I found this book to be an interesting take on what it would be like if all or most of modern technology were taken away from us. In this book 3 children venture out on their own to find just what secrets are being kept from then. I like the idea of the book but found it lacking from be a real page turner. I am glad I read it but it took me some time to get through it as some parts I found to be a little slow. With a little more work this could be a great book. I have received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review .

I got this book as an ARC in exchange of an honest review.

I totally loved this book. After reading so many dsytopian books, I was not really looking forward to yet another dsytopian future book and I constantly kept comparing The Children Of Darkness with books like The Giver and Divergent series and to an extent, this book was quite similar to those books, but it had its own distinct uniqueness.

The book started off as all dsytopian books do, explaining the rules that the world follows and how people are chosen by the Temple of Light, ruling power of the world, for teaching. Teachings were simply a display of the horrors of our world, i.e. of the past. All the good things on this time were hidden from them.

This story tells us about the journey of Nathaniel, Orah and Thomas of Little Pond, who become the seekers of truth, traveling all over the place in search of the keep. The keep is something that can overthrow the power of Temple and enlighten all the people with the truth. The way the children get pulled in to this adventure is written in a gripping way, I felt. The only thing that I felt was weird was, The story initially gave a huge importance to Nathaniel and I left he was the protagonist of the story, but soon Orah took over and remained in that position till almost the end. Nathaniel and Thomas assumed the side roles but I felt all three should have had equal importance throughout the book.

The book is divided into 4 parts and hence I felt it was a bit long. But the book is written in such a great way that I couldn’t keep it down once I started reading it! I would have preferred the main treasure hunt part to have been more elaborate and a bit difficult for 3 people who are said to have been of age. They seemed to be getting their work done a bit too easily at times.

Since the book is completely clean and with not much romance stuff, it is a really good book for 13 yr old and up young adults. Also, this book is the first book of The Seekers trilogy, and I surely will read the remaining of the books!

This is the first book I have read by Mr Litwack and I am impressed. The story is very well constructed. The main characters are three friends. The characters are very well but and believable.
Though a work of fiction, the situation and the lessons are relevant to today. It is a great story for younger people as well. I really enjoyed it and will highly recommend it to everyone.

As I flipped to the first page of David Litwack’s "The Children of Darkness," I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I certainly didn’t expect such a riveting and enjoyable ride that gripped me from the very first page and held me captivated long after I completed the last page. Set a thousand years in the future, a group of three determined teenagers are quickly forced to leave their childhood behind as they begin a desperate race to uncover the truth. As Orah, Nathanial, and Thomas become closer to the Keep and the exciting secrets it contains, they also struggle to hide from the vicars and the danger that accompanies their mission. However, none of them expected what they would find and what they would be expected of them next.

"The Children of Darkness" has all of the elements of a great dystopian novel, from a controlling government figure with a warped sense of reality, a cult-like obsession with unique religious practices and beliefs, and strong character development of the three main characters as they make a quick transition from childhood to adulthood. By expertly intertwining all of these elements with a quick-paced plot and several interesting riddles, Litwack has created a novel that is sure to exceed the expectations of all dystopian fiction fans.

These novel has blown past all of my expectations and the characters lingered in my mind long after I completed the book. I look forward to the next portion of the Seekers trilogy, The Stuff of Stars¸ and I will certainly be exploring more works of this talented author.

This is an interesting dystopian story with compelling characters and good writing. I gave it 4 stars because I didn't care so much about reading the next book in the series. It seemed like the story was all wrapped up, and I didn't feel hungry for more.

I received a copy of The Children of Darkness for an honest review.
I've given it a bit of time after finishing the book before submitting my review so that I can reflect a bit more. All in all it was a pretty decent Post-Apocalyptic tale centered around three youths and their encounters with an overbearing religious organization. The author did a good job of conveying the character's wonder when confronted with long thought lost technology. My biggest issue with the story is that at no point did it it ever get too difficult for the characters. And when it does appear to get difficult, they are able to get out of the situation without much difficulty. The author piqued my interest with the world he created, I just don't think he got the execution down.

I received a free ecopy of this book for review from novelreviewers.com.

I absolutely loved the premise of this book. Unfortunately, the characters were difficult to connect with. There was no gradual growth or change in the characters through the story. Instead, two of them remained flat while the third changed without warning. The romantic aspect was random, glazed over, and also written with no build up. It didn't add anything to the story. While I find the world an intriguing one, the characters lacked humanity's proclivity to react and be molded by challenge.

A thoroughly enjoyable story driven by a trio of friends who set out to find the long lost keep and rediscover the truth behind the stories of the darkness.
I liked the characters and felt that Orah was the most detailed and fully realised of the three, the boys appeared to be mere foils for her development t. In the next book I look forward to seeing Nathaniel emerging as a more fully rounded individual, Thomas is very likable but also could do with a little more detail.
All in all a very good read and definitely a page turner with many original concepts and some twists at the end.

I enjoyed the friendship of the three main characters especially as it was not perfect but realistic. I also enjoyed the world building that avoided the typical nuclear war situation. My only real issue is that when the climax came the story took a speed train to the end of the book. I look forward to the next book. This book does have anti religious overtones ala The Golden Compassbut not as a generality but an honest look. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

The Temple of Light teaches that having new thought is bad thing, it's the darkness. The Temple vicar teach Orah, Nathaniel, and Thomas, all young friends from Little Pond who embark on the journey of a lifetime to discover the mystical keep.

