Eve Silver is an absolute master of weaving a story. You fall in love with the characters and they become part of your conscious thoughts. The story lines are amazingly well thought out. The mystery and suspense makes you not want to put the book down and when I'm done I mourn the loss of the characters in my day...thats when o know I've read a good book. It's my third time through this series and so far book 1 was still amazing. Please please Eve Silver continue your gothic romance mystery books. You have a gift as no other.

I loved this story. It was beautifully written and is so reminiscent of the classic Gothics I used to read in my younger years. I'm glad to see this genre is having a comeback. If you haven't read a "new" Gothic but would like to, I'd suggest starting with this novel. There's mystery, an English setting, a big mansion with servants, a plot with interesting characters and twists and turns, a complicated hero, a likeable heroine you root for, and a beautiful romance - everything you want in a Gothic. I can't wait to read another by Eve Silver in this genre, "His Dark Kiss."

Loved this book as I love Gothic suspense with some romance thrown in. Read it quickly and it had so many twists and turns it was fun to try and figure out what was real and imagined. Will buy more of these books by Eve Silver.

This book was full of suspense, mystery and love, unwavering love. From the first chapter of this book you are guessing who the killer is... Then once you think you know who the killer is something happens that leaves you changing your mind. I loved this book and would highly recommend it to others. I haven't read a book this good in along time.

This very well-written, well-edited book kept my interest from the beginning. I would highly recommend it, etc., etc., etc.
So the stupid part? I loved the dress on the cover. LOVED it! The intricacy of the back detail is gorgeous. Sorry, but that's what I'm going to remember most about this book in the near future.

I loved this so much. Usually read regency romance but had never read a dark Gothic romance apart from Jane Eyre & it was pleasant. It put me through a roller coaster of emotions & I couldn't put it down even through the heart chilling parts. Totally recommend it.

Dark Desires is a well written gothic romance with interesting characters and plot twists.

At her core, Darcie Finch is brave and strong. She is one who learns from the hard lessons in life. Dr. Damien Cole seems dark and dangerous, but he is a good man who is overwhelmed with past regrets. Together they are unstoppable.

Darci sister helps her find work in mysterious Dr cole household. While there she discovers there in some secrets in the Dr past and she also can't fight her attraction to the mysterious doctor.

Highly enjoyable and kept me on edge as I wanted to see what would become of all the characters.

Sometimes we need to remember the distant past to realize how far we've come. Ms Silver takes us back to the darker days of the Gothic period with vivid pictures of the danger and dirt of the old London streets and the fears and hopes of a young girl struggling to survive them.

All the suspicions were that Dr. Cole was a murderer of young women, and the truth was not revealed until the last chapter of the book. It will truly keep you guessing! I love novels such as this one with romance thrown in, of course.

the story was fanTAStic!! I adored the characters and only wished it would never end. Ms Silver did a perfect job of keeping me in suspense and guessing. I regret not reading this earlier. I'm going to continue reading the series!!!! Please write more period pieces, I love them!! (-;

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED READING THIS. When it first started out I thought it was going to be another Jack the Ripper rip-off. I was so wrong. Jane Austin meet Jane Eyre, throw in mystery, murder and romance, and take us back to the 1800's with all its richness and charm of that era. I couldn't put it down. I devoured it.

Eve Silver captured the gritty darkness of Whitechapel, the relentless pain of abject poverty and the slimey underbelly of human nature. Her characters were believable representations of the social strata of the times. The book is dark without overwhelming and unnecessary gore. A love story without gratuitous sex. I look forward to other works by this author.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. All of the characters were well liked. Such a page turner from the beginning to the end. I am mostly proud of how Abigail saw fit to send her sister away to Dr.Cole and not subject her to the fate that hunts Abigail daily. Well written book can't wait to read more from this author.

I thoroughly enjoyed this riveting gothic romance! This tale of love between Darcie Firth and Damien Cole is threatened by the harrowing darkness of Whitechapel's most famous serial killer, Jack the Ripper. Well worth a click!

I love historical romance and mystery and this had very dark tones to a wonderful unexpected romance. Darcie and Damien fight off inner demons only to thwart a real life devil from separating them eternally. Eve Silver has a fantastic grasp of pairing mystery, dark subject matter, and undeniably sexy scenes that make any girl's heart skip a beat!

I loved the dark gothic atmosphere and the plot created by the author. Sadly, the sex scenes just didn't fit the general storytelling style of this book (too many cliches), and actually detracted from the mood of the book. But interesting read nonetheless

This story had a great mystery along with believable romance. It was extremely well written. I liked that the heroine was the pursuer although she was an inexperienced virgin. Maybe the romance was a little unrealistic in this respect but not so much that I could not believe it.

