I read these books for fun - I love the combination of Victorian steampunk and paranormal. As Alexia (main protagonist) would say - Mixing vampires, werewolves, and ghosts is sure to make a disaster of the most refined dinner party!
Minus one star only because I do get a bit tired of the over-the-top silly language. This is one series that actually get better as it goes along! Happy reading and don't forget to straighten your cravat!

Second in a series steampunk romp with vampires and werewolves. She has lived in England, but gets a port city wrong. Well developed, witty. Lots of adventures through the series. Not perfect, but readable. First book is Soulless.
A steampunk adventure novel (Magnificent Devices Book 1) :: Heartless (The Parasol Protectorate) :: The Last Necromancer (The Ministry Of Curiosities Book 1) :: Nefertiti's Heart (The Artifact Hunters Book 1) :: A Supernatural Society Novella (Volume 2) - Romancing the Werewolf

This series is great summer fun, escapism at its best and not to be taken seriously. It combines the right amount of steampunk, the supernatural, humor and mystery and bakes them into the perfect scone to accompany your tea!
Thanks, Gail, for creating a heroine I won't ever forget - it's been a pleasure to meet her and I look forward to becoming fast friends.

Love this series. I had not ever listen (audio series) but it is a great who done what. Written like a sherlock homes mystery. Can hardly wait to get more. Recommend the store audio books if not available on cd.

Parasol Protectorate is a great series. Many of the words used are no longer used these days and seemed foreign. So I was grateful to have gotten the books on my kindle where I could easily look them up instead of thumbing through a dictionary. Addicting series though!

When I first started reading this series I thought it was a bit too heavy on the romance angle (I'm not into romance novels) but Changless furthers the plot by adding new action and characters. Anyone looking for a light read with lots of fun steampunk and paranormal elements thrown in with a strong female character and a good bit of humor will enjoy this.

Author provides another enjoyable romp with the werewolves and vampires. Good suspense and all the usual characters make for a fun read. A word of advice, read these books in order to really enjoy them.

In the second helping of Alexia, the story develops along lines most unforeseen, deliciously exciting and unbelievable fun! I laughed, giggled and sighed throughout and rushed to purchase book 3. Highly recommended!

This genre of historical fantasy is one I've never sampled. The idea that Victorian England was heavily influenced by vampires and werewolves is intriguing. Who knows? That may explain a lot of things.....

Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series has been gaining strength from a strong beginning. I enjoyed her first two novels-- imaginative, amusing stories about an alternate London ruled by an uneasy alliance of werewolves, vampires, and Queen Victoria-- but Blameless is pure delight. Finally she has her cast in place, and proves she knows what to do with them. Even better, her writing style has smoothed over each novel. The dialogue and description are very witty-- kind of like Oscar Wilde with fangs. This is not just another steampunk paranormal romance.

Who would willingly marry and plan a future with a temperamental werewolf? Alexia Maccon, thats who. In this wonderful book of vampires, ghosts, dirigibles, and aethographic transmitters Alexia travels with her sister and best human friend to Scotland to track down that husband and in doing so she meets the inlaws. Along the way she picks up a new and very questionable friend who is commissioned by Alexia's husband, Lord Woolsey, to make her a new parasol complete with silver spikes and vampire poison. This exciting adventure of the soulless Alexia is only topped by the ending of the book which makes the newlyweds' future together questionable.

Perhaps I was so disappointed because Changeless had such a great cliff hanger that I envisioned a different book. But I found myself reading quickly in hopes that the book would pick up steam! It is amazing but the best parts of this series are the witty verbal battles between Alexis and Lord Maccon, Alexia and her best friend Ivy (who is an absolute airhead) and Professor Lyall and Lord Maccon. Unfortunately there were not many conversations from the above mentioned pairings...only Professor Lyall and Lord Maccon...which are very good. I didn't particularly care for the story line of Madame Lefoux in this book. In truth this book read like a filler book for part 4 as if the writer had to write something in order to justify a fourth book in the series. Many unresolved questions and no plot is how I would describe this book. It's a really shame because I have enjoyed the previous two books for there unique storyline, lively banter between characters and engaging characters. I hope the fourth book in the series Heartless will be better!

Loved it! Cannot wait for Blameless to get here! I've read sci-fi, fantasy, urban fantasy (vampires, etc) & a little steampunk for years. This is one of the few I've found recently that has a fresh approach, solid characters & a great story.

Humorous as usual with (nearly) nonstop action. The only issue I had was that the ending seemed rather anticlimactic and predictable. And a roll in the hay that is an actual roll in the hay is not what I would call alluring. Despite my criticisms, I will read the next book in the series. I just can't seem to get enough of Lord Conall Maccon...or Alexia.

This series is really neat! There is action, romance, mystery, and suspense. All in a little bit of a steampunk/supernatural setting. It is funny and serious both. There is a moral to the story, if you're paying attention!

Any book that combines romance and wit *must* be read. I had worried the sequel to Soulless could not live up to its predecessor, but, oh my, it does with a vengeance. My only regrets were the loss of time with Biffy and Akeldama after new characters were introduced and the fact that I have to wait until September to read Blameless. I prefer Alexia's spunk to other darkly luminous Victorian heroines who seem to be swooning about these days.

Blameless is a great addition to the collection - I actually enjoyed it more than Changeless. As always, Alexia is fantastic and even though Conall is not so involved in this book - his parts are great.
looking forward to Heartless!

By now, we know the Maccons are going to find their way back to each other, but good story-telling is the means to the end. I love the unpredictable pathway of Miss Carriger. Very satisfying.