I must admit, initially when reading it had a rather slow start. I actually had to reread the beginning two times because I put it down on the first try. I couldn't quite get into it. Once the scene was set it was much better. I felt as though the book moved rather fast at that point and it was more enthralling to read. It was a treasure hunt kind of feel, and even though the end of the world feel it had to it--it almost reminded me of a setting like the movie "The Village." He did a really great job moving the story along once the details were revealed, and hopefully in the second book we can see much more of the keep. It was a great read and I'm glad I chose this book to read out of the Honest Reviews categories.

Note: In exchange for an unbiased review, the author, publisher, and/or narrator were kind enough to provide an audio version of this book at no charge via AudiobookBlast.

This was the first book I've ever listened to by this author and the narrators. The narrator did a decent job at trying to bring the characters to life - no real complaints there - but she was limited by the material, which was slow and ultimately uninteresting. I gave it nearly two hours but finally had to pull the plug. I hate to call it quits on a book before I'm done, but there are so many others on my "to listen to" list that sometimes I just have to. Unfortunately, this was one of those times. :/

The story is a good story but I spent most of the book being confused. At first I thought I was reading the first book in another series of books. Vicious aunt and uncle. Vicious cousin. Locked in an attic room. And so on.
I was not sure until nearly the end of the book exactly what kind of creature the main character was. I was hoping for a thorough explanation of the creatures but was disappointed. The author kind of glosses over what the creatures are and this war that they are involved in. There were multiple places to jump in and tell the reader more about the creaturrs and the war. If you are going to take a supernatural creature out of their normal place with extremely different characteristics from the norm, you have to have some pretty detailed explanations.
All in all the story is good once you get it all figured out. I received a copy of the book in exchange for this review.

Another Light vs Dark, Good vs Evil, Religious backing book. I really tried to get into this as I like Dystopian kind of books, but I guess this was just too far in the future. I gave it a good 4 hours and nothing clicked for me. One character was brought to the Light (sorta) and in so doing, ratted out his friend to get out of the place. Just didn't fit.

Erin did a good job at trying to keep me interested, but in the end I just couldn't finish it.

I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was wildly pleased by this book. I've grown wary of dystopians lately, but this was wonderfully paced and had the feel of an epic without the harrowing length - I actually read it in one long sitting. The character growth was subtle and natural, and the resolution was believable and still left room to tackle issues in future books. Some of the character voices didn't quite jive throughout the book - Orah, especially, grew quite formal a few times in ways that felt unnatural, but ultimately detracted little from the work. The background was well laid out in both substance and setting, and to be quite honest some of the content plays into a few personal fears of mine. A truly engrossing and thought provoking read.

For a great summer read pick up a copy of David Litwack's book, The Seekers: The Children of Darkness. David knows how to craft a wonderful story and make the characters almost jump off the pages. I felt like I was a part of their journey and couldn't put the book down until I finished it. I can't wait to read the next one!! Bravo, David!! Keep them coming!!

“I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review”.
I found this to be a very satisfying book, thought provoking, and hopeful. These three friends want more than has been offered to them by the narrow minded Temple Vicars. In the Vicars eyes anything different is 'darkness', or will lead back to darkness. Darkness we find is technology, something the Vicars have kept for themselves, but taken from the populace.
I don't want to give many spoilers, I hate that. I had empathy for all three of the leading characters, and I loved the way the book ended, and am looking forward to more books!

I received this book in exchange for a honest review. It is a post apocalyptic novel, presenting a dystopian civilization ruled by a cruel tyrannical clergy. Orah, Thomas and Nathaniel are three friends since childhood who stick together through great odds to challenge the Temple of Light. The book was a very enjoyable read and well written.

A dystopian novel geared for young adults that explores the questions all of us have about life's journey and purpose. The three friends experience a suppressive government by the Temple leaders, but hear of a promise that their world could be different and better. Together, they rebel and follow the path to find the rumoured treasure. The climax seems rushed, though believable, and the story ends with the beginning of change. A stand alone part of an upcoming trilogy, the author keeps you interested and looking forward to the next episode. I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest rewiew.

I quite enjoyed this book as a nice easy read while on vacation at the cottage. I found I didn't get too engaged in the story until about halfway through, at which point I couldn't put it down. It reminded me of a cross between The Da Vinci Code and The Handmaids Tale. Society is kept under control by the religious leaders to limit education and prevent an uprising, keeping their group in control. A young man discovers a line of people called the Keepers, who have created a time capsule of knowledge and history for when society rises up to overthrow the despot religious leaders. The book ended on a nice cliffhanger, and in looking forward to book #2.

Easy to read, Characters likable, none of the poor spelling and grammar that so many Kindle books have.
On the other hand, I'm not fond of dystopian fiction and I really don't like brainwashing using violence on children. If that's your thing be my guest, read on...

This is not my genre of choice. I normally take my time with a book, but couldn't put this one down... I never read a book in a day or two, that is until now. I read for entertainment and enjoyment and not to dissect a book by some literary standard. This book met my expectations and more. I am looking forward to diving into book 2. And even though I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review, it had absolutely no bearing on how I'd review it.

The Seekers is one of the most original Dystopian novels, I've read in a long time! It did start out slow for me, but by the middle I was completely drawn in. David Litwack definitely has a new fan! All in all the story was a great read with an equally great message. I can not wait for the next part of the series to be out!
