The hero, John Grantham, is one of my favorite romance heroes ever, with his sardonic wit and his dedication to his job (he's a doctor). The heroine too is amazing: cheerful and pretty like most romance heroines, but with so much strength and depth to her character.

I understand why Milan made this a novella - frankly, I didn't really care enough about Lydia and Jonas to read a full length novel about them. However, this seemed to wrap up too neatly, too quickly... I did like how Jonas's past with Lydia affected his relationship with her, though. I thought that aspect was unique and well-written.

A lovely historical romance! I especially loved the attention to history of medicine details without be overwhelming. Would recommend, especially as a sweet holidays story. Can't wait for the next books!

I'd enjoyed all three of the Brothers Sinister stories so far. The novellas have featured the women while the novels focus on the "Brothers". The women resonate with today's reader and the men are flawed, forthright and forward thinking. This is just the right combination of historical setting with men and women we can identify with.

This was my second Courtney Milan book, I'm really enjoying the Brothers Sinister series. Milan did a nice job continuing the story series with other characters but still keeping the books connected. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

It was great how Jonas Grantham was at first focused on finding a wife by ranking them based on looks. His complement to her seems like an insult at first, but then you realize it's wonderful: "You are only the eleventh prettiest woman in all of Leicester until you open your mouth." [...] "Once you speak," he said, "you have no equal."
