The freshness of the main character, who all should be aware is a mix-bred of Elven and Human, is delightful. It is written with that fantasy and synchronizes fantasy, whimsy with human stories, such as Santa. I enjoyed this book and will more likely read others of this capable writer,

What a wild and crazy adventure. The characters are gritty and interwoven into a rollercoaster plot. I don't know what "Steampunk"is, but I like it. Lots of twists and turns in this book, and I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

This book had an interesting concept, but the execution was less than desirable. This book had poor plot development. I always tell my students to "show not tell" the story, and Ms. Sedgwick could use this lesson as well. The idea of the different species fighting was interesting, but this book lacked a considerable amount of emotion and character development. I read it because of the semi steampunk vibe, but was disappointed with the predictability of the story and the abundance of grammar and punctuation errors.

Really enjoyed The Tinkerer's Daughter. Both the Tinkerer and "daughter" are interesting characters. The tale has some twists but for the most part is fairly predictable. I probably will not continue with the series.

Overall, I rather enjoyed this book. It could definitely use some polishing, and the plot is kind of contrived. Okay, very contrived. But the major characters (Breeze and Tinker) are well developed and people you can care about. Some of the other characters could benefit from more development.

If you're looking for a deep read, this ain't your book. As something to read while waiting at the DMV, though, it's not bad.

Full of imagination, interesting ideas, and a fresh perspective.
I admit I don't dip my toes in the fantasy genre much but I was so glad to see a heroine with a brain and skill without making ridiculous blunders.
The story intrigued me and there were only a few draw backs. Some of the later plot points were a little easy to see ahead of time. Also, the heroine's diction seemed to slip from time to time into American modern vernacular which would have been fine if it had been consistent throughout the book but it wasn't. The setting seemed to be a little old world fantasyland and the modern diction thrown in was a bit jarring.
Regardless, it was worth the read. I enjoyed the details immensely.

This is a delightful story about a young girl who doesn't fit in because she is half-human / half-elf.
It's wonderful to watch her grow into a young woman.
I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it to everyone!

I loved reading this book beyond words! It is so entertaining and you can never guess what would happen next. Read for yourself and experience the thrill. Upon finishing the first book, I immediately went on the store and purchased the second one.

Has it's predictable points. Enjoyed the book for the story line, new type of characters and direction of the story. The credibility factor was a bit hard to take at times even though it's fantasy fiction and we suspend credibility, but I feel human nature needs to be taken into account to make fantasy palatable.

I enjoyed this fantasy story. It combined a good story, a lot of action and a little mystery. The end of the story didn't leave you hanging to make you buy the next book but rather made you want to read the next one.

An unlikely girl in an unlikely time lives an amazing adventure. This book mixes fantasy with retro-science fiction in a completely believable story. Very entertaining. This is a real page turner. Enjoy.

This is the beginning of a great series of books. So far I think I have read 4 of them, with the first 3 being a group about the Tinkerer's daughter. The next book continues with her daughter. I am hoping for another book continuing the second series soon. Very well written and fun to read.

Downloaded this for free not expecting much. Ended up being unable to put it down. The story is engaging, and at least slightly different than anything else I've read. While the writing style could be better the story being so engaging makes up for it and only at times did I find the writing to distract me from the story.

Actually kept me reading all into the night. Couldn't wait to take a break so I could read some more! Was sad to see it end. Nice plot development, good story line, and excellent writing. Would love to read a sequel!

All the elements that I love about true fantasy, my style! A great read and well thought out characters in an adventure that's really fun. Now on to the second book " Tinkers War" and so far it reads as well as first book!

It started out with so much promise. I was pulled in very quickly, but soon the story descended into juvenile fiction. By the end I had to push hard to finish the book. I like the idea, just wasn't quite pulled off.

Sedgwick is a definite steampunk star when it comes to creating a fast paced book. This is first in series which will turn you into a fan before you are beyond first chapter. Creative story line combined with imaginative gadgets is steampunk fans wished for book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Steampunk, well written, is a delight and Sedgwick provides an interesting premise, a twist on the genre, and enough action to keep me interested to the end. I will definitely read the rest of the series.

Very enjoyable. I'm a science fiction reader and just happened to pick this story by mistake, but it wasn't a mistake after all. A really good read with 2 more books that carry on the story which I also bought. Just wish there were more to go with them. Definitely lots of action!

This is my first time reading a "steampunk" novel. I liked the plot and how the main character developed over time, but found the rapid growth of the character and the technology a bit unbelievable. I was abe to easily imagine the scenes in the story and would enjoy it very much as an anime cartoon.
