Terrific read. Our Forest Firefighters are a special kind of hero....A neighbor is a team leader who has fought in the west for decades....I am reading about events that he suggested....this year he retired...

This book not only tells the story from the perspective of the lone survivor but also tells what being a Hot Shot is like. It also tells the life story of Brendan.
Anyone who is interested in wildland or is involved in wildland this is a good read.

Eye opening, real life account of some of America's bravest behind the scenes heroes. Most people have no idea what Hot Shots are, but this book is eye opening and paints a beautiful portrait of one of fire fightings greatest tragedies.

I started reading it this morning and finished by evening, I couldn't put it down. Brendan does an amazing job of explaining how wildfires are fought without being so technical that a civilian wouldn't understand, and he really brought his brothers to life on the page. Thank you to him for sharing his story with the world.

Phenomenal! Very emotional having met Brendon, to hear the story from his first accounts. Would recommend this book to anyone. Being a firefighter myself I can't imagine losing my whole crew. Brendon is an amazing person, and God does everything for a reason

An amazing book, very informative. I feel that Brendan did an excellent job telling his story. I know it could not have been easy for him to do. I had the chance to meet him he is a very nice young man. My heart goes out to him and all of the families. This book is close to my heart, as I live in the Prescott area and when this tragedy happened it felt like I had lost 19 of my family members. The community just came together with their thoughts and prayers. I am glad that he told his story I hope that it will help him heal a little bit more. I am proud that he is trying to get changes made so that this will not happen again.

Brendan McDonough did a excellent job writing this book. As hard it was for him to re-cap the loss of his Brothers, he shared what happened on that awful day in Yarnell and how it affected the lives of us who live in Prescott, Arizona.

Brendan,
Thank you for your time in writing this book.
I can only imagine how this helped you through some tough times.
I am 58 a Vol. Firefighter in the mountains of Colorado. I am not ready to lay down my tools. I choose to stay in my district to protect my neighbors. Keep in mind, 2 out 3 Firefighters are Volunteers.

This book is an Excellent read.

Don't be discouraged by the negative comments from other Firefighters, everyone has a opinion.
We were not there, We can't believe maginebwhich way the wind was blowing or the smoke.

I read this book in 2 days! I am not a big reader. But I found I could not put it down. I had to keep going.

Rest easy....

My Lost Brothers: The Untold Story by the Yarnell Hill Fire's Lone Survivor

Excellent book. It was a quick read for me and completely captivating. Brandon writes about how the Granite Mountain Hotshots "Brotherhood" literally changed his life and his willingness to write candidly of his experiences; the good and bad. I remember when this terrible wildfire event occurred and could not imagine the sense of loss that Brandon has endured.

I live near Prescott, Arizona and experienced the rapid change of wind direction that contributed to the disaster in the Yarnell Wildfire. I highly recommend this book for everyone because, you are increasingly likely to be effected by a wildfire. Here is a chance to get ahead of something and STOP bad things from happening. With global warming raising temperatures world wide and wildfires increasing in frequency, size, temperature and devastation, we need to address the sorry state of our support for Hotshots (wildfire firefighters). These groups of HEROS stand ready to save lives, homes and property and we send them into the flames poorly equipped, paid less than many babysitters, without benefits, and undertrained. They risk their lives for us. This book is written by the only survivor of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who fought and died in the Yarnell wildfire (Arizona) on June 30, 2013. Nineteen, that’s NINETEEN men died in the fire. It is a clear and unashamed account of the events before during and after the fire but, more importantly, it is a call for Americans to: learn about the increasing threat from wildfires, understand how wildfires are fought and adequately support hotshots in their heroic work. Step One: READ THE BOOK. Step Two: GET INVOLVED!
