her life. While trying to get back to her cabin after a supply run, she nearly loses her life. Enter Gray, her rescuer. His security system pick up car crashing. He goes to help her and makes it just in time.
Injured and stranded, Gray brings Zoe to his house to treat her wounds and keep her safe during the storm.
They are both lost souls just existing. Gray has his own scars that run deep and haunt him. Each carried so much hurt. But they recognize those broken parts in one another. Their attraction is like gravity. You can't help but feel how much they need and desire eachother.
Its a story of healing, letting go and finding your Home with the person you were meant to love.

Living on the side of a mountain, Gray Maddox never expected to rescue the beautiful goddess from the next cabin. During a blizzard, he spies her through security cameras while her jeep goes over the edge of the road into a tree. It’s no time he’s pulling her from the wreck at the last moment before the car goes down the ravine. Zoe Meadows is a bit of a mystery as he’s watched her for weeks, and this beauty is hiding something painful. Gray is also running away from a painful tragedy. As Gray tends to Zoe’s injuries, the realization that each holds the answer to much needed healing and solace in their lives. The Cabin is passionate, intensely emotional, and heartfelt. But when the snow clears will Gray and Zoe be able to move forward and find a chance for love? A remarkable read that will tug at your heartstrings, beautiful characterization and deeply emotional. There is so much emotion packed into this story. This expanded version packs an even stronger punch than the original novella did. Zoe and Gray have both survived tragedies that have left them reluctant to trust the people around them. A terrible winter storm and a bad accident strand them together to wait out the blizzard. The close quarters encourage the pair to trust one another with their darkest secrets. Zoe's secrets are hers to tell, and she does at about the halfway point, so I won't go all spoiler-y with the details. But those secrets are very dark and could be triggering for some, so be aware that there is some difficult reading ahead. While Zoe and Gray are getting deeply emotional, the sweetest rescue dog and the world's most manic stray kitten provide comic relief to keep the story from getting too heavy. That cat made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe. I'm also really hoping that there is a follow-up story to this one featuring Zoe's best friend, who deserves her own happily-ever-after.

The Cabin contains two more books, The Hunt and The Rebel, as well as a sneak peek at The Surprise.
1. The Cabin: I liked The Cabin and I liked the way in which the author touched on subjects that are not normally covered in romance. I feel that Ms. Ward's strength lies in her ability to cover sensitive subjects in a way that is realistically written into the story. I can't say too much here without giving spoilers which I do not want to do. Suffice it to say both Zoe and Gray have had trauma in their lives. I will say that this story kept me entertained and reading, even through the many sex scenes, but I felt like it needed more. It needed more fleshing out of the characters and more background. I just felt like something was missing and that's why I can't give it 5 stars. That being said, I do recommend this book and I will read more by Alice Ward.
2. The Hunt: I would give this story about Caitlyn and KP 4 stars. I cried through this book and could not put it down. My only complaint is KP's character didn't seem to be consistent throughout the story. I wish Ms. Ward had made this book longer. I would've liked more information on the day to day life of both Zoe and KP and how that affected them.
3. The Rebel: I would give this story about Sean and Tara 3 stars. I didn't care for this one as much as the other two books and I think it's because it was more of a novella. Once again, I felt like I didn't really know the characters as much as I would've liked and there was less background given on Sean and Tara than on the characters in the two previous stories. It read almost like an outline in many chapters. I skimmed over much of this book as it just didn't hold my interest, although the plot was a good one and had a lot of potential.
I appreciate getting 3 novels in one and I enjoyed reading them. I would definitely read Alice Ward again.

Zoe and Gray each have their own hurts and demons to deal with.
He rescues her from near death and as she heals she starts getting to know him and vice versa.
They have hot chemistry between them and act on it. Given what happened in her past Gray does it right.
The day she is rescued she finds out that he was spying on her from when she first arrived. Can she forgive him?
She has stuff to take care of regarding her mother and while she misses him, can she forgive him?
When he shows up at her mom's memorial service, he once again rescues her.
Can he get past his old hurts and build a life with Zoe?
Can he get over his wife and child's murder?
Get the book and find out the answers for yourself.
Well written, faced paced, intense and emotional. An absolute winner!!!

