Awesome contemporary, fantasy with lots of magic and the age old right of good over evil. Nix is part of the three firesouls hiding first together as sisters. Nix is the third in this saga. She has additional magic but there is a prophecy that needs to be accomplished. Unfortunately, Nix has been charged by the vampire council as a murderer. She meets Ares who is one of the vampire enforcers. This story has lots of action, intrigue, suspense and a hint of romance. It is a fabulous book which brings in the first two sisters, whose stories have been told, as minor characters. I have looked forward to this book being released. I also look forward to the next books in this wonderful series. I received a complementary ebook copy of this book and chose to write a review.

Fugitive of Magic is the first novel in Linsey Hall's third Dragon's Gift series. Nix has a couple of special talents besides being a Firesoul. First, she can conjuror items with her magic. The less complicated the item, the less magic it takes. She can also stabilize and transfer magic from ancient items into other items. Since her magic is not offensive in nature, she has learned how to use most weapons to protect her friends and their store. When a group of demons attacks Ancient Magic to steal a particular item, she tracks them down by following them through a portal. Finding herself in another part of the city, she recovers the item but then witnesses a murder. Unable to save that person's life she leaves the scene of the crime to return home. That's when the vampire enforcer called Ares accuses her of murder and is prepared to take her in front of the vampire council. Can Nix prove her innocence, and catch the killer? Or will Ares refuse to believe her?
Overall, this was an exciting beginning to the third Dragon's Gift series. The plot is fast paced with plenty of action. Just note that each Dragon's Gift series should be read in order to truly appreciate the continuity from one series to the next.

I really like the world that Linsey Hall has created and I appreciate that she adheres to her own morality to ensure that archeological digs remain pure. I actually think Nix's gift of conjuring is the coolest because who wouldn't want to be able to conjure the best cheese sandwich ever? I'm excited to find out her secrets like we found out Cass' and Del's. My hope is that the last chapters of the saga are as strong as the opening with Cass' story. This one seemed a little hurried in some places which is why I gave it 4, not 5, stars. I look forward to the rest of Nix's story and would definitely recommend reading this chapter, as well as the rest. Good job, Linsey.

Please read to the end!!!
I really enjoyed this book and the characters, I thought it was well written and have enjoyed this series, I struggled however, due to a number of things. One of my struggles was caused by the fact that I had read a wonderfully written series, that I absolutely fell in love with that had a similiar "world" and somewhat similiar plot. After reading that, I started this series feeling like it was a little bit of a copycat *i don't think they copied ideas either way, I think the authors just coincidentally, seperately came up with similar ideas* This book was still good and well written, and I enjoyed it. However I came acrossed another struggle as I got further into reading this book; I realized that it was actually the first book in the third series of a 3 part series, that while they technically can be read seperately, they really ought to be read in order. When I found this out, I was excited and decided to start from the first book of the series when I finished the one I was currently reading. I started the first book, and was glad I did, because it began to clear some fuzzy things I had been confused about due to skipping the first 2 intervals of the story. Note: each "series" is the story of one of the girls, first is cass, then neph, and finally nix. I originally read the first 2 of nix's books and really enjoyed them. As I read on, I found myself comparing Cass's story to Nix's, they were unfortunately HIGHLY similiar and I almost felt like I was rereading the same story with different characters and a slightly different setting. I still enjoyed the book, but couldn't find the desire to continue reading cass' story, I decided to read neph's and see if it was any different, but alas it faced the same conundrum of basically repeating the story. All in all, while each "series" has wonderful characters and an interesting story, I don't really see anyone being able to read and enjoy all 3 series', and I recommend just choosing once series, and reading it and leaving it at that. While reading nix's story, I did have a couple parts where I went "when did that happen?" Or "what are they talking about?" But these were few and far between and were later explained enough that I was still able to follow. Good books but too similiar for me to enjoy reading all of them.

***4 Stars***
I’ve enjoyed Cass and Del’s journeys and all the crazy that has come with it, but Fugitive of Magic is my favorite starting off point book of all of them. There are similarities in how things occur, but I like that we are getting a little twist to Nix’s journey than we got with Cass and Del’s in that seems like hers will be a little more structured in nature than the others. I enjoyed being in Nix’s head and am looking forward to seeing what gets unearthed about her past and how it will affect her future. Ares had definitely peaked my interest and I can’t wait to see how he turns Nix’s world upside down. The pacing was good and I enjoyed how well everything flowed. Hanging out with Cass, Aiden, Del, Roarke, Conner and Claire was fun as always and I love how they are always backing each other up. And I’m quite interested to see where Ms. Hall takes us with this series and what changes, if any, it will bring to all involved.

