This book is a beautiful combination of nature and art information, profusely illustrated. A relative who is a nature artist (and makes good money at it) picked it up and could not put it down, says she will definitely order her own copy.

I purchased this for my grandson, a high schooler. I spent several hours leafing and reading through this remarkable sharing of drawing techniques by John Laws. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys field sketching or any others interested in bird art.

This book has absolutely everything I could have hoped for in a book on how to draw a specific kind of animal. It breaks down the bird's anatomy in various ways and shows how it works and then simplifies it for the artist. It also outlines and shows how to correct common mistakes beginners make when drawing birds!

Laws guide is very instructive with regard to sketching and painting birds. "Simply start with the posture," he says and then goes on to talk about the skeletal makeup and muscles of the birds. Very good!

The drawings and descriptions were very good. The author described that he had dyslexia that was diagnose and treated. I have dyslexia, mine was never diagnosed or treated. I wanted to contact the author and tell him I appreciated him sharing that information. I would recommend this book to any one interested in birds I am a bird sculpture and found the information very useful. www.vernsbirds.blogspot.com

Very useful and good instructional book on drawing and, in general, shaping birds (I sculpt more than draw). The author teaches you how to look properly, how to sketch and how to finish, plus how to avoid current mistakes such as the "snowman shape". He loves nature and drawing, and it's something his writing exudates in every page.

Clear, detailed yet simple to follow techniques for understanding
and drawing birds written by an artist who inspires with
his own work. Very supportive book which provides lots of
encouragement for moving forward.

This book delivers the incredible anatomy of birds in a manner any amateur artist can follow and learn from. Once you understand the anatomy, your bird drawings take on life. And, it's fun. Peg Robinson

This book helps me create my own bird patterns
for carving, it has saved me the cost of purchasing
bird patterns that can be very costly. As far as I
am concerned it's a must for bird carvers.
