Wonderful. I love Rosamunde Pilcher's stories so much. Her characters are beautifully developed and complicated. The Shell Seekers is my fa vorite and Winter Solstice runs a close second. 5 bright, shiny stars.

A beautifully told story once again by Rosamunde. Read it before sleep because it's a gentle story of how people of different backgrounds and ages can come together in love and respect to form a family. Highly recommend it!!

I loved the book. Even though I found it predictable, it was still a joy to read and it puts you right there in the middle of Wales in winter. I enjoyed the characters so much I didn't want it to end.

This the third time I have read this book! Every few years I love to go back and read it. It is a lovely book and Rosmunde Pilcher's writing is so descriptive that you can visualize every scene. One of my most favorite books!

Loved the character development! Loved the setting in Cotswold country, the details of life there--countryside beauty, architecture of homes and villages, table meals and settings, animal lives, emotional turmoils and contentment of unforgettable characters, etc..

I love Rosamunde Pilcher and have ready most of her books. This book was the perfect winter read. She word paints her scenes so well I felt I was there. I recommend this book, especially curled up under a blanket on a cold snowy night.

Along with Rosamunde Pilcher's The Shell Seekers, I think this is one of her best. I reread this book each fall in anticipation of the holiday season. The characters are well drawn and the descriptions of London and northern Scotland are excellent. I would strongly recommend this book.

Another great book by Ms. Pilcher! I have been a loyal fan for years and this one did not disappoint. She develops her characters to such an extent that I feel that I know them and am experiencing their lives. I hated for the book to end!

Excellent read. Very comfortable to read, I did not want to put it down,Read into early morning hours. Fully went with the characters as they moved and shifted their lives over one winter season. Each character's entry was timely and an engaging fit with the others. I really did leave this book wanting to know more about the coming seasons. Did their lives proceed as one would assume. Excellent!! May read again in time.

If you loved "the Shell Seekers" couldn't put "September" down and read "Coming Home" 3 times...Winter Solstice is the book for you. Wonderful! Typical Rosamonde Pilcher...grabs you from the first paragraph and never lets you go. The characters are well defined, the story is riveting and the joy of the read never stops. [...] What a book...and is it really Pilcher's last?

I chose this rating because, even though I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I wanted to read about what happened to the characters in the story. I felt that the book ended too soon, and I was still wanting more. Maybe that's my flaw--but I would have been happy to read what happened next. Superb read, though!

Overall a classic Rosamunde Pilcher approach - rich character development and her uncanny way of making the ordinary lives of ordinary people seems magical. If I had a wish for it would be that it did not end so abruptly and that their was more closure on the relationship of Sam and Carrie

This is Rosamund Pincher at her best. A simple but beautifully wrought story of ordinary people coming to terms with tragedy, loss and unexpected change. The characters are believable and one is drawn into their story. It is set mainly in the north of Scotland in the days before Christmas. This book has become one of my "Christmas Books", the books I read every year to get me into the Christmas spirit.
