After loving the first 2 books in this series, this one was kind of a let down. The story dealt with some pretty serious issues like addiction and cruelty that took a lot of the fun out of reading the book. Still, it was good enough to get me to read the next book in the series, which I'm glad I did.

Once again a rattling good yarn. Adventures & perils abound. Heroes & Heroines. The only shortcoming is the short length of the tale but as it is written with the intention of being read by 12 yr olds, I can see the reasoning in this. Not that you have to be 12 yrs old. I am 70 yrs old and thoroughly enjoy all the tales.

This book is well written and quite original. I personally enjoy how it shares the main Character role, yes Will is the main Character but the are others brought to significant attention as well. It's a non-stop reading experience. You just don't want to quit reading. As soon as you finish it,you can't wait for the next adventure to begin. My only drawback about these books is they are a little bit predictable, perhaps this was written at the leisure of younger readers. In general this is a delightful addition to the Ranger's Apprentice series.

Wow, great book. The book started off slow, recovering from the mediocre book three of the series, but once things got moving it was awesome. Very clean, very kid-friendly. By the end of the book I was literally smiling at how happy the ending was. Already bought book 5...

Readers who enjoy fantasy and the excitement of battles between fictional nations in the medieval times will love this book!
This is by far my favorite series because of its likable and some what mysterious characters.

This series gets better with each book. By book three the characters are very well defined and the author is talented enough not to disappoint us with uncharacteristic actions in an attempt to keep the story moving. I also enjoy the fact that there are multiple main characters that have had heroic moments, all the while we readers cheer them on. I just purchased book four and can't wait to start reading it.

Reading the whole series. Great story, lots of action and good character development. Thanks a ton to the author. I'm really glad the series is long. Looking forward to following Will on his journey into adulthood.

I am enjoying the whole series. Volume 3 follows the kidnapped princess and Will into the icebound lands where they are enslaved. How they are freed and make friends with their captors makes a great tale.

very well written. In contrast to his other books this one didn't leave you with the cliff hangers that were so common in the other books. doesn't leave me wanting to read the next but knowing that there are more in the series I know that I will continue to read.

Good plot, simple and effective writing. I enjoyed the detail in the battle and the verisimilitude the characters give to the story. The Skandians reminded me much of the badgers of Slamandrastron in the Redwall series. They were lovingly blood-thirsty, brutal, tough, invariably true and loyal. I love how they interacted with Halt throughout the story, and he with them. There is no doubt I'll read this entire series again once I've finished it.

Book(s) entertaining and well paced, but way too short for your $. Many better authors are selling their much longer books for half the price. Should have been a trilogy, but greed got in the way I guess.