Right from the start of Fugitive of Magic, you are pulled into the thick of things. Vampires, enforcers, demons, oh my! Ms. Hall’s books are a reading adventure with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you gripped within Ms. Hall’s wonderfully written world. So vivid and clear, you forget you are reading; instead, you feel as though everything is transpiring right before your very eyes. Honestly, the way Ms. Hall writes, you are no longer reading about Nix...you’ve become Nix and you’re smack dab in the center of her and her cohorts in all their outlandish escapades.
I highly recommend Ms. Hall to one and all!
This is a young adult, urban/fantasy paranormal series that is absolutely amazing and while it may be geared towards young adults, this series will most definitely appeal to one and all.
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.

Keeping a low profile, not being impulsive and avoiding be lured by her FireSoul traits had not saved Nix from the risks of being spotted and signed as a murderer. The only good thing about this: a sexy and powerful vampire Enforcer to die for. I did not expect Nix story began with so interestingly. Who did it? A mystery, clues to look for, framed and at risk of death. I was reading avidly because each time the story got better and I wanted to know. With death at her neck Nix had to face new challenges while trying to hide her FireSoul nature. Not an easy task with a suspicious vampire Enforcer upon her that frightened and at the same time, attracted her. Vampires, more monsters, evil mages, new allies and all the known friends there to back up against evil. There was action, suspense, lot of magic, romance and Nix was stepping forward. Can’t wait for the next book. Voluntarily reviewed this action-packed story that was very good and I enjoyed it a lot.

If you been following this series then you definitely don't want to miss this story. Answers about some of Nix's past are answered, but it is a tidbit that you know will eventually be answered. Ares is hot and Nix apparently agrees. Ares promises to help Nix and he is the type that is a protector, which makes him even hotter. I don't want to say much more because I hate spoilers, but I loved this book. Lots of action, but I really liked the intrigue and how they found the answers or solved the problems. Ares and Nix definitely make a good team together. I can't say enough good things, except to read it because you'll enjoy it.

Fugitive of Magic does a fantastic job kicking off Nix's set of books in the Dragon's Gift world. It was great to see the usual set of characters, and the new ones were also fantastic. Bringing in the vampires and secret societies made things very exciting. I'm a big fan of Ares' character, and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of him. This whole series is wonderful, and if you are looking for a great urban fantasy series, definitely try these. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

I've been looking forward to really getting to know what makes Nix tick as she's one who usually seems left behind whilst her two fellow FireSouls go out collecting magical artefacts and fighting off a few Demons along the way! It was high time for Nix to step out from behind the shops counter and have adventures of her own. Oh she's always got her 'sisters' backs and she's no slouch in a fight but as Cass and Del have uncovered their past ( not to mention found a couple of hunks along the way) I really wanted Nix to finally see herself as pretty bad ass! Even the synopsis belittles her conjuring powers and let me tell you there's been numerous occasions when it's been that very ability that has kept them alive.
So what did I think? Well it starts with a bang as Nix and their shop are attacked which leads her to go chasing after the thief except where she ends up isn't anywhere she expected. Then there's the poor guy Nix sees murdered and when she tries to save him it lands her in very hot water. Her magical signature is all over the dead guy and as he was an ally to the Vampires they demand justice. Well allow me to introduce Mr tall, dark and dangerous Ares aka the Enforcer and when he slaps a magical collar on Nix it just happens to be one that will blow her head off in three days! Ok then, escape the scary Vampire Enforcer, prove she's innocent oh and most importantly don't let anyone discover exactly what Nix is. It's going to be a walk in the park except Ares is on her trail!
As usual it's fast and furious with more than a few historical and mythological elements thrown in. I love the way the action crosses continents and there's always something so cool thrown in. This might just be the beginning of Nix facing off with the Vampires but it's a fun ride and I'm definitely onboard to read more.
This voluntary take is of a copy provided for me and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe a fair opinion

If you enjoy fantasy storylines that have depth, action, and romance this is a great read for you..I appreciate that the focus is on strong witty females who happen to fall for strong men but don't necessarily need their men to save them, the author tends to focus on how the male and female leads work better as a team even before they fall for each other. I also love the friends who become family aspect she created with the secondary characters. This story gives you all you can want from a great fantasy book and leaves you wanting more asap.

Nix is really strong and can defend herself. It was great seeing her thoughts and how she used her magic to get out of tight spots. The action scenes were really well written. She and Ares make a great team. There is a hint of romance, but not much. Other than Ares being hot, I would've liked to see Nix and Ares connect on a more meaningful/emotional level, but maybe that's something to see in the next book.
Summary:
Great action scenes
Smart, strong heroine
A little romance

Needing a quick book in a fantasy world, this story fit the bill. And when it included an archaeologist with a dragon soul, how could i refuse?
If you like a simple story with hidden depth in both the character and a plot that becomes more interesting as it develops, then i recommend this book with the following series. It is refreshing enjoying a story without a complicated plot from the get go. Life's complicated enough. This is good escapist book.