Dark Desires was an entertaining read but not particularly memorable. I really wouldn't call this a "dark gothic" tales because it lacked the darkness, suspense, and creepiness that I would expect from a truly dark gothic tale. The plot wasn't original but it was still interesting enough. I liked and sympathized with Darcie from the very beginning. Although, the romance was fraught with instant attraction one really couldn't blame her considering Damien's appealing attributes. Despite the latter she grew in self-confidence and self-reliance. The 2 or 3 loves scenes were just okay. I didn't find them to be particularly graphic or vivid as some reviewers apparently did. As for the mystery part of the story, it was also just okay. There really weren't many male suspects from which to choose. However, the reason for the mad man's last obsession was well done and has a twisted logic. There wasn't enough blood and gore to suit me but then again this wasn't suppose to be a horror. LOL Despite what some reviews implied, the only body parts were those associated with Damien's study of human anatomy. None of the murders occurred in real time but rather details were vaguely given via gossip and the newspaper. I didn't concern myself with the historical accuracy of a romance between Darcie and Damien so I enjoyed their romance and was pleased with their outcome. This book is a stand alone read, i.e. no cliffhanger ending. I don't plan on reading the next book in the Series. I didn't find the plot or writing impressive enough to read beyond this free book. I'll look for something truly dark and with more depth.

There was enough mystery and intrigue to keep me interested until the end. The characters were likeable. I did fine myself skimming thru the middle of the book because there was too much reputation of the main characters inner thoughts. Overall a good read.

This Victorian Gothic romance novel pushes all the right buttons: brooding doctor, creepy setting, mysterious secrets, multiple suspects, romantic push and pull and cornered heroine. It has been hard to find a Gothic romance in the tradition of Victoria Holt, but with a more sensual edge. This book by Eve Silver fit solidly into that category.

Darcie is the down-on-her-luck woman sent by her sister to serve in the household of the enigmatic Dr. Damien Cole. He does mysterious, bloody things in the shed at the back of the property, and it is clear the servants of the household are afraid of and/or do not approve of the handsome but remote doctor. Soon, Darcie finds herself closely involved in the doctor's work, but only told as much as necessary to complete her tasks. Is Dr. Cole hiding information or just being fastidiously discreet?

The dreary London location comes through clearly in the book, as does the danger. Women are being horrifically murdered, and Dr. Cole seems some how connected.

The relationship between Damien and Darcie is charged with attraction, but fairly abruptly tips into more. Darcie moved very quickly from skittish mouse to secure siren, and it struck me as a little unrealistic. I was also disappointed in the TSTL decision made by Darcie near the end of the book. Sure, she had grown into a more confident woman, but sadly I didn't think she had become a stupid one at the same time. I had hoped Ms. Silver would not stoop to such a common plot device, but I was disappointed. Regardless, the end was exciting and climactic and had a thorough and pleasing epilogue.

If you are looking for an overtly sensual romance paired with a moody, suspenseful Victorian historical featuring touches of horror made popular at the time by Mary Shelley, then I recommend you pick up this first book in the Dark Gothic series by Eve Silver.

If you are looking for a well written novel based in Victorian London, this is for you. It has a very Jack the Ripper feel to it, allowing it to keep you hooked. I loved how Darcie started out meek yet her character built steadily throughout the story. I enjoyed reading the story very much.

Dark and suspenseful. Good use of "clues" and environment to pull you to conclusions that may or may not be correct. The author easily brings you into Darcie's world. A wonderful read for dark rainy nights.
Does include dead bodies, surgery/ dissection scenes and sex scenes.

This is pretty good; kind of keeps you guessing. It definitely has all the usual elements of the genre but in a pretty good way. It seems to me like it was pretty well-written and not full of modern expressions, etc. All in all a better-than-average example of its type.

The story of an impossible romance amongst such horrors is fetching but tends to be repetitive in parts to pertinent information to the final climax. The characters are not fleshed out and fall a little flat in comparison to the steamy elaborations.

I found this book very interesting. It kept you guessing almost to the end about who was the bad guy. It was very hard to put the book down. i would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this kind of book.

The author sets the stage very well. The main character, Darcie has just met the man of her dreams. But their meeting coincides with a killing spree. And Darcie can't help but suspect the mysterious man she's falling for... Great tension and nice period writing.

Well written example of the genre. I was guessing up to the end. There was great foreshadowing and intrigue that kept the story moving and interesting. The gradual revealing of erroneous beliefs was well done. The only think I thought did not fit was the epilogue, which had too much happening. I will definitely read more.