I voluntarily read this ARC and am giving my honest and unbiased opinion of the book as I experienced it.

Alice never ceases to surprise me. She writes such fantastic storylines that keep you hooked from beginning to end. Zoe and Gray are two people who have demons from their past to get over. Gray's happened two years ago while Zoe's happened just recently. Gray happened to see Zoe first when his cameras were shifted by some squirrels. Ever since then he has been enchanted by her and wonders why she is so sad. When Zoe is driving back to her cabin to get there before the blizzard hits, her jeep loses control and the only thing keeping her from going down the mountain is a tree. Gray sees this happen and knows he has to save her. The connection they have when they first meet face to face is instantaneous. There are parts that will make you laugh and cry a little. There is one scene that will have you really laugh out loud. Will they be able to heal other and have a future together? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and this is an honest and unbiased review thereof.
What can I say about this book that I haven't said about any of her others? Once again, Alice Ward has written a masterpiece of love and the trials and tribulations thereof. Gray, still not over the deaths of his wife and daughter and Zoe, who has major issues to overcome and work through, officially meet during a blizzard, when Gray rescues Zoe from certain death. What follows is the very best of fairy tales, but there's always something that has to be overcome in order for the "happily-ever-after" to come true. Ms. Ward tackles some difficult subjects with a delicate and sensitive touch and leaves you that much more understanding. This was a rollercoaster of emotions for me, from laughing out loud, getting hot under the collar to crying my eyes out - okay, so I'm a tad emotional, but, seriously, you might want to keep a tissue handy.

I read the original short story for this book when Alice first sent it out to us and thought is was a good book then. This extended version of the book is so much more. You have a man who is living remotely to recover from pain and loss who just wants to be left alone. Then you have a woman who is lost on her way to her own cabin when s storm hits and she veers off the road in her truck. Gray has cameras everywhere and notices someone has approached his property, when he realizes that it's a woman in trouble he of course has to help. Zoe is injured in this accident and ends up recovering in Gray's home for a few days. Will this chance encounter chance the way these two few their worlds? This is a well written book, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and though the story itself was really good. I am a huge fan of Alice Ward's books and would recommend this book to others, she doesn't seem to disappoint.

This story was first released as part of the Hot & Sinful Nights box set. But is is now expanded from the original.
Both Gray and Zoe have histories with heartbreak, and both desperately want a chance to discover happiness. This story is cute and funny, it's sexy, but it's also heartbreaking. The connection between these two is electric and strong, and their passion is explosive while tender.
This is a wonderful, well-written story of two people thrown together by fate and them trying to find their way through their inner darkness to find that light between them. The story is rich with emotion, developed characters, and a fully fleshed out storyline that spans more than a few days in a cabin.
Definitely recommended.

Did the heroine have to look like the first wife? There is so much happening in this book, everything being thrown in by the spoonful, that this seemed to be the sticking point for me. Every woman wants to be special (even to her book boyfriend) and being the secondary replacement "goddess" just stuck in my craw. Sure, the author writes at the near end that the hero is finally able to say goodbye to the first wife and recognizes that the heroine is not the same or a copy of Jessica, but that was a long time for him to not be clear on the distinction. And yes the heroine accepts she is desired for looking like other women (her mother, Jessica), yet I am never clear on whether she sees herself as beautiful for herself or how she is a replacement potential or item to all kinds of people and Gray.
Yeah, that part made me itchy.
Yeah, that part made me itchy.