This book was quite interesting once you truly got into it. Because there are 3 young women this foretells at least 3 books to follow but, I think this us actually going to become 3 separate storylines that tend to intersect. So, enjoy.

This buckets of fast read where you really engage with the characters. I like Nix and her friends. Her origins are a mystery which I'm sure will come up in book 2 . Ares is a mystery. Hot as heck, but I like him. We will see what the trials bring. The archaeology aspect of Nix, Cass and Del's jobs are fascinating also. Happy reading!

the store said YA readers rated this well, however the language is not for YA audiences. I love to read and have passed that love on to my daughters. We are always looking for books to share with each other and the world. The cover caught our attention as well as the premis of the story. I was very disappointed to see the use of F*** within the first bit of the story. The characters were interesting, the world building was well done. All in all this is a series I would read and would recommend to my girls to read. Except I cannot because the author chose to use crude/ offensive language. My daughters are no longer young teens with the older being 20 now, however I could never encourage someone to read a book with language that I would deem more rated R than rated PG. The heroine efers to someone as appearing to be a good F***. That is not something I would say nor, would I want others to say it, so why would we want to read it said that way? Really it is lazyness on the part of the author. There are ways to get that across without resorting to crude language. I realize this book is not marketed at the YA audience specifically, so the author may not be intending this to be read by teens. However, when the store notes in the review section that readers of YA give it a high review then those of us looking for good YA fiction for our teens will consider the series. How sad that this story while well written, engaging and fun cannot be recommended for all audiences because of the work choice of the author. We will not be reading any more of this series and I cannot recommend it, nor give it a review based solely on the story as I do not want other readers of YA fiction to be misled into believeing this appropriate for that audience.

I have fallen in love with these 3 'Sisters' Reading of Nix and her story has got me so involved I don't think I'll be able to put the books down until they're completed♡ And to make it even better Linsey has tossed in my 2 favorite things. Vampires & Dragons!! Just can't get any better than this♡

Excellent! Can't wait for the next installment in Nix's story! This can be read as a stand alone series, but it is even better if you have already read Cass and Del's stories. I encourage you to go and check them all out! The author's world building has been fantastic all along, and I really found myself caring about all three of these fantastic heroines, and hoping for the best for them. If you are an Urban Fantasy fan, you should definitely check out all of this author's work.

Magic, mystery and romance in the paranormal world makes for an exciting read.
The author manages to keep strong characters from overwhelming others.
Story is well written and believable. This is the first time I was not disappointed
that there is a second book.

Ugh!!!! Waiting for the next book is going to be hard! I love Nix. She has been so patiently waiting to find out who she is and even though we don't really find out a lot about her background, you know it's going to be great when we finally do. You can't help root for her and a certain enforcer! Love it

July has never felt so far away ! Another brilliantly written book with huge c!off hanger questions, my mind is full of "wondering" as to what happens next with Nix and her handsome vampire Ares, as always I'm left craving the next book with admiration for linsey Hall's talent and hard work, always able to bring the reader into her world.

Linsey Hall
I’ve been following Linsey since Braving Fate, the Mythean Arcana series came out. I love her ability to mix History, Romance, and Fantasy all together is a way that makes sense! Shes done it again with her newest book, Fugitive of Magic, Dragons Gift, The Protector Book 1. I have to say this is the best one yet!
This series begins the story behind Nix, or Phoenix Knight, as she calls herself. One of a trio of strong, curvy, magically talented females with alpha tendencies and a you don’t scare me attitude. All 3 meet adversity head-on, and they don’t lose many scuffles! All of their adventures deal with finding out who and what they really are, as they really don’t know much beyond when they first met.
Nix, Cass and Del are 3 super talented ladies, each having different skills sets, which blend well together. They are more than best friends, they are sisters and don’t try anything they have each other’s back!! Together they run a magical treasure-hunting shop in Magic’s Bend, Oregon called Ancient Magic.
Nix is the Protector of the trio, and looking out their front shop window, she sees trouble with a capital T coming toward Ancient Magic. Deciding they needed to “kick butt”, Cass and Nix meet “Trouble” outside and begin to defend their shop. Things were going pretty well when “trouble” began to multiply. One of the bad guys snagged something from Ancient Magic making Nix see red. Calling for Del, the fight went on until one of the bad guys threw a transport charm opening a portal. Throwing caution to the Wind, Nix following the stolen artifact, jumped into the portal too!
This begins how Nix meets Ares, called the Enforcer, hes one tough hombre! Ares is part of the Vampire Council, the part that polices them. So what is he doing with messing with Nix? Who was the guy Nix could not save? What was he doing in Darklane to start with? And why does Nix only have 3 days to find out more about this person? Stay tuned or better yet get your own copy of Fugitive of Magic, you will be glad you did!
I was given an ARC, but the Review is purely mine and freely given!
