Loved this one. The two separate stories were both compelling. At times I was annoyed when one switched because I wanted to continue, then by the end of that chapter I wasted that story to continue. Good build and climax.

Peter Clines continues to put out amazing books. I have yet to not love anything he has released and this new ex book has continued the streak. Please somebody pick this series up for a movie or tv series!

While not as good as the previous books, it still deserves 5 stars. The author said that this was one of his first books written with an outline, and it definitely feels like it. Still amazing and fun to read, though.

I have followed this series from the beginning. I read at the end what the author said about this installment but I must disagree that the outline did not work. The story was terrific and helped develop more of what makes these heroes who they are. I am looking forward to the next book (and the next, and so on) especially with the cliffhanger hooks to lead you in to the next book. If you like superhero tales mixed with a zombie apocalypse then you out to try this series out.

I enjoyed the first book in this series very much. Since then the sequels have been up and down. This one is mainly up.
However ... it's a bit frustrating that the characters use such stupid tactics to fight the zombies. The characters are portrayed as intelligent and by this point they have many years of experience fighting the zombies. They KNOW that what puts them down are head shots.
So why in the author's detailed descriptions of the battles do the characters keep wasting their time punching every part of the zombies' bodies other than their heads? Why do they spend so much effort tossing zombies long distances when they could simply crush their skulls?
They don't need advanced robot technologies. They need medieval technology, i.e., pole arms. They need to carry daggers around with themselves at all time like on "The Walking Dead."
The zombies and superheroes don't stretch believability. The bad tactics do.

I recently learned that Clines won't be writing anymore Ex books. I'm both heartbroken and disgusted. He created a unique universe based on a unique premise, and we're going to be left hanging. I've enjoyed most of the books and love the characters. I guess we'll never know what comes next for St. George, Stealth, Cerberus and company.
This book was okay. It wasn't great and it wasn't terrible, but it's not of the same caliber as the first 2 novels. The most tedious aspect of this book was reliving Corpse Girl's memory loss and subsequent recalling of what transpired previously. Nautilus was interesting as a super powered antagonist; it would've been great to see more of that in the future.
There are still stories to be told in this series. I hope there is enough interest that Clines returns to the Ex storyline at some point.

Another great addition to the Ex-Heroes series, ‘Ex-Isle’ is full of zombies, superheroes and action. If you like that kind of thing you should jump right in, if you’re looking for deep meaning this probably isn’t the book for you. Well written with a great story which really adds to the overall tale I thoroughly enjoyed it. I just wished that the next books in the series would come out faster to keep the story fresh in my mind. Guess you can’t have both good and fast right?

An improvement over the last book in the series. However, it still places far too much focus on the lamest character in the series ("The Driver"). On the plus side, the humor and action scenes are still top notch.

Another great installment in this series. Our heroes are just as awesome as usual and the villains.... well that’s just a bit of a messed up situation. There’s plenty of action and excitement as always and it doesn’t disappoint!

There's no gray in these books. Everyone is either good or bad. And the bad people are unbelievably bad, not that their actions are such but I don't believe people behave in such a manner - even in a zombie apocalypse. I have an easier time believing in superheroes and zombies than I do that people would be so naive, so unreasonable, so mean.
Furthermore, this book was just an episode, nothing that revealed anything into the past or moved the plot along in any way. I really hope Peter Clines isn't going to put all his eggs in this basket and make this an ongoing series. Heck, the Fold and 14 have better potential for series than this. Finish it up and move along. This is being played out.

Overall the writing is getting better. An odd choice entering a couple of chapters about a character that has been dead for several books. Seems like the author wants to write a prequel as he flashed back to several events that occurred before the original book. This was good story in continuance of this universe with no earth shattering events. All characters featured evolved and set the stage for another book without leaving any cliff hangers.

I had a friend recommended series to me right after Peter Clines wrote his first book. I have to admit it took me about 50 pages to first get into ads but after that I have been hooked on every single book in the series they are fantastic.
His fifth novel and newest novel in his ex series does not disappoint. It is exciting, intelligent, terrifying and impossible to put down.

A fantastic addition to the series. NO spoilers! But if you've been following the series, this book is a super addition. It rounds out some of the characters that previously got less attention. Can't wait for the next installment!

I really, really love the Ex Heroes books and hope that Peter Clines continues writing them for years to come. The Ex Isle entry in the series was quite clever and not at all what I was expecting. My one complaint would have to be the lack of Stealth in the narrative. I really love the relationship between her and St. George and would like to see more develpoment of the life they are building together.

I was thinking this would be an amazing story. I thought it would be a change from the run-of-the-mill zombie novels and I thought I'd love the storyline. On all accounts, I found myself disappointed.
EXIsle is about the world being over-run by zombies. There's a war going on and you're either a Good Guy or a Bad Guy. There are no by-standers and everyone's collateral damage! I found the story unbelievably unbelievable. From the first page where St. George tosses zombies with a flick of the wrist, to him jumping about twenty feet into the air! I was like, "Really? Really..."
This is part of the EX Heroes series, by Peter Clines. This is book number 5 I think and I believe it will be the only one I read. Why do they keep chucking me in the middle or end of something that could be great?! Coming in on a series is just not cool for me and I'm so bummed that they keep coming to me this way, but I take many of them the way I get 'em.
Sadly, I wasn't happy with this one. Not only did it suck but the author even apologizes for rushing the job in the acknowledgements at the end! Say wha? So I may end up handing this book off to a friend. I don't even know if I want to keep it on my shelf. What a bummer...