I enjoyed aspects of this book, but the author needs to research better. 1) she referred to a character as a psychiatrist because she counsels people. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor dealing with psychiatric issues. Few of them do therapy style counseling. I think the author meant to say psychologist. 2) much more annoying, the author needs to research head injuries. A character has head trauma and is described as having unequal pupils and an unsteady gait and this is (in the book) considered a standard and expected part of a “concussion”. Um, no. Unequal pupils is a sign that is ominous and may mean impending death from a head injury without intervention. Not a simple concussion. And - note to the author, the reason that “waking someone up with a concussion” is no longer recommended is because with significant head trauma in this day and age, a quick head ct will evaluate for a more serious injury than a concussion. This man had no way of knowing if the character had a concussion or more significant head trauma without a medical assessment. This may seem like picky points, but it would be so easily fixed by running these scenes by a medical professional! There are plenty out there!

Gray lives in isolation, which is what he prefers, and when his security camera is moved into a different position, he catches a glimpse of his next door neighbour. Zoe just wanted to get away from everything, and carry on writing her novel. When Zoe is caught in a snow storm, and ends up with her truck hanging over a mountain, she is rescued by Gray, who tends to her injuries, and looks after her. There is an attraction between these two, but will they take a chance on each other? No spoilers; this is a must read, you will not be disappointed!
Once again Alice has written a phenomenal storyline, which had me hooked from the very beginning. I highly recommend this authors’ work for all readers!

The instant love just threw me off. And the errors throughout the book were very annoying.
But like I said it wasn’t bad, it had a couple funny moments as well as moving ones. But character development was lacking as well as a stimulating plot. It was pretty predictable, but that’s seems to be the norm with romance books lately.

I received a free copy of The Cabin expanded version by Alice Ward and this review was given freely.
Alice Ward uses vivid imagery and picturesque scenery to draw you in and make you feel like you are part of the story. This novel begins as an excellent action suspense and then turns into a steamy romance where Author Zoe and reclusive Billionaire Gray help each other heal after tragic and violent pasts. This novel is complex, well written, and flows easily with a good balance between violence, humor, irony, and sensitivity. Rape, porn, murder, a stray kitten, an aging dog, a recluse billionaire tech wizard, a historical romance writer and an early Montana blizzard are melded together in this must read story.

Dear Alice, thank you for the advance copy of The Cabin! An honest review is my gratitude for your kindness! You never cease to surprise me!
Indeed, this book has everything in its magical pages... fun and laughter from the mischievous Gonad the kitten’s antics...LOL ... seriously? Oh dear !!! Poor Gray, hahahaha ? Alice, how could you? Anyway, that part in the story is one of my favorites... unbelievable indeed, variation is the spice of life!!!
Experiencing heartwrenching experience in his life, Gray Maddox hasn’t lost one little bit of being human and a hot blooded male ... again!!! seeing Zoe for the first time awakened his dormant heart like a raging volcano!!! And why not? Zoe is the most beautiful girl he has ever seen (although there’s a li’l bit of Jessica, maybe? But still calling her Goddess is understandable) feeling refreshed and envigorated??? Wow!!!
Circumstances often happen beyond one’s expectations or it could be fate, and meant to be? Finding Zoe in danger, in an almost fatal blizzard accident, Gray thanked heavens for his quick response, saving Zoe, with incredible haste ... heart beating with fear!!! Well, having Zoe in his cabin, treating her back to health, has turned out to be the most incredible and phenomenal opportunity for both of them, building up mutual and uncontrollable feelings for each other!!! Oh yes, mutual understanding about their complex situations not only added more depth with their love for each other, but genuine understanding and acceptance in regards to Zoe’s past and Gray about Jessica!!! Both knew that second chances are theirs to keep!!!
Gray’s gorgeous bearded face has gained more love and admiration from Zoe, having known him looking that way the first time she held his hand when he saved her from the aspen tree ? a bearded husband he then remained for his gorgeous wufe?
The cabin experience for both Gray and Zoe hasnt not only brought them extreme belonging where they both found happiness but finding the magnificence of their love, marriage and birth of their lovely daughter Aspen Cynthia Maddox, in memory of the aspen tree, and Zoe’s Mom who has never experienced love in her entire life. Zoe, after revealing her real and filial feelings made Gray’ s heart burning with more love an intense admiration for his most beautiful wife body and soul?
An extraordinary book full of everything that we expect in a well written love story - heartwrenching situations, acceptance, true love and with fun and laughter spicing along the way!!! Truly dacinating reading experience ?

