Great story with ultra-important topic. Good conversation starter for your kids to ask questions. We had at least two dozen of these when our daughter was small, but we purchased this as an addition to a baby shower gift.

This a great explanation of strangers and we were just addressing this with our preschool-aged daughter. It was recommended to us by another family - now she likes to read it over and over and...as a result...loudly calls out who are strangers when we go to the store. It's ok - I like that she is now aware. :)
Thanks!

Here is a classic example of authors that truly care about the readers they are writing for. This book opens the tough subject for discussion and gently eases the child into the greater discussion with their parents.
Crooked Kingdom :: Crossroads (Crossroads Saga Book 1) :: Ruin and Rising (The Grisha Trilogy) by Leigh Bardugo (2015-08-18) :: The Female of the Species :: A Paramedic's Wild Ride to the Edge and Back - A Thousand Naked Strangers

Its a good book to read to a preschooler regarding strangers. It's so hard to teach them not to talk to everyone and beware of others, so I think this book offers a good start to talking about the topic.

I have talked to my daughter on many occasions about strangers. However, after reading this book to her several times (and stopping to talk about what was happening), she's finally starting to understand that she shouldn't interact with strangers unless her parents are around.

My oldest loves the Bernstein Bears, and this is no exception...I definitely recommend this one for small children that are starting into preschool. It shows the importance of not talking to strangers...

I love Berenstain Bears books from my childhood in the '80's, and I hope to put together a nice collection for my children. When we received this book, I was curious to see how they handled the issue of strangers. They handled it beautifully--well thought-out and responsible writing. I love it!

I purchased this book hoping it would help my children learn about how to safely interact with strangers. The book is wonderful and talks about the fact that most people are kind and friendly, but you have to be on your guard just in case there is someone with ill intent (it alludes to kidnapping and scaring children, but that is as far as it goes). The book does state the Bear family's rule is "Never talk to a stranger," which my children have immediately taken to heart, something I am not thrilled about. My children now do not dare talk to someone who walks by our house or who says "Hello" to them in the grocery store. I would still recommend the book, but would also recommend that you chat with your children before reading it about the fact that it is OK to say a friendly "Hello" to a stranger when they are in a safe environment.

I ironically have 2 children very much like Brother and Sister bear in this book. One of my kids is pretty shy while the other is very outgoing. I think, though, that my shy one would be the same way as Brother bear was in the book so I have read this to them a couple of times recently. My children are never in a situation where they would be around strangers without me (unless it happens at school) but in the event that it happens I want to make sure they know how to deal with strangers. The list is a little weird at the end but good to have for conversations with your kids. Plus, it's the same types of things that parents already tell their children so seeing it in a book with characters they like is good for the kids to realize its not just Mom and Dad being annoying parents!
