Beautifully written story of love, trust, and betrayal. I finished reading and had to start it over immediately because I missed the characters. They made this into a movie years ago and I have to find it and watch again.

CIrcle of Friends takes the growing pains of two young girls through the Convent education to university social life. The plot is predictable, but Binchy gives her characters such strong feelings that the reader understands the rigors of dealing with the class system in Ireland as the aftermath of WWII impacts both the social climbing Nan Mahon and the upperclass Foleys and Weststeads. The drama of Nan's injury wraps all the problems together.

I hated for it to end because the characters were so richly developed. The author carefully develops each character over the course of the story and provides wonderful details that make you feel as if you are there. This is a slice of young college student life that people can still identify with today.

An oldie but a goodie. Like all Maeve Binchy books this one is easy to read and totally engaging. You love the characters so much that you want to know them personally, and they are so well-drawn that actually you feel that you do. Possibly her best I think but that's maybe just because I loved the main character so very much.

You have to be ready to follow many characters and they come in and out of each others lives but they become so well defined you love them all, the weak and the strong. Friendship is the primary theme but means different things to different people. This author is especially good in her presentation of women and the effects of their childhood experiences on their adult life choices.

Binchy books are pleasant easy reads. They are similar to Hallmark greeting cards. The characters are people you would enjoy meeting, but her work hold little suspense. You know the end will always turn out well for all of heroes in the book.

Enjoyed every minute of her book. It was so complete that it felt like I was living their life right along with them. She sets the stage so complete that by the time you are one fourth through the book you can not put it down you must know how it ends. I attend a knitting/book club and we share her books in our group.
