Review:This was interesting but was not what i expected from the title. I have never read any books by Kidd but she was recommended by serveral people. I think that women who are in an oppressive state in their own faith communities can benefit from this book. It looks at why we allow oppression. There were pearls in the book that i will take with me, but the last section left me a little so so. Her journey leads to a spiritual status that seems to leave off everything but herself. Like it is all... Read more
Review:Rob Bell rings the bell again! This book takes up where LOVE WINS left off. It goes where most Christians don't want to go. It asks spiritual questions the church doesn't want us to ask. I like the answers! Read more
Review:I was introduced to Douglas Preston's books with his Agent Pendergast series (Relic, et al.) and really enjoy how he introduces some "other-natural" aspect into his stories that grabs one's attention and moves the story along.
He does that again here, this time with a high energy accelerator whose controlling computer starts talking to them when its energy level approaches 100% and the generation of a central micro-black hole starts to manifest, suggesting a doorway has been opened to ano... Read more
Review:Great read about the effects of DMT. It's amazing what are bodies are made to do and heal if given the opportunity. Too bad we all can't increase our DMT and other natural chemicals to heal our body and rid the western civilization of unnecessary medicines. I love the insight and respectful thoughts this doctor makes in regards to one day making DMT more available for all. It also teaches that when taken properly, psychedelics can be our greatest hero, and explains the stigma that they have on o... Read more
Review:Mark Batterson continues living the dream with his newest book -- Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God. If you like his other books, then you will probably like this one. If you do not like his other books, you probably will not like this one either.
The book itself is divided into two sections: (1) the power of a whisper and (2) the seven love languages. The first section is where he spends his time talking about how God does not always use neon signs in the sky but can speak from ... Read more
Review:For those skeptical of supernatural claims and theistic versions of Buddhism, Robert Wright continues the quest that his earlier books such as The Moral Animal and The Evolution of God began. These titles hint at Wright's terrain, where fact and speculation, the tangible and the experiential, blur. He explores in Why Buddhism Is True the worldview that in the time of the historical Buddha, could not have been clearly expressed in pre-scientific, and very pre-Darwinian terms to human mindsets.
Review:This is the most inflammatory of Mr. LaVey's first four books. In the other three books, Mr. LaVey attempts to explain his philosophy to the reader. His explanations include cosmetics to make the philosophy more attractive.
In "The Satanic Rituals" Mr. LaVey provides the text (in English plus the original German) of the actual rituals used within The Church of Satan, plus instructions sufficient to allow a priest to conduct each ritual. The rituals are presented with *very* little in... Read more
Review:I thought this book would be a more serious learning experience about different beliefs. But when I saw how some of the words in the book were spelled like magik, I was very disappointed. As far as I'm concerned the book seems like nothing more than just a joke and I don't even want to finish reading it. I'm so disappointed I thought it was true study about believes that people had and I would just wanted to learn about that but it's nothing more than comic book with spells and stupid words spel... Review:This book is a well-written collection of Mr. LaVey's essays. For the most part this book is not required to understand The Church of Satan. The book does highlight Mr. LaVey's unique philosophy and various related topics. The range of topics is too broad to summarize, so I'll list several highlights:
"Ravings From Tartarus": Why ritual spells do not work, and how to accomplish your goals.
"The Importance of Keeping a Secret": Types of secrets, and methods to ensure secrecy.

Review:After reading through all the online literature, I bought this book; it's not a long read, but sets forth all the levayian satanism beliefs.
I think it's a valuable philosophical read, even if you don't think this is your thing.
If you're looking for something super blasphemous or devil worship, this is not for you. It is an atheist philosophy. Read more
