All week long I looked forward to working my garden this Labor day weekend and, sure enough, it stormed all day. I picked up my Kindle to read a chapter or two before I resigned to another Netflix weekend.

I just wanted to get started on my next book, Protocol One. Needless to say, Netflix never had a chance. I couldn't put the Kindle down until I had finished the entire book.

I really appreciate that Nate Goodman kept the focus on the story without going to the extreme on every little inconsequential detail. Many authors seem to go overboard with the details to show off their knowledge and research. I just want a great story. Nate has the gift of balance when it comes to details.

I also like the fact that I didn't have to juggle a multitude of characters in my mind as I enjoyed the book. Protocol One has just enough interesting characters to get to know without continuously asking yourself, "Wait, who was that again?"

I just bought the next three books in the Jana Baker series and can't wait to see where Jana ends up now that she knows she was born to be a special agent.

I enjoyed Protocol One and look forward to more of the series. Five stars for sure.

FBI agent of 23 years service, Chuck Stone, recruits the recently appointed, ambitious young assistant to Rune Dina, the CEO of Petrology Corporation. She is to attempt to find out what was secretly being planned after the interception of a message from the company to All Quaeda's third most important leader rings all of the 'terrorist plot' bells. With initial reluctance but great cunning and bravery, Jana Baker pursues her given objective.

Protocol One is a quick, easy read with a strong, basic story which highlights the courage and inventiveness of the woman who will become agent Baker. Good dialogue and characterisations of Jana herself and the agent who first requested her help, and with whom she finds an unexpected connection. It works well as an introductory prequel if a little light for a full novel. It will certainly further flesh out the character of the woman behind the agent in the Protocol series of books by Nathan Goodwin.

My thanks to the author for a free, advance copy of his book

This is the first book in Nathan Goodman’s Jana Baker series and it is a good introduction to the character. This is a short book and a quick read so there is not much character development. Jana is hired by Rune Dima, the CEO of Petrocal, to execute stock trades. She is unaware of his connection to Al-Qaeda until she is approached by the FBI, who has picked up a communique signaling an impending strike of some kind.

Goodman keeps the action moving at a good clip and it was an interesting read. Jana’s actions for the FBI have her rethink her career path and it will be interesting to see where Goodman takes her in her other assignments.

Characters are well developed, the plot is intriguing and it's definitely a fast-paced read.

I like Jana; she's self-assured, feisty, independent and intelligent and has a wry sense of humour. Stone's a good father figure and they make a good, if somewhat unusual team. Really enjoyed the byplay between the two.

Suspenseful and absolutely nerve-wracking at times. Goodman is superb at ratcheting up the tension notch by notch.

An author whose every book I'll definitely be reading, have already downloaded the next in the series, Protocol 14!

This was a free e-copy via an author promo and I chose to post a review. This was one ripper of a read!

A quick suspenseful tale that lets us see Jana Baker obtaining her first job after college, with her excitement and interest in stock trading. However immediately after she is hired there is a strange problem, as a man she has never met approaches her in a coffee shop with knowledge about her he should not have. The story drags you in right away, with a great plot and constant action as Jana makes a decision that will change her life.A super story as an addition to the Jana Baker Spy series, I loved finding out the background of this heroine. This book can definitely be read as a stand alone novel, but if you like great action thrillers featuring covert operators, you should read the other two books as well!

If you read the Special Agent Jana Baker Spy-Thriller Series, then Protocol One is an excellent back story to help fill in the gaps of Jana’s story. I would hate to meet her in a dark alley, she seems to be one tough cookie. The novel brings you from college graduate to FBI Agent. If you are new to Nathan’s writing, I would suggest starting with the novel. It’s a great foundation to the rest of the series.

The series is a fast paced thriller and Nathan has very fresh plots in his writing. It is always nice to see new energy in this genre. I will await the next Nathan novel, the first four are worth recommending to anyone who likes the genre.

For those who have read the series, the van makes an appearance.

Having read the Fourteenth Protocol by this same author I was delighted to get hold of this prequel novel featuring the sassy and capable FBI agent, Jana Baker. Protocol One, however, takes us back into a past where Jana has just graduated and applies for a job at a company specialising in creating software being used in the oil industry.
She gets the job but her bosses are not what she expected...not after having been told by Agent Stone they are suspected of terrorist links.
As far prequels go, having a full blown action thriller as a belated starter to this excellent series, may be a tad unusual (the norm being short stories) but a very welcome addition to the series. Highly recommended.

Having read (and thoroughly enjoyed) the rest of Nathan Goodman's "Protocol" books, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read this one as it is the back story of how Goodman's strong female protagonist Jana Baker first got involved with the FBI. All of his books have been riveting and I'm so glad I "discovered" him. If you like fast-paced books you can't put down, this is the author for you. Do yourself a favor and get acquainted with Jana and her cohorts. I received an advance copy for an honest opinion which is this is a very worthwhile author who gives us engaging characters, fast-paced action, and intriguing plots. Definitely worth the "read"!

Nathan Goodman introduces Jana Baker in this fast page turning book! Jana just landed an apprentice position of a leading petrol oil trading company! The first day on the job for Jana an FBI Agent Stone buys her coffee and starts off by telling about her life so far and she has no idea who he is! He tells her not to say anything to anyone in the office about him and arranges to meet for lunch so he can tell her who he is and hopefully talk her into helping the FBI get information about her new bosses!
You need to pick up a copy and read it in one day like I did! It is definitely a great read!

This is the third book from Nathan Goodman I have read and I cannot wait for the next. My joking criticism is that once you start the book you cannot put it down as the action develops immediately and his books may result in sleep deprivation! Near ending I was unsure how Stone survived for a moment and her self defense skills without Academy training were a little too good but that is okay. What I like about his stories is that they mirror the complex issues of modern day intelligence agencies and terrorism threats. He has great incite into what we want to read about and unfortunately bad things that could happen.

Outstanding! Great character building; took enough time to understand Jana's strength and her sense of fair play. I could tell what she would choose as her career choice and look forward to seeing her, as well as Agent Stone, in future books. I have another author to help fill my retirement hours!

I was gifted this book by the author in return for an honest review. Good job and well done ????

This is a really fast-paced thriller that introduces the gutsy young Jana Baker to us. There are twists to the story that had me waiting with bated breath as I turned page after page after page. Good guys have to win in the end, we know, but we still have to find out how!!

I've just read an excerpt from the next book in the series... and am getting on with reading the rest of it ?

" I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator."
Protical One .. is a chilling suspense story, with an intricate plot that thickens as the author explores deeper and deeper into the lives and minds of the characters. A well-researched . . . sensitively written . . . inherently captivating novel of suspense, Protocol One is very highly recommended reading.

Totally enjoyed the intriguing storyline. Jana Baker has another fan. Yay, I found a new author to follow! I was very pleased with the storyline of Jana Baker. The book flowed beautifully and now I'm reading 14th Protocol. I wish I had more time to read. I highly recommend this series. Nathan Goodman does an excellent job of pulling you into the story and keeping you there until the end.

This is a novella, and the author's first offering. The plot is compact, simple. A 22 years old college babe spies on 2 terrorists and then brings them down. Never-the-less, I thought it was a pretty good offering. It grabbed my interest and wouldn't let it go. I'm buying the sequel.

I loved Protocol One, it was totally unexpected the way Jana was recruited and how well she adapted and fitted in with being an agent. I couldn't put this book down and sadly it came to its end far too soon. Great read, great action and great outcome.
