Girl in the Blue Coat
Girl in the Blue Coat

Review:* 4.5 stars * non-spoiler review *

This story of choices and flukes and wartime resistance is well suited in subject, tone and approach for adolescents. Author Monica Hesse treats both her readers and her characters with respect. She clearly expects readers to make inferences, reflect on situations, and make connections.

Her teen and young adult characters are imperfect yet resolute. Pacing is swift and the plot is nimble, while having several largely believable twists and surprise... Read more

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns (Rise of the Empress)
Forest of a Thousand Lanterns (Rise of the Empress)

Review:I adored this story, though I wish I would have realized it was an evil queen from Snow White origin story. I would have been rooting for her wickedness, not for her to do better. Regardless, it was a fantastic read and I enjoyed it so much! Read more

Review:*Spoiler Free*

This book is sorta science fiction meets dystopia. Now I love dystopian novels but I wasn't too sure about the science fiction aspect. After reading this book I'm sure... sure that I like science fiction! Because this book was great.

The storyline was fantastic and I felt a lot of sympathy for Amy. She gave up her whole life to be frozen, with the promise of waking up on a new planet. Except she's woken up too early. She is unable to be re-frozen so will most likely ... Read more

The Outliers
The Outliers

Review:The Outliers by Kimberly McCreight is an intense mystery that doesn't completely unravel. Wylie has lost her mother in an accident and she can't seem to overcome her loss. On top of this stress, her best friend Cassie is missing. Cassie's boyfriend, Jasper, comes to Wylie's house and shows her the texts he's received from Cassie begging him to help her. Wylie and Jasper go on a treasure hunt of sorts looking for Cassie as they receive small clues a little at a time. They finally reach Cassie and... Read more

Monster
Monster

Review:My only exposure to Mr. Perretti was in his novel, "The Oath," which I found to be an exciting and entertaining blend of "horror" and "spirituality." It did not feel like I was reading a book by an author of Christian literature. Not that there is ANYTHING wrong with Christian literature; I love good literature, and embrace a novel that can open my eyes and make me think about my own beliefs and/or doubts.
"The Visitation" succeeds on that level, as it explores the many doubts and questions... Read more

The Cellar
The Cellar

Review:I became emotionally involved with this masterpiece! I cried, I felt relief, I got mad. I could vividly imagine the characters and their experiences, their surroundings. It was like I was there. This book was very well written in the format that it was. Absolutely will be seeking out more of Natasha Preston's work. This book 'The Cellar,' was my first and I highly enjoyed it, it is an absolute must read! 5 stars ***** Read more

The Program
The Program

Review:Wow, I knew I wanted to read this book but I didn't realize just how good it was going to be until I read it. The Program was amazing to me. Everything I wanted in a dystopian, and while some of it reads similar to other dystopians out there, there is a lot that is different and fresh about this book as well and that is what drew me in and kept me reading!

Sloane and James are in love but worried about the sickness that can land them in the program. Life as a teenager in the normal worl... Read more

Code Name Verity (Thorndike Press Large Print The Literacy Bridge)
Code Name Verity (Thorndike Press Large Print The Literacy Bridge)

Review:I came into this book with great expectations and Code Name Verity met many of them. Unfortunately, It didn't change my life like my friends said it would.

I felt like the biggest moment in the whole book was rushed and I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. It seemed to me that there was a greater description of several minor characters' adventures - Beryl, Dympna, Paul - than there was of the climax. This was disappointing for me.

As well, I felt that there were several holes... Read more

Whatever Happened to Janie? (The Face on the Milk Carton Series)
Whatever Happened to Janie? (The Face on the Milk Carton Series)

Review:Exhilarating and Enjoyable! You get sucked into the book as a character yourself. "Whatever Happened to Janie?" answers all. People were dancing in joyous celebration in New Jersey for the return of a lost loved one. What had happened after Janie hung up the phone? Was it then a happily ever after story? Or did it make you feel the frustration and pain she would go through? Had the worry and fright stopped? Had the grief lost it's way through the Springs? New sorrow began as a different st...
