Not one of the better books by Clive Cussler. The story was only mildly interesting. I listened to this on cd and many times found my mind wandering away from the story. I would not suggest this story for anyone but to each his own.

Having read just about every Cussler work, I simply can't understand my inability to put down yet another of his books once I've started it!! Fun again, fresh adventure in a new arena, and the Pitts' drive to do what needs to be done to YET AGAIN save the world! This is why we read.

I adore Clive Cussler novels! This one was the worst that I've read. Way too much boring background. I only made it less of a 1/8 of the way through the story before I put it down. When I have to page through pages of background and description before I get to anything that moves the major plot, that just makes me loose interest. Would it get better? I don't know but if I have to skim pages to get to the plot, that is not good! I may pick it up again and do more skimming to find the plot/action and hope the story gets back on track to a true Clive Cussler novel. If it does, I know it will rock!

THIS BOOK IS BACK TO THE NORMAL DIRK BOOKS STORYLINE. I REALLY ENJOYED THE PLOT AND HOW IT CAME ALL TOGETHER. THE OIL SUPPLY WAS A NICE TOUCH TO SHOW HOW DEPEND WE ARE ON FOREIGN OIL. MAYBE TIME TO DRILL FOR MORE OIL IN THE U.S.A. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK TO COME OUT

Overall I liked the book. My only complaint is that there erred many stories to converge together and found myself forgetting a connecting story or asking where does that story tie in. And I was first confused of Pitt 's kids and himself when the chapters started. But I will attribute that to being my first DO adventure.

Cussler insists on placing himself in the story, as he has done with at least one other story of his I recently read. In this case he shows up as a bus driver in some hellhole in Mongolia. Interferes with my ability to suspend my disbelief and accept the story as presented. Does that mean I won't read his work anymore? Not hardly. He is a masterful story teller who researches his materials to an insane depth and can spread the story across eons - and then give you a satisfactory ending at that. Love his books. This is just an observation of what I call a minor nuisance.
