I just finished reading this book again. MacAlister is an excellent writer and has a wonderful sense of humor. I only wish I was that quick. This is a wonderful book from page 1 and just keeps getting better!! You definitely do not want to be drinking anything or you might end up snorting it. This book is a keeper. Enjoy!

Katie MacAlister's greatest strength lies in creating heroines who--though not always pictures of perfection and self-confidence--are thoroughly likable, funny, and are always figures with whom her readers can instantly identify. Tessa, of 'The Corset Diaries,' is no exception. Her misadventures on the set of a reality television show are side-splittingly funny, and her romance with the show's thoroughly irresistible male lead is all the more tender and sweet in contrast. Do yourself a favor and buy this book--you definitely won't regret it.

I bought this book on a with great trepidation since I had mixed feelings about past Katie Macalister books, loved The Trouble With Harry, hated Men In Kilts. But, I decided to give it a try since the premise sounded so interesting. Well, lets say I truly regretted my decision.

I found the idea of an overweight mature heroin very refreshing, being overweight and mature myself. The first four days were funny and original, the rest were just plain aggravating. I expect a mature woman to have self-respect and pride. Instead she put up with the hero's temper tantrums and groveled for his affection. It seamed like she was willing to put up with everything as long as he slept with her. Come on! He yelled at her one minute, and she welcomed him into her bed the next. Who does that? She snuck around behind his back, disregarding his decisions about his daughter, and was surprised when he got angry with her.

I forced myself to finish the book, hoping that it would get better, but it didn't. I ended up hating the main characters and hoping a fire would come and burn the house down.

Comedy is the hardest things to do, because what we each laugh out is often very different. I think some Americas maybe don't get Katie MacAlister because her humour it more geared to the droll, slapslick Brit quirkiness. I love that. Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Are you Being Served, Keeping Up Appearances. Often hit with hard belly laughs for me, but Yanks go they think it too much. All I can say is Say No More>>>if you don't like that was want to pull hair and scream and TRASH a good writers for PERSONAL reasons, they just don't buy the book. You know what you are getting with Katie Maclister. So to those lacking their recent humour update...flake off, the rest of us enjoy the touch of British farce and think it delightfully refreshing.
I enjoy the really happy feeling I have reading this book. So big thumbs up!

Another great book by Katie! Humor, realism and yet still allowing the escape we all read these for. I've bought every book Katie's written - adult and YA - and look forward to each new one.
Thanks again, Katie, for giving us laughter /and/ love.

This book provided me with chuckles galore. The heroine is a realistic character with whom I think most readers will feel some identity. The actual romance seemed somewhat secondary to the individual scenes portrayed so clearly by the author, which worked well. Somehow it made the story more real. I got my husband to read it and he found it tremendously humorous also. We like books with interesting secondary characters, and this book has plenty of those. This is one of McAlister's best, I believe. I will be giving it to many of my friends. It's not for everyone because the book contains sexually explicit scenes.

I was expecting a lot from Katie Macalister in this book, but it didn't quite deliver like her other two books did. Tessa's bodily functions were not funny, but humiliating, scenes. Both Tessa's and Max's lines to each other seem really forced - who is truly THAT candid with a new love interest? They just laid it all out there and there were no real obstacles to overcome in their relationship. The so-called obstacles were laughable: the five year age differnece between a 39 and 35 year old, the daughter was just a brat, the sister just seemed jealous of Tessa, the brother-in-law was just insane, and the "servants" were just all (to put it British) MAD. I can't believe I really read the whole book. It wasn't endearing that Max was angry at Tessa ALL THE TIME, but still wanted her body anyway - seemed shallow. Just was not a good story line altogether. Read Ms. Macalister's other books instead of this one.

How can you tell a really great writer? Other writers masquerade behind reader from....and trash her books!!!
Seriously, I am feed up with people taking pot-shots at a good book. Let the READER decide and you can see by dozens and dozens of reviews, they REAL readers love this book. I agree. It's not rocket science, the books is for fun and to make you laugh and on all levels it delivers.
Funny how all these so called readers all start with how they really wanted to like this book...get a clue...Mrs. Scarlet is doing it in the store, with the meat clever.

