This new edition of Light on Yoga goes deeply into Iyengar's method. The improved design, with more attractive typeface, is a vast improvement over previous editions. Detailed analysis of each asana and philosophy on every pose. An essential for serious Iyengar practice.

The best reference on yoga poses with thorough explanations of how to get in, be in and get out of each pose safely and effectively. Also provides excellent context for how poses relate to one another and progress one to the other. Though Iyengar yoga instruction is the key to learning how to practice yoga properly, this book is your best friend after class and when conducting a home-based practice.

This is THE book for an understanding of yoga. What most people associate yoga with is the "asanas" (poses). There is a lot more to it, which Mr. Iyengar outlines in this book. My primary uses are for deeper understanding of the proper alignment of these poses as well as a few pranayama (breath work) methods. Also included are asanas for common ailments and many sequences.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced yogi, this book is a fantastic reference. Mr. Iyengar was a master.

This book generally shows the progression of the poses from beginner to advanced. You will not be talked down to in this book. I like having more information then I need so that I can reference back and progress when I'm ready.

As the title says - Bible of Modern Yoga. Very informative, very detailed and is a great reference. It is not a 'fancy' yoga book, so no color pictures but is a must have for anyone who really wants to learn about yoga.

This book can be a bit overwhelming in the beginning, but really does encompass a lot of aspects of yoga that someone who is considered a "beginner", could benefit from. The fact that much of the print hasn't changed, proves that the subject in its pages is still relevant regardless of it's original publication. I really like that the book doesn't delve right into the yoga postures, but prefaces the student with a bit of history and the philosophy of yoga, but more specifically, behind Iyengar's relatively modern, yet still traditionally rooted perspective on yoga. This book is great for someone that is ready to take their practice to the next level, as well as, those that are more serious about connecting the Sanskrit meanings to their English translations; the glossary of terms is really helpful. I find myself using this book as a comparison to all the other books I've acquired in training and really appreciate the overall tone of the way it was written.

Not flashy or even user friendly (hence 4 stars instead of 5) this book is required reading for serious yogins. Iyengars description of poses is the "industry standard" even if you don't agree with his placement of the arm in one asana or another. I find myself referring to this text over and over in my teacher trainings and in my practice.
