The Plastic Magician (A Paper Magician Novel)
The Plastic Magician (A Paper Magician Novel)

Review:I am a big fan of Charlie Holmberg. I was so excited to revisit this world from a different perspective. The novel did not disappoint. I am really hoping to hear more about this intelligent and engaging character. Read more

The Last Magician
The Last Magician

Review:It became so clear that Lisa Maxwell is a skilled writer. She wove a tremendous story with plenty of twists to keep me turning the pages. She made me care about what happened to the characters, leaped through the time continuum, and provided a bit of humor along the way. The ending didn't surprise me, but it was fulfilling nonetheless. At times, I felt lost as she switched settings/characters often then tied it all back together eventually. My ONLY criticism was the entire read didn't feel like ... Read more

Daisy Miller (Penguin Classics)
Daisy Miller (Penguin Classics)

Review:"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you." -- Matthew 7:1-2 (NKJV)

Daisy Miller is the essence of a well-written novella: deep characterizations developed through a variety of interactions, minimal prose to capture a point, carefully balanced action that rounds out a message, plenty of exhibition of internal thoughts and feelings, and stark contrasts in personal philosophies. Whi... Read more

Bitterblue (Graceling)
Bitterblue (Graceling)

Review:This was a great book. If I could give it more stars, I would. That said, this deals with very heavy, serious topics. This book was different from Graceling and Fire. I think the main difference is that this was much more adult then the previous novels. In Graceling and Fire, you knew that Leck was a bad guy, but in Bitterblue you realize that Leck was a Bad. Guy.
The character development was amazing. I felt like I was growing with Bitterblue, and felt her struggles. I feel a bit speechless ... Read more

Larken (Graceling Hall Book 1)
Larken (Graceling Hall Book 1)

Review:Although the plot was interesting, so many facts didn't add up. Why was Larken a destitute orphan when her parents were well to do. Someone should have been an advocate for her. Brandon was unbelievably rude and changes quickly. I guess the writing lacked depth. The author used a word that was not even a word until the 1960's in England. Found myself skimming as it was so predictable at the end. Read more

Fire (A Companion to Graceling)
Fire (A Companion to Graceling)

Review:I'm glad I waited a bit before I decided to write this review because, otherwise, I would have ranked this a lot lower than I did.

First, I knew that she was going to focus on something a little less Graceling but I wasn't expecting it to be this different. I was taken aback by how little she touches on the Gracelings in this book. In fact, that was the reason why I was so determined to give this book a lower score because of my belief that all books in a series should be in the same worl... Read more

Poison Study (Soulfinders Book 1)
Poison Study (Soulfinders Book 1)

Review:Snyder's writing style is fluid and at times almost lyrical--colorful, vivid descriptions abound and I felt as if I could have been right there in Ixia. The story was nothing short of brilliant--one of just a few truly original (at least, to me) books I've read lately. (That list includes The Hunger Games and Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely books.) Poison Study had me hooked from the beginning and I had a hard time putting this one down--let's just say it's a good thing there's not much going on at... Read more

Dime Store Magic (Otherworld)
Dime Store Magic (Otherworld)

Review:Paige is a 23-year-old witch and the only daughter of the murdered coven leader who has been taking care of recently orphaned 13-year-old witch Savannah. When Savannah is pursued by a dangerous Cabal leader (the wizard equivalent of a coven) and a telekinetic half-demon, Paige does everything she can to protect the strong-willed teen. But it is not only dangerous enemies that Paige must protect her from, it is also Savannah's darker side (learned from her mother, who liked to practice the dark a... Read more

Thirteen (Otherworld)
Thirteen (Otherworld)

Review:Reading this after having read the preceding books (Bitten, Stolen and Dime Store Magic) means that this time around I have a much stronger feel for the character interactions and how they play off each other (the last time I read this, I hadn't read the first two books). Although it is possible to have read this book after only reading "Dime Store Magic," IMHO it is better to have read all preceding books first.

In "Industrial Magic," children of Cabal employees are being attacked and (... Read more

Frostbitten (Otherworld)
Frostbitten (Otherworld)

Review:Elena and Clay head off to Alaska in Frostbitten to track and aid a young mutt in danger. While there they find something far beyond the supernatural they're accustomed to. Frostbitten takes the reader deep into shapeshifter mythology, while also providing a look at both Elena and Clay's pasts.

Frostbitten offers much in the way of action and passion. Elena and Clay away from the twins and their day-to-day lives allows for room to explore their relationship as well as how they've both cha... Read more