Dull, flat and frequently crass. It's a harsh description of any book, but that's what I have to give this one. I've done historic recreation, so picked up this book hoping to read an entertaining romantic comedy because I know how funny these situations can get sometimes.
What I found was full of cliches and sophmoric jokes concerning bodily functions, with snide remarks between the hero and heroine that passed as wit. I kept asking myself why she was interested in this guy. Then I found myself asking why she slept/was continuing to sleep with this guy if he was such a jerk. The ending is abrupt and somewhat contrived and I found no real indication that the couple had grown or made a commitment to one another.
It's sad because I really wanted to like this book and ended up feeling like I was about to throw it against the wall. Friends have told that some of her earlier works are better, but there wasn't enough here to convince me to try.

Love, love, LOVE Katie Macalister's books but NOT this one! Just couldn't like the heroine...and couldn't understand the attraction between her the the hero, Max. She's a size 18, five years older than him, throws up on this shoes at their first meeting, breaks wind in front of him at the next, babbles unintelligently, meddles in his relationship with his daughter, and yet....he falls madly in love with her. I really like the fact that Ms. Macalister writes about women who are less than perfect, but this one was just too irritating for words! Couldn't finish the book. Hope the next book is back up to Ms. Macalister's usual standards.

After more than eight years of hunting down this book to purchase, I am finally the proud owner of my own Kindle version! Maybe someday my local bookstore will have it in stock...

This is a wonderful book and you will not regret any time or money you spend on it. Katie MacAlister is a phenomenal author and "The Corset Diaries" is an example of her at her best.

Enjoy!

Yet again Katie delivers a book full of open, honest, so-real-I-can't-believe-she-wrote-that humor, that has become an endeering drawing point to her books. Although I am a large fan of paranormal romances on any given day, Katie's books offer a refreshing lift out of the dark and serious, into the light and purely enjoyable. Read 'The Corset Diaries' with an open mind, and you will find that this is a simply sumptuous book for accompanying you on those long days on the beach, or while sipping one of those icy coffee delights at the local cafe.

Hugely funny romance novel. I laughed out loud at several parts. Only the second book I've read of this genre where a) the heroine is NOT skinny, and b) she is funny and neurotic and strange and has hang-ups and... in other words, she's perfectly normal. If you like this book, I recommend Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series.

Another wonderful Katie Mac book. I love the fact that the heroine is "skinny challenged", like so many women today are. We need more books like this!
From my gigglings and laugher, my husband decided it must be one heck of a book, so much so that he is now reading his first ever 'romance', and has the rest of Katie Mac's books next in the pile of books he must read... the TOP of the pile.

Once again, I find myself loving a Katie Mac book. I get so sick of goddess gorgeous heroines. It's SO nice to have one that is very down to earth and as accident prone as I am.
I laughed so hard. Yes, it's not Shakespeare, but then, silly, I did not buy it expecting that! I want what MacAlister delivers - fun!

This book grabs you right at the beginning, and it kept my attention. Very funny and light hearted romance. Some pretty steamy scenes and likable charaters. It was an interesting, unique set up for a romance. Very good. If you haven't read it I also Highly recommend Improper English.

I really enjoy the author's writing style. Her characters are not the typical perfrct supermodels- they are ordinary women in interesting circumstances. Her dialog is witty and fun to read! I have read several of her novels and this one is a particular favorite.

this book practically premiered on the bestseller list, showing, yet again, why Ms. MacAlister is one of the hotest writers today. This books is so amusing, the character's so charming.
I loved Men in Kilts and Improper English. I am waiting eagerly The Trouble with Harry and You Slay Me. This writer is always a pleasure to read.

Katie MacAllister is my new favorite author. This was the first book of her that I read and it is absolutly laugh-out-loud funny! It is everything that everyone else says; sweet, funny, sexy, and all in all thoroughly enjoyable! It is written in a journal format and the style really keeps you interested. This is a book I recommend anyone read!

I thought this would be witty, clever chick lit, but it was a just a typical romance novel with a predictable, time-worn plot. (Chubby American poses as wife to rugged Brit for a TV show, and they fall in love, meet with obstacles, but have a happy ending.) Just okay, not particularly good.