I voluntarily received this arc and here is my honest review.
Zoe has escaped from the world, for some peace and quiet while she writes her next bestseller. Gray is hiding from his past and the painful memories in it. He finds Zoe, right after she moves into the cabin down the mountain. An unexpected snow storm strands them together, where they both get closer. This story delves into a lot of life issues, but does it in such a way that you are emotionally involved with them. You laugh, smile, cry and cheer with them as they finds love. Such a good story, and thank you Ms Ward for adding to the scenes, they are so much more now.

Zoe & Gray captures your attention from the first page until the last page, the book flows with a good storyline, which made it very difficult for me to put down.
A story filled with just the right amount of angst, laughter, romance and nail biting suspense. A story where Alice Ward drags you into and for me I could literally see what she was writing about, was almost like watching a movie. The characters were strong, storyline flowed and it felt like you were right there experiencing every emotion.
Definitely one of my favorite books for 2017. Now this is the Alice Ward we love to read.

Zoe and Gray have both survived different tragedies, which have left them reluctant to trust people. Zoes trip to stock up before the snowstorm does not end the way she imagined. Enter Gray who helps her in more ways than one – but can Zoe help him?
Add in a couple of squirrels, a sweet rescue dog and a stray kitten with its own agenda – ouch, makes so that the story is light and fun.
The only thing that bother me a little was that I found it interesting that Zoe so quickly got over her tragedies.
Sweet, quick and easy read.

"The cabin" extended edition will exceed your wildest fantasy. Zoe and Grey just a pleasure to learn about. Sadness, loneliness, secrets, romance, hot sex and a twist of fate in the form of a blizzard brings these two together.
These two are harboring some secrets and need each other to be able to move on and truly find their happy ever after. The ride your heart and emotions will take. I have read EVERY single Alice Ward book and each is awesome but "The Cabin" just is special to me and the extended edition just officially made my week.

I thought this story was excellent the first time around as part of the Hot and Sinful Nights Collection!
Now, having added to it with some tweaking this story of grief, guilt, torment, dealing with those dark demons mixed with the lightheartedness and downright sinfully yummy times The Cabin is even better!
Get ready for a hot, emotional, laugh out loud ride that you won't want to put down! Alice Ward keeps upping the ante with every book she gives us; I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next!

If you previously read this as the short story in the box set Hot & Sinful Nights you'll have only gotten a taste of Gray & Zoe's journey together. I love their chemistry and their individual heartbreaking paths that brought them to each other.
Mother Nature stuck them together in the form of a blizzard but there was some higher power in the universe that put them together on purpose to heal each other's hearts and souls from their recent tragedies.
Zoe & Gray's connection is so intense that it warms your heart because you know it's exactly what they both need. I love these two and I love their story!

This author's books just keep getting better and better. The Cabin is an extended version of a shorter book from the Hot & Sinful Nights anthology. Gray, a mountain man, prefers living a solitary life after his wife and unborn child are murdered. He lives in a cabin away from society, unable to move on. When Zoe comes and moves into the neighboring cabin, she's also trying to escape a painful past. But the forces of nature had different plans for them. When they finally give into their desires, it's steamy and amazing, and they are finally able to let each other in to help heal one another. A touching yet sexy story!

What can I say this was an amazing reading experience. Zoe is a beautiful 22 year old woman who escapes to the mountains in Montana after going through an horrific life altering experience.
Gray is hiding out in his cabin to hide from the tremendous pain of losing his wife in unborn child. When a blizzard hits Zoe ends up in an accident and Gray has to rescue her. He calls her the Goddess because she is curvy and beautiful. This is an engaging emotional story about two people who come together to heal and in doing so they find happiness and love. I voluntarily received an advance arc copy for an honest review.
