The Sandman: Overture
The Sandman: Overture

Review:Another fantastic story by the great Neil Gaiman. If you're a fan of the series or his story telling then this will not disappoint. The art alone is justification enough to buy this work. Can't recommend it enough. Read more

Death of Wolverine: The Weapon X Program
Death of Wolverine: The Weapon X Program

Review:Remember Jason Aaron’s Punisher MAX run a few years ago? That series killed off the classic Punisher, the Vietnam vet Frank Castle, and subsequently resurrected him as a thirtysomething vet of an unnamed war (so as not to date him). But the way Aaron killed off Frank was glorious: a heavily beaten Frank managed to kill his way through his greatest enemies before finally falling himself. It was so perfect it remains my favourite character death storyline ever.

So now it’s Charles Soule’s t... Read more

Transmetropolitan, Vol. 1: Back on the Street
Transmetropolitan, Vol. 1: Back on the Street

Review:To accurately picture Transmetropolitan's dystopic view of the future as seen through the eyes of outlaw journalist Spider Jerusalem, think of a bizarre blend of Hunter S. Thompson, Phillip K. Dick's Blade Runner and Judge Dredd. You've got abouit half of the concept down now. Transmetropolitan is undoubtably one of the most ferociously innovative comics in recent memory, and my simple review cannot fully explain it. Seriously, buy this comic. You will not be disappointed! Ex-Patriots: A Novel (Ex-Heroes)
Ex-Patriots: A Novel (Ex-Heroes)

Review:The 2nd book in the inevitable trilogy continues to impress. Who doesn't love superheroes and who doesn't love zombies? A perfect mix. This book does leave a lot of open ends which lends it self well to a 3rd book. Everything does tie in though at the end and creates for some nice twists and turns. I also really enjoy military/zombie books and this book also incorporates that aspect that it was right up my alley. Like the first book, I finished it in a couple days. Read more

Ex-Heroes: A Novel
Ex-Heroes: A Novel

Review:I'm an avid reader of most anything post-apocalyptic and Ex-Heroes was a welcome deviation from the standard zombie survival novel. At first I thought the inclusion of super heroes was a recipe for ridiculousness put gosh darn did Mr. Clines pull it off. Strong characters utilizing (relatively) realistic tactics made this a great read.

Being a Los Angeleno I found the geographic accuracy particularly entertaining, from the landmarks to the street names. I could actually visualize exactl... Read more

Ex-Purgatory: A Novel (Ex-Heroes)
Ex-Purgatory: A Novel (Ex-Heroes)

Review:For those unacquainted with Ex-Heroes, this is the fourth book in a series about zombies and superheroes. Clines writes with a natural, engaging style and his books are wonderfully easy to read. Genre authors often fall into ruts of purple prose, done-to-death tropes and predictable antics - and Clines effortlessly rises above those shortcomings by breathing life into his work.
Start with Ex-Heroes. These books are episodic, but he doesn't slow down very much to catch up new readers.

Ex-Isle: A Novel (Ex-Heroes)
Ex-Isle: A Novel (Ex-Heroes)

Review:Loved this one. The two separate stories were both compelling. At times I was annoyed when one switched because I wanted to continue, then by the end of that chapter I wasted that story to continue. Good build and climax. Read more

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight (Elseworlds)
Batman: Gotham by Gaslight (Elseworlds)

Review:Batman: Gotham by Gaslight is a short Elseworlds collection, answering the question: What if Bruce Wayne became Batman in 1888? First, Batman sets off against Jack the Ripper, who has taken up residence in Gotham, but then Bruce Wayne is arrested as Jack the Ripper, himself. Next is a tale about the World Fair at Gotham, when the sinister Alexandre LeRoi threatens the fair with his magnificent flying machine and mysterious weapons, but the Bat-man is nowhere to be seen. Will he show up in time t... Read more

Batman: The Black Mirror
Batman: The Black Mirror

Review:A wonderful edition of one of the best Batman stories in recent memory. This volume collects the work that sold me on Scott Snyder as a Batman writer, and do so without a single fault in the design of the book I can point to. Also, don't be fooled by the description: the Jim Gordon back-up stories from the original Detective issues are included and organized into the proper places in the narrative, ensuring that you get the whole mystery Snyder wrote.

This is not a book to miss. Get it as... Read more
